OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Elton John has lashed out at criticism over the casting of Taron Egerton in ‘Rocketman’.
The openly gay music icon – who is married to David Furnish – thinks it is “bulls**t” that straight actor Taron has been blasted for taking on the role of Elton in the biopic.
Speaking after watching the movie at the Cannes Film Festival, Elton told The Sun newspaper: “That’s all bulls**t, I’m sorry.
“If people don’t like it, review-wise, or it doesn’t make one dollar, it’s the movie I wanted to make and that’s all that counts. I can look back and say, ‘You know what, I love it. I can live with it’.”
The movie is a warts-and-all look at Elton’s past, including his issues with alcoholism, drugs and sex addiction and he doesn’t regret being open about his struggles.
He said: “No, I’m pretty open about things like that. When ‘Tantrums And Tiaras’ came out, it was the most honest documentary you could watch.
“With the film, and the book that’s coming out in the autumn, I’m as honest as I can possibly be. There’s no holds barred. I hope it inspires people to come out and I hope it inspires people to come off drugs.”
And Elton is thrilled that his songwriting partner Bernie Taupin — played by Jamie Bell – comes across as a “hero” in the biopic.
He said: “He comes out as, like, the hero — and that’s great because I am proud of our relationship. It’s extraordinary that we’re still together and we’re so close — this is a business, as you know, where people fall out very easily and we haven’t done that.
“There were times where we’ve drifted apart because it’s been necessary for him to do something else for a while and me to do something else.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Lily James feels “stressed out” that she’s being typecast.
The ‘Yesterday’ actress admitted she worries about how often she gets offered romantic roles or those of innocent women because she wants to be able to express all the different sides of her personality and skills as a performer.
She said: “It sometimes stresses me out that I’m being offered a lot of roles that fit that description because I have much more to offer than being confined to that ‘romantic girl’ box – I have many sides to my personality.
“I can get angry quite easily if things bother me… I want to be able to express my many different sides in all sorts of characters.”
But Lily has taken heart from advice she was given by her mentor, ‘Cinderella’ director Sir Kenneth Branagh.
She told Psychologies: “When I was working with Kenneth Branagh on ‘Cinderella’, he told me I must be patient and that I had a long career ahead of me and opportunities would open up in time.
“That advice keeps me from getting upset or worrying too much about being typecast.”
The 30-year-old star shot to fame playing Lady Rose in ‘Downton Abbey’ and went on to star in more historical productions, such as ‘War and Peace’, so she’s relieved to now be finding roles in more contemporary films.
She added: “It was a long time coming and I honestly couldn’t wait. I was starting to feel persecuted by corsets! I was lucky to have played those parts though it’s more that you don’t want people to think of you only in those terms.
“In this profession, it’s almost impossible to plan your work in advance- all you can do is wait and choose the best projects available. You’re dependent on circumstances.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Fassbender, Jamie Foxx and Peter Dinklage are in talks for Mel Gibson’s latest movie.
The trio are set to star in director Gibson’s remake of the violent Western ‘The Wild Bunch’, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Mel is co-writing the script with Bryan Bagby for the forthcoming Western film, a reboot of the 1969 Sam Peckinpah-directed classic which starred William Holden, Ernest Borgnine and Robert Ryan.
Gibson will also executive produce the Warner Bros. motion picture.
The original ‘Wild Bunch’ movie told the story of a group of outlaws who are looking for one final score before industry changes affect the American West in 1913.
The movie was controversial when it was first released because it was considered too violent by some, but the film was later praised for its multi-angle and slow-motion images.
Peckinpah, Walon Green and Roy N. Sickner’s script was also nominated for Best Screenplay at the Academy Awards, and the music was up for Best Original Score.
It’s a busy time for Gibson, who is on board to direct World War II Navy movie ‘Destroyer’.
He has also signed up to star in ‘Rothchild’ with Shia LaBeouf, which will be directed by ‘Stan & Ollie’ helmer Jon S. Baird.
The dark comedy about New York’s super rich will see Shia play Becket Rothchild, who hatches a plan to get back into the family he was banished from and reclaim his fortune.
There are nine Rothchild family members standing between him and his goal, including Whitelaw (Gibson), the family patriarch.

OHMYGOSSIP — Alexandra Cane’s mother is cancer free.
