Richard Blackwood lands first US acting gig

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Blackwood has landed his first acting role in the US.
The former ‘EastEnders’ actor – who played Vincent Hubbard on the BBC One soap from 2015 to 2018 – recently revealed he is turning his hand to fashion, with his own line, after departing Walford just over a year ago, and he is also looking to “crack America” with his stand-up comedy.
And now, Richard has confirmed he’s set to make his debut across the pond in a mystery TV series.
He wrote on Instagram: “Ladies and gentlemen o picture just words!!
“I have landed my first American role in a US series!!
“There will be a press release following shortly but I am through the moon.
“I truly can’t believe it and still in shock but god is good all the time!! (sic)”
Speaking about where his career is heading last week, he said: “I’m bringing out a clothing range and I’m trying to crack America, because that’s always been the one thing I wanted to do.
“The stand-up has been received really well in the US.”
While the 2019 ‘Dancing on Ice’ contestant has swapped Albert Square for America, Richard hasn’t ruled out a return to the soap one day.
Speaking in January, he said: “I’ve got a movie coming out, also there’s some other stuff that is huge.
“But ‘EastEnders’, I would never rule it out. They were good to me, so I’ve got love for them.
“But there is something else, which is quite big.”
When asked if he would return if the plot was right, he replied: “Of course, absolutely, I’ve got love for them.”
And last year, Richard admitted the door was “slightly ajar” about a potential Walford return.
He said: “It’s slightly ajar. I can see the guys in there and they’re like, ‘Richard, how’s it going?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, just checking. We good? My family still there?’
“‘EastEnders’ was really good for me. It’s a fast machine. It taught me you don’t have the luxury of taking the time to overly rehearse.
“It’s very quick but it gets you to that place of landing it straight away and trusting it.
“It’s like a master-class. I’m very fortunate.”
Vincent was last seen on screen in April 2018 when he was trapped in a car with one of evil Aidan Maguire’s (Patrick Bergin) cronies pointing a gun at him.

Love Island ‘line up more than 6 more bombshell arrivals’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’ have lined up more than six additional “bombshell arrivals” for the villa.
The ITV2 dating show will return on Monday (03.06.19), hosted by Caroline Flack, with 12 contestants already confirmed for the launch episode, but at least half a dozen more Islanders are set to head into the Majorcan paradise throughout the series.
An insider said: “The current line up isn’t going to stay the same for long – and the newbies are super-hot.
“They are being called ‘bombshell arrivals’ and viewers will see why when they see them.”
The mystery Islanders are said to be staying “in a secret location” ahead of their appearances in the villa.
The insider added to The Sun Online: “They are currently holed up in a secret location and will make their appearances as the series goes on.
“It’s going to make amazing TV and it’ll be a real twist for those who start the show.”
Among this year’s contestants are boxing champion Tyson Fury’s younger brother Tommy Fury, 20, who is also a boxer, but he prefers to be seen as his “own man” rather than the sibling of a famous fighter.
He said: “I’m my own man and I’ve said it throughout my whole boxing career.
“At the end of the day, if I see someone in there that I like that I feel I could have a connection with, I’ll try and pursue that without being an idiot to the other islanders.
“I’ll do the right thing at the right time and make my opinions known.”
‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star AJ Pritchard’s brother Curtis Pritchard is among the new Islanders.
He is also a dancer but was in the news in the new year after thugs beat him and AJ up in a nightclub.
Speaking about entering the villa, Curtis said: “I’m going to be me. I don’t have to act like anything, I don’t have to teach anyone how to dance, like my normal job! I can just be myself and have fun.”
The 12 contestants are made up of seven men and five women.
‘Love Island’ returns on Monday, airing on ITV2 at 9pm.

