Jake Wood thanks Barbara Windsor for help during early EastEnders days

OHMYGOSSIP — Jake Wood is grateful to Dame Barbara Windsor for taking him under her wing ahead of his “daunting” ‘EastEnders’ debut.
The soap star joined the BBC One show over a decade ago, and he has admitted his legendary co-star – who is living with dementia after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2014 – gave him “lots of advice” to make his early days on set as relaxed as possible.
He said: “I remember when I started on ‘EastEnders’ 12 years ago Barbara really took me under her wing. It’s very daunting starting on a show like ‘EastEnders’.
“It’s part of British life so as an actor you’re quite nervous coming in. I’ll always remember Barbara sort of giving me lots of advice and just making sure I was comfortable really. So she’s always been a really good friend to me.”
Jake will join the likes of Adam Woodyatt, Natalie Cassidy and Barbara’s husband Scott Mitchell to run the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon on April 28 as team Barbara’s Revolutionaries.
They are taking on the challenge in aid of the Dementia Revolution campaign from Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Speaking on the group’s official Twitter account, he added: “It’s been very tough the last couple of years for them [Barbara and Scott], and spending time with them you sort of see the effects that Barbara’s dementia has had, not only on Barbara but also on Scott. I just wanted to something really as a result of seeing what they’re going through.”
He also praised the actress as a “legend” across the country, and said her popularity extends well beyond Albert Square.
He said: “Barbara is such a well-loved figure in this country isn’t she? Not just by all of us at ‘EastEnders’ but by the whole nation. She’s a legend.”

Sophie Gradon inquest reveals star took her own life

OHMYGOSSIP — Sophie Gradon took her own life by hanging after taking alcohol and cocaine, an inquest has ruled.
The ‘Love Island’ star was tragically found dead aged 32 at her parents’ home in June 2018, and coroner Eric Armstrong – sitting in North Shields, North Tyneside – said that a combination of drink and drugs made people more likely to harm themselves, and confirmed Sophie died by suicide.
The same coroner had issued a similar warning last summer when Sophie boyfriend Aaron Armstrong was found dead just days after she was laid to rest.
He said at the time: “His thinking was muddled by the distress of Sophie’s death, the distress at having found her, with his brother.
“The consequence of taking alcohol and cocaine together prevented him from thinking rationally about his actions.”
At the time of Sophie’s death, police confirmed there were no “suspicious circumstances surrounding her death”.
The former Miss Great Britain model won a legion of fans in 2016 when she entered the ‘Love Island’ villa and found love with Thomas Powell.
But later on in the series, she moved on to Katie Salmon and they became the first bisexual couple on the show.
Her co-star Olivia Buckland paid tribute to her at the time of death writing on Twitter: “Awful awful news this morning. I am gutted. I am so sorry the world failed you. You were such an intricate, creative, intelligent soul. Words fail me.”
The show’s host Caroline Flack tweeted: “So very sad. Such a beautiful soul, such a beautiful smile.”
And Cara De La Hoyde – who won the series with Nathan Massey – added: “Such a awful day my heart is broken & goes out to the very one effected (sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — Timothy Olyphant bonded with Luke Perry while filming ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’.
The pair met for the first time when they were cast as James Stacy and Wayne Maunder in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino film and the 50-year-old actor thinks his late pal – who died after suffering a stroke aged 52 last month – will be much missed at the movie’s upcoming premiere.
Speaking to Variety, he said: “What a lovely guy. Just a lovely guy. I’m going to miss him at that premiere. I’m going to miss him. I’m going to miss him anyway.”
“We just met on the film, but the two of us showed up, and we kept looking at each other like, ‘How’d we get in? I don’t know who let us in, but they let us in.”
“There were so many moments where it just felt like the two of us would look at each other and we both had the same look on our face, which is, ‘Not bad. Here we are.'”
Timothy went on to praise the ‘Riverdale’ star as “the best kind of actor” and a true “craftsman”.
He said: “I haven’t met anyone who’s ever said a bad thing about the guy, and that was my experience hanging out with him and working with him. He was the best kind of actor. He was a craftsman.”
The ‘Santa Clarita Diet’ star added that Luke – who had 18-year-old Sophie and 21-year-old Jack with ex-wife Rachel Sharp – was a family man who was “all about the work”.
He said: “He was all about the work. No bulls**t. He showed up early and did his work, and we spent most of our time talking about our families and just enjoying the job. Just a lovely guy.”

