Kate Winslet reveals Woody Allen blasts her on set

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Winslet receives harsh criticism from Woody Allen when she’s on set.
The 42-year-old actress is set to star in ‘Wonder Wheel’ alongside Justin Timberlake, but the blonde-haired beauty has revealed the 81-year-old filmmaker told her he was “bored” watching her act out scenes for the upcoming production, although the ‘Titanic’ icon didn’t take the comments to heart.
Speaking to Hello! magazine, she said: “Woody has this way of standing up in the middle of a scene and stopping me and saying, ‘No, no,no!’ and I’d go, ‘Okay, what?’ and he’d say … ‘You know it’s just … I am so bored watching you.’ I find that funny.”
And Kate has claimed she is from the “school of hard knocks” and has become thick skinned to some remarks.
She explained: “I’m from the school of hard knocks so I can handle it – I don’t mind honesty as long as he’s not mean, which he never, ever is.”
‘The reader’ star also revealed she has “always” been “strong and outspoken” and had no qualms about having an opinion.
Kate told HELLO! magazine: “I really like being me, actually. I’ve always been strong and outspoken and I intend to continue being so … It’s supported my life in many ways, both personally and professionally.”
Kate tries to pass on her honest trait to her children Mia, 17, Joe, 13, and three-year-old Bear – who she has from three different relationships – because she thinks it is the “easiest thing” for kids to remember to do.
She said: “It’s something I try to pass on to my children. I tell them, ‘Be yourself and always tell the truth’ because it’s the easiest thing to remember.”

Miles Teller ‘impresses’ director Jason Hall

OHMYGOSSIP — Miles Teller “impressed” director Jason Hall on set of ‘Thank You For Your Service’.
The 30-year-old actor portrays Adam Schumann in the drama film, and the 45-year-old creative mastermind has admitted he closely studied the dark-haired hunk in various other movies before giving him the role, and he decided to cast him in the production because he knew Teller had a “craft” and great skill to bring to the movie, and Hall was blown away by his acting ability.
Speaking about the star to The Hollywood Reporter, Hall said: “I have followed his career and I’ve watched this kid with incredible charisma, but also you could tell he had a craft and he had a skill set that he brought to it. I was so impressed with Miles. We asked him in a way to do stuff that he’d not done before. He gives a very subtle performance here, and he gives a really grown up performance, too.”
Although Hall has praised Teller for his performance in ‘Whiplash’, he believes his role in the war movie saw him bring “real detail to the job”, because he had to convey deeper emotions “behind his eyes at all times.”
Hall continued: “He was very much a kid [in ‘Whiplash’], and it’s a great performance and a great film, but it’s a very external performance. It’s a very physical performance and it doesn’t ask for a lot of extreme subtlety. This requires him to have a war going on behind his eyes at all times. He brought some real detail to the job and I took him out and we went hunting with Adam Schumann, the real guy [the movie is based on]. He got to know him, and it was a fantastic experience for him to connect with this guy. Miles is from Florida. It’s not like Miles came from Palos Verdes. Miles came from a part of Florida where all of his friends are either soldiers or they work some blue-collar job. He would either be a soldier, if he was lucky he’d be playing on some minor league baseball team, or he’d be putting up dry wall.”
The new biopic, which is based on a war veteran, also stars comedian Amy Schumer, and Hall has revealed the ‘Trainwreck’ actress approached him first and asked if she could feature in the movie.
The creative mastermind explained: “Two years ago, she [Amy] wasn’t as ubiquitous as she is now. Two years ago, when we started making it, you knew who she was and she approached us and said she wanted to do it. We were shocked she wanted to be a part of it, but she really brings the same physicality that Amanda has and the same look. You could put her next to Amanda with the hair she has in the film and you could think they were sisters. She brought a real seriousness to this and she applied herself and she wanted to be a part of what the film says.”

