OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Call The Midwife’ series nine filming has begun.
The popular BBC One drama series is set to return to screens for a Christmas Special later this year, followed by a further eight episodes to be aired in 2020, and the production company have now started work on the hotly-anticipated next installment.
The ‘Call The Midwife’ Christmas special has already completed filming, and will see the cast take their work to the Outer Hebrides.
Led by Mother Mildred – played by Miriam Margolyes – they embark on a trip to the remote yet idyllic Scottish island chain, where residents have a desperate need for nurses and midwives.
After the Christmas Special, series nine will open with the funeral of Sir Winston Churchill in January 1965, and will continue with Nonnatus House entering a bold and innovative era.
Heidi Thomas, creator, writer and executive producer, said: “After a magical Christmas experience in the Hebrides featuring wild seas, stormy skies and some very disobedient sheep, we return to the harsher reality of city life in 1965. Society is changing fast and in series nine we will see Nonnatus House shaken to its foundations.”
The upcoming series – which was created and written by Heidi – follows a triumphant eighth series which averaged nine million viewers per episode, and saw the exploration of many areas of medical and social history, including the impact of disability, adoption, abortion, cot death, intersex representation, cervical smear tests and Sickle cell disease.
The 10th and 11th series of the show have already commissioned, which will keep the programme on air until 2022.

OHMYGOSSIP — Seth Rogen thinks his early movies will soon be “unwatchable” because attitudes in society are changing so much.
The 37-year-old actor rose to fame starring in outrageous comedy films such as ‘The 40-Year-Old Virgin’, ‘Knocked Up’ and ‘Superbad’, however, Seth and his long-time collaborator Evan Goldberg feel as though many of those movies will soon be “deemed regressive” due to people’s modern sensitivities.
In an interview with the new issue of GQ magazine, he said: “Evan recently was like, ‘By the time my kids are grown, all of our work will be deemed unwatchable.’ He’s like, ‘I have no doubt about it. I think entire parts of culture will just be deemed regressive and no one will f***ing watch it anymore, and there’s a good chance our movies will fit into that category.’ ”
The ‘Long Shot’ star does regret making certain jokes as he doesn’t want anyone to “feel bad” while watching his movies and now always takes care when writing new scripts to not include gags that could be deemed to be offensive.
He said: “I think if you actually care, then it’s easy. We do not want people to feel bad when they’re watching our movies.”
Referencing the repeated “how I know you’re gay” gag from ‘The 40-Year-Old Virgin’ – which was penned by Judd Apatow and Steve Carell – he added: “I’ve had people come up to me and be like, ‘That made me feel like s**t when I was in the movie theatre and everyone was laughing about that.’
“Like the, ‘How I know you’re gay,’ thing, it’s something people have been like, ‘It’s not fun to be in the theatre when people are laughing at that, knowing what they’re probably actually laughing at.’ And I don’t want anyone to have that experience watching our movies.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Quentin Tarantino says ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’ is his “most personal” film because it is inspired by his own childhood.
The 56-year-old director considers his highly anticipated ninth film – which is set 1969 Los Angeles and stars Leonardo DiCaprio as television star Rick Dalton, Brad Pitt as his long-time stunt double and Margot Robbie as movie star Sharon Tate – to be a “love letter” to the last moments of Hollywood’s golden age and he considers the story to be a “memory piece” about Los Angeles, the city where he grew up and that fuelled his passion for cinema.
Speaking about his film – which premiered on Tuesday (21.05.19) at the Cannes Film Festival – to Esquire magazine, he said: “[The film is] probably my most personal. I think of it like my memory piece.
“Alfonso [Cuarón] had ‘Roma’ and Mexico City, 1970. I had LA and 1969. This is me. This is the year that formed me. I was six years old then. This is my world. And this is my love letter to LA.”
DiCaprio, 44, agrees Tarantino that the movie is a “homage to Hollywood” and feels the movie explores a “seminal time” in American cinema.
He said: “Well, first off, the chance to work with Mr. Tarantino. And certainly this time period was fascinating. It was this homage to Hollywood. I don’t think there’s been a Hollywood film like this – and by that I mean a film set in Hollywood and about Hollywood – which gets its nails dirty, getting into the everyday life of an actor and his stunt double.
“That year, 1969, is a seminal time in cinema history as well as in the world. Rick and Cliff, they’re part of the old guard in Hollywood, but they’re also trying to navigate this new world of the hippie revolution and free love.”