Sheridan Smith quits Adult Material

OHMYGOSSIP — Sheridan Smith has quit ‘Adult Material’.
The ‘Mrs Biggs’ actress was expected to portray British porn star Jolene Dollar in the Channel 4 drama, but the 37-year-old star – who is to appear in West End show ‘Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’, and BBC drama ‘The Barking Murders’ – has had to pull out of the role.
A Channel 4 spokeswoman told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: “Sheridan is not involved due to conflicting commitments.”
Hayley Squires will take on the role instead, and she will appear in the series alongside Joe Dempsie, Siena Kelly, Kerry Godliman, Rupert Everett, Julian Ovenden, and Phil Daniels.
The ‘I, Daniel Blake’ star said: “I am so excited and incredibly grateful to be playing Jolene Dollar, she is like the wildest dream. Lucy has written the most complex, multi-faceted and morally challenging story.
“Throughout each episode you are constantly forced to question your own judgement and beliefs and that makes for the very best drama. I’m very lucky to be part of a female-led crew and an incredibly talented cast.”
‘Adult Material’, created by screenwriter Lucy Kirkwood, is set in modern Britain and will delve inside the porn industry from the perspective of a woman who has been working in it her entire adult life, and has seen it grow from an illegitimate backroom enterprise to a mainstream and highly-profitable business.
Last year, Sheridan admitted she was planning to head to Amsterdam’s Red Light District to research the role.
She said: “I went to Amsterdam once. I want to go back for research.”

EastEnders gay bar to be called The Prince Albert

OHMYGOSSIP — EastEnders’ first-ever gay bar will be called The Prince Albert.
Kathy Beale – played by Gillian Taylforth – will soon be opening the doors to her new watering hole, which used to be called The Albert when owned by Kim Fox-Hubbard (Tameka Empson) and her husband Vincent Hubbard (Richard Blackwood) until they were forced to sell to evil gangster Aidan Maguire (Patrick Bergin).
The Walford matriarch will be seen deliberating about what to call the bar before eventually settling on the name, which is also the name of an intimate male body piercing.
Kathy was able to fork out for the lease on the building after Ben gave her a hooky necklace which she discovered was worth a considerable amount – so she sold the jewellery and set about plans for the bar.
The launch of the fictional drinking establishment will see ‘EastEnders’ become the first soap to have a gay bar among its permanent sets.
Kate Oates, the BBC’s head of continuing drama, previously announced plans to introduce more LGBTQ characters to Walford in the coming year.
She said: “I’m really interested in bringing some more LGBTQ characters in. Maybe we’ll have a new precinct for them as well?
“We’re looking at opening a new gay bar on the Square. It will be a super cool precinct where gay and straight characters can all just hang out and loads of stories can cross. It will be something really exciting, really fun and visual.
“It should be something really exciting, really fun, really visual and feel really true to multi-cultural London.”
What’s more, the soap is expected to hold its first Pride parade in early July, in a nod to the real-life London-based event which celebrates LGBTQ achievements.
A show source recently said: “It’s going to be a huge event on the square filled with joy.
“Kate thought that with Walford’s London identity it was a natural fit to tie in the two.
“But, as with any event on Albert Square, there is certain to be plenty of drama happening alongside the celebration.”

Mat Horne gives Gavin and Stacey teaser

OHMYGOSSIP — Mat Horne has teased fans about an “absolutely beautiful” ‘Gavin and Stacey’ scene in the show’s upcoming return.
The 40-year-old actor is to reprise his role as Gavin Shipman in the popular BBC sitcom, which will return for a one-hour special episode on Christmas Day (25.12.19), and he thinks audiences will love a touching scene between him and Joanna Page (Stacey West).
Mat told BBC Radio 5 Live: “There’s one scene in particular between me and Joanna (Page) which is absolutely beautiful.
“I was talking to Jo yesterday and we can’t wait to get going on it.”
The popular show first aired in 2007 and then concluded after three seasons in 2010.
And the ‘Bad Education’ actor also thinks co-writers James Corden (Smithy) and Ruth Jones (Nessa Jenkins) have done a wonderful job of creating a heart-warming special.
He said: “It’s really funny and it’s really heartwarming. I think there’ll be laughter and tears. Ruth and James have done an incredible job particularly considering they live in different countries.
“There’s very, very little I can give away – suffice to say he’s a little bit tired and he’s a dad with an almost grown up child.
“I think the audience will be pleasantly surprised and warmed by what they see … I have every confidence people are going to really like it.”
The ‘Catherine Tate Show’ star is “incredibly excited” about the cast reuniting, and his phone has really busy after James confirmed the special on social media.
He said: “My phone was on fire. We are all really surprised and shocked in a good way by the reaction.”

