OHMYGOSSIP — James Hooton almost quit ‘Emmerdale’ after bosses rejected his plea for better storylines.
The 46-year-old actor has played Sam Dingle since 1995, but he nearly called time on his stint on the ITV soap over frustrations about his character’s plots.
He told the Sunday People newspaper: “The character I play went through a very lean period and it got to the stage I started to dislike my job.
“I didn’t have much to do. I was young and ambitious and I wanted to do more work.
“I asked if there was a chance to get involved in more stories. To put it bluntly, I was told ‘Is there f**k.’
“It left me in no doubt I was not going to be a character who drove stories in the show. I hated my job for a while. I had a lot of things to work out in my brain.”
James admitted he was left with a decision to make because he had to either find other “work and challenges”, or do his best with his current role.
He decided to remain with the show, but made sure to focus on his personal life when he’s off set.
James added: “I decided to stay with the show and take work home as little as possible.”
Last summer, the star admitted he hasn’t always enjoyed playing Sam, but he has never left because he “doesn’t have ambitions to go elsewhere”.
While praising co-star Karen Blick – who plays his on-screen partner Lydia Hart – he previously said: “Pay cheques always help! I don’t have ambitions to go elsewhere and do other acting roles, so it was always the choice of, ‘Could I go elsewhere and start another career path or can I try and stay here and enjoy my time here?’
“Like I say, I’m enjoying my time here.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Cate Blanchett is set to star in Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Nightmare Alley’.
The 50-year-old actress is reportedly set to star alongside Bradley Cooper in the adaptation of William Lindsay Gresham’s 1947 novel of the same name, in which the acclaimed filmmaker will take a step back from directing and will instead produce.
‘Nightmare Alley’ follows Stanton ‘Stan’ Carlisle, a man who joins a travelling carnival where he attempts to learn the ways of mind-reading act of Mademoiselle Zeena and her alcoholic husband, Pete.
Following Pete’s death, Zeena takes on Pete as a stage-partner where he proves more successful than her late husband and soon graduates to full-blown spiritualist, catering to the needs of the rich and gullible in their well-upholstered homes.
According to the book’s official synopsis, the story is a “dark jewel, a classic American tale about the varieties of deception and self-deception and the dream of redemption – a dream that is only a nightmare in disguise”.
According to Collider, Toni Collette, Richard Jenkins, Willem Dafoe, Mark Povinelli, Rooney Mara and Guillermo’s friend and frequent collaborator Ron Perlman are all in various stages of making deals to appear in the film which is due to start shooting next year.
Guillermo’s next project is the big screen adaptation of Alvin Schwartz’s collection of short horror stories ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’ and the director previously insisted he was keen to take on the challenge as soon as production company CBS Films approached him as he is such a big fan of the book.
‘The Shape of Water’ filmmaker – who is acting as producer on the project – said: “When CBS Films approached me about doing this movie, I was really excited. They’d done two screenplays before, but I said, ‘Let’s start from scratch.’
“I have this idea that’s very relevant to today. It’s an interesting way to see how stories shape who we are; about how once you release a story, you can’t get it back.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis Presley biopic has been given a release date.
It has been announced by Warner Bros. that the forthcoming movie about the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, is slated for release on October 1, 2021, and the director is keen to begin production on the project later this year.
This news comes after it was confirmed that Austin Butler will play the iconic musician, beating Harry Styles, Ansel Elgort, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Miles Teller, who were all screen-tested for the role.
Luhrmann will direct the movie and has penned the script along with Craig Pearce, and the filmmaker previously said he was keen to hire a relatively unknown actor to play the late ‘Hound Dog’ hitmaker – who died in 1977 aged 42 at his Graceland estate.
Speaking of the casting, Luhrmann previously said: “I knew I couldn’t make this film if the casting wasn’t absolutely right, and we searched thoroughly for an actor with the ability to evoke the singular natural movement and vocal qualities of this peerless star, but also the inner vulnerability of the artist.
