Michael Palin admits he talks to his late wife

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Palin talks to his late wife.
The ‘Monty Python’ star, 80, was left devastated when his teacher and bereavement counsellor partner of 57 years Helen was killed aged 80 by kidney failure in 2023, and has now said he chats to her especially when he feels exhausted.
He told The Guardian when asked if he still talks to her: “Well, yeah, I do occasionally.
“I just do it coming into an empty room after you’ve had a long session or something, doing a long interview for The Guardian, whatever, something that really kind of wears you out!
“You get in and you’re going through the door, and I always speak and say: ‘Whoa, wow, that was something!’
“It’s just as a little moment, which helps me when I get into the house, rather than just going in and it’s all key in the lock and silence.”
Michael’s wife encouraged him to do the travelogue shows for which he has been famed for the last 35 years.
His latest travel series sees him journeying to Nigeria, where he meets young people hoping to make their fortune.
They include a young woman who is battling to rebuild her life after being kidnapped by Boko Haram and an environmentalist fighting government corruption.
It marks the first major project he has taken on since Helen died, and Michael admitted he feared his grief would stop him from being up to the job.
He added: “I was quite concerned about whether I could physically and mentally deal with it just a few months after Helen had died.
“But I enjoyed the experience tremendously. I felt I can do this, I can get out there. It’s not someone giving me a job because my wife’s just died. Actually, it regenerated me in a way.”

Conan O’Brien: ‘It feels weird to be replaced as a talk show host!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Conan O’Brien says it feels “weird” to be replaced as a talk show host.
The 60-year-old, who spent 28 years hosting chat shows including ‘Conan’, made the admission as she sat down with ‘The Tonight Show’ presenter Jimmy Fallon, 49, to reminisce about Conan’s time hosting NBC’s ‘Late Night’.
He said: “It’s weird to come back. I haven’t been in this building for such a long time, and I haven’t been on this floor in forever.”
Conan went on: “I was here for 16 years doing the ‘Late Night’ show before we went out to LA, and right across the hall… all these memories came flooding back to me.
“The first thing that will hit you – and it will hit you, too, because one day you’ll have this show as long as you want it, but when you’re 98, you’ll move on and someone else will be in this studio. When someone else is in your studio, it feels weird.”
Conan added Kelly Clarkson, 41, who is the host of her eponymous daytime talk show on NBC, is in his old studio.
He said: “I love Kelly Clarkson. Who doesn’t love Kelly Clarkson? But still I felt like, ‘It’s not right! Blasphemy! They should’ve burned it to the ground!’”
Conan’s guest appearance marked the comedian’s first in-person return to Jimmy’s ‘The Tonight Show’ since his exit from NBC in 2010, in which he was replaced by Jay Leno, 73, as the show’s host following a seven-month tenure. Before his brief stint on ‘The Tonight Show’, Conan hosted ‘Late Night’ from 1993 to 2009.
He is now promoting his forthcoming travelogue series ‘Conan O’Brien Must Go’, which debuts on Max on April 18 – and marks the presenter’s first TV project since his TBS show ‘Conan’ ended in 2021 after 11 seasons.

‘Peter Kay’s Car Share’ star Sian Gibson reveals why show return is unlikely

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Peter Kay’s Car Share’ star Sian Gibson has revealed she doesn’t think the show will make a comeback.
The 47-year-old starred as supermarket worker Kayleigh Kitson for the comedy series’ three-year run on BBC One from 2018, and despite it being a ratings hit, she has now said she doubts it will return as 50-year-old Peter, who played store manager John Redmond, is back on a stand-up tour.
She told OK! magazine when asked if ‘Car Share’ could return: “I don’t think so. I mean, Peter’s doing a record-breaking UK tour [so] is very busy for the next couple of years. He’s doing his amazing stand-up.”
Last year, an industry insider revealed that a ‘Car Share’ comeback would likely never see the light of day as documents showed Peter was winding down the company behind the show.
A source told The Sun newspaper about the filing: “This seems to be the final nail in the coffin of ‘Car Share’ – and is sure to leave fans devastated.
“Of course there is always the chance Peter intends to manage finances for the show through another of his companies, but that seems unlikely when he had such a dedicated set-up in the first place.”
Peter previously gave fans hope a ‘Car Share’ return was not out of the question after he admitted he was open to the idea of making a one-off Christmas special.
When quizzed on whether he would consider making a festive episode of ‘Car Share’, the comedian said he “might do”.
He added: “Of all the things I’ve ever done, that’s my favourite of all. I love being with Sian and we had a good laugh.”
Although a ‘Car Share’ revival may now be off the table, Peter revealed his other sitcom ‘Max and Paddy’s Road to Nowhere’ – in which he starred alongside Paddy McGuinness in 2004 – could make a comeback, as the pair had written two festive one-offs.
During a Q and A for one of his gigs at the Manchester’s O2 Apollo, he told the crowd: “I loved making ‘Max And Paddy’, it was one of the best times we ever had filming and we had such a good laugh.
“We actually wrote two Christmas specials and then we never made them so you never know.”

