OHMYGOSSIP — George Clooney is set to direct and star in Netflix’s ‘Good Morning, Midnight’.
The 58-year-old Hollywood star is on board to work on the streaming service’s feature-length film adaptation of Lily Brooks-Dalton’s sci-fi thriller novel, which was named one of the best books of 2017 by the Chicago Review of Books.
Mark L. Smith will adapt the screenplay, which follows Augustine, a brilliant, aging astronomer who is consumed by the stars and spends his time trying to look back at the beginning of time itself.
When news of a catastrophic event arrives at his remote research center in the Arctic and the researchers are asked to evacuate, he insists on staying behind and soon embarks on a mission to save Mission Specialist Sullivan, who was aboard the Aether space ship when it crashed on its return flight from Jupiter.
The book’s synopsis hails the novel as: “A haunting debut novel about the search for meaning at the edges of human civilisation. ‘Good Morning, Midnight’ is the unforgettable story of two outsiders grappling with love, sacrifice, and regret at the end of the world.”
George – who will also produce alongside his regular collaborator Grant Heslov, as well as Anonymous Content and Syndicate Entertainment – said in a statement: “Grant and I couldn’t be more excited to be involved with this incredible project.
“Mark is a writer we’ve long admired and his script is haunting. We’re thrilled to be working with our friends at Netflix as well.”
Scott Stuber, head of Netflix’s film division added: “Having known and worked with George for over two decades, I can’t think of anyone better to bring this amazing story to life.
“The book is powerful and moving, and Mark’s adaptation is beautifully written. At its core, this is a story about human nature, and one that I know our global audiences will fall in love with, just like I did when I read it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Zachary Levi is in talks to star in ‘Spy Guys’.
The 38-year-old actor is reportedly in negotiations to lead New Line’s upcoming action comedy, which will be helmed by ‘Tag’ director Jeff Tomsic from a script by ‘Due Date’ writer Adam Sztykiel.
According to Collider, Zachary will play a character “along the lines of Jason Bourne and Ethan Hunt” who has to rely on the help of his incompetent college friends to help him when he gets stuck on an impossible mission.
The project was originally developed with Andy Samberg in mind for the lead role, however, the ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ star will now produce alongside his ‘Lonely Island’ co-stars Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer.
New Line has reportedly fast-tracked the movie as they want it to come out before the follow-up to this year’s DC hit ‘Shazam!’, in which Zachary played the titular hero.
David F. Sandberg and Peter Safran – the respective director and producer of the latest DC Extended Universe film – previously confirmed they want to continue the story of Levi’s Billy Batson after his origin story, which raked in a huge $363.2 million at the international box office.
The pair were recently asked whether they were ready to take on a sequel to ‘Shazam!’ to which Safran quickly replied: “Absolutely!”
Sandberg then enthused: “Let’s do it!”
The original superhero movie followed 14-year-old Billy who can magically transform into the adult superhero Shazam simply by shouting the word – an acronym of the ancient world gods and historical figures: Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury – and he has to use his powers to defeat the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Curtis is “always hoping” there will be a ‘Blackadder’ return in a TV or stage special.
The popular BBC comedy – which starred Rowan Atkinson as anti-hero Edmund Blackadder in all four series from 1983 until 1989 – was last seen on screen in the ‘Back & Forth’ one-off episode, originally made for broadcast in the Millenium Dome in 1999, and now the show’s co-creator has admitted he has ideas for a comeback.
He’s quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “The thing about ‘Blackadder’ was, it was a young man’s show criticising older people, saying how stupid those in authority were.
“So I did once think, ‘If we ever did anything again, it should be Blackadder as a teacher in a university, about how much we hate young people.’
“I’m always hoping Rowan and I will do one last live show and bring on Blackadder for a 10-minute bit.”
Each series covered a different period of history, including the Middle Ages, Elizabethan England, the Georgian Era and a run of episodes focused on the trenches during World War One.