The ‘Love Island’ star took to Twitter to reveal that her mother Jan Mills has been battling cancer and undergoing chemotherapy for the past seven months but they are thrilled after discovering that she has gotten the all clear from her doctors.
An emotional Alexandra wrote on Twitter: “I’m so happy I could cry. So last year, when I came out of love island, my mums cancer tumour had grown… she’s been spending the last 7 months having chemotherapy, yesterday she got the ALL CLEAR. I love you so much ma @mammaj52. Time to live ya life girl!
“Chemotherapy is gruelling let me tell you, and I’m not the person who had to go through it. It really is a test of your strength. To anyone who has been through it or going through it… keep going and don’t give up.”
Alexandra and her mother are extremely close and the star has previously said they are best friends.
She tweeted in April: “Does anyone else wish their mum was the same age as them so they could grow old together as best friends orrrr just me?”
And Jan replied: “That’s the loveliest thing you have ever said to me!!!!! Love you all there is bubba!!!!!!!!!”
The 27-year-old star appeared on last year’s series of the ITV2 dating show and was coupled up with Dr Alex George until he ditched her days before the final.
However, she has praised the programme as a “positive” experience because it gave her back her body-confidence.
She said: “‘Love Island’ was really positive for me – it actually made me more confident in my own skin. I fell in love with the person I really am. That’s better than finding love for a few months isn’t it?
“Before the show I was so self-conscious about my body. I was bullied, fat shamed and body shamed at school – I was scared to go. I went for a consultation for a nose job at one point.
“Looking back it was ridiculous but at the time it was all-consuming. Now I realise it’s not the be all and end all of what I am about. I’ve learned to be fearless. On that show you are exposed. Everyone has an opinion about you suddenly. You learn to be thick-skinned.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Gorka Marquez has begged ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ bosses not to separate him from Gemma Atkinson.
The 28-year-old professional dancer wants show producers to pair him with a celebrity who is based near his home with pregnant Gemma, 34, in Bury, Manchester, so that he won’t have to travel away from her and their baby.
The show’s dancers are required to base themselves near their celebrity partners in order to ensure maximum training time.
A source told The Sun Online: “Gorka has pleaded with Strictly producers to put him with a northern-based star so he can be close to home.
“By the time the show is on, Gemma will have given birth to their baby and he doesn’t want to be too far from them.
“‘Strictly’ professionals are required to base themselves from Monday to Friday in the area where their celebrity lives.
“Obviously, if he’s in the south or another far-flung location, it will be struggle to get back to them both.”
Gemma and Gorka met on ‘Strictly’ in 2017 and will welcome their first child together this summer.
Gemma announced her pregnancy in February by sharing a picture of the couple’s two dogs, Norm and Ollie, who were wearing signs around their neck which read: “Guess what … mum’s pregnant. We’re going to be big brothers!”
Gemma captioned the post: “And what Amazing big brothers they will be! Myself & Gorks are beyond excited and happy and feel incredibly blessed to be meeting our new family member later this year. Baby Marquez!!! We love you loads already @gorka_marquez (sic)”
Dancer Gorka posted the same image of the pooches on his Instagram account and wrote a caption praising his gorgeous partner.
He wrote: “@glouiseatkinson Thank you for the greatest gift in life. Myself and Gem are beyond thrilled to be welcoming our new family member later this year! Baby Marquez. (sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sophie Turner treated ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ as a “fun little summer camp”.
The 23-year-old actress had to “step it up” when she reprised her role as Jean Grey in the upcoming ‘Dark Phoenix’ because the previous installment in the saga wasn’t as “challenging” as having to take centre stage this time round.
She told heat magazine: “I knew that I had to step it up. Because in the last movie, we were an ensemble – we didn’t really have much challenging work to do, so I was seeing the ‘X-Men’ movies as kind of like a fun little summer camp to go to with all my friends.
“And the fact that [producer] Simon Kinberg entrusted me with this character that is so loved and one of the most revered sagas in the comic book world, I was just really honoured to be able to play this role, because I know so many fans feel so passionately about the character.”
While Sophie feels “lucky” her character’s powers aren’t physical, unlike those of some of her co-stars she still enjoyed having cast gym sessions during filming breaks.
She said: “Luckily for me, Jean is telekinetic, so that means she doesn’t have to do much jumping and running. She can just sit there.
