Ryan Russell to remain on Coronation Street despite ‘offensive’ posts

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ newcomer Ryan Russell will not be axed from the soap, despite admitting to posting past “offensive” tweets.
The former CBeebies presenter – who has joined the soap as Michael Bailey, who will be first seen on screen this summer – will continue on the programme after he gave show bosses “assurances about his conduct, values and behaviour”.
A spokesperson for ‘Coronation Street’ told Digital Spy: “Ryan Russell has apologised for the social media posts recently brought to ITV’s attention which he admits he posted between 2011 and 2013 when at university.
“The tweets in question are no longer in the public domain and were deleted by Ryan in 2013 shortly after they had been published because he realised they were offensive and regretted that he had posted in this way.
“He has spoken with producers today and given them assurances about his conduct, values and behaviour going forward.”
Rylan recently admitted he was “truly sorry” for sharing the messages, and feels “embarrassed” by some of the posts.
He said in a statement: “First and foremost, I want to take ownership for my behaviour and apologise for some of the language that I’ve previously used on social media.
“I’m embarrassed by some of my previous social media posts but hope to be able to use my platform to educate, inspire and engage others. As with anything in life, I believe that it’s about self-reflection, education and growth.
“I’m truly sorry and believe that the tweets are not an accurate representation of the person that I am, or aspire to be.”
This comes just weeks after ‘Emmerdale’ star Shila Iqbal was axed from the soap over past tweets.
Earlier this month, a representative for ‘Emmerdale’ said: “As a consequence of historic social media posts Shila Iqbal has left her role as Aiesha Richards on ‘Emmerdale’.
“The programme took the decision not to renew her contract as soon as these posts were brought to the company’s attention.”
But yesterday (23.04.19), Shila questioned whether it was “fair” to give her the boot, insisting she should’ve been judged on “the person you are today”.
Asked on ‘This Morning’ if she had been treated “fairly”, she said: “It’s a tricky one. I think ITV have a moral obligation to do what’s right by the public and I respect their decision … but I do question, ‘Is it fair that I’ve been judged on something I did as a teenager?’
“If we do look at the context and the intentions, there was no negative intention behind there. I wasn’t hurling abuse at anyone. I made a mistake, and that is not who I am.
“I think if the person has changed and shown remorse, and attitudes have changed, then no you shouldn’t be judged on that.
“You should be judged on the person you are today.”

Ian McShane wants Lovejoy return

OHMYGOSSIP — Ian McShane wants to bring back ‘Lovejoy’ – with a “gorgeous blonde” replacing him in the lead role.
The 76-year-old actor portrayed the titular antiques dealer in the BBC1 series from 1986 to 1994 and he thinks the time is right to reboot the show, but suggested it would work better with a young female as the focal point of the drama.
He said: “Everybody keeps asking me about my thing in Lovejoy and I said if you are going to do Lovejoy, then hire a daughter.
“It would be a perfect. It is a great part for a young actress in England. You bring it back, talk about Lovejoy and then in walks this gorgeous blonde and that is the new Lovejoy.”
But Ian has ruled himself out of appearing in any revival.
He said: “But you know you cannot go back again 25 years. As much as you like to, it is not the same.”
Instead, the actor can next be seen in the upcoming ‘Deadwood’ movie and revealed his alter ego, saloon owner Al Swearengen has changed since the HBO series ended in 2006 after three seasons.
Speaking to promote the film in the US, he said: “Al is not exactly what he used to be. I mean you can’t drink that much and not be.”
But he was still delighted to return to the story.
He added: “When I was on the road, it would be on and I would watch, and I’d finish up, smiling to myself, ‘it’s a really good show’.
“It was a great show, a terrific show. No bones about it. We did three years. A lot of shows don’t get that.”

He wrote: “On Saturday 27th April, The Skillet will be opening its doors to welcome the public from 8am-5pm, in honour of Mike Thalassitis.

“Together, we have created a first-rate breakfast bar we hope you will enjoy and we invite you all to come down and celebrate his love of good food. Look forward to seeing you all there!”
Mike’s friend, fellow ‘Love Island’ star Montana Brown, has promised to attend the launch.
She wrote on Instagram: “Mike worked so hard on The Skillet and he put his heart and soul into it and it really was his little project that he adored and he loves cooking.”
Scott confirmed shortly after Mike’s death that he would still be opening the doors of The Skillet because he felt it was what his friend would have wanted.
A statement on the restaurant’s Instagram account read: “Just to address all the speculation. I would like to make it clear that we will be opening The Skillet when it is ready, it has been a tough week trying to continue to sort things out.
“However, Mike would’ve wanted this cafe to open, he spent everyday for the past couple of months working hard to make this place a success so we are pulling together to get this ready for everyone and especially for Mike.
“Can’t wait to share it with you all, and I will announce the date of the opening shortly.”

