OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Styles has “respectfully declined” the role of Prince Eric in ‘The Little Mermaid’.
The ‘Sign of the Times’ singer – who made his movie debut in 2017’s ‘Dunkirk’ – had been in talks to star opposite Halle Bailey in the live-action remake of the Disney classic but it has now been revealed he has decided against appearing in the film.
Sources told The Wrap that Harry was a “fan” of the project but “respectfully declined” the male lead, though it is unclear why.
News of the 25-year-old star’s rejection of the role broke shortly after cinema chains AMC Theatres and Regent Cinemas both tweeted that he’d officially signed up for the role.
Both companies have since deleted their posts, but AMC had written: “And we have a prince! Harry Styles is confirmed to play Prince Eric in @Disney’s live-action remake of #TheLittleMermaid.”
Regent Cinemas posted: “BREAKING Harry Styles will play Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid.”
Most recently, Harry was one of the contenders for the role of Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming biopic on the King of Rock n’ Roll, and it was previously claimed the hunk was waiting to see if he landed the job before committing to ‘The Little Mermaid’.
Austin Butler came out on top for the Elvis role, so it seems the former One Direction star is now waiting for the right project to come along.
Alongside 19-year-old Halle as the titular mermaid Ariel, Awkwafina and Jacob Tremblay are also set to star in director Rob Marshall’s ‘The Little Mermaid’.
The ‘Ocean’s 8’ star is set to portray Scuttle the seagull, while 12-year-old Jacob will lend his voice to the role of faithful fish friend Flounder.
Melissa McCarthy is in talks to play Ursula, the sea witch, and Terry Crews recently put his own name forward to play King Triton, Ariel’s father.

OHMYGOSSIP — Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet are a “bonfire of chemistry”.
The ‘Lady Bird’ co-stars have teamed up again to play Jo March and Theodore ‘Laurie’ Laurence in Greta Gerwig’s big screen adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s ‘Little Women’ and the director believes they are one of the “great cinematic pairings”.
Speaking to PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly about Saoirse, 25, and Timothée, 23, Greta said: “There is some true pairing between them that feels like what’s in the tradition of great cinematic pairings. They have an energy between them that is like they become a bonfire when they’re together. They’re both so alive and they’re both so talented and so smart and so young. When you put them together it’s like combustion.
“[Watching them] breaks my heart, every time. They are both wonderful dancers. I think of them as my children, I just adore them. They are spectacular actors. I don’t know how they do it, I mean it’s magic. I direct them, but it’s all there.”
Greta also praised Emma Watson, who stars as Jo’s sister Meg March in the new movie.
She said: “To me she embodies everything that I was interested in, in terms of who the March women were. She is lovely, she is way out there trying to do everything she can [with her activism]. And I think, in terms of what she did with the character of Meg, she has so much open-heartedness and so much love combined with that much intelligence, it’s heartbreaking and potent. Because she’s absolutely herself with understanding the struggle of who that character is.”
The movie also stars Eliza Scanlen and Florence Pugh as Beth and Amy March, with Laura Dern as the March matriarch Marmee and Meryl Streep as Aunt March.

OHMYGOSSIP — Rory Douglas-Speed misses Parry Glasspool being around on ‘Hollyoaks’.
The 27-year-old actor – who plays Joel Dexter on the Channel 4 soap – is finding it strange without his pal on set after Harry Thompson was killed off, and he heaped praise on his former co-star.
Taking part in a fan Q&A on the official ‘Hollyoaks’ Instagram Story, he said: “Yeah man, of course I’m sad that Parry’s not with us anymore.
“He’s such a good guy, he’s so funny, I miss seeing him in the green room. But he’s going to go onto do great and big things, I know that.”
While Rory admitted there is an abundance of quality acting across the cast, he enjoys working with Gregory Finnegan – who plays James Nightingale – in particular because of his quick wit during filming.
He added: “Obviously the cast has got great people in it. However, I loved doing scenes with Greg Finnegan. He’s so funny! He’s good fun, man!”
Rory also got asked by a fan about the possibility of Joel being Breda McQueen’s (Moya Brady) next victim after recently dropping a huge hint his alter-ego could be set to meet his maker.
He recently teased: “This summer Breda finds out about Joel and Goldie [McQueen, Chelsee Healey] and she’s not best pleased. Will Joel be Breda’s next victim?”
However, he is keeping coy as the storyline unfolds on air, and he refused to give anything way.

OHMYGOSSIP — Awkwafina will star in ‘The Last Adventure of Constance Verity’.
