Happy Gilmore actor Christopher McDonald says sequel is in development

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Happy Gilmore’ star Christopher McDonald has claimed that a sequel is in the works.
The 69-year-old actor played antagonist Shooter McGavin in Adam Sandler’s 1996 sports comedy film and has revealed that the star has come up with a script for a follow-up.
Speaking on the US sports podcast ‘The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima’, Christopher said: “I saw Adam about two weeks ago, and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this.’
“I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How about that’, and he shows me the first draft of ‘Happy Gilmore 2’.”
McDonald continued: “I don’t wanna be a liar, but he did show me that, and I thought, ‘Well, that would be awesome.’ So, it’s in the works. Fans demand it, dammit!”
‘Happy Gilmore’ tells the story of Sandler’s titular unsuccessful ice hockey player who discovers that he has a talent for golf and competes in a tournament to raise money and save his grandmother’s house.
Happy’s unorthodox behaviour on the golf course irritates the arrogant Shooter and Christopher enjoyed playing a character that audiences “love to hate”.
He said: “I’m kind of beside myself. I remember going to the first screening when the movie came out, and nobody seemed to be really loving Shooter.
“The best way to play a bad guy like Shooter McGavin is to uplift the lead guy, in a smarmy kind of way.
“It’s just a blast to play that kind of stuff and I enjoyed it so much. People love to hate the Shooter, and I love that.”
McDonald also lavished praise on “freaking funny” Sandler, who has recently been acclaimed for more serious roles in ‘Uncut Gems’ and ‘Spaceman’.
The ‘Thelma and Louise’ star said: “Adam’s just killing it out there as you know. I saw his latest Netflix comedy show and I was just laughing at everything. He’s so freaking funny.”

‘It wasn’t what fans were hoping for’: Ernie Hudson was underwhelmed by the female-led Ghostbusters film

OHMYGOSSIP — Ernie Hudson was “disappointed” with the female-led reboot of ‘Ghostbusters’.
The 78-year-old actor made a cameo appearance in Paul Feig’s movie that featured Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones in the main roles but acknowledged that the picture didn’t strike a chord with fans of the franchise.
Ernie told The Independent newspaper: “Fans were really invested in the story and the characters, and I think it was disappointing. I enjoyed the movie. But I think it wasn’t what fans were hoping for.”
The star admits that he was puzzled by Feig’s decision to reboot the supernatural franchise and thinks he should have made a continuation from the original films – which has subsequently happened with flicks like ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’.
Ernie – who stars as Dr. Winston Zeddemore in the series – said: “Look, I’m a fan of Paul Feig, so I have nothing negative about him to say.
“Other than: I don’t quite understand why you do a reboot, you know what I mean? Just make another movie.”
Hudson has returned as Zeddemore in the new ‘Ghostbusters’ film and is impressed with the way that Sony has developed his character in the four decades since the original movie.
He said: “Sony is not the same studio it was 40 years ago and they’ve really stepped up and given some dimension to the character. Credit to Sony for being so open to hearing my feelings, because in the first one – they didn’t.”
Ernie explained that he is open to a return in more ‘Ghostbusters’ movies and hopes his alter ego can be like Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
He said: “I’d love for Winston Zeddemore to be the Nick Fury of the ‘Ghostbusters’.”

