Nicholas Lyndhurst doubts Only Fools and Horses would be made now

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicholas Lyndhurst doesn’t think ‘Only Fools and Horses’ would be made today.
The 57-year-old star – who played Rodney Trotter on the sitcom – thinks comedy has changed over the years and it is no longer acceptable to have “cruelty” or a “victim”, and so the tension in the relationship between his alter ego and his on-screen brother Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter (Sir David Jason) would no longer be a source of gags.
Speaking on ‘BBC Breakfast’, he said: “Well, I think they’d probably look at the précis of [the show] and go, ‘Well, it’s two people just fighting each other all the time.’
“You have to have cruelty in comedy – if you take the victim out of comedy, or out of a joke, there is no joke.
“It’s quite PC, rightly or wrongly. Comedy is about, ‘I’m glad that didn’t happen to me’, ‘Look at him, he fell down that hole’.
“Chaplin knew all about it and we laughed at Chaplin because it wasn’t us falling down the hole.”
Nicholas previously admitted he can’t bear to watch the show any more because so many of the cast, including Roger Lloyd-Pack (Trigger), Ken MacDonald (Mike) and Buster Merryfield (Uncle Albert), have passed away.
He said: “I can’t watch it now. I don’t want to see friends who are no longer with us on screen.
“We used to go and surprise them on their birthdays. We used to wind them up. We used to tease each other. It was a family. So yeah, it’s sad.
“I remember Lennard Pearce, who played Grandad – bless his heart – saying to me, ‘Have you heard about these new VHS video recorder machines? That means we’ll now live forever. Did you ever think of that?’ I said, ‘Christ no, I hadn’t.’ ”
And Nicholas admits it would be “impossible” to make another episode of the classic sitcom because the show’s creator and writer John Sullivan, who penned every episode, has also passed away.
He said: “We can’t do it. It’s impossible without John. And not just that: we’ve lost Roger, Ken, Buster, Lennard, and Roy [Heather, cafe owner Sid].
“That’s a big chunk of the cast, sadly, not with us anymore. Of course, we can’t do it without them. Wouldn’t dream of it.”

Chris Packham vows to defy death threats

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Packham won’t be intimidated by death threats.
The ‘Springwatch’ presenter, who successfully campaigned for Natural England to revoke general licences needed to kill 16 species of “pest birds”, received a letter earlier this week that vowed to “succeed” in a bid to kill him but he insisted the note won’t stop him from continue to back the cause.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “For me this is part and parcel of the process. I’m campaigning for change. It will never sway me from my cause. They can threaten to organise a car crash or poison me – it’s not going to stop me. People might think this is bravado from me, but I cannot allow these sorts of things to sway me.
“There are too few people fighting to protect our environment and our landscape. And I have to carry on.”
The conservationist’s partner Charlotte Corney was at home when the letter arrived and his stepdaughter Megan, 23, felt “shaken” when she saw the note.
The threatening message was written in block capitals and stated: “We know where you live Packham and we will get you some way or another. We want you dead and we will succeed.
“R.T.A? Poison there are numerous ways… as long as you f***ing die thats all that matters.(sic)”
The 57-year-old star praised “brilliant” Hampshire Pollice, who have taken the letter as part of their investigation.
A force spokesperson confirmed: “We received a report of malicious communications/threats sent through the post. Enquiries are on-going.”
However, Chris is not so impressed by Facebook after his address was leaked on social media and they failed to take it down.
He said: “I can’t speak kindly about Facebook – they are extremely resistant to things. My address is out there and there’s definitely incitement to violence.”
Chris received the letter a few days after a pair of dead crows were strung up outside his gate – but he felt the “ghastly action” just proved he is making “progress” with his cause.
He said: “In a sad and perverse way this ghastly action indicates I’m making progress. I’ve always said I’m not here to make friends, I’m here to make a difference.”

