Harry Styles for The Little Mermaid?

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Styles is in talks to play Prince Eric in ‘The Little Mermaid’.
The 25-year-old singer launched his acting career in 2017 when he landed a part in ‘Dunkirk’, but he’s now set to up the ante with a leading role in Disney’s live-action remake of the popular animation which was first released in 1989.
‘The Little Mermaid’ tells the story of a young mermaid named Ariel – who will be played by Halle Bailey in the remake – who is fascinated with life on land and on one of her visits to the surface, meets and falls in love with Prince Eric.
Determined to be with her love, Ariel makes a deal with the evil Ursula to exchange her beautiful voice for human legs, but she must seal the deal with a kiss within three days, or she will lose her voice forever.
According to Deadline, Harry – who was rocketed to fame in 2010 as a member of One Direction – is in talks to take on the role of the handsome Prince Eric in the Rob Marshall helmed reboot.
Most recently, Harry was one of the contenders for the role of Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming biopic on the King of Rock n’ Roll, and Deadline claims the hunk was waiting to see if he landed the job before committing to ‘The Little Mermaid’.
Austin Butler came out on top for the Elvis Presley role, and so it is now believed Harry will commit to Prince Eric instead.
Alongside 19-year-old Halle as the titular mermaid, Awkwafina and Jacob Tremblay are also said to be in talks for ‘The Little Mermaid’, with Awkwafina set to portray Scuttle the seagull, while 12-year-old Jacob will lend his voice to the role of faithful fish friend Flounder.
Melissa McCarthy is in talks to play Ursula, the sea witch, and Terry Crews recently put his own name forward to play King Triton, Ariel’s father.

OHMYGOSSIP — Taika Waititi is returning to direct ‘Thor 4’.
Marvel Studios has signed up the ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ helmer for the sequel after the success of the 2017 box office smash.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this means the New Zealand filmmaker’s manga movie ‘Akira’ for Warner Bros. is likely to be delayed due to his ‘Thor’ commitments.
However, it’s hoped he will return to work on the Japanese-American sci-fi film, which is based on the manga character of the same name, after he’s completed the fourth instalment of the Marvel flick.
‘Akira’ was slated for release on May 21, 2021.
It’s believed Chris Hemsworth will be reprising his role as the titular hammer-wielding God in the next ‘Thor’ movie.
Tessa Thompson previously claimed that the sequel had been pitched back in April.
The 35-year-old actress – who plays Valkyrie – confirmed the follow-up to the latest edition of the superhero’s standalone story was submitted and she believed Taika would be on board.
She said: “I don’t know how real that intel is, but I hear that the pitch has happened, I think the idea is Taika would come back.”
‘Thor: Ragnarok’- which saw Taika voice fan favourite character Korg – followed the film’s hero fighting his way out of deadly gladiatorial contest that pit him against his former ally and fellow Avenger the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) , after being imprisoned on the other side of the universe.

Emmerdale’s Debbie Dingle set for Scotland?

OHMYGOSSIP — Emmerdale’s Debbie Dingle looks set to swap the Dales for Scotland – to tie in with Charley Webb’s maternity leave.
The 31-year-old actress temporarily left the ITV soap last week ahead of giving birth to her third child with husband and co-star Matthew Wolfenden (David Metcalfe), and her character appears to be planning a move up north.
Debbie’s aunt Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) became suspicious when her niece was being distant, and her relative then revealed she has plans to relocate to Scotland.
It comes after Debbie and Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) were left a garage in Scotland by Lisa Dingle (Jane Cox), Belle’s late mother.
However, Chas convinced Debbie to discuss the plans further before coming to a concrete decision.
Charley – who also has kids Buster, nine, and three-year-old Bowie with Matthew – began her maternity leave on Saturday (13.07.19) and enjoyed soaking up the sun.
She wrote on Twitter: “First day of maternity leave and the suns shining. YES! I’ll be found in the garden sunbathing (for about 20 seconds before one of the kids need me) (sic)”
But it’s not been an easy pregnancy for Charley as she has recently been struggling to stay awake past 4pm.
She wrote on Twitter: “I am SO tired. It gets to 4pm and I’m done. I forget just how tiring being pregnant is. And then I do it again and remember (sic)”
What’s more, the 31-year-old star has been left in “agony” after she was diagnosed with a pregnancy-related pelvic condition SPD (symphysis pubis dysfunction), which has seen her muscles relax too much ahead of her birth.
She said: “I still get waves of sickness but I’ve also been diagnosed with SPD [symphysis pubis dysfunction].
“It’s when your muscles have relaxed too much ready for the birth.
“It’s agony.”