Ralf Little had ‘no idea’ he would be on Death in Paradise for so long: ‘Huge responsibility!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ralf Little felt a “huge responsibility” to the nation when he joined ‘Death in Paradise’.
The 44-year-old actor first appeared as Detective Inspector Neville Parker in the ninth series of the hit BBC drama in 2020 but bowed out of the show altogether on Sunday (24.03.24) and has now admitted that he had “no idea” he would spend so long with the character as he thanked the cast, crew and viewers for their support over the years.
He said: “My time on Saint Marie has come to an end – what an end! New adventures await Neville, and he got to sail away into the sunset with his best friend. Who knows what happens for them next! I want to say an enormous thank you to everyone who watched and supported the show when I arrived four and a half years ago.
“Coming into a series beloved by millions was a huge responsibility and I had no idea whether viewers would take to my interpretation of Neville’s character, and indeed to me.
“It was quite a relief that the response has been overwhelming, and it’s been an absolute privilege and a pleasure to bring Neville Parker to all of you and to share his quite profound journey with you. “I can’t thank you all enough for the support over the last four and a half years. ”
The ‘Royle Family’ star described the job as one of the “most magical and profound” he has ever done and “cannot wait ” to see what is coming up next on the show.
“It’s been one of the most magical and profound experiences of my entire life. The team that makes ‘Death in Paradise’ – the producers, writers, directors, crew, guest cast, and my magnificent co-stars – they know what they’re doing, and the future is in good hands. I can’t wait to see what happens next. It’s been the ride of a lifetime.”
The Caribbean-based series will return later this year for a fourth feature-length Christmas special, followed by a new series in 2025,
Tim Key, Executive Producer for Red Planet Pictures, said: “Joining a successful show like ‘Death in Paradise’ as the lead is a daunting and risky prospect, but Ralf’s confidence and talent shone through from day one and the audience response to Neville and his journey has been amazing. I can’t thank Ralf enough for everything he has brought to the show, on and off screen, and wish him all the very best for the future.”

Dame Deborah James would’ve been ‘so proud’ of Catherine, Princess of Wales, says her family

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Deborah James would have been “so proud” of Catherine, Princess of Wales for her “courageous” cancer announcement, according to her family.
The 42-year-old royal – who is married to Prince William and has Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and five-year-old Prince Louis with him – has been absent from public duties since January and announced on Friday (22.03.24) evening that she is undergoing “preventative” chemotherapy for cancer.
Now, the parents of the late journalist – who died in 2022 at the age of 40 following a five-year battle with bowel cancer – have sent their “love” to the royal family and commended the princess for speaking out.
Heather, 66, and Alistair James, 68, told The Sun newspaper: “Kate, William and their family are in our thoughts, and we send all our love from our family to theirs.
“Deborah would be so proud. The Princess of Wales has shown incredible courage in speaking out so publicly about her treatment.
“It takes huge bravery to do so, but her bravery will help millions of cancer patients and their families face this horrible disease.
“What’s more, in being so open and honest, Kate will undoubtedly encourage many more people who are living with potential symptoms of cancer, to seek medical help. In doing so, she will save lives.”
Heather and Alistair added that their late daughter would want to send the Princess of Wales a message of “rebellious hope”, in a nod to her famous mantra that became the slogan associated with her campaign work.
They said: “We know if Deborah were here to send Kate a message, she would tell the Princess of Wales to hold on to rebellious hope.
“Deborah was a firm believer in the power of hope, and given how many times she beat the odds to survive, rebellious hope became her mantra.
“We have no doubt her positive mindset helped her keep going, and gave us five years of precious memories together.”
Former deputy headteacher Deborah rose to fame following her diagnosis when she began hosting the BBC Radio Radio 5 Live podcast ‘You, Me and the Big C’ alongside fellow activists Lauren Mahon and the late Rachael Bland.
She then began raising awareness for the disease through her newspaper column for The Sun and worked extensively with the ITV1 programme ‘Lorraine’.
By the time of her death, she had raised millions for Cancer Research through the Bowelbabe fund.
Just one month before she passed away, Deborah was awarded a Damehood for services to charity and cancer awareness, and Prince William made a special visit to her home to present her with the honour.
Meanwhile, Catherine announced her own battle with cancer during a televised address to the nation following weeks of speculation on her whereabouts.
She said: “I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you personally, for all the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding whilst I’ve been recovering from surgery. It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family. But I’ve had a fantastic medical team who’ve taken great care of me for which I’m so grateful.
“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London. And at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous.
“The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation on cancer had been present.
“This of course, came as a huge shock. And Wiliam and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.
“As you can imagine, this has taken time, it has taken me time to recover for major surgery in order to start my treatment.”

