Mile Teller: True stories mean extra responsibilities

OHMYGOSSIP — Miles Teller insists there is an “extra obligation” for actors when they are playing real people.
The 30-year-old actor is currently starring as real-life heroin addict turned firefighter Brendan McDonough in new movie ‘Only the Brave’.
McDonough was the sole survivor of the 2013 Yarnell Hill Fire in Arizona which took the lives of 19 City of Prescott firefighters.
When making the movie, Teller became good friends with McDonough and he realised he had a duty to tell his story in a truthful and honest way.
Speaking to The I Paper, Teller said: “There’s an extra obligation when you’re playing a real person. Friendship isn’t a requirement; it’s not by playing a person that we’re gonna be friends. But I’ve been lucky to get to know some pretty incredible people and, for me, it doesn’t stop when filming is done.”
Tellers – who stars alongside Josh Brolin in ‘Only the Brave’ – had to go through a boot camp, similar to what McDonough did himself to join the fire rescue service, and he found it inspiring that this man did the training while coming off heroin.
He said: “Brendan was the source for me on that. It’s not something he is proud of, but he made it through hotshot boot camp while detoxing off some heavy drugs. I went through a version of that boot camp and came into it healthy – and it was still pretty tough.”
The firefighters were given the nickname “hotshots” which in the name given to top wildland firefighters and filmmaker Joseph Kosinski said the way “they fight fires is very different”.
Kosinski said: “The way they fight fires is very different: they don’t carry water; they fight fire with fire.
“They dig lines and cut down trees and try to establish a border. They light fires, back burns, that they use to battle against the wildfire.”

Denis Villeneuve says no to Bond 25

OHMYGOSSIP — Denis Villeneuve turned down the chance to direct ‘Bond 25’ to work on ‘Dune’.
The 50-year-old filmmaker – whose last release was ‘Blade Runner 2049’ – has been one the names touted to helm the upcoming 007 movie but Villeneuve has revealed he had to say no to the spy blockbuster because he is just too “busy right now” getting ready to fulfill his dream to remake the sci-fi epic.
Speaking to website The Playlist, Villeneuve said: “The thing is I don’t know about that but listen, Daniel Craig is a very inspiring actor and I had some contact and the thing is that I’m busy right now doing ‘Dune’.
“But, I will say to have the privilege to work with him it would be a dream. I would love to work with Daniel and a Bond movie for me would be a treat. It’s a matter of timing, I guess.”
Villeneuve is a huge fan of David Lynch’s epic 1984 movie – which was adapted from Frank Herbert’s book of the same name and starred Kyle MacLachlan, Sir Patrick Stewart, Francesca Annis, Leonardo Cimino and Brad Dourif – and has always held the ambition to bring the story of the battle for the planet Arrakis back to the big screen.
Back in August, 49-year-old Craig revealed he will return as 007 for the landmark film in the series, which will hit cinemas in 2019.
It will be his final outing and will mean that he breaks Sir Roger Moore’s record as the longest-serving Bond when 2019 rolls around as he will have been in possession of the iconic part for 13 years.
As well as Villeneuve, Yann Demange and David Mackenzie have also held meetings with the production team about directing the next Bond film.
‘Dunkirk’ director Christopher Nolan and ‘Baby Driver’ filmmaker Edgar Wright are also thought to be in the running for the prestigious job.
Sam Mendes, who directed the acclaimed ‘Skyfall’ and ‘Spectre’ films, stepped away from the franchise sparking the search for new director for Eon Productions.

Michael B. Jordan to make directorial debut

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael B. Jordan will make his directorial debut on ‘The Stars Beneath Our Feet’.
The 30-year-old actor is set to helm the forthcoming film, based on the David Barclay Moore novel of the same name, after Endeavor Content acquired the big screen rights to the project – and he can’t wait to get started behind the camera.
Jordan told Deadline: “Directing has been an area I’ve wanted to explore for some time now.
“‘The Stars Beneath Our Feet’ tells a story that really spoke to me, and I’m looking forward to jumping behind the camera. I’ve had the opportunity to work with some very smart and talented directors and it inspired me to take on this new challenge.”
Jordan will produce the motion picture, while Barclay Moore will act as executive producer and pen the script based on the book, which was published in September.
The novel tells the story an African American boy who attempts to steer himself safely through the projects in Harlem following his brother’s death.
It looks set to be a busy 2018 for Jordan who was recently reported to have been cast in ‘Bittersweet life’, a remake of the 2005 Korean action thriller, in which he will portray a mobster.
The plot will explore the dark life of the gangster, who is ordered by his superiors to kill one of his lovers if they find out she has been unfaithful.
What’s more, Jordan is set to appear in the HBO film ‘Fahrenheit 451’ alongside Michael Shannon.
He has also been cast in the highly-anticipated Marvel movie ‘Black Panther’, in which he will play Erik Killmonger, an expert fighter and nemesis of Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman).
The motion picture, slated for a February 2018 release, is expected to expand on the storyline that was first introduced in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ of how T’Challa becomes the Black Panther.

