Shane Richie’s drinking destroyed marriage

OHMYGOSSIP — Shane Richie’s drinking caused the breakdown of his marriage to Coleen Nolan.
The ‘EastEnders’ star – who was married to the ‘Loose Women’ panelist from 1990 to 1999 and has two sons, Shane Jr., 29, and Jake, 25, with her – admits his boozing spiralled out of control when his ego had “taken over” and he regrets his wild partying now.
He said: “I lost my first wife through my drinking. A bottle of Jack [Daniel’s] and I was off…
“By 1996 my ego had taken over. I was getting a police escort to nightclubs. I’d be thinking, I’m 30, I’ve got bad skin but all these girls are screaming for me outside.
“It went to my head and I was a bit out of control.
“I’d just had a Daz ad where they paid me a load of money and I thought I was sorted for life, that it was going to last for ever. I believed the hype and I do regret that now.
“I was lying to myself about the drinking and the women, thinking I was pulling the wool over the public’s eyes. I’d be on TV advocating monogamy (on his marital game show ‘Love Me Do’) while I was having an affair, for God’s sake.”
The 53-year-old actor-turned-singer – who also has children Mackenzie, 11, Lolita, nine, and Romany-Skye, six, with current wife Christie Goddard – admitted it was “tough” reflecting on his alcohol issues in new song ‘The Bottle’s Not Your Friend’.
He said: “It was tough to write. It’s pretty personal. ‘It won’t keep you warm and it won’t have your back in a fight.’ That’s what it is about.”
Meanwhile, Shane is a big fan of British TV but is shocked by some current programming.
He told Event magazine: “Have you seen ‘Naked Attraction’? It’s ‘Blind Date’ with your c**k out. What Cilla would’ve made of it, I don’t know but that’s what you’re up against now, so to speak.”

Tom Daley plans presenting career

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Daley is planning to move into TV presenting when he retires from diving.
The 23-year-old Olympian – who previously served as a mentor on celebrity reality show ‘Splash!’ – is already thinking ahead to the future and wants to combine his other passions and expand his work on his YouTube channel.
Speaking at the Cheltenham Literature Festival, he said: “There are so many things that I dream about doing and am excited about doing.
“I am having a lot of fun with my YouTube channel and I would really like to expand that and hope in the future I can be a TV presenter, which is something I really enjoy doing.
“Who knows what I would present? But it would fun to do something, I just like talking to people, meeting people.
“I also like travelling, eating, cooking and anything to do with adrenaline and any kind of bungee jumping, sky diving – not the sort of stuff I can do while diving. That kind of stuff I am all over.”
Tom – who is married to screenwriter Dustin Lance Black – is an avid user of social media, but won’t post anything that could get him into trouble.
He said: “The one golden rule I go by is if you won’t say – there’s 140 characters in a sentence – to your grandparents, definitely do not post it on Twitter.”
For the time being, Tom is committed to diving, but admitted it has been a tough 12 months professionally after crashing out of the 2016 Olympics 10m platform diving contest in the semi-finals, though he also won a bronze medal in a different category.
He reflected: “It’s all been a massive whirlwind since the Olympic Games last year. There is a lot of highs and lows from last year’s Olympics.
“Winning the bronze medal in the syncro event with Dan Goodfellow; and yet one of the most devastating experiences of my life in the individual event.
“After that I took a lot of time off to reflect and move on and I came back to training properly in January.
“I put so much pressure on myself leading into 2016 and I made it out to be such a big thing where you train so hard for one moment, that one chance on the diving board, and if you mess it up in that 1.6 seconds, it’s over.
“I learnt that at the Olympic Games – the biggest stage of all. For me to come back to diving, work hard again and try to get back to when I was 15 years old and win my first world title.
“I do diving because I love it but I do put a lot of pressure upon myself. Train as hard as you can, enjoy it and have fun. There was a little bit of redemption in being able to beat the Chinese divers.”