Ex On The Beach ‘set to return’ after death of Mike Thalassitis

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Ex On The Beach’ is set to return following the death of Mike Thalassitis.
The last series of the MTV reality show was cancelled after it was revealed Mike – who filmed scenes for the 10th season, which was never broadcast – had taken his own life aged 26 in March, but now bosses are reportedly planning to bring the programme back.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: “It looked like the show might have been over for good when it didn’t come back, but that isn’t the case.
“Bosses still believe in the format and they’re going to try to learn the same lessons as ‘Love Island’.
“They definitely don’t feel it’s over yet, even though some fans might question the decision.”
Earlier this year, MTV confirmed it wouldn’t be broadcasting the 10th series.
A spokesperson said in a statement: “We were very sad to hear the tragic news about Mike Thalassitis and our thoughts are with his family and friends.
“Last year, Mike took part in filming for the next series of ‘Ex on the Beach’, which was due to air on MTV later in the year.
“In light of the news of Mike’s death, we have decided not to broadcast the planned 10th season of the show.”
Mike also previously appeared on ‘Love Island’, and last month it was revealed ITV bosses have warned participants there will be “potential downsides” when they resume their regular life after the show, insisting there are “no guarantees” they will find fame.
Head honchos went before a Commons culture select committee’s inquiry into reality TV to share documents issued to Islanders before they headed to the villa, which included a 27-page contract and an aftercare form.
In the contract, Islanders were warned the public may “quickly lose interest” in them if they become famous, and insist the main goal of appearing on the show should be “to find love” rather than fame.

Louie Spence finding TV casting hard

OHMYGOSSIP — Louie Spence claims being gay is “not enough” to land him TV jobs any more.
The choreographer – who has appeared on 10 reality shows including ‘The Jump’, ‘Celebrity Call Centre’, ‘Celebs On The Farm’ and ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ – thinks producers are worried about being “politically correct” and are more focused on embracing diversity for the sake of it than casting the “best people” for the programme.
He said: “It’s getting more and more difficult to get cast on TV shows. It’s not enough to be gay any more.
“Everyone is so worried about being politically correct, the best people for the job aren’t always being cast. It’s tough.”
The ‘Pineapple Dance Studios’ star won’t be thinking about retirement for a long time yet.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: “I’m nearly 50 and I think I’ll be working for many years yet, I’m not ready to hang up my dancing shoes.”
Louie previously hit out at BBC reality contest ‘The Greatest Dancer’, branding it “tired” and a “wasted opportunity” because it didn’t feature professional movers.
He said: “The format is just tired.
“My expectations were that it was going to be a proper dance show, but it’s just a rehash of Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor. Aren’t we over that now? I think people are beyond all the sob stories…”Are they naive that they’re going to call a show The Greatest Dancer and have amateurs on there?
“I think it’s a weak show and a wasted opportunity.”
He was also unimpressed by the decision to hire Cheryl as a judge alongside Oti Mabuse and Matthew Morrison.
He said: “I personally don’t thinks she’s a national treasure.”
“Oti has a lot of personality and is bubbly and maybe Cheryl feels she needs to be more quiet because she’s not really an expert in dance.”

Harley Brash’s mum dated Robbie Williams

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’ newcomer Harley Brash was bullied at school because of her mother’s relationship with Robbie Williams.
The 20-year-old beauty was just seven years old when Lisa Brash enjoyed a fling with the ‘Angels’ singer after meeting him at a party in Newcastle and the former probation officer admitted she felt “awful” because of the impact her high-profile romance had on her daughter and son.
Speaking in 2005, Lisa said: “I felt awful, absolutely terrible. My children were getting bullied at school and I knew it was my fault.”
After an appearance on ‘Trisha’, Lisa became a presenter on Bid Up TV and admitted at the time she wanted Harley to embark on a showbiz career.
She said: “She’s a proper little drama queen, just like her mam.”
Lisa previously admitted Robbie broke her heart when he dumped her but praised him as a “lovely, sensitive bloke”.
Speaking about a 2004 night in his London flat, she said: “It wasn’t wild wham-bam breathtaking sex but he was a wonderful lover.
“There were no acrobatics and we stayed in a loving missionary position which was just perfect.
“His muscles and tattoos looked fantastic in the moonlight and I was wildly turned on.”
Harley entered the ‘Love Island’ villa earlier this week but before going on the show she promised not to “hold back” if she likes one of the boys who are already coupled up.
She said: “I’ll always tell a girl first if I like the guy they are coupled up with but if I’ve told the girl, then the game is on. I wouldn’t be sneaky or snakey but if I’ve told someone I like someone, don’t think I’m going to hold back.”

