Frazer Hines blasts Doctor Who for swapping monsters for history lessons

OHMYGOSSIP — Frazer Hines thinks ‘Doctor Who’ needs to ditch history lessons and bring back more monsters.
The 74-year-old actor – who played companion Jamie alongside the second Doctor Patrick Troughton from 1966 to 1969 – has claimed the programme has lost sight of its roots under new showrunner Chris Chibnall, and insisted he’d rather the focus was back on the weird and wonderful villains.
He’s quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column as saying: “I’m old fashioned, I don’t want to know about Rosa Parks, I don’t want to know about whether we’d done this we could have changed history and Kennedy might not have been shot. I like bug-eyed monsters. Monster of the week, I want.”
The most recent series – Jodie Whittaker’s first as the Time Lord – featured a number of episodes focusing on key moments in history, including ‘Rosa’ in October which looked at the moment in 1955 when the political activist refused to give up her seat on the bus to a white person, which was a spark for America’s civil rights movement.
Another episode in November – called ‘Demons of Punjab’ – was set in 1947 during the time of the Indian partition.
Frazer also insisted he would rather the show also moved away from stories told across a single episode, because he’d prefer viewers had more time to process the plot instead of getting an instant resolution.
He added: “I loved it when it was episodic. Now it’s all in one, beginning, middle and an end.
“I liked it when it ended on a Saturday night and then Sunday in the park or on Monday in the school playground you’d be like, ‘What is going to happen? Doctor Who was caught there. Is the monster going to get him?’
“Now it’s all wrapped up too quick. Just call me old-fashioned.”

Andrea McLean says Celebrity SAS helped her face ‘dark times’

OHMYGOSSIP — Andrea McLean says ‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’ helped her face “dark times” from her past.
The ‘Loose Women’ presenter – who has previously opened up about battling anxiety – broke down in tears on the show when she relived a terrifying memory from her past but said the experience encouraged her to “keep going”.
Andrea told The Sun Online: “I’ve been through some quite dark times.
“I had no idea that the baggage I had neatly packed away and not looked at for a long time was actually still there.
“I had to tell myself to keep going.”‘
The 49-year-old TV presenter – who was the oldest on the show – said the main reason she signed up was because she wanted to test her limits, and she was pleasantly surprised to be on a par with some of the younger contestants.
She said: “The whole reason I wanted to sign up to the show was to see what my limits and capabilities were.
“I never thought I’d be as fast and strong as the younger people on there. It was more about seeing where my line in the sand was.”
‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins for Stand Up to Cancer’ 2019 puts 12 stars on gruelling seven-day slog which is led by chief instructor and former soldier Ant Middleton.
This year Made in Chelsea’s Sam Thompson, Love Island’s Camilla Thurlow, Olympian Victoria Pendleton and sportsman Ben Foden are starring in the show.
And Andrea says Ant’s tough love helped her find her inner strength and was a “game changer” because it gave her a new positive outlook.
She said: “After my conversation with Ant I realised that my mantra when it got really tough in there was: ‘Do I like this? No I don’t. Can I do it? Yes I can. So just keep going’.
“That was a game changer for me. In life we normally just carry on with things we like, but actually strength comes from doing things we don’t like that are uncomfortable and everything is telling you to stop.”