Henry Cavill says superheros are ‘different factions of the human psyche’

OHMYGOSSIP — Henry Cavill believes superheros are “all different factions of the human psyche”.
The 34-year-old actor – who plays the role of Superman in the DC Extended Universe – has spoken about the enduring appeal of comic book characters ahead of the launch of the much-anticipated ‘Justice League’ film.
Henry – who stars in the new movie alongside the likes of Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot – told Den of Geek: “Watching the team dynamic as characters is one of my favourite things about this movie, because superheroes are all different factions of the human psyche, personality traits, just personified and made grand.”
Henry claimed that even though the characters are all capable of super-human things, they are still relatable to the movie-watching public.
He explained: “Everyone who’s watched this movie will have something they can associate with while watching each one of these performances.
“And everyone watching this movie is going to identify with the differences between characters and the similarities between characters as well.”
This comes shortly after Henry cited the Patty Jenkins-directed ‘Wonder Woman’ as a game changer for the DC Universe.
The dark-haired hunk admitted that the studio had made some mistakes prior to the launch ‘Wonder Woman’ – but he feels the success of that film has helped to steer the franchise back in the right direction.
Henry reflected: “Any success within the superhero universe, especially within the DC Universe, is wonderful, because I want to keep telling the Superman story; selfishly, that works for me.
“I feel like now the right mistakes have been made and they haven’t been pandered [to], and we can start telling the stories in the way they need to be told.
“It is even better to come back from a mistake or stylistic error into the correct vein because it will make it seem that much stronger. ‘Wonder Woman’ was the first step in the right direction.”

Rian Johnson to create Star Wars trilogy

OHMYGOSSIP — Rian Johnson is to create a new ‘Star Wars’ trilogy.
The 43-year-old director had the “time of [his] life working on upcoming movie ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ so is overjoyed Lucasfilm have signed him up to a new three-film set, the first of which he will write and direct, with longtime collaborator Ram Bergman on board to produce.
Rian and Ram said in a statement: “We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on ‘The Last Jedi’. ‘Star Wars’ is the greatest modern mythology and we feel very lucky to have contributed to it.
“We can’t wait to continue with this new series of films.”
And Lucasfilm bosses are looking forward to seeing what “amazing things” the filmmaker comes up with in his trilogy, which will take part in a different part of the galaxy “separate from the episodic Skywalker saga” and introduce all new characters.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said: “We all loved working with Rian on ‘The Last Jedi’.
“He’s a creative force, and watching him craft ‘The Last Jedi’ from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”
No release dates have yet been set for the movies.
It has also been announced that a live-action ‘Star Wars’ TV series is going into production.
The show will air on Disney’s own upcoming streaming service by the end of 2019.

BBC axes Ordeal by Innocence

OHMYGOSSIP — The BBC has dropped ‘Ordeal by Innocence’ from its festive schedule after its leading man Ed Westwick was accused of serious sexual assault by two women.
The broadcaster has decided not to include the upcoming Agatha Christie drama, in which the actor plays Mickey Argyll, until the police have finished their investigations.
A spokesperson for the BBC said: “These are serious allegations which Ed Westwick has strenuously denied. The BBC is not making any judgement but until these matters are resolved we will not include ‘Ordeal by Innocence’ in the schedules.”
The 30-year-old star has also decided to stop filming for ‘White Gold’ while he deals with the allegations and works cooperatively with the police during their enquiries.
They added: “The independent production company making ‘White Gold’ has informed us that Ed Westwick has paused from filming while he deals with these allegations.”
The former ‘Gossip Girl’ star is determined to clear his name after Aurélie Wynn and Kristina Cohen recently claimed they had been sexually assaulted by him.
He said on Twitter: “It is disheartening and sad to me that as a result of two unverified and provably untrue social media claims, there are some in this environment who could ever conclude I have had anything to do with such vile and horrific conduct. I have absolutely not, and am cooperating with the authorities so that they can clear my name as soon as possible.”