The movie depicts the shocking real-life murder of Sharon Tate, the wife of director Roman Polanski (Rafał Zawierucha), at the hands of the Manson Family led by cult leader Charles Manson (Damon Herriman).

OHMYGOSSIP — Dan Aykroyd has written a ‘Ghostbusters’ prequel.
The 66-year-old actor co-wrote and starred as Dr. Ray Stantz in the beloved spooky comedy and 1989 follow up ‘Ghostbusters 2’ as well as acting as executive producer on the 2016 all-female reboot.
Now, Aykroyd has revealed that he’s written another ‘Ghostbusters’ spin-off which would show the three original paranormal investigators as teenagers in New Jersey, however, he confessed it is “years away” as sequel ‘Ghostbusters 3’ – which is being helmed by original director Ivan Reitman’s son Jason – has got to be made first.
Speaking in Toronto, Canada, during a promotional event for his Crystal Head vodka brand, he said: “I’ve written ‘Ghostbusters High’, where they meet in New Jersey in 1969. It’s on [Reitman]’s desk but that’s years away from the current project. But it’s a neat idea for a prequel. Imagine casting the three characters as teenagers!”
The former ‘Saturday Night Live’ star went on to praise Jason, 41, for the “beautiful script” he has penned for the third film and teased that some “familiar faces” will be returning.
He said: “Ivan Reitman’s son Jason has written a beautiful script, I can’t say too much about it but it’s going to get made and hopefully there’ll be some familiar faces.”
Aykroyd added that the third instalment of the franchise is “so different” from the first two films, and feels the movie is more “warm” and “heartfelt” than its predecessors.
He said: “It’s so different from even the first and second (film)… This just takes it to a new generation and a new direction that is so warm, heartfelt and indeed, quite scary when you confront some of the issues that are being discussed.”
Aykroyd starred as Dr. Ray Stantz alongside Bill Murray as Dr. Peter Venkman and Harold Ramis as Dr. Egon Spengler in the first ‘Ghostbusters’ film, whilst Sigourney Weaver appeared as Dana Barrett and Rick Moranis as Louis Tully.

OHMYGOSSIP — Ruth Langsford used to do Ouija boards with her friends at boarding school.
The 59-year-old TV presenter opened up about her own spooky experience during Wednesday’s (22.05.19) episode of ‘Loose Women’, revealing she once tried to contact the supernatural world using one of the spirit boards – which are used to communicate with the dead via numbers, letters and the responses “yes”, “no” and “goodbye” – but she ran out of her bedroom screaming when she heard a noise.
Speaking on the daytime talk show, Ruth said: “When I was at boarding school we did the Ouija board, and it was the tension, the build up, and we’d put a sheet up and over the bed and we’d all be on the bed.
“You just knew because somebody would move, we’d go, ‘You moved that Janet,’ and they’d go, ‘No I didn’t.’ Then there would be a noise and we’d all run out screaming, ‘Oh my god!’ and it’s almost like if you’re there, you feed off the expectation.”
The ‘Loose Women’ panellists were joined by Yvette Fielding, 50, on today’s show, and the TV presenter opened up about her scariest moment hosting ‘Most Haunted’, recalling she has had knives thrown at her on a visit to an estate in Leeds.
She added: “I do get scared, particularly when things mark you and hurt you and we’ve had proof of that [because] knives were thrown at us.
“There are plenty of nice ghosts, I’m just saying my personal belief is that there is life after death and I have had experiences and people I work with have seen something supernatural that they cannot explain.
“2001 we started [‘Most Haunted’] so it’s a very, very long time. You have to show it to me, I can’t believe in something if I can’t actually see it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘EastEnders’ stars cannot wait to find out what is coming up next in their scripts since Kate Oates took over on the BBC One soap.
Tilly Keeper – who plays Louise Mitchell in the show – says the whole cast are “really excited” for the upcoming plots, but admitted there has always been a “great atmosphere” on the show.
When asked how it feels to be under new management, Tilly said: “We’re just really excited for the new stories they’ve come up with.
“It’s been a great atmosphere always, but now every time we get a new script it’s like, ‘Oh gosh, what’s happening next?’ It’s so involved.”
Lorraine Stanley – who stars as Karen Taylor on the show – admitted she has “always had a great time” on the soap.
Speaking in a joint interview on ‘This Morning’, she added: “It’s always been great, the vibe, the mood. I’ve always had a great time.”