Tessa Thompson says Thor: Ragnarok sequel has been pitched

OHMYGOSSIP — Tessa Thompson says Marvel are considering another ‘Thor’ sequel with Taika Waititi returning as director.
The 35-year-old actress – who plays Valkyrie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films opposite Chris Hemsworth as the titular character – confirmed a pitch for a follow-up to the latest edition of the superhero’s standalone story, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, has been submitted and she believes the 43-year-old filmmaker has been asked to helm the project.
Speaking to the LA Times, she said: “I don’t know how real that intel is, but I hear that the pitch has happened, I think the idea is Taika would come back.”
‘Thor: Ragnarok’- which saw Taika voice fan favourite character Korg – followed the film’s hero fighting his way out of deadly gladiatorial contest that pit him against his former ally and fellow Avenger the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) , after being imprisoned on the other side of the universe.
Thor’s quest for survival led him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilisation.
The latest edition to the MCU is the upcoming ‘Avengers: Endgame’, which is set for release on 25 April and will end phase three of the universe – wrapping up 11 franchises and 22 films.
The film’s directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, previously teased that the ensemble movie would be the “conclusion of the grandest experiment in movie history”.
Joe said: “We knew it was gonna be probably the conclusion of the grandest experiment in movie history which is the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“There’s people all over the world who are so connected to these characters and they’ve spent so much of their time and their thought and their energy you know going on this journey for 11 years.
“It felt like a really, really unique opportunity as a storyteller to tell a story wrapping up you know 11 different franchises.”

M. Night Shyamalan cried over bad Glass reviews

OHMYGOSSIP — M. Night Shyamalan cried when he heard ‘Glass’ had poor reviews.
The 48-year-old filmmaker admitted that upon learning his superhero movie – which is a sequel to ‘Unbreakable’ and ‘Split’ and is the final chapter in his ‘Eastrail 177’ trilogy – was taking a critical beating back in January, he couldn’t help but break down, despite preparing to make a television appearance.
Speaking at NYU’s Stern School of Business, where he delivered the 2019 Ashok C. Sani Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence lecture, he said: “I was in London when I heard the US reviews for ‘Glass’ were poor, I was in a make-up chair for a TV show, and I cried.
But the ‘Sixth Sense’ director went on to explain that the first reaction to the film – which ended up making nearly $247 million worldwide – were overwhelmingly positive and meant he was even more upset when he received his negative feedback because he wasn’t “prepared” for it.
He continued: “We’d just come back from the London screenings, which were through the roof. We had only great screenings of the movie around the world. So essentially I wasn’t prepared.
“I had this false sense of being a part of the group in a safe way. But boy, did I feel distraught that day.”
Shyamalan added that although the film’s poor reception made him feel “worthless” the film’s eventual box office success restored his faith in his own “beliefs”.
He said: “Honestly, I was feeling like, ‘Will they never let me be different without throwing me on the garbage pile?’
“The feeling of worthlessness rushed me, and to be honest, it doesn’t ever really leave. But anyway, the film went on, right? It became number one in every country in the world, and it represents my beliefs.”

Megan Barton Hanson’s mum cried when she saw her face after allergic reaction

OHMYGOSSIP — Megan Barton Hanson says her mum cried when she saw her face after an allergic reaction.
The former ‘Love Island’ star went to hospital last weekend after her face and body swelled up when she used a box dye kit, and her mother burst into tears when she saw how puffy she looked.
Megan appeared on ‘This Morning’ on Thursday (18.04.19) and said: “So I called my mum. And I was like, ‘what do I do?’
“I can’t just walk in A&E, if people see me this will be everywhere. And we all know how much trolling I’ve had from my before and after surgery pictures.
“I thought this is all I need now me with a massive moon head! I sent my mum a photo. Over the phone she was fine.
“She got the train down and met at the doctors. She walked in and burst out crying! I was like ‘Oh My God, it is bad!'”
The 25-year-old blonde beauty then revealed that her mum was so concerned she called an ambulance and they went to the hospital together.
Megan wanted to touch up her roots because she was getting ready for the Coachella musical festival.
However, a few hours after she used the hair dye, she had a sore throat and went to bed early because she thought she must have just been a bit ill and run down.
She was shocked when she woke up at midnight and found her face had become swollen and then a few hours later, she awoke again to find she could barely even open her eyes.
She recalled: “I got an early night. Woke up at 12, my hands were really chubby my face was really swollen and tight and then I woke up about at five and literally, I could barely open my eyes. It was so bad!”

