Dexter Fletcher wants to direct a Madonna biopic

OHMYGOSSIP — Dexter Fletcher wants to direct a biopic about Madonna.
The 53-year-old filmmaker – who helmed both ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘Rocketman’, based on the lives of Freddie Mercury and Sir Elton John respectively – thinks it would be “extraordinary” to tell the Queen of Pop’s story on the big screen and insisted the film would be a “real rollercoaster ride”.
When asked whether he’d be interested in telling any other musician’s life story he told Gay Star News: “I’d do Madonna! That sounds like a real rollercoaster ride! It would be extraordinary.”
The ‘Eddie the Eagle’ director added that although the ‘#Material Girl’ hitmaker may not be “happy” about the movie he would still love to “tackle” the story of the cultural icon.
He said: “I don’t know how happy she’d be about that [idea] but what an extraordinary life that would be. If I was to tackle any other icon like that, it would be her. She’s extraordinary.”
Dexter’s statement comes after Madonna previously blasted efforts to make a biopic of her life.
The 58-year-old singer’s rise towards stardom is set to be the focus of a new movie backed by Universal, but Madonna has seemingly criticised the move, saying no-one else has the right to tell her life story but her.
Alongside an old photograph of herself, Madonna wrote on Instagram: “Nobody knows what I know and what I have seen. Only I can tell my story. Anyone else who tries is a charlatan and a fool. Looking for instant gratification without doing the work. This is a disease in our society.”
Madonna’s criticism came shortly after it was reported that Universal had acquired the rights to Elyse Hollander’s ‘Blond Ambition’ script, which charts the music icon’s efforts to make her first album and her early struggles in the entertainment business in the 80s.

James McAvoy reveals Dark Phoenix ending changed a ‘hell of a lot’

OHMYGOSSIP — James McAvoy says the ending of ‘Dark Phoenix’ had to be changed “a hell of a lot” because of similarities to another superhero film.
The 40-year-old actor portrays Professor X in blockbuster and revealed that the end of the ‘X-Men’ film – which has undergone numerous re-shoots after wrapping up principal photography in October 2017 – was drastically altered as it was too similar to another unnamed film in the same genre.
In an interview with Yahoo! Movies UK, he said: “The end changed a hell of a lot. The finale had to change. There was a lot of overlap and parallels with another superhero movie that came out … a while ago. And we had no idea that we were.”
Michael Fassbender – who plays Magneto in the franchise – jokingly added: “They had spies on set, and [they] basically stole our ideas.”
James added: “We were basically trawling through the source material it seems.”
Although re-shoots on the film were extensive and pushed back the release date of the film, Sophie Turner – who plays mutant Jean Grey who becomes the titular Dark Phoenix – believes it was a “good decision” by director Simon Kinberg.
She said: “I think it’s so much better for the re-shoots. It was just one of those things that was where the third act … you watch the first two acts and the third act just didn’t feel cohesive. We went back and we redid all of the third act, pretty much, and it was such a good decision. The third act is the best part of the movie for me.”
The movie follows Jean as she’s transformed into one of the most powerful mutants in the world following a life-threatening rescue mission in space.
Jean soon loses control of her powers and spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy Earth.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge hired to simplify Bond 25’s complex plot

OHMYGOSSIP — Phoebe Waller-Bridge was reportedly hired to work on ‘Bond 25’ to simplify the complicated plot about genetic engineering.
Earlier this year, the 33-year-old writer-and-actress – who penned the script of the hit assassin thriller TV series ‘Killing Eve’ and wrote and starred in the BBC comedy-drama ‘Fleabag’ – joined the writing team for the yet-to-be-titled film, which will be Daniel Craig’s fifth and most likely final outing as 007.
Now, it has been claimed that Phoebe was brought on board to make the complex plot for the story – which will explore genetic engineering and the Human Genome Project – “accessible” for cinema goers.
An executive connected to the film told the Daily Mail newspaper’s Baz Bamigboye column: “The movie’s premise is genetic warfare, which is fascinating but you gotta boil it down and make it accessible. That’s why Phoebe was hired. She has somehow made sense of it.”
Producer Barbara Broccoli previously revealed that she and Michael G. Wilson were desperate to hire the British writer to work on the film, helmed by Cary Joji Fukunaga.
She said: “There aren’t many people in the world bright enough to bring some humour to the topic of genetics and the Human Genome Project.”
Phoebe previously hinted that she would be trying to “sneak” some of her signature feminist humour into the script.
She said: “It’s really exciting. The film they’ve got is such an exciting story. It’s been a joy to work on. It’s mainly about making them feel like real people, which they do in the previous films. I think Daniel’s films have had really fantastic Bond girls and it’s about keeping that up.”
Asked whether she would be including her famous feminist humour in the script, Phoebe said: “Well, we’ll see, we’ll see what I can sneak in.”

