Big Brother bosses had ‘penetration protocols’ during Channel 4 run

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Big Brother’ had “penetration protocols” during its run on Channel 4.
The reality TV show was aired by the broadcaster for a decade until 2010, and now the programme’s commissioning executive has revealed the team had plans in place when housemates shared a steamy moment.
Speaking in upcoming documentary series ‘Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain’, Peter Grimsdale said: “Channel 4 had this thing – ‘penetration protocols’, which was what to do when there is some kind of sex act live on screen, and it involved a lot of people going into a boardroom and sitting down and saying, ‘What are we going to do about this?’ ”
The three part documentary follows the rise and fall of late reality star Jade Goody – who died in 2009 aged 27 after a battle with cervical cancer – and her fling with fellow 2002 housemate Peter James Ellis caused a bit of a headache for the team behind the scenes.
PJ described their undercover fumble as “the Christmas party snog, but in front of 11 million people”, while Channel 4’s director of programmes Tim Gardam admitted he had a big decision to make at the time.
He added: “I looked at the tape, and it was then the sort of debate you could only have on TV of what to show. It was, what should you show, what shouldn’t you show?”
The documentary series also features host Davina McCall, paid tribute to the late star, and admitted she couldn’t believe how quickly Jade suffered a fall from grace.
According to The Sun newspaper, she said in the doc: “I felt such enormous joy at Jade’s popularity. Then, ‘Oh my God, what happened? How can it all turn in a nanosecond? She’s now become the most hated girl in Britain?’ ”
After ‘Big Brother’ ended on Channel 4 in 2010, it was picked up the following year by Channel 5, where it aired until its conclusion in 2018.

Emmerdale’s Mark Jordon found not guilty

OHMYGOSSIP — Mark Jordon has been found not guilty of affray, unlawful wounding and assault by beating.
The ‘Emmerdale’ actor – known for his role as Daz Spencer – was on trial at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester after his bit Andrew Potts, 68, following a beer garden row on July 1 last year.
The 54-year-old soap star’s girlfriend Laura Norton – who plays Kerry Wyatt on the show – was in tears in the public gallery, while the jury of eight men and four men deliberated the case for almost seven hours.
Jordon had been accused of attacking Potts and assauling his partner Rosalind O’Neill during a row at the Farrars Arms where the actor was celebrating his and Norton’s engagement.
The jury was told that Mr. Potts and Mrs. O’Neill made comments about Jordon’s 18-year-old daughter Poppy, with the soap star alleging he called her a “slag” and said he had video footage of her which he would upload to YouTube.
Although Mr. Potts denied the claims, he said he told Jordon he wouldn’t let Poppy act like that in front of them, and alleged the actor screamed: “I’ll f***ing kill you, you old bastard.”
As shown in CCTV footage, Jordon had to be held back from Mr. Potts, who threw punches at him.
The pair clashed again after the couple left the pub and Jordon confronted them after getting out of a taxi.
The court heard that the actor bit the pensioner on the thumb and palm of his hand, and the pair fell to the ground where he bit his eyebrow.
However, Jordon said he bit him in self-defence after he was attacking, adding: “It was not planned, regretful and in the moment. It was pure instinct.”
Judge Mark Savill addressed the jurors before they were sent to consider their verdicts, and said: “Mark Jordon is an actor. You try this case, please, only on the evidence you have seen and heard in this trial.
“Somebody’s job has no relevance to that and you will treat Mr Jordon in the same way as you would any member of the public, save where his occupation is relevant.”

Love Island’s Anton claims he and Molly-Mae ‘never saw eye to eye’