Brendan Cole feuds with Shirley Ballas on Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Brendan Cole caused tension on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ on Saturday (07.10.17) when he disputed head judge Shirley Ballas’ comments toward his dance.
The professional dancer took to the dance floor with ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter Charlotte Hawkins to perform a Tango inspired by ‘Top Gun’ as part of the BBC Latin and ballroom dance competition’s movie week.
And despite giving what he believed was a solid performance, he was shocked to find that head judge Shirley Ballas disagreed.
When the 57-year-old Queen of Latin told the duo there shouldn’t be any rise and fall in the Tango, Brendan was quick to step in and tell her she was mistaken, as he was adamant her comments were false.
She said: “She needs to stand on her own feet and we’ve established that there’s no rise and fall in Tango. So we’ve got to make a concrete decision not to use rise and fall. So no rise and fall.”
And Brendan argued: “There was no rise and fall in that whatsoever.”
Shirley then said: “Well, there is, Brendan. You should play it back and see.”
Brendan fired back: “I will my dear, I will. There was no rise and fall.”
Fellow judge Bruno Tonioli then stepped in to agree with Shirley, and told Brendan, 41, he should have more “respect” for the judging panel.
Bruno said: “I’m not an expert, I’ve only done about 500 shows but I think Shirley’s right, you should be more respectful.”
Charlotte, 42, and Brendan scored a total of 17 for their Tango, which was significantly better than their salsa from last week’s show, which was riddled with mistakes and scored them just 12 points.
Elsewhere in the show, former JLS singer Aston Merrygold and his partner Janet Manrara topped the leaderboard with 35 points for their ‘Trolls’ inspired Cha Cha, followed closely by fellow singer Alexandra Burke and Gorka Marquez, whose American Smooth based on ‘My Fair Lady’ scored 33.
At the other end of the table, Reverend Richard Coles found himself at the bottom with just 14 points for his ‘Flash Gordon’ themed Pasodoble.
‘Strictly Come Dancing’ continues with the results show on Sunday (08.10.17), where two couples will battle it out in the dance off.

Boris Becker to enter I’m a Celebrity… jungle

OHMYGOSSIP — Boris Becker is set to take part in ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’.
The 49-year-old tennis legend is said to be over £50 million in debt and is hoping to land a big pay deal to take part in the tough jungle challenge contest in a bid to ease his financial situation.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “As everyone now knows, Boris’s financial situation is desperate.
“He needs a way to make a lot of money fast, and has looked to ‘I’m A Celebrity’ to help him do exactly that.
“His representatives are negotiating with ITV over his fee, and they are aiming to get him £500,000.
“TV chiefs know he would be a brilliant signing. But they also know Boris is slightly over a barrel as a result of his dire financial situation.”
However, Boris – who was declared bankrupt earlier this year – knows appearing on the show won’t clear his debts, but hopes it would lead to some more lucrative opportunities after it comes to an end.
The insider added: “Even if Boris does collect half a million, it isn’t going to make a dent in his debts.
“But it is a step in the right direction and could lead to more lucrative opportunities — which he desperately needs.”
ITV refused to comment on “speculation” about Boris.
Not much is known about the forthcoming jungle series – presented by Ant and Dec – but it’s believed Gemma Collins has been asked to return after her failed stint in 2014.
‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ will hit screens in the autumn time.

James Woods is retiring

OHMYGOSSIP — James Woods is reportedly quitting the movie industry.
The 70-year-old actor has announced he is retiring from acting through a property listing, the Providence Journal has reported, and it has been rumoured the ‘Casino’ star is leaving the entertainment business because he wants to “simplify his life”, which will also see him sell “many” of his properties.
Speaking about Woods’ career decision, real estate agent, Allen Gammons, said: “[He] is retiring from the entertainment industry and hopes to ‘simplify his life’ by selling ‘his many real estate holdings on both coasts.'”
The movie icon owns four homes in Rhode Island, and he is believed to be putting one of the houses in the American State in New England, The Exeter, which has two lake houses, up for sale for approximately $1.4 million.
And it has been rumoured Woods – who received the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for his role in ‘Promise’ at the Primetime Emmy Awards in 1987 as well as the Best Actor for a Miniseries or Television Film at the Golden Globe Awards in the same year – plans to spend his free time dabbling in his other hobbies, which include photography and antiques.
The ‘Videodrome’ star has reportedly opted for the quieter life after having lost his mother Martha Woods in 2012, and his brother Michael Jeffrey Woods six years earlier.
Woods has been open about his political views over the years, and it has been reported that his own personal beliefs has made it difficult for him to be cast in acting jobs and for other projects in Hollywood.
However, it is believed that Woods’ decision to leave the entertainment industry was not due to a political reason, according to businessman Gammons.