The cast also featured the likes of Tim McInnerny, Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry and the late Rik Mayall.
Last year, leading man Rowan admitted that although it would be fun to reunite with his co-star Sir Tony Robinson, who portrayed his side-kick Baldrick, there are currently no plans to revive the popular 80s show.
He previously said: “I think it’s highly unlikely.
“Tony, unfortunately, gets quoted as saying these things when he didn’t really say it, he just sometimes thinks, you know, wouldn’t it be fun?
“But it’s not an indication unfortunately that there are any plans to bring the ‘Blackadder’ back, there are no plans but I think it’s highly unlikely.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Constance Wu is set to star in ‘Goodbye, Vitamin’.
The 37-year-old actress – who is best known for her roles as Jessica Huang in the ABC television comedy ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ and Rachel Chu in 2018 rom-com ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ – is on board to lead Universal’s adaptation of Rachel Khong’s 2017 debut novel.
Wu will also executive produce the project while Dylan Clark will produce for his Universal-based Dylan Clark Productions and Jennifer Yee McDevitt will pen the screenplay.
The movie will center on Ruth Young (Wu) who returns home when her father loses his job as a university lecturer after he’s diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
To help her father cope with his illness, she enlists the help of one of her father’s former student to stage a fake class so he can continue to teach.
According to the books synopsis, the novel is: “A wry, beautifully observed story of a woman at a crossroads, as Ruth and her friends, attempt to shore up her father’s career; she and her mother obsess over the ambiguous health benefits – in the absence of a cure – of dried jellyfish supplements and vitamin pills; and they all try to forge a new relationship with the brilliant, childlike, irascible man her father has become.”
‘Goodbye, Vitamin’ was the winner of the California Book Award for First Fiction as well as landing a spot as an LA Times Book Prize Finalist, and it was also named as Best Book of the Year by a host of publications.

OHMYGOSSIP — Jason Isaacs is on board for Danny Boyle’s ‘Creation Stories’.
The 56-year-old actor has joined the cast of the upcoming biopic about the life of Creation Records boss Alan McGee and the movie will see the 62-year-old filmmaker reunite with ‘Trainspotting’ author Irvine Welsh.
Boyle – who helmed the 1996 cult classic, an adaptation of Welsh’s novel – will work with the writer to bring the label boss’ story to life on the big screen, serving as executive producer on the project.
Irvine, 60, has penned the screenplay based on Alan’s book ‘The Creation Records Story: Riots, Raves and Running a Label’ with his partner Dean Cavanagh, while Nick Moran is on board to direct.
The movie will tell the story of the record label owner as he signs the likes of Oasis, Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine and Teenage Fanclub.
‘Trainspotting’ star Ewen Bremner will play McGee in the film and the cast will also include Jason Flemyng – who starred alongside Nick in the hit 1998 Guy Ritchie crime thriller ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’ – Rupert Everett and Suki Waterhouse.
Steven Berkoff, Leo Flanagan, Ed Byrne, Paul Kaye, Thomas Turgoose, Rufus Jones, Perry Benson and Mel Raido have also joined the cast.
In a statement, ‘Filth’ author Irvine admitted he couldn’t be happier to be writing the movie.
He said: “I’ve been lucky to work with both Danny and Nick over the years and to have the two of them together on this project, along with Ewen, feels like a lottery win.”
And Moran added: “Working as a team with Danny on this film is a dream… The last time him and Irvine worked together they changed the world of cinema. Who wouldn’t be excited to be part of that team!”

OHMYGOSSIP — Taika Waititi is on board to write and direct a ‘Flash Gordon’ remake.
The ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ filmmaker looks set to pen the script and stand at the helm of the animated Fox/Disney project, with John Davis producing.
However, according to Deadline, his camp says it’s too early to say exactly what his role on the film would be.
The original ‘Flash Gordon’ movie was released in 1980 and starred Sam J. Jones as the central character.
‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ Matthew Vaughn was previously attached to direct the project back in 2015 but two years later he noted that a prospective film was facing increased competition from other space franchises, such as ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.
