OHMYGOSSIP — Nicola Thorp exercises to help with her anxiety.
The ‘Coronation Street’ actress – who plays Nicola Rubenstein on the hit ITV soap – has opened up about her struggles for Mental Health Awareness week after she went for a run for the first time this year and she explained how it’s made her realise she has come out of a “bad patch”.
Posting a candid note on Twitter, she wrote: “I think most people have something they recognise within themselves that marks the end of a bad patch.
“Not having a cig first thing in the morning. Making a meal for themselves. Calling their nan, or listening to a particularly song… all simple everyday things that seemed impossible during the dark times.
“Mine is exercise. I tricked myself into doing it today.”
The soap star has spoken out to help inspire others who might be going through the same thing, as she admitted how difficult it has been for her.
Nicola, 30, said: “Despite knowing that exercise can be a huge help in the struggle against depression and anxiety, it’s the last thing I could face doing.
“It’s easy for friends and loved ones to say ‘go for a run’, ‘get outside, it’ll do you good’… but for complex and nuanced psychological reasons just walking to the shops sometimes feels like a marathon for some people.”
Meanwhile, she has recently been working on a documentary and campaigning about the way schools educate children about contraception.
Speaking last month, Nicola explained how she wants her “future daughter” to be with a boy who is clued up on safe sex.
She said: “I constantly have my future daughter in my mind, and when I think it’s not worth it, I do it for her or my future son.
“It’s about the next generation. There’s this stigma around periods and contraception – it’s about breaking down that stigma and embarrassment.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Edna Everage is returning to TV.
BBC One have unveiled plans for an “unforgettable” one-off special featuring the housewife superstar – the alter ego of Barry Humphries – which will take place onboard her luxury yacht and feature celebrity guests and musical performances.
Kate Philips, BBC’s controller of entertainment commissioning, said: “There’s nothing like a Dame Edna and I can’t wait for this unforgettable one-off special to hit our screens.”
Rachel Ashdown, BBC Commissioning Editor, added: “Over the past 50 years Dame Edna has got to grips with the world’s biggest stars and I am looking forward to seeing her welcome the current generation of celebrities to her sofa.”
And the star promised the show would be better than spending a “lifetime” on a cruise liner.
She said: “The world needs sunshine so I am very happy to welcome you all on board. One hour on my yacht is better than a lifetime on a cruise liner.”
The programme will be filmed in front of an audience and the staff on the yacht will include some “familiar faces”.
The special, which is provisionally simply titled ‘The Dame Edna Show’, will air later this year.
Barry, 85, recently announced a stage comeback for his flamboyant character, six years after a farewell tour, with shows set to take place in Australia and America.
Dame Edna’s last TV show was ‘The Dame Edna Treatment’, which aired on ITV in 2007 but she has made guest appearances on a number of TV shows since then, including ‘Loose Women’ and ‘Michael McIntyre’s Big Show’, as well as a cameo in the ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ movie.

OHMYGOSSIP — Nadiya Hussain gets triggered by the toilet because of traumatic childhood bullying.
The ‘Great British Bake Off’ star – who has suffered panic attacks and anxiety since the age of 10 due to her primary school experiences – has been told she suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of her head being flushed down the toilet and thinking she was going to drown.
Speaking candidly on ITV’s ‘Loose Women’, she said: “My sister lives in a flat, and as you go up her stairs the first thing you see is her bathroom door.
“To this day, when I go up I can’t – every time I go to the toilet, I cannot take that image out of my head.
“I’ve tried for years to get away of that image but I can’t. That was the first time I had a panic attack, when my head was flushed down a toilet.”
The 34-year-old star has opened up about her mental health in new BBC documentary ‘Nadiya: Anxiety and Me’, and she admitted she was shocked to discover she was suffering from PTSD because she associated the disorder with the likes of war veterans.
She added: “That was the biggest surprise for me, to hear that it was PTSD. For years I thought it was panic disorder and anxiety, so to hear PTSD was a massive shock for me.
“I hadn’t realised what it was. When you hear PTSD, you hear people who went to war and fought for their country.
“My head was flushed down the toilet, but when you’re 11 that’s enough to make you really sick.”
