Bill Bailey hoped his TV career would improve after disappointing debut

OHMYGOSSIP — Bill Bailey hoped his career would improve after his underwhelming TV debut.
The 59-year-old comedian, who is known for his role as Manny on the classic sitcom ‘Black Books’, admitted that he was embarrassed that his first TV appearance was on the 1980’s children’s show, ‘Motormouth’, where he had to play the piano for a mind-reading dog.
During an interview with the Daily Star newspaper, he said: “My very first TV appearance was for a show about a mind-reading dog …
“And I just thought, ‘It’s got to be better than this. Things are only going to improve!'”
Despite the disappointing debut, Bill has gone on to have an illustrious TV career, having become a regular panellist on shows like ‘8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown’ and ‘Have I Got News For You’.
However, the TV star has ruled out reality shows like ‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’, because Bill believes he is the “wrong person” for those programmes.
The Daily Star newspaper reported him saying: “I’ve turned down all those survival shows where you’re supposed to be out in the wild and you’re suffering.
“I’d be the wrong person for any of those shows because I love the outdoors and being in off-the-beaten-track places in the tropics.
“I’d love it, but what they really want is people having a meltdown, you know. They’re trying to start and fire and [are] crying, but I’d do that for fun.”
Bill notably won the 2020 series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, and revealed he had agreed to take part in the show in order to “challenge” himself.
He said: “I took ‘Strictly’ on as a huge challenge, and what I realised very quickly – is that while you need to have a lot of physical rigour to practise the choreography so many times and get it into your body – what’s surprised me was the amount of concentration and mental strength you need to be able to pull the routine off on a Saturday night in front of a big TV crowd.”

Da’Vine Joy Randolph included ‘subliminal love letter’ to her grandmother in The Holdovers

OHMYGOSSIP — Da’Vine Joy Randolph wore her grandmother’s glasses in ‘The Holdovers’.
The 37-year-old star won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of grieving mother Mary Lamb in Alexander Payne’s comedy-drama film and explained how she continued a theme of leaving “subliminal love letters” to those who have inspired her through her character’s spectacles.
In an interview with Variety magazine, Da’Vine said: “Every role that I do, I always leave subliminal love letters to women of colour in the details. You can go back and check my resume – every single role, there’s a connection to someone I know personally, someone in history, a fellow actress. And I love it, because those who know, know.
“Ultimately what I’m doing is I’m just implanting moments of connection and honesty. And so her glasses were an artefact for me so that if and when I ever got off track or got derailed or lost the connection, the thought of my grandmother and who she was and what she suffered through, those glasses would put me right back.”
Randolph is proud to be representing black actresses in Hollywood but hopes to “infiltrate” areas where minorities are not traditionally represented in the industry.
The ‘Rustin’ star said: “I don’t just want to do black movies. I will always pay tribute to, honour, uplift and be a part of black storytelling, but I need to infiltrate and get in the spaces where we’re not.
“I want to be in a Wes Anderson movie just ’cause. I want to be in a David O. Russell movie just ’cause. Coen brothers. I’ve never seen us there.
“Because that’s when I think we can really bring about educating and creating real change. If we just stay by ourselves, nothing is going to change.”

TOWIE star James Lock reveals struggles with body dysmorphia

OHMYGOSSIP — James Lock thinks he is getting “carried away” with cosmetic work.
The37-year-old reality star – who has appeared on ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ since 2013 – has had a raft of work done since becoming famous but will always “find fault” in his appearance no matter how much he goes through.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Good Morning Britain’, he said: “I’ve had my eyes done, my nose done, you’re getting carried away. Something that would have taken a couple of hours, a couple of pictures, now takes a full day. Sometimes I’m being irrational. I’m a good looking guy, I’m in good shape, but I will still find fault – whether I’m on set or even if I’m going away on holiday or doing a shoot for a brand, I will find fault.
“I started off with a hair transplant, I’ve had my ears done, my teeth done – that’s a standard thing for everyone at the minute.
“Recently I did another TV show and injured myself a little bit. The injuries were bad, but they weren’t as bad as what I created in my head. So I’ve had my eyes done, my nose done. You’re getting carried away.”
The former ‘Celebrity Ex on the Beach’ star added that one moment he can be “rational” about his whole hangup but then the next he can be at work doing a photoshoot and spend the whole day criticising himself in what he looks like.
He said: “I can sit here and be rational about it but a couple of days ago I’m doing a shoot and what should take half an hour takes a full day because I’m finding fault in everything and I’m comparing myself to my competition.
“Remember, the show’s that I’ve been on, we might be all be friends, but we’re all in competition.”