Amber Davies: Kem would be silly to cheat

OHMYGOSSIP — Amber Davies says Kem Cetinay would be “silly” to cheat on her with his professional partner on ‘Dancing on Ice’.
The ‘Love Island’ couple aren’t worried that a “curse” like the famous ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ one – famous for forming romantic relationships between contestants and the professionals off screen – will destroy their relationship, and if it did, the brunette beauty says her beau would be stupid to mess up what they have because she’s out of his league.
Amber said: “As long as she’s got a husband and kids I don’t really care.
“There’s nothing to worry about, he’s punching anyway. He’d be silly to go off with someone else.”
However, the 21-year-old hunk insists he’s happy in his relationship and has no intention of ditching his girlfriend, who is fully “supportive” of his decision to join the celebrity ice skating show.
He added to OK! Online:”If you’re comfortable in your relationship then we don’t need to worry about that.
Amber is so supportive. Why would I?”
Kem recently admitted he’s “really struggling” with his training for the show – and is still using a penguin stabiliser to help him get around the rink.
He’s got less than two months before he’ll have to glide out of the wings to perform his first routine for the forthcoming series of the show, but confessed he’s not a “natural” on skates and is already covered in bruises.
He said: “I’m not gonna lie – it’s really hard, and I’m really, really struggling. I’ve seen everyone else, they’re doing all these moves and cross-overs. My trainer just told me ‘Some people are natural, some people are not, and you’re not’. Yeah (I’m using a stabiliser called a penguin) and I’m wondering if they’ll let me take it out on to the ice with me on the first show …. I can’t get the hang of putting one foot forward then the other, because I’m used to walking.”

Debbie McGee got stuck in chair after injuring back on Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Debbie McGee hasn’t been able to move after she injured her back on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 59-year-old TV assistant – who was previously married to the late Paul Daniels – is set to take to the dance floor tomorrow night (11.11.17) for the ballroom and latin show but she’s concerned her routine won’t be ready as she hasn’t been able to train properly this week after twisting her back wrong during rehearsals at the beginning of the week.
Writing in her column in the Daily Telegraph newspaper, Debbie said: “We’ve got three lifts, but I’ve injured my back again so we haven’t been able to practice them much.
“I couldn’t even get up out of a chair earlier in the week. But that’s the Strictly journey I suppose.
“It’s surreal that everyone’s calling me Bendy McGee. I never thought that I would be this supple again. I guess it goes to prove that adage that ‘if you don’t use it, you lose it’.
“The thought of getting to Blackpool is so exciting. I’d do anything to dance on that ballroom floor – even the sailor’s hornpipe.”
Debbie is a frontrunner to lift the glitterball trophy on the BBC One show on December 16, after scoring a perfect 40 for her tango with professional dancer partner Giovanni Pernice last weekend.
When judge Craig Revel Horwood was asked by host Tess Daly for his comments on their performance, he remained silent and walked down in front of the judging table, leaving everyone unsure what was about to happen. He then knelt in front of Debbie and praised her, before returning to his seat next to the other judges – Shirley Ballas, Bruno Tonioli and Darcey Bussell – who were visibly shocked.
Just in case they are victorious on the live final, Debbie will reportedly no longer be starring as fairy Adorabella Marigold Angelpi in ‘Beauty and the Beast’ at the Grand Opera House in York, Northeast England on December 15 and 16.
Instead, the entertainer’s understudy is to replace her for the two shows, for which Debbie was to perform alongside Blue singer Anthony Costa.