Jack Whitehall to present The Graham Norton Show

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack Whitehall is to present ‘The Graham Norton Show’.
The 30-year-old comedian will guest host the talk show on Friday May 17th, and he is “honoured” to fill the 56-year-old comedian’s “showbiz boots” while Graham is away in Tel Aviv preparing for the ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ final on Saturday May 18th.
Speaking about hosting the show, Jack said: “I was so honoured Graham asked me to do this for him.
“The thought of stepping into his huge showbiz boots fills me in equal measure with fear and excitement.
“Worst case, I will make everyone appreciate just how lucky we are to have him.”
Graham is delighted the ‘Fresh Meat’ star will be fronting his show while he is away but also joked he shouldn’t get “too comfortable” because he will be returning to his presenting chair.
He said: “I’m thrilled to know that I am leaving the show in Jack’s capable hands. He is bound to do an amazing job.
“I should warn him not to get too comfortable in my chair though, because like a slightly fey terminator, I’ll be back.”
Jack’s guests include, Luke Evans, Paloma Faith and Gwendoline Christie.
As well as the small screen, the comedian is landing more movie roles and is set to join Idris Elba in film ‘Mouse Guard’.
The ‘Jungle Cruise’ actor is reportedly in discussions to join Idris, Andy Serkis, Samson Kayo and Thomas Brodie-Sangster in Fox’s adaptation of the popular Boom! Studios comic, which is being directed by Wes Ball.
The motion picture – which is set in a medieval world – will tell the story of an order of mice who are the sworn protectors of their realm.
Jack is reportedly in a “calm and measured staff wielder” named Kenzie.

The 21-year-old actress – who is the daughter of the director and Leslie Mann – is set to star as Pete’s on-screen sister in the untitled semi-autobiographical film about around the ‘Saturday Night Live’ star, which is set for release on June 19, 2020.
The film’s script has been penned by Apatow, Davidson and Dave Sirus, and Apatow will produce the picture for his Apatow Productions alongside Barry Mendel.

Pete, 25, grew up in Staten Island, New York and lost his firefighter father in the September 11 terror attacks, when he was just seven, and the comedian has previously admitted that the death of his parent has greatly influenced his stand-up routines – which he started at the age of 16.

Dennis Quaid says secret to Hollywood longevity is ‘sticking with it’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dennis Quaid is having the “sweetest time in his career”.
The 65-year-old actor has enjoyed a Hollywood career which has spanned five decades and he believes the secret to his longevity is that he “stuck with it” through all the ups and downs and still has “fire in his belly”.
In an interview with the Metro newspaper, he said: “I stuck with it. I look back and ask, ‘Where are some of the people I started with?’ I don’t know! I still have as much fire in my belly for it as I did in my twenties. In a way more. I’m having more fun. It’s probably the sweetest time in my career.”
The ‘A Dog’s Journey’ star has seen a lot of things change in the movie and television business since he started out, but the biggest shift has been the rise of home streaming services which Dennis says is comparable to the independent movies that were being made in the 1970s.
He said: “What’s going on in TV and streaming, in particular, is akin to what was going on in the movies in the ’70s. You felt like the inmates had taken over the asylum. They were making films that weren’t necessarily commercial films back then and streaming has taken the place of independent film, in a way.
“You don’t necessarily have to be the widest common denominator audience in order for a film to be successful. It’s opened up this well of creativity.”
Dennis has very few regrets in his career other than a few roles that he mistakenly spurned.
He said: “I don’t really have any regrets. I was offered several things [that I refused]. Looking back I’m like ‘What was I thinking?'”

Georgia Toffolo gets stuck in toilet day after celebrating Grosvenor House 90th anniversary