Filmmaker Mark Christopher Lee reveals ‘angelic’ UFO encounter as a child in The Paranormal UFO Connection

OHMYGOSSIP — Award-winning filmmaker Mark Christopher Lee reveals the “angelic experience” he had with a UFO in ‘The Paranormal UFO Connection’.
The film explores the paranormal nature of encounters with spacecraft and Lee reflects on the “Alien” experience he had as a child which he is certain was angelic in nature.
He said: “When I was young I had a weird experience of a blue shining light and face appearing on my bedroom wall, it was like a portal had opened from another dimension or world. It was breaking the ‘Angel’ for want of a better word and gave me a message that everything was going to be ok.
“Well, from the next day onwards my world turned upside down and my abusive childhood started but this divine or alien message gave me the courage to get through.
“At the time I was sure it was an Angel but now after investigating UFOs and Alien Experiences that people have had I think it may have been an alien encounter, or that Angels and Aliens are the same type of being or energy.”
The film delves into the mysteries of Quantum Physics and how quantum engagement could possibly hold the key to explaining both paranormal and UFO experiences. It features appearances by Evelyn Hollow from the TV series ‘Uncanny’ and Yvette Fielding from ‘Most Haunted’.
Elsewhere, renowned Demonologist Ian Broadmore also looks at the links between aliens and demons and he argues – along with the UK military’s former UFO chief Nick Pope – that many figures in both the US and UK governments suspect that the spacecrafts are demonic.
Pope said: “Luis Elizondo, the whistleblower who used to work for the US government on UFOs, was told by a prominent Pentagon official to leave UFOs and alone and to go away and read his bible. This is the attitude that is still prevalent and is why we are not getting full UFO disclosure.”
‘The Paranormal UFO Collection’ is out now on Tubi and Amazon Prime.

New details of Jamie Lomas’ Hollyoaks departure revealed

OHMYGOSSIP — New details of Warren Fox’s departure from ‘Hollyoaks’ have been revealed.
It was recently revealed that 48-year-old actor Jamie Lomas has decided to walk away from the show at the end of his current contract and returning Freddie Roscoe actor Charlie Clapham teased his character could be responsible for Warren’s departure.
He told The Mirror: “I’d be disappointed if I wasn’t involved. I wanna take him down, why not. I think Freddie took out Fraser Black way, way back in the day. He’s got previous, I can’t see any reason why it couldn’t be him.
“I think Freddie would revel in being a bit of a Kingpin. I think he would make a great villain because he’s got so many flaws. Freddie’s always liable to fall in love, to do the wrong thing and then try to do the right thing.
“There’s always a complexity with him that I don’t think you get with a lot of characters. There’s always something else, there’s always another thing nobody knows about and that’s really fun as an actor. It’s great, you can have him do anything and just be like, ‘well yeah, it’s Freddie Roscoe’.”
In February, Channel 4 announced plans to cut ‘Hollyoaks’ from five episodes a week to just three, and Jamie has decided that it is the ideal time for him to walk away from the programme.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Jamie has been at the centre of some of the soap’s biggest storylines and has been back in ‘Hollyoaks’ now for nearly eight years, which is a long time.
“It’s been a long stint which he has loved but with all the changes going on he felt the time was right to move on.”
The insider added: “He told bosses last week and they are already working on his exit storyline.
“The door will be left open and it is hoped he’ll be back again as Warren Fox on day.”
Meanwhile, Ian Katz, the chief content officer at Channel 4, recently claimed that the show’s revamp will ensure that ‘Hollyoaks’ remains “compulsive viewing for a new generation of fans as viewing habits change”.
He said: “The show has always been at the forefront of innovation in all of its forms, including increasing and decreasing episode numbers in response to viewing habits. These changes are a decisive step forward, designed to reflect how audiences are watching.
“A tighter schedule promises a new era of more scale and impact. We are of course mindful of the impacts on the production team and will work closely with (production company) Lime Pictures to minimise these where possible.”