Christopher Biggins vomited after eating marijuana

OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher Biggins “threw up millions of times” after he ingested marijuana.
The TV legend agreed to try some of the Class-B drug as part of the new ITV programme ‘Gone To Pot’, which she filmed with Pam St. Clement, Bobby George, Linda Robson and John Fashanu, but the ingredient clearly didn’t agree with him as he was unable to stand, vomited several times and had to be escorted to bed.
Speaking on ‘Loose Women’ on Friday (10.11.17), he said: “I was so ill, I couldn’t stand up, and I threw up millions of times. And then I couldn’t walk so i had to be taken off the bus and put into a bed… The next morning I woke up and I’m in a cave with trees and things… I thought I’d died and gone to hell.”
And the 68-year-old star was left even more puzzled when he woke up in the morning to find him surrounded by large trees – and was actually convinced he’d died.
He explained: “I woke up in a cave filled with trees, and thought, ‘I’ve died and gone to hell.’ We were in fact in the Madonna Inn, in California, where I’ve always wanted to go and I was in the jungle room!”
Despite his horrific experience with edible marijuana, Biggins believes it is a “fantastic plant” for medical reasons and has helped so many people with seizures.
He added: “We all felt that medicinally it is a fantastic plant. It does so many amazing things… Something has to be done because it’s helping people who need to be helped.”
Meanwhile, former ‘EastEnders’ actress Pam recently opened up about smoking a joint and bong at an ‘alternative’ art class as part of the programme.
She explainedr: “We were taken to this warehouse . . .  there were easels, tables and chairs. We jumped in with both feet and sat down and started to paint this cactus.
“The guy came round with this joint and I took a puff, and [dart player Bobby George] took a puff then we got on with this painting. I thought, ‘Oh well this a terrible painting and I don’t know what to do with it’. I made it into an alien in the end. It wasn’t a cactus at all.”
‘Gone To Pot’ starts on ITV at 9pm on Monday (13.11.17).

Chloe Crowhurst charged with drink-driving

OHMYGOSSIP — Chloe Crowhurst has been charged with drink-driving.
The 22-year-old former ‘Love Island’ contestant will appear at the Magistrates’ Court on November 20 after she failed a breathalyser test when police stopped her last weekend in Crawley, West Sussex, following a boozy night out the day before.
A police spokesperson told the Sun Online: “At 12.20pm on Sunday 5 November, police received a report of a driver suspected to be under the influence of alcohol leaving the Holiday Inn in Haslett Avenue East, Crawley.
“Officers located and stopped a silver Ford Ka matching the description of the vehicle reported in Hawth Avenue, and the driver was required to undertake a roadside breath test, which she failed.
“Chloe Crowhurst, 22, a TV employee, of Romford, Havering, was arrested and charged with driving with 50mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in her system.
“She was released on unconditional bail and is due to appear before Crawley Magistrates’ Court on November 20.”
And, although she didn’t seem bothered when she appeared at the ITV Gala in London last night (09.11.17), her friend has revealed she feels bad about getting behind the wheel after a night of drinking and is just relieved nothing catastrophic happened.
The pal explained to the publication: “What she did was really stupid – she’d only had a few hours of sleep. She’s lucky she was stopped just after she left the hotel otherwise something horrible could have happened.”
Her run in with the law comes just a few weeks after it was rumoured that she’d rekindled her romance with Jon Clark following his split from Lauren Pope.
A source said recently: “They were at a holiday park with Chloe’s entire family, including her mum, and were being openly affectionate – they were going to the bar together and Jon was chatting to Chloe’s family and being really friendly.”

Stephen Bear to return to Celebs Go Dating

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephen Bear will return to ‘Celebs Go Dating’ next year.
The former ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ winner – who is simply known as Bear – was kicked off the E4 dating show in January after producers found out he was dating Charlotte Crosby but, following their very public split last month, they’ve decided to give him another chance and have invited him back for the next series in 2018.
An insider told the Sun Online: “Bear is really looking forward to joining the show once again, and has vowed to take it seriously this time.
“He’s excited to meet some nice girls and hopefully find love.”
His new gig comes just days after it was revealed he’d quit his presenting gig on ‘Just Tattoo Of Us’, which he hosted with the blonde beauty, after he’d received a better offer.
A source said recently: “Bear has been offered another gig and the dates clashed with ‘Just Tattoo Of Us’ filming so he has decided to leave. MTV tried their best to come up with a solution but it just wasn’t possible. Once Bear was offered the other job, producers knew it was only a matter of time before he quit the show.”
Bosses at MTV are no doubt devastated to see the 27-year-old reality TV star go as they were trying to come up with a solution so that he and Charlotte, 27, could both present the show but separately so that there wasn’t any animosity on screen.
A source explained: “Charlotte and Bear just can’t work together since they broke up. One minute they love each other – the next it’s hate.
“MTV are desperate to keep them both involved with the show, they don’t want a ‘him or her’ situation. There are discussions taking place now to try and work it all out. They think they could split the show between them and have them present separate episodes. Scotty T would be great for Charlotte to work with but it’s not clear at the moment who Stephen’s co-presenter would be.
“No contracts have been signed yet. It could all change in a couple of days though – both sides are weighing up the options right now.”