Linda Nolan says people must apologise to Catherine, Princess of Wales over conspiracy theories

OHMYGOSSIP — Linda Nolan has insisted people need to apologise to Catherine, Princess of Wales for creating false theories about her health.
The 42-year-old royal – who is married to Prince William and has Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and five-year-old Prince Louis with him – has been absent from public duties since January and announced on Friday (22.03.24) evening that she is battling a form of the disease.
Now, singer Linda, 65, – who is battling cancer herself – argued that those who had mocked the princess or theorised her whereabouts during her extensive absence from the public eye- like Kim Kardashian – must apologise to her after revealing she is “preventative chemotherapy” for the disease.
During an appearance on ITV’s ‘Good Morning Britain’, she said: “Of course they should say sorry.
“But, you know, sorry is an easy word to say sometimes and they may be doing it because other people are doing it.
“They should never have even thought it in the first place, to put down lies and horrible words. Sorry doesn’t cut it sometimes.”
Catherine released a video message on Friday (22.03.24) where she revealed she was in the early stages of preventative chemotherapy following her visit to hospital for abdominal surgery in January.
Former ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ star Linda was initially diagnosed with stage-three breast cancer in 2005 before overcoming it a year later, but in 2017 she was told that she had a form of incurable secondary cancer, which spread to her hip in 2020, and then to her brain last year emphasised that the short video was “perfect” in showing others suffering from the disease that there are not alone.
She explained: “I thought it was perfect. I’m suffering myself and I listened, and I took everything in, and she’s so right for someone who has been diagnosed.
“Hope – you’ve got to have hope and people around you that love you.”
The Nolans singer – who lost her sister Bernie to breast cancer in 2013 – then reflected on the royal’s decision to disclose her cancer battle.
She said: “I think she did right. I think we all wondered what type of cancer it was. I think she did well, in the fact that she came out and told us when she didn’t have to.
“Who says they have to tell us their life story? They are doing their jobs.
“If she wants to keep it secret and her treatment secret, then that’s how she’s going to handle it and good luck to her.”
Hollywood actress Blake Lively, who joked about the photoshopped image of Catherine and her family, has since apologised to the Catherine.
Taking to Instagram, she said: “I’m sure no-one cares today but I feel like I have to acknowledge this. I made a silly post around the ‘photoshop fails’ frenzy, and oh man, that post has me mortified today. I’m sorry. Sending love and well wishes to all, always.”

Rhod Gilbert feels ‘lucky to be here’ after cancer diagnosis

OHMYGOSSIP — Rhod Gilbert has admitted he’s “lucky to be here” after being diagnosed with cancer.
The 55-year-old comedian – who announced he was battling stage four neck and head cancer in June 2022 – appeared in ‘The Great Celebrity Bake Off: Stand Up To Cancer’ alongside ‘EastEnders’ star Danny Dyer, BBC radio host Yinka Bokinni, and eventual winner Leigh Francis, and opened up about the “frightening” reality of living with the disease.
During the programme, he said: “For me its quite emotional to be here because the fact is I’m lucky to be here at all. I realised when I got cancer, I’d been plodding along thinking, ‘Other people got cancer.’
“One in two of of us are going to get cancer in our lifetime and that’s pretty shocking and quite frightening really. Things like this that raises money for the research that goes into that treatment are amazing. I’m living proof.”
The ‘Taskmaster’ star previously admitted that he struggled to “speak and breathe” during the early days of his cancer battle.
Speaking in a pre-recorded segment for the National Comedy Awards, which were held in aid of Stand Up 2 Cancer, he said: “I couldn’t speak or breathe and I was postponing and cancelling tour shows, I had terrible spasms in my face and a lot of tightness in my muscles.
“Couldn’t get to the bottom of it, turns out after a biopsy of this lump in my neck that I have something called head and neck cancer, cancer of the head, sounded pretty serious.”
The ‘8 Out of 10 Cats’ panellist then joked he was “p***** off” after being diagnosed with cancer, and assumed he would have “life-long immunity” from the disease after spending ten years as a patron of Velindre Cancer Centre.
He said: “I’ve led five fundraising treks all over the world, I do stand-up comedy nights to raise money, I hosted quizzes … it’s been a big part of my life for the last ten years, so imagine my surprise when I was diagnosed with cancer.
“Which p***** me off no end, because I thought I’d have life-long immunity! Apparently not.
“Apparently you’re just as likely to get cancer even if you spend your time fundraising for a cancer hospital. Anyway, I did get it, and it turns out it can come for anybody.”