Jordan Banjo forced to move home after vile trolling

OHMYGOSSIP — Jordan Banjo was forced to move home after vile trolling.
The 31-year-old Diversity star reflected on the backlash to the dance troupe’s Black Lives Matter inspired performance on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ in 2020.
He told OK magazine: “When you’re in the moment, negative voices always feel the loudest. We only did a dance on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ but people were acting like we did something awful. At the time it felt like the worst thing in the world, but ultimately you realise nobody really cares that much. Everyone is cracking on with their lives and you have to do the same.
“We won a BAFTA for the performance, we sparked really positive conversations among friends and family, and more importantly, I’ve seen stuff being done in schools, conversations happening in communities. Even talking about it now shows it had a lasting impact.
“For some people it was just a misunderstanding but others love to jump on a bandwagon and be outraged. I saw comments saying, ‘I haven’t watched the performance but this is disgusting.’ Everybody is entitled to their opinion but I think there’s some people who thrive on negativity.”
And, dad-of-three Jordan even had to move house because people tried to break in.
He said: “I had people try to break into my house or vandalise my car. But the experience has given me a thicker skin. Now, I just take steps to minimise negativity. I don’t need to sit here and read negativity – it doesn’t leave me feeling good. Diversity has never tried to be controversial. We like to entertain people, leave people feeling happy. If you’re fortunate to have a big platform, I think it’s important to always try and use that for positivity.”

Dev Patel’s ‘humbling and nourishing’ directional debut

OHMYGOSSIP — Dev Patel says his directional debut ‘Monkey Man’ was both “humbling and nourishing”.
The ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ actor, 33, whose breakout role came in Channel 4’s teen drama ‘Skins’, co-wrote, directed and stars in his new film, and he has admitted it was quite the “undertaking” and is thankful to every single person who helped make it happen.
Speaking to Hey U Guys, he said :”It was a tremendous kind of undertaking. It was very humbling and nourishing at the same time.
“I mean, this is my first rodeo, but when you watch something back that you’ve directed the sheer amount of gratitude that fills your heart to all of the souls that took part in that vision, everyone that held a pole to move the chair to painted a face to like I look at that and I get overwhelmed by that feeling.”
Dev was moved to tears by the rapturous reaction the flick received at its world premiere.
A video shared by Variety on X showed Dev walking out on stage to a standing ovation – before he put his hand over his heart and put his hands to his face, turned away from the audience and appeared to wipe tears from his eyes.
He declared at the showing: “The action genre has been abused by the system. “You know, a quick buck. Mindless (rubbish.)
“I wanted to give it soul. Real trauma. Real pain. You guys deserve that. I wanted to infuse it with a little bit of culture.
“I really wanted to touch on the caste system in India. You have the poor at the bottom, slaving away in the kitchens.
“Then you go up to the land of the kings. Above them is God – a manmade God that’s polluting and corrupting religion.”
‘Monkey Man’ stars Oscar-nominated Dev as a man named Kid who “ekes out a meagre living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash.”
The movie then sees Kid seeking out revenge against a group of men who left him with childhood trauma in a rampage against India’s caste system.
Dev also admitted he was left exhausted after making the movie.
He told People on the red carpet of its premiere last month: “I mean, I’ve been hibernating for a while.
“I don’t really feel fit for public consumption right now. I’ve been in a dark room.
“The paint’s fairly dry on this thing, but it’s huge.”
The film made waves in January when it was revealed it was moving from a Netflix release to theatrical distribution with Universal.
It was widely reported at the time ‘Nope’ filmmaker and producer Jordan Peele, 45, had pushed to release ‘Monkey Man’ in cinemas after he first saw the movie and helped Universal acquire it for distribution.