“Through a journey of extensive screen testing and music and performance workshops, I knew unequivocally that I had found someone who could embody the spirit of one of the world’s most iconic musical figures.”
Tom Hanks is currently on board to play Presley’s former manager Colonel Tom Parker who spotted Elvis’ talent in the early 1950s, initially helping him with bookings and promotion before becoming his manager.
He went on to arrange the music legend’s deal with RCA, and the singer’s first single with the label ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ set him on the path to super-stardom after it was released in January 1956.

OHMYGOSSIP — Amber Gill would move to Ireland for Greg O’Shea.
The ‘Love Island’ winners are stronger than ever since they triumphed on the ITV2 dating show and Amber has confessed she could move from Newcastle to Limerick one day if their romance works out.
Asked how they feel about the distance on ‘Love Island: The Reunion’, Greg said: “It’s not a problem at the moment as we’re both so busy. Plus, there are planes every hour – it’s really not a big thing for us.”
And Amber added: “Yeah, it doesn’t take long to get there, but I could always move to Ireland.”
Amber previously revealed she hopes her ‘Love Island’ win has inspired other women not to take back their love rat exes after Michael Griffiths dumped her in favour of islander Joanna Chimonides.
She said: “I definitely want girls to be strong and do what they want to do and don’t go back to people that hurt you. You don’t have to, even if it seems easier, so I’m glad I’ve inspired people – it makes me really happy … There definitely was a few points where I really wanted to go. In the real world you don’t have to watch your ex crack on with a new person. It was hard just to watch and you feel quite lonely. I’m glad I stuck it out. It made me stronger and I’ve come out better off.”
And Greg is hopeful he and Amber can carry on with their romance outside the villa.
He said: “I’m a big believer you only date somebody if you can see potential with them, otherwise you’re wasting your time. It’s only been a couple of weeks but it’s been great so far.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Black Adam’ movie could start production next year.
The film’s producer Hiram Garcia has revealed there are plans to begin filming the movie about the DC Comics’ super villain by the end of 2020.
Garcia told Collider: “Definitely the success of ‘Shazam!’ was awesome to us. It was important for us to launch that and get that out in the film world and begin crafting this universe. It’s a big thing for us to start to create this universe, this DC section of the universe that we’re working on with characters we have planned to bring into it, headlined by Shazam and Black Adam. The idea is that if everything falls in line right now … the plan is to be filming that end of next year.”
Johnson previously admitted he couldn’t wait to get started on the forthcoming movie.
He said: “The challenges and the struggle that we were having and that was gnawing at my gut is that we were trying to tell two origin stories in one script. Those who know the comic books and the mythology of the comics of ‘Shazam!’ know that Shazam is connected to Black Adam. Black Adam is an anti-hero, or villain, who I cannot wait to play. I’ve been developing this, and it’s been with me and my DNA for over 10 years now. We should start shooting that in about a year. Very excited about that.”
Black Adam was originally slated to appear in the ‘Shazam!’ movie but director David F. Sandberg decided against making the character the main villain because he needed his own origin story and he wanted his film to be “about Shazam”.

OHMYGOSSIP — Jade Goody thought her cervical cancer was punishment for her ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ race row.
The late reality star – who was accused of racism and bullying directed at Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty 12 years ago – passed away in 2009 aged 27, and while she later apologised, her mum Jackiey Budden has now said she was haunted by the controversy until her death.
Speaking in Channel 4’s upcoming documentary series ‘Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain’, she said: “One night she felt really scared because, obviously, she knew she was going very soon.
“She said, ‘Mum I feel like they’re coming to get me. They’re coming to get me. It’s going all dark’. She said, ‘Is that because I was so bad in ‘Big Brother?’ ”
Jade appeared in the ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ house five years after her 2002 stint in the civilian version, and she became the first of the show’s housemates to become a millionaire as she enjoyed success on television before the racism row.