“Obviously, every single cast member has their trainers leading up to the production and then we try and work out every day during the production. It really does help you transform.
“So often, at times, we would have a trailer gym on set. At lunch time we would all just go and pump iron together. It was really fun actually. It really helped us to feel like superheroes.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Laura Dern felt a “moral obligation” to “get it right” with ‘Trial By Fire’.
The 52-year-old actress plays Elizabeth Gilbert, who became an advocate for Cameron Todd Willingham (Jack O’Connell) in director Ed Zwick’s true life tale and though she didn’t get to meet the playwright before getting into character, she was grateful that she engaged in a “great deal of correspondence” with her and was able to offer support and guidance on the story because of the added pressure of playing a real person.
She said: “There’s a moral obligation with a living person that you want to get it right.
“You know that they’re going to understand at some point that there is some license of invention because you’re having to presume how someone else feels, and sometimes even your family can’t know that. Liz Gilbert was patient [with that], thank god, and she’s also a playwright, so she really understands how it works, but she also understood my intent, Jack O’Connell’s intent and Ed Zwick’s intent.
“So, with that generosity, she opened her heart to me and we had a great deal of correspondence. It’s hard on her to travel, and we had never met; we had only had numerous calls and emails and Skypes and got to know each other in that way.
“Only after the film did I spend time with her in person. But she was amazing, and most notably, she gave myself and Jack, ultimately, all of the letters between she and Todd, some of which you hear in the film, to help us the track the relationship and how it developed and her fight to expose injustice.”
One of Laura’s biggest initial struggles with the role was the way Elizabeth was seen as just a “good person” so she was thankful that she was able to bring some “normality”.
She added in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter: “You know, it was my only problem with the script. And I only say this because Ed said it in an interview the other day, and I thought it was fair, that he and Geoffrey Fletcher have such respect for her and the way to pay homage to her, they felt, was to present the level of compassion she holds.
“But it was seeping into informing the scenes, and kind people do s***ty things, and noble people are complicated, and that’s the thing that interests me about acting.
“And so with Liz’s guidance, she let us go on a journey of mining some of her emotional life, her parenting life and her complicated and appropriate feelings in and around her own profiling of Todd.
“She learned about this program of letter-writing to people on Death Row, and as she said, which I thought was really funny, ‘It was one of those moments where I was like, “Okay, I’ll be a good person, I’ll be amazing and I’ll do this thing that’s an act of service to feel better about myself, or whatever people do.” ‘
“I love that she accessed, for me, a commonality to it. But then you’re inside it, and the individual becomes someone close to you.
“In Ed’s beautiful willingness to allowing that to evolve, we tried to find some commonality, some normalcy, to who she is, versus Mother Theresa.
“Because not only is she not, and didn’t want to be perceived as such, but the goal is to influence all of us toward a small act of kindness, because that may be all it takes to change lives, to change the justice system, to impact your own life. That’s definitely the hope.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth want to star in a remake of ‘The Bodyguard’.
The ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ co-stars have teamed up again on ‘Men in Black: International and they don’t want their partnership to stop there as they’ve been joking about the possibility of putting their own twist on the classic 1992 romantic blockbuster, which featured the late Whitney Houston as a pop star who fell in love with her security guard (Kevin Costner).
Tessa told Total Film: “He came in one morning at whatever time in the morning and he’s like, ‘The Bodyguard’ is such a good movie’ because he’d been watching it the night before.
“So yeah, we did joke about remaking ‘The Bodyguard.’ ”
While Chris insisted the pair “could never touch it”, Tessa suggested swapping roles to put their own stamp on the story.
She added: “We won’t. We’ll do a modern retelling, except this time, I’m his security guard. We’re still brainstorming that one. But there’s interest. Real, robust interest out there…”
Even if the remake doesn’t happen, the pair are very keen to explore their partnership on screen in many more movies.
Tessa said: “It used to happen all the time in Hollywood where you used to get these pairings of actors, that you like to see in a multitude of scenarios.
“We love that call back to that Old Hollywood idea where you got to follow these two actors through different things.”
However, the ‘Avengers: Endgame’ stars insist they won’t be portrayed as more than friends on screen.
Asked about the possibility of that happening in another ‘Men in Black’ film, Chris exclaimed: “No!”