AJ Pritchard cast as Peter Pan in first panto show

OHMYGOSSIP — AJ Pritchard will play Peter Pan in his first-ever pantomime.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star is making a move from waltzing across the ballroom floor to soaring above the stage as the boy who doesn’t grow up, and he’s excited to take on the role in a production this Christmas at the Grove Theatre in Dunstable, Bedfordshire.
He said: “Peter Pan has been one of my dream roles since I was a child.
“I’m really looking forward to my first pantomime and can’t wait – not only come to Dunstable but more importantly to fly to Neverland.”
According to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column, the pro dancer will try to strike a balance between his ‘Strictly’ commitments and rehearsals for the stage show.
Last month, the 24-year-old star revealed he would love to be the first pro on the show to be paired with a male celebrity, and he has backed calls for bosses to feature same sex couples.
He recently said: “If they do decide to finally do same-sex partners on ‘Strictly’ this year I 100 per cent want to be the pro to do it…
“If it’s going to be anyone [in a same-sex pairing], I’d like it to be me. I’m 100 per cent the pro to do it. I guess it all depends on who the celebrity contestants are this year.”
AJ insisted gender “doesn’t matter” when it comes to dancing and thinks a same-sex pairing would be “captivating” for viewers.
He added: “So I think we have to wait and see; but if same-sex partnerships do happen it’s going to be so captivating. And I am very open to it.
“People enjoy seeing bodies moving, it doesn’t matter [about gender].”

Louis Tomlinson ‘less likely’ to return to X Factor panel

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Tomlinson says he is “less likely” to return to ‘The X Factor’ judging panel this year because the show may clash with his album work.
Despite admitting he had an “amazing experience” on the talent show last year, in which his act Dalton Harris triumphed, the 27-year-old singer insists his main “mission” for 2019 is to release a solo record and hinted that if recording the programme is “going to get in the way” of his music he may not be back.
Louis said: “He [show boss Simon Cowell] hasn’t called me yet.
“I had an amazing experience on the show last year, but if it’s going to get in the way of my mission for this year, which is releasing the album, then it’s probably going to be less likely.”
While Simon – who was also on the panel last year alongside power couple Robbie Williams and Ayda Field – is yet to have spoken to Louis about a potential return to ‘The X Factor’, the ‘Two of Us’ hitmaker admits he has a “good relationship” with the music mogul.
He said: “I have a really good relationship with Simon. I feel I make him a bit younger, or I try, because he does sometimes throw around the dad jokes a little bit too often.
“So I try to do my bit.”
While Louis was “nervous” about being a judge on ‘The X Factor’ – on which he shot to fame with his band One Direction in 2010 – he soon settled into the experience and built “really great relationships” with the wannabes in his Boys category.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’, he added: “It was such an amazing experience, and I was nervous about doing it at first because I’ve not done anything like that before.
“But I was really happy with my category, I built up really great relationships with each of them individually. It was really, really exciting.
“And getting involved in all the creatives is experience that it’s hard for me to get day to day.”

Topher Grace joins political satire Irresistible

OHMYGOSSIP — Topher Grace has joined political satire ‘Irresistible’.
The 40-year-old actor will reportedly co-star in the upcoming comedy with Jon Stewart at the helm of the satire, which is based on his own original idea, however, the ‘That 70s Show’ star’s character is being kept under wraps.
Steve Carell, Rose Byrne, Chris Cooper and Mackenzie Davis will also star with the ‘Office’ star playing a Democratic political consultant who helps a retired ex-Marine colonel, played by Chris, run for mayor in a small Wisconsin town while the ‘Bridesmaids’ star will portray Steve’s Republican counterpart while Mackenzie will play the daughter of Chris’ character.
The former ‘Daily Show’ host will also produce the project, alongside Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment.
Sources had previously revealed last year that financiers and distributors were yet to come on board, however, Focus Features is now interested in backing the film, and filming could be underway as early as this spring.
Topher recently portrayed white supremacist leader David Duke in Spike Lee’s ‘BlacKkKlansman’ – which followed the first African-American detective to serve in the Colorado Springs Police Department, Ron Stallworth (John David Washington), as he sets out on a dangerous mission to infiltrate and expose white supremacist organisation the Ku Klux Klan.
Steve recently starred alongside Timothee Chalamet in ‘Beautiful Boy’ which followed a Steve’s character as he helped his son through his battle with drug addiction.
Meanwhile, Rose recently starred alongside Mark Wahlberg in new comedy ‘Instant Family’, about a couple who find themselves in over their heads when they foster three children and in 2020 will star in upcoming comedy ‘Limited Partners’ which follows two entrepreneurs who receive a huge buyout offer for the company they built.