Russell T Davies rules out Doctor Who return

OHMYGOSSIP — Russell T Davies says a ‘Doctor Who’ return would be a step backwards.
It has been over 14 years since the 55-year-old screenwriter was first at the helm of the BBC science fiction favourite – where he spent five years as showrunner – and he has insisted he has no plans to make a comeback because he’d rather look ahead in his career.
Speaking to the RadioTimes.com, he explained: “It’ll be like coming back to a job I did 10 years ago, wouldn’t it? Who would do that?”
It echoes the sentiment he has voiced in the past, when he penned the novelisation of the ‘Rose’ episode.
He said at the time: “Really, think about it. Go back to the job you had 13 years ago. Or go back to your old school. Walk in, say hello, take your old seat. And start giving instructions! Watch everyone’s faces. Shortly before they call the police.
“Move on! And besides. Why look back? The future is golden.”
Now, Davies is focused on his upcoming new show ‘Years and Years’, which is set in the future and moves forward “another year more or less” with each episode.
He added: “It jumps five years ahead in the first episode and then every week it goes forward another year more or less. But in the end, it will be set 15 years in the future.”
Emma Thompson has been cast as Prime Minister Vivienne Rook – described as a mix between the former Mayor of London Boris Johnson and leader of the Brexit Party Nigel Farage – in the show, and Davies recently revealed he’s delighted to have her on board.
He said: “Emma Thompson, you don’t just see her on television, and to cast her was a dream come true.”

Denise Welch doesn’t recognise who she was before she quit booze

OHMYGOSSIP — Denise Welch barely recognises who she was before she quit drinking.
On Thursday (18.04.19), the 60-year-old presenter marked seven years since she gave up alcohol and she took to social media to reveal how her sobriety has saved her life.
In a candid post, she tweeted alongside a heart emoji: “Today marks 7 yrs since I had my last drink. I hardly recognise the woman I was but I feel for her. Giving up saved my life”
She received some words of encouragement from former ‘Geordie Shore’ star Charlotte Crosby, who heaped praise on the ‘Loose Women’ presenter for her achievement.
She wrote: “Good on you Denise… bloody amazing women (sic)”
Last year, Denise revealed she made the decision to stop drinking after being shown a video of her actions by husband Lincoln Townley, who made her realise she needed to address her problems.
She said: “I’d smashed the flat up, and he picked me up from the theatre that night, spoke to me all the way, told me that he loved me…
“I had complete blackouts. Door was off its hinges, I’d smashed the lamp. I had no recollection.”
Denise decided not to drink again after that night, when Lincoln – who had previously given up booze when the couple had a row over their problems – admitted he loved her but wasn’t sure it could work out.
She added: “This man was the love of my life, and I gave up that night and I’ve never touched a drop since. I am proud of myself, I’m proud of us both.”

Jack Fincham forced to lose weight after being told he was ‘obese’ by doctors

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack Fincham has been forced to lose weight after being told he was “obese” by doctors.
The 26-year-old revealed he let himself go since leaving ‘Love Island’ – which he won with ex-girlfriend Dani Dyer last summer – and knew he had to make changes when discovered his BMI was unhealthily high.
Jack told The Sun: “I really needed help with my training as well as my diet, because since leaving ‘Love Island’ last year I wasn’t really looking after myself properly, mostly Beef Space Raiders are to blame.
“My original BMI results revealed that I was technically obese – which was a complete shock.”
The hunk made a turn around by swapping junk food for a healthier diet of “chicken and vegetables with brown rice” and drinking almond milk.
He said: “I’ve really tried my best to cut down on things like snacking and eating junk food, they are the biggest enemies. I’ve cut out fatty, fried foods and eat a lot of protein like chicken and vegetables with brown rice.
“And I’ve swapped a lot of dairy for healthier options like with my shakes I’ll grab almond milk instead of regular milk.”
The heartthrob also has been getting back into his fitness routine by waking up early to complete a mix of cardio and weight training.
Jack revealed he has been burning calories by working up a sweat in the boxing ring – which was a huge passion of his as a teenager.
He said: “I always loved boxing and used to be really into it when I was in my teens. My first fight was when I was 14 and grew a real passion for the sport.
“When I wanted to get fit again, after ‘Love Island’, boxing was my first thought for exercise. It’s an incredible work-out. You will never sweat like you sweat when you’re boxing.”

