Gemma Chan: I’ve tried to mask my nerves

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Chan has “worked hard” to mask her nervousness.
The 36-year-old actress – who starred in 2018’s ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ – has claimed that in spite of working in the movie business, she is naturally “shy”.
She shared: “People don’t believe it, but I’m naturally quite shy. I’ve had to work really hard to mask that, not appear anxious or nervous.”
Despite her rise to fame, Gemma remains anxious when she takes to the red carpet.
Speaking to the Observer newspaper, she explained: “I’ve nearly fainted before, because you don’t realise you’re not breathing and all of the flashes start going off in your face.”
The actress explained that she’s developed an alter ego, much like Beyonce’s Sasha Fierce, in order to combat her own nerves.
She said: “In character I feel like I can do anything, really. That’s part of what attracted me to acting.
“But if you ask me to make a speech as me, I find that so difficult. I hate my own birthday, I hate being the centre of attention.”
Meanwhile, Gemma previously slammed the “unrealistic” pressure on women.
The actress believes society places “crazy” expectations on women and girls across the world.
She said: “I think it’s crazy how getting pregnant is drilled into you as the worst thing that could happen to you when you’re a teenager or in your early 20s.
“Then suddenly when you got your mid-30s, the message is that you’re running out of time.
“You essentially have a few years where you’re supposed to meet the right person, settle down and start a family.
“I think that can be quite unrealistic.”

Anton Du Beke angered by Strictly Come Dancing snub?

OHMYGOSSIP — Anton Du Beke was reportedly “livid” after being overlooked for a judging role on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 53-year-old dancer – who is one of the show’s longest-serving stars – was snubbed for the coveted role in favour of Motsi Mabuse, and Anton feels gutted by the BBC’s decision.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Anton has gone out of his way to make it known he wanted the job on the judging panel ever since Darcey Bussell left.
“He felt if they recruited within the ‘Strictly’ family, it should be him. And despite not doing a screen test for the role, he still really thought he had a chance.
“As far as he was concerned, appearing on ‘Strictly’ for 15 series has been his screen test.
“So when the news broke that Motsi was the new judge, he was livid. And he claimed he would quit unless the ‘Strictly’ bosses gave him an ‘enhanced’ position.
“It was a real snub to his pride, especially as this is the second time he’s been overlooked.”
Earlier this year, Anton admitted he’d love to serve as a judge on the hit TV show.
He confessed: “I don’t know if it will be me but if they asked me I would love to. People say they are real fans of mine but we will have to wait and see if they ask me first.”

Emma Barton to join Strictly Come Dancing?

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Barton’s ‘EastEnders’ scenes are being frantically re-written so she can appear on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 42-year-old actress – who plays Honey Mitchell on the BBC soap – has become the latest star to sign up for the new series of ‘Strictly’, leaving ‘EastEnders’ bosses to develop new plotlines for their own show.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Emma was prepared to quit Albert Square in order to dedicate her time to ‘Strictly’, but scriptwriters are trying to think of ways to write her out for a few months instead.
“She is very musical, has natural rhythm, and is sure to do well. She’s also come from a bit of a dance background, so is hopeful this could open new doors.”
Meanwhile, Motsi Mabuse was recently confirmed as the new ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge.
The South African star – whose sister is ‘Strictly’ pro Oti Mabuse – was announced as Dame Darcey Bussell’s replacement for the upcoming series of the show, meaning she will sit on the panel alongside Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas and Bruno Tonioli.
She said: “I am absolutely overjoyed to be joining the ‘Strictly’ judging panel.
“I have so much respect and admiration for the other three judges and hope to add my own bit of sparkle to the show. I can’t wait to get started!”