John Lewis’ festive ad features farting monster

OHMYGOSSIP — John Lewis’ highly-anticipated Christmas advent features a farting monster.
The high street giant unveiled its latest campaign, which signals the start of the festive season for the nation, this morning (10.11.17) and it certainly didn’t disappoint as it depicts the tale of seven-year-old boy called Joe who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a seven-foot beast called Moz, who is living under his bed, after his snoring keeps him awake at night.
The young boy suffers a series of restless nights as the hoots and howls from Moz’s mouth stop him from getting some shut eye but, one night in the run-up to Christmas Day (25.12.17), he discovers what has been disrupting his sleep as the scruffy giant lets rip a large fart.
The youngster falls into a fit of giggles and looks under the bed to find the long-haired creature with bulging, long gnashers and a large nose resting on his back under the slats.
The pair quickly become best friends but Moz is kept hidden under Joe’s bed until everyone in the house is asleep. He then emerges and the duo spend the night playing games.
But the late nights start to have an impact on the schoolboy and he struggles to stay awake during the day – falling asleep at school, during a football game and at the kitchen table.
Moz realises his presence his wreaking havoc for Joe and he decides the best thing for him to do is to leave the little boy – but not before he leaves a thoughtful gift under the tree.
Joe wakes up on Christmas morning to discover a badly wrapped snow globe sat among his presents and when he flicks on the special gift, he hears his imaginary friend’s snoring.
The soundtrack that accompanies the advert, which was directed by Oscar-winnter Michel Gondry, is a cover of The Beatles’ ‘Golden Slumbers’ by Elbow.

Sharon Osbourne’s frank chat with X Factor ‘diva’ Grace Davies

OHMYGOSSIP — Sharon Osbourne told ‘X Factor’ hopeful Grace Davies to reign in her diva demands backstage on Sunday (05.11.17).
The 65-year-old showbiz legend was reportedly unimpressed to hear that the 20-year-old wannabe pop star – who has been a frontrunner to win the ITV talent show after impressing the judges with her original song on her first audition – had been throwing her weight around with the producers and crew and gave her a firm talking to after the programme was aired to talk about her “attitude”.
An insider revealed: “Grace is undoubtedly a talent and marked herself out as a definite contender early on, but it seems to have gone right to her head.
“Sharon is having none of it and after she heard some of the talk about Grace’s behaviour backstage, she pulled her into her dressing room at the studios.
“She told her to get her attitude in check because success in showbiz is all about working with people and getting the best team around you.
“It was very awkward for all involved, but hopefully that’ll be the end of the matter and Grace will get back to her best.”
A production source also explained that Sharon is only trying to do her best by Grace, and that the young star can sometimes feel like her desire to be the best may make her come across as hard work.
They added to The Sun newspaper: “Sharon knows how much this means to Grace, who is beside herself that people may mistake her need to be a perfectionist as being difficult.”
Whilst Grace has been a favourite contender to win the show, boyband Rak-Su, who are mentored by head judge Simon Cowell, have been impressing viewers and the rest of the judging panel – which is also made up of Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh.

June Brown splashes wee on her face for new TV show

OHMYGOSSIP — June Brown will splash wee on her face for a new TV show.
The 90-year-old actress – who is best known for playing the iconic Dot Cotton on BBC soap ‘EastEnders’ – is set to have urine put on her face and snails crawl across her skin for ITV’s ‘100 Years Younger in 21 Days’.
A source shared: “It is one of ITV’s most bonkers shows yet.”
June will be joined on the bizarre-sounding programme by musician Shaun Ryder and seven other celebrities as, collectively, they try to shed 100 years off their looks.
The TV insider told The Sun newspaper: “Some of the techniques are absolutely out of this world, but luckily the celebrities have agreed to get stuck in.
“They’ve already started filming and it’s proving to be a very interesting process. Viewers will see June as never before.”
Despite her apparent desire to look younger, June admitted back in 2014 that she smokes 20 cigarettes a day, having started the habit when she was just 16.
Asked about her vices, the actress revealed: “Lots of coffee, an occasional gin and tonic and about 20 cigarettes a day – I started smoking at 16. I’m not an inhaler, though.”
June also revealed she took numerous pills on a daily basis in a bid to maintain her health.
Asked whether she pops any pills, the veteran star shared: “At least 14 vitamins and supplements. I’ve taken magnesium, selenium, Omega 3-6-9, folic acid and zinc for decades.”