OHMYGOSSIP — Love Island’s Anton Danyluk has refused to follow Molly-Mae Hague back on Instagram, insisting they “never even spoke” during their time in the villa.
The 24-year-old gym owner unfollowed the 19-year-old social media influencer on the photo-sharing site after his management company started following her while he was in the villa – and he won’t be sliding into her DMs anytime soon.
When asked about why he unfollowed Molly-Mae during Sunday night’s (04.08.19) ‘Love Island Reunion’, Anton said: “A lot of people have been saying it’s because we were voted [out] by Molly and Tommy. Listen, in there we have to make very hard decisions where you have to vote for your friends and it’s not a nice situation at all, so it’s nothing to do with that. Me and Belle were voted out by the public.
“What happened is, when we’re in there, our management or whoever is running our Instagram follows for us. Molly came up on my Instagram and I’m sure Molly will agree with this, we’ve never even spoken in the villa, really.”
In response, Molly-Mae said: “I mean, I didn’t think you weren’t a friend of mine.
“I’m not gonna lie, I thought we were friends.”
However, Anton claimed the two never “had chats” and have “never ever seen eye to eye”.
Friends and managers of the Islanders were responsible for keeping the reality stars’ social media accounts active while they were in the villa.
Anton said: “I never chose to follow Molly. So, if I came out, I wouldn’t have chosen [to follow her].”
When asked whether he would re-follow her now, Anton laughed: “No!”
During Molly-Mae’s interview, she said: “I was shocked. I hadn’t even got my phone back yet and the first thing I see was that Anton had unfollowed me.
“At the end of the day, everyone’s entitled to follow and unfollow who they want to, so it’s not bothered me, but I was just a little bit shocked.”
Anton was accused of unfollowing Molly-Mae after her and boyfriend Tommy Fury put him and Belle Hassan up for the public vote on the show.

Maura Higgins not ‘in love’ with Curtis Pritchard but is ‘getting the feels’

OHMYGOSSIP — Maura Higgins isn’t “in love” with Curtis Pritchard yet – but is “definitely” getting there.
The ‘Love Island’ star finished fourth on the popular ITV2 series alongside the professional dancer – who is the brother of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’s’ AJ Pritchard – and the 28-year-old ring girl insisted the couple are “very happy” and she is looking forward to taking their romance “slow” and finally going on their first proper first date outside of the villa.
Speaking on Monday’s (05.08.19) episode of ‘This Morning’, Maura said: “We’re very happy and we’re taking things slow. He makes me happy, I make him happy.
“In the villa, it’s very different and now we’re out of the villa we want to take things slow and go on dates, we’ve not had out first official date outside the villa yet.
“We just want to do normal things. I’m very happy. I’m not in love yet but I definitely am getting the feels.”
Curtis was previously coupled up with “half-girlfriend” Amy Hart until the pair parted ways when he revealed his head could be turned in the future, and Maura insisted she liked the 23-year-old dancer when she first entered the villa – during which time he was with Amy – but she didn’t want to “step on anyone toes”.
She added: “I just say what I’m thinking, there’s no filter with me. Sometimes I say things that maybe I shouldn’t say but why hide it? I don’t have any regrets, I go for what I want, I say what I want.
“What you haven’t seen is, in week one I actually said, ‘If I came on earlier one I would have went for Curtis,’ but they didn’t show that.
“Lucy [Donlan] knew and even Amy knew. I didn’t want to step on anyone toes and they were strong at the time, but if he was free, I would have went for it.”

Love Island’s Curtis Pritchard and Maura Higgins to live closer to each other

OHMYGOSSIP — Love Island’s Curtis Pritchard doesn’t expect long-distance travel to get in the way of his relationship with Maura Higgins.
The 23-year-old ballroom says the Irish ring girl is preparing to move to London or Manchester, but he is also looking forward to more visits to Ireland.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’, he said: “Maura’s hoping to move to England, either London or Manchester, she doesn’t know just yet. But Ireland’s so close, so easy to get to. So we can literally travel back and forwards. I work a lot in Ireland anyway.
“Maura’s family have welcomed me into their homes, so I’d never have to stay in a hotel.”
The duo were forced to sit next to Curtis’ former “half-girlfriend” Amy Hart during ITV2’s ‘Love Island Reunion’ show on Sunday night (04.08.19), and they were asked questions about Curtis and Amy’s short-lived romance.
The ballroom dancer said: “I rang Amy on Saturday [before the show], I spoke to her already which was really nice. We had a great conversation, a quick conversation, how she’s doing, how I’m doing … I’ve got a lot of respect for Amy, she’s great, she’s amazing.
“It was fractionally awkward to start with, I felt, I hadn’t seen her properly yet and I did have feelings for her.
“It was good. Later on in the after-party it was nice, we got along really well.”
Curtis and Amy broke up after the dancer’s head was turned by Jourdan Riane during Casa Amor, and the 26-year-old air hostess ended up leaving the villa of her own accord.
On spending time away from the cameras, Curtis said: “Since I’ve done all these things [going on walks] with Maura I’ve just got closer and closer.
“I was in bed on my own and I was like, ‘Oh, something’s missing here, this is really weird.’ In the villa we’re always together.”