Sir Kenneth Branagh felt the pressure filming ‘Murder On the Orient Express’

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Kenneth Branagh was determined not to let his ‘Murder On the Orient Express’ cast down.
The 56-year-old actor starred and directed the upcoming production, which also features Michelle Pfeieffer, Dame Judi Dench, Johnny Depp and Daisy Ridley, thinks the entire cast were not a “posey or smug club” but were a group of “elite athletes” who were all eager to impress their colleagues on set.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the film icon – who portrays Detective Hercule Poirot in the production – said: “There was a pleasure of being in a group of elite athletes, as it were. And rather than it feeling like a posey or smug club, what I found was that nobody wanted to let anybody else down. You didn’t want to be in a scene with Judi Dench and not be very good, or be the one delivering the line to Johnny Depp or trying to share the laugh with Michelle Pfeiffer and not do it well.”
The ‘Hamlet’ star dons a moustache in the mystery thriller, and he has revealed he spent “nine months” preparing for the role, which saw him contemplate what type of facial hair to go for.
He explained: “There’s a great quote I like about Poirot, that you could tell from that ridiculous moustache his profession immediately: ‘a retired hairdresser.’ The moustache becomes part of what throws and provokes people.
“We had nine months of preparation that started from something that was a slither of what Charlie Chaplin might have had, passed through Hitler, went via Errol Flynn, turned the other side of Kurt Russell in ‘Tombstone’ and landed in a world that tried to justify Christie’s description of his moustache as having a ‘tortured splendour’.”
Meanwhile, Branagh is keen to work with Dench again, and he is “in talks” to cast her in ‘Artemis’ .
Speaking about his next venture, he said: “We’re in talks with Judi [Dench], but the key piece of casting is Artemis. We’ve been searching for an 11- or 12-year-old criminal mastermind and concentrating our search all over Ireland. It’s not quite decided yet. But I’m excited to be doing something for Disney that is live action and a new story.”

Ezra Miller recalls his Justice League joy

OHMYGOSSIP — Ezra Miller felt like he was having an “orgasm” when he sat in the Batmobile.
The 25-year-old actor plays The Flash opposite the likes of Ben Affleck as Batman and Jason Momoa as Aquaman in the upcoming DC ensemble movie ‘Justice League’ and he was incredibly excited to be around some iconic props and sets.
He said: “You know what it feels like sitting in the Batmobile? It’s like an orgasm. It just ripples through your own body.
“Oh my God, I would just touch Jason’s trident all day. He’d be like, ‘Get off my trident!’
“I’ll just touch Cyborg’s glowing eye. Just gently caress the glowing eye, you know? The lasso. I was always grabbing the lasso.
“All the Bat gadgets … Man, it’s awesome. F***ing awesome.”
Ezra is a huge comic book fan and takes great pleasure from reading the sketched stories.
He told SFX magazine: “These days, I’m all about Gardner Fox [Justice League’s original Silver Age creator]. It’s who I think about all the time.
“I read comics. Comics are a blessing. Comics are a mythology, a mythological source, a mythological font with the potential to save us meek, horrifying humans from our terrible ways.
“Comics have the potential for a little bit of salvation. So yes, I read comics. I enjoy them.”
Meanwhile, Ray Fisher found it quite easy to research his character, Cyborg, because he’s a relative newcomer to the DC universe.
He said: “Cyborg is a fairly newer character, so it was easier for me to check out a lot of the source material from ‘The New Teen Titans’, which was created back in the 1980s by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.
“Back at that time, there were a lot of politically charged DC comics, and it was really harrowing to see because I’d never seen comic books that had much socio-political commentary.
“I was extremely surprised to see that, and then see that iteration going through the New 52 version of Cyborg, seeing the variations of that.”