Luke Jerdy once saw counsellor to address ‘anger issues’

OHMYGOSSIP — Luke Jerdy once saw a counsellor to “help with previously unaddressed anger issues”.
The ‘Hollyoaks’ actor says undergoing a counselling session was “one of the best things I could have done” because he needed a “neutral ear” to listen to his issues at the time.
Speaking about chatting to his former ‘Hollyoaks’ co-star Jess Ellis about mental health on her ‘Dilemmas’ podcast, he wrote on Instagram: “We had a really interesting chat about our own mental health, our anxieties and our life experiences. My main group of friends certainly fall into the stereotypical Male category: we don’t talk about our feelings much, if at all, and when we do it is very surface level. I’m guilty of not really knowing if any of my mates are actually ok, like properly ok, not just on the outside. I hope this helps a little to encourage lads (and lasses!) to talk to each other more, along with the great work being done by organisations like Ed’s. I have been lucky enough to work as an Actor, where a lot of what we do is emotion-based and I have a lot of open friends who are available to listen. However, I have needed a neutral ear in the past too and have been to a counsellor to help with previously unaddressed anger issues. It was one of the best things I could have done. (sic)”
Luke has also encouraged others to talk by sending him a message if they feel they need to speak to someone.
He wrote: “I would never claim to be an expert, but I can certainly listen and point you in the right direction for help.
Talking helps, it really does. And trust me, there is always someone who will listen to you. Feel free to share your own experiences, your feelings, your thoughts in the comments or send me a DM. I hope this is just the start of the conversation. (sic)”

Ash Palmisciano: Emmerdale’s Matty plot is important for viewers

OHMYGOSSIP — Ash Palmisciano believes it is important for ‘Emmerdale’ viewers to see the “highs, lows and vulnerability” his character Matty Barton is going through to become himself.
The 29-year-old actor’s alter-ego – who was previously known as Moira Dingle’s (Natalie J. Robb) daughter Hannah Barton – is to undergo gender reassignment surgery, and Ash is hopeful the audience will learn a lot about the character from the upcoming scenes.
Ash – who is also transgender – said: “It’s extremely important for the audience to see the highs, the lows and the vulnerability it takes to become yourself.
“I hope they learn about his inner courage, and how he pushes himself to face his fears.”
Since joining ‘Emmerdale’ last year, Ash has relished the opportunity to “create and shape an authentic character”.
He added to Inside Soap magazine: “What’s really exciting as an actor with this character, is that Matty is open to lots of change.
“I wanted to help create and shape an authentic character – someone that everyone can relate to.
“Matty is a son, a barman, a cheeky chap, a deep thinker, a caring friend – and just happens to be transgender, too.”
Ash was initially only going to be an ‘Emmerdale’ adviser for the Matty storyline – but he was asked to audition, and landed the part.
He said: “It is crazy. There’s an amazing charity called All About Trans. They work with just positive representations in the media of trans people.
“They said to me, ‘We’re doing interaction with ‘Emmerdale’, they’re thinking about doing this storyline, they’re looking for some advice on positive reps’.
“They said, ‘Do you want to come?’ I said, ‘Sure, cheeky day out!’ I went along, the next thing they said, ‘Do you want to audition?’ Being an actor, I said, ‘Of course!’ And here I am.
“It was like stepping into my TV. My first day, it was incredible. I was acting with the legend that is Jeff [Hordley], who plays Cain dingle.
“On my first day he had to chuck me over a table. So that was an experience and a half.”