Corrie’s James Burrows has become a dad

OHMYGOSSIP — James Burrows has become a father for the first time.
The ‘Coronation Street’ actor – who plays Michelle Connor’s (Kym Marsh) biological son Ali Neeson on the cobbles – revealed the exciting news this week as he shared a snap of himself and girlfriend Sophie Coates as they enjoyed some time to themselves after the arrival of their daughter.
Taking to Instagram, he captioned the sweet photo: “Out with my beautiful girlfriend @sophie_coates baby free for a few hours while nana and grandad look after her #happyness (sic)”
James and his significant other discovered they are to become parents for the first time last year, and in March the soap star said he was “so excited” to meet his baby girl.
He said: “I’m so excited to be having a daughter; I can’t wait to meet her now.”
The pair seem unlikely to have any issues choosing a name for their little one as Sophie admits they discussed baby monikers on their first date, and it only took the pair a month to get pregnant.
She said: “We’d only recently said we’d properly start trying. And a month later we fell pregnant.”
But James admits he would’ve loved to have popped the question by now.
He said: “I’d liked to have got engaged before now. I was going to ask Sophie in Australia when we were visiting my family last November but then we found out we were expecting.”
James took to Instagram last October to confirm he and Sophie were expecting, and admitted they are “over the moon” to find out she is pregnant.
He wrote: “Me and my beautiful girlfriend @sophie_coates are over the moon to announce that we’re having a baby. We can not contain our excitement we are so so happy x (sic)”

Although Annie isn’t nominated, her co-stars including Nadine Mulkerrin (Cleo McQueen), Nathan Sussex (Buster Smith) and Talia Grant (Brooke Hathaway) are on the shortlist for best actress, villain and newcomer respectively.
‘Hollyoaks’ is also in the running for the best single episode category – ‘Where do I belong?’ – while its football abuse storyline has also earned it some recognition and a chance to take home a prize.
Meanwhile last year, Annie – who became the first-ever transgender person to play a regular transgender character in a leading UK soap when she joined the soap four years ago – heaped praise on the team for “writing important LGBT+ stories” and also investing in their characters “100 per cent”.
She said at the time: “One final thing. I’m proud of @hollyoaks. Big time proud. Not only fantastic entertainment, but the most supportive environment in front of, and behind the camera. Writing important LGBT+ stories without needing to trumpet it from the rooftops & investing in their characters 100% (sic)”

X and Jonathan Goodwin goes through to Britain’s Got Talent final

OHMYGOSSIP — X and Jonathan Goodwin have made it through to the ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ final.
The masked magician and the dare devil have become the final two acts to win a place in Sunday’s (02.06.19) live final of the ITV talent competition after they were crowned the victors during the fifth live semi final on Friday (31.05.19) night.
X was the first to secure his place in the final after he impressed the judges when he managed to prove the connection between hosts Ant and Dec by giving the former an electric shock on the bottom, which led to the latter leaping from his chair and clutching the same spot on his backside – despite nothing touching him.
He then asked Simon Cowell to pick a word from a list – in this case he chose “hope” – and instructed Amanda Holden to scroll to the first post shared on his Instagram account back in April. The photograph showed Simon standing in front of the sign “hope” with X lingering in the spooky background.
His mysterious skill dazzled the viewers at home and he was sent straight through to the next round after winning the overall public vote, while Jonathan went up against dance act Libby and Charlie in the judges’ vote.
While Alesha Dixon and David Walliams voted to send Jonathan through to the final, Amanda was impressed that the dance duo only had two days to get their routine ready after they were brought in as a reserve act.
Simon refused to be the person to shatter someone’s dream so sent it through to the deadlock, meaning the original public vote had to decide the second finalist.
The public had voted for Jonathan – who managed to dodge crossbow bolts controlled by a bottle of water while blindfolded in his performance – in second place shortly behind X, so he will now perform again on Sunday in the live final.
He said: “I can’t believe it.”
When asked whether he already has in mind what he’ll do for the final, Jonathan said: “It’s more dangerous than what I just did and way way bigger.”
X and Jonathan will join Thursday’s semi-final winners Ben Hart and Mark McMullan, as well as elderly singer Colin Thackery, comedian Kojo Anim, comedy singer Siobhan Phillips, teen magic group 4MG, police and dog duo Dave and Finn, and energetic children’s choir Flakefleet Primary School.

Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger set for X Factor return

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger are set to return to ‘The X Factor’.
The music manager and the pop star have both enjoyed two previous stints on the panel of the ITV popstar search show and are now in “advanced talks” to return for a third time, according to The Sun newspaper.
Louis, 66, previously revealed he was hopeful about a return but wanted Sharon Osbourne to make a comeback with him.
Asked about the possibility of returning to ‘The X Factor’, Louis confessed: “I’m speaking to Simon. Let’s see.
“Sharon would be great. She’s burnt a few bridges, but that’s what’s good about her – she has an opinion. She’s never boring or predictable.”
Sharon’s hopes of returning to the show appeared to end in 2018, when she said she’d “put a f***ing brick” around Simon’s neck and then “throw him over”.
However, Louis is confident that Simon and Sharon – who previously starred together on the talent show – can rebuild their professional relationship.
He explained: “She was only joking. It was all panto talk. They will make up. I’m going to mediate between them. I’ll do anything necessary.”
Louis also praised Simon, explaining that fame and success hasn’t changed him as a man.
Louis said: “He’s never changed. Only thing that has is his face.”

Octavia Spencer says her and Tate Taylor have a special connection

OHMYGOSSIP — Octavia Spencer says she and director Tate Taylor share a special connection.
The 47-year-old actress has been friends with the filmmaker for 25 years and revealed she loved working with him on their upcoming film ‘Ma’ because they both have a “mutual trust” between them.
Octavia told website ‘Hey U Guys’: “Tate and I met as PAs in Mississippi on ‘A Time To Kill’. When we moved out here we became roommates but I worked on everything, all of his short films.
“The only film I didn’t work on with him was ‘A Girl On The Train’. So we’ve worked together a lot more than people know.
“When you have someone who has your best interest at heart and its mutual we trust each other, he trusts me as an actor, I trust him as a director and writer. I feel fortunate that I get to have that type of work collaboration.”
The pair have also worked together on films such as ‘The Help’, ‘Get on Up’ and ‘Pretty Ugly People.’
Their latest project – which also stars Diana Silvers and Juliette Lewis – tells the story of a lonely woman (Octavia) who befriends with a group of teenagers and invites them to party at her house.
However, as strange events start unfolding, the true intention of their host is revealed and the youngsters discover she is actually a killer.

She said: “He said, ‘I have a horror film for you,’ and I said, ‘Let me stop you, because black people always get killed in the first 15 minutes.
“He said, ‘Not only are you not getting killed in the first 15 minutes — you get to do the killing.’ I said, sign me up!”

Sir Elton John slams censorship of Rocketman

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Elton John has slammed Russia for censoring his biopic ‘Rocketman’.
The movie musical features a number of gay sex scenes, including one where Elton loses his virginity to his manager, John Reid, and the 72-year-old openly gay star is horrified that Russian movie distributors have decided to cut the affectionate same-sex moments from the movie.
Elton and the filmmakers said in a joint statement: “We reject in the strongest possible terms the decision to pander to local laws and censor ‘Rocketman’ for the Russian market, a move we were unaware of until today.
“Paramount Pictures have been brave and bold partners in allowing us to create a film which is a true representation of Elton’s extraordinary life, warts and all.
“That the local distributor has edited out certain scenes, denying the audience the opportunity to see the film as it was intended is a sad reflection of the divided world we still live in and how it can still be so cruelly unaccepting of the love between two people,” it read. “We believe in building bridges and open dialogue, and will continue to push for the breaking down of barriers until all people are heard equally across the world.”
Russia’s Culture Ministry told news agency TASS: “The Russian Culture Ministry issued no recommendations concerning the removal of any scenes from said movie, the decision was made solely by the distributor.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, at a Moscow preview of the film five minutes were cut and the closing credits were changed to remove references to Elton’s life with his husband David Furnish and their two children.
Russian film critic Anton Dolin also revealed in a Facebook post that “all scenes of kisses, sex and oral sex between men have been cut from the movie.”