‘I was just along for the ride’: Sydney Sweeney brushes off Madame Web failure

OHMYGOSSIP — Sydney Sweeney is unconcerned by the failure of ‘Madame Web’.
The 26-year-old actress starred in the superhero flick as Julia Cornwall/Spider-Woman but has brushed off the fact that the movie has bombed with both critics and audiences.
Sydney told the Los Angeles Times newspaper: “I was just hired as an actress in it, so I was just along for the ride for whatever was going to happen.”
Critics savaged the movie when it was released last month and the ‘Anyone but You’ star even poked fun at the film when she hosted ‘Saturday Night Live’ recently.
She quipped: “You definitely didn’t see me in ‘Madame Web’.”
Jimmy Kimmel also had a dig at S.J. Clarkson’s film in his Oscars monologue.
He said: “The people in this room somehow managed to come up with so many excellent films and memorable performances. This night is full of enormous talent, and untold potential, but so was ‘Madame Web’.”
Sydney’s co-star Dakota Johnson – who played the title character in the picture – recently explained that the movie’s failure had put her off from starring in another superhero film.
Dakota told Bustle: “It was definitely an experience for me to make that movie. I had never done anything like it before. I probably will never do anything like it again, because I don’t make sense in that world. And I know that now.
“But sometimes in this industry, you sign on to something, and it’s one thing and then as you’re making it, it becomes a completely different thing, and you’re like, ‘Wait, what?’ But it was a real learning experience, and of course it’s not nice to be a part of something that’s ripped to shreds, but I can’t say that I don’t understand.”

ITV bosses want new This Morning hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shepard to be more relatable

OHMYGOSSIP — ITV bosses want ‘This Morning’s new hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shepard to be more relatable.
The TV stars, aged 47 and 49, took the reins of the daytime show from Josie Gibson, 39, and Alison Hammond, 49, and have hit the ground running, with the programme receiving a 200,000 ratings boost. While ITV bosses are mostly happy with the results, they are reportedly keen to get the pair to be more relatable in an effort for audiences to “warm to them”.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Cat and Ben are both seasoned professionals, but the bosses view relatability as the key to making them really popular.
“They want the audience to warm to them the same way as they warmed to Alison Hammond and Josie Gibson.”
Josie had previously taken over the show after Holly Willoughby’s exit in 2023, and is reportedly “hurt” over being replaced by Cat and Ben.
A TV insider told OK! magazine: “The person who is really gutted that she wasn’t given the role is Josie Gibson – her nose is out of joint. She was touted as the new Holly but wasn’t the case. She’s hurt over the decision.”
Meanwhile, Alison wasn’t too upset to be leaving the programme, and had even been offered a full-time position as a host, though opted to “turn it down” after concluding she “doesn’t what the responsibility”.
The source shared: “Alison was given the ‘This Morning’ job to do it full time; she was actually the one who didn’t want it.”
‘The Great British Bake Off’ star explained that she “never wanted the job” due to her other TV commitments, but insisted that Cat and Ben would “save the show”.
When The Sunday Times Magazine asked Alison if she would consider hosting the show full-time, she said: “Absolutely not. How could I? I live in Birmingham and do ‘Bake Off’ and ‘For the Love of Dogs’.
“I never wanted that job. Last year we did extra because we were going through issues, but Cat and Ben will save that show.”

Danny Dyer sometimes has booze for breakfast as he reveals new weight loss method

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny Dyer loses weight by eating and drinking whatever he wants.
The 46-year-old TV star, who is best known for his role as Mick Carter in ‘EastEnders’, explained that he lost a stone through intermittent fasting, though occasionally started the day with a pint.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I’ve lost about a stone. For eight hours I can eat and drink what I want as long as I fast for 16 hours and drink water too.
“People have come up to me and said it doesn’t work for them and I tell them they must be cheating.
“Ideally, you should break your fast with something healthy. Sometimes for me that has been a pint of Stella, which isn’t ideal, but needs must.”
The actor, who revealed he had started the diet in April 2023, is due to appear in ‘The Great British Bake Off Stand Up To Cancer’ special alongside other guests like Gabby Logan, Fern Brady and Mel B, and insisted he didn’t struggle to stick to his diet because his is “more of a savoury man”.
He previously explained: “I am more of a savoury man to be honest. I don’t mind a bit of chocolate now and then, but I am not really a sweet man. So being in the tent doesn’t really affect my fasting.
“I did break my fast on day one as I needed to eat some breakfast. I am not really a breakfast man, but I needed some energy. Usually I fast until maybe about two or three o’clock in the afternoon. So that’d be my first sort of meal. Sometimes I hang on until dinner time. It does work for me.”
Danny then emphasised he wasn’t nervous to take part in the Channel 4 show, but admitted he struggled in the kitchen because he was “very tired and very hungover”.
He said: “I’m definitely not nervous. I have done some really scary things in my time. So this wasn’t a nerve-wracking thing.
“You always want to give a good account of yourself and hopefully learn a few things on the way. But no, I wasn’t nervous, just very tired, very hungover.
“I am 46 now and got home at half three and up again at half six, so you can imagine baking that showstopper when you are really tired. It’s been a struggle with the old concentration. My brain just needs to rest, but that is the tricky part.”