Danny Dyer’s letter from Prince Charles

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny Dyer was delighted to receive a letter from his “cousin” Prince Charles welcoming him to the family.
The ‘EastEnders’ actor surprisingly discovered he is distantly related to King Edward III and William The Conqueror during a 2016 appearance on ‘Who Do You Think You Are?, and his wife Joanne Mas has revealed he was pleased to receive a note from Charles, who is next in line to the throne.
She is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “I can’t really say too much, but Prince Charles wrote to Danny.
“When he got the letter he was like, ‘Look at me – he’s my cousin.’ ”
It’s not the first time Danny has been in contact with Charles since he discovered his royal heritage.
The ‘Football Factory’ actor shook hands with the future king at a Prince’s Trust event in March and appeared delighted to tell the Prince of Wales that they were related.
He told the 70-year-old prince: “Just wanted to let you know we’re related.”
Charles seemed slightly surprised and one of his aides chuckled.
In January, Danny – who plays pub landlord Mick Carter on the BBC One soap – admitted he thinks the Royal Family see him as one of their “embarrassing cousins they don’t want to acknowledge”.
He said at the time: “I haven’t heard anything from the Royal Family. I’m clearly one of their embarrassing cousins they’ve got but don’t want to acknowledge.
“I could be mixing in those circles. I don’t know it would be nice if they did want to acknowledge it. Maybe one day.
“I heard the queen is a fan of ‘EastEnders’ though. I heard she always watches the Christmas special, which is nice I suppose.”

Ant and Dec auditioned for BGT dressed as dogs

OHMYGOSSIP — Ant and Dec secretly auditioned for this year’s ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ while wearing dog outfits.
The show’s hosts and ‘Britain’s Got More Talent’ presenter Stephen Mulhern wore canine costumes as part of a DJ act in what was thought to be the final audition of the series, and at the end of the try out they stripped off their animal attire to reveal their identities to judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams.
A show source told The Sun newspaper: “It was one of the moments of the day.
“Everyone was spent having watched loads of auditions but Ant and Dec thought it would be a good way to finish things off.”
The trio were said to have had the doggy disguises specially made for the audition.
The source added: “The boys and Stephen had dog outfits made especially and performed a DJ set which went down a treat with the crowd despite no one having a clue who they were.
“The judges were in stitches when they stripped off at the end.”
Ant returned to ‘BGT’ this year after taking time out of the spotlight in 2018 to seek help for addiction following a drink-driving conviction.
The 43-year-old TV presenter felt overwhelmed by the positive fan reaction as he reunited with Dec on the programme.
He recently said: “Wow, it was so emotional for me.
“I don’t think either of us were quite prepared for that. We didn’t expect that level of goodwill and love. It was a very emotional day for me.”

Luther is to be remade in India

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Luther’ is to be remade in India.
The hit BBC One show – which stars Idris Elba as the DCI John Luther – is now being remade into a local Asian version by Indian content studio Applause Entertainment.
The upcoming Indian edition of the show will have numerous seasons and the first series will consist of eight to 10 episodes.
Sameer Nair, Applause CEO, told Variety: “I am solving the hard work of actually putting it together, from the idea to the writing, to assembling the team, casting, production design, funding, to making it into a product that is good enough to stream immediately.
“There’s a risk and there’s a reward. But we are operating at between $100,000-$200,000 an episode, which is reasonable.”
The company is backed by $45 billion Indian conglomerate Aditya Birla, and is said to have a production budget of around $45 million.
Applause Entertainment was set up in 2017 and according to Sameer, the company is ahead of schedule and is currently negotiating to provide content to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video in India.
Applause’s Indian remake of BBC series ‘Criminal Justice’ – which streams on Hotstar, Disney’s Indian OTT service – is now in production for second season.
And the BBC are pleased their show is going to be taken on by the Indian studio.
Myleeta Aga – SVP and GM of South and South East Asia at BBC Studios – said: “Applause is known for its focus on creating premium drama, and we believe that they will be able to do the format justice. We look forward to its success.”
This upcoming show will be the second Asian version of ‘Luther’ following the South Korean remake ‘Less Than Evil.’