Also in the documentary, the reality programme’s original host Davina McCall paid tribute to the late star, and admitted she couldn’t believe how quickly Jade suffered a fall from grace.
According to The Sun newspaper, she said in the doc: “I felt such enormous joy at Jade’s popularity. Then, ‘Oh my God, what happened? How can it all turn in a nanosecond? She’s now become the most hated girl in Britain?’ ”
Since Jade’s death, her ex Jeff Brazier has brought up the pair’s two sons – Bobby, 15, and Freddie, 14 – and in the film he explained how she deliberately turned her final days into a “circus” to make as much money as she could for her kids’ future.

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Spitting Image’ could be set for a TV return after Boris Johnson became the British Prime Minister.
Bosses are said to have been plotting a US pilot for the hugely popular satirical puppet show – which aired on ITV from 1984 to 1996 – and production company Avalon Television is said to be keen to take on both Boris and US President Donald Trump.
An insider told the Mail on Sunday newspaper: “When Boris was elected Tory leader and they realised they had the Boris Johnson and Donald Trump show on their hands, there was a real injection of enthusiasm and things started to happen.
“There isn’t a broadcast date as yet and, while it was primarily aimed at the US market because of the Trump factor, Boris Johnson’s election has put it right back in the frame for the UK.
“There is a fantastic vibe around the production because of the legendary status of the show, even though it is early days.”
The original programme ran for 18 series over 12 years, with viewing figures frequently hitting 15 million.
The show’s popularity stemmed from mock depictions of famous figures, including the likes of Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan.
Earlier this year, John Lloyd – who produced the original show – suggested that the current political climate would give the team plenty of material to work.
He said: “In this particular climate, I think it’s about time ‘Spitting Image’ had a comeback.
“We have slightly lost our sense of humour in this climate and no one dares speak to anyone.
“‘Spitting Image’ is very good at airing the issues in a way that make people laugh about them.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jess Glynne and Hanson will appear in ‘Neighbours’ next week.
The 29-year-old singer is set to star in the Australian soap opera as she takes to the stage to entertain the Ramsay Street characters at the Live @ Lassiter’s Music Festival, and the star was delighted to join the cast.
Jess – who will be sharing the screen with actors Stefan Dennis (Paul Robinson) and Bonnie Anderson (Bea Nilsson) – admitted her cameo role is a real “bucket list moment”.
She said: “It’s one of those things that I just couldn’t ever imagine doing so I have really had a bucket list moment and to be able to sing on the show is amazing.”
The music festival episodes kick off on August 12, and ‘MMMBop’ hitmakers Hanson – made up of brothers Isaac, Zac and Taylor Hanson – are set to deliver an impromptu performance in Harold’s cafe for one of the soap’s loved-up couples.
Taylor added: “We fitted into a story that was written around us performing so it worked really well. We feel quite honoured.”
Jess filmed her scenes earlier this year when she was on a promotional tour Down Under, and as a lifelong fan of the show she was thrilled to be taking part.
She said at the time: “I’ve been watching ‘Neighbours’ since I was a little kid, I grew up with up it, it was always there so it’s a very surreal experience to be here on the set and be actually acting.
“My family are so, so excited I’m doing it, it’s a huge moment for them.”
Jess and Hanson aren’t the only music acts to have popped up in Erinsborough over the years.
Lily Allen appeared as herself on the show in 2009, as did The Wombats in the same year, and Emma Bunton, Sinitta, and Paula Abdul have all made cameos.
Two of the most famous singers to have appeared in ‘Neighbours’ did so before they had launched music careers.
Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan initially shot to fame on the show as lovebirds Charlene and Scott Robinson.
What’s more, Natalie Imbruglia appeared as Beth Brennan in ‘Neighbours’ in the early 90s, and began a singing career after leaving the soap.

