Red Dwarf to get 30th anniversary series

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Red Dwarf’ is to get a new series to celebrate the show’s 30th anniversary.
The final episode of ‘Red Dwarf XII’ will draw to a close on Thursday (16.11.17), but the creator of the cult sci-fi comedy series, Doug Naylor, has revealed that he’s already working on another script and planning to produce a live show to take place at London’s The O2 arena.
On the future of the programme – which sees actor Craig Charles in the starring role of Dave Lister – he said: “I’ve started writing the next lot.
“It’s the 30th anniversary next year so we want to do a tour at some point (as well) – a live show at The O2.
“We’ll probably do ‘Red Dwarf XIII’, live show and come back and probably do XIV afterward that.”
The current series saw the return of much-loved character Holly, portrayed by comedian Norman Lovett, and Doug has revealed they were forced to cut his opening scenes because there was so much noise from the applauding audience.
He said: “We had to cut down Norman Lovett’s entrance scene as there was so much cheering and clapping!”
The 61-year-old screenwriter also said their failed attempt at making a movie out of the show didn’t work out, and that they were hoping to make three films from it.
He said: “The ‘Red Dwarf’ movie would have been the first of three.”
‘Red Dwarf XII’ saw Lister and his pals face-off a friendly Adolf Hitler and Vlad the Impaler, before the entire cast transformed into mechanoids, large spherical robots originally built by humans to help colonise worlds and much more.
Tonight’s (16.11.17) final instalment titled ‘Skipper’, sees Arnold Rimmer (Chris Barrie) get his hands on a Quantum Skipper and end up in a completely different dimension, that turns out to be good for him.
The synopsis reads: “Rimmer looks for another dimension where he is not such a giant loser. Well, you never know …”
‘Red Dwarf XII’ concludes at 9pm on Dave – with the full series available to enjoy on UKTV Play.

Matt Terry wants to be coach on The Voice

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Terry wants to become a coach on ‘The Voice’.
The ‘X Factor’ winner may have a shot to fame last year when he was crowned the champion of the singing show, but he has admitted he’s got his eye on the rival series’ judging panel after Olly Murs was recently announced as the new panellist.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, the 24-year-old hunk said: “I would love to be a coach [on ‘The Voice’]. I loved being on ‘The X Factor’ as a contestant so much it would be great to explore further and I know what they’re going through.”
And Matt doesn’t think Simon Cowell – who was annoyed when he found out Olly had joined ‘The Voice’ – would mind if he jumped ship because he’ll always be his act.
He explained: “He set up meetings for me in Miami, he invited me to his summer parties, charity events and put me in touch with some great contacts.”
However, Olly hasn’t had the same response as he claimed that he hasn’t heard from the 58-year-old music mogul since it was announced he’d be joining the show.
The 33-year-old singer said: “I haven’t heard from Simon. But you know, if he’s upset, then… I don’t believe in rivalries. ‘X Factor’ was an incredible part of my life and now I’m taking the next chapter and becoming a coach here on ‘The Voice’. I’m loving it and there’s no hard feelings from me, anyway. If he wants to call me, call me.”
But, despite the suspected animosity between him and Simon, Olly can’t wait to get stuck into the show and is determined to do all he can to help his acts win the series.
He said: “I’m absolutely buzzing about being a coach on ‘The Voice UK’
and can’t wait to sit in the big red chair alongside will, Jennifer and Tom.
“I’m excited to mentor new artists and without doubt, I’m in it to WIN!”
Olly was chosen as a mentor on ‘The Voice’ by bosses after they axed Gavin Rossdale – who has kids Kingston, 11, Zuma, nine, and Apollo, three, with his former partner Gwen Stefani, as well as 28-year-old Daisy Lowe with Pearl Lowe – from the programme earlier this year as they didn’t feel like he had the right energy.
Jennifer, will.i.am and Sir Tom were also involved in last year’s series.