Victoria Pendleton says Celebrity SAS was ‘like therapy’

OHMYGOSSIP — Victoria Pendleton says appearing on ‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’ was like “unconventional therapy”.
The 38-year-old Olympian has opened up about how appearing on the Stand Up to Cancer show helped lift her low mood and tested her limits.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’ on Wednesday (24.04.19), she said: “[The show] was a bit of unconventional therapy in many ways … so much fun, it was really hard work but you learn so much about yourself when you are pushed into that survival zone.
“They challenge you in terms of pushing your courage and trust … it gets you out of your own head.”
The athlete appeared on the show – which puts 12 stars on a gruelling seven-day survival slog, led by chief instructor and former soldier Ant Middleton – alongside Made in Chelsea’s Sam Thompson, former ‘Love Island’ star Camilla Thurlow, Loose Women’s Andrea McLean and sportsman Ben Foden, among others.
Last year, the brunette was unable to complete her climb to the summit of Mount Everest with Ben Fogle, as documented in CNN’s ‘The Challenge: Everest’ , because she “lost confidence” during the brave venture.
She said: “It was very difficult for me to be patient with myself. I saw myself as a very capable individual.
“I was like, ‘I can do this, I can get through it.’ But it doesn’t matter how hard you push, sometimes you just have to let it run its course.
“For me I found that really hard. I kept finding ways to keep myself active … and taking on challenges like this.
“When I came out the other side, I thought, you know, I can do this, I have still got the strength and ability, but I just kind of lost confidence I guess.”
The Olympic gold medal-winning cyclist also admitted her impressive accolades are also a “curse in some ways” because they spur her to participate in different competitions and hunt for glory when she should be resting and focusing on her well-being.
She said: “I think it’s kind of a curse in some ways … when the SAS show came up, I was very much in recovery and my sister was very negative.
“She was saying, ‘I think you need to look after yourself’. But I also really wanted to say yes, because that’s the person I am deep down.”

Carol Harrison believes ‘age thing’ was reason for EastEnders axe

OHMYGOSSIP — Carol Harrison believes she was axed from ‘EastEnders’ because of “an age thing”.
The 64-year-old actress was 42 when her character Louise Raymond – the mother of Tiffany Mitchell (Martine McCutcheon) – was no longer required, and she believes part of the show bosses’ decision was due to how old she was, and claims there weren’t many parts for “middle-aged” stars on the programme at the time.
She said: “You spend so much time playing that character that obviously what they’re going through affects you as well, if you’re method.
“I felt a real sense of rejection.
“Acting has always been my very first love and then it was suddenly completely unrequited.
“It was an age thing. There was a time when there were hardly any parts for someone of my age and in that soap as well, they were divided.
“It was the youngsters and the older people. That middle range of us, what we were, middle-aged I guess.”
Carol – whose main storyline saw Louise engage in an affair with Tiffany’s husband Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp) – found it “very confusing” that there weren’t many parts around after she departed ‘EastEnders’, and says she was considered “mutton dressed as lamb” when she left the soap.
She said: “The fact was I was in my 40s then, and I guess because the role was so powerful, she had this affair with a younger man.
“In fact, Grant’s character was nearer to my age than he was to Tiffany’s age.
“There was kind of that stigma about an older woman, that you’re a kind of cougar. I came from desirable to desperate.
“When I came out [of ‘EastEnders’] I couldn’t understand it at first, it was very confusing. Then I just realised, ‘Where are the parts?’
“There weren’t many parts for a woman like me of that age. Suddenly they dried up.
“I was offered some parts but they were all very similar, which is because you’re working class and because you dress up the description was ‘mutton dressed as lamb’.”
Carol also claims she first discovered she was being let go from the soap when she read about it in the newspapers.
Speaking on ‘This Morning’, she added: “The person who was in the last management took me on. And the new exec producer came on board and I guess when somebody else comes in they want to make their changes.
“A lot of people left and a lot of them found out in the newspaper, and I’m thinking, ‘Oh my God, how terrible.’
“Then the next week there I was.”