Tilly’s script confession comes just days after Davood Ghadami – who plays Kush Kazemi – admitted the stars of the soap are filled with excitement every time they are handed a new script.
He is so keen to find out what happens in the various plots he cannot resist heading straight to the “doof doof” moments to see each episode’s conclusion before reading his own lines.
Speaking in a backstage video on the BAFTA Twitter account, after the soap scooped the Soap and Continuing Drama prize at the ceremony, he said: “We sit there in reception and you can see us all opening the brown envelopes going, ‘What’s happening this week?’
“It is exciting every week.
“You look straight at the doof doof and work back.
“You look at everyone else’s storylines and see what everyone else is up to. And from that point on you cannot wait to get on set and film it and see how it all goes.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Suranne Jones doesn’t think she “would’ve been able to do” ‘Gentleman Jack’ without the show’s intimacy director.
The 40-year-old actress plays industrialist Anne Lister in the BBC period drama, but if she hadn’t received assistance to help portray the character’s intimate scenes with lover Ann Walker, who is played by Sophie Walker, she may have not taken on the part.
She said: “We were introduced to an intimacy director.
“We were very thorough and sensitive. They helped us work on that side of her relationship.
“If we hadn’t had all of that, I don’t think I would have been able to do the role. I really don’t.”
Anne was a no-nonsense English landowner who kept diaries chronicling her life in the 19th century, including her lesbian relationships, and a sixth of the documents were written in code.
Suranne threw herself into the role, reading countless books about Anne, and she even explored coal mines and fed pigs in Halifax, west Yorkshire, to get into character.
She said: “You kind of want a job, and then you actually go in and start to work on the scenes, and then you really want the job.
“And then you get scared, and go, ‘Oh god, just give me this job, please.’
“When I got the call to say yes, I said, ‘Give me everything.’ I then got about five books sent through, I got a dissertation sent through.
“We went stomping up to the coal mines. We fed some pigs on the way.”
Suranne also explored Shibden Hall in west Yorkshire, Anne’s ancestral home, where the TV series – which was written by Sally Wainwright – was filmed.
The ‘Doctor Foster’ star added to DIVA magazine: “I got some of Sally’s notes sent through. We went on a reccy and walked all the way round Shibden.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ITV have confirmed a number of changes to their duty of care processes ahead of the new series of ‘Love Island’, including “enhanced psychological support” and “a proactive aftercare package”.
The channel have announced a number of alterations after the ITV2 dating show came under fire following the deaths of former contestants Sophie Gradon, 32, and Mike Thalassitis, 26, and some have called for the programme to be axed after ITV dropped ‘The Jeremy Kyle Show’ following a participant death last week.
But the fifth ‘Love Island’ series is to go ahead on June 3rd, and ITV have today (22.05.19) confirmed there will be more detailed conversations with potential Islanders regarding the impact of participation on the show, and bespoke training for all Islanders on social media and financial management, which extends support to all Islanders following their participation.
Richard Cowles, creative director of ITV Studios Entertainment, said: “We’re very excited that ‘Love Island’ is back for another series.
“It is the nation’s favourite dating show and we have a fabulous new cast of young singles all looking for love and ready for a summer of romance in the iconic ‘Love Island’ villa.
“The format of the new series will be familiar to ‘Love Island’ viewers and we can’t wait to see how the new Islanders take to life in the villa and how relationships blossom.
“We hope that viewers will be hooked as they watch these young singles fall in love – hopefully it will be a summer to remember for both the Islanders and our viewers.
“Due to the success of the show our Islanders can find themselves in the public eye following their appearance.
“We really want to make sure they have given real consideration to this and what appearing on TV entails. Discussing all of this with us forms a big part of the casting process and, ultimately, their decision to take part.
“Also, as we are outlining today our welfare processes follow three key stages: pre-filming, filming and aftercare and we are increasing our post filming support to help Islanders following their time in villa.”
The ‘Love Island’ team have been working with Dr. Paul Litchfield, a physician and a former Chief Medical Officer, for the last eight months to “evolve and enhance” their duty of care processes.
He said: “I have reviewed Love Island’s duty of care processes from end to end and they show a degree of diligence that demonstrates the seriousness with which this is taken by the production team.
“The processes and the support offered to Islanders have necessarily evolved as the show has developed and grown in popularity.
“The aim throughout has been to identify vulnerabilities at an early stage so that necessary adjustments can be made or potential Islanders can be advised that the show is not right for them.