Danielle Armstrong snubbed by ex James Lock

OHMYGOSSIP — James ‘Lockie’ Lock snubbed Danielle Armstrong when she returned to ‘The Only Way Is Essex’.
The blonde beauty quit the ITVBe show last year after ending her romance with her ex-beau James, but the star has admitted when she made her surprise entrance on the show, which will air on Sunday (29.10.17), her former lover and his current girlfriend Yazmin Oukhellou “stormed out” and didn’t speak to her.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, the 29-year-old reality star said: “[It was] one of the most awkward experiences of my life. I walked in and they stormed out.”
However, Danielle has revealed the couple soon came round and she was able to “clear the air” with Yazmin, although James was “mute”.
She explained: “But as the night goes on I do end up having another scene with James and Yazmin.
“I cleared the air with Yazmin but James was a mute. He might as well have not been there. But me and Yazmin were actually fine. I think it actually shows girls are a lot more mature when it comes to things like this.”
But Danielle has revealed her mother urged her not to return to the reality show.
Danielle said: “My mum and everyone was saying ‘have you done the right thing going back, what is the point?’
“But for me I came away from it with that extra bit of closure.”
And Danielle has revealed she felt “so strange” being near her ex-partner, who she had dated for almost five years, because she “felt nothing”, not even “butterflies”.
She said: “It was so strange to be standing there in front of someone that I’d spent four years and we’ve been through everything together and he’s standing there with a new girlfriend like arm round her and I felt nothing.
“I didn’t even get those butterflies or even feel ‘have I done the right thing?'”
Danielle – who has recently split from Daniel Spiller – has admitted she is “happy” James has moved on and is settled in his new romance.
She added: “I felt happy for him. For me I walked away, if anything’s come of this, it’s that. Everything happens for a reason. For me I don’t think they were too happy.”

Lucy Mecklenburgh to quit reality TV

OHMYGOSSIP — Lucy Mecklenburgh wants to take a “long rest” from reality TV.
The former ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star was recently seen attempting to fend for herself on a stranded island, during which time she lost just under two stone, on the gruelling challenge show ‘Bear Grylls: Celebrity Island’ but, although she enjoyed her time on there, she won’t do it again.
She explained to new! magazine: “I would like a long rest. I like a challenge show, where I can learn a skill, but right now I’m not thinking about it. I want to get over ‘Celebrity Island’! I’ve not been on a bike since ‘Tour de Celeb’ last year. It’s like a mental block.”
The 26-year-old beauty – whose boyfriend Ryan Thomas is in Australia filming ‘Neighbours’ – is determined to spend the next year travelling and focusing on her fitness brand Results With Lucy.
Speaking about her plans for the future, the former ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ star said: “My Instagram feed is going to change now! Next year I want to travel a bit more and see the world while I can. I decided that on ‘Celebrity Island.'”
The brunette beauty is also keen to eliminate as much meat and dairy from her diet over the next few months – but she doesn’t think she could go vegan completely because she loves eggs.
She added: “I do meat-free Mondays and I might do one or two days a week vegan now, after going to the retreat, to re-educate myself. But I wouldn’t do it all the time because I couldn’t cut out eggs, meat and fish. I enjoy them too much.”

The late Sir Bruce Forsyth’s spirit is haunting ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ studio

OHMYGOSSIP — The spirit of the late Sir Bruce Forsyth is reportedly haunting the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ studio.
The BBC One shows former presenter tragically passed away in August this year aged 89, but it is believed staff, contestants, judges and members of the audience have noticed a “friendly presence” on the dancefloor, which is believed to be the ghost of the late TV legend.
A BBC insider, who has claimed to have heard the tapping of footsteps when nobody was around, told The Daily Star Online: “It’s hard to put a finger on it, it’s just a feeling.
“The best way to describe it would be friendly presence.”
And ghost expert, Mark Smith, doesn’t think it would be “unreasonable” for the “soul” of the British television personality to return to the place he was “happiest”.
He said: ” When we pass away the soul returns to the place we were happiest at in the physical world.
“For Bruce that could be at the BBC.
“It’s up to people whether they want to believe it is Bruce but it’s not unreasonable to think it could be.”
However, Mark has encouraged this year’s competitors, which include Mollie King, Alexandra Burke, Gemma Atkinson, Davood Ghadami, Aston Merrygold, and Debbie McGee to be “scared” of the otherworldly figure.
He added: “There is no reason for anybody to be scared.
“Bruce was not scary in life so there is no reason his spirit will be scary or want to harm anyone. He may have just come to say hello.”
Bruce sparked concern surrounding his health in March this year when he spent almost one week in intensive care, after he suffered a chest infection.
But the last blow was dealt a few months later when the showbiz icon suffered two aneurysms, which is when the wall of an artery that pumps blood to the brain becomes weak and can cause fluid to leak into the skull.
Bruce is survived by his wife Lady Wilnelia Forsyth and his six children – daughters Debbie, Julie and Laura from his first marriage with Penny Calvert, Charlotte and Louisa with his second spouse Anthea Redfern and a son with Wilnelia – as well as nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Chloe Crowhurst and Jon Clark reportedly dating – again