Jared Leto reveals reasons behind his method acting

OHMYGOSSIP — Jared Leto thinks if he was a “better actor” he wouldn’t need to do method acting.
The 45-year-old actor has revealed he wore contact lenses to make him temporarily blind whilst filming ‘Blade Runner 2049’ because his character Niander Wallace has lost his sight, and he has admitted he only carries out extreme measures because he doesn’t think he could give an honest and convincing portrayal otherwise.
Speaking to PEOPLE about his preparation for movies, he said: “If I was a better actor then maybe I wouldn’t have done it! I would’ve pretended — I would’ve acted.”
As well as wearing the contact lenses, Jared was able to learn how to act as though he had a visual defect by working with a blind man named Chris.
Jared said: “I had a young man named Chris in Los Angeles who lost his sight at a very young age and he was my teacher. We actually modelled Niander’s eyes after Chris’s eyes, though Chris’s eyes are even more brilliant.”
The star has admitted he “always” tries to act “as little as possible”, so he will happily do whatever he can to make a “stronger reality” for himself.
He added: “I always try to act as little as possible, so whatever I can do to make a stronger reality for myself I generally try to do it.”
Jared is believed to have sent unusual gifts to his fellow ‘Suicide Squad’ cast members to help him get into the role of the Joker, but after embellished rumours started circulating about his presents he has vowed to “never” to discuss how he gets into character.
He said: “I should just never talk about it because I’m not doing it to talk about it — I’m doing it for me. One basic response I have is, ‘I’ll work the way I want to work, you work the way you want to work. You don’t like it, you can kiss my ass.'”

Reese Witherspoon driven to make better parts for women

OHMYGOSSIP — Reese Witherspoon moved behind the camera when she found out actresses were fighting over a “terrible” script.
The ‘Home Again’ actress decided it was time to get into producing and directing when she realised there were few great opportunities for women to look “inspiring” on screen and was determined to create the roles she was looking for for other people.
She said: “About five years ago, I got a script that was probably the worst script I’ve ever read.
“I called my agent and said, ‘This is just terrible, I don’t want to do this movie.’
“He said, ‘Every actress in Hollywood wants this part.’
“That lit a fire under me and I still said, ‘This isn’t good enough. This isn’t good enough for those actresses who have worked all their lives, they are the industry leaders and they are also who we look at to emulate.’
“I believe if you see women on film, who you respect and admire, acting stupid and doing bad parts, that’s just not inspiring.
“So I set out with a goal to create better roles for women, more opportunities for female directors and female screenwriters and it’s been a great thing.”
But Reese admits it hasn’t been an easy journey, though she thinks it is all worthwhile.
She added: “It’s hard.
“In fact, I self-funded a company for five years but it feels like the next chapter of my life and what I’m supposed to be doing.”
The 41-year-old star recently enjoyed success with ‘Big Little Lies’, which she produced and starred, in and she was shocked at how popular the TV miniseries proved to be.
She told LOOK magazine: “I think the reaction to ‘Big Little Lies’ was unexpected and it definitely was an extraordinary reaction.
“I don’t think we ever thought this many people would watch it or enjoy it.”