Love Island’s Anna and Jordan hint at night of passion

OHMYGOSSIP — Love Island’s Anna Vakili and Jordan Hames hinted they had sex in last night’s (16.07.19) episode.
The pair were given the opportunity to go to the Hideaway for a night away from their fellow Islanders, and they seemed to make the most of it as the 24-year-old model blindfolded the 29-year-old pharmacist before stripping down to his underwear and tickling her with a mini feather duster.
While further scenes of their night of fun were not shown on the ITV2 show, Anna said to Jordan the next morning: “Tell the guys we didn’t have sex.”
He then said: “Shall I just say we done bits?”
But she replied: “No.”
Jordan recalled some of the events from the pair’s night in the Hideaway to some of the lads in the villa, admitting he was “buzzing” afterwards.
He said: “I got into the hot tub. I put a blindfold on her, got a little feather duster and dusted her. It was good.
“I feel lucky that I’ve met someone like her. I’ve got a full-on connection with her. I’m buzzing.”
After coupling up with Jordan earlier in the series, Anna dumped him in favour of Ovie Soko after getting close to the basketball player in Casa Amor.
But when the pair returned to the main villa as a new couple, Anna soon realised she had made a mistake and ditched Ovie to reunite with Jordan.
It comes after her sister Mandi Vakili revealed Anna was approached on Instagram to join the show by ‘Love Island’ bosses.
Mandi said: “She was approached on Instagram, so she was sort of scouted. She never applied.
“It’s not how it works usually, usually everyone applies.
“But Anna didn’t apply, they messaged her and contacted her and we were like, ‘Oh my God, is this really happening?’ ”

Quentin Tarantino says Star Trek will be ‘last’ film

OHMYGOSSIP — Quentin Tarantino says if he commits to directing ‘Star Trek’ then it will be his final film.
The ‘Pulp Fiction’ director previously pitched an R-rated script for a new instalment in the rebooted franchise to producer J.J. Abrams which is being strongly considered.
Tarantino, 56, has always vowed that he will make 10 movies and then retire and as the proposed ‘Star Trek’ film would reach that number he insists he will make good on his promise if it gets the green light.
Speaking to CinemaBlend he said: “I guess I do have a loophole, [if] the idea was to throw a loophole into it. Which would be [to go], ‘Uh, I guess ‘Star Trek’ doesn’t count. I can do ‘Star Trek’ … but naturally I would end on an original. But the idea of doing 10 isn’t to come up with a loophole. I actually think if I was going to do ‘Star Trek’ I should commit to it. It’s my last movie. There should be nothing left-handed about it. I don’t know if I’m going to do that, but that might happen.”
Tarantino’s ninth film ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ – which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie – came out this year.
Karl Urban – who plays Doctor McCoy in the new ‘Star Trek’ films – previously spilled that the ‘Pulp Fiction’ filmmaker’s idea for a ‘Star Trek’ film is “bananas”.
The 47-year-old actor said: “Quentin Tarantino went in to J.J.’s offices and pitched him an idea for a ‘Star Trek’ movie. I know a little bit about what that is, and it’s bananas … It would be really rad to get to make a film with him. That would be a dream come true, he is definitely an auteur. Whether you like his films or not, he is a good filmmaker. And he makes interesting stuff. So, to me, that is when you get the best results.”