Ant and Dec take Scarlett Moffatt under their wing

OHMYGOSSIP — Ant and Dec have taken Scarlett Moffatt under their wing.
The former ‘Gogglebox’ star, 27, will start her new presenting gig on ‘Extra Camp’ this weekend but, although she’s understandably nervous about doing live television, she feels at ease because the ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ presenting duo have been giving her some advice and reassured her that she just needs to be herself.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, she said: “They just said: ‘Just be you’ which coming from them, when they are my absolute heroes, gives me the confidence to just be me. If they have faith in me, I must be doing something half decent.
“It’s like my mum and dad are here … I had a little knock on my trailer and I was like: ‘I know that knock.’ I just had a special feeling.”
It wasn’t known whether Ant would be well enough to return to host the main show alongside his best friend because he entered rehab over the summer for addiction to prescription pills but he has admitted he’s feeling “great” following his treatment.
The 41-year-old presenter said: “I’m excited to be back, I can’t wait.
“It’s going to be a good show. I’m feeling great. The flight [to Australia] was all right, I had a lot of sleep and me and Dec had a good catch-up.”
And the feeling is mutual for Dec as he’s glad he has his partner back by his side and has teased that the new series will be full of “little added twists.”
He explained: “I’m looking forward to spending more time with him.
“It’s brilliant to be back together, it’s perfect. Everything just slotted back into place. We can’t wait and we’re raring to go. We are really excited. We’ll have the same old shenanigans, but with a few little added twists. We just can’t wait to get in and get going now. We’ve been waiting for ages, it’s been a long summer break so we can’t wait.”

Joe McFadden may quit Holby City

OHMYGOSSIP — Joe McFadden has hinted he may quit ‘Holby City’ next year.
The 42-year-old actor – who plays dedicated doctor Raf di Lucca – is currently taking part in the on-going series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and has admitted he’s enjoying his time on the ballroom and latin show so much that he’s toying with the idea of walking away from the medical drama and tipping his toe in musical world again.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, he said: “‘Strictly Come Dancing’ has given me the hunger to do live entertainment again, perhaps a little play or a musical. It’s sort of given me a hunger for going out into the world and doing other stuff. So perhaps my time might be coming to an end in the near future is all I’m saying. Now I’ve got the dancing feet, it would be a shame to not do a little musical instead or disco dancing.”
And it’s not just the routines and performing with his professional partner Katya Jones that he’s enjoying and he’s also developed a love for weekly fake tan sessions.
He added: “I’m doing the fake tans every week — it’s all part of the experience. In fact, I went double dark the other day. It’s like a colour chart where you choose.”
However, there are some parts of the dancing show that Joe is still trying to get his head around – the restrictive costumes.
He explained: “Some of the things are quite surprising, like your shirt is attached to your pants which I found quite odd in the beginning.
“And being stitched into things . . .  they always stitch you in just in case buttons pop open — unless they are supposed to be open for things like the Paso Doble.”

Scarlett Moffatt wants Jennie McAlpine to win I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!

OHMYGOSSIP — Scarlett Moffatt wants ‘Coronation Street’ actress Jennie McAlpine to replace her as the Queen of the Jungle.
The 27-year-old TV personality won ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’ in 2016 and Scarlett has backed Jennie, who plays Fiz Brown on the ITV soap, to take her crown this year.
She explained: “I want Jennie to win, she seems nice and real. I’d like another girl to win to carry on the girl power.”
Despite this, Scarlett believes YouTube star Jack Maynard will prove to be popular with younger viewers, including her little sister.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Scarlett said: “I am excited for Jack. My little sister likes him and she is 11.
“When I was in there last year, apart from her sister, she didn’t know who anyone was. It is good kids can watch it and see people they know on YouTube.”
The newly-single star is currently preparing for her presenting stint on the ‘Extra Camp’ spin-off programme.
And Scarlett has admitted she’s too busy with her career at the moment to focus on finding a new boyfriend.
She shared: “I’m single and, honestly, I’m that busy looking at scripts or a camera that I’m not even looking for a man right now.”
Meanwhile, Scarlett recently claimed she’s keen to compete on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ again.
The former ‘Gogglebox’ star explained: “I want to be like Katie Price and go back in. Even though I had such a good experience, there would be different people so you’d learn new things about yourself.
“Ant and Dec’s advice to me was, ‘Be yourself’ and I’m like, ‘Well if they think I’m all right, then that’s OK because they know what they’re talking about.'”