OHMYGOSSIP — Chloe Crowhurst and Jon Clark have reportedly rekindled their romance.
The ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ star is believed to be dating the blonde beauty again just a few days after he called time on his relationship with his ITVBe Co-star Lauren Pope.
And it is believed Jon and Chloe enjoyed some quality time alone together at a “holiday park” in Devon where they were “openly affectionate” towards one another.
A source told The Sun Online: “They were at a holiday park with Chloe’s entire family, including her mum, and were being openly affectionate – they were going to the bar together and Jon was chatting to Chloe’s family and being really friendly.”
However, the 28-year-old reality star was keen to keep his outing with the former ‘Love Island’ star a secret.
The insider continued: “One customer asked for a selfie with them both, but Jon said he couldn’t be seen with Chloe and so they took photos separately.
“They left together shortly after that – he clearly knows her family and friends really well and they’re very comfortable around each other.”
Jon’s ex-girlfriend is “heartbroken” he has moved on from her so soon after they split.
Speaking about Lauren, 34, reaction to the news, a separate insider said: “Lauren will be heartbroken to find out that Jon’s moved on so quickly.
“Everyone suspected that Jon was still in touch with Chloe the whole time he was with Lauren, but no-one could prove it.
“Lauren will be gutted to find out that she’s been made a fool of by someone she had genuine feelings for.
“She really put herself out there for Jon and almost lost friends over the relationship, and now he’s run back to his ex so quickly? It’s horrible.”

Jake Wood finds EastEnders ‘hard work’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jake Wood finds filming for ‘EastEnders’ “hard work.”
The 45-year-old actor reprised his role as loveable bad boy Max Branning in the long-running soap last year after taking two years out to focus on other work and, although he thoroughly enjoys working on the programme again, he sometimes find his filming schedule too demanding.
He explained to OK! magazine: “Some weeks I can be really busy, but others less son – it all balances out. We’re building up for the Christmas episodes so we’re really busy. I’ve been back a year since my break. I love working there. There are exciting things happening and Max is a big part of them. It is hard work filming them because it’s full-on for us, but I think it’ll be worthwhile.”
However, although he’s excited for the festive season, the hunk is sad because his on-screen daughters Lorna Fitzgerald and Jacqueline Jossa – who play Abi and Lauren – will be leaving.
He said: “I don’t know exactly when they’ll be going, but Max will be in and around that. It’ll be sad to see them go. I’ve known Lorna since she was 10 years old and so she feels like part of my family. But I’ve got every faith they’ll go on to incredible stuff. They’re both so talented.”
But Jake – who has portrayed the suave businessman on and off since 2006 – is worried it may be the end of the road for his alter ego once the girls leave in a bid to revitalise the show for 2018.
He said recently: “Obviously them leaving will affect Max in a massive way.
“I’m waiting to hear what will happen. The Branning family is shrinking – there are just a couple of us left now. There are no guarantees.”