Bonnie Langford thinks Doctor Who will keep getting ‘more and more fabulous’ with each regeneration

OHMYGOSSIP — Bonnie Langford thinks ‘Doctor Who’ will keep getting “more fabulous” for years to come.
The 58-year-old actress – who shot to fame as a child on ‘Opportunity Knocks’ in the 1970s – first appeared as Melanie Bush in the BBC sci-fi series in the 1980s as the companion to the Sixth and Seventh Doctors played by Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy and is now reprising her role more regularly alongside new Doctor Ncuti Gatwa.
Speaking on ITVs ‘Good Morning Britain’, she said: “I’m so lucky. To be fallen upon by Ncuti Gatwa was lovely, he’s gorgeous. It was fabulous and it’s going to be more fabulous I think. The whole regeneration, by generation, refresh. The whole thing is that it’s very exciting to be part of something like that.”
Meanwhile, the former ‘Dancing on Ice’ contestant – who is also known for her illustrious career in West End theatre – is now gearing up to play real-life Labour campaigner Barbara Castle for a one-night-only concert performance of ‘Made in Dagenham: The Musical’ at the London Palladium on Saturday (16.03.24).
The musical also stars pop star Pixie Lott as Rita O’Grady – a role originated by ‘Quantum of Solace’ actress Gemma Arterton when it first opened on the West End in 2012 – who inadvertently became the spokesperson for a group of female workers at Ford’s Dagenham plant, who go on strike over a fight for equal pay.
Bonnie said: “It’s about saying ‘Let’s just do it!’ The show is hilarious. The music is triumphant, and funny, and clever and witty. It’s about being strong in a world where you’re supposed to be put down all the time.”
The former ‘EastEnders’ actress has a history of playing strong women throughout her career and joked that she hopes to continue doing so because of her “big mortgage.”
She said: “I think it’s good to say that women are feisty and they can do it with charm and joy and humour. Long may I go on, I’ve got a big mortgage!”

Dame Esther Rantzen’s daughter speaks out on assisted dying after support from Sir Keir Starmer

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Esther Rantzen is fighting for new laws around assisted dying so her children don’t have to see her suffer.
The 83-year-old broadcaster – who has Miriam, 46, Rebecca, 44, and 42-year-old Joshua with late husband Desmond Wilcox- was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer last year and launched a petition in January with the Dignity in Dying charity to demand a debate and a free vote by MPs on assisted dying.
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer told Dame Esther that he was “personally committed” to changing the laws surrounding assisted dying ahead of the next election and now her daughter Rebecca has thanked him for his words as she revealed that her mother is so passionate about the cause because of the way in which her children saw their father suffer more than 20 years ago.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, she said: “Mum is extraordinary, I know I’m biased but I can’t imagine being 82 and doing this campaign let alone having Stage 4 lung cancer and everything that goes with that, the stress and the symptoms. I mean, Al Pacino at 83 couldn’t read out 10 movies and mum’s trying to change the law! So I’m very grateful to Sir Keir for making that commitment, I just need it to happen now.
“She knows so clearly that our wonderful father – who was insanely brilliant as a dad and broadcaster himself – that all our memories of him were completely replaced by those final hours. I couldn’t tell you the last time I saw him, but I can describe to you his death, moment by moment but I can’t remember the last time we had a hug or a conversation. And this was the year 2000, so it was a long, long time ago.”
Esther – who presented the BBC’s ‘That’s Life!’ for 21 years – previously revealed she had joined Swiss euthanasia group Dignitas, which claims to offer a dignified death to terminally ill people, as a precautionary measure “if the law does not change in time”.
Assisting someone to die is illegal and prohibited by the Suicide Act 1961 and carries a 14-year jail term.