And although Nadiya is glad to have spoken out about her own experiences for the BBC programme, she conceded despite being honest in the past, it was still difficult exposing so much of herself to the nation.
She said: “I talk about it but just little bits. So, yes and no. It wasn’t easy. Yes because I wanted to, because it’s important to talk about it. And no, because what on earth, that’s quite a lot of yourself to give up. It was tough.”
‘Nadiya: Anxiety and Me’ airs tonight (15.05.19) on BBC One at 9pm.

OHMYGOSSIP — Dean Andrews is proud when ‘Emmerdale’ fans can’t separate him from his evil character.
The 55-year-old actor joined the ITV soap earlier this year as villainous Will Taylor – who has been stalking his former wife Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton) and remains resentful over her role in sending him to prison – and he admitted he embraces a tough reaction from viewers.
After appearing on ‘Loose Women’ to boos from the audience, he said: “I think we kinda hope that we’ve made them believe that we’re like that…
“Most kinda hard guys or actors, [the character’s] usually not like they are in real life.
“If you’ve made an audience believe that you’re not a nice fella and that you could do some damage, you’ve probably done your job right.”
This week on the soap, the storyline – which has also involved the Will’s estranged daughter Dawn (Olivia Bromley) as she helps her father with his revenge plot – is set to hit “a crescendo” with a confrontation set between Will and Harriet.
Teasing viewers with what to expect, Dean added: “It kind of comes to a crescendo, all the stuff that Will’s been doing. They come face to face in the church, have a bit of a debate about what went off a few years ago. It all gets a bit much for Will, and he pounces, not in a good way.”
Although the evil character isn’t popular with fans, the actor is happy with the reaction he’s getting and he is pleased with how he’s been introduced to the soap.
He said: “To work with those two in my introduction to ‘Emmerdale’ has been a joy, it’s been great.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Mum’ writer Stefan Golaszewski says the series has reached its natural conclusion.
the popular BBC Two comedy drama will come to an end with its third and final season, and the programme’s creator has explained how he never intended for it to have a long run.
He told Digital Spy: “The story’s finished. It’s a bit like [predecessor] ‘Him & Her’, really [which wrapped after four series].
“I set off with an idea of where these characters were going at the start, and the journey that they should go on.
“So once that journey comes to its natural conclusion, the story’s finished. I mean, you could carry it on, I suppose, but you’d be doing it for all the wrong reasons.”
The show tells the story of widowed Cathy (Lesley Manville), her family and will they/won’t they romance with family friend Michael (Peter Mullan), with the final series set to wrap up the arc.
With a fitting conclusion on the horizon, fans are wondering what’s next for Stefan, but the writer wants to take his time before settling on his next project.
He explained: “What I need to do is sit and have a think, and give my brain a bath, and have a think about what story I want to tell. And then, from there, will rise… something, whether it’s a sitcom or a drama or whatever.
“But I don’t want to make that decision too hastily, because I think that will affect the quality of the work.
“It’s really tempting financially to try to get something off the ground straight away. But that isn’t really what drives me.”
‘Mum’ returns to BBC Two tonight (15.05.19) at 10pm, while the entire final series will be available on iPlayer from 10.30pm.

OHMYGOSSIP — Nathan Henry insists Chloe Ferry and Sam Growland will be fine to continue working on ‘Geordie Shore’.
The reality star has opened up after his two friends announced their breakup last week, and despite reports Chloe has refused to be with her former flame on screen, their pal thinks they will be able to get through filming.
Speaking to The Sun Online, he said: “At the end of the day we are a family, and no matter what happens we always do overcome things and try to work things out.
“Obviously tensions will rise when it comes to filming because it is quite fresh, it’s going to affect them as a couple, it’s going to affect the house, so I just think it’s important that the rest of the house have the same mentality as me where we keep it neutral and we’re just there to support one another.”
Nathan added that the cast have been in touch with Chloe and Sam, both 23, following the news of their split, and he explained that he doesn’t want to get caught choosing sides.
He revealed: “Obviously, I know what it’s like to go through a break up so as soon as I heard the news I contacted Sam straight away.
“I also contacted Chloe, and it’s not playing like devil’s advocate, it’s more of a case of being there and supporting them both, and respecting what they’re going through and how they handle it.