Alison Hammond joins WW as ambassador

OHMYGOSSIP — Alison Hammond has joined WW as their new ambassador.
The ‘This Morning’ roving reporter is delighted to become the face of the weight loss assistance company – formerly known as Weight Watchers before slimming down its moniker – because the programme encourages her to keep fit and stay healthy while she juggles her hectic lifestyle as a mother and television star.
Alison said: “My WW journey is focused on getting healthier for myself. I feel rubbish when I don’t eat properly or exercise and WW helps me with what I eat and do.
“It’s been 17 years since I began working in TV, and I’m busier than ever, especially juggling my duties as a mum. WW is the only programme that works for me, with the Online WW Coach there for support whenever you need it, 24 hours a day.
“They tell me what I need to do if I’m struggling or in need of inspiration.
“So, for me, having that support in my pocket at all times is incredible. This is a huge relief when you’re considering something as important as your mental and physical health.”
The 44-year-old TV presenter – who has a 13-year-old son Aiden – says her mission is to empower others to make positive lifestyle changes and become healthier.
She said: “I know I’ll also lose weight through following the WW programme, but that’s not the be-all and end-all for me. I want my journey to empower others to think about making changes to their lifestyle to become the best version of themselves.”
WW bosses are delighted to welcome Alison – who shot to fame after appearing on the third series of ‘Big Brother’ in 2002 – to their brand, because they know her outgoing and bubbly personality will inspire others who also want to get into shape.
Jemma Banks, WW marketing director, said: “We are delighted to welcome Alison to the family and know her positive energy and mind-set will inspire others who want to lose weight and get healthier.”

Nicola Coughlan gets ‘followed around’ during Belfast trips

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicola Coughlan often gets “followed around” by groups of teenage girls when she goes back to Belfast.
The 32-year-old actress plays Clare Devlin in the hit Channel Four series ‘Derry Girls’, which tells the story of four teenage girls in 1990s Northern Ireland during the Troubles, and following the show’s huge success she is tracked around the country’s capital by teen super-fans keen to see what she is buying.
She told Grazia magazine: “When I’m in Belfast I get followed around a lot. Especially if I’m with another Derry Girl.
“It’s often groups of teenage girls who will follow us around the shops.”
Galway-born Nicola has been told by fans of the show that her Derry accent has “got better” as the series has progressed, despite the show not being filmed in sequence.
She added: “People are really friendly. Although sometimes people give me advice on my Derry accent.
“Some have said it wasn’t that good in the first episode, but it got better as the series went along.
“But everything wasn’t filmed in sequence, so I’m like, ‘Oh, OK – thanks so much.’
“There were people online saying the accents were terrible but my co-stars Saoirse [Jackson] and Jamie [Donnell] are actually from Derry.”
The blonde beauty will often enjoy a drink with her co-stars – including Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell and Dylan Llewellyn – after a busy day of filming, after they became “so close” both on and off screen.
She added: “After a day on set, the five of us Derry Girls would head back to the apartment block in Belfast.
“We’d drink some wine and set the world to rights. It was lovely and I think that’s why we’ve become so close.”

Barbara Windsor won’t watch husband Scott Mitchell at London Marathon

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Barbara Windsor won’t watch her husband Scott Mitchell cross the finish line at the London Marathon on Sunday (28.04.19).
The 81-year-old actress was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2014, and her spouse Scott is running the annual event, alongside several of her former ‘EastEnders’ co-stars, to raise awareness for the charity Dementia Revolution, which was launched by Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK.
But Scott, 56, says his wife will not be able to watch him participate in the run because it will be “overwhelming” and he won’t be there if she has a “confused moment”.
Speaking ‘Good Morning Britain’, Scott said: “At the beginning I was really hoping that [she could attend], but after having a couple of meetings with various people, the logistics of it, I’ve had a really serious think and I think it’s best that she’s not there.
“I think it would get very overwhelming for her, everyone would want to give her a hug. I won’t be there for her if there’s one of those confused moments.
“I just think it would be better for her own wellbeing if she’s at home.”
But Scott admitted the ‘EastEnders’ legend – who played Queen Vic landlady Peggy Mitchell – mostly suffers her “confused moments” during the evenings.
He added: “One of the things I’ve noticed is the evenings are always worse.
“I’ve become a focal point for her in the confused moments and she says, ‘As long as I can see you I know something is OK.
“Sometimes you’re having a normal conversation and I’ll be laughing and then it goes out of your mind that something is wrong.”
The ‘Carry On’ star started to learn she was having problems around the time she was leaving the popular series in 2010.
He added: “It was around the time she was leaving ‘EastEnders’, she was starting to have problems with her lines.
“And I noticed a change in Barbara, her personality. There was a slight seriousness and a slight vacant look at times which wasn’t her.”