Caroline Flack set for a ‘substantial pay rise’

OHMYGOSSIP — Caroline Flack is reportedly set for a massive pay hike.
The ‘Love Island’ host – who is now one of the most sought-after stars on British TV – has tripled her salary after landing a £1.2 million-a-year contract with ITV.
A source said: “Caroline negotiates a good deal. She drove a hard bargain. It is thoroughly deserved and she is highly valued at ITV.”
Caroline’s pay rise is, in part, explained by the fact that ‘Love Island’ will soon appear on TV screens twice a year.
Speaking to the Sunday Mirror newspaper, the insider continued: “Her fee for two months each year was £450,000 plus expenses but she’d only agree to commit to both series with a massive pay rise.
“She has really risen up through the ranks at ITV and is a hit on ‘Love Island’.
“She’s part of the furniture – the show wouldn’t be the same without her.”
Caroline, 39, has already spoken enthusiastically about fronting a second series of ‘Love Island’ each year, saying it was “going to be a long, hot winter”.
Meanwhile, Paul Mortimer, the head of digital channels at ITV, said the decision was taken in light of viewer demand.
He explained: “In response to viewer appetite, a new batch of young singletons will deliver some highly anticipated post-Christmas romance and drama from our new and luxurious location.”

Maura Higgins ‘is in line to earn millions’

OHMYGOSSIP — Maura Higgins is in line to earn millions within months of leaving the ‘Love Island’ villa.
The brunette beauty has been one of the star attractions on this year’s edition of the hit show and, according to showbiz agent Dermot McNamara, Maura, Tommy Fury and Curtis Pritchard can all expect to see their bank balance swell after their stints on the programme.
He said: “It’s the standout characters who have the biggest earning potential. Maura has emerged a bit of a feminist heroine so it’s likely she’ll be offered a lot of TV work.
“Tommy will do very well. He can make the most of his boxing background while also doing more reality TV. And he can do some projects with Molly-Mae for as long as they’re a couple.
“Curtis already has a fanbase in Ireland, which he can build on. And everyone adores Ovie, so he’ll do well too.
“Even the less popular contestants like Anton can do quite well if they make the right choices.”
Dermot said money-spinning offers will soon start rolling in for some of the ‘Love Island’ contestants.
He told Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “Those who already have representation will come out to find they have plenty of work already arranged.
“The others will be playing catch-up and will lose out in the long term.”

Anton Danyluk wants Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea to win Love Island

OHMYGOSSIP — Anton Danyluk wants to see Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea win ‘Love Island’.
The 24-year-old gym owner was booted from the ITV2 reality show alongside his partner Belle Hassan during Sunday’s (28.07.19) episode, and with just one day left to go until Monday’s (29.07.19) final, he’s now said he’s keen to see Amber and Greg walk away as this year’s winners.
Speaking after leaving the villa, he said: “I would like to see Amber and Greg win it. Amber has gone through a rollercoaster ride. She had that hard shell and no one could break through. Now she’s come out of the other side and found someone in Greg. Just to see her go through that experience, she’s one of the strongest women I’ve ever met. I’d love her and Greg to win. Greg has blown her off her feet and it would be an amazing love story.”
And 21-year-old Belle agreed, as when asked the same question, she also named Amber and Greg as her winners.
She said: “Amber and Greg. Absolutely 100 percent. I adore Amber and Greg is such a lovely guy. What they have is genuine and it’s so rare for Amber to click with someone straightaway and they did. I love Amber, she’s fantastic, an amazing person. Greg is man enough to take whatever Amber has to give, and he gives it back but he’ll let her win. They look fantastic together.”
Amber has become a favourite to win the competition after she had her heart broken by former islander Michael Griffiths earlier in the series.
But she and Greg face strong competition from Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury – who are the only official couple in the final four – Ovie Soko and India Reynolds, and Maura Higgins and Curtis Pritchard.
Meanwhile, despite being dumped from the villa one day before the final, Anton and Belle are hoping to continue their romance off screen.
Belle said: “We’ll take things day by day and see how it goes, but the future looks good. We’ve been genuine, real and try to ourselves. We haven’t faked anything. We haven’t allowed ourselves to get wrapped up in it all, we’re realistic about things. It’s cemented a solid foundation and we can hopefully get through the challenges of missing each other. The future looks good.”
‘Love Island’ concludes on Monday at 9pm on ITV2.