Debbie McGee’s ‘sparkle’ has returned due to Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Debbie McGee’s “sparkle” has returned since competing on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 58-year-old television performer lost her husband of almost 30-years Paul Daniels 18 months ago, and though the star still mourns her husband the popular BBC One show has “changed” her and has made her “happy again”.
Speaking about the star – who was also known for being her late partner’s magician’s assistant – to The Sun Online, Debbie’s younger sister Donna, 57, said: “I have seen a change in her, I have seen her happy again, and she has a sparkle in her face.
“She is putting in as many hours training as she can, normally nine hours upwards, and she is exhausted.”
And working with dance professional Giovanni Pernice, 27, on the programme makes her “face light up”.
Donna continued: “But her face lights up on the dance floor with Giovanni. She always tries to keep happy, but you can see in her eyes now that she is really happy.”
Donna has revealed she moved in with Debbie for six months following Paul’s death, but now Debbie has a distraction she has not “needed” her sibling there as much.
Donna explained: “She never let him [Paul] see her cry. She was always smiling at him and even right up to the day before he died he laughed a lot with us.
“Every now and again we have a day where we sit and cry together.
“I think she likes to have someone at night to talk to when she gets home, she’s excited about it all. But she has been less emotional, she has needed me there less.”
And Donna believes Debbie – who joined the Royal Ballet School aged 16 years old – will go far in the competition because she has always been a “little performer” ever since she was a child.
Donna said: “She was definitely a little performer from the word go. She wanted to be famous. She has always loved it.
“At five, I’d be playing with dolls, but Debbie was practicing if she had a show coming up. While I would go to the youth club, Debbie would practice.
“She was brilliant at choreography. She can envision things and that is probably helping her now because she understands what Giovanni is giving her.
“She picks it up and will practice it step by step until she gets it right.
“Even if Giovanni says, ‘You’ve got it’ she will keep on until she thinks she has got it right.”

Michelle Keegan ‘loves’ playing Georgie Lane in Our Girl

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Keegan “loves” playing Georgie Lane in ‘Our Girl’.
The 30-year-old actress has reprised her role as the army medic in the upcoming 12-part series, and the star has admitted she enjoys playing the tenacious character because of her strong attitude and caring nature.
Speaking to The Mirror Online about the programme, the brunette beauty – who is married to ‘Extra’ co-host and former ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ hunk Mark Wright – said: “Georgie looks after number one but she also looks after everyone else. I love her attitude.”
In the previous season Georgie was due to marry Doctor Jamie Cole, who is portrayed by Royce Pierreson, but she called the engagement off.
And the former ‘Coronation Street’ star – who is known for playing the role of Tina McIntyre in the longstanding soap – has revealed there is “no news” of her on-screen ex-partner in the upcoming series.
Speaking about the plot, she said: “Unfortunately there’s no news of Jamie.”
However, Georgie’s true love Elvis Harte, who is played by Luke Pasqualino, does make a comeback and he continues to try and win her back after he left her standing at the altar in a previous series.
But Michelle has revealed Georgie and Elvis continue their spat and have a “bust up” in the forthcoming episodes.
She said: “Georgie and Elvis have a bust-up this series.”
And though Elvis is trying to woo Georgie, he has a history with Private Maisie Richards, who is portrayed by Shalom Brune-Franklin, which is believed to be the root of the former couple’s “jealousy” and arguments.
Michelle continued: “There’s a lot of frustration and a lot of jealousy.”
Although Michelle and Luke’s characters clash on screen, off camera the pair get on well, and the dark haired hunk has praised the ‘Tina and Bobby’ star for her great work ethic.
Speaking previously, the 27-year-old ‘Skins’ heartthrob said: “Working with her is amazing.
“She knows everyone’s name on set and is a complete pro. She’s beautiful inside and out.”