Awkwafina nearly missed out on The Farewell role

OHMYGOSSIP — Lulu Wang was hesitant to cast Awkwafina as the lead in ‘The Farewell’.
The ‘Posthumous’ filmmaker recently helmed the comedy-drama, which is based on her own life and follows a family who – upon learning their grandmother has only a short while left to live – decide not to tell her and schedule a family gathering before she dies.
The role was given to Awkwafina, but filmmaker Wang revealed that when the producer approached her suggesting the 30-year-old rapper and actress should play a “version of her” in the film, she wasn’t convinced the star would be a good fit.
In an interview with Variety, she said: “[When] my producer brought her name up I was like, ‘Awkwafina, the rapper from Queens? This is who you think should play, I guess, a version of me in a drama? Are we making the same film here?’ ”
However, Wang went on to explain that the audition tape finally convinced her that the ‘Ocean’s 8’ star could give a moving performance.
She added: “There was a quality of both light and dark, where she’s able to make a joke but you kind of feel like, in a way, she’s doing it to mask something deeper.”
Although Wang has made smaller films in the past, the writer and director wouldn’t be averse to making bigger movies, and insisted she would “love” to make a superhero film – although the project would have to have “the right message”.
She explained: “I would absolutely love to do a superhero movie. It just has to be the right one. It has to have the right message.
“Yes, I’m putting it out into the universe. Bring me all the superheroes. Definitely female. I definitely want to do a female superhero.”

Pierce Brosnan to join cast of Eurovision

OHMYGOSSIP — Pierce Brosnan is reportedly set to join the cast of ‘Eurovision’.
The 66-year-old actor is said to be starring alongside Rachel McAdams in Will Ferrell’s new Netflix comedy based around the annual singing contest.
Details about the plot have not yet emerged, but HN Entertainment reports that Brosnan will appear with Ferrell and McAdams, who are said to be playing Icelanders.
The ‘Anchorman’ star will produce the project through his Gary Sanchez Productions company, and he is penning the script with Andrew Steele, while David Dobkin is helming the project.
Filming will be taking place in Iceland and Tel-Aviv, Israel, although no release date has been set by the streaming service.
It was recently announced that and Ferrell Adam McKay had ended their partnership under their Gary Sanchez Productions banner in order to “start anew”, but they confirmed existing projects were set to continue.
The pair teamed up for more than a decade on films such as ‘Vice’, ‘Step Brothers’ and ‘Talladega Nights’ – as well as both the ‘Anchorman’ and ‘Daddy’s Home’ franchises – but their working relationship is coming to an end.
While McKay revealed it was “the best time” for the pair to cease their Gary Sanchez Productions business, he insisted it would be “heartbreaking” to never work with Ferrell again, and teased they have an idea “kicking around”.
He said: “We both felt it had got pretty big and it was time to start up anew. It’s the best time.
“We have an idea we’re kicking around right now which we’d love to do. If he and I didn’t work together, that would be heartbreaking. We’re going to do everything we can to make sure that’s not the case.”

Jamie Laing confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Laing has signed up for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The ‘Made in Chelsea’ star is to take part in the BBC One Latin and ballroom show, and revealed he hadn’t even told his mum about taking part in the programme, but he hopes he can make her “proud”.
He said: “I’ve known for about a month. I’m not very good at keeping a secret, especially from my mum. I couldn’t tell my mum.
“So now, ‘Hey, surprise mum!’ She’s very excited. It’s one of those shows that not only you get to learn a talent, but at last she’ll be proud of me.
“It’s an amazing experience, I can’t wait.
“I’ve spoken to a lot of people who have done it in the past and everyone says it’s the scariest but best thing.
“I want to make my mum proud.”
And the 30-year-old star does have some previous contemporary dance experience after studying theatre and performance at university.
Speaking on ‘Loose Women’, he added: “I’ve got a little bit of rhythm, maybe, we’re going to find out.
“I went to Leeds University and I studied theatre and performance, for the first whole year I had to do contemporary dance.
“I was the only guy in my entire year, which sounds amazing, but we did this thing called Summer Time and because I was the only guy I had to be the bulb and the flower, and all the girls were petals.”
Jamie is the 11th celebrity confirmed for this year’s ‘Strictly’.
He will compete against Will Bayley, Michelle Visage, Viscountess Emma Weymouth, Karim Zeroual, Mike Bushell, Catherine Tyldesley, Saffron Barker, David James, Chris Ramsey and Emma Barton for the Glitterball Trophy.
Jamie has starred on ‘Made in Chelsea’ since 2011, and his great-great-grandfather Alexander Grant developed the recipe for the famous McVitie’s Digestive biscuit.