The 30-year-old actress has signed up for the lead part in the fantasy-adventure movie, based on the novel series of the same name by A. Lee Martinez.
The novels tell the story of Constance Verity, who has been battling the supernatural since she was a child and wants a break from it. While all Constance wants is the chance to live a normal life, her destiny is to save the world and she struggles to escape it.
John Raffo has written the script, while Jon Shestack is producing.
Saga Press published ‘The Last Adventure of Constance Verity’ in 2016 and followed up with a sequel in 2018. Martinez is currently writing the third book in the series.
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that Awkwafina almost missed out on her leading role in ‘The Farewell’.
Lulu Wang directed the comedy-drama, which is based on her own life and follows a family who – upon learning their grandmother has only a short while left to live – decide not to tell her and schedule a family gathering before she dies.
The role was given to Awkwafina, but filmmaker Wang revealed that when the producer approached her suggesting the rapper and actress should play a “version of her” in the film, she wasn’t convinced the star would be a good fit.
She explained: “[When] my producer brought her name up I was like, ‘Awkwafina, the rapper from Queens? This is who you think should play, I guess, a version of me in a drama? Are we making the same film here?’ ”
However, Wang went on to explain that the audition tape finally convinced her that the ‘Ocean’s 8’ star could give a moving performance.
She added: “There was a quality of both light and dark, where she’s able to make a joke but you kind of feel like, in a way, she’s doing it to mask something deeper.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack Tweed didn’t want the new Jade Goody documentary to end because he loved seeing her again.
The late reality star’s widower has opened up about watching the first of Channel 4’s three-part series ‘Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain’, and he admitted hearing her voice “brought her back” to him.
Appearing on ITV’s ‘Good Morning Britain’, he said: “I didn’t want it to end because it sort of brought her back to me, and then it’s finished and I realised she’s gone again…
“It makes you feel closer to her as soon as you hear her, no one sounds like Jade.
“As soon as Jade talks you can tell it’s Jade from a mile away.”
The documentary was eye-opening for Jack, as he didn’t watch Jade – who tragically died aged 27 in 2009 after a battle with cervical cancer – when she appeared on ‘Big Brother’ nine years before her death, and so didn’t realise exactly what she had been through.
He explained: “I didn’t watch the first ‘Big Brother’ so I didn’t know how much – I knew she got abused but I didn’t realise to the extreme of what the newspapers were calling her and how bad it really was. So that was a shock.”
Jack, 31, previously admitted he has no plans to find love again as he doesn’t think he will ever “be as happy” with someone else as he was with her.
He said earlier this year: “She was 100 million per cent the love of my life. Nobody has ever come close to Jade and I don’t see how they ever will. That pain of losing the person you love never goes away … I’m never going to be as happy as I was with her so I don’t feel it will be fair if I get with someone else.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Lewis Bloor and Georgia Harrison have both signed up for ‘Ex On The Beach’.
The former flames – who dated away from the world of reality TV but rekindled their romance during her brief stint on ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ five years ago – are set to be reunited on the new series of the MTV dating show, with bosses hoping for “some explosive TV”.
A source told The Sun Online: “Lewis and Georgia haven’t seen each other since their fallout on ‘TOWIE’ so their reunion will be explosive.
“They are both known for speaking their minds and bosses can’t wait for them to create some explosive TV.
“Georgia still has some questions she wants answered and she’s unlikely to let Lewis get out of talking. There will definitely be a confrontation or two.”
When Georgia appeared on ‘TOWIE’ back in 2014, Lewis made a move while she was dating Tom Pearce and she admitted she wouldn’t “rule him out” because of their history together.
He said at the time: “I’ve known the girl for the past six or seven years. We’ve never officially been boyfriend or girlfriend, but I’ve always said if there’s one girl that I really wanted to give time to, it would be her.”
The pair fell out and Georgia – who later appeared on ‘Love Island’ – left the show after one series.
‘Ex On The Beach’ will be back on TV later this year after the planned 10th series was cancelled following the tragic death of Mike Thalassitis.
A spokesperson said at the time: “We were very sad to hear the tragic news about Mike Thalassitis and our thoughts are with his family and friends.
“Last year, Mike took part in filming for the next series of ‘Ex on the Beach’, which was due to air on MTV later in the year.
“In light of the news of Mike’s death, we have decided not to broadcast the planned 10th season of the show.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Montana Brown wrote a poem in tribute to Mike Thalassitis for a new mental health book.