OHMYGOSSIP — Georgia ‘Toff’ Toffolo got stuck in a toilet the day after enjoying a lavish event.
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ winner had no trouble navigating the Australian jungle when she triumphed on the 2017 series, but back on home soil she somehow managed to get herself trapped in a loo on Wednesday (01.05.19).
Fresh from attending the 90th Anniversary of the iconic hotel JW Marriott Grosvenor House London on Park Lane on Tuesday night (30.04.19), Toff found herself in the sticky situation.
Documenting the predicament on her Instagram Stories, she shouted: “Can you get me out? Where are you? I’ve tried everything.”
An unknown figure attempted to open the door from the other side, and Toff, while laughing, put her foot up against the door in a desperate attempt to remove herself from the toilet.
She captioned the image: “Great locked in the loo”
But fortunately, she managed to free herself from the bathroom.
Toff was able to laugh off the potential scary situation, and she was also full of smiles at Grosvenor House on Tuesday night.
The event featured live music and performances by the Birmingham Royal Ballet as well as food from Corrigan’s and Ruya, and several stars including Love Island’s Caroline Flack, former ‘Coronation Street’ star Ryan Thomas, and classical singing sensation Natalie Rushdie were in attendance.
What’s more, Kara Tointon enjoyed a chat with Ryan and his girlfriend Lucy Mecklenburgh.
The former ‘EastEnders’ star wrote on Instagram: “Lovely evening celebrating at Grosvenor House #90yearsonparklane @grosvenorhouselondon @greenroomvip (sic)”

Gemma Winter’s mum joins Coronation Street

OHMYGOSSIP — Jane Hazlegrove has returned to ‘Coronation Street’ – 34 years after she was last on the ITV soap.
The 50-year-old star has joined the show as Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash) mum Bernie, who will appear on the cobbles in July.
Jane – who played Kathleen ‘Dixie’ Dixon in ‘Casualty’ from 2006 to 2016 – said: “I’m thrilled to be joining ‘Coronation Street’.
“It’s where I started my apprenticeship as a very young actor. I can’t wait to get stuck in.”
A ‘Coronation Street’ spokesperson said: “Like mother, like daughter. We are very pleased that the fantastic Jane Hazlegrove has agreed to join the cast as the irrepressible and impossible Gemma’s even more irrepressible and impossible mother. Fur will fly.”
Bernie is described as “an old raver who still sees herself as a free spirit”, and she will “ruffle feathers” when she turns up further down the line in her daughter’s pregnancy.
Gemma is pleased by her mum’s Weatherfield arrival, but Paul is more suspicious of her motives.
Jane initially starred as cheeky teen Sue Clayton – the daughter of milkman Harry Clayton (Johnny Leeze) and sister of Andrea Clayton (Caroline O’Neill) – on the cobbles in 1985, making 27 appearances on the show.
Sue is believed to have last been mentioned in 1986 when Sally Webster (Sally Dynevor) said she was still living in Weatherfield.
Jane previously admitted she left ‘Casualty’ because she missed theatre work.
Speaking in 2016, she said: “I miss the people, but it’s an all-consuming job. You work Monday to Friday and playing a paramedic means you are out on the road somewhere in Wales and it’s teeming down. It’s relentless.
“I loved it and I met the most incredible people and I learnt a lot about television acting and myself but it was time to go.
“The impetus to leave was because I missed theatre. I wanted to see if those muscles still worked.
“I was a little apprehensive in rehearsals, but the company is amazing, it’s been so accommodating. I had to jump in and commit myself and they gave me the room to do that.”

Davina McCall enjoys being trolled over exercise regime

OHMYGOSSIP — Davina McCall is proud to be trolled for doing too much exercise.
The 51-year-old TV presenter loves to post photos of herself exercising and upload bikini shots showing off the results of her hard work in the gym which prompts some followers to send her negative comments berating her for being obsessed with the gym.
But Davina isn’t troubled by the trolls because she loves her healthy lifestyle.
Appearing on ‘Loose Women on Wednesday (01.05.19), she said: “I don’t really care. I would much rather be trolled about doing too much exercise. At least that is a good thing. I exercise three or four times a week for an hour, that’s not too much.”
When panellist Janet Street-Porter informed the former ‘Big Brother’ host that some guidelines have suggested walking for fifteen minutes is enough, Davina said: “I have always said three times a week or nothing. If you don’t do three times a week, you are never going to get the benefit from exercise – 15 or 20 mins walk a day might help with your blood pressure. I am not dissing other people. I don’t think three or four hours a week is addicted … If I met someone that told me they did two hours every day and had the weekend off, I still wouldn’t think they were addicted.”
Davina – who is fronting Garnier’s Recycle Plastic To Make Your School Fantastic campaign – also warned the trolls that hate her bikini pictures that she is going to post even more of those images as she gets older.
She said: “Well, don’t follow me. I am always going to do it. The more you tell me not to do it … If you tell me not to do it, I am going to do it. I think the older I get, the more defiant I am. I want to be naughtier.”
“I really embrace anyone who is owning anything they are wearing and however they are looking. If you wear it with confidence…”