Viscountess Emma Weymouth set for Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Viscountess Emma Weymouth is the eighth celebrity confirmed for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 33-year-old English chef and model – who is married to Ceawlin Thynn, the son of Alexander Thynn, seventh Marquess of Bath – was confirmed on Gaby Roslin’s BBC Radio London show on Sunday (04.08.19) as the latest star to be heading to the dance floor when the BBC Latin and ballroom dance competition returns later this year.
Speaking about joining the show, she said: “I absolutely love watching Strictly every weekend and I can’t believe that I’m getting the chance to be on this series. I know it will be such an amazing experience from start to finish. I can’t wait for the dancing and the fabulous outfits!”
Emma’s inclusion in the show makes her the eighth star to join the lineup this year, alongside the likes of Karim Zeroual, Mike Bushell, Catherine Tyldesley, Saffron Barker, David James, Chris Ramsey and Emma Barton were all announced earlier this week.
Karim, a presenter for CBBC, said: “To be offered the chance to take part in Strictly is dumbfounding, I’m pinching myself…!
“I’m so excited to be Strictlified. I want the lot. The skimpiest of clothes, the widest of flares, the brightest of colours and the tallest Cuban heel a guy can find! The more flamboyant the better… sequins galore please!”
Whilst former England goalkeeper David said: “I’m really excited to be on ‘Strictly’ this year. Not just competing against this year’s stars, but being compared to previous sport stars from previous Strictly seasons. I have some big shoes to fill.”
‘Strictly Come Dancing’ is set to return to screens later this year, and more stars will be announced in the coming weeks.

Curtis Pritchard open to dating a man

OHMYGOSSIP — Curtis Pritchard would be open to dating a man.
The ballroom dancer might be loved-up with his ‘Love Island’ partner Maura Higgins, but the 23-year-old hunk hasn’t ruled out having a romantic relationship with someone of the same sex and admitted he doesn’t like to “put a label” on his sexuality.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, he spilled: “I’ve been with women and I’m with a woman now.
“You can never put a label on anything.
“It’s a cliche to say, but love is blind.
“I can never ever say what will happen in the future.
I wouldn’t rule anything out.”
Curtis shared a smooch with fellow Islander Tommy Fury on the ITV2 dating series and their bromance is even said to have landed them an offer to host their own spin-off show.
According to the Daily Star newspaper, producers see Tommy and Curtis as the new “Chris Hughes and Kem Cetinay”, who appeared on the show’s third series together in 2017 and went on to land a spin-off programme.
Chris and Kem’s ITV2 show, ‘You Vs. Chris & Kem’, aired last summer and saw the pair travel across the UK to take part in a number of challenges sent in via social media.
Curtis and Tommy, 20, shared an emotional chat, culminating in a warm embrace and a kiss during the show.
Meanwhile, the choreographer admitted he decided not to get intimate on screen with Maura in front of the cameras and save the moment until after they left the villa.
And although he admitted it was difficult to control the urge to get steamy under the sheets with the Irish beauty, he insisted there was no pressure from the show to have sex on screen.
He said: “It was worth the wait. I’m glad we did it away from the cameras, but that’s all I’ll say, as a gentleman never kisses and tells.
“I never felt pressured to have sex on TV.
“I didn’t want to show off Maura to the world.
“I was absolutely fine talking about sex, but actually performing it in front of people was next-level stuff.
“Maura understood that and said we were lucky that I have a strong willpower.
“At times you did want to let go under the covers, so I had to remind myself that there were cameras on us.
“It’s human instinct, it’s natural — we’re put on this planet to reproduce, it’s part of us. It was hard not to do it.”