OHMYGOSSIP — Louisa Lytton thinks Max Branning has met his match with her character Ruby Allen on ‘EastEnders’.
The 30-year-old actress thinks her alter-ego Ruby – who she returned to play in 2018 after 12 years away from the BBC One soap – can give Jake Wood’s bad boy character a run for his money after the pair sparked a recent romance.
She said: “[Ruby’s] been through a lot, but she’s back on the other side now, and I think it’s going to be quite a good partnership. Max might finally be out-Maxed.”
The soap star – who first played Ruby in 2005 – is excited to be sharing so many scenes with Jake, and she admitted their pairing gives her more opportunities in the limelight.
She told The Sun on Sunday’s Fabulous magazine: “Jake is such a good actor. I love working with him. We get on so well. Obviously I knew him years ago when I was a lot younger, but it doesn’t feel weird.
“There’s no discomfort. I’m really loving it. For me it’s great because he’s such a popular character, so to be put with him really centres Ruby.”
The surprise affair has been praised by Lacey Turner – who has played Stacey Fowler on and off since 2004 – as her character’s former on-screen flame Max has hooked up with her alter-ego’s best friend.
Lacey recently said: “[Stacey] definitely didn’t see that one coming! Stacey would never have put them together in a million years.
“I’m not sure Stacey knows how to feel about it, one of her oldest friends with the man she once loved. It’s a great twist.
“Max and Ruby have been through a lot over the years and have had huge challenges to overcome, so they have that in common.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Hugh Jackman denied that Robbie Williams will appear in ‘The Greatest Showman’ sequel.
It was rumoured the 50-year-old actor would be creating a special role for the ‘Let Me Entertain You’ singer in the hotly-anticipated follow up to last year’s musical smash hit after Robbie joined him on the UK leg of his ‘The Man. The Music. The Show’ tour.
However, the leading man has revealed that the ‘X Factor’ judge will not be featuring in the sequel to the original film, which starred Jackman as circus owner P. T. Barnum.
A spokesperson for the actor told the Metro.co.uk: “There is no truth to this story”.
Speculation began after an insider claimed Jackman could be using his producer power to land his new pal a role in the film after the formed a bond on the road.
The source said: “The Robbie and Hugh bromance is just going from strength to strength, Hugh wants space to be made for them to do a number and sing and act in his ‘Greatest Showman’ sequel.”
The ‘Logan’ star previously revealed that “work” has begun on a sequel to ‘The Greatest Showman’ but he is “not sure” exactly how that will work.
He said: “The real answer is ‘could be’. I’m not sure. I’m being completely honest with you, there is talk of something going around but no one is really sure. I think right now there’s more emphasis being put on what will happen with it … No one is really sure right now, so that’s the honest truth.
“But I think someone is working on a treatment for something … I know they are, they’re working on a treatment for something.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Emmerdale’s factory fire will put pressure on Jai Sharma’s relationship with Laurel Thomas.
Although the factory boss’ romance with Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) has only recently been revealed, Chris Bisson – who plays Jai – says the blaze at the building will put their relationship under a great deal of stress.
Speaking to Digital Spy, he explained: “It goes on for a while and it is a good story. You’ll see how it puts pressure on Jai’s relationship with Laurel, which is interesting.
“Jai is in the centre of this swirling whirlpool and he’s been sucked down the vortex in the middle! Whichever way he turns to make things better, it makes things worse in another way.
“Jai is very upset about the factory going up in flames. It was the family business, their livelihoods are on the line and this is compounded by other elements too.
“[Jai’s father] Rishi (Bhasker Patel) had turned off the fire alarm before the accident and he’s also taken a loan. The factory staff are all out of work and asking if they’re going to get paid. The insurance is potentially an issue.”
Although Laurel and Jai are in for a rocky road, Chris, 44, is pleased that viewers are happy about their relationship.
He recently said: “It all seems to be very positive. I haven’t heard anything otherwise, so I’m really pleased with that.