Mollie King finds dancing provocatively on TV ’embarrassing’

OHMYGOSSIP — Mollie King feels “embarrassed” dancing provocatively on television.
The 30-year-old singer has teamed up with dance professional AJ Pritchard on this year’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, and though the blonde beauty thought she would be well “suited” to Latin dances, she doesn’t feel as comfortable as she first thought she would, and she has admitted she finds it “really awkward” when she has to get close and intimate with AJ in a dance routine when their parents are watching.
Speaking to the Mail Online, the ‘Hair Down’ hitmaker said: “I remember thinking, ‘I’ve never done this before’. It was terrifying. I thought I’d be suited to the Latin dances with those loose movements, but actually I’m more comfortable in ones like the waltz where I’m in AJ’s arms, where he’s got me rather than me shaking it on my own. It’s like a security blanket, I guess.
“Now that is really awkward. I mean, you’re so close your bodies are touching and oh my goodness it’s a strange feeling. It was a bit ‘you are invading my body space’ at first, but the thing is it’s all so normal for AJ. He was saying things like, ‘Pull your face into me and look passionate’ and I was saying ‘AJ, your mum’s going to be in the audience’. I found it all so embarrassing.”
And the The Saturdays band member – who was in the group alongside Vanessa White, Rochelle Humes, Frankie Bridge and Una Healy – was “surprised” by how “difficult” she found learning the salsa.
She explained: “On the week we did the salsa, I was surprised at how difficult I found it. I thought, ‘Oh the salsa. That’s just how I dance with my girlfriends’, but no way.”
However, Mollie is enjoying her dance rehearsals and spending time with the 22-year-old dancer because he never fails to make her giggle, and she always wanted to quiz him on his flawless complexion.
Speaking about the expert, she said: “He doesn’t seem younger than me. He’s quite mature. He wonderful skin. It makes me want to ask him what products he uses.”
Asked if a potential romance is blossoming between them she said: “It’s not like that.”

John Ortiz joins Bumblebee movie

OHMYGOSSIP — John Ortiz is set to star in ‘The Transformers’ spin-off movie ‘Bumblebee’.
The 49-year-old actor appeared in the 2017 monster movie ‘Kong: Skull Island’ and is now set to join the ‘Transformers’ franchise alongside Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena, Deadline reports.
The forthcoming film reportedly has a new release date of December 21, 2018, which will see it go up against Warner Bros.’ ‘Aquaman’.
Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Jorge Lendeborg, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny are also set to star in the motion picture, which kicked off production at the end of July.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Michael Bay – who directed the last five ‘Transformers’ films – will produce the movie, along with executive producers Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner, Mark Vahradian and Chris Brigham.
The motion picture will be written by Christina Hodson and directed by ‘Kubo and the Two Strings’ filmmaker Travis Knight, which will be his live-action debut.
The film will be set in 1987 and sees Steinfeld play Charlie, a young woman preparing to turn 18 who finds Bumblebee battered and broken, but she soon discovers what it is capable of.
Di Bonaventura confirmed that the 20-year-old actress would play a major role in the motion picture.
He said: “We had decided to do this well before ‘The Last Knight’ had come out.
“Our feeling was that we wanted to give the audience a different experience. ‘Bumblebee’s designed to be a more intimate movie.
“What we’re trying to do is deliver, a love story may be too strong of a term, but it is a coming of age for ‘Bumblebee’ and our lead character, Hailee Steinfeld.”

Andrew Garfield had reservations about working with Mel Gibson

OHMYGOSSIP — Andrew Garfield had “long talks” with Mel Gibson before starring in ‘Hacksaw Ridge’.
The 34-year-old actor starred in the true story of pacifist United States Army corporal Desmond T. Doss – who refused to engage in combat during World War Two – and received critical acclaim for his portrayal of soldier.
However, Garfield initially hesitated before accepting the role due to Gibson’s past bad behaviour which included his infamous anti-Semitic and “sugar t**s” rant which took place on July 28, 2006, when he was arrested by Jewish deputy James Mee of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for driving under the influence after he was caught speeding in his vehicle with an open container of alcohol in Malibu, California.
The arrest report revealed the filmmaker exploded into his tirade after being informed by the arresting officer he would not be allowed to dive home where he went on to drunkenly say: “F***ing Jews … the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world. Are you a Jew?”
Garfield’s father is a Jew and although he had a secular upbringing he identifies as a Jewish and he was worried about whether a working relationship could exist between him and Gibson, 61.
However, after speaking with Mike Nichols – an American filmmaker – Garfield spent a lot of time talking with Gibson to “get to know him properly” before signing a contract.
Speaking to The I Paper, Garfield said: “I had long talks with Mel before signing and I got to know him properly as opposed to what you read. We talked about everything and I got to a very sure place. I also spoke to a mentor of mine, who is no longer with us, Mike Nichols, and I asked him what he thought of Mel. He said, ‘I think he’s a tremendous filmmaker and I think you should go work for him’. We are two Jews, Mike and me, so that was the last push I needed. Mel is a wonderful man and director; and human and fallible, as we all are.”
Garfield was nominated for an Oscar this year for his role in the war epic – the first nomination he has had – but lost out to Casey Affleck for his performance in ‘Manchester By The Sea’.
‘Hacksaw Ridge’ tells the true story of Doss, who won the Congressional Medal of Honor, after being drafted and ostracised by fellow soldiers for his pacifist stance but won the respect and adoration for his bravery after risking his life to save 75 men in the Battle of Okinawa.