Gail Porter doesn’t think she’s ‘pretty enough’ for Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Gail Porter doesn’t think she’s “pretty” enough for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 46-year-old presenter, who lost her hair to alopecia in 2005, doesn’t think she’d ever be approached for the BBC ballroom and Latin show because her bald head could cause problems for the hair and make-up departments.
She said: “I don’t think ‘Strictly’ would ever ask me. I’m not pretty enough for TV – I’ve no hair so what would they do with me? What if the wig fell off?
“There are so many more important things than me doing telly.”
Gail – who has 15-year-old daughter Honey with ex-husband Dan Hipgrave – also doesn’t believe she’s “pretty enough” to find love again.
She said: “Am I looking for love? No. I’m quite happy.
“I’m not very pretty. I still don’t feel pretty enough for love.
“You never know, maybe one day, but it’s not top of my list.”
Instead, the former ‘Top of the Pops’ presenter is focusing her attention on raising her daughter.
She said: “Now I’ve got a teenager, I want to make sure her life is perfect.
“Obviously nobody’s life is ever really perfect, but I want her to know her mum is there for her.
“She knows everything I have been through, and she’s like my best friend.”
Gail experimented with a wig earlier this year, and though she enjoyed it at first, the hairpiece made her feel emotional and she’s not worn it again since.
She told Closer magazine: “It was lovely – it was just really odd because when I put it on, I enjoyed it for the first few minutes and then I suddenly thought, ‘Oh my gosh, I miss my hair’ so I got a bit teary.
“I’ve never worn it again. I think I’m so used to being bald now. Anyway, my daughter and my friends love me as I am.”

Billi Mucklow gives birth

OHMYGOSSIP — Billi Mucklow has become a mother for the second time.
The former ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star has given birth to her and her footballer fiance Andy Carroll’s son, and the pair have named the youngster Wolf Nine.
Captioning a picture of the couple – who also have two-year-old son Arlo – with their newborn baby, she wrote on Instagram: “Wolf Nine Carroll You Have Stole Our Hearts 15-11-17 #BabyBoy #Wolfie #MyLittleChubbyCub (sic)”
She also shared a picture of a blue bib with Wolf’s initials, W9C, on.
Billi, 28, wrote: “Wolf Nine Carroll You Have Stole Our Hearts 15-11-17 #BabyBoy #Wolfie #MyLittleChubbyCub (sic)”
While it’s not known why the pair have given their son the moniker Wolf Nine, the number could be a reference to the figure Andy – who is also a dad to Emilie Rose, eight, and son Lucas, five, from a previous relationship – wears on his back while playing for West Ham.
David Beckham named his daughter Harper Seven after the number he preferred wearing during his football career for England and Manchester United.
Billi announced in May that she and Andy were expecting their second child together while on holiday.
Alongside a photograph of the blonde beauty holding Arlo in one arm on the beach and her other hand pressed against her swollen belly, she wrote: “Suns Out Bump Out #BabyCarrollOnTheWay #BabyOnBoard (sic)”, followed by a heart-eye emoji.
Billi and Andy, 28, have been dating since the summer of 2013 and got engaged in November 2014.

Super Mario Bros to be made into animated movie

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Super Mario Bros’ is set to be made into an animated movie.
Illumination Entertainment is reportedly in talks with Nintendo to make a new film based around the two Italian plumbers Mario and Luigi, who became global icons following the launch of their own series on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, The Wall Street Journal reports.
The company, which is owned by Chris Meledandri and Universal Studios, has created a number of hugely popular movies including ‘Despicable Me’, ‘Minions’ and ‘The Secret Life of Pets’.
Since the first ‘Super Mario’ game was released there have been numerous follow-ups across all of Nintendo’s consoles requiring players to guide Mario on his quest to rescue Princess Peach.
The most recent installment in the series is this year’s ‘Super Mario Odyssey’ which hit the Switch in October.
As well as the main series, Mario and the associated cast of characters have appeared in numerous spin-off titles such as ‘Mario Kart’, ‘Dr. Mario’, ‘Paper Mario’ and ‘Super Smash Bros’.
Although negotiations are still ongoing about the potential new movie, in 2015 Nintendo agreed with Universal Parks and Resorts to be allowed to build attractions based around the iconic characters.
Illumination Entertainment currently has four untitled films slated for release in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Back in 1993, the video game was adapted into a live-action movie starring Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo.
However, the film was slated by critics and bombed at the box office after its release, but despite being dubbed a terrible film, it has since gained a large cult following and fan-made sequel comic was created.