He explained: “You’ve got ‘Star Wars’, you’ve got ‘Guardians’, so you’ve got to have your own space opera, but you have to find something that can survive among these two very, very great franchises.”
The 43-year-old director recently walked away from his ‘Bubbles’ movie, an animated film about Michael Jackson which tells the King of Pop’s story through the eyes of his famous pet chimpanzee called Bubbles, due to his busy schedule which includes the release of his latest film ‘Jojo Rabbit’.
Taika was set to co-direct the film with Mark Gustafson, who has since left to work with Guillermo del Toro on ‘Pinocchio’.
Netflix – who acquired rights to the film at Cannes in 2017 for $20 million – have since dropped the movie as they feel it’s “no longer a fit” without the ‘Hunt For The Wilderpeople’ director at the helm.

OHMYGOSSIP — Coronation Street’s Helen Worth has hinted the Platt women will be instrumental in eventually reuniting their troubled family.
The ‘Corrie’ legend’s character Gail Platt has seen her family torn apart in recent weeks after sons Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) admitting to taking and spending their gran Audrey Roberts’ (Sue Nicholls) £80,000 inheritance – but Helen admits there is a strong chance they will patch up their differences.
She said: “I think blood is thicker than water and they are a close family unit despite their differences, but I think the coming months are going to be some of the toughest they have been through.
“It will fall to the women of the family to hold things together whilst David and Nick battle it out.
“She [Gail] has really felt like she is stuck in the middle of this awful mess, she feels terrible about what happened to her mum and she is very disappointed in her boys, but at the end of her day they are her sons.”
Gail being Gail, she will attempt to sort out the family issues next week when she brings Audrey, Nick and David together to try to iron out their differences – but the meet up breaches their bail conditions and the police turn up.
Helen said: “She is worried about what they are both doing, her boys have really got it in for each other and are only interested in self-preservation.
“She naively thinks that she can sort the situation out and get them all ironing out their issues.
“Typical Gail comes up with what she feels is a foolproof plan and says that they all have to pass round an ornament and only the person holding it can speak.
“Of course, this is something that might work with other people but there is no way David and Nick are going to let the other speak without it all kicking off and that is exactly what happens.
“David and Nick are in breach of their bail just being in the same room as Audrey so when it all starts to kick off it doesn’t look good for anyone especially when the police arrive.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Prue Leith would love her ‘Angelotti Chronicles’ novels to be turned into a TV drama.
The ‘Great British Bake Off’ judge recently released ‘The Lost Son’ – the final instalment in the trilogy after ‘The Food of Love’ and ‘The Prodigal Daughter’ – and she thinks the book series would make for the perfect material to be adapted into a Sunday night show.
Speaking on ‘The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show’ on BBC Radio 2, she said: “Oh, you know what, I’m really old, I’m going to be 80 next February.
“What I’d love, before I die, is to get one of my novels onto the TV screen. This trilogy, I think, is perfect for Sunday night. It’s a drama, it’s a family dynasty, it’s a saga about food and love, and each generation’s love affairs.
“It should go at nine o’clock, I reckon, on Sunday nights. However, I’ve not been able to sell it at all.”
The series follows two families in the Cotswolds, and Prue admits it will be the last time she pens a trilogy.
The author – who has written another five books outside of the ‘Angelotti Chronicles’ – added: “Believe me, this is the last trilogy I will ever write.
“It usually takes me a year to write a novel, it took me five to write three, and it’s not just the fact that you’re having to remember all the characteristics of all the families but they keep on growing.
“The people have babies, they marry other people – but anyway, the readers don’t have to worry about all that.”
While Prue previously said she gets “cross” when she’s dismissed as a celebrity writer, she won’t turn her nose up at the extra attention her TV appearances have brought to the books.