“It’s making sure I’m there as a friend and I’m there mentally for them both, so any of them need to talk about something, whatever they say to me will stay in confidence.”
His comments follow reports that Chloe doesn’t want to film scenes with her ex for the MTV reality show.
A source recently said: “Chloe has insisted she’s not going to continue filming scenes with Sam. She’s happy with him staying on the show because she can’t rule his life but she’s asked the producers to make sure he’s no longer in her scenes. With Chloe, it’s literally been a case of, ‘It’s him or me.’
“This has been really tough on them both but Chloe doesn’t want to dread going back into the show she loves just because of her ex. She’s adamant she can make it work, but she’s got to wait for the bosses to make their minds up first.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Collins has teamed up with Burger King to teach the nation how to eat Chicken Fries.
The former ‘TOWIE’ diva has joined forces with the fast food eatery to test out its latest menu item – which is now available to order on Just Eat – and she admitted she had “no idea” what to make of them.
After initially biting into the fries like a chicken leg and then overloading them with sauce, Gemma – who often refers to herself as “The GC” – settled on eating her BK food with a knife and fork.
She said: “Just Eat gave me the challenge to set the record straight on Burger King’s Chicken Fries.
“I had no idea what Chicken Fries were at first, were they a chicken shaped like a fry, a fry shaped like a chicken or a chicken and potato combo.
“But all is well as I do now, and they are delicious, perfect for lunch or dinner.”
Chicken Fries will be available for delivery across the UK from May 13-19 before launching on both Just Eat and in Burger King stores across the UK on May 20, and Gemma shot a promo clip pondering the different way to eat them to mark the occasion.

OHMYGOSSIP — Jess Shears is pregnant.
The ‘Love Island’ star and her husband Dom Lever – whom she met in the infamous villa on the 2017 series of the ITV2 reality show – have announced they’re expecting their first child together in a sweet Instagram post.
Jess posted a picture which included a polaroid shot of herself showing off her baby bump, while another showed Dom holding his own stomach, with a picture of their scan in the middle.
She captioned the snap: “The best is yet to come.”
Dom posted the same picture and wrote: “Living the dream.”
The happy news comes just months after the couple revealed they were keen to start a family.
Jess said in November: “We want loads of children, so we’re going to start trying very soon. We’re not in a rush but we love kids and can’t wait to be parents.”
The pair tied the knot in a secret ceremony in October, which was held on the Greek island of Mykonos in front of just 22 close friends and family members.
Speaking about their wedding at the time, Jess, 24, said: “We only had room for our closest friends and family. We’re planning a party in the UK when we’re home so we’ll invite Olivia Attwood, Sam Gowland and Chloe Crowhurst to that.
“I know there were reports that Olivia was going to be a bridesmaid but that was never the plan.”
While Dom, 28, added: “We really wanted an intimate wedding and we knew we couldn’t have had that in the UK.
“Going abroad meant we didn’t have any pressure to invite every Tom, Dick and Harry.
“As we were limited on numbers, we only invited people we see all the time.”
The couple couldn’t see the point in “hanging around” and waiting to wed because they know they’re right for one another.
Dom told the new issue of OK! magazine: “People said we wouldn’t last but now we’re husband and wife.
“We’re proof that when you meet the right person, there’s no need to hang around.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Kyle is “utterly devastated” following the cancellation of his show amid the death of one of its guests.
The 53-year-old presenter fronted the eponymously titled ‘Jeremy Kyle Show’, which was axed on Wednesday (15.05.19) after 14 years on screen following the death of Steve Dymond, who allegedly took his own life a week after taking a lie detector test on the programme.
And in a statement, Jeremy has said he’s been left “devastated” by the recent events, as he sent his “thoughts and sympathies” to Steve’s family.
In a statement to The Sun, he said: “Myself and the production team I have worked with for the last 14 years are all utterly devastated by the recent events. Our thoughts and sympathies are with Steve’s family and friends at this incredibly sad time.”
Earlier this week, the show was taken off air and all past episodes removed from the ITV Hub following Steve’s death, before it was later confirmed the programme would not be returning.