“A high level of professional expertise has been engaged to provide comprehensive support not only while young people are actively engaged with the show but also for an extended period when they are adjusting to life thereafter.
“Professional input is a key element in safeguarding the wellbeing of Islanders but the genuine caring attitudes I have observed from those who make the show are as important.”
‘Love Island’ launches on Monday June 3rd on ITV2.

OHMYGOSSIP — J. J. Abrams gave himself more freedom when he was making ‘Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker’.
The 52-year-old filmmaker co-wrote, co-produced and directed 2015’s ‘Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens’ which kicked off a new trilogy of movies set in a galaxy far, far away that also acted as sequels to George Lucas’ original three sci-fi films and the prequels.
When taking on the franchise following Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm, Abrams felt “beholden” to replicate the format of the other films but after coming back to the director’s chair for ‘Episode IX’ he decided to make the type of movie he wanted.
In an interview with the new issue of Vanity Fair magazine, he said: “Working on Nine, I found myself approaching it slightly differently, which is to say that, on Seven, I felt beholden to ‘Star Wars’ in a way that was interesting – I was doing what to the best of my ability I felt ‘Star Wars’ should be.
“This one felt slightly more renegade; it felt slightly more like, ‘You know, f**k it, I’m going to do the thing that feels right because it does, not because it adheres to something.’ ”
Abrams became the director of ‘Episode IX’ after Colin Trevorrow left the project in late 2017 due to creative differences.
He handed over control of ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi’ to Rian Johnson whose plot twists left many ‘Star Wars’ fans disappointed.
‘Lost’ writer Abrams hopes what people will get from the conclusion of the new trilogy is a satisfying end to the Skywalker saga which is centred around Anakin Skywalker and his journey to the Dark Side of The Force to become Darth Vader, his son Luke Skywalker, daughter General Leia and grandson Kylo Ren, who is Leia and Han Solo’s son Ben Solo.
Abrams said: “This trilogy is about this young generation, this new generation, having to deal with all the debt that has come before.
“And it’s the sins of the father, and it’s the wisdom and the accomplishments of those who did great things, but it’s also those who committed atrocities, and the idea that this group is up against this unspeakable evil and are they prepared? Are they ready? What have they learned from before?
“It’s less about grandeur. It’s less about restoring an old age. It’s more about preserving a sense of freedom and not being one of the oppressed.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Bryce Dallas Howard kept the bra she wore in ‘Rocketman’.
The 38-year-old actress plays Sir Elton John’s mother Sheila Eileen in the biopic about the legendary singer’s life and admitted that although she didn’t get to keep any of the dresses she wore in the film, she did swipe the underwear she wore while shooting.
When asked on BBC Radio 2 whether she got to keep any of the dresses she wore in the film, she said: “I wish no. I kept my brassier which was something.”
The ‘Jurassic World’ star – who is the daughter of Ron and Cheryl Howard – went on to explain that the movie benefited from having the music legend acting as a producer, and insisted he was “totally open and vulnerable” throughout the process.
She said: “Thank goodness that Elton John is here and alive and well and a producer on the movie.
“For me as someone who also comes from a creative family, I’m a third generation actor you kind of think about what if someone maybe did the movie of my dad and I would want to be a part of that and I would want him to do that.
“And people always assume that you would want to protect yourself but actually Elton walks this path of being totally open and vulnerable.”
Bryce “grew up” with Elton’s music but didn’t know exactly who he was until she watched the 1994 Disney animated film ‘The Lion King’ – which the musician co-wrote the soundtrack to with Sir Tim Rice.
She said: “I really grew up knowing Elton’s music not because I discovered it but because it was just because it was part of the kind of soundscape of my childhood. And then I only then realised that this music was all from the same person when I saw the ‘Lion King’.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Patsy Palmer is set to return to ‘EastEnders’.
The 46-year-old actress will reportedly reprise her role as the well-loved loud mouth Bianca Butcher in the autumn after five years away from Albert Square.
A source told The Sun: “Bosses are delighted to be getting Patsy back. She’s a real ‘…Enders’ icon and fans love seeing old faces return.
“She has yet to get her scripts but she will no doubt be at the centre of drama when she returns in the autumn.
“She starts filming in the next few weeks and can’t wait to get going again.”
Patsy’s return will see her alter ego reunite with her troubled daughter Tiffany (Maisie Smith) after she graced Walford with her presence in January 2018.