The former ‘Love Island’ star has honoured her late friend – who tragically took his own life earlier this year aged 26 – in Scarlett Curtis’ new book ‘It’s Not OK to Feel Blue (and Other Lies)’, and she hit out at her critics as she revealed the news.
She wrote on Instagram: “I feel so honoured to have been asked to write (yes I can write despite people thinking if you went on Love Island you don’t have a brain) about my experience of mental health and specifically about Mike.
“I chose to write a poem as I found that the easiest way to write about how I feel and I can’t wait to share it with you all. The royalties are going to @giveusashoutinsta which is an amazing charity which are the first 24/7 helpline.”
The book will be released on October 3, and Montana revealed she is glad to have made a contribution despite facing a backlash from online trolls for speaking out about Mike.
She added: “I feel completely honoured to not only contribute to such an incredible book, but also to talk about Mike as well.
“People made me feel really bad about talking about him publicly, accusing me of using his death for my own good, and it really made me sad.
“But I don’t care about that anymore, the point is people are hurting silently, and Mike was hurting silently for a while and nobody saw the signs because he didn’t reach out.
“So let’s all speak up about mental health, and hopefully all these inspirational contributors can show you it’s OK to speak about your experiences too.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Rylan Clark-Neal has promised viewers there will be a tribute to the late Dale Winton on the rebooted ‘Supermarket Sweep’.
The TV presenter is to host a revamped version of the classic 90s show, which was originally presented by Dale – who died aged 62 in April last year – from 1993 to 2001.
Speaking to RadioTimes.com, Rylan said: “We’re definitely going to have a nod to Dale. That was one of the big things when I agreed to do the job was that I wanted to have a nod to Dale, somewhere in the supermarket which we’ve managed.
“That’s all I’m going to say about it, but it was the one thing I really wanted.”
The 30-year-old presenter admitted the plan was to air ‘Supermarket Sweep’ earlier, but it was held off due to Dale’s death.
Rylan said: “Dale’s passing was really, really sad, and we all just took that decision to say, ‘Now is not the right time to do this,’ because it was Dale’s show.
“One thing I’m gutted about is that I never got to speak with Dale beforehand, because any show that I do that someone’s done I speak with them beforehand to make sure they’re happy that I’m doing it.”
The reboot will see the show modernised with new games and other additions, such as a self-checkout.
Rylan said: “There may be a self-checkout, but don’t worry, we’ll still have checkout assistants. You can’t have ‘Supermarket Sweep’ without checkout assistants.”
The show is expected to return to screens in September on ITV2.

OHMYGOSSIP — Cate Blanchett is “a genius”, according to Richard Linklater.
The 59-year-old director cast Cate in the lead role in his new movie ‘Where’d You Go, Bernadette’, based on Maria Semple’s novel of the same name, which tells the story of Bernadette Fox, an architect-turned-recluse who disappears right before a family vacation, and Richard chose Cate because he is a huge fan.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: “I always say to portray a genius, you need a genius. If you’re going to make a movie about Beethoven, the actor you get to play him better be a genius. Most people aren’t and it never works. Bernadette, a MacArthur genius – I think people believe Cate.
And he was equally full of praise for newcomer Emma Nelson, who plays Bernadette’s 15-year-old daughter, Bee.
He said: “She’s awesome. Some people were like, ‘Oh, she hasn’t done a movie.’ I said, ‘No, she’s gonna be fine’. She’s so smart, so confident. I knew she would be great.”
Meanwhile, Cate said she was keen to portray her character’s “sense of isolation and desperation”.
She explained: “[She has] the need to please, but she’s also so full of disgust for the rest of the world because she’s so full of disgust for herself. Then there’s all these strange and heightened relationships that she has with the mothers at the school, with the virtual assistant, all of those quite remote and strange relationships, I thought were very important to carry through.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Simon Bird doesn’t find acting “creatively satisfying”.
The ‘Inbetweeners’ actor has directed the coming-of-age comedy-drama ‘Days of the Bagnold Summer’, starring Earl Cave as angry teen Danny and Monica Dolan as his lonely, single mother Sue, and Simon loved the control he had as a director on set.
He told Variety: “In my parallel careers I’ve been involved in lots of other different aspects of filmmaking and while acting is really fun it is not necessarily the most creatively satisfying thing you can do. And I found myself feeling quite jealous on set of the writers and the directors – the people who have more of a say over how the film turns out… and basically I’m a bit of a control freak – I like the idea of seeing an idea through from the very start to the very end. And it was every bit as rewarding as I had hoped. You get a taste for it. It is definitely something I want to do more of.”