Tessa agreed: “Nuh-huh. It’s against company policy. He’s a friend from work.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Tye Sheridan was “visibly afraid” when he had to embrace his ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ co-star Sophie Turner.
The 23-year-old actress – who reprises her role as Jean Grey in the movie – thinks the #MeToo movement is “awesome” but has also made men more aware of their behaviour and fearful of consequences, so she had to reassure her friend, who plays Scott Summers, that it was OK for them to get close during filming.
She said: “We have this intimate scene, I could see him visibly so afraid that I had to be, like, ‘Hey, it’s cool, we’re friends, it’s all good.’
“So you can see there’s a lot of terror. But it has to happen, that’s the price you pay. Give it time and people’s fear will lessen, but they will still be respectful, hopefully, that’s the dream.”
The ‘Game of Thrones’ star admitted she thinks there has been something of an overcorrection in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, leaving some people “too scared to huge each other”.
Asked if she thinks there’s been an overcorrection, she told the Sunday Times magazine: “At times. It happens with everything, there’s always an upside and a downside and I think the downside of it is that men can sometimes be a little scared to go up and hug women now.”
Meanwhile, when it comes to her own career, Sophie – who recently married Joe Jonas in a secret ceremony – hopes to emulate that of Gary Oldman.
She said of the ‘Darkest Hour’ actor: “He’s my real hero. He disappears into every role he does, you know very little about him and he’s f***ing awesome. His is a career that I would love.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Chloe Ferry and Sam Gowland have got back together.
The reality TV stars ended their 17-month romance earlier this month following a string of rows, but after spending time apart, they’ve had second thoughts and have agreed to try again.
A source told The Sun Online: “Chloe wasn’t impressed by his behaviour messaging other girls but she’s really missed him.
“Sam has been telling mates they’re giving things another go – she’s the love of his life and determined to prove how much he loves her.”
And friends are not surprised that the split wasn’t for good.
The insider added: “It was only a matter of time before they got back together.”
News the couple are back together will be welcomed by ‘Geordie Shore’ bosses as it was recently claimed Chloe, 23, had banned producers from making her film scenes with Sam.
A source previously said: “Chloe has insisted she’s not going to continue filming scenes with Sam. She’s happy with him staying on the show because she can’t rule his life but she’s asked the producers to make sure he’s no longer in her scenes. With Chloe, it’s literally been a case of, ‘It’s him or me.’
“This has been really tough on them both but Chloe doesn’t want to dread going back into the show she loves just because of her ex. She’s adamant she can make it work, but she’s got to wait for the bosses to make their minds up first.”
The brunette beauty announced she and 23-year-old Sam, whom she dated for just under two years, had gone their separate ways on Instagram.
She said via Instagram Story: “It hurts me to say this but me and Sam have gone our separate ways. We are still friends.”
It’s believed their relationship went sour after they began squabbling over money.
An insider said recently: “Sam got jealous that Chloe’s career was taking off and his wasn’t quite as hot. They’d constantly row about work. He wanted to make as much money as he could and retire in two years time, so was constantly looking for ways to monetise their relationship. Chloe just got sick of it and ended it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas has never been happier thanks to her new boyfriend.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge embarked on a romance with Daniel Taylor – who, at 44, is 14 years her junior – when they starred in panto in Liverpool together last year and she admitted she’s never experienced a love like they have together.
She told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “It’s hard to find somebody who’s compatible with you. I feel like I’ve come full circle and I’ve found somebody.
“It’s great to have found him after being single for so long. When we did our first job together he was like ‘Shirley who?’
“He’d never watched ‘Strictly’, knew nothing about me. It’s been a warm experience…
“Somebody once said to me, are you happy? I said what is happy? All I can say now is if this is what happiness is I’ve never experienced it.”
The 58-year-old dance expert has introduced Daniel to her family and they have all given her their seal of approval.
She said: “The whole family and my friends love him. He has the same profession as my son, Mark. They’re both actors.”
Meanwhile, Shirley is very excited to be preparing to move into a new home in London as she’s been waiting so long for the house to be ready.
She said: “I’ve been living out of a suitcase for two years. I move in in two weeks. The first thing I’ll do when I go in is sit and cry because it’s taken so long. Everything had to be rebuilt. It’s been a long process and I’ve felt homeless.
“I’ve got a boyfriend, I’ve got my home, I’m setting everything up.”