The flame-haired beauty made her debut on ‘EastEnders’ 25 years ago. She then quit in 1999 before returning for a second stint in 2008. She then left again in 2014.
Patsy has been involved in some of the biggest storylines the soap has ever aired and her character’s wedding to Ricky Butcher, played by Sid Owen, in 1997 pulled in more than 22 million viewers – one of the show’s biggest audiences.
The pair sparked rumours they were returning to the programme last year when Patsy shared a throwback picture of her and Sid on Instagram.
She wrote: “Looking forward to seeing this lunatic next week @sidowen .. friends for 30 years .. long time (sic)”
The social media upload prompted fans of Ricky and Bianca – who was known for constantly screaming “Rickaaaaaaay” after her hapless hubby during the 90s – to plead with the pair to return to the soap.
One Instagram user wrote at the time: “You two should make a visit to eastenders. Half your family are still there (sic)”

The former ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star took to her Instagram account on Wednesday (22.05.19) night to announce she is expecting her first child with her boyfriend Danny Flasher.
Alongside a photograph of her ultrasound and her partner planting a sweet kiss on her cheek, the 28-year-old beauty simply wrote: “Half me, half you.”
Chloe’s friend Lydia Bright was one of the first to comment on the news, writing: “Ahhhh so excited the news is finally out. So happy for you both, love you lots.”
Marvin Humes said: “Massive congrats you two! So happy for you!”
His wife Rochelle added: “Can’t wait to meet this beautiful baby.”
Ferne McCann wrote: “Wow congrats beautiful post (sic)”
Danielle Armstrong said: “Awe congratulations to you both.”
And Vogue Williams – who gave birth to her baby son Theodore in September – added: “Amazing news,” followed by three red heart emojis.
Chloe shot to fame in 2015 when she joined the ITVBe reality TV show as the on/off long-term girlfriend of Jake Hall.
The pair split and Chloe later found love with Danny after they met in 2016.
They then bought a house together in 2017 and have been loved up ever since.
Chloe said at the time: “He’s a really lovely person and I’m really loved up. He’s an absolute dream and such a nice boy. We’ve just bought a house together.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Emmerdale’s Louisa Clein will be leaving the soap for good.
The 40-year-old actress has had viewers gripped to the edge of their seats for months as her paedophile alter-ego Maya Stepney has been abusing and manipulating her 16-year-old student Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant).
Tuesday’s (21.05.19) double episode saw the predator deny she had been having a relationship with the school boy and, instead, accuse Jacob of having a crush on her but, although it looked like she may get away with her crime, Louisa has turned her back on the Dales as she was given a send-off by her cast mates last week.
A source told The Sun: “Louisa’s had fans glued to their seats with her brilliant performance. They’ve been wondering what the future might hold for Maya and savouring the potential for her to continue to feature.
“But it seems they’ll be disappointed. Her arrest for grooming Jacob spelled the end of a chapter on the soap — for Louisa and Maya.”
Although the storyline has been hard to watch, Barnardo’s have “applauded” ‘Emmerdale’ bosses for highlighting “disturbing” child sex abuse crimes.
After Maya’s arrest this week, Barnardo’s – a charity aiming to help young people affected by sexual exploitation – said: “Some ‘Emmerdale’ fans have been vocal about feeling uncomfortable with the grooming storyline, but we applaud producers for highlighting this very real and disturbing issue.”
Although Jacob was 16 when Maya had sex with him – which is above the age of consent – it is still a crime for an adult in a position of trust, such as a teacher, to engage in sexual activity with a person under the age of 18.
Javed added in his statement: “When a boy or girl turns 16, that doesn’t mean they can no longer be sexually abused or exploited. Children are children by law until they are 18. While 16 year olds are free to make choices about sex, teachers and other adults who abuse their positions of trust to groom young people under 18 are still committing crimes.
“Adult abusers like Maya in ‘Emmerdale’ exploit young people’s feelings of loneliness, their need for care and their desire to be loved, before abusing them. Barnardo’s support services see first-hand how this abuse can cause long term harm and affect young people’s attitudes to love, relationships and sex as they move into adulthood.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack Fincham wants to “pop back” to the ‘Love Island’ villa.
The former stationery salesman – who won the show with ex-girlfriend Dani Dyer last year – insists he isn’t jealous of the hopefuls who will be entering the famous house in Majorca in a few weeks, but he’d like to make a cameo appearance on the new series.