Carolyn McCall, ITV’s CEO, said: “Given the gravity of recent events we have decided to end production of The Jeremy Kyle Show.
“The Jeremy Kyle Show has had a loyal audience and has been made by a dedicated production team for 14 years, but now is the right time for the show to end.
“Everyone at ITV’s thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of Steve Dymond.
“The previously announced review of the episode of the show is underway and will continue.”
But the network won’t be cutting ties with Jeremy completely.
Carolyn added: “ITV will continue to work with Jeremy Kyle on other projects.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Nadiya Hussain had panic attacks “every few days” on ‘The Great British Bake Off’.
The 34-year-old TV chef has suffered panic attacks since the age of 10 due to the horrific bullying she experienced in primary school, and she has revealed that she was plagued with anxiety throughout her time on the amateur baking show, which she won in 2015, and admitted each week was a real “struggle”, especially as no one was aware of what she was going through.
Nadiya told BBC Radio 5 Live: “Every few days. It was very frequent. It was out of control. It was there and the truth is, as many panic attacks I was having during ‘Bake Off’, I was having the same amount at home, alone in my house.
“Nobody knew. Nobody knew about my panic attacks or my panic disorder.”
The author felt like her anxiety was just part of her “personality” because she was always “unhappy” and she is thankful to her husband Abdal Hussain for supporting her.
DJ Nihal Arthanayake asked Nadiya: “So that speech you gave, which inspired so many people at the end of Bake Off … was there something more specific you were talking about that perhaps those of us that didn’t know about your anxiety and panic wouldn’t have picked up on?”
To which she replied: “Yeah. I’ve spent most of my adult life being afraid because my anxiety has been part of my life for such a long time.
“It got to a point in my life where I started to believe that that was just my personality.
“I was just the person who was always unhappy, always not pleased, always anxious, always not quite fully involved. And I just felt that was part of my personality.
“I didn’t think I would ever win ‘Bake Off’. I certainly didn’t think I’d get on and when I did every week was a battle for me, every week I was having panic attacks, every week I was struggling, but I had my husband at home for support so I was very lucky in that sense.”
Nadiya was speaking about her BBC One documentary ‘Nadiya: Anxiety and Me’, in which she has detailed her battle with panic attacks and anxiety.

OHMYGOSSIP — Adam Thomas was rushed to hospital after dropping a weight on his face.
The former ‘Emmerdale’ star spent three hours in A&E after the heavy item landed on him, and joked he doesn’t know if it was worse having to be in hospital for so long with his brother Scott Thomas or the pain of the injury.
Sharing a picture of himself from his hospital bed sporting a nasty-looking eye injury, he added the caption: “Not sure that everyone knows yet but today I dropped a weight on my face !! … and then 3hrs in a&e with this guy @scottyspecial don’t know which one was worse haha but am glad he was there by my side x if you too have dropped a weight on your face please get in touch as it’s hard to talk to anyone about my experience unless you’ve actually been through it … (sic)”
Adam – who played Adam Barton in the ITV soap – also jokingly appealed to others who had incurred a similar injury to make themselves known so people know if they are “an idiot”.
He added: “I know your out there and I know your ashamed but it’s about time we spoke out and let others know that if your an idiot… gyms are dangerous places (sic)”
Adam received support from his brother, former ‘Coronation Street’ actor Ryan Thomas (Jason Grimshaw), who admitted that is the sort of injury he would incur.
He wrote: “I love you so much adam to be fair something I would do #idiots (sic)”#

OHMYGOSSIP — Gillian Wright didn’t shave her head for EastEnders’ Jean Slater’s cancer storyline because it “didn’t sit right” with her.
The 59-year-old star’s character recently had her hair chopped off after going through chemotherapy following an ovarian cancer diagnosis, but Gillian wasn’t keen to do away with her tresses because she has friends and family who have had to do so in real life.
When asked if she considered shaving her head, she said: “I did give that a lot of thought.
“But there were two main reasons I didn’t go down that path.
“I’ve got friends and family who are going through, or have gone through, treatment for cancer, and some of whom have lost their hair.
“And it just didn’t sit right with me to do this as a game of pretend.”