Anton Danyluk and Belle Hassan booted from Love Island

OHMYGOSSIP — Anton Danyluk and Belle Hassan have been booted from the ‘Love Island’ villa.
The couple narrowly missed out on a place in the final on Monday (29.07.19), after they became the last couple to leave the ITV2 reality show during Sunday (28.07.19) night’s show.
Anton and Belle met during the annual Casa Amor shakeup earlier in the series, and despite having their ups and downs, were thought to be strong contenders to walk away as champions.
The 24-year-old gym owner found himself in hot water with Belle after he gave his number to a shop assistant and then kissed fellow islander Anna Vakili during a challenge, but the pair eventually settled their differences.
This weekend, Anton was introduced to Belle’s famous father Tamer Hassan, who had previously publicly slammed the Scottish hunk for being “disrespectful” to Belle.
Tamer had said: “Anton is 100 percent wrong for kissing Anna. It was disrespectful and disloyal, two of Belle’s biggest hates.
“I am now doubting Anton’s feelings for Belle and that makes me an unhappy dad! On the outside Belle would not tolerate that behaviour.
“If Anton genuinely has feelings for my daughter, he’s going to have to work harder to win her back, to gain her trust.”
The ‘Football Factory’ star appeared on the show as part of the annual Family Day, where Islanders are visited by their parents, who get to give their child’s partner a grilling live on TV.
Anton and Belle’s dumping means that Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury, Maura Higgins and Curtis Pritchard, Ovie Soko and India Reynolds, and Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea are the final four couples battling it out for the £50,000 prize fund.
‘Love Island’ concludes on Monday (29.07.19) at 9pm on ITV2.

Mark Wahlberg joins Arthur the King

OHMYGOSSIP — Mark Wahlberg has signed up to ‘Arthur the King’.
The 48-year-old actor is to appear in the real-life adventure story about a titular stray dog who was adopted by Swedish adventure racer Mikael Lindnord during an endurance race in Ecuador.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wahlberg will take on the role of Lindnord, whose book ‘Arthur: The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home’ will be adapted by Paramount Players for the project.
The adventurer found the injured pooch during the 400-mile race in the jungle, and after the committed canine followed him through some tough terrain he adopted him and brought him back to Sweden.
Michael Brandt – who penned ‘3:10 to Yuma’ – has written the script for the film, and Mark Canton, Tucker Tooley, Courtney Solomon and Tessa Tooley will all produce the motion picture.
It looks set to be a busy year for Wahlberg after it was reported last month he is being lined up to take over Chris Evans’ role in ‘Infinite’.
Evans signed up to the movie in February but had to pull out due to scheduling issues, and Wahlberg is being tipped to take his place in the mystery film helmed by Antoine Fuqua for Paramount Pictures.
It will be penned by John Lee Hancock and Ian Shorr, who are adapting D. Eric Maikranz’s 2009 novel, ‘The Reincarnationist Papers’.
And in May, it was revealed Wahlberg has joined ‘Scoob’.
The ‘Daddy’s Home 2’ star will voice superhero Blue Falcon in the new Warner Bros. animated Scooby-Doo movie based on the iconic children’s cartoon.

Belle Hassan wants Anton Danyluk to meet her dog

OHMYGOSSIP — Belle Hassan wants Anton Danyluk to meet her dog before they make their relationship official.
The pair were coupled up in the ‘Love Island’ villa before being dumped just one day before the final during Sunday’s (28.07.19) episode of the ITV2 reality show, and Belle has now said they won’t be making things official between them until she’s had a chance to introduce him to her pet pooch.
When asked what their plans are now they’re out of the villa, Belle said: “With us, I think definitely a few dates. He’s gotta meet my dog, and my brother. I’ve gotta meet your dad. And then … yeah.”
And 24-year-old gym owner Anton added: “It’s just dating on the outside now and seeing how we get on. But we’ve built foundations in the villa, so let’s take it outside and see how we get on.”
The Scottish hunk insists he didn’t ask Belle, 21, to be his girlfriend while they were in the villa because he wants to see how they get on in the real world before they commit to anything serious.
Speaking on ‘Love Island’s spin-off show ‘Aftersun’ on Sunday, he said: “If I’m honest, I’m just a realist in there. Literally I’ve been true to myself the whole way through, and I think you’re spending 24 hours a day with each other in the villa but when you come out that’s not going to be the case. You’ll see each other once or twice a week. So I wanted to see how that would go once we got out. Get the chance to do that, and then once I know after a week or two, then we can move on.”
And Belle agreed, saying she doesn’t take the title of girlfriend “lightly”.
She replied: “It’s all come together so quickly, you’ve gotta test things. And I think it’s not a light comment, saying someone’s your girlfriend or boyfriend. I don’t take that lightly.”