Kevin Feige delighted that Disney rehired James Gunn

OHMYGOSSIP — Kevin Feige says that “all is right with the world” after Disney rehired James Gunn to direct ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’.
The Marvel Studios President confirmed that the latest instalment in the franchise – which was initially going to shoot in 2019 – is delighted that Gunn is back on board but the movie will arrive later than planned after the filmmaker was previously fired when a string of controversial old Twitter posts resurfaced in which Gunn made jokes about paedophilia, homophobia and rape.
But Feige is very happy that everyone has seen sense and got Gunn, 52, back.
Speaking to io9, Feige said: “I won’t say specifically [when Guardians 3 is coming out] but I will say we’re delaying when the film would have originally been. But thankfully [Gunn] is back and he’s doing it and all is right with the world.”
Feige, 45, isn’t the only person who’s pleased about the director’s return as Zoe Saldana – who plays Gamora in the sci-fi series – previously admitted she was “very proud” of Disney executives for bringing Gunn back.
She said: “I was very proud of Disney and all of the executives there. They’re sending a very strong message that, yes, accountability is important. It is a must. We’re not going to surrender that moving forward. But when the opportunity presents itself where it’s just the first step, redemption must be the second step.”
Gunn was rehired last month and took to Twitter to share the news.
He wrote: “I am tremendously grateful to every person out there who has supported me over the past few months. I am always learning and will continue to work at being the best human being I can be. I deeply appreciate Disney’s decision and I am excited to continue making films that investigate the ties of love that bind us all. I have been, and continue to be incredibly humbled by your love and support. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Love to you all.”

The film will be available in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide at Amazon.

Clare Balding hosting Women’s Football World on Channel 4

OHMYGOSSIP — Clare Balding will host Channel 4’s new ‘Women’s Football World’ show.
The journalist and broadcaster is excited to be fronting the upcoming programme, which will feature the best of the action from the top women’s leagues around the world, including England’s WSL and highlights from France, Germany, USA, Italy and the women’s UEFA Champions League.
Clare said: “I’m thrilled that Channel 4 is dedicating a football show solely to the women’s game.
“Having more women’s football on television can only help with awareness of the players, show the scope and quality of the game around the world, win over even more fans and inspire more young girls to become tomorrow’s superstars.”
Each week, Clare will join a professional footballer to get their expert analysis and opinion on the key talking points and issues of the week.
She will also get an insight into the guests’ lives outside the sport, and Channel 4 think the programme can satisfy “a real appetite” for coverage.
Joe Blake-Turner, commissioning editor for sport, added: “We’re delighted to welcome women’s football back to Channel 4. Our coverage of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 was a huge success and there is clearly a real appetite out there for top quality women’s football.”
The show is set to air later this month and will be supplemented by content across All4 and Channel 4’s social and digital platforms.
Presented in partnership with Coca-Cola – and produced by Nimble Productions – ‘Women’s Football World’ will also be shot on location at a different club, stadium or training ground each week.
Andrea Bombrini, senior brand manager at Coca-Cola Great Britain, said: “It’s a really exciting time for women’s football and we’re pleased to partner with Channel 4 to launch Women’s Football World.
“Football has the unique ability to unite people all over the world and Coca-Cola has a long and rich history supporting football at all levels, from the grassroots to the world stage.
“We hope that the new show shines a light on some of the amazing talent in women’s football and brings fans even closer to the game.”

Gemma Collins ‘not joining’ The Real Housewives of Cheshire

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Collins will “not be joining” the cast of ‘The Real Housewives of Cheshire’.
The 38-year-old reality star swapped Essex for an appearance on the all-female series when she was spotted filming scenes for her cameo in the ITVBe show last month and while regular Dawn Ward praised the ‘TOWIE’ star, she insisted her pal won’t be a permanent fixture because it would be a very “different” programme.
Speaking on Thursday’s episode of ‘This Morning’ (11.04.19), Dawn said: “No she’s not joining ‘The Real Housewives of Cheshire’, it’d be a much different show, but she has done a cameo role. I see a lot of Gemma as she’s a friend of mine, and it’s a reality show so it was really good fun.”
The 45-year-old star – who has been on the series since it hit TV screens in 2015 – is known as ‘The Manipulator’ onscreen, and she admitted that the title actually “annoys” her because it couldn’t be further from her character.
She added: “No. It annoys me just because I’ve got a strong personality which I’m sure everybody knows, and I always feel that I’m a fair person. I don’t try and turn people against other people as I’ve often been accused of, I always think that in life, everyone should make their own decisions.”
And the blonde beauty insisted that the show is very real and often squabbles between the group are “a lot worse” than what viewers see on TV.
She added: “We get asked this all the time, unfortunately, it’s not scripted and it’s a lot worse than what you see.”
‘The Real Housewives of Cheshire’ will return on Monday (15.04.19) at 10pm on ITVBe.