Bradley Walsh’s Blankety Blank recommissioned for two more series

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Blankety Blank’ has been recommissioned for two more series.
The classic game show – which sees two contestants match the answers of as many of the six celebrity panellists as possible on fill-in-the-blank statements – had been hosted during its initial run by both Terry Wogan and then Les Dawson from 1979 until 1990 before being briefly revived by Paul O’Grady as drag alter-ego Lily Savage in 2001 but ‘The Chase’ star Bradley Walsh took over for the most recent comeback in 2021, and it has now been revealed confirmed that the programme will run for a fourth and fifth series.
Speaking on the recommission, Bradley said: “I tell you what, there isn’t a show quite like ‘Blankety Blank’ – it’s absolutely brilliant fun from start to finish.
“The celebrities will come up to me after a record and tell me how much fun they had filming, but more importantly, so do the contestants. These wonderful people come on to the show wanting a great experience and boy do they get it – because let’s be honest, they’re not there for the prizes are they?!”
Some of the most recent celebrity contestants to take part in the series include ‘Dancing on Ice’ judge Oti Mabuse, ‘This Morning’ stars Eamonn Holmes, Josie Gibson, and Alison Hammond and ‘Loose Women’ panellist Judi Love.
Series four and five of the revival – which will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer – will both feature 10 episodes and applications for members of the public to take part are now open.
Charlie Irwin, Managing Director of Thames (a Fremantle label), said: “It’s been a huge privilege to be part of the team in charge of bringing ‘Blankety Blank’ to new audiences. We are thrilled with how it’s been received and are so excited to make more for the BBC. We genuinely love this show and filming it is an absolute joy.”

Cole Sprouse slams ‘risk averse’ film industry

OHMYGOSSIP — Cole Sprouse works with first-time directors in response to “risk averse” Hollywood.
The 31-year-old actor has starred in the films ‘Lisa Frankenstein’ and ‘I Wish You All The Best’ from directorial debutants Zelda Williams and Tommy Dorfman respectively and thinks that the movie industry is a better place when “fresh perspective” is introduced.
In an interview with Collider, Cole said: “I think the industry’s become really risk averse. Super risk averse. I find that the introduction of fresh perspective is getting more and more rare, and so I am always willing to work with first time directors.
“Obviously there needs to be a level of trust, like Zelda and Tommy are my friends. I have an existing language developed with them that makes me feel comfortable.”
The ‘Riverdale’ actor added: “But I think the industry as a whole would stand to benefit pretty greatly from putting some financing and some trust into young original screenplays and visions, and then stick with them and cultivate them. I think that would be really awesome.”
Spouse thinks that studios are worried about taking risks and only green light the same types of films that will guarantee financial success.
He explained: “IP is king right now. And with these huge budget movies that have a ton of risk, if they don’t smash the box office, I think (that) has created a lot of insecurities with larger studios.
“So for me, I’m always like, how do I help? How do I assist first time directors or creatives or writers or actors to get more interesting perspective and projects over the line?
“I think it’s really important. I think all of us have to make a real concentrated effort towards it.”

David Dastmalchian was surprised to be offered lead role in Late Night with the Devil

OHMYGOSSIP — David Dastmalchian thought it was a mistake when he was offered the chance to play the lead role in ‘Late Night with the Devil’.
The 48-year-old actor stars in the horror flick as the 1970s talk show host Jack Delroy but had reservations about taking the part in the movie from sibling directors Colin and Cameron Cairnes.
David told The Hollywood Reporter: “I looked at the log line and said, ‘Which lead?’ There’s no way anybody thinks I’m the guy to play a late-night talk show host.
“There’s a lot of roles that I can imagine myself slipping into: Bond villain, Sith Lord, cult leader, creepy suspect number 17, but charming, witty, funny talk show host?”
David doubted that he would be able to do the part justice but had an “incredible experience” working with the Cairnes brothers and is looking forward to the rest of the world seeing the film.
The ‘Oppenheimer’ actor recalled: “I was like, ‘There’s no way I can pull this off, but I am going to sure as hell try.’
“It was one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever been handed as an actor, and being in the hands of these two incredible hard-working filmmakers, it was just this wonderful safe space on a stage in the middle of Melbourne, Australia.”
Dastmalchian added: “I could get so vulnerable and do all the things I’ve learned as an actor to try and manifest something here.
“So it was an incredible experience, and from day one of filming, I was already excited about sharing this movie with the world. And now I’m finally doing that.”
David revealed that he “spent hundreds of hours” studying 1970s talk show hosts for his portrayal of Delroy.
He said: “I spent hundreds of hours. I’m not exaggerating. From the time that I said yes, I had about three months, maybe longer.
“The Cairnes brothers sent me a bunch of footage that they accumulated of Don Lane. If you’re not familiar with Don Lane, he was the Johnny Carson of Australian television. He was an American who lived in Australia, and he became the host of this huge syndicated talk show (‘The Don Lane Show’).
“He did this famous interview with Tom Waits, and a lot of people think Heath Ledger took inspiration from it for his portrayal of The Joker.”

Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris reunite for new roadtrip series

OHMYGOSSIP — Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris are getting back behind the wheel for a new show.
The presenters saw their show ‘Top Gear’ officially shelved four months ago after co-host Freddie Flintoff was involved in a devastating crash in December 2022, but they are set to reunite in ‘Chris + Paddy: Roadtrip’, a new BBC series that will see them hit the road around Europe.
However, BBC Studios don’t view the programme – which is set to air this spring – as a continuation of ‘Top Gear’, despite some similarities.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s TV Bizarre column: “This is a brand new travelogue show for Paddy and Chris.
“The duo will travel across Europe, using various modes of transport, visiting people to find the secrets to wellness and happiness — no stunts, no car reviews.”
Paddy had previously revealed he was working on a new project with Chris.
He said: “Me and Chris have got a show, a new show, which we’re starting filming on, so all’s good.”
But he also admitted he hadn’t spoken to Freddie – who was left with several broken ribs and severe facial injuries after the crash – in 10 months.
Speaking earlier this month, he said: “We were all there for him when it happened, and he got back to us all immediately after, but it’s gone quiet since then.
“Who knows what he must be going through. I still see his wife and we still chat, and we have the same barber, and it’s all lovely.
“I messaged Fred recently saying, ‘Look, I can’t begin to think what you’re going through but rather than me bombarding you with loads of messages, which can be annoying, if you can’t be [bothered] with that, I’m always here. I hope you’re well and please God, I’ll see you soon’.
“You just can’t begin to put yourself into his shoes. No one can know what’s going on in his head.”

Cillian Murphy cast in thriller Blood Runs Coal

OHMYGOSSIP — Cillian Murphy has been cast in ‘Blood Runs Coal’.
The ‘Oppenheimer’ actor will take the lead in an adaptation of Mark A. Bradley’s book ‘Blood Runs Coal: The Yablonski Murders and the Battle for the United Mine Workers of America’ about a corrupt union leader who kills one of his rivals.
As reported by Deadline, the movie is being scripted as “a starring and producing vehicles for Murphy”.
‘Spectre’ and ‘Ford v Ferrari’ scribe Jez Butterworth will pen the script alongside ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ writer John-Henry Butterworth.
The story is set in the late 1960s in the Pennsylvania coal mines, focusing on one of the most infamous union crimes in United States history.
The movie will focus on the life of Jock Yablonski, who championed better working conditions for miners.
He accused an election opponent of fraud, and was assassinated along with most of his family.
His son Chip Yablonski (Murphy) embarks on a journey of justice.
Meanwhile, ‘Peaky Blinders’ creator Steven Knight has confirmed Murphy will “definitely” be reprising his role as gangster Tommy Shelby in the big screen adaptation of the BBC drama.
Speaking to Birmingham World at the premiere of his new BBC series ‘This Town’, Knight said: “He definitely is returning for it. We’re shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth.”
The Oscar-winner’s return as Tommy Shelby is unsurprising as he has often talked about his interest in playing the character in a film as long as the script was of sufficient quality.
Cillian told Rolling Stone UK last year: “If there’s more story there, I’d love to do it.
“But it has to be right. Steve Knight wrote 36 hours of television, and we left on such a high. I’m really proud of that last series. So, it would have to feel legitimate and justified to do more.”