“It’s nice because I’m now working with a slightly different character set, with Laurel’s children and Duncan, who plays Laurel’s dad.
“So there is a really nice dynamic there, there’s lots to play off, and a lot of good comedy stuff as well.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Rosa Salazar would definitely return for an ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ sequel.
In Robert Rodriguez’s 2019 sci-fi blockbuster, the 34-year-old actress portrayed the titular heroine Alita, a cyborg who awakens in a new body with no memory and sets out to learn her past and her destiny.
Rosa would reprise her role “’til her last breath” if she was asked to return for a follow-up film.
When asked in an interview with SlashFilm about returning to the character, she said: “I would play Alita ’til my last breath.”
The film used CGI to create the cyborg warrior and Rosa explained that due to the nature of the technology, a second film wouldn’t be subject to the usual time restraints.
She said: “I would, and thanks to the performance capture technology, I probably could.”
The ‘Bird Box’ star hasn’t heard any news about the possibility of another movie, but urged fans to continue showing the film support.
She said: “Not yet, but buy those Blu-rays, on Amazon. But no, I haven’t heard anything yet.”
Rosa’s experience voicing Alita helped her get into character for her recent animated Amazon television series ‘Undone’ in which she portrays lead character, Alma.
She said: “What I’m really excited about right now, in my own career, is this sort of new thing I’ve tapped into where I get to fully lose myself in a character because I’m animated.
“It’s live-action but because the last few things I’ve been doing are animated, I’m able to completely leave this behind, my body behind and exist in this other dimension as a completely different creature.
“These characters, Alita and Alma, are almost their own people because they are in their own dimension.
“So I get to completely transform not with prosthetics, not necessarily with makeup or hair, wardrobe but through this other animation process.”

OHMYGOSSIP — James Russo has joined Sean Penn’s upcoming drama ‘Flag Day’.
The 66-year-old actor has joined the Hollywood star’s forthcoming directorial debut based on Jennifer Vogel’s 2005 memoir ‘Flim-Flam Man: The True Story of My Father’s Counterfeit Life’ – in a cast that will be led by Penn and his daughter, Dylan, along with Josh Brolin and Miles Teller.
Hopper Penn, Norbert Leo Butz, Dale Dickey, Eddie Marsan, Bailey Noble, and Katheryn Winnick will also star in the movie which follows a daughter as she attempts to come to terms with the fact her bank-robber father evaded capture for six months.
The film is slated for release in 2020 and Penn will direct from a script by Tony-winning playwright Jez Butterworth.
The books official synopsis reads: “Jennifer Vogel opened the newspaper and read that her father had gone on the run. John Vogel, fifty-two, had been arrested for single-handedly counterfeiting nearly $20 million in U.S. currency – the fourth-largest sum ever seized by federal agents – and then released pending trial.
“Framed around the six months her father eluded authorities, Jennifer’s memoir documents the police chase – stakeouts, lie detector tests, even a segment on Unsolved Mysteries – and vividly chronicles her tumultuous childhood while examining her father’s legacy.”
William Horberg, Jon Kilik and Fernando Sulichin acting as producers for Wonderful Films, Rahway Road, New Element Films and Clyde Is Hungry Films while Christelle Conan, Anders Erdén, Peter Touche, Phyllis Laing, Devan Towers, Thorsten Schumacher, Vincent Maraval, John Wildermuth, Sidney Kimmel and Allen Liu will executive produce.
James is best known for his work in films such as 1984’s ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ and 1997 hit films ‘The Postman’ and ‘Donnie Brasco’.

OHMYGOSSIP — Tiffany Haddish and Rose Byrne’s upcoming comedy film has been renamed and pushed back.
It was announced earlier this year that the Hollywood stars would be teaming up on a double-hander titled ‘Limited Partners’ – which also stars Salma Hayek – slated for release in June this year, however, it has now been confirmed that the film will roll out in January 2020 and has officially be re-named ‘Like a Boss’.