Jennifer Saunders wants gender fluid Ab Fab musical

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Saunders wants to create a new gender fluid ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ musical.
The 60-year-old actress played PR agent Edina Monsoon alongside Joanna Lumley – who played magazine fashion director Patsy Stone – in the hit series, and now she wants to write a stage production where the two leading ladies could be replaced by men.
Jennifer is quoted by The Daily Star newspaper as saying: “I’d quite like to write something along that vein that anybody could then play it, so you could have whatever sex or gender as Edina and Patsy.”
The comedienne is also planning a cartoon prequel to the hit show, which she has described as “a sort of ‘St Trinian’s’.”
The popular programme launched on the BBC in 1992 and originally ended in 2004, but returned for an Olympic special in 2012 and on the big screen with ‘Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie’ three years later.
Joanna recently revealed Jennifer originally wanted to end the show by killing off both of their characters, but the 72-year-old actress thought it would be a travesty to get rid of Patsy and Edina forever.
She recalled: “Jennifer said, ‘Shall we just kill them off and bury them?’ – I never fired off an email so quick in my life.
“I said, ‘No, we promised the world we will never die. We can’t die, Patsy and Eddie – we can’t die.”
The ‘Marple’ actress loved portraying the glamorous fashion director and adored her because she had both masculine and feminine traits.
She said: “I really love Patsy. She’s like the Road Runner, like Wile E Coyote.
“Whenever she’s smacked down or everything had gone wrong she’d spring up again with a nice hairdo and Betty Jackson clothes. I adored her. She is gender fluid.”

Oti Mabuse rules out replacing Darcey Bussell on Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Oti Mabuse has ruled herself out of replacing Darcey Bussell on ‘Strictly Come Dancing.’
The 28-year-old professional dancer will not be taking over from the 49-year-old retired ballerina – who has quit the BBC One Latin show and ballroom after judging for seven series – because she does not want to give up being a performer on the programme.
When she was quizzed on ‘The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show’ about the speculation, Oti said: “No, no. no”.
Host Zoe said: “You see now the thing is, you would be brilliant at it, but the only thing is it would mean that we wouldn’t get you on the dance floor.”
To which ‘The Greatest Dancer’ captain replied: “Yeah, Yeah. I think the ‘Strictly’ audience is just like, ‘No, we’re not ready to let her go.’
“But you know I love dancing. I love coming to the rehearsals. I love being a part of the group, it’s a really special group to be a part of.
“There are no dancers like ‘Strictly’ dancers, how close we are.
“I think I would absolutely miss that and that part of it.”
Darcey recently insisted she isn’t departing the programme due to “any upset or disagreement” and simply wants to focus on her “many other commitments in dance”.
And the former show panellist – who became a full-time judge on the show’s 10th series in 2012 – recently gushed she felt it had been “a complete privilege” for her to have been part of the ‘Strictly’ team.
Shirley Ballas joined the ‘Strictly’ panel, taking over from former head judge Len Goodman, in September 2017.
Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood, who have been on the show since the first series in 2004, complete the current judging panel.

Jack Whitehall lost bar job over c-bomb

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack Whitehall got fired from a bar job after he called a customer a “****”.
The 30-year-old comedian surprised after-work drinkers at London pub The Wigmore this week when he turned up with Grey Goose Vodka and delivered an impromptu stand-up show during which he revealed the hilarious anecdote.
He said: “I did once work behind a bar, but I got fired because someone clicked their fingers at me, and I called them the c-word.
“Let’s hope that doesn’t happen again, it might put a bit of a dampener on the evening. We’re here to Live Victoriously and have a wonderful, spontaneous, exciting night and I am well down for that.”
To launch the new Grey Goose brand platform ‘Live Victoriously’, Jack and Clara Amfo turned an average Tuesday night (16.04.19) after-work drinks into an unforgettable memory, with the surprise performances.
The radio DJ treated the unsuspecting crowd – who also enjoyed a selection of cocktails at the event – to a set of her own.
The vodka brand also took over New York City with Jamie Foxx, ‘Shrill’ star Aidy Bryant and ‘Saturday Night Live’ comic Colin Jost all treating punters to surprise comedy performances.
Jack’s own routine comes after he recently revealed how he “absolutely died” on stage in front of Prince Charles during a show in honour of the 70-year-old royal’s annual staff Christmas party.
The ‘Fresh Meat’ actor previously explained: “I walk out, first thing that’s weird is that they’re sat in the front row, Charles and Camilla, in thrones… Also, don’t sit in the front row because that’s your get-out-of-jail-free card as a comic, [you pick on the front row], you ask them what they do for a living… I can’t ask Prince Charles what he does for a living!
“[It was a] small room, maybe 40 people, all of my material was terrible… I absolutely died.”