Lucy Pargeter praises Duchess Meghan

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Emmerdale’s Lucy Pargeter has praised Duchess Meghan for revealing her post-baby bump.
The royal welcomed son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor with husband Prince Harry on May 6 and the Duchess didn’t try to hide her figure when she appeared at a photocall days later.
Lucy told The Daily Mirror: “Thank goodness, Meghan didn’t disguise her bump, she was the reality of what happens – you still have a tummy!”
Lucy also insisted that her children are more important than having a perfect body.
The 42-year-old actress welcomed twin girls with her partner Rudi Coleano in 2017 after undergoing IVF and although her body now looks different to how it did before she had kids, Lucy says she is happy that she can show “the reality” of someone who has had children.
She said: “I’d rather be the reality of someone who has just had a child than the unrealistic version some people portray.
“I don’t look how I used to – there are a few things I’m not happy with – but right now my children are my priority and I come second.
“I don’t do the gym. I don’t have time, and if I finish work I’d rather play with the kids for half an hour, lift the two of them up and do my arms that way.”
Last year Lucy revealed how “thankful” she was to be cleaning baby sick off her bedroom floor, at the same time as her ‘Emmerdale’ character was losing a baby.
The star said she is even more grateful for her twin girls, who she refers to as “twirls”, after shooting a traumatic storyline in which her alter-ego Chas Dingle’s baby Grace was alive for just 20 minutes after being diagnosed with bilateral renal agenesis.
She wrote on Twitter: “I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has watched tonight’s epp. I was cleaning sick up off my bedroom floor from one of the #twirls at the time , but knowing what was going on on screen I was thankful to be doing it … ” if that makes sense ” I hope it was
“Respectful of anyone who has been through anything close …. and makes people hold their children close and be thankful for the gift we have been given …. thank you x x x (sic)”

Adria Arjona: Working with Jared Leto was once in lifetime experience

OHMYGOSSIP — Adria Arjona says working alongside Jared Leto in ‘Morbius’ was a “once in a lifetime experience”.
The 27-year-old actress has opened up about being on set with the ‘Suicide Squad’ actor – who plays the titular Spider-Man vampire villain in the much-anticipated blockbuster – and the star revealed that she has learnt a lot from him because he takes his job “very seriously” and is always well “prepared”.
She told Collider: “Working with Jared was a once in a life time experience. He takes his job so seriously. “I really appreciate that.
“It made me feel really sh**ty about my process. It was really nice to have an actor who is really so prepared.”
Daniel Espinosa is directing the project, and Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Lucas Foster are set to produce the upcoming movie.
Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless have written the script for the film, which tells the story of a scientist who ended up with vampire traits, such as a thirst for blood and fangs, after attempting to cure himself of blood disease.
Meanwhile, Arjona insisted that she doesn’t “get scared” when she goes into an audition and reads a script because she never has any expectations about landing the role.
She added: “Going in to read or fighting for these characters… For me I don’t get scared because I never think they will give into me.
“I am very specific with how I prep before auditions and for the movie itself and do my work. But I go in thinking ‘Woah, I’m going to go for it’ but they probably won’t get it to me.
“And then when they do, I think on the first day of every production I’ve been crying for an hour because I just get so scared.”
Morbius first appeared in comic ‘The Amazing Spider-Man #101’, and the character went on to land his own series, ‘Morbius, the Living Vampire’, which spanned from 1992 to 1995.
And the ‘Triple Frontier’ star thinks fans are going to “really like” the upcoming film because “not a lot of people know” about the villain biologist.
She said: “I think people are really gonna like it. I think it’s a character not a lot of people know about and I think that’s really interesting part about the new movie.
“We get to introduce this whole world I think people are really gonna like that!”

Caroline Flack defends Love Island

OHMYGOSSIP — Caroline Flack has defended ‘Love Island’ after Jameela Jamil hit out at the lack of body diversity on the show.
The ‘Love Island’ host insisted she admires Jameela’s campaigning on body image but says the ‘Good Place’ actress is wrong about the show.
She told The Sun newspaper: “She’s always criticised the show. I wonder if she’s actually watched it, because it isn’t about what you see on face value.
“I’m a massive fan of Jameela and what she stands for. I’m not in any way putting her down, I really like her.
“Of course, people will look at things on face value and judge them, but the show is so much more than that, it really is.
“And you can only cast a show on who’s right for it, in a relationship sense. It’s a dating show. You can only choose out of the people that apply.
“They’ve just got to be right in that moment, they don’t cast it because of what they look like, it’s who’s in the right moment.”
Jameela is not the only star to slam ‘Love Island’ with former ‘TOWIE’ star Lucy Mecklenburgh also hitting out.
She tweeted: “Sorry to 2 b negative as so many are super excited about Love Island.
“Just to be clear I’m not body shaming them for being this size/shape but why not mix it up a bit!! but y are all the girls size 6-8 & all the guys have a six pack?”