The movie will be directed by Miguel Arteta from a script written by Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly while Peter Principato, Itay Reiss and Joel Zadak will produce through their Principato-Young Entertainment.
‘Like a Boss’ will follow two best friends, played by Rose and Tiffany, whose relationship is tested when they build a hugely-successful beauty company and are made a big buyout offer from a corporate executive played by Salma.
Ari Graynor, Jacob Latimore, Karan Soni, Jimmy O. Yang, Natasha Rothwell, Jessica St. Clair and Billy Porter will also star in the film.
Tiffany, 34, will next be seen on screen in the New Line adaptation of the DC Comics and Vertigo female-fronted crime comic book series ‘The Kitchen’.
The story follows the story of the wives of Irish mobsters who end up taking over the criminal enterprise after their husbands are arrested and jailed and is being helmed by ‘Straight Outta Compton’ co-writer Andrea Berloff – who is making her directorial debut on the feature.
Rose, 40, will soon lend her voice to upcoming 2019 comedy film ‘Lexi’ written and directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore and also starring Adam DeVine, Alexandra Shipp and Michael Pena.

OHMYGOSSIP — Natalie Ann Jamieson found it “scary” shooting Emmerdale’s factory fire scenes.
The flame-haired star – who plays Amy Wyatt in the ITV soap – admits the segment was so realistic she felt as though she was at a real-life building blaze.
She said: “You do go through the feelings you would if you were at an actual explosion, because it’s happening in front of your eyes. It’s scary.”
One villager will lose their life on tonight’s (01.08.19) double bill when the Sharmas’ factory goes up in flames – but ‘Emmerdale’ stars are remaining tight-lipped about who the tragic Dales resident will be.
Speaking from behind the scenes on ‘Good Morning Britain’, Emma Atkins – who plays Charity Dingle – joked: “Our lips have got to be sealed. We’ve been handcuffed and forced and blackmailed to shut our gobs.”
Chris Bisson’s character Jai Sharma will be left devastated when he and his father Rishi Sharma’s (Bhasker Patel) factory goes up in flames, but the former ‘Coronation Street’ star is shocked the fictional building has lasted 10 years.
He said: “It’s the end of an era and it also marks me being on ‘Emmerdale’ for 10 years.
“That’s when the factory was first introduced, on my birthday 10 years ago.
“It’s been a 10-year cycle. I’m surprised it hasn’t been blown up sooner or burnt down sooner, it’s lasted quite well in Soap World.”
Tracy Metcalfe’s (Amy Walsh) life looks set to hang in the balance when she is trapped in the Sharmas’ factory when the fire breaks out.
‘Emmerdale’ producer Laura Shaw recently said: “Will Tracy get out in time? It’s safe to say there are heart-breaking scenes ahead for the villagers and that Tracy’s life will never be the same again.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Countryfile’s John Craven has blasted the disappearance of rural services.
The 78-year-old TV presenter says the losses of rural shops, schools, post offices, and pubs have left residents “socially isolated”.
He told BBC’s Countryfile magazine: “In particular this has hit the rising number of pensioners who live long distances from surgeries and hospitals and maybe don’t have anyone to keep an eye on them.”
John also called for Britain to be more self-sufficient when it comes to food production.
He said: “No matter what happens over Brexit, I worry for the future of UK food production. It’s vital that we step up our level of self-sufficiency and improve our exports.
“Most farmers are middle-aged to elderly and over the years so many sons and daughters have told me they have no interest in taking over from their parents.”
John firmly believes the Britain needs more young recruits “from non-farming backgrounds” in order to ensure future demands will be met.

Meanwhile, the veteran broadcaster, whose career has spanned five decades, also said he has always been himself on screen, and he loves meeting viewers of the show.
He said: “One joy of being at BBC Countryfile Live every August is to be regarded as a friend by folk I’ve never met before.”