F. Murray Abraham joins How To Train Your Dragon 3

OHMYGOSSIP — F. Murray Abraham has joined ‘How To Train Your Dragon 3’.
The 78-year-old ‘Scarface’ actor will be lending his voice to the villain Grimmel, who is reportedly set to cause problems for the hero of the franchise Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and his Night Fury dragon Toothless.
Chris deFaria, head of DreamWorks Animation Film Group, said: “We are thrilled that F. Murray Abraham has joined our ‘How To Train Your Dragon 3’ cast as the villainous Grimmel. This character bring a captivating new storyline to the culmination of our trilogy.
“There is a gentlemanly calm to this sinister role, one that dovetails beautifully with this iconic actor’s immense range and talents.”
‘How To Train Your Dragon 3’ – which is set to be helmed by Dean DeBlois – was previously due to be released this year, before being changed to 2017 and more recently, to 2018.
In 2015, DreamWorks Animation chief Jeffrey Katzenberg said the biggest issue with scheduling times was due to the restructuring of DreamWorks – the movie production company – and conceded that the three-films-a-year plan was very ambitious.
The original ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ came to screens in 2010 and was a considerable success.
The movie introduced Hiccup, a misfit teenager who studies at a dragon-fighting school – and he tries to prove that he is a true Viking.
‘How To Train Your Dragon 2’, meanwhile, was released in 2014 and saw Hiccup off on another adventure to discover unexplored lands.
Abraham will be joining Baruchel, Cate Blanchett, America Ferrara and Kit Harington – who have already lent their voices to characters in the hit franchise.
‘How To Train Your Dragon 3’ is now slated to be released in March 2019.

Richard Armitage misses working on The Hobbit

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Armitage has revealed he misses ‘The Hobbit’.
The 46-year-old actor starred as Thorin Oakenshield in the hit Peter Jackson trilogy, and Armitage admitted he misses working in New Zealand, but is looking forward to getting behind a big franchise again with ‘Ocean’s Eight’.
In an interview with Den of Geek, Armitage said: “I miss it. I loved working in New Zealand, I loved working with Warner Bros., I mean I’ve worked with them three times since actually and you know I worked on ‘Ocean’s Eight’ at the beginning of this year, which will be premiering in June next year, so I’ll be back in that cycle of a big movie junket. It’s interesting because you put as much effort in to working a film, as you do making a film and I used to really dislike that side of it, but I actually love it now, because the time when you actually get out and come face-to-face with the fans – sometimes with independent movies they go to festivals and they get a limited release and you don’t always get to sort of meet people and talk about the project as much.
“So in that respect I could talk about ‘The Hobbit’ for the rest of my life because I had such a good time doing it.”
Armitage starred alongside Martin Freeman, Sir Ian McKellen and Benedict Cumberbatch in the prequel trilogy to ‘Lord of the Rings’, and Armitage would love to work with filmmaker Jackson again.
He said: “I was very close to working with Peter and Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh this year on Christian Rivers’ latest movie (‘Mortal Engines’), but I couldn’t quite make it work, because of ‘Berlin Station’.
“But I know that I’ll work with them again in the future and I’ll be back in New Zealand at some point, so ‘The Hobbit’ has left such a legacy with me, that it’s sort of a little beating heart that I’ll always be grateful for.”

James Franco was uncomfortable with Oscar attention

OHMYGOSSIP — James Franco was “uncomfortable with the attention” of being nominated for an Oscar at the same ceremony he co-hosted.
The 39-year-old actor starred in the survival movie ‘127 Hours’ in 2010 and was nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for his performance as real-life American climber Aron Ralston who had to amputate his own right forearm with a pocketknife when his limb got trapped in a boulder whilst he was scaling a canyon.
Although Franco was very proud to be recognised for his work he readily admits he developed a “fear of losing” which would be further highlighted because he and Anne Hathaway were hosting the 83rd Academy Awards in 2011 at which he was up for the accolade.
Speaking to Variety, Franco said: “At the time I justified it to myself. ‘This will be an experiment. This will be weird.’
“Part of me was so uncomfortable with the attention of being nominated, but also fear of losing, because everybody was talking about Colin Firth.”
Franco eventually lost out on the prestigious prize to Firth who won for his portrayal of British monarch King George VI in ‘The King’s Speech’.
As well as losing on the night, Franco was also criticised for his hosting efforts and in hindsight he believes his efforts to be “the straight man” ended up making him “the dead man” next to Hathaway.
He said: “I mean, I shouldn’t have been doing it. Honestly, I think the biggest criticism of me, it seem like I was high or low energy.
“In my head, I was trying to be the straight man. I guess I just went too far or came across as the dead man.”