Gemma Atkinson ‘cut’ her Strictly shoes

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Atkinson had to “cut” her shoes for her ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ training – and her partner had to glue them back together.
The former ‘Emmerdale’ star has been working hard with professional dancer Aljaž Škorjanec, and their rigorous routines have left her with swollen feet, but attempts to accommodate her discomfort didn’t really work out.
She said: “I’ve been putting my feet in ice at night to stop any swelling.
“We cut the end of my shoes to give my feet more room and the sole started peeling back, so Aljaž had to run out and buy Superglue.”
The 32-year-old actress hit it off straight away with both Aljaž and his wife, fellow ‘Strictly’ professional Janette Manrara, and enjoys training with them both.
She said: “I’m thrilled because Aljaž is taller than me. He’s a world champion and won ‘Strictly’ with Abbey Clancy so no pressure! I like the fact he’s so technical with his dancing. He has a laugh, so I’ve struck gold really…
“Janette is lovely and so petite. She’s got the most insane physique. But what’s great is if I’m struggling with anything, I watch her dance with Aljaž and learn from that.
“Janette and I also have the same birthday, November 16, so we’re fellow Scorpios.”
And Gemma was relieved to find it wasn’t as awkward as she expected to dance close to her partner.
She told OK! magazine”I thought it would be awkward but it’s not like that with Aljaž because he’s my mate.
“Hopefully the dance will look intimate when necessary, but before and after rehearsals, we’re sat around eating Nando’s, burping, and having a laugh.”

Cheryl Tweedy returns to The X Factor

OHMYGOSSIP — Cheryl Tweedy is returning to ‘The X Factor’ after two years.
The 34-year-old singer first joined as a judge on the talent competition in 2008, and after leaving the programme in 2015 the brunette beauty is set to make her big comeback as a special guest during the Judges Houses round where she will assist Simon Cowell in his decision making process.
However, the ‘Fight For This Love’ hitmaker – who has six-month-old son Bear with her partner Liam Payne – reportedly felt some tension during the meeting and curtsied to the 57-year-old music mogul to “break the ice” when they boarded a plane to Nice, in France.
Speaking about their reunion to The Sun Online, a source said:
“She curtsied for him when she first got onto the plane – it was her way of breaking the ice.”
However, the Girls Aloud band member and Simon – who has three-year-old son Eric with his partner Lauren Silverman – swiftly picked up where they left off as they “bonded” over parenting.
The insider continued: “Simon and Cheryl bonded over parenting during a private jet and helicopter flight to the house.”
Although the pair have not worked with one another for a while, they still share a “very close” bond.
The source added: “Despite the break they’ve had from each other, they’re still clearly very close.”
While Cheryl joins Simon in France to select what groups he wants to take through to the next stage, 24-year-old grime artist Stormzy – whose real name is Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo, Jr – will accompany judge Nicole Scherzinger in South Africa to whittle down the Overs, and Sharon Osbourne has enlisted the help of her daughter Kelly and son Jack to select three contestants from her Girls category to take through to the live show.

Olly Murs to judge The Voice

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Murs is reportedly set to replace Gavin Rossdale as a judge on ‘The Voice’.
The 33-year-old singer is set to join the ITV talent shows judging panel alongside Sir Tom Jones, Jennifer Hudson and will.i.am, following the Bush band member’s departure.
The ‘Troublemaker’ hitmaker co-hosted ‘The X Factor’ alongside Caroline Flack in 2015 after having competed on the programme in 2009, but it is believed Olly’s new venture has upset Simon Cowell who thinks the musician has “swapped allegiances” if he works on his rival show.
Speaking about Olly’s next role to The Sun Online, a source said: “Simon isn’t happy Olly’s swapped allegiances, especially as he left the X Factor to concentrate on his music.”
However, Olly’s new project will be different to his time presenting ‘The X Factor’ when he had to remain “impartial”, as he will be able to comment on the budding artists and their performances, as well as mentor them throughout the series.
The insider explained: “It won’t be like when he presented X Factor when he had to remain impartial.”
The news Gavin – who has Kingston, 11, Zuma, nine, and Apollo, three, with his former partner Gwen Stefani, as well as 28-year-old Daisy Lowe with Pearl Lowe – had been axed from the chair-spinning show came earlier this year.
And it is believed the reason the ‘Love Remains The Same’ hitmaker was booted off the programme was because ‘The Voice’ bosses felt he lacked charisma and were keen to recruit someone who had “serious spark”.
Speaking previously about Gavin’s departure, a separate source said: “Gavin was great to work with during the series, but the bosses just felt he wasn’t right in the end.
“He didn’t make much of an impact, and they want someone with serious spark and charisma.
“So they have taken the decision that he won’t be back next year.”