Sam Rockwell loves the free booze at the Oscars

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Rockwell loves going to the Oscars for the “free booze”.
The 48-year-old actor is currently starring as police officer Jason Dixon in new drama ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’ – which was helmed by Martin McDonagh – and there has been an Oscar buzz around the film and Rockwell admitted it’s “very thrilling” top think it could be nominated for some prizes.
Speaking to The Guardian newspaper, Rockwell said: “It’s very thrilling. I’m hearing a lot of stuff – we’ll see what happens.
“We really worked our hump off on this film, so it’s very exciting – but really it’s an excuse to celebrate that with free booze.”
The film is set months after the murder of teenager Angela (Angela Newton) and there is still no culprit who has been apprehended so her mother Mildred Hayes (Frances McDormand) makes a bold move by painting three signs leading into the town with controversial messages directed at police chief William Willoughby (Woody Harrelson).
When Willoughby’s second-in-command Officer Jason Dixon (Rockwell) gets involved, tensions only increase.
Although Rockwell has had a number of successful movies under his belt, he also said he could never give up acting but understands people need to “refill” and people in his industry need to do something “important” to them.
He said: “I guess that’s why Daniel Day-Lewis goes and makes shoes or something. I could never do that. Or why Sean Penn goes to Haiti. I guess you have to refill a little bit – but I’m kind of a workhorse. It takes a toll. It took a toll on my friend Philip Seymour Hoffman. He never wanted to phone it in, on stage especially. He was a dear friend and I think he demanded an awful lot from himself.”
Hoffman was found dead in his apartment back in 2014 from an accidental drugs overdose involving a cocktail of different substances.

Jamie Dornan to star in Marie Colvin biopic A Private War

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Dornan has joined the new Marie Colvin biopic ‘A Private War’.
The 35-year-old actor – who is best known for portraying Christian Grey in the ‘Fifty Shades’ movies – has joined Rosamund Pike in the new film, which is set to be helmed by ‘Cartel Land’ director Matthew Heineman, Variety reported.
‘A Private War’ will follow the American journalist Marie Colvin, who worked for the British newspaper The Sunday Times from 1985.
She covered major conflicts across the world – from Chechyna to Sri Lanka where she lost the sight in her left eye in 2001.
Colvin was killed during a rocket attack while covering the Seige of Homs in Syria in 2012 while reporting for her newspaper.
Pike, 38, will star as the journalist but Dornan’s role in the movie is yet to be revealed.
The script, penned by Arash Amel, is based on a 2012 Vanity Fair article, written by Marie Brenner, entitled ‘Marie Colvin’s Private War’.
Meanwhile, producing is Thunder Road Pictures’ Basil Iwanyk and Kamala Films’ Marissa McMahon, with Erica Lee serving as the executive producer.
Production is planned for an October start in the UK and Middle East.
Pike has just finished filming Scott Cooper’s ‘Hostiles’ opposite Christian Bale and Ben Foster.
Dornan, on the other hand, is set to reprise his role as Christian Grey in the final instalment of the popular franchise, which is set to be released next Valentine’s Day.
The Hollywood hunk is also set to appear as Will Scarlet in ‘Robin Hood Origins’.
The film – which also features Taron Egerton as the titular character, Jamie Foxx as Little John, Eve Hewson as Maid Marian, Ben Mendelsohn as the Sheriff of Nottingham and Tim Minchin as Friar Tuck – is scheduled to be released on September 21, 2018.