Dan Stevens had ‘ton of fun’ on Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

OHMYGOSSIP — Dan Stevens had a “ton of fun” filming ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’.
The 41-year-old actor was excited when his ‘The Guest’ director Adam Wingard called him to discuss the prospect of playing Trapper in the blockbuster opposite his “old buddy” Rebecca Hall, and he had a great time making the film.
Speaking at the Los Angeles premiere of the movie on Monday (25.03.24), he told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “It’s an incredible call to get at the best of times, but to get it from an old friend, Adam Wingard, who directed the last installment of these, to join Rebecca Hall, who is one of my oldest buddies, Brian Tyree Henry, who I adore – and they wrote me an incredible character.
“So, you know, it was just a ton of fun.”
The British star is also awaiting the release of horror thriller ‘Abigail’ and he reflected on the brotherly bond he forged with his co-star, the late Angus Cloud.
Speaking of Angus – who died aged 25 from an accidental overdose last July – Dan said: “He was such a sweetheart, man. I’ve never met anyone like him and, you know, he was like all of our little brother on set.
“It was obviously heartbreaking to lose him. I really hope that people enjoy his performance. I thought he was absolutely terrific in the movie and it was a joy getting to work with him.”
Dan shot to fame playing Matthew Crawley in ‘Downton Abbey’ and though he left the show after season three, he’s “excited” about the possibility of a third spin-off movie being in the works.
He said: “Like with any show where you’re in people’s living rooms on a Sunday evening, you know, people take a special kind of ownership of that.
“They become a part of your family in a way. You sit down, you watch it with your mom, your grandma. So many people I know have seen that show, and it’s really brought families together.
“We laugh, we cry, but, you know, it’s one of those shows where it means a lot to a lot of people.
“So I’m excited for another movie.”

Hollyoaks bosses ‘cutting 20 characters with unique time jump’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Hollyoaks’ bosses are reportedly set to axe 20 actors with its unique “time jump”.
The longrunning soap is cutting its weekly output from five episodes to three, and among the jobs being cut are some of the show’s beloved characters as some families leave the village when the action moves forward one year.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “Losing 20 cast members in one fell swoop is eye-watering and devastating news for soapland. In the past, Hollyoaks has seen shock stunts claim up to five lives in a single episode.
“But the days of soaps having a big cast clear-out with a devastating stunt are long gone, especially on Hollyoaks where the budget has been dramatically cut.
“The necessary death toll would make almost any stunt idea totally unbelievable.”
While Jamie Lomas (Warren Fox) and Owen Warner (Romeo Nightingale) are said to have volunteered to leave, there are a lot more names set to go in the “controversial” move.
The source added: “The time jump is a way for Hollyoaks to say goodbye to the characters that need to go and give closure to the fans – but it will be controversial.
“Bosses are storylining how it will all work now, but as it stands September will be a big reset for the show and a relaunch for its future.”
The show – which moved to a digital first approach last September after moving from Channel 4 to E4 and streaming only – will lose two episodes from September this year, but new executive producer Hannah Cheers is optimistic for the future.
She recently said: “‘Hollyoaks’ offers a unique proposition: bold, escapist, relatable, youth-skewing and multi-generational stories, told in its innovative and technicolour signature style.
“The show continues to bring people together by making them feel something, and everything. Approaching its 30th anniversary in 2025, ‘Hollyoaks’ matters just as much now as it did at its trailblazing launch.
“There may be speculation about the future of Continuing Drama, but as someone who was brought up on the nation’s soaps – and remains a true fan – I believe their value must not be underestimated.”

Lorraine Kelly ‘wonders what might have been’ after miscarriage

OHMYGOSSIP — Lorraine Kelly sometimes “wonders what might have been” if she hadn’t had a miscarriage.
The 64-year-old star, who has 29-year-old daughter Rosie with husband Steve, has been open in the past about suffering a miscarriage in 2001, and she admitted she sometimes ponders the “parallel life” she could have had.
Speaking to Saga Magazine, she said: “Sometimes I wonder what might have been. You’ve got this parallel life that didn’t happen.
“I do remember vividly the time when someone said, ‘Oh this is very common’. They were trying to make me feel better, which made me feel worse.
“I thought oh my God, so many people feel like this.”
However, the host of ITV’s ‘Lorraine’ acknowledged the importance of people talking about such important issues, providing they feel comfortable doing so.
She explained: “I think it’s good that we are talking about things like this a lot more. We are more open, and you should be.
“You should be allowed to grieve and go through that whole process the way it suits you.
“Some people don’t want to talk about it, and some do.”
The TV veteran also opened up on why she didn’t have more children after Rosie was born, noting that it simply “didn’t happen” for her and Steve.
She added: “We weren’t doing anything to stop it from happening. But we never went down the road of doing anything about it, like IVF of tests.
“And by the time you realise it’s not happening… I was in my early 40s, and just thought our time had passed.”
Meanwhile, Lorraine is set to be honoured with the Special Award at this year’s BAFTAs, which take place in London on May 12.
She was told the news during Monday’s (25.03.24) episode of her titular show by ‘Good Morning Britain’ star Susanna Reid.
Lorraine was surprised by the news, and reflected: “I was a baby, I got my chance in breakfast television because they were willing to take a risk on someone who was told I’d never make it to TV because of the way I speak.”