Emmerdale’s Shila Iqbal sacked over historic racist tweets

OHMYGOSSIP — Shila Iqbal has been sacked from ‘Emmerdale’ over past racist tweets posted in 2014.
The 24-year-old soap star – who was 19 at the time she wrote the historic messages on the social networking site – has been cut from her role as Aiesha Richards after the posts re-emerged this week.
A representative for the show told The Sun Online: “As a consequence of historic social media posts Shila Iqbal has left her role as Aiesha Richards on Emmerdale.
“The programme took the decision not to renew her contract as soon as these posts were brought to the company’s attention.”
Shila’s Twitter account has been deleted since it was revealed she has left the soap.
As reported by the MailOnline, the actress shared an apology soon after the tweets and her sacking emerged.
She said: “I am terribly sorry and take full responsibility for my use of such inappropriate language… I have paid the price and can no longer continue the job I loved the most at Emmerdale. “Although I was young when I made the Tweets, it was still completely wrong of me to do so and I sincerely apologise…
“The only consideration I would ask is that I have recently received hateful tweets telling me that as a Muslim my Emmerdale role means that I am ‘committing sinful acts, promoting sin and deliberately going against the Quran’…
“I regret that I too have let people down by the use of such language, albeit six years ago. I, like everyone else, have a responsibility about the language I have used on social media as well as in conversation.”
The incident comes just a few weeks after Shila was made a permanent member of the ITV soap’s cast.
She said at the time: “I am over the moon to be back at Emmerdale as a regular. My family love Emmerdale and to be appearing in a show that you’ve grown up watching just feels like a dream…
“Aiesha very much represents the new generation of social media fascination and her phone is her third hand. She is always camera ready! She speaks her mind, although it comes from a ditzy but good place for sure.”

Scarlett Johansson says keeping Avengers secrets was ‘traumatising’

OHMYGOSSIP — Scarlett Johansson admits keeping the plot of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ secret was “traumatising”.
The 34-year-old actress – who plays Natalia Romanova aka Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – readily admits it was “stressful” to not slip up and spill any spoilers about the highly-anticipated blockbuster.
Speaking to talkRADIO at a London fan event for ‘Avengers: Endgame’ on Wednesday night (10.04.19), she said: “I am so excited to not have to keep these secrets anymore like I’m stressed out about it like it’s traumatising.
“I literally will go home and lie awake at night and be like ‘Am I good? Did I say anything? No we’re good?'”
Chris Hemsworth – who plays Thor in the franchise – went on to explain that although cast members are only given parts of their scripts, they are able to read the full movie with “lots of security” around, however, he opted not to as he “feels like a fan” and wanted to watch the movie “come together”.
He said: “We only read out individual pieces of script – we could go and read the entire script if we wanted in a room with lots of security around and stuff. But I feel like a fan of the franchise … so if you get to go to one of the premieres you see it all come together.”
Scarlett stunned on the red carpet at the event wearing a Tom Ford silk satin jacket featuring a asymmetrical cut out and plunging cut-out neckline paired with chic tuxedo trousers.
‘Ant-Man’ star Paul Rudd, also attended the event alongside the movie’s directors Anthony and Joe Russo.