Duncan James ‘signs up’ for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

OHMYGOSSIP — Duncan James has reportedly signed up for ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’.
The Blue star looks set to follow in the footsteps of his bandmates Simon Webbe and Anthony Costa – who competed on the jungle reality show in 2008 and 2005 respectively – after being offered a big money deal with ITV.
Producers were keen to get the 40-year-old hunk on the show as he has previously confessed to having a fear of snakes.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Duncan has been approached in the past for ‘I’m A Celebrity’ but the timing wasn’t right — until now.
“With his good looks and personality, he is the perfect fit for the jungle.
“Producers also think he could be telly gold because he will have to face his phobias head-on.
“The best campmates are the ones who have to overcome their fears — and Duncan has told them he is game for anything.
“Some of his mates think he is totally crazy to go in there, but he has told them the pay packet will make it worthwhile.”
The ‘One Love’ hitmaker previously admitted he would “have a heart attack” if he came into contact with the slithering reptile.
He said: “I have a massive phobia of snakes. If I saw one I’d pass out or I’d literally pee myself.
“I would never, ever be able to put my head in one of those tanks with creatures crawling about. I’d have a heart attack.”
Duncan departed Channel 4 soap ‘Hollyoaks’ last year, after his alter-ego Ryan Knight was seemingly killed off, and the singer starred in ‘Chicago’ in the West End in September.
The boyband member’s attachment to the show comes after sports pundit Ian Wright, 55, was reported to have been offered a six-figure sum to entice him to take part in the show.
An source said in June: “Ian would be a massive signing for ITV who’ve been keen to get him Down Under for a while.
“After watching Harry Redknapp win the last series, Ian has decided he would be up for giving it a whirl.
“He’s been offered a six figure sum to take part. Ian’s not afraid of much but has joked to his pals he’ll be useless at the eating tasks because he’s so fussy.”

Belle Hassan hits out at ‘two-faced’ Molly-Mae Hague for Love Island vote

OHMYGOSSIP — Belle Hassan has hit out at “two-faced” Molly-Mae Hague after she and Anton Danyluk were dumped from the villa.
The ‘Love Island’ star believes her fellow former Islander may have made a “tactical” decision to vote the pair out after only Molly-Mae and her boyfriend Tommy Fury voted for Belle and Anton to leave the villa, resulting in a public vote deciding their fate.
Belle said: “I haven’t watched it back yet, however, I do maybe think that could have been tactical.
“I think Molly has too many opinions sometimes.
“I like Molly, I really get on with Molly, but she can be a little bit two-faced, unknowingly.
“She doesn’t mean it, but she does say that.”
Belle also admitted Anton confronted the other lads to try to find out who voted for him, but she claims Tommy didn’t speak up.
She told The Sun Online: “He tried to be a bit cheeky and ask, ‘Who did you vote for?’ and all the boys looked and said, ‘Not you mate.’
“So I think that would annoy him more than anything that they lied to him.”
Belle and Anton were dumped from the villa just one day before tonight’s (29.07.19) final of the ITV2 show.
Tommy and Molly-Mae are hot favourites to win the series at odds of 4/6, followed by Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea (5/2), Ovie Soko and India Reynolds (4/1), and outsiders Curtis Pritchard and Maura Higgins (50/1).
Amber, Tommy, and Curtis are the only three original Islanders remaining on the final day eight weeks on from the series launch. Greg and India joined the show less than two weeks ago.