Malcolm D. Lee to direct Space Jam 2

OHMYGOSSIP — Malcolm D. Lee will direct ‘Space Jam 2’.
The ‘Girls Trip’ filmmaker will reportedly take the directing reins from Terence Nance on Warner Bros./SpringHill Entertainment’s upcoming sequel to the original 1996 family comedy, which is set for release on July 16, 2021.
LeBron James’ production company, SpringHill Entertainment, announced in an Instagram post earlier this year that the sequel will be released in summer 2021, almost 25 years later from original movie.
The new film will also be a live-action and animation hybrid and will see the basketball star take over from NBA legend Michael Jordan, who appeared in the original film in 1996 alongside fellow basketball stars Charles Barkley and Patrick Ewing.
Black Panther’s Ryan Coogler will produce and production is said to star later this year.
Speaking of the sequel when the film was announced, LeBron, 34, said: “The ‘Space Jam’ collaboration is so much more than just me and the Looney Tunes getting together and doing this movie, it’s so much bigger.
“I’d just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don’t just give up on their dreams. And I think Ryan did that for a lot of people [with ‘Black Panther’].”
The original ‘Space Jam’ saw Chicago Bulls icon Jordan team up with Bugs Bunny and the rest of the ‘Looney Tunes’ cartoon characters to play a game of basketball in order to save them from enslavement at an alien amusement park.
LeBron previously appeared in the 2015 comedy ‘Trainwreck’, and Amy Schumer – who wrote the movie – revealed the unusual reason she decided to cast him in the film.
Amy – who also starred alongside Bill Hader in the hit film – confessed: “I wrote him in (the movie) because he’s the only basketball player I’ve ever heard of.”

Anton Danyluk is ‘hopeless with love’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’ star Anton Danyluk is “hopeless with love” according to his pals.
The Scottish hunk had an explosive row on the ITV2 reality show with his partner Belle Hassan over the weekend after a series of relationship gaffes, and his friends outside the infamous villa have said his romance rough patches are caused by his lack of experience with relationships.
A source close to Anton told The Sun Online: “He can’t help himself – he’s not used to relationships. He doesn’t realise he keeps putting his foot in it with Belle because he’s hopeless with love.
“He’s used to being the hot gym owner with girls throwing themselves at him in Scotland. But things don’t usually get this serious for Anton, so it’s like he doesn’t know what to do.
“The Belle situation has thrown him. He is honestly a nice guy, but his friends are cringing for him as he hasn’t really got game.”
This week, the 24-year-old gym owner was forced to sleep on the sofa after an argument with 21-year-old Belle, which was started when Anton chose to kiss Anna Vakili during a challenge.
But following their row, Anton insisted he wanted to patch things up with the blonde beauty.
He said: “I slept on the couch because I felt like it was an emotional rollercoaster last night.
“Regardless of the situation, I think we’re going to disagree. The bottom line is that you feel I’ve mugged you off and I feel like you’ve mugged me off.”
And admitting she’s “scared of being hurt again”, Belle then told Anton: “I know that I am a hot-head and that is something I have to work on. When I’ve fell for someone, they’ve hurt me and I’m scared of being hurt again.”
‘Love Island’ continues tonight (16.07.19) at 9pm on ITV2.

John Krasinski begins work on A Quiet Place 2

OHMYGOSSIP — John Krasinski has started filming ‘A Quiet Place 2’.
The 39-year-old actor co-wrote, directed, and starred in the 2018 horror movie ‘A Quiet Place’ – which also starred his wife Emily Blunt – and on Monday (15.07.19), he revealed filming has begun on the movie’s sequel.
Posting a picture of a slate which showed they were filming scene one, take one, John wrote on Twitter: “#PartII (sic)”
Whilst he is back in the directing chair for the follow-up, John will not be reprising his role as Lee Abbott, as the character didn’t survive to the end of the first flick.
Emily Blunt, however, will be back as Lee’s wife Evelyn Abbott with Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe back as her children, Regan and Marcus.
The first film follows the family in a post-apocalyptic world that has been taken over by blind monsters with an acute sense of hearing, and while not much is known about the sequel as of yet, it is believed Brian Tyree Henry and Cillian Murphy will be joining the cast.
Brian’s role is not yet know, while Cillian will play “a man with mysterious intentions who joins the family unit”.
Meanwhile, John previously claimed that he never intended to make a sequel and was “mind-tricked” into writing his idea for the next movie.
He said: “I’ll be honest with you: I really didn’t want to do the sequel. It was never built to launch sequels, which we all knew, and the studio knew too. But also, I’m a realist.
“I know that when you have a success like this, everyone wants to make another one. I told them to go find another filmmaker and writer, and they said, ‘But don’t you have an idea?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I have a tiny idea,’ so they said, ‘OK, while we’re talking to other people, keep thinking about it’. They basically mind-tricked me into wanting to write it.”
‘A Quiet Place 2’ is scheduled for release in May 2020.

Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach to co-write Barbie

OHMYGOSSIP — The ‘Barbie’ film will be co-written by Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach.
The ‘Lady Bird’ and ‘Little Women’ helmer and the 49-year-old filmmaker – who have been dating since 2011 – have been signed up by Warner Bros. to pen the script.
According to Variety, Greta is also being eyed to direct the live-action flick about Mattel’s iconic toy doll.
Margot Robbie has been cast to play the titular role in the upcoming film, which will follow Barbie as she is expelled from Barbie Land for failing to live up to the expectations of its residents.
It will also be produced through the ‘Suicide Squad’ star’s Lucky Champ production company, alongside Mattel and Warner Bros.
The 29-year-old actress previously admitted it is an honour to portray Barbie who she believes has promoted empowerment and “self-discovery”.
She said: “Playing with Barbie promotes confidence, curiosity and communication throughout a child’s journey to self-discovery.
“Over the brand’s almost 60 years, Barbie has empowered kids to imagine themselves in aspirational roles from a princess to president. I’m so honoured to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide. I can’t imagine better partners than Warner Bros. and Mattel to bring this film to the big screen.”
Other than Barbie, the rest of the cast is yet to be revealed, but Margot’s ‘Mary Queen of Scots’ co-star Saoirse Ronan recently admitted she would love to be a part of the movie.
The 25-year-old actress was delighted to find out her friend was taking on the role and asked her if she can be her co-star again.
In a joint interview, Saoirse said: “Are you doing Barbie? F**k yes. Maybe I can be your weird friend.
“We need to be in more than one scene together next time.”
And the Australian star was open to the idea.
She said: “I’m going to make it my life’s mission.”

EastEnders’ Kim Fox to leave Walford?

OHMYGOSSIP — EastEnders’ Kim Fox could be set to leave Walford.
The outspoken salon worker – played by Tameka Empson – is expected to tell sister Denise Fox (Diane Parish) that she is planning to swap Albert Square for Scotland in the coming weeks.
Kim is keen to start a new life in the country after being left devastated when her husband Vincent Hubbard (Richard Blackwood) disappeared from Walford in April 2018.
In October, Tameka hinted Richard could make a return to the BBC One soap to reprise his role as Kim’s beloved Vincent, who was last seen trapped in a car with one of evil Aidan Maguire’s (Patrick Bergin) cronies pointing a gun at him.
She said: “Where is he? I don’t know. There are lots of answers that will come about come Christmas.”
However, there is still no sign of Vincent.
Just days after his final appearance as Vincent, Richard admitted he was “surprised” his ‘EastEnders’ contract was not renewed and said it was “scary” departing the show.
When asked if he was surprised about being let go, he said: “I was a little bit surprised, but my agent and myself wanted me to leave at a similar time, so it worked out to be mutual.
“The timing couldn’t have been better. It’s a great platform and it’s regular work, which in the world of acting is a great feeling.
“To leave that is always a scary thing but we believed and knew that we have enough.
“I have a lot of respect for ‘EastEnders’ – they took the risk when they cast me.”