He said: “I’d never use the word ‘jealous’, it’s not in my vocabulary, but I’d love to pop back in there and say hello to everyone.
“Just for a couple of nights. It’s fun in there I love that villa.”
When it comes to offering advice for this year’s hopefuls, Jack urged them not to put on an act.
Asked his tips, he said: “Just be yourself. I know it’s a cliché, but don’t try and show yourself up.
“If you be yourself and relax, you don’t have to worry.
“But I’d also say, don’t sit there and wonder what’s going to happen next, you’ll never know.”
The 27-year-old star is amazed 12 months has passed by since he shot to fame on the show.
He said: “I can’t believe it’s been a year! One of the quickest years of my life.
“The new contestants are going to have the best experience – I can’t wait to watch it.”
Jack has been boxing since he was 14 and recently returned to the sport after embarking on a huge body transformation.
He said: “I’ve gone back to my old boxing trainer, who trained me when I was 14. People don’t realise but I’ve been boxing since I was a kid. I love it.
“Weights are fun but I’m better at training towards something, like a fight.
“So I’ve been back with all the boys that I used to train with, it’s something I’m really passionate about.”
Asked if he wants to turn pro, he added to heat magazine: “That’s the aim but it’s a long game. Me and my trainer are taking it slowly.
“When I’m ready then we’ll start looking for a fight date.
“At the minute, I just want to get as fit as possible. I’m only going in for a fight when I’m 100 per cent ready.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Aston says ‘Coronation Street’ is the “best place to work”, despite a number of stars announcing their exit.
Bhavna Limbachia (Rana Habeeb), Connie Hyde (Gina Seddon), Kym Marsh (Michelle Connor), Tristan Gemmill (Robert Preston), Faye Brookes (Kate Connor) and Lucy Fallon (Bethany Platt) all revealed within three months of each other that they will be departing the ITV soap .
But 25-year-old Sam – who has played Chesney Brown on the show since 2003 – says reports of a “mass exodus” have been “blown out of proportion” and insists the cast and crew are “well looked after”.
Speaking to OK! magazine, he said: “It’s been blown out of proportion.
“Anyone who’s leaving will genuinely say ‘Corrie’ is one of the best places to work.
“We get well looked after and the cast and crew are great. It’s a privilege to be part of such an amazing show.”
The actor – who wed girlfriend Briony Gardner earlier this month – says he’ll stay with the ITV show “as long as they want” him and thinks he could spend his entire career with the soap.
He said: “As long as they want me, I’ll stay. I can see me staying there my entire career if they’ll have me.”
Sam has been playing Chesney for so long fans confuse him with his alter-ego while his work friends even refer to him by his character’s name.
When asked if people just think he’s Chesney, Sam replied: “They do! Everybody calls me Chesney at work for a joke, too.
“Mikey [North] also gets called Chesney, as he gets mistaken for him. It’s great at the minute as they’re giving me good storylines.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Ofcom says “alarm bells were particularly rung” over the deaths of two ‘Love Island’ contestants, as well as ‘The Jeremy Kyle Show’ participant Steve Dymond.
The UK government-approved broadcasting regulator’s chief executive Sharon White has told MPs the media regulator has been “particularly concerned about what’s then happened to participants after the programmes”, and admitted there were worries after former ‘Love Island’ stars Sophie Gradon, 32, and Mike Thalassitis, 26, died.
She told the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee: “As well as the most recent tragedy with Steve Dymond, alarm bells were particularly rung with the two suicides, ‘Love Island’, some months after the broadcasts.
“What happens after transmission at the moment, there is a window between filming and transmission where there is advice on the media and social media and going often from being a private person to suddenly to being cast into a media world.
“I guess my question, which I am asking my team, is to think about whether that needs to be extended somewhat after transmission.
“So it is that sort of regime guidance we are thinking for reality shows and factual programmes.”
‘The Jeremy Kyle Show’ was axed last week following 14 years on air after it was revealed participant Steve was found dead 10 days after he appeared on the show.
Ofcom asked ITV to investigate the death in five working days, but the channel have requested “more time”.
Sharon added: “ITV have now asked for more time to complete their inquiries.”
Steve is said to have failed a lie detector test on the show, and Ofcom will now look into whether the polygraphs and other tools are a “fair treatment” for “vulnerable individuals”.
Sharon said: “We will be looking at lie detectors and other tools used by the production companies, as to whether … it’s fair treatment for vulnerable individuals.”