Simon also revealed he was hugely impressed when Earl – who is the son of singer Nick Cave – auditioned as he felt that the young actor really understood the character of Danny.
He said: “We saw a lot of kids come in and do the grumpy adolescent that we have all seen in TV shows and films before. The book is more complex, and the Danny in the book is more well-rounded than that, and his moodiness is clearly just a phase he is going through – a protective shell he’s put up around himself. It was important to me to find an actor who, as well as being able to do that side of things, was able to portray a degree of vulnerability, and someone who could nail the jokes as well. And fortunately we got Earl who was great at all those different facets of Daniel’s character.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sandra Marvin’s found “strength” in Buddhism after suffering with anxiety.
The soap star – who recently confirmed she is quitting ‘Emmerdale’ after two years as Jessie Grant – was introduced to the religion by co-star Gaynor Faye (Megan Macey), and admitted it was a good fit for her lifestyle and beliefs.
Speaking to OK! magazine, she said: “I’ve meditated on and off since I was 15. It’s always something I looked to when I was struggling with anxiety or nerves.
“Gaynor introduced me to Buddhism in the last year and it’s a really good fit for my lifestyle and my beliefs. It’s really been a great strength to me.”
Sandra – who also enjoys a “very large gin and tonic” after a tough scene – suffered anxiety for over 10 years, but now uses exercise and her faith to help “calm her”.
She added: “Exercise really helps me, especially yoga, and my Buddhism. It helps me focus my mind; it answers questions and calms me.”
The star has decided to leave ‘Emmerdale’ to focus on a fresh “challenge”, but admitted it’s a big risk to call it a day in the Dales.
She said: “It’s been an amazing time on ‘Emmerdale’ but I’m also excited to see what the future could hold. It was a really hard one as I love soaps and I always dreamed of being in one. I’ve had the most fantastic time.”
Sandra – who first appeared in the ITV soap in 2017 – has now turned her attention to the stage and joined the cast of ‘The Thunder Girls’ alongside Coleen Nolan and Coronation Street’s Beverley Callard.

OHMYGOSSIP — Alexandra Mardell reflected on her own experiences to portray Emma Brooker’s heartbreak.
The ‘Coronation Street’ actress has a personal connection to her character’s storyline after Emma received the devastating news her father had died, and the soap star has remembered her own dad Michael three years after his passing.
Taking to Instagram, she wrote: “This ones for you Dad. So honoured I was given the chance to take on the story of Emma’s loss.
“This will always be one of the most meaningful stories to play for me. Something so important that I could truly relate to. @coronationstreet. (sic)”
Her co-stars showed their support on social media, with Samia Longchambon (Maria Connor) among those commenting on the emotional post.
She wrote: “You have done yourself so proud, Ali… and your dad. (sic)”
Katie McGlynn (Sinead Tinker) shared heart emojis, and Jennie McAlpine (Fiz Stape) praised her “beautiful” performance.
Jane Danson (Leanne Battersby) added: “Can totally relate, darling, sending you a big hug.”
Michael died in 2016 after a battle with cardiomyopathy – a disease of the heart muscle – and earlier this year Alexandra paid tribute to her late father when she started raising money for this year’s Manchester Great Run.
The actress made her first appearance on the cobbles in April last year, and admits she was “star-struck” when she first stepped foot on set.
She said: “It was so surreal so I was a bit star-struck by everyone, but I tried to play it cool. But everyone was so welcoming, so as soon as I got there I felt settled and comfortable with everyone. It was lovely.
“It was quite unusual how much you get recognised you after my first episode. It doesn’t feel like you’re working, it just feels like I’m having such a good time every day with my friends and just enjoying it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘Gladiators’ star Cobra is back in the gym just weeks after suffering from pneumonia and having a hip-replacement surgery.
The 55 year old was rushed to the hospital in April after needing two new hips, suffering pneumonia in both lungs, pleurisy and a ruptured bicep.
Cobra, whose real name is Michael Willson, told Mirror Online: “I’ve got a new hip. I’ve recovered really quick. I got over … well I’m still getting over pleurisy and pneumonia.
“I’m waiting on a bicep repair, I might have a new shoulder next year and in three months I’m going to get my other hip done.”
Cobra spent over a month in hospital and is now back to keeping fit.
He said: “I’m now doing lots of physiotherapy. I’m been going to the gym. Keeping the muscles strong.