Love Island bosses say contestant relationships ‘will be tested’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’ bosses say relationships will be “tested” on the series – but insist they are “not a**eholes”.
Angela Jain, ITV Studios Entertainment managing director, insists the company’s duty of care is “always first and foremost for Islanders”, and says it is “entirely normal” to update aftercare procedures.
ITV confirmed a number of changes to their duty of care processes earlier this month after the dating show came under fire following the deaths of former contestants Sophie Gradon, 32, and Mike Thalassitis, 26 – and some called for the programme to be axed after ITV dropped ‘The Jeremy Kyle Show’ following a participant death.
Angela said: “The level of scrutiny we’re under has changed, it’s entirely normal to keep evolving those aftercare procedures – that in no way is going to impact on our editorial.
“That in no way is going to make us make the show differently.
“Our duty of care is always first and foremost for the Islanders. We’re not a**eholes. We really do care about the show and we really care about those Islanders. [The lie detector] – that’s one episode of 57 episodes. It’s not even a big element.”
The show’s bosses have vowed to make contestants – who this year include AJ Pritchard’s brother Curtis Pritchard – “fully aware that their relationships will be tested” once they head into the villa.
Angela added: “With regard to format twists, we’re trying to mirror real life. Relationships in real life get tested – that’s entirely normal. We are going to and the Islanders are fully aware that their relationships will be tested.
“How we do that … often we’re reacting to the narrative in the villa, but we try to be entirely flexible about that.
“But we will do that, because that’s what the expectation is from the audience, and from the Islanders.”
ITV recently confirmed they will give contestants “enhanced psychological support” and “a proactive aftercare package”, and said there will be more detailed conversations with potential Islanders regarding the impact of participation on the show.
What’s more, there will also be bespoke training for all Islanders on social media and financial management, which extends support to all Islanders following their participation.
‘Love Island’ returns on Monday (03.06.19) at 9pm on ITV2.

Harry Redknapp snubbed Strictly Come Dancing after trial

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Redknapp turned down ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ after a trial session.
The 2018 ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ winner was being eyed up for a spin on the ballroom floor, but he decided against it and insisted he has two left feet.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “The BBC bosses sent over a dancer to put me through my paces for a day, but it’s not for me … no chance.
“It’s a great show but I can’t dance to save my life, can I, Sandra?”
The 72-year-old former footballer and his wife don’t think he’s got what it takes, and the ex-Tottenham Hotspur manager explained he was so “hopeless” he wouldn’t even go on the programme if he had dance lessons from jungle co-stars Fleur East and Emily Atack.
He added: “Even if Fleur and Emily gave me some lessons, I’d still be hopeless … so that’s it for me now with reality shows, thank you.”
Harry admitted he did consider going on ‘Strictly’ before signing up for ‘I’m A Celebrity’, but his son Jamie – whose ex-wife Louise was runner-up in 2016 – didn’t think it was a good idea.
He said: “I told Jamie I was thinking of doing ‘Strictly’ and I don’t think he was pleased about it. And so I was offered the jungle at the same time and chose to do that.”
It turned out to be the right call as Harry was named King of the Jungle, although retired footballer Jamie previously admitted he wasn’t sure his dad would make it to the end of the competition.
He previously explained: “There have been moments where I’ve thought, ‘You’re on the edge’. People say, ‘Your dad is so lovely. He’s so funny’.
“But he can lose it sometimes. In a dressing room I’ve seen him lose it and start throwing things. I was a bit worried that after a week or two he might go, ‘I don’t know if I need this’. But he’s stuck it out.”