She recently joked: “Mind you, if having rather more celebrity now than I had when I started the trilogy means it sells more books than the first one, we wouldn’t mind, would we? I’m quite prepared to be grateful to ‘Bake Off.’ ”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Hollyoaks’ star Stephanie Waring was hospitalised when her weight plummeted to four-and-a-half stone at the height of her battle with anorexia.
The 41-year-old actress – who portrays Cindy Cunningham on the Channel 4 soap – began facing issues with her weight at the age of 14 and has confessed she sought help when doctors told her she would die if she wasn’t hospitalised.
Speaking to new! magazine, she said: “It was bad, really bad. I weighed 4st 7lb. The doctors basically said, ‘If you don’t go to hospital, you may as well get hit by a bus because you’re going to die.’ ”
The soap star admits there wasn’t a single incident which triggered her eating disorder, and explained she became “scared to eat” after losing weight – and spent a year “eating nothing and exercising three times a day”.
She said: “There was never one particular trigger. I was basically a fat kid and I wanted to look good in hot pants. I went on a diet but the diet never ended.
“I lost more and more weight, and started eating less, then I became scared to eat because I thought I’d put weight back on.
“It got to the point where I was eating nothing and exercising three times a day. That happened for over a year before it got to the point where it was like, ‘You’re going to die,’ and I went to hospital and got better.”
Stephanie has since changed the way she views food, and now has more “acceptance” with her body.
She said: “I don’t think it ever leaves you especially because I was so young. I’m 41 now but it’s something so ingrained in you psychologically so it’s always there in the back of your mind.
“But I’ve learned to have a different relationship with food and now I have a lot more acceptance with my body.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Rylan Clark-Neal played up to “the gay stereotype” on ‘The X Factor’.
The 30-year-old star – who rose to fame on the ninth series of the ITV talent show in 2012 – “played a character” on the programme, because he felt he had to fit a certain image to make sure he was a hit with the public.
Speaking to The Guardian newspaper, he said: “I played a character when I was on there. I knew I had to be the gay stereotype that was on the front of the papers every day. And I did my job well. I played the game.”
After completing the ‘X Factor’ tour, Rylan – who married former ‘Big Brother’ housemate Dan Neal in 2015 – thought his time in the spotlight was “over”, and he struggled to get to grips with the possibility.
He explained: “The second you walk out, you are on your own. I was very lucky. After the ‘X Factor’ tour, I went back home … it was the first time I’d been in a room on my own for eight months, without anyone watching me.
“I remember waking up at 4am and thinking, ‘It’s over.’ If the phone hadn’t rung with the ‘Big Brother’ job a few weeks later, I don’t know what I’d have done.”
The broadcaster – who won ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ in 2013 and went onto host spin-off show ‘Big Brother’s Bit on the Side’ – has also been the target of abuse from vile online trolls.
He added: “Every day on my Twitter feed I’ll get, ‘You’re gay, you’re a ****, people like you should be killed because you’re gay.’ Will things ever change?”

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Hollywood’s estranged wife Alexandra Hollywood has been diagnosed with skin cancer.
The 54-year-old cookery writer – who married Paul, 53, in 1998, but they split in 2017 – announced on Instagram she had been diagnosed with a basal cell carcinoma (BCC), a type of non-melanoma skin cancer.
But Alexandra reassured followers that while she was “freaked out” by her diagnosis, her condition is “no big deal” and was addressed by a specialist “straight away and very painlessly”.
Speaking in a video, she said: “It did freak me out at first. A specialist sorted it out straight away and very painlessly.
“Everything’s going to be fine and go back to normal.”
Alex insisted “we all need to be more self-aware” and blamed her diagnosis on her years “mucking around in boats as a Scuba instructor” with “little or no sunscreen” while also urging her followers to check themselves for signs of the disease.
Besides the video, she wrote: “So here’s the thing.. I wanted you lot to see this because I know that we’re all scared of the C word.
“I’m lucky, this is no big deal but it’s a bit of a wake up call and payback for those years I spent poolside and mucking around in boats as a Scuba instructor, in and out of the water with little or no sunscreen!