Darcey Bussell didn’t want to ‘push her luck’ on Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Darcey Bussell didn’t want to “push [her] luck” by remaining as a judge on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 50-year-old retired ballerina shocked the Latin and ballroom show’s supporters last month by announcing she was stepping down from the judging panel after seven years, and has now admitted the decision didn’t come easily.
She said: “It is not a decision that came easily at all.
“But I knew I had the most amazing time for seven years and it is like pushing your luck to think that I could even do another seven years.
“So I just knew it was time for me to finish and to give that place for somebody else to judge on that wonderful show.”
While she became a household name from judging on ‘Strictly’, Darcey is keen for her two daughters to remember her as a classical dancer as well as the BBC One programme.
She added to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: “I do have boxes and boxes of memorabilia. I think it comes from everywhere you perform, as I have been so fortunate to perform around the world.
“I do it for my daughters, as I want them to remember me as a classical dancer and not just a judge on ‘Strictly’.”
Last month, the former Royal Ballet pro insisted she wasn’t departing the programme due to “any upset or disagreement” and simply wants to focus on her “many other commitments in dance”.
Darcey – who became a full-time judge on the show’s 10th series in 2012 – said in a statement: “It has been a complete privilege for me to be part of ‘Strictly’, working with such a talented team.
“I have enjoyed every minute of my time and will miss everyone from my fellow judges, the presenters, the dancers, the musicians, the entire back stage team, and especially the viewers of the show, who have been so supportive.
“I am not leaving because of any upset or disagreement at all, I am just stepping away to give more focus to my many other commitments in dance, after seven truly wonderful years that I can’t imagine having gone any better.”
Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas, and Bruno Tonioli remain on the judging panel.

Shailene Woodley joins Misanthrope

OHMYGOSSIP — Shailene Woodley has joined the cast of ‘Misanthrope’.
The movie is based on an original story by the writer and director Damián Szifron, and 27-year-old star Woodley has tipped the motion picture to create “a profound impact on cinema”.
She told Variety: “Screenplays like ‘Misanthrope,’ that are this well executed both in theme and tone, are rare to come by with a director like Damian behind the wheel.
“I have complete trust we will create something that will have a profound impact on cinema and will resonate with audiences, especially given the times we are living in right now. I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this team.”
FilmNation Entertainment will present the film to potential buyers at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Szifron admits he “can’t wait” to share the movie, which tells the story of a cop who is enlisted to track down a murderer, with the world, and he praised the “talented and inspiring” ‘Divergent’ actress.
He said: “I’m privileged to be working with an actress as talented and inspiring as Shailene Woodley, this incredible producing team, and the support of FilmNation.
“‘Misanthrope’ will deliver the kind of cinematic experience that made me a filmmaker and I can’t wait to share it with audiences all over the world.”