Amber Gill would move to Ireland for Greg O’Shea

OHMYGOSSIP — Amber Gill would move to Ireland for Greg O’Shea.
The ‘Love Island’ winners are stronger than ever since they triumphed on the ITV2 dating show and Amber has confessed she could move from Newcastle to Limerick one day if their romance works out.
Asked how they feel about the distance on ‘Love Island: The Reunion’, Greg said: “It’s not a problem at the moment as we’re both so busy. Plus, there are planes every hour – it’s really not a big thing for us.”
And Amber added: “Yeah, it doesn’t take long to get there, but I could always move to Ireland.”
Amber previously revealed she hopes her ‘Love Island’ win has inspired other women not to take back their love rat exes after Michael Griffiths dumped her in favour of islander Joanna Chimonides.
She said: “I definitely want girls to be strong and do what they want to do and don’t go back to people that hurt you. You don’t have to, even if it seems easier, so I’m glad I’ve inspired people – it makes me really happy … There definitely was a few points where I really wanted to go. In the real world you don’t have to watch your ex crack on with a new person. It was hard just to watch and you feel quite lonely. I’m glad I stuck it out. It made me stronger and I’ve come out better off.”
And Greg is hopeful he and Amber can carry on with their romance outside the villa.
He said: “I’m a big believer you only date somebody if you can see potential with them, otherwise you’re wasting your time. It’s only been a couple of weeks but it’s been great so far.”

Black Adam movie to start filming in 2020?

OHMYGOSSIP — Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Black Adam’ movie could start production next year.
The film’s producer Hiram Garcia has revealed there are plans to begin filming the movie about the DC Comics’ super villain by the end of 2020.
Garcia told Collider: “Definitely the success of ‘Shazam!’ was awesome to us. It was important for us to launch that and get that out in the film world and begin crafting this universe. It’s a big thing for us to start to create this universe, this DC section of the universe that we’re working on with characters we have planned to bring into it, headlined by Shazam and Black Adam. The idea is that if everything falls in line right now … the plan is to be filming that end of next year.”
Johnson previously admitted he couldn’t wait to get started on the forthcoming movie.
He said: “The challenges and the struggle that we were having and that was gnawing at my gut is that we were trying to tell two origin stories in one script. Those who know the comic books and the mythology of the comics of ‘Shazam!’ know that Shazam is connected to Black Adam. Black Adam is an anti-hero, or villain, who I cannot wait to play. I’ve been developing this, and it’s been with me and my DNA for over 10 years now. We should start shooting that in about a year. Very excited about that.”
Black Adam was originally slated to appear in the ‘Shazam!’ movie but director David F. Sandberg decided against making the character the main villain because he needed his own origin story and he wanted his film to be “about Shazam”.

Emily Head doubts there will be a third Inbetweeners movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Emily Head says another ‘Inbetweeners’ movie isn’t likely.
The 30-year-old actress played Carli D’Amato on the cult British sitcom – which spawned two spin-off movies – and although actor James Buckley (Jay Cartwright) said early this year he’d be willing to reunite with his castmates for a third instalment, Emily says it “wouldn’t be the same” and compared the idea to bringing back US series ‘Friends’.
Appearing on ‘Sunday Brunch’, Emily admitted: “I don’t know. I think everyone sort of secretly hopes there will [be], I think we all probably secretly hope there would be, but I think it was such a special thing in the moment that you wouldn’t want to do it and get it wrong [or make something that] wasn’t what people were expecting.
“I think, to look back on something … It’s like if they do ‘Friends’ again now, it wouldn’t be the same. I think it was really of the moment.”
However, James admitted that he would be up for revisiting his outrageous character.
Speaking on Channel 4’s special ‘The Inbetweeners: Fwends Reunited’ programme – which marked 10 years since the hit comedy came out – in January, host Jimmy Carr asked James if he’d agree to another edition of the series, to which he quickly responded with an authoritative “yes”.
Despite the ‘Zapped’ star’s enthusiasm for revisiting the show, the actor – who appeared on the reunion with co-stars Simon Bird, Joe Thomas and Blake Harrison – nearly died in a filming mishap during the ‘Field Trip’ episode.
The infamous scenes from the second series of the hit E4 comedy saw the actor’s alter ego set off a flare, and it nearly took a horrible turn when James didn’t properly listen to instructions while on a boat with his co-fellow actors.
Speaking on the special, Blake said: “He genuinely could have died.
“He looked down the barrel of it before it goes off and we were told don’t ever do that because if it goes off, it has the force of a grenade.
“So when James does that and half a second later it comes out, that’s how close we were to recasting.”
The programme was the first time the four stars have appeared on the small screen together since the final episode ‘The Camping Trip’ in 2010.