“We all need to be more self aware, so with that in mind – I really hope you’ll all have a good look at yourselves tonight in the bathroom mirror – and if you’re not sure about something .. go see your GP! (sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — Emily Atack felt like a “nine-year-old kid” in the ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ camp.
The 29-year-old actress felt “complete contentment” with herself and her life during her stint on the show last year but knew it would be unrealistic to expect to continue to feel as happy all the time when she returned home.
She said: “It’s unrealistic to think you can do something like the jungle, and then keep up that feeling of complete contentment that you get when you’ve detoxed like that.
“There’s none of the stresses of life getting to you, you’re stripped bare – you’re a nine-year-old kid again in there!
“And that’s not a realistic portrayal of life – you can’t go through life being that happy with a unicorn up your arse all the time.”
The former ‘Inbetweeners’ star still has days where she feels “insecure” or bad about herself but has learned to understand they won’t last.
She added to heat magazine: “I still have bad days where I feel insecure about my body or about the fact that I’m not as healthy as I was in the jungle – I’ve put on a stone since – and that’s always difficult.
“If I do feel a bit s**t about something, I just remind myself that I can pull myself out of it.”
Emily is delighted to have retained contact with her campmates but wishes she saw some of them more often.
She said: “We’ve got a WhatsApp group. We always do our best to keep in contact and send each other pictures and videos.
“[Noel Edmonds] is brilliant. He sent me a video the other day because I said to him, ‘Noel, I thought I saw you in a pub.’ And he sent me a video going, ‘Ooh I’m right behind you Emily’ because he was in a pub too.
“I was gutted he wasn’t actually behind me.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Emmerdale’ leads the soap nominations for the TV Choice Awards with six nods.
The ITV show is up for the coveted Best Soap accolade, as well as five other gongs, including Best Soap Actress for Isabel Hodgins (Victoria Barton), and Best Soap Actor for Ryan Hawley (Robert Sugden) and Jeff Hordley (Cain Dingle).
Emmerdale’s Asan N’Jie (Ellis Chapman) and Olivia Bromley (Dawn Taylor) also have nods in the Best Soap Newcomer category.
The pair will go up against ‘EastEnders’ youngster Kara-Leah Fernandes (Bailey Baker), and Maureen Lipman, who plays ‘Coronation Street’ battleaxe Evelyn Plummer.
‘EastEnders’ follow closely behind the ITV soap with five nominations, including a pair of Best Soap Actress nods for Lorraine Stanley (Karen Taylor) and Gillian Wright (Jean Slater).
Danny Dyer has a nomination in the Best Soap Actor category – which he triumphed in last year – and as well Ryan and Jeff, he will take on ‘Coronation Street’ star Jack P. Shepherd.
What’s more, Jack’s ‘Corrie’ co-star Alison King is up for Best Soap Actress.
‘Hollyoaks’ is up for the Best Soap award, but the Channel 4 show missed out on any nods in the actor and actress categories.
‘Corrie’ stars will no doubt be hoping their name is on the Best Soap trophy again this year after scooping the title in 2018.
‘Emmerdale’ won two awards last year, with Emma Atkins (Charity Dingle) named Best Soap Actress, and Ned Porteous (Joseph Tate) taking home Best Soap Newcomer.
The TV Choice Awards will take place The London Hilton on London’s Park Lane on Monday September 9.
‘Pointless’ star Richard Osman will host ceremony for the third time.

OHMYGOSSIP — EastEnders’ Tony Clay believes Callum ‘Halfway’ Highway would have to leave Walford if he had a dramatic showdown with Bianca Jackson.
The 27-year-old actor would love his character – who is engaged to Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty), but is also romantically involved with Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) – to clash with Patsy Palmer’s alter-ego when she returns to Albert Square later this year, but admits his character would need to leave the East End quickly.
He told Inside Soap magazine: “It would be brilliant. Callum would need a passport and to be on the go straight away if Bianca found out.