Louisa Clein says Joe-Warren Plant has chaperones on Emmerdale set

OHMYGOSSIP — Louisa Clein says Joe-Warren Plant has “always got chaperones around” on the ‘Emmerdale’ set.
The 40-year-old actress and the teen – who celebrated his 17th birthday just two weeks ago – are currently involved in a teacher-pupil grooming storyline, and they have tried to ensure there isn’t much “physical stuff” on screen between the pair because they want to tell a story of “manipulation” rather than show “titillating” situations.
She said: “He’s always got chaperones around, and the story is such that we’ve tried to stay away from as much physical stuff on screen as possible.
“We don’t want to make it titillating and a bit kind of raunchy, that’s not the story we’re telling.
“It’s about the manipulation, and it’s about the suggestion of what she’s doing to him.”
Louisa admits it is “awkward” filming the intimate scenes but insists it would be with an older actor, too, and she praised Joe-Warren’s “maturity” and “professionalism”.
Speaking on ‘Loose Women’, she added: “Listen, it’s a job, that’s what we do as actors isn’t it. It’s awkward when it’s someone your own age as much as when it’s someone young.
“Joe-Warren’s been on the show since he was eight years old, he’s grown up on that show. He has a family on that show that love him and look after him.
“He’s incredibly mature and professional as an actor, and we all look after him and he looks after us as well.”
Last month, Louisa said the star is a “joy to work with”.
She explained: “It is difficult, but Joe-Warren Plant is a joy to work with and he’s so mature for his age.
“He’s been on the show for such a long time and has been working with adults since he was eight years old, so he’s very happy around adults. You wouldn’t necessarily pin him as 16 when you met him.”

James Wan adapting Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot

OHMYGOSSIP — James Wan is adapting Stephen King’s novel ‘Salem’s Lot’ for the big screen.
The producer is teaming up with screenwriter Gary Dauberman – who penned the script for 2017’s remake of King’s classic horror novel ‘It’ and the upcoming sequel – with whom he created some of the biggest hits in the Conjuring Universe such as ‘Annabelle’ and ‘The Nun’ to adapt the 1975 book for New Line Cinema.
The tome – which was Stephen’s first book to top the New York Times Bestseller list – follows a writer who returns to his childhood home, the town of Jerusalem’s Lot, where he discovers everyone he used to know is now a vampire.
Roy Lee and Mark Wolper will also produce while Dauberman is on board as executive producer.
‘Salem’s Lot’ was previously adapted into a 1979 miniseries and starred David Soul as the writer and Rob Lowe starred in a more recent adaptation made by TNT in 2004.
King’s stories are proving to be very popular in Hollywood once again with a new version of ‘Pet Sematary’ just released in cinemas, whilst his 2003 short story ‘Rest Stop’ will soon be adapted by Alex Ross Perry.
The 34-year-old indie filmmaker will be writing the screenplay the story, which was originally published in Esquire magazine and later featured in the horror writer’s 2008 collection ‘Just After Sunset’.
The ‘Her Smell’ director will also helm the project, which follows author John Dykstra, who writes under the pen name Rick Hardin.
The writer overhears a couple arguing in a rest stop bathroom and the sounds of domestic abuse – and although he is too timid to act, his tougher alter-ego Rick intervenes and attacks the man with a tire iron, sparking a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse.
Andy Muschietti’s ‘It – Chapter Two’ will be released in September and will see the adult members of ‘The Losers Club’ return to Maine to fight Pennywise the Dancing Clown once again.

The Girl on the Train to get Bollywood remake

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Girl on the Train’ is set to receive a Bollywood remake.
Reliance Entertainment is set to produce the Hindi reboot of the 2016 film based on Paula Hawkins’ best-selling novel and Parineeti Chopra will star as Rachel Watson, a role originally played by Emily Blunt.
The Hollywood version, directed by Tate Taylor, followed alcoholic divorcee Rachel who spends her time observing a couple she doesn’t know during her daily train commutes before finding herself in the middle of a missing person investigation involving the couple she has been obsessing over.
Production on the remake is due to begin in July and wrap by September.
Parineeti, 30, is keen to take on more challenging roles and insisted ‘The Girl on the Train’ “really worked for her” as a project.
In a statement, she said: “I want to do roles that audiences haven’t seen me in before and one’s that require a lot of prep and homework, which is why ‘The Girl on the Train’ really worked for me. The character is an alcoholic and a victim of abuse, and I haven’t explored anything like her onscreen before. I never thought I’d actually be doing a film around a book I’ve read and loved. I relate to the character because I’ve studied and worked in London, it’s my second home.”
Reliance Entertainment CEO Shibasish Sarkar added: “Not only is ‘The Girl on the Train’ one of the best psychological thrillers, but also a heartwarming story of the female protagonist and her discovery of life. We have procured the rights of the book and the film and will be adapting it from an Indian storytelling perspective. Amblin will be a partner in this film.”