Stephanie Beatriz joins In The Heights musical adaptation

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephanie Beatriz has joined the big-screen adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical ‘In The Heights’.
The ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ actress – who plays Detective Rosa Diaz in the hit sitcom – will join the musical adaptation alongside ‘Sex and the City’ star Daphne Rubin-Vega and Dascha Polanco of ‘Orange Is The New Black’.
The film is set over the course of three days, involving various characters in the largely Hispanic-American neighbourhood of Washington Heights in New York City.
Jon M. Chu will helm the project and Marc Klein will adapt the screenplay from Quiara Alegría Hudes musical book.
Daphne, 49, will play the outrageously dramatic owner of the salon where the neighbourhood girls come to gossip while Stephanie, 38, will play an employee of Daniela’s salon along with her best friend Vanessa (Melissa Barrera) the latter being the love interest of main character Usnavi (Anthony Ramos).
Dascha will play Cuca, a new character dreamed up by Lin-Manuel while Olga Merediz – who plays Rosa’s mother on ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ – has been cast as Abuela Claudia.
Lin-Manuel, 39, previously revealed that it’s not just ‘In The Heights’ that will be adapted for the big-screen and insisted that there “will be” a film version of his smash hit musical ‘Hamilton’ “at some point”.
The ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ star created the sold-out West End musical and shared that he will release an adaptation for the big screen because he wants “as many people to see it as possible”.
He said: “At some point I think there will be a film.
“I think that I spent seven years making that as a piece of theatre, so I want as many people to see it in that form as possible – and then we will start talking about the movie. It’s a tricky leap from stage to film, so we’ll see who figures it out.”

Janet Street-Porter had only watched Neighbours a few times before cameo

OHMYGOSSIP — Janet Street-Porter had only watched ‘Neighbours’ “a couple of times” before making a cameo on the show.
The 72-year-old TV presenter will make her debut on the Channel 5 soap later today (17.04.19), and admitted her acting stint on the Australian show was a “steep learning curve”.
When asked on ‘Loose Women’ – on which she is a panellist – if she is a fan of the programme, she said: “‘Neighbours’ … I’ve watched it a couple of times before.
“It was a bit of a steep learning curve.”
The journalist was also delighted to be reunited with Colette Mann – who plays Sheila Canning on the show – on set because she had worked with her before on Australian TV, but admitted she forgot the actress’ name.
She said: “The actress who plays Sheila …
“People don’t know here that I worked in Australia in the 1980s.
“I hosted a daily TV show at seven o’clock every evening on one of the main channels, Channel 9.
“And the actress whose bag I nicked then, worked with me, so when I went on the set she went ‘Wow, I haven’t seen you in a few years!’
“And I kept thinking: ‘What’s her name? What’s her name?’ ”
Before shooting her scenes, Janet was given a tour of the Erinsborough set by actor Stefan Dennis, whose character Paul Robinson has had five wives and eight weddings.
And the red-haired presenter – who has been married four times – thinks his character has trumped her by having even more nuptials than her.
When interviewing Stefan, she said: “I’ve been married four times and everyone makes a meal out of that! But your character, you’ve left me well behind.”
Janet will be seen on Wednesday’s episode of ‘Neighbours’, which airs at 5.30pm on Channel 5.

Will Smith thinks Aladdin Genie memes are ‘very funny’

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Smith thinks memes about the Genie in ‘Aladdin’ are “very funny”.
The 50-year-old actor has assumed the role of the lamp-dweller in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming live-action film and the first look at the character arrived in a teaser trailer in February, causing the internet to respond with a slew of funny posts about Will’s blue alter-ego.
However, the Hollywood star admitted that he wasn’t offended by the memes and although he’s still trying to “get a handle on” internet culture, he enjoyed the comedic posts.
In an interview with Empire, he said: “It was very funny. There was a Sonic The Hedgehog / Genie frog.
“Everything is under such critical scrutiny. I came up in an era where there was no internet. It’s a new thing that I’m trying to get a handle on.”
Guy, 50, went on to explain that when another trailer was released with improved shots of the Genie, he was satisfied fans were back on board with the character.
He said: “It even came with apologies from the cynics who were so adamant initially; I’ve never seen apologies in that world. I thought, ‘Oh well, great, we’re back to where I’d hoped we’d be.’ ”
Will previously confessed that he was “terrified” about taking on the role previously held by the late Robin Williams – whose performance in the 1992 animated version of ‘Aladdin’ was widely hailed by fans – but the star is hopeful he’s found a way to “pay homage” to the legendary actor, who took his own life in 2014.
He said: “I was terrified doing the Genie after Robin Williams. But I found a lane that pays homage. It is my own thing, you know? So, I think people are going to love it.”