Lucie Donlan reveals Love Islanders get McDonald’s and pamper days

OHMYGOSSIP — Lucie Donlan has revealed the Islanders are treated to McDonald’s and pamper sessions “every two or three weeks” on ‘Love Island’.
The blonde beauty was dumped from the ITV2 dating show during last week’s recoupling, and she has spilled the details on what life is like inside the famous villa on their days off.
Speaking to Roman Kemp, 2018 winner Dani Dyer and Vick Hope on ‘Capital Breakfast’, she shared: “Every two or three weeks we’d have nails, hair, that kind of thing done. And we’d get a Maccies as well.
“Being in there that long, the nights are very long and no one sees how long they are, so you need a bit of a down day and a bit of a chill.”
It’s not all glamorous though, as they also had to do their own cleaning.
But the 21-year-old surfer admitted they needed the “break” to “stop talking about feelings”.
She added: “We had one day where everybody cleaned the house, it was like a proper family cleaning – the guys did the downstairs and made all the beds and then the girls did the showers and washed upstairs – we had a chill day wearing baggy clothes and chill pyjamas.
“It was so nice, you need those days in there because sometimes you need a break and you stop talking about feelings and all that – you just have a bit of a muck around, it’s really nice.”
Meanwhile, Lucie – who was coupled up with Joe Garratt – admitted she grew fond of boxer Tommy Fury, who is partnered with Molly-Mae Hague.
She said: “I went with how I felt at that moment and I knew it was right for me at that time so I would never change a thing.”
Asked why she ended up picking Joe – who she recently reunited with on sister show ‘Love Island: Aftersun’ and has hinted a a future with – over Tommy, she explained: “When I was first in there Tommy was very serious, I just didn’t really fancy him and it was the lifestyle I quite liked about Tommy, I was like on the outside we’d really work.
“And I kind of questioned it but with Joe I just fancied him straight away, really liked him straight away. And I couldn’t be fake in there.”
Tune in to ‘Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp’, weekdays from 6am – 10am.

Tamer Hassan blasts ‘disrespectful’ Anton Danyluk

OHMYGOSSIP — Tamer Hassan has blasted Anton Danyluk as “disrespectful and disloyal”.
The ‘Football Factory’ hardman has hit out at the ‘Love Island’ hunk for the way he’s treated his daughter Belle Hassan, and he defended the way his girl reacted after Anton gave his number to a shop assistant and kissed Anna Vakili during a challenge.
He told The Sun Online: “Anton is 100 per cent wrong for kissing Anna. It was disrespectful and disloyal, two of Belle’s biggest hates.
“I am now doubting Anton’s feelings for Belle and that makes me an unhappy dad.”
The 51-year-old star wasn’t happy with Anton’s “behaviour”, and he thinks it will take a lot of work for him to make things right with Belle.
He insisted: “On the outside Belle would not tolerate that behaviour. If Anton genuinely has feelings for my daughter, he’s going to have to work harder to win her back, to gain her trust.”
The ‘Business’ actor previously urged Anton to “be nice” and not mess with his daughter, because if he does anything to upset Belle then the pair will “have a problem”.
He recently warned: “I kept saying ‘Anton, ‘I dare you, I dare you.’ I thought, ‘If you say anything that ain’t true or upset Belle, then mate I am coming in on a helicopter with a parachute and I am picking you up and taking you out.’ ”
This week, the 24-year-old gym owner was forced to sleep on the sofa after an argument with 21-year-old Belle over the weekend, which was started when he chose to smooch Anna during a villa challenge.
But following their row, Anton insisted he wanted to patch things up with the blonde beauty.

Kerri McLean thinks Poldark could’ve introduced black character sooner

OHMYGOSSIP — Kerri McLean says it is “a shame” ‘Poldark’ didn’t introduce a black character sooner.
The actress has joined the cast as Catherine ‘Kitty’ Despard – the former slave wife of Colonel Ned (Vincent Regan) – in the fifth and final season of the BBC period drama, and while she is “grateful” to be part of the show, she thinks it could have happened in an earlier series.
She told the Radio Times magazine: “It’s a shame it’s taken until series five because ‘Poldark’ isn’t just about the middle and upper classes, it’s about the lower classes in a coastal town where they would have had black people.
“But I’m very grateful that Kitty’s there now.”
‘Bodyguard’ star Kerri reflected on the way period dramas are “changing”, and she is glad there are characters being written to represent “unheard voices”.
She explained: “There just aren’t many period dramas that have a character like Kitty. But it is changing, and certainly from when I first started my career, it’s getting better.
“There are more roles being written and these unheard voices are finding a way through. And that’s great.”
She even suggested a Kitty spin-off could be a possibility for the future, to explore more about the character and her story.
Kerri said: “I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with having a black performer in a role that’s written for a white person, but for me, it’s about writing black roles, finding the real voices of a period, those exciting stories and those exciting characters.
“That’s why Catherine is so brilliant – she feels like an unheard voice. I’ve said to [screenwriter] Debbie [Horsfield] that she has more to say – the Kitty spin-off.”