Gemma Collins ‘offers to drop legal action plans for Strictly role’

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Collins is reportedly willing to drop her threat to sue the BBC following her Radio 1 Teen Awards fall – in exchange for a place on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 36-year-old reality TV star admitted afterwards she was lucky to be alive following her SSE Arena tumble, but it is now said she “will not pursue legal action” if she is able to sign up to the ballroom and Latin show next year.
A source told The Sun: “Gemma is deadly serious about the ‘Strictly’ trade off.
“She has said to BBC that she will not pursue legal action if they give her a slot on the show. She loves Strictly and has always wanted to have a crack at it. She thinks this might be her chance to get on the show.”
Gemma was left nursing a bad back and bruises after she dramatically fell through a trap door at the ceremony, and revealed plans to consult her lawyer.
She said: “I’m in total shock. It is a miracle I am living to tell the tale.
“I could have died or at least been disabled at the end of it. I could have been legless. Legless!
“I’ve got to consult a lawyer, yeah. The BBC, they’ve not been in touch with any compensation or anything – or even an apology.
“It’s very important this gets sorted out because really you know what it is – it’s negligence. Do you know what I find shocking? The BBC hasn’t sent any flowers. Nothing.”
But BBC insiders later insisted Gemma had been given a “full briefing” before she took to the stage and was warned about the trap door, from which a hydraulic platform lifted out ‘Love Island’ stars Amber Davies, Jamie Jewitt and Marcel Somerville.
The corporation said: “The BBC takes the health and safety of everyone involved very seriously and we are awaiting a full report from Remedy – the production company who made the show – about the incident. But they have told us that Gemma did receive a full briefing before going on stage.
“Before Gemma went on the female producer told her there was a trap door in the middle of the stage. The [producer] told Gemma to stay to the left. It’s not true that Gemma wasn’t warned about it.”

Naomi Scott’s new take on Princess Jasmine

OHMYGOSSIP — Naomi Scott said Princess Jasmine is a “multidimensional woman”.
The 24-year-old actress has been cast as the fearless princess in Guy Ritchie’s live-action remake of the Disney classic ‘Aladdin’, and said there are “so many amazing new things” about her character.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Scott said: “There are so many amazing new things about the character in this adaptation – I could literally go on for an hour.
“Everyone involved in this project weren’t afraid to really just rip things down and start again, especially the Princess Jasmine character, because it’s so important to get that right. I love what Disney is doing at the moment with their princesses – going from animation to live-action and making those animated characters real human beings.
“Being a female character is also about being a real person and guess what? She can be strong and have fun, but also get it wrong and be emotional.
“She’s a multidimensional woman, and she doesn’t have to just be one thing. So in this movie, you see her go on such a roller coaster, as opposed to her one goal being to fall in love or get married.”
Scott joins an impressive cast including Will Smith as The Genie, Mena Massoud as the titular street urchin and Marwan Kenzari as Jafar.
Former ‘Saturday Night Live’ star Nasim Pedrad has been chosen to play new character Dalia, a handmaiden and friend to Jasmine.
Scott said it was “crazy” in the 1992 original animation that Princess Jasmine was the only female in the entire film.
She said: “I never realised it, but in the animation, Jasmine is really the only female character – isn’t that crazy?
“The Dalia character is so important to this movie because she’s the only other female character. She may be the handmaiden but they’re best friends; they’re so close because they’ve grown up together.
“So we wanted people to watch the movie and see Jasmine’s relationship with another woman, and be like, ‘ah that’s what I’m like with my girlfriend’, or ‘we would so do that if I was in that position’.
“That’s something that’s missing from the animation.”
The story is based on the Middle Eastern folk tale of Aladdin who is granted three wishes by a genie who is captive inside a magic lamp.
The 1992 original animated feature – which saw the late great Robin Williams voice The Genie – won two Oscars, Best Music and Original Song for ‘A Whole New World’.
‘Aladdin’ has also been turned into a hit stage show playing at theatres all over the world.