Mary J. Blige used own experiences in Mudbound

OHMYGOSSIP — Mary J. Blige used the emotions she experienced in her split from her husband when making ‘Mudbound’.
The 46-year-old rapper-turned-actress stars as Florence Jackson in the new drama from Dee Rees – which follows the unlikely friendship between two men, one white and one black, as they find common ground after they return from World War Two – and she used her own life experiences to bring the character to life.
Last year, Blige filed for divorce from her husband and former manager Martin ‘Kendu’ Isaacs after 14 years together due to rumours of his infidelity and she is unable to speak to her three stepchildren due to the acrimonious nature of their split and the pain she has endured from that situation motivated her performance.
Speaking to the Metro newspaper, Blige said: “It was definitely therapeutic and perfect timing. I drew on my experiences from being a stepmother but I also took a lot of my challenges, which is a lot of heaviness, sadness and uncertainty. I just gave everything to Florence. And once I was done I was able to let of it go. I’m definitely stronger now but I’m still dealing with a lot.
“There’s so much beauty right now, though, with this film, it’s really overweighing the darkness and negativity that come with this type of foolishness.”
Blige stars alongside Carey Mulligan, Jason Mitchell, Garrett Hedlund and Jason Clarke in the movie, which is based on Hillary Jordan’s novel of the same name.
And the singer said the script is “so relevant” and after one particular scene where her on-screen son gets lynched, Blige was “destroyed” after someone was lynched in Atlanta the day after.
She said: “The script was so relevant, which is really sad. The day we did a particular scene, I got a text to tell me someone had been lynched in Atlanta. All day long I was destroyed, so the tears were from the divorce but also the disbelief there was a lynching. And was this the only one we know about? It’s still happening – and with our leader saying it’s cool, it’s awful. If this film is going to be a vessel to help see ourselves clear then I’m glad I was a part of it.”

Taraji P. Henson to star in remake of What Women Want

OHMYGOSSIP — Taraji P. Henson is set to star in the female-centred remake of ‘What Women Want’.
The 47-year-old actress – who is best known for starring in the TV drama ‘Empire’ – will take on the leading role in the new film ‘What Men Want’, a lose remake of the 2000 Nancy Meyers movie.
In the original movie, Mel Gibson plays New York ad executive Nick Marshall who, after a freak accident, gains the ability to read the minds of women and uses his new powers to get ahead in his career and romantically until he falls in love with Helen Hunt’s alter ego Darcy McGuire.
Now Paramount Players are hoping to fast track the remake which will see Henson playing a female sports agent who has been constantly out boxed by her male colleagues.
When she gains the power to hear men’s thoughts, she starts to shift the paradigm to her own advantage as she races to sign the NBA’s next superstar.
The new film, which is slated to be released in 2019, will be produced by Will Packer – who previously worked with Henson on ‘No Good Deed’ – and James Lopez.
This isn’t the first time Hollywood has re-worked a film with a female focus.
Last year, the cult classic ‘Ghostbusters’ was remade with a full female team – starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Leslie Jones – but unlike the original, the film was heavily criticised and disappointed at the box office.
Next year, there will be another female-orientated remake of some sorts with ‘Ocean’s Eight’ – a new take on the George Clooney and Brad Pitt led ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ franchise.
‘Ocean’s Eight’ has a star-studded cast, including Anne Hathaway, Sandra Bullock, Rihanna and Hailey Baldwin.
The film will see Matt Damon reprise his role as Linus Caldwell from the ‘Ocean’s’ franchise too.

Dev Patel cast as the lead in The Wedding Guest

OHMYGOSSIP — Dev Patel has reportedly been cast in the lead role in ‘The Wedding Guest’.
The 27-year-old actor – who has previously starred in hit films such as ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and ‘Lion’ – has been cast by the British filmmaker Michael Winterbottom, who has also been busily scouting locations to shoot the movie.
At the moment, details of the plot are few and far between, but the movie will be predominantly shot in India, according to Variety.
It has also been reported Winterbottom will produce the movie alongside his professional partner Melissa Parmenter and Deepak Nayar, one of the founders of Riverstone Pictures.
Dev has become one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood in recent years, featuring in a string of hit movies.
But the British star previously claimed he’d simply been fortunate to have worked with some of the industry’s best directors.
Of his career success, Dev explained: “I’ve just been really lucky to be surrounded by some amazing filmmakers, Danny Boyle [‘Slumdog Millionaire’], Aaron Sorkin [‘Newsroom’], John Madden did ‘Shakespeare in Love’, Jon Blomkamp [‘Chappie’], all these guys and they’re incredible.”
Dev also revealed that, long term, he has ambitions to work behind the camera.
He shared: “I would love to be able to get behind a camera and give birth to a story instead of coming in at the later stages of it and just say the lines once they’ve been set in stone.
“So, that would be an experience I would love to do and I think it would make me a better performer. Tasting food is one thing but understanding how it’s made is something else altogether.”