Finn Wolfhard loves spending time with Ghostbusters icons on set

OHMYGOSSIP — Finn Wolfhard was grateful to spend time with ‘Ghostbusters’ legends on the set of the latest movie.
The 21-year-old actor reprises his role as Trevor Spengler in ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ and embraced the opportunity to work closely with original stars including Dan Aykroyd and Annie Potts.
Asked if he got to spend more time with the original cast members this time around, Finn told The Hollywood Reporter: “Yeah, tons more. We spent so many days together on set, and we hung out a few times outside of set as well. Dan, Annie and everyone are such open books, and you can ask them anything about their lives and their industry stories.
“You can ask Dan about ‘Saturday Night Live’ in 1975, and he just remembers it all off the top of his head. So it’s really surreal to be in a room with these people, but they make you feel equal, which is really nice. There’s no ego or anything. There’s mutual respect.”
Finn explained that it is still difficult to process that he is part of the famous supernatural franchise.
The ‘Stranger Things’ actor said: “I think about this all the time. It’s really weird, and I don’t think I’m going to really process it until I’m 40 and I have kids.
“When we were filming (‘Frozen Empire’), I remember getting into my suit and just looking in the mirror and being like, ‘What the hell?’ Just having my own suit was so surreal. If I were to tell my 12-year-old self all this, he would die. It’s so crazy.
“All I know is that I’m very lucky to be a part of these ensembles of great actors and to be a part of projects that touch so many people and make a lot of people laugh.”

The Fall Guy stunt performer Logan Holladay breaks world record for cannon rolls in a car

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Fall Guy’ stuntman Logan Holladay broke a Guinness World Record for the most cannon rolls in a car during the making of the movie.
The stunt driver was presented with the record by stars Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt at a special screening of David Leitch’s film in Los Angeles on Wednesday (13.03.24) after he achieved “an outstanding eight and a half rolls” during production on the beaches of Australia in 2022.
Holladay’s feat eclipsed the previous benchmark of seven cannon rolls, achieved by stuntman Adam Kirley on the set of the 2006 James Bond film ‘Casino Royale’.
The stunt performer – who has worked on movies including ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ and ‘Nope’ – said in a statement: “When I learned about ‘The Fall Guy’ going into production, I knew I had to be part of it.
“I had a pretty good feeling that I had broken the record because it felt like the spinning was never going to stop. It was a surreal moment and I’m incredibly proud of what the team achieved.”
Leitch’s new movie is loosely based on the 1980s TV series of the same name and he explained that he wanted “to honour his roots as a stunt performer” with the flick.
The 48-year-old filmmaker said: “With ‘The Fall Guy’, I’m honouring my roots as a stunt performer.
“We wanted to deliver action that was true to the spirit of the stunt community by incorporating techniques that have become somewhat of a lost art. The cannon roll is a classic stunt and was a must-have for this film.
“And since we were making a movie that honours the work of stunt performers, we didn’t just set out to achieve the cannon roll; we set out to break records and make a statement. Logan executed it flawlessly and showcased why he’s a standout in the stunt community.”

Louis added: “Does anybody like her, apart from Harry?”
Fern described Meghan as “mysterious” and said: “I want to be able to believe what I see – that pretty face, a mother and loving her husband – but there’s also, perhaps, a feel (of) that manipulation behind all of that.”

Freddie Flintoff taking ‘nervous first steps’ in TV return

OHMYGOSSIP — Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff is taking “nervous first steps” as he makes a return to TV.
The former cricketer, 46, stepped out of the spotlight after suffering broken ribs and facial injuries in a car crash while filming ‘Top Gear’ in 2022 with BBC bosses canning production on the rest of the series in the aftermath of the accident – but now he’s back at work filming his cricket reality show ‘Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams’ and a new report suggests he’s been making good progress.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “He’s healing well and returning to two of his greatest passions – sport and television … Freddie looks to have made huge progress …
“He’s clearly comfortable enough to get in front of a camera again – something which was not the case this time last year. They’re nervous first steps, as he’s recovering both mentally and physically, but the TV show he’s making is a real passion project for him.”
In the first season of ‘Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams’ , the sportsman took a group of young people from his home town of Preston and attempted to turn them into a competitive cricket team.
Plans for season two were announced prior to his ‘Top Gear’ crash and the new episodes will show him taking the lads to India.
Speaking at the time of the show’s announcement, Freddie declared: “Working with the boys was one of the most incredible experiences of my life but the work is not finished yet!”
Freddie was airlifted to hospital after the car accident during filming at the ‘Top Gear’ test track at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey in December 2022 and later took time off to recover from his injuries.
The BBC previously said it would be “inappropriate” to resume filming ‘Top Gear’ after the crash and the show was later shelved “for the foreseeable future”.
Freddie went on to receive a £9 million settlement from the BBC.