Melissa Suffield engaged

OHMYGOSSIP — Melissa Suffield has got engaged.
The former ‘EastEnders’ star – who played Lucy Beale from 2004 to 2010 – took to Instagram to confirm she accepted her significant other Robert Brendan’s proposal.
The 26-year-old star wrote: “#ISaidYaass @mrrobertbrendan. #engaged (sic)”
Melissa’s exciting news comes just three weeks after the former Albert Square resident revealed she and cruise director Robert have gone alcohol free.
She wrote: “Normally you’d find us in a pub on a day like today, but we’re newly booze free and drinking FRAPS. And NOT BEER. #crazy (sic)”
Melissa is no stranger to a loved-up post, and earlier this month admitted she was loving Robert even more by the day.
She wrote: “I love this man more and more every day.”
Melissa joined ‘EastEnders’ after starring in ‘Agatha Christie’s Poirot’ and ‘Magic Grandad’, in which she played respective characters called Melissa and Lucy.
She went on to play another Lucy in ‘EastEnders’ for more than 300 episodes until 2010 when she was axed from the soap.
The character was re-cast two years later with Hetti Bywater taking on the role until 2015 when Lucy was killed off, which prompted a dramatic Who Killed Lucy Beale? whodunit plot.
It was later revealed Lucy’s young brother Bobby Beale – then played by Eliot Carrington – had killed her.
Prior to Melissa and Hetti, Eva Brittin-Snell portrayed a young Lucy from 1993 to 1996, and Casey Anne Rothery took over until 2004.
Following her stint in Albert Square, Melissa has gone on to star in ‘Little Crackers’ and ‘Casualty’.

Amy Walsh’s Emmerdale ‘anxiety’ at fire plot

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Walsh felt “anxious” when she was told her ‘Emmerdale’ character would be involved in a “huge fire”.
The 32-year-old actress’ alter-ego Tracy Metcalfe’s life looks set to hang in the balance when she is trapped in the Sharmas’ factory when a blaze breaks out, and Amy admits she is prepared for her character to be killed off.
She said: “I was told that Tracy was going to be involved in a huge fire at the factory and I was like, ‘No!’
“So I was anxious, because that’s how the soap world is. You have to be prepared for your character possibly being written out one day.”
Amy admits shooting the fire scenes was her biggest challenge as an actor, and it left her needing “a stiff gin” afterwards to steady her nerves.
She added to We Love TV magazine: “It was an intense day on set for me, because I had so much screaming and crying to do.
“When the building exploded I could feel the impact of the blast and the flames were boiling hot.
“It’s 100 per cent the most challenged I’ve been as an actor. It took a toll on me both physically and emotionally.
“I needed a stiff gin to steady my nerves at the end of the day, then switched off at home by watching ‘Love Island’.”
While it’s not known if Tracy will perish in the inferno or not, ‘Emmerdale’ producer Laura Shaw recently admitted the character’s life will “never be the same again” after the fire.
She said: “Will Tracy get out in time? It’s safe to say there are heart-breaking scenes ahead for the villagers and that Tracy’s life will never be the same again.”

Dwayne ‘The Rock Johnson’s mother cried on set of Hobbs and Shaw

OHMYGOSSIP — Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s mother cried on the set of ‘Hobbs & Shaw’.
The 47-year-old star – who spent part of his childhood in Hawaii – has recalled how his mom Ata Johnson burst into tears as she heard her son speak in Samoan, the language of their ancestors, for a long period for the first time and how the cast all appeared around her and gave her a hug.
Appearing on ‘Extra TV’, he said: “She is incredibly proud of the movie.
“It’s the very first time in the history of Hollywood that the Samoan culture has ever been showcased on this scale, so it’s a big deal.
“Within the scene, she never heard me speak in Samoan to this degree. She hears me speaking in Samoan, calling on our ancestors to give us strength … I look over and she is crying so hard.
“When the scene was over, a really beautiful moment — all the boys, the guys that play my brothers in the movie, go over and gave her a hug.
He added that it was: “A memory forever.”
Dwayne – who plays protagonist Luke Hobbs in the spin-off of the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise – made a surprise visit to a protest in Hawaii just last week.
The ‘Skyscraper’ actor joined those campaigning against the building of the Thirty Meter Telescope on Mauna Kea’s summit and told them he “stands with” their peaceful protest.
He told the crowd he felt honoured to be part of the protest, which objects to the telescope because of concerns it will harm land sacred to Native Hawaiians.
As dancers performed the hula and chanted, he said: “I stand with you.
“This is such a critical moment and a pivotal time. Because the world is watching.”
He also told reporters: “What I realised today … it’s bigger than the telescope. It’s humanity. It’s the culture. It’s our people, Polynesian people, who are willing to die here to protect this land.
“This very sacred land that they believe in so powerfully.”
The protest – which is blocking a road to prevent construction crews from reaching the summit – is now into its 10th day and Hawaii County Mayor Harry Kim, who is the governor’s envoy to the protesters, is in the process of organising a meeting with Native Hawaiian leaders.
He voiced his fears there will be a “very splintered community” if he can’t get people to work together for what he hopes will be a common goal.
He added: We do not want this to become the cause of a polarised community. That to me is a main issue here.”
The mayor recalled saying a silent prayer after receiving a call from the governor appealing for his help and hopes he can “do the right thing for the right reasons.”
But he has no time frame for when he plans to conclude the talks, just “as soon as possible”.