Jessica Chastain shuns traditional female roles

OHMYGOSSIP — Jessica Chastain doesn’t go for “traditional female roles”.
The ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ star prefers to opt for different roles in Hollywood movies as she wants to help “break free of stereotypes”.
She said: “I am not one to go for traditional female roles, because I don’t think traditionally female characters are very interesting, and I don’t think they represent real life. I’m working hard to break free of stereotypes that the film industry has created and nurtured around women.
“It’s about whether the character is flesh and blood, a real human being with her own desires separate from a husband or boy or love interest. I think the industry is beginning to examine itself and how it has perceived female roles. I’m seeing a lot of really interesting discussions, and I do think it’s changing.”
And the 40-year-old actress – who is married to Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo – thinks there is a “long way to go” before we reach a place of complete equality between men and women and between races.
She told Town and Country magazine: “We have a long way to go in the world in all industries. If I’m in the situation where I have equal experience to the other actor and my role is just as significant, there is no reason why I should be paid less. It’s not really part of my world anymore, because I just won’t accept it.”
Meanwhile, Jessica previously urged Hollywood to be more “inclusive”.
She shared: “When you think about the industry, you know, encouraging people to stay closeted … not showing stories of women with their own agency and leading their own stories, and also, actually, ignoring many groups, many demographics in our country … for me, that’s not an industry that I actually want to be a part of. I think it’s more than just about gender. It’s about everything in this industry … I want to be a part of an industry that is very inclusive. One that teaches empathy, and the only way you do that is, you learn about someone who doesn’t look like you.”

Sunetra Sarker pays tribute to Keith Barron

OHMYGOSSIP — Sunetra Sarker will “never forget” the laughs she shared with Keith Barron before his sad death.
The 44-year-old actress starred alongside the legendary actor in ‘Casualty’ briefly and was devastated when she found out that he’d lost his battle with a short illness at the impressive age of 83 this week.
Taking to her Twitter account, she said: “So sad to hear of dear friend #KeithBarron passing away. One of a kind. Guaranteed laughter. Shall never forget those days. Old school (sic)”
And she wasn’t his only former co-star to take to the social networking site to pay her respects as his ‘Duty Free’ on-screen with Gwen Taylor admitted the news came as a huge “blow” to her.
She said: “I have just heard the news my old friend and colleague has died. It’s quite a blow.
“Keith was such a kind and lovely man and don’t think I’ve met anyone that would disagree.
“My thoughts and prayers go to his loving wife Mary and his son Jamie – whom meant so much to him.”
Benidorm’s creator Derren Litten – who worked with Keith on the comedy in 2009 – added: “Terribly sad about the passing of dear Keith Barron. He was full of mischief and could make me howl laughing with the merest glance – and he knew it. RIP dear friend. (sic)”
The news that he’d passed away was confirmed by his agent in a statement today (15.11.17).
It read: “He had a long and varied career which included ‘The Nigel Barton Plays’ by Dennis Potter of which he was immensely proud, a Hollywood film ‘The Land That Time Forgot’, the television series ‘Take Me Home’, written by Tony Marchant and three series of ‘Duty Free’, the Yorkshire Television classic sitcom written by Eric Chappell in which he played David Pearce. He is survived by his wife Mary to whom he was married for 58 years and his son, Jamie, also an actor.”
Keith’s best-known role was as David Pearce in ‘Duty Free’, which ran from 1984 until 1986, and his final TV appearance came last year, when he played Arthur Banks in 10 episodes of ‘DCI Banks’.
He also had roles in a string of other TV shows, including ‘Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)’, ‘The New Avengers’, ‘The Professionals’,’A Touch of Frost’, ‘Where the Heart Is’ and ‘Coronation Street’.