Shirley feels lucky to have landed her job on ‘Strictly’ in 2017 and hinted the next new face on the panel, who will replace departing ballerina Darcey Bussell, may not be a household name to British TV viewers.
She said: “I was so fortunate to get the job at a late age especially with no TV experience. The next person may be a surprise, like I was.”

OHMYGOSSIP — A ‘Doctor Who’ virtual reality experience has launched which puts you inside the TARDIS.
Thirteenth Doctor Jodie Whittaker stars in ‘Doctor Who: The Runaway’ in which you become the Time Lord’s companion.
The free VR special – which will be available on Friday (17.05.19) on the Oculus Store, Vive Port and on the BBC VR App – sees you wake up inside the TARDIS after a collision with a “ball of living energy” called Volta, described as a mix between a bomb and a “surly teenager”.
It’s up to the Doctor – with your help – to return Volta to his home planet, while a group of “galactic busybodies” tries to get hold of him for their own plans.
The adventure is also available for fans who don’t have VR headsets of their as part of the BBC VR Hub’s VR tour to local libraries across the UK.
There are two versions of the special episode available, with the first immersive interactive version is available from the Oculus Store and Vive Port for use on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive with a runtime of 13 minutes.
Meanwhile, the 360 degree video version is available to download from the BBC VR App for the Oculus Go and GearVR with a runtime of 11 minutes.
Jo Pearce, creative director for the BBC’s digital drama team, said: “Fans will find themselves at the centre of this wonderfully animated story, helped by the natural charm and humour of Jodie Whittaker, in an adventure that really captures the magic of ‘Doctor Who’.
“Viewers truly are in for a treat – for those who ever dreamed of helping to pilot the TARDIS, this is your opportunity!”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Jeremy Kyle Show’ team put “a lot of work” to care for its guests.
Professor Lyndsay Duthie – a former producer for ‘Trisha Goddard’ – has explained the amount of effort that goes on behind the scenes and defended those who have been working on the ITV show before it was cancelled this week following the death of guest Steven Dymond, who allegedly took his own life a week after taking a lie detector test on the programme.
Speaking on ‘Good Morning Britain’, she said: “The amount of work that goes into securing a guest, there’s a pile of paperwork to check if they’re able to do it.
“There’s a lot of work that goes into it, however, where does the duty of care end? Should producers be calling them every week for years? It’s how that part is managed.
“As well as appearing on the show, you then have a second shot when it’s screened, now it’s on social media also, so it’s out there.”
Lyndsay – who accepted the investigation production companies was “probably right” – added that Steven’s suspected suicide is “a really tragic event”, and conceded that “something has gone wrong in that checking process”.
However, she said: “But to stick up for the producing team a bit, there is work that goes into it and that duty of care.”
She also suggested the decision to axe the show happened “so quickly” and may have been done “to protect the brand”.
She explained: “It’s absolutely right to suspend the show. But to announce within 24 hours it had been cancelled, I think it’s to protect the brand, so there wasn’t a nationwide outcry for it to be culled. It’s kind of a smart move by ITV.”
Episodes removed from the ITV Hub following Steve’s death, before it was later confirmed the programme would not be returning.
Carolyn McCall, ITV’s CEO, said: “Given the gravity of recent events we have decided to end production of The Jeremy Kyle Show.
“The Jeremy Kyle Show has had a loyal audience and has been made by a dedicated production team for 14 years, but now is the right time for the show to end.
“Everyone at ITV’s thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of Steve Dymond.
“The previously announced review of the episode of the show is underway and will continue.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Patsy Kensit is returning to ‘Holby City’ to celebrate the medical drama’s 20th anniversary later this year.
The 51-year-old actress will be making her first appearance as Faye Morton since her departure in 2010 as the BBC One series celebrates the milestone.
It has also been announced that Luke Roberts, 41, will return as Joseph Byrne, a role he left in 2011 and the special episode will see the characters back in the hospital under dramatic circumstances which will include a reunion between Faye and her former love rival Jac Naylor (Rosie Marcel).
In a statement, Patsy said: “It’s a great honour to be asked back. As soon as I got the script I read it as fast as I could, which shows what a gripping episode it’s going to be.
“Faye has changed quite a lot, it’s very feisty and there are lots of surprises! It’s exciting to be working with Rosie and Luke again, we always had a fantastic time on set and that’s not changed.”