Anjelica Huston doesn’t want ‘comeback’ tales

OHMYGOSSIP — Anjelica Huston doesn’t want to be “humiliated” with an “old-lady cheerleader movie”.
The 67-year-old actress doesn’t want to be regarded as a “has-been” or be seen to be making a “comeback” in her work these days, so she’s on the look out for films that find a way to “impress” her.
Asked how she’s lured into a movie, she said: “Oh God, it’s so easy. Quite honestly, I’m looking for movies that impress me in some way, that aren’t apologetically humble or humiliating like, ‘Band of cheerleaders gets back together for one last hurrah,’ you know. An old-lady cheerleader movie. I don’t like that kind of thing.
“If I’m going to be an old lady — and I’m sort of touching old lady these days — at least I want to be a special old lady. I don’t want to be relegated to some has-been making a comeback. I hate comebacks.”
But the Oscar-winning actress admitted she still receives a lot of “insulting” offers.
She told New York magazine: “[My agents] come to me with everything. And a lot of it is insulting, but I’m at a place where I don’t want to do it anymore. I don’t want to work without a trailer.”
Anjelica can next be seen as a Russian ballet instructor opposite Keanu Reeves in ‘John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum’ and was attracted to the franchise because of her love of dogs.
She said: “I don’t like violent movies. But I like this movie…
“This is a movie about a guy who’s basically avenging the death of his puppy. Jesus, I’m passionate about dogs. It’s a huge thing.”

Katie McGlynn to leave Coronation Street?

OHMYGOSSIP — Katie McGlynn looks set to leave ‘Coronation Street’.
The 25-year-old actress – who was this week nominated in the Best Female Dramatic Performance category for the upcoming British Soap Awards – has portrayed Sinead Tinker on the cobbles since 2013, but she is reportedly set to bow out of the role later this year.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Katie has just been nominated for a British Soap Award so it’s a big loss and not what bosses would have wanted to hear.”
But ‘Corrie’ insist the former ‘Waterloo Road’ star is “fully committed” to playing out the rest of her character’s cervical cancer storyline, and say the plot “still has a long way to go”.
A spokesperson said: “Katie is fully committed to playing out the extremely important storyline she is currently portraying on screen.
“This story still has a long way to go. Any speculation threatens to undermine the storyline for viewers.”
In January, Katie admitted her ‘Coronation Street’ future was “up in the air”.
She said at the time: “I’m contracted well into this year but it is up in the air. Although I have to wait and see what happens, I quite like not knowing.
“With the nature of my storyline, I guess it’s 50/50. Either way I’d be happy, though.”
The reports come just hours after Faye Brookes confirmed she will be leaving her ‘Corrie’ role of Kate Connor following “four fabulous years” in Weatherfield.
She tweeted: “Thanks to everyone for your amazing support, but after 4 fabulous years in Weatherfield it’s time for me to explore new opportunities, I’ve loved playing Kate Connor, but she needs a break for a little while and so with a song in my heart I’m off to pastures new. (sic)”
Faye’s decision comes just two months after her on-screen fiancée Rana Habeeb, played by Bhavna Limbachia, was killed off.
But Bhavna later admitted it was her decision to have her ‘Corrie’ character meet her maker.

Samantha Giles digs nails into hands to stop spoiling Emmerdale scenes

OHMYGOSSIP — Samantha Giles digs her fingernails into her hands to stop herself from spoiling ‘Emmerdale’ scenes by laughing.
The 47-year-old actress’ co-star Jonny McPherson – who plays Doctor Jonathan Boam – has also taken on the tactic to stop himself from cracking up during filming, and he has been left with “bruised palms” as a result.
Speaking about shooting scenes with Samantha (Bernice Blackstock), he said: “It would be easier to count the ones where we have kept a straight face.
“Once Sam has gone, that’s it. She has a tactic of digging her fingernails into the palm of her hand to stop her from laughing, which I’ve adopted.
“I have bruised palms by the end of a scene. She’s a terrible influence.”
Jonny insists he and Sam are “never” awkward when they are filming intimate scenes because they are “good friends”.
He added to Inside Soap magazine: “On the first day of a new job you might have to kiss someone, and it can be very peculiar situation to stick yourself in.
“But Sam and I are good friends, and we’re really comfortable with each other.”
And Sam and Jonny aren’t the only soap stars who inflict pain on themselves to stop cracking up in a scene.
‘Coronation Street’ actor Simon Gregson – who plays Steve McDonald on the ITV soap – recently revealed his co-star Ben Price (Nick Tilsley) has to stab himself with a toothpick to stop himself laughing.
He said: “I love working with Chris Gascoyne and Ben Price, before now Ben has had to have a toothpick to stick in his hand to stop him laughing in a scene.”