Chantelle Connelly ‘nearly died’ during childbirth

OHMYGOSSIP — Chantelle Connelly “nearly died” giving birth to her son Ricardo.
The 29-year-old ‘Geordie Shore’ star welcomed her first child earlier this week via an emergency caesarean section earlier this week but has opened up about her traumatic labour.
She told The Sun Online: “I had been having contractions for a couple of days and throughout the night they were getting worse and worse, I couldn’t handle the pain but when I went to the hospital I was only 2cm dilated and they said they couldn’t give me an epidural until I was 4cm.
“I went back two hours later, crippled in agony with the pain and they decided to give me an epidural and break my waters.
“The next thing, it just went pear-shaped. My mum and partner, Lee, were like: ‘Chantelle, are you okay?’ – all I could remember is that I felt like I was going to sleep.
“My mum is a nurse and knows exactly what the monitor was saying, my blood pressure had dropped to around 60, my mum said I could have gone into cardiac arrest, that is what I was slipping into.”
“The doctors all came running in and flushed my system to get the epidural out, I perked up a bit but then the baby’s heartbeat was dead low and they needed to get him out straight away.”
And she revealed that doctors raced to deliver her son as the baby was “deteriorating”.
However, they managed to deliver Ricardo safely and Chantelle couldn’t be happier.
She said: “He’s the most beautiful little thing ever, he literally hurts my heart he is that perfect.”

Mindy Kaling’s personal connection to Late Night

OHMYGOSSIP — Mindy Kaling felt that only she could tell the story of ‘Late Night’.
The actress, writer and producer was extremely passionate about her new movie, which stars Dame Emma Thompson as talk show host Katherine Newbury who hires Kaling’s character Molly as a diversity hire to join her entirely white male writing staff, because it is something she has experiences in real life.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: “I wanted to tell this story because I felt like it was a story that only I could . I felt like if you’re lucky enough to find a story that really resonates for you and excites you and [you] might be one of the only people who can do it, you should do it. So I was like, ‘Oh this is great,’ and the writing of it was so fun and easy.”
Co-star Ike Barinholtz says Hollywood is making progress and five or 10 years ago the movie would have featured a male lead rather than a female one.
He explained: “Five years ago this movie is made, the Emma character is played by Robert De Niro or something. For Mindy to be able to write it with this vision of this young woman trying to break into this older woman is a story that I don’t know, it wouldn’t have caught on as easily 10 years ago.”
Mindy previously revealed that when she first got into show business she was shocked by the blatant lack of diversity she saw in the workplace.
She said: “When we started on the film, I thought, OK, things are different now. But then I met the first African American female writer on a late-night talk show and she was only hired in, I think, 2016. And these shows are mainly made in New York City! I mean, not having an African American woman until 2016 in New York, that’s hard to do.”
And Mindy thinks people often only work with others who are the same race as them because people “feel comfortable” with people who look similar to them.
She said: “I think there’s such pressure when you’re creating a show to keep it on the air that people only hire those who they feel comfortable with, and for a lot of people that’s people who look exactly like them.”

Brian May defends artistic licence in Bohemian Rhapsody

OHMYGOSSIP — Brian May has defended the artistic licence used in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.
The Queen guitarist insisted that the Freddie Mercury biopic was not a documentary but an attempt to tell the story of the late frontman “as a human being”, and the 71-year-old musician argued that obsessing over incorrect facts in the movie is a “waste of breath”.
In an interview with MOJO magazine, he said: “It’s an attempt to portray Freddie Mercury as a human being. So an argument about whether he should have a moustache at a particular time is a waste of breath.
“The moustache is in the wrong place in documentary terms, but for telling the story we want to tell it’s in the right place.”
The legendary singer died of AIDS-related bronchial pneumonia in 1991 at the age of 45 and one controversial scene showed Freddie informing his follow band members, Brian, Rodger Taylor and John Deacon of his illness before their famous Live Aid concert, when in reality he didn’t reveal the news until much later.
However May has argued that he and Fox bosses “took liberties” in order to best tell the singer’s story without adding “another hour of screen time”.
He said: “Yes but to tell it that way would have required another hour of screen time. So we took liberties. Or rather the film-makers did.
“I learned this about film-making: you carry a story with you and you treasure it, but when you agree to sell it, it’s not yours anymore.
“Fox own this film, lock, stock and barrel, but they always treated us with great respect. Sometimes we’d say ‘You can’t do that’ and they’d say ‘Okay we won’t’ and other times ‘Yes we can because this is the story we all agreed to tell.’ ”