Michelle Visage confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Visage is the latest star to be confirmed for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ star has become the ninth celebrity to sign up for the Latin and ballroom show, and she is looking forward to representing “women of a certain age” on the BBC One series.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, she said: “I’m very excited, I’m over the moon. This is one show I’ve loved for years.
“I’m a woman that’s 50 years old and I want to be out there representing women of a certain age who people say, ‘They’re old, they can’t do it anymore.’ Well, actually, yeah we can.”
And Michelle is hoping she will be partnered up with Giovanni Pernice on the programme.
She added: “I’m Italian so I would love Giovanni. I love the Italian sense of humour, the accent is amazing and they have a good time.
“They’ve got to have some guns to lift all of this.
“I also love Aljaž [Škorjanec] and Gorka [Marquez]. One of those three I’d be over the moon.”
But Michelle – who has been married to David Case for 22 years – laughed off any possibility of the so-called “‘Strictly’ curse” striking, insisting it is “silly”.
She said: “It makes me laugh that people think that that’s a thing. It’s so silly. My husband of 22 years is the love of my life.
“It [the curse] is laughable, that’s what it is.”
As well as Michelle, Viscountess Emma Weymouth, Karim Zeroual, Mike Bushell, Catherine Tyldesley, Saffron Barker, David James, Chris Ramsey and Emma Barton will also compete on the programme later this year.

Alex Ferns’ home terrorised by baboons

OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘EastEnders’ star Alex Ferns’ home is often set upon by an angry troop of baboons.
The 50-year-old actor – who played evil Trevor Morgan from 2000 to 2002 – now lives in Cape Town with his family, but his South African abode has been terrorised by the cheeky monkeys.
He said: “Baboons come down and wreak havoc. There’s one troop of 45 that live just above us in the mountain.”
The baboons once tore open a 5kg back of sugar, leaving his house in a mess.
He is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “They even come into my house and steal sugar.
“A big 5kg bag was literally opened and scattered about the house.”
Alex’s ‘EastEnders’ character Trevor was once named as “Britain’s most-hated soap villain” after he sexually assaulted his wife ‘Little’ Mo Slater (Kacey Ainsworth) and would frequently beat her.
Earlier this year, Kacey admitted the hard-hitting plot had a “physical impact” on her.
She said: “When I was on ‘EastEnders’, they’re long days, they’re 12 hour days and they’re six days a week. So, I was being Mo longer than I was being myself, and I do think they do have a physical impact. I mean, I would be going home in the car, I would still be sobbing and still would be very upset, to kind of have opened up whatever door there was in there and used all of that and I would still be crying.
“And then I’d begin the next morning, I’d be up at five to be in the next morning and they’d have to turn me upside down on the makeup chair and put cold spoons on my eyes to try and get my eyes to go back to normal so that I could shoot a scene in the café where I gave Dot a bacon sandwich or whatever.
“So it was relentless and it was hard, but you were always aware that you were playing someone else.”
Mo eventually fought back and Trevor was arrested, and he later died in a house explosion in November 2002, so Alex left the role. Kacey departed Walford in May 2006.

Will Bayley confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Bayley is the 10th celebrity contestant confirmed for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The table tennis Paralympic champion will swap his bat for his ballroom dancing shoes in the BBC One series later this year, and he is hoping to “inspire people with a disability” during his time on the programme.
He said: “I’m so proud to be on the show, it’s my family’s favourite show.
“I have no dance experience at all, but I hope I can do well. I want to inspire people with a disability – that would mean a lot to me.
“I want to prove to people I can do this.”
Will has suffered from arthrogryposis, a rare condition which affects all four of his limbs, since birth.
The star has also been training hard to defend his Paralympic title at next year’s Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and he scooped a gold at the Japan Open earlier this year.
He won silver and gold medals at London 2012 and Rio 2016.
News of his ‘Strictly’ role was revealed today (05.08.19) on talkRADIO.
It came just minutes after ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ star Michelle Visage was confirmed as the ninth celebrity for the show on ‘Lorraine’ earlier this morning.
Will and Michelle will be joined on the programme by fellow celebrity contestants Viscountess Emma Weymouth, Karim Zeroual, Mike Bushell, Catherine Tyldesley, Saffron Barker, David James, Chris Ramsey and Emma Barton.