Mads Mikkelsen to star in new thriller Polar

OHMYGOSSIP — Mads Mikkelsen is set to star in new action-thriller ‘Polar’.
The 51-year-old actor has appeared in a number of Hollywood blockbusters during his career, including ‘Doctor Strange’, ‘Casino Royale’ and ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’, and he is now set to star in Swedish director Jonas Akerlund’s new film.
‘Polar’ – which is an adaptation of Victor Santos’ Dark Horse graphic novel, ‘Polar: Came With the Cold’ – follows the world’s top assassin Duncan Vizla, aka the Black Kaiser, who is retiring from his former employer.
Soon he finds himself being hunted by an army of younger, faster and ruthless killers who will stop at nothing to silence him.
With no other choice, he has to return to the assassin life and he must use his deadly skills to outsmart his enemies and protect an innocent woman.
The film will be produced by Constantin Film’s Robert Kulzer, Bolt Pictures’ Jeremy Bolt, Dark Horse Entertainment’s Mike Richardson, and Keith Goldburg.
Bolt told Variety: “Mad Mikkelsen was born to play the world’s best assassin. He is totally believable as the Black Kaiser in ‘Polar’ and Jonas’ unique, vibrant but grounded an darkly comic style will set ‘Polar’ apart as an unforgettable tale.”
Recently, Mikkelsen – who has played a string of murderous psychopaths, such as Kaecilius in ‘Doctor Strange,’ super-villain Le Chiffe in ‘Casino Royale’ and cannibal doctor Hannibal Lecter in TV series ‘Hannibal’ – claimed that such characters often see beauty in the world and want to make it a better place.
Asked whether it is disturbing playing so many villains, Mads explained: “No. Villains are people on a mission who see life in a different kind of way. It’s rarely the villain that is dark.
“He is looked on as that but a good psychopath rarely goes around thinking they are a dark person.”

Taika Waititi wants to make Black Widow movie

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ director Taika Waititi wants to tackle a Black Widow standalone movie.
The 42-year-old filmmaker is currently working on the upcoming third instalment of Marvel’s series surrounding the Norse God, played by Chris Hemsworth, but he has admitted he’d “love” to put his mark on any of the MCU franchises, including creating the first standalone movie for female hero Black Widow, who is played in the ‘Avengers’ ensemble movies by Scarlett Johansson.
He said: “In all honesty, I reckon I could probably bring something pretty unique to any of the franchises. So, I’d love to see Black Widow. [I’d like to see] Black Widow as something crazy and a bit funnier than we expect it to be. Because we know her story and it’s very sullen and very dark and her history is very dark. But! What’s the funny version of that? What’s the more entertaining version of that?”
Waititi admits he always “goes for the underdog” and believes he has what it takes to bring Black Widow’s back story – which has been hinted at briefly in the ‘Avengers’ movies but never explored fully in film – to audiences.
He added to io9: “I really go for the underdog. [And] I think there’s a way in with any of the characters. You just have to find it and find what honours what’s already there with the source material but also brings it into a more entertaining form for the audience.”
The director isn’t the only one who wants to bring a Black Widow solo movie to life either, as Scarlett, 32, previously said she “often” speaks to Marvel about the idea.
Speaking last year, Scarlett said: “I talked to them about it often. It would have to fit in the idea of where they want to go. I’m invested in that character. Marvel is greatly invested in that character. If I did it, I’d have to do it while I still actually wanted to wear a skin-tight catsuit. I don’t know how much longer that’s going to be.
“I would like for it to happen under the right circumstances. I think there’s a lot of opportunity to mine that story line. She’s got a really rich origins story. There’s a lot of places you can go – you can bring it back to Russia. You could explore the Widow program. There’s all kinds of stuff that you could do with it. You could really uncover the identity of who this person is, where she comes from and where she’s part of.”