Andrew Scott says Fleabag is not just a feminist show

OHMYGOSSIP — Andrew Scott says ‘Fleabag’ is not just a feminist story.
The 42-year-old actor portrayed the unnamed priest in the second series of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s comedy-drama and insisted the show – which is often hailed for its strong feminist stance – is actually also focused on pointing out the flaws in humanity.
Speaking on ‘The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show’, Andrew said: “It’s sort of been hailed as this great feminist story which of course it is.
“But it’s actually, for my money, all about human life and the fact that we are all a bit flawed and a bit messed up sometimes. We are all looking for love in different places right and wrong!”
The ‘Steel Country’ actor recalled of how he first met with Phoebe to discuss her plans for the show, and he was on-board immediately.
He added: “She called me last summer to talk about ‘Fleabag’ but there wasn’t any script at that stage.
“And we had this fantastic first meeting where we talked about love and life and loss and religion and what place religion takes in our lives.
“At the end of the meeting, I hadn’t read any scripts or anything but I was like ‘Yes! I’m on-board for this!”
The hit BBC show – which also stars the likes of Olivia Colman, Hugh Skinner, Sian Clifford and Jenny Rainsford – tells the story how Phoebe’s titular character is struggling to live her life in London following a tragedy.
The handsome hunk also revealed that his mum and dad – Nora and Jim – love the show, and he thinks ‘Fleabag’ appeals to all generations because it has a lot of merit while still being very funny.
He explained: “My parents watched and it appeals to so many people I think because you can disguise a lot of humanity when something is really funny.”

Chris Evans backs Alfonso Ribeiro to replace Darcey Bussell as Strictly judge

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Evans has backed Alfonso Ribeiro to replace Dame Darcey Bussell as the new judge on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The ‘Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ star was a huge hit with fans after covering for Bruno Tonioli last year, and although Chris, 53, coudn’t remember the 47-year-old actor’s name, he thinks he would be a great choice for the BBC’s ballroom competition.
Speaking on his Virgin Radio Breakfast show he said: “The guy who filled in last year, didn’t he win it over in the States, who is that guy?
“He’s gotta be in (the running) he’s done the job. He filled in for Bruno Tonioli. I can’t remember his name.”
Chris added that professional dancer Oti Mabuse would be a “good bet” and thought 2005 Strictly winner Darren Gough was his “hot tip”.
His comments come after Darcey – who became a full-time judge on the show’s 10th series in 2012 – revealed she was stepping away from her spot on the panel.
However, the dancer added that she’s enjoyed “every minute” of her time on the show and insisted she’s not leaving because of “of any upset or disagreement”.
She said in a statement: “It has been a complete privilege for me to be part of ‘Strictly’, working with such a talented team.
“I have enjoyed every minute of my time and will miss everyone from my fellow judges, the presenters, the dancers, the musicians, the entire back stage team, and especially the viewers of the show, who have been so supportive.
“I am not leaving because of any upset or disagreement at all, I am just stepping away to give more focus to my many other commitments in dance, after seven truly wonderful years that I can’t imagine having gone any better.”

Annabelle Comes Home set was blessed after Mckenna Grace’s ‘creepy’ nose bleeds

OHMYGOSSIP — The set of ‘Annabelle Comes Home’ had to be blessed after Mckenna Grace’s nose started spontaneously “pouring with blood”.
The 12-year-old actress plays the daughter of paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) who becomes the main target of the possessed toy along with her two babysitters, and the young star recalled a “creepy” incident in which her nose wouldn’t stop bleeding while she was on set.
In an interview with Collider, she said: “I’ve done about three scared scenes so far, and I haven’t been too scared in those, but I do have a scary story.
“On one of the first days, I came and looked at the house that they built, on set. We were doing our rehearsal and my nose was pouring blood, all of a sudden.
“The lights were off because they had to re-set something, and I was like, ‘There’s blood!’ And then, as soon as I stepped outside to go to the restroom to get a tissue, it stopped. It was creepy. But then we had the set blessing, so everything is good now.”
The ‘Captain Marvel’ star went on to say that although she can’t say too much about her character in the film – which follows two other ‘Annabelle’ films from the Conjuring Universe – her alter-ego is “very kind” and knows “a lot about paranormal stuff”.
She explained: “She’s very kind. She knows a lot about paranormal stuff because she’s Ed and Lorraine’s daughter, which is pretty cool.
“There’s not too much I can tell you about her, except the obvious that she’s the Warrens’ daughter. I can’t really spoil anything. It’s a mystery.”