“I’d be buzzing to do scenes with Patsy Palmer, so we’ll just have to see what happens as the story unfolds…”
The storyline is set to heat up with the romance between Callum and Ben after the couple are spotted by Callum’s brother Stuart (Ricky Champ) sharing an intimate moment in the Queen Vic – and the soap star is intrigued about what direction the characters will go in.
Tony added: “The whole plot is hugely exciting for us all. One minute Callum is talking about having a baby with Whitney, the next minute he’s in this whole new world.
“For Shona, it’s a chance to do some big scenes if Whitney has to deal with the truth about Callum. Whichever way it goes, we’re going to really roll with it.”
Tony returned to Walford in spring last year, and he previously admitted he immediately regretted getting his haircut after chopping his tresses for the show.
He said at the time: “I had this haircut for Halfway. At first I thought, ‘Oh no, what have I done?’
“But I’ve realised it adds character. Now he’s with Whitney, she might be the type of girl to say, ‘OK, let’s take you to the barbers.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Love Island’s female contestants look set to move to Casa Amor for the first time.
Previously, the ITV2 dating show has given male islanders the chance to relocate to the second villa and have their relationships tested by introducing them to six new female singletons.
While plans are still being “discussed with producers”, it is expected the girls will head over to the other residence this year to meet a group of six new boys, with six new girls heading into the main villa to test the current lads.
A TV source told The Sun Online: “In an epic plot twist the female Islanders will head to Casa Amor while the boys stay put at the main villa.
“The finer details are still being discussed with producers but the plan is for all the Islanders to leave the main villa in four Land Rovers.
“The girls will travel to Casa Amor but the boys will be redirected back to the villa.”
This news comes after speculation that the second villa may be axed after last year, when Dani Dyer was shown a clip of Jack Fincham revealing in Casa Amor that he used to date one of the then-new Islanders, Ellie Jones.
The incident sparked more than 2,500 complaints to Ofcom after Dani wasn’t shown footage of Jack declaring his love for her, but ‘Love Island’ was cleared of any wrongdoing.
A source said: “Casa Amor was the ultimate test for islanders in their new romances – and viewers were left on the edge of their seats as producers teased potential betrayals and heartbreak.
“But after two years there are concerns the rival villa won’t have the same impact and that new islanders who’ve watched the show will see it coming.
“It all depends what happens when the series starts – there’s still a possibility Casa Amor will be used but at the moment producers aren’t certain.”
However days later, show boss Angelia Jain hinted the twist could well be included once again, admitting the Islanders’ relationships will be “tested” with “format twists” throughout the series.
She said: “What we do in terms of format twists – as this is ongoing casting – we’re trying to mirror real life and relationships do get tested, that’s entirely normal.
“So we will test them and the islanders are fully aware their relationships will get tested.
“We will do that because that’s the expectation for the audience and the islanders.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Line of Duty’ has four nominations for the 2019 TV Choice Awards.
The shortlist has been revealed ahead of the prestigious ceremony on September 9 at The London Hilton, with voting now open, and Jed Mercurio’s police programme finds itself on the shortlist for Best Drama Series.
The show will battle it out with ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Poldark’ and ‘Victoria’, and Line of Duty’s Vicky McClure will face off against Brenda Blethyn (‘Vera’), Jodie Comer (‘Killing Eve’) and Eleanor Tomlinson (‘Poldark’) in the Best Actress category.
‘Line of Duty’ stars Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar are both in the running for Best Actor, alongside ‘Bodyguard’ leading man Richard Madden and ‘Poldark’ star Aidan Turner.
Elsewhere, the Best Talent Show category looks tough to call with ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, ‘Dancing On Ice’ and ‘The Great British Bake Off’ all named on the shortlist.
And Ricky Gervais will be hoping his Netflix comedy ‘After Life’ can earn the Best Comedy prize, but it faces stiff competition from ‘Derry Girls’, ‘Still Open All Hours’ and ‘Not Going Out’.