Liz Dawn’s co-stars give emotional eulogy at funeral

OHMYGOSSIP — Liz Dawn’s ‘Coronation Street’ co-stars gave an emotional eulogy at her funeral on Friday (06.10.17).
Samia Longchambon and Alan Halsall, who play Maria Connor and Tyrone Dobbs, paid tribute to the late actress and her on-screen partnership with Bill Tarmey, as married couple Vera and Jack Duckworth, at the memorial at Salford Cathedral in Manchester.
Samia said: “Her formidable partnership with Bill Tarmey is etched forever in the programme’s history as over three decades they entertained us with their incredible wit and legendary Duckworth sparring matches, written so beautifully and enhanced by their gutsy, honest performances.
“Liz was always a force to be reckoned with and someone we all looked up to and admired. A doting mother-of-four, she used her celebrity status to make the world a better place.
“She wanted to share her good fortune with everyone and was the first to help charities that sought her patronage and support.’
“I was 17 when I joined ‘Coronation Street’ and as daunting as it was becoming part of such an iconic programme it was made easier by having Liz and Bill as parental figures to Alan and me. They guided us throughout our early days and ensured we stayed grounded.
“They instilled a discipline in us that would always remain, but at the same time our days on set were filled with nothing but fun and laughter.
“Liz was a truly great and special lady, and her legacy will go on. She touched our lives and made a difference, and for that reason we are truly grateful to her.
“We will cherish our memories of working with her and our everlasting friendship.’
“God bless you Liz, sleep tight. We’ll never forget you.”
Alan raised a laugh by reminiscing on the time Prince Charles paid a visit to the set and found Liz in character lying in bed in a coma.
He said: “The Prince and his entourage came to her bedside keen to meet the character who thought she was related to the royal family.
“But with one eye open, she broke the ice by asking: ‘Hiya love, have ya brought me grapes?’ and Charles turned to his aide and said: ‘Have we got any grapes?’
“Of course we were all in hysterics as Liz had done what she always did best – make people laugh and put you all at ease.
“Liz was a hard-working wife and mother, sister, grandmother great grandmother and a great friend. Liz was a true inspiration and was always so generous with her time. And she never expected anything in return.”
Speaking afterwards to Sky News, Helen Worth – who plays Gail Platt – said: “It was sad and it was beautiful. All the elements that Liz had, it had. It was a service for Liz and a great tribute.”
Liz, 77, passed away late last month following a period of poor health.
She first appeared on ‘Corrie’ in 1974 and her partnership with Tarmey – who died in 2012 – was a huge hit with fans for years.
Although her character was killed off in 2000, dying peacefully in her sleep, she made a brief reappearance as a vision to Jack as he passed away in a moving scene which saw them share one last dance.
Liz is survived by her husband Don Ibbotson and her four children.

Ron Howard teases more from Han Solo movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Ron Howard has teased yet another image from the upcoming Han Solo movie.
The 63-year-old filmmaker took over control of the ‘Star Wars’ spin-off after Christopher Miller and Phil Lord left due to creative differences with Disney and Lucasfilm, and since he began work he has drip fed fans with teaser photos from the set posted on his Instagram and Twitter accounts.
Now, Howard has posted a picture which shows the “director’s monitor” and what appears to be part of the iconic Millenium Falcon spaceship, with a kneeling figure facing away from the camera.
On Twitter, he captioned the picture: “Director’s monitor. Turns out Smuggling has its stressful moments in the #Galaxy (sic)”
Howard has been teasing fans ever since taking over helming the untitled movie and at the end of September, he posted a picture which seems to show a mysterious set of symbols carved into stone on crumbling ruins and more mysteriously, the filmmaker used the hashtag #McQuarrie.
He wrote: “Can anybody translate for me? #McQuarrie #UntitledHanSoloMovie (sic)”
The ‘McQuarrie’ hashtag is a direct reference to Ralph McQuarrie, the concept artist who designed initial looks for characters in the original ‘Star Wars’ trilogy.
Previously, the filmmaker teased that his Han Solo spin-off film will feature the Millennium Falcon taking on the Kessel Run referenced in ‘Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope’.
Howard posted a picture which seems to show the Kessel Run – a hyperspace route used by smugglers to transport spice from the mines of Kessel – with the caption: “Spicey? (sic)”
Die-hard fans of the franchise will remember the scene set in Mos Eisley Cantina in the original 1977 movie when Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) question the credentials of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and his Millennium Falcon Corellian freighter to get them and their droids R2-D2 and C-3PO to Alderaan to deliver the plans for the Death Star to the father of Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) without attracting the attention of The Empire.
The Han Solo spin-off movie will focus on a younger version of the titular character, with Alden Ehrenreich taking over the iconic role from Ford.
Han and Chewbacca will be seen first meeting Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) and they will also encounter Woody Harrelson’s alter ego Beckett, who is believed to be a mentor to young Han who guides him on his journey to becoming a space smuggler.
The ‘Star Wars Anthology’ film is slated to be released in May 2018.