Gillian also decided not to shave her head for real due to continuity issues because she would’ve had to film Jean’s O2 climb scenes while wearing a wig if she had chopped off her locks, and admitted it may have been “a bit windy” at the top of the London structure.
She said: “One was logistics in terms of Rob Kazinsky, who plays my son [Sean Slater]. His availability meant we had to shoot that week’s storyline well early in the year.
“So all the things I did with climbing the O2 and all of that was done afterwards, which would’ve meant I would’ve had to wear a wig to look like me.
“It was a bit risky at the top of the O2 – a bit windy.”
Gillian spent five hours in the make-up chair when she was having her bald cap fitted for the scene in which Sean shaves his mum Jean’s hair, and she was “a little bit fidgety” sitting still for so long.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’, she added: “It was three hours in the chair and five for the one with the bald cap for the shaving scene.
“Three hours in the chair first thing in the morning is sort of doable, because you do have to sit very still.
“But the five hour one, we had shot a scene at 8.30 in the morning so I didn’t sit in the chair until 10.30 and then it was five hours.
“I found that quite hard. I was a little bit fidgety.
“In one of the scenes I was shooting with Lacey [Turner, Stacey Fowler], she arrived on set, we were in the back of the ambulance and every time I turned around she was just staring.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Winslet will star on the next series of ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’
The 43-year-old Academy Award winner – who took the prize for Best Actress for 2009’s ‘The Reader’ – is said to be in the UK filming her episode already, as she explores the secrets of her family’s history for the 16th series of the popular BBC One show.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: “Getting a bona fide film star to take part in ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ is a real coup for the makers of the show.
“There’s only been a handful of participants on a similar level, such as Sir Ian McKellen and JK Rowling, and she’s likely to top the bill of names in the new series.
“The programme continues to be one of the most popular shows on the Beeb and signing up genuine stars is proof of its ongoing appeal.”
The episode is likely to delve into her maternal grandfather, who got divorced and remarried – which was a huge scandal at the time in 1938.
He also married a woman 17 years younger while another of Kate’s relative, Robert Bridges, married his own cousin – nine years his junior – in 1851.
It was recently revealed the ‘Titanic’ actress has signed on to voice the titular character in the latest adaptation of classic equine novel ‘Black Beauty’, which was written by Anna Sewell in 1877.
Kate will be providing the voice of the titular horse, while 18-year-old Mackenzie Foy – who is best known for her work as Renesmee Cullen in ‘The Twilight Saga’, and as Clara in Disney’s ‘The Nutcracker and the Four Realms’ – will star as the lead.

OHMYGOSSIP — A ‘Love Island’ hopeful has claimed Mike Thalassitis’ ghost told her to apply for the show.
Sorcha Farnan, 18, has insisted the late reality star – who sadly took his own life in March aged 26 – appeared in her dream and “spoke about his death” while encouraging her to go into the villa this summer.
Adding that Mike’s ghost told her she was destined to be the next big thing during their spooky meeting, she told the Daily Star newspaper: “A few nights after Mike’s death he came to me.”
Sorcha – who has more than 5,000 followers on Instagram – also claims Mike later sent her another ghostly message through a medium, and admitted the experience has left her baffled.
She said: “I’ve never been so flabbergasted. I felt an energy take over me. I got flustered and went a bit red.”
Mike appeared on the ITV2 dating show in 2017 and passed away earlier this year.
It was recently revealed ‘Love Island’ aren’t planning to honour him on air during the upcoming series – which starts next month – with bosses instead choosing to remember him on ITV’s on-demand service.
A tribute will play alongside the 2017 series in which he starred, which will soon be available as a boxset on the ITV Hub.
An insider recently said: “It felt more appropriate to do it there.”
The news comes after it was claimed contestants will have to pass new mental health and STI tests to be accepted on this year’s series, following the death of Mike and fellow star Sophie Gradon, who passed away in 2018 at the age of 32.

OHMYGOSSIP — Malin Andersson has called for some “extraordinary aftercare” to be put in place on reality TV shows after ‘The Jeremy Kyle Show’ was axed.
The former ‘Love Island’ star – who appeared on the ITV dating show in 2016 – has questioned whether TV bosses are going to “wait for one more death”, axe all reality programmes, or substantially improve their aftercare to prevent further casualties.