Amanda Holden says Simon Cowell saved her reputation

OHMYGOSSIP — Amanda Holden says Simon Cowell saved her reputation and image.
The ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge admitted before joining the panel in 2007 she was known mainly for her fling with ‘Men Behaving Badly’ actor Neil Morrissey while she was married to Les Dennis – but she says her role on the show gave her a second chance.
She told the Metro newspaper: “When I first joined I was in the mindset of the British public for being divorced and having an affair.
“It was all very negative and Simon gave me the chance to show people who I really am. There’s no hiding on that show.
“It’s given me a huge profile and everyone has seen I am one of them. It’s completely shifted my career … into hosting, DJ-ing, endorsements, brands.”
Amanda, 48, is grateful for Simon, 59, standing by her side after she shouted “f**k” before the 9pm watershed when she got spooked by The Haunting’s performance during the talent show’s live semi-finals on Monday (27.05.19).
She added: “I did say to Simon behind the scenes, ‘F**k, you are not going to sack me, are you?’
“He was like, ‘Don’t be stupid!’ I was more mindful of the fact that kids were watching.”
Amanda was led to a room underneath the stage and confronted by the “ghosts” of Agatha and Florence, and she swore when she was grabbed during the act.
Returning to the stage, she said: I just really want to apologise if I said anything. I said a really terrible word. I know there are kids watching, I know my kids are watching, so massive apologies. I can honestly say I feel terrified.”

Joel Kinnaman to return as Rick Flag in The Suicide Squad

OHMYGOSSIP — Joel Kinnaman will return as Rick Flag in ‘The Suicide Squad’.
The 39-year-old actor is set to reprise his role as the US special operations forces specialist – whose relationship with June Moone/Enchantress (Cara Delevingne) in the first film was the driving force of the plot – in James Gunn’s follow-up to the 2016 DC Comics ensemble movie ‘Suicide Squad’.
The ‘Altered Carbon’ star announced the news on his Instagram account where he shared an image of himself preparing for the role at a gun range.
He wrote: “Easing into that squad preppppp (sic)”
Joel will be joining returning cast members such as Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jared Leto (The Joker), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) and government official Viola Davis (Captain Waller).
Joel also joins Idris Elba, who will play a new character in the sequel, rather than replacing Will Smith as hitman character Deadshot as was first believed.
Producers on the film – which is thought to be a reboot of sorts rather than a direct sequel – and director Gunn decided to move on from the Deadshot character and axe him from the movie, with Idris instead taking on a new character.
As of the time of writing, it’s not known what DC Comics villain Idris will take on instead, but reports claim that the decision was made as bosses didn’t want to disrespect Will by replacing him.
The film is planned to start shooting later this year and is slated for release for August 2021.

Rory Douglas-Speed misses acting with fiancee Nadine Mulkerrin

OHMYGOSSIP — Rory Douglas-Speed misses acting with Nadine Mulkerrin on ‘Hollyoaks’.
The soap star – who plays Joel Dexter on the show – wishes he had more time with his real-life fiancee as their shared screen time has been cut down recently after his alter-ego split from her character Cleo McQueen last year.
He told Inside Soap magazine: “When we first started seeing each other, people would ask if we found it difficult being around each other all the time. But we just buzz off one another at work.
“It’s strange having different schedules now, although it’s good to get home and ask about Nadine’s day like a normal couple.
“I do miss it a bit, though, I won’t lie. She’s a star.”
Nadine and Rory are going strong after their engagement in December, but he revealed they “don’t have any plans yet” for their wedding day.
He said: “I actually keep forgetting about it until people stop me to say congratulations.
“We don’t have any plans yet – we’re just enjoying the romance of it all. No stress or panic, although I think I have the wedding all planned out in my head.”
While things are going well for the couple, the same cannot be said for their characters’ romance after Cleo McQueen and Joel Dexter surprisingly split earlier in 2018.
Nadine, 25, previously said the “best thing” about working on the soap was getting to hang out with her 26-year-old partner.
She gushed: “The best thing about working on the ‘Hollyoaks’ set is hanging out with the likes of Rory and everyone I get to work with.
“I’m always being challenged with brilliant storylines, so I consider myself a very lucky girl.”