Saoirse Ronan always wanted to be in On Chesil Beach

OHMYGOSSIP — Saoirse Ronan “always” wanted to star in the movie adaptation of ‘On Chesil Beach’.
The 23-year-old actress is currently starring in another Ian McEwan movie adaptation – after previously starring in ‘Atonement’ – and according to director Dominic Cooke, she had always hoped to land the part of Florence when she was “old enough”.
Speaking to the Daily Mail newspaper, Cooke said: “I saw Saoirse in Brooklyn and I thought she was extraordinary.
“You can see right into her; and she’s emotionally open.
“Turns out she had always wanted to do ‘Chesil Beach’, but wanted to wait until she was old enough.”
The story is set in 1962 and follows newlyweds Edward Mayhew (Billy Howle) and Florence Ponting (Ronan), who are spending their honeymoon in a small hotel in Dorset.
Despite being there to celebrate their wedding, the couple are unable to consummate their marriage because the story is set on the cusp on the sexual revolution and Edward and Florence have “never spoken about sex”.
Ronan said: “They’re not able to consummate their marriage. It’s set right on the cusp of the sexual revolution; but Florence and Edward, who we play, haven’t been able to talk freely about sex.
“And they haven’t understood why they’ve had this reaction.”
The film has been made under Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley’s Number 9 Films and marks Cooke’s directorial debut of a feature length.
Although Howle has not yet been seen in a feature film he has completed two, which are yet to be released.
He has filmed ‘The Sense of Ending’ with Emily Mortimer and Charlotte Rampling, and ‘The Seagull’ opposite Annette Bening and his ‘On Chesil Beach’ co-star Ronan.

Gore Verbinski in talks to helm Gambit

OHMYGOSSIP — Gore Verbinski is in talks to helm the ‘Gambit’ movie.
The 53-year-old filmmaker is best known for his work on the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise and is now moving into another big-budget film series, with Deadline reporting he is making a deal with Fox to helm the ‘X-Men’ spin-off.
Channing Tatum is confirmed to play Gambit and he previously admitted landing the role meant a lot to him because he relates to the Southern character on many levels.
He explained: “I love Gambit. I grew up in the South; my father’s from Louisiana. We’d go to New Orleans and I heard all the dialects.
“It felt so different from the rest of America; it has its own ancient culture. So I identified with that. And he always felt the most real of the ‘X-Men’ to me.”
The title character – also known as Remy LeBeau – was created by writer Chris Claremont and artist Jim Lee and made his first appearance in ‘Uncanny X-Men Annual #14’ in July 1990.
His powers include being able to turn objects into projectiles, including his signature item, a deck of cards.
The spin-off movie isn’t the first time the character has been seen on the big screen as he was portrayed by Taylor Kitsch in the 2009 film ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’.
Previously, the ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ filmmaker Doug Liman was supposed to helm the production but dropped out because he “never found a personal connection” to the film.
Liman had already replaced original director Rupert Wyatt, who left over budgetary disagreements, and there have been reports of multiple script re-writes meaning the movie has been pushed back to 2017.
The script has been penned by Josh Zetumer.