Love Islanders have 2 ‘nothing days’ ahead of finale

OHMYGOSSIP — The ‘Love Island’ stars have two “nothing days” in the lead up to tonight’s (29.07.19) final.
Dr. Alex George – who appeared on last year’s fourth series and was dumped two days before the finale – says the Islanders will not have had anything to do on camera yesterday (28.07.19) and today in the run up to the ITV2 dating show’s conclusion, because they are so ahead of the viewing public.
He told the Racing Post newspaper: “When I left in the episode before the final last year, I was put into a holding villa for 48 hours because there was a gap between the show when I left and the final.
“I think they are at least three days ahead at this point in the series. For example, this year, because the final is on the Monday night, the Sunday this week and the Monday morning will be absolutely nothing days for the islanders.”
The 28-year-old A&E doctor also claims the show’s lie detector test was “so inaccurate”, so much so he is glad ITV bosses decided to axe the element for this year’s series.
He added: “It is for the best they are not doing the lie detector test this year because it simply does not work. It was so inaccurate.
“Some of the things they said were true and false didn’t match up with what we felt was happening on the inside.
“I can’t remember what it was but I answered a question truthfully and it said it was false.
“The more you protest, the more everyone thinks you’re definitely lying.
“Detectors which measure pulse or respiratory rate aren’t that accurate quite frankly. I am glad it has gone, hopefully forever.”

Iain Stirling drops huge hint he will voice winter Love Island

OHMYGOSSIP — Iain Stirling has appeared to confirm he will voice a winter ‘Love Island’, which will air “sooner than you ever thought”.
The ‘Love Island’ narrator dropped a huge hint he will be continuing as the voice of the ITV2 dating show when the programme moves to two series a year from 2020, and he has teased fans to expect the series to be “enjoyable”.
When asked if he is packing for South Africa 2020, he told ‘Good Morning Britain’: “It’s going to be an absolute blast. Winter ‘Love Island’.
“‘Love Island’ is going to come back sooner than you every thought, and it’s going to be enjoyable.”
Iain and show host Caroline Flack have yet to be confirmed by ITV as remaining on the show for the new installment.
The fifth series – which is filmed in Majorca – will come to an end tonight (29.07.19).
Last week, Paul Mortimer, Head of Digital Channels and Acquisitions at ITV, confirmed ‘Love Island’ will air twice a year from 2020.
He said: “Off the back of a record-breaking year, we’re delighted to be bringing an extra series of our biggest and sunniest show to the 2020 schedule. ‘Love Island’ has proven yet again to be the perfect format that engages younger audiences. In response to this viewer appetite, a new batch of young singletons will deliver some highly anticipated post-Christmas romance and drama from our new and luxurious location.”
Angela Jain, Managing Director ITV Studios Entertainment, added: “We love making ‘Love Island’ for ITV2. The show’s success is testament to the magnificent production team that decamp to Mallorca every year to deliver the award-winning show with its trademark warmth, wit and wide-ranging appeal.
“And now 2020 is going to have even more love than before.”