Ben Miller picks Miranda Hart to replace Ralf Little on Death In Paradise

OHMYGOSSIP — Ben Miller wants to see Toby Jones or Miranda Hart join ‘Death In Paradise’.
The BBC has confirmed Ralf Little has left the Caribbean drama after more than four years as Detective Neville Parker, and fans will now be wondering who will replace him for season 14, with Miller, Ardal O’Hanlon and Kris Marshall among his predecessors.
Pondering the series’ next big star, Miller – who played DI Richard Poole – told RadioTimes.com: “Oh my God, there are so many people who’d be brilliant. Toby Jones, that’s who I’d like to see.
He was also asked if a female lead detective could work, and replied: “Yeah, that could definitely work.
“I could see that, 100 percent. I think that’d be good too. If we’re playing fantasy detectives, Miranda Hart.”
Ralf previously opened up about the “possibility” of a female lead for the show, insisting that ‘Death In Paradise’ is “extremely positive and brave in its choices”.
He teased: “‘Never say never’ implies that it’s unlikely. The honest answer is: I don’t know. It’s certainly a possibility. Whatever they decide, it’ll be a good decision.”
Meanwhile, this week Ralf said goodbye to the fans while thanking “everyone who watched and supported the show” since he’s arrival “four and a half years ago”.
He said in a video on Instagram: “Coming into a series beloved by millions was a huge responsibility and I had no idea whether viewers would take to my interpretation of Neville’s character, and, indeed, to me.
“It was quite a relief that the response has been overwhelming, and it’s been an absolute privilege and a pleasure to bring Neville Parker to all of you and to share his quite profound journey with you.”
He added: “I can’t wait to see what happens next. It’s been the ride of a lifetime.”

Russell T Davies’ immediate reaction to Steven Moffat’s first Doctor Who pitch

OHMYGOSSIP — Russell T Davies was “immediately” on board with Steven Moffat’s ‘Doctor Who’ plans.
The showrunner has brought back another of the Whoniverse’s former bosses for Ncuti Gatwa’s upcoming first season, and he’s penned an episode set to air this year.
While details are being kept under wraps, Steven has told the University of Glasgow’s Screenwriting Society: “When I was getting involved in the series again, I pitched several ideas to him.
“I sent several emails until I remember I sent one idea that I thought was dynamite. I got an email back within one minute saying, ‘That’s it, go write that, I want that immediately.’
“So I did. It’s a collaboration of enthusiasm… what we’re doing is giggling and laughing and shouting and bounding around the room about how clever and exciting all this is.
“If you’re not doing that on a show like Doctor Who – or frankly any show – what’s the point?”
Nothing has been revealed about Steven’s episode in season 14, with no word on the plot or even what villains Ncuti’s Gatwa may face.
However, Russell did tease just three words after news of Steven’s comeback, as he cryptically wrote: “Antelope. Moment. Drums.”
And Julie-Anne Robinson, who directed the episode, said: “It was a tremendous honour to direct episodes of ‘Doctor Who’ for the BBC and Disney+.
“This beloved franchise is 60 years old and still going strong.
“It is part of our collective memory as Brits. I’ve always admired Russell T Davies and Ncuti Gatwa is an unbelievably talented actor who has stepped into the role of the Fifteenth Doctor effortlessly, alongside the equally talented Millie Gibson (who plays his sidekick Ruby Sunday.)
“Steven Moffatt gave me an intense challenge as a director. I asked him for a keyword to describe the overall tone of the episode he said: ‘Hitchcock’.
“I can’t wait to see what everyone thinks. I’m grateful to Bad Wolf, the BBC and Disney+. It was an incredible experience.”