‘It’s pure cinema’: James Cameron praises Dune: Part Two

OHMYGOSSIP — James Cameron has hailed ‘Dune: Part Two’ as “pure cinema”.
The ‘Titanic’ filmmaker was very impressed by Denis Villeneuve’s sequel – the highest-grossing film of 2024 so far – and he believes that the ‘Sicario’ director has been far more faithful to Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel with his movies than David Lynch was in his “disappointing” 1984 picture.
Speaking to the French publication Le Figaro, James said: “David Lynch’s adaptation was disappointing. It was missing the power of Herbert’s novel.
“Villeneuve’s films are much more convincing. The characters are sketched out, they are very identifiable. It’s pure cinema. I speak regularly to Denis, filmmaker to filmmaker. We record our conversations, like (Francois) Truffaut and (Alfred) Hitchcock.”
Cameron, 69, is the latest esteemed director to laud ‘Dune: Part Two’ after Steven Spielberg recently described the epic as one of the best sci-fi films he has ever seen.
The iconic moviemaker – who has helmed classics including ‘E.T. The Extra Terrestrial’ – told Villeneuve on DGA’s ‘Director’s Cut’ podcast: “It’s an honour for me to sit here and talk to you.
“This is truly a visual epic, and it’s also filled with deeply, deeply drawn characters.
“Yet the dialogue is very sparse when you look at it proportionately to the running time of the film. It’s such cinema. The shots are so painterly, yet there’s not an angle or single setup that’s pretentious … you have made one of the most brilliant science fiction films I have ever seen.”
Spielberg even went as far as describing his contemporary as one of the greatest directors in the history of Hollywood.
The ‘Jaws’ helmer explained: “Let me start by saying there are filmmakers who are the builders of worlds. It’s not a long list and we know who a lot of them are. Starting with [Georges] Melies and [Walt] Disney and [Stanley] Kubrick, George Lucas. Ray Harryhausen I include in that list.
“[Federico] Fellini built his own worlds. Tim Burton. Obviously Wes Anderson, Peter Jackson, James Cameron, Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott, Guillermo del Toro. The list goes on but it’s not that long of a list, and I deeply, fervently believe that you are one of its newest members.”

Woody Allen is ‘on the fence’ about retirement

OHMYGOSSIP — Woody Allen is “on the fence” about making another film.
The 88-year-old filmmaker has helmed his 50th feature in the form of the French erotic thriller ‘Coup de Chance’ but is unsure whether it will be his last project as he still has lots of ideas but finds trying to obtain financial support for his work tiresome.
Woody told Airmail: “I’m on the fence about it. I don’t want to have to go out to raise money. I find that a pain in the neck.
“But if someone shows up and calls in and says we want to back the film, then I would seriously consider it. I would probably not have the willpower to say no, because I have so many ideas.”
The veteran director – whose career has spanned over six decades and includes flicks such as ‘Annie Hall’ and ‘Hannah and Her Sisters’ – explained that the delay to the release of ‘Coup de Chance’ has left him disillusioned with the movie industry.
Woody said: “It doesn’t matter to me whether I get distributed here or not. Once I make it, I don’t follow it anymore. Distribution is no longer what it was.
“Now distribution is two weeks in a cinema… The whole business has changed, and not in an appealing way. All the romance of filmmaking is gone.”
Allen – who has insisted there is “no merit” to sexual abuse allegations made by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow – also had a defiant answer when asked about being “cancelled” by society.
He explained: “Someone asked me about cancel culture, and I said, ‘If you’re going to be cancelled, this is the culture that you want to be cancelled from.’
“Because who wants to be part of this culture?”

Radio 1 DJ Dean McCullough lined up for Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — BBC Radio 1 DJ Dean McCullough is wanted for the next series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 31-year-old broadcaster is viewed as the perfect signing by ‘Strictly’ bosses as they are keen to give chances to the corporation’s talent on the hit dancing competition.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Dean is definitely a rising star at the Beeb and ‘Strictly’ like to support their own talent on the series.
“He is a lively personality, which would likely win over viewers.
“Dean would jump at the chance.”
The Northern Irish presenter currently hosts the afternoon show on Radio 1 with Vicky Hawkesworth and has an intriguing backstory as he previously talked candidly about how his binge-drinking spiralled out of control during the coronavirus pandemic.
Dean said: “What was like a glass of wine of an evening after work turned into a bottle which turned into two bottles and then, some weekends, I was drinking like a bottle of vodka too.
“It wasn’t until I was going to work on a Monday and I was looking at the bins and thinking, ‘I didn’t drink all that?’ But I had, because there was no one else in the house.
“It was the pandemic, and I just got myself into a bad way and I was sort of thinking some really, really dark thoughts.”
Meanwhile, it has also been revealed that ‘Ted Lasso’ actress Hannah Waddingham – a good friend of judge Anton Du Beke and his wife Hannah – is giving serious consideration to an offer to take part in the programme later this year
A source told The Mirror: “Hannah would be an incredible signing for ‘Strictly’ this year, and so far things are looking very positive.
“She loves the show – she has heard so much about it from Anton and Hannah, as she is a close friend to both – and is keen to do it. It’s just a question of whether or not it’s possible to fit it into her schedule – obviously it’s a very big commitment, and she is incredibly in demand at the moment.”