Danny DeVito confirms new movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger is on the way

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger are hoping to shoot a movie together next year.
The actors previously starred together in 1986 comedy ‘Twins’ – which follows fraternal brothers who were separated at birth but reunite in Los Angeles – and they are hoping to collaborate on a new project but they are still awaiting a script.
Danny – who teamed up with his pal to present at the Academy Awards last weekend – told Fox News Digital: “He’s like my buddy. We have a good time together.
“You know, we’re trying to do another movie together. We’re in the middle of — there’s a script being written. We want to get back on the big screen together…
“We’re looking forward to getting back up there on the screen. So, fingers crossed, next year we’ll be in production with something. We always have a good time together. He’s a sweet guy.”
The pair had been in talks for a ‘Twins’ sequel before the death of director Ivan Reitman in February 2022 but that’s not what they’re planning to do next.
Danny said: “Ivan, rest his soul, he’s no longer with us. Ivan Reitman, who did ‘Twins,’ who got us together on the screen for the first time.”
The 79-year-old actor befriended the former Governor of California before they made ‘Twins’ and they are still close today.
He said: “[We used to see each other] once in a while, you know, not at the gym, because I don’t go.”
Adding how he now often visits his 76-year-old friend at his farm, he laughed: “I know all the animals. Schnelly the pig. And, you know, the horse bites me when I try to feed him. … We smoke a stogie in the yard. You know, come on, and we have a good time. I love him.
“We talk to each other about food. We love to eat. This is a big thing. And we love ice cream. We love dessert, you know?
“I turn him on to, like, Italian food. And he tells me, ‘Eat less.’”

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Stone’s next collaboration with her ‘Poor Things’ director Yorgos Lanthimos is heading to cinemas this summer.

Stone previously explained their partnership has more to do with personality than performance. She told Variety: “Yorgos feels like a lot of his process of working with people or putting people in his films has to do with who they are as a person. It’s not just performance-based.”
As well as her two new movies with Lanthimos, Stone is also going to be busy working on Ari Aster’s new Western ‘Eddington’ alongside Joaquin Phoenix.
The film also stars Pedro Pascal, Luke Grimes and Austin Butler.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the movie – which is expected to be a Western Noir comedy with Phoenix in the lead role – will follow a small-town sheriff in New Mexico who is dreaming of bigger things in life.

Ekin-Su Culculoglu not looking for love in Celebrity Big Brother house

OHMYGOSSIP — Ekin-Su Cülcüloglu had no intention of looking for love on ‘Celebrity Big Brother’.
The 29-year-old beauty split from boyfriend Davide Sanclimenti just a few weeks before entering the famous abode, but she insisted romance was the last thing on her mind when she signed up for the show and she just wants to make new friends.
In an interview conducted shortly before she went into the house, she told Fabulous magazine: “I’ve just come out of one relationship and I never jump from one to another. That’s definitely not the reason why I’m going into Big Brother!
“I’m excited to get to know everyone on friendly levels – that’s the only love I’m looking for at the minute.
“But I’ll never stop believing in love. I live with love. I give love every day and I will always believe in it. I have faith!”
One thing that appealed about signing up for the show for Ekin-Su was the chance to take a social media break and be away from her phone for a while.
She said: “There are so many reasons why I said yes. It’s such an iconic show and it’s a social experiment, sharing a house with strangers and learning about yourself at the same time.
“I don’t really go into shows with any strategy. I go in with my heart and live in the moment and take every day spontaneously. I’m not there to make fights, although I’m not one to sit back and not say anything if someone is being disrespectful.
“I’m looking forward to being without my phone for a while. I think that will be a peaceful, healing experience for me.
“No internet, no social media, just humans living in the moment, having a laugh, having a cry, having all sorts of emotions running through that house. I can’t wait.”
Although she and Davide won ‘Love Island’ in 2022, Ekin-Su has no desire to return to the show that made her famous.
Discussing the possibility of appearing on ‘Love Island: All Stars’, she said: “I wouldn’t do it. I enjoyed my season. I won the show and Davide and I were great at the time. I have great memories, but I’m not going to relive it again. I’m not going to go back there. I love the show and it’s brought me to where I am now, but that chapter is closed.
“I don’t work backwards. I want to challenge myself with what’s going to interest me next and I always want it to be completely different to what I’ve done before.”