ITV offering Corrie and Emmerdale placements for new initiative

OHMYGOSSIP — ITV is offering work placements on ‘Coronation Street’ and ‘Emmerdale’ as part of a new social mobility initiative.
The broadcaster has teamed up with skills body ScreenSkills for ‘First Break’, which aims to “demystify the TV industry” while finding pathways for people from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
The initiative will first let 100 candidates attend an Open Door taster event where they will learn the basics of working in television.
There will then be an application process for 40 places on a two-day boot camp to learn even more, which will include what to expect from a job in TV, set etiquette, information on broadcasters, and information on departments and chains of command.
It will also feature a studio tour and hands-on workshops in skills such as make-up or handling kit.
From there, the final round of the initiative will see 10 candidates chosen for five days of paid, full-time job shadowing on both ‘Corrie’ and ‘Emmerdale’, including technical, creative/practical, organisational and ideas-related disciplines.
Kaye Elliott, ScreenSkills’ director of high-end television, said: “First Break is aimed at encouraging, nurturing and supporting people to consider a career in television and give them the tools, knowledge and taster experience to take their first steps in.
“We believe it will be a practical way of making TV more accessible to those without contacts, opening the industry up to people whose life experiences are not currently widely reflected in the television workforce.”
And Trish Brady, head of HR, ITV Studios UK, added: “ITV has made a public commitment to improve society representation on screen, as well as increase diversity and inclusivity behind the scenes.
“Partnering with ScreenSkills on this important initiative is key to helping us get closer to ensuring our workforce represents our audience, it’s a big goal but one we hope ‘First Break’ will help us get even closer to fulfilling.”

Anita Dobson ‘inordinately proud’ of EastEnders role

OHMYGOSSIP — Anita Dobson is “inordinately proud” of her time on ‘EastEnders’.
The 70-year-old actress was part of one of the BBC One soap’s most iconic moments of all time when her character Angie Watts was served divorce papers by Den Watts (Leslie Grantham) on Christmas Day 1986, and the episode attracted 30 million viewers.
And Anita insists she doesn’t get tired of people asking her about her role on the show because it gave her a big break in the industry.
Speaking on ‘This Morning’, she said: “I wouldn’t be sitting here if it wasn’t for that, that gave me my break.
“I’m inordinately proud of it, of being Angie Watts.”
But Anita was written out of the show in 1988, just three years after joining the soap, because she wanted to try her hand at other roles.
She said: “I wasn’t young when I got the part and I figured that now I’d had that big opportunity [I could] get out there and see what you can do.”
Since ‘EastEnders’, Anita has gone on to star in ITV sitcom ‘Split Ends’, as well as several theatre productions, such as ‘Hamlet’, and film roles including ‘London Road’.
And the star admits she has talked about “slowing down” her workload, but hasn’t managed to do so just yet.
She said: “I have thought about it, I’ve talked about it to friends and they go, ‘Yeah, yeah … so, what are you doing next?’ ”
Anita previously admitted she had people following her home in cars and singing outside her flat window following the iconic ‘EastEnders’ Christmas Day episode.
She said: “I’m absolutely thrilled because to have made something that’s so iconic and that people are actually watching again – as well as a new generation – is wonderful and magical.
“I can hold it up as an achievement in my life.
“It was insane. People were following me home in cars, singing outside my window at my flat,
“I couldn’t go to pubs or supermarkets or walk down the street. It was bizarre but that was my life.
“How exciting I got to do that.”

Pamela Adlon joins Judd Apatow’s Pete Davidson comedy

OHMYGOSSIP — Pamela Adlon has joined Judd Apatow’s latest comedy about Pete Davidson’s life.
The 52-year-old actress-and-screenwriter is set to star in an unknown role in the untitled semi-autobiographical film revolving around the ‘Saturday Night Live’ comic, which is set for release on June 19, 2020.
The film’s script has been penned by Apatow, Davidson and Dave Sirus and Apatow will produce the picture for his Apatow Productions alongside Barry Mendel.
Pete, 25, grew up in Staten Island, New York, and lost his firefighter father in the September 11 Twin Towers terror attack, when he was just seven, and the comedian has previously admitted that the death of his parent has greatly influenced his stand-up routines – which he started at the age of 16.
Pete was also previously engaged to Larry David’s daughter, Cazzie David, 25, as well as pop superstar Ariana Grande, 25, who he popped the question to after just four weeks of dating.
Pamela joins Maude Apatow – the daughter of director Judd and Leslie Mann – who will play Pete’s on-screen sister in the movie.
Maude has previously featured in her dad’s early films including ‘Knocked Up’, ‘Funny People’ and ‘This is 40’.
Pamela is best known for the acclaimed FX comedy drama ‘Better Things’ – which she created, wrote, directed and starred in – which follows Adlon as a divorced actress who raises her three daughters on her own.
The series and Adlon’s performance have been praised, and Adlon was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2017 and 2018. The show received a Peabody Award in April 2017.