Luke also said: “For five years from 2005, ‘Holby City’ provided me with a community of artists and technicians who always made me feel at home, it was like a family. It’s been a joy to slip back into the surgical scrubs, see so many familiar faces and reconnect with the likes of Rosie Marcel, Patsy Kensit, Jaye Jacobs and Bob Barrett to name but a few.”
Holby City’s executive producer Simon Harper has promised viewers that they are in for a nostalgic treat with the pair’s return.
He said: “Holby’s 20th anniversary year continues apace with the return of these two huge, iconic characters after a decade away. It will be a particularly nostalgic and exciting treat for long-term viewers of the show as old ‘Holby’ collides explosively with the present.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Jeremy Kyle Show’ guest Steve Dymond reportedly applied to be on the show “300 times” before he died from a suspected suicide just over a week after taking a lie detector test on the ITV programme.
Following the news of Dymond’s tragic death, the daytime talk show was axed this week by ITV after 14 years on screen.
It has now been claimed by Aiden Dugdale, 20, who was at the taping of the show on the day Dymond appeared that the late guest had confessed to him and other audience members that he had made around 300 telephone calls to try and get on the programme.
Speaking to The Sun Online, Dugdale said: “He explained to us in the audience that he’d tried to come on the show before.

Dymond’s body was discovered at his Portsmouth bedsit last week, 10 days after he filmed the episode.
Host Jeremy Kyle has now come out to say he’s been left “devastated” by Dymond’s death and he has sent his “thoughts and sympathies” to Steve’s family.
In a statement to The Sun, Jeremy said: “Myself and the production team I have worked with for the last 14 years are all utterly devastated by the recent events. Our thoughts and sympathies are with Steve’s family and friends at this incredibly sad time.”
Announcing the end of ‘The Jeremy Kyle Show’, Carolyn McCall – ITV’s CEO – said: “Given the gravity of recent events we have decided to end production of ‘The Jeremy Kyle Show’.
“‘The Jeremy Kyle Show’ has had a loyal audience and has been made by a dedicated production team for 14 years, but now is the right time for the show to end. Everyone at ITV’s thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of Steve Dymond.
“The previously announced review of the episode of the show is underway and will continue.”
But the network won’t be cutting ties with Jeremy completely.
Carolyn added: “ITV will continue to work with Jeremy Kyle on other projects.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’ bosses have written a clause into contestants’ contracts vowing to support their families during and after the series.
The ITV2 show’s producers are keen to ensure the programme – which has come under criticism for going ahead following the deaths of former contestants Mike Thalassitis, 26, and Sophie Gradon, 32 – is still seen as “positive” show, and have made the addition for the first time as part of their duty of care.
A TV source said: “They’re taking their duty of care very seriously which is why they’ve written the support for families into the contract for the first time.
“‘Love Island’ is a fun show. They want to keep it positive.”
Islanders will also have mental health checks and there will be a psychologist on call at all hours of the day.
The source told The Sun newspaper: “They’ve put in measures to ensure all contestants have enough mental health checks and have a psychologist on call 24 hours a day.”
This comes after some fans questioned why the dating programme is still going ahead after ITV axed ‘The Jeremy Kyle Show’ this week after 14 years following the death of a participant.
Earlier this month, it was revealed ‘Love Island’ contestants will have to pass new mental health and STI tests to be accepted on this year’s series.
A source said: “Bosses want stars to be safe mentally and physically. Their biggest nightmare would be someone contracting an STI, so potential contestants must have several rounds of medical tests.
“Advance sessions with counsellors and psychologists have been ramped up to ensure that everyone can handle the fame.”
Following Mike’s passing, Richard Cowles, creative director of ITV Studios, admitted contestants on the ITV2 dating show will receive more support and ITV will be “proactively checking in” with former ‘Love Island’ stars “on a regular basis”.
He wrote: “When something so awful happens we naturally enter a period of soul searching and ask whether anything could have been done. This review has led us to extend our support processes to offer therapy to all Islanders and not only those that reach out to us. And we will be delivering bespoke training to all future Islanders to include social media and financial management. The key focus will be for us to no longer be reliant on the Islanders asking us for support but for us to proactively check in with them on a regular basis … We work with an independent GP and a psychological consultant to provide an assessment of the physical and mental health of each of the shortlisted cast members and their suitability for inclusion.”