She wrote on Twitter: “So Jeremy Kyle is permanently axed. Hmm.
“Do we have to wait for one more death before other shows are axed? Or can’t we just put in some extraordinary aftercare in place to prevent ANY deaths from occurring ever again. (sic)”
Malin’s comments come after ‘The Jeremy Kyle Show’ was axed yesterday (15.05.19) following the death of a participant.
And she recently called for ‘Love Island’ to take a break after former contestant Mike Thalassitis was found dead aged 26.
She asked her Twitter followers: “Do you think Love Island should air this summer? (sic)”
Malin then wrote: “I reckon the bad outweighs the good (sic)”
The 23-year-old star previously deemed the show’s aftercare “not enough” after the death of former contestant Sophie Gradon, who died by suicide in 2018 aged 32.
Malin said: “I don’t blame the show itself, because we asked to go on it, but I think the care received wasn’t enough.
“If someone is crying for help, like Sophie kind of did, and asked for help after it, with a psychiatrist or whatever. I think that they should have noted that and realised.
“We have psych tests before the show, to see if we’re fit to be in the villa. But afterwards, we need more support coming out.”
Following Mike’s death, Richard Cowles, creative director of ITV Studios, admitted contestants on the ITV2 dating show will receive more support and ITV will be “proactively checking in” with former ‘Love Island’ stars “on a regular basis”.
He wrote: “When something so awful happens we naturally enter a period of soul searching and ask whether anything could have been done. This review has led us to extend our support processes to offer therapy to all Islanders and not only those that reach out to us. And we will be delivering bespoke training to all future Islanders to include social media and financial management. The key focus will be for us to no longer be reliant on the Islanders asking us for support but for us to proactively check in with them on a regular basis … We work with an independent GP and a psychological consultant to provide an assessment of the physical and mental health of each of the shortlisted cast members and their suitability for inclusion.”

OHMYGOSSIP — MPs are to launch an inquiry into reality TV programmes after ‘The Jeremy Kyle Show’ was axed by ITV yesterday (15.05.19) following the death of a participant.
The Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee (DCMS) have announced plans to consider production companies’ duty of care to participants after the passing of Steve Dymond, who allegedly took his own life a week after taking a lie detector test on the ITV programme, and after two former ‘Love Island’ contestants died.
Damian Collins, DCMS Committee chair, said: “ITV has made the right decision to permanently cancel ‘The Jeremy Kyle Show’.
“However, that should not be the end of the matter. There needs to be an independent review of the duty of care TV companies have to participants in reality TV shows and the DCMS select committee has decided to hold an inquiry this summer into these issues.
“Programmes like ‘The Jeremy Kyle Show’ risk putting people who might be vulnerable on to a public stage at a point in their lives when they are unable to foresee the consequences, either for themselves or their families.
“This kind of TV featuring members of the public attracts viewing figures in the millions but in return for ratings, the broadcasters must demonstrate their duty of care to the people whose personal lives are being exposed.
“With an increasing demand for this type of programming, we’ll be examining broadcasting regulation in this area – is it fit for purpose?”
Jeremy admitted he has been left “utterly devastated” after the show’s cancellation after 14 years, and sent his well wishes to Steve’s family and friends.
He said in a statement to The Sun newspaper: “Myself and the production team I have worked with for the last 14 years are all utterly devastated by the recent events. Our thoughts and sympathies are with Steve’s family and friends at this incredibly sad time.”
ITV confirmed on Wednesday that production on the show has concluded.
Carolyn McCall, ITV’s CEO, said: “Given the gravity of recent events we have decided to end production of The Jeremy Kyle Show.
“The Jeremy Kyle Show has had a loyal audience and has been made by a dedicated production team for 14 years, but now is the right time for the show to end.
“Everyone at ITV’s thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of Steve Dymond.
“The previously announced review of the episode of the show is underway and will continue.”
This comes after some have called for ‘Love Island’ to be axed after former contestant Mike Thalassitis was found dead in March aged 26, and Sophie Gradon – who also appeared on the ITV2 dating show – died by suicide in 2018 aged 32.