“It’s really helped with my recovery. I’m going in every other day. I’ve got a great personal trainer who helps old blokes who are falling apart.
“I was walking within a few hours of waking up. I’ve kept the muscles as strong as possible.”
Back in April, Cobra revealed the extent of his health problems.
He said: “I’m only half a Gladiator now. It’s been touch and go. I don’t feel like I’m kicking the bucket at the minute, but it will only take another cold or cough and I’m in trouble.”
Other former ‘Gladiators’ stars proved their tight-knit friendship by flooding Cobra with support during his hospital stint.
James ‘Hunter’ Crossley was among those who reportedly “broke down” when they found out Cobra was fighting for his life.
Cobra said: “Wolf text me the other day. They all phoned and sent loads of abusive texts, big butch men can’t be too sentimental. A few broke down when they heard I really wasn’t well – Hunter, Ace, Puma, Rhino.
“I was really ill in that hospital. I wasn’t sure if I was going to get out. Now every day I see as a bonus.”

The ‘Celebs Go Dating’ star was spotted locking lips with the reality TV beauty at the dating show’s wrap party last week, and she opened up on the feelings of instant attraction while trying to stay coy about their blossoming romance.
She told ITV’s ‘Good Morning Britain’: “I definitely believe in that, yeah. I believe in first sight. I just think when you meet someone, you know, as soon as you meet them you know you’re gonna like them.”
Asked if she felt that with Megan, Demi laughed and said: “Maybe.”
Demi tried to stay relatively tight-lipped about her relationship with Megan, insisting “a private life is a happy life” while admitting she “adores” the former ‘Love Island’ star.
Asked if they’re officially an item, she teased: “I mean, a private life is a happy life, guys, I must say. But Megan, if you’re watching this Meg, I do adore you, and I think the world of you.”
The pair smooched in front of a crowd at the after-party for ‘Celebs Go Dating’ after picking each other rather than their dates.

OHMYGOSSIP — Vicki Michelle has told fans to “watch this space” about a possible ‘Allo, Allo’ comeback.
The 68-year-old actress claims there has “been a film suggested”, and admitted she still has a script which was “loosely based on lots of episodes”.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, she said: “It would be interesting to do a TV show. There’s quite a few of us still alive and we’ve all got to a certain age but we do all look good. You could get away with it.
“There’s been a film suggested – I’ve still got the script someone wrote which was loosely based on lots of episodes.
“And someone approached me at a party and said he’d really like to work on a musical.”
Vicki, who played waitress Yvette Carte-Blanche, is meeting up with the cast next month for the unveiling of a blue plaque at Lynford Hall, Norfolk, where some scenes were shot.
The actress said: “I bet, when I talk to the others, they will say they have been approached about doing it.”
However, Vicki believes comedy is too “PC” nowadays and she wants to bring the genre back to its roots.
She said: “I think we need to laugh more. When you get in from work, it’s news, cooking shows, animal shows – where’s the comedy?
“You have to be so PC with things these days. But I think it would be great to get that laugh-out-loud comedy back.”
The show is set in occupied France during the Second World War and followed the life of cafe owner Rene Artois (Gorden Kaye), and his long-suffering wife Edith (Carmen Silvera), as they try to keep on the right side of the French Resistance and the German military.

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Collins says three of her family members suffered heart attacks last week.
The ‘Diva Forever’ star suggested her openness about “everyday struggles” is what makes her so appealing and relatable, and she revealed it can sometimes be difficult putting on a brave face at work as she discussed her relationship with James ‘Arg’ Argent.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘This Morning’, she said: “With Arg, obviously when we’re on reality TV shows it’s not always plain sailing. People have their moments, Arg has his moments, I’ve had many a moment. But literally, we make great TV.
“What I’m very passionate about is not living – I think why I am such a success with regards to my shows and stuff, I don’t give you an impression that my world’s all rose tinted glasses, candy floss, sequins and glitter, because let me tell you, it’s not.
“I have every day struggles like everyone else, we have relationship problems, there’s stuff that happens.
“Last week, three people in our family had heart attacks, but we still have to turn up for work, and we still have to put a smile on when we come through the door. We’re not always in the best of moods.”
Gemma also discussed her ‘GC’ alter-ego and compared her to Paul O’Grady’s drag persona Lily Savage.
She explained: “GC is a brand now, and it’s how I make my money, to be honest … 100 per cent [there’s a distinction], definitely.
“Gemma’s here today, but GC, I’ve become one of the biggest reality stars in Britain.