Stephen Mulhern missed Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway episode due to illness

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephen Mulhern was forced to pull out of ‘Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway’ due to illness.
The 47-year-old star had been due to feature in a segment in the penultimate episode of the ITV favourite last night (06.04.24) but was replaced by DJ Jordan North after informing show bosses earlier in the day that he was too unwell to appear.
A source close to the ‘Deal or No Deal’ host told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Stephen was due to be on a small section of the show, but sadly he was feeling a bit too poorly to perform.
“When he realised he would be too under the weather to show up he called first thing on Saturday morning to let the team know.
“They were able to rejig the format and make it work without him.”
Stephen is expected to return for the last ever episode of the programme next week where he will crown the ultimate champion in the ‘Ant Vs Dec’ segment.
The show is set to conclude its 22-year run with a two-hour spectacular that will feature Girls Aloud as the Star Guest Announcers and celebrity guests including Pussycat Dolls star Ashley Roberts and pop group S Club.
Meanwhile, stars including Simon Cowell and Olly Murs will have the chance to get vengeance for Ant and Dec’s pranks in the feature ‘Get Out of Me Ear: The Revenge’.
The Geordie duo explained that they have decided to step away from the popular show as they “need a break” to spend more time with their families.
Ant – who is expecting his first child with his wife Anne-Marie Corbett – told Fault Magazine: “We do the show and then ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, but on a more personal level, part of the reason we’re pausing ‘Takeaway’ is we need a break ourselves, and we need to spend some time with our family. We’ve both got children that we need to spend time with for a little bit.”

Seann Walsh continues to be haunted by Strictly Come Dancing kissing controversy

OHMYGOSSIP — Seann Walsh is still haunted by his ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ kissing scandal.
The 38-year-old comedian was at the centre of controversy after he was pictured kissing his married dance partner Katya Jones when he appeared on the BBC show in 2018 and admits that he has never danced since and is even disturbed by ‘Strictly No Parking’ zones.
Seann – who was in a relationship with actress Rebecca Humphries at the time – told fellow comic Russell Howard on the ‘Wonderbox’ podcast: “I do not dance. What it is more actually is when you turn up to any car park or something, and it says, ‘Strictly No Parking’. I still just go, ‘Arghh’, every time I see it.
“I can hear the word — like a dog hearing something — I can just hear the word strictly and I still go, ‘Arghh!'”
Seann admits that he returned to performing comedy shows too soon after the scandal and said that he “looked unwell, thin and gaunt” during his performances, where he was regularly heckled by audience members.
He said: “I went back too soon — that’s for sure. You’ve got to kind of let audiences, or the public, almost let them get over it. But I wanted to kind of fight it.
“I didn’t want this thing that was happening to my life to take away the only thing that I had.
“I would have looked unwell. I was extremely thin and gaunt. It was so difficult. The audiences didn’t know how to feel. They’d get up, they’d leave. Sometimes they’d tell me that they were appalled by me.”
Seann previously declared his intention to move on from the scandal when he appeared on the ITV reality show ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ in 2022.
He said on the programme: “I just want to be clear in that I’m very sorry about what happened and I really want this to be a positive experience and it really has been. I want to come out of here and move forward.”

Coronation Street stars fearful as group scenes are cut down

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ stars are concerned as show bosses have cut down the number of characters that can appear in a storyline.
The ITV soap has been forced to adopt a “minimal” approach to ensemble scenes – such as those in the Rovers Return Inn – due to cost-cutting measures and the move is said to have alarmed cast members who are paid by the scene.
‘Corrie’ chiefs have also cut down the amount of extras used and have increased “back-to-back” filming that sees the stars on set for most of the day.
An insider told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “The bosses have decided we will take a far more minimal approach to storylines going forward, and are cutting the number of actors who appear in them. As large numbers of the cast are paid by scene, that means paying fewer actors to be on set.
“The changes haven’t gone down well with the cast. Many of them are panicking about what these cuts mean for their futures. The Corrie cast is absolutely massive – it has well over 50 cast members in total – and some of them haven’t filmed for weeks, so they are starting to get really worried about the axe falling on them before long. There is currently a real feeling of disquiet behind the scenes and people are openly sharing their concerns.”
A separate source added: “The bosses are clearly trying to cut down on additional costs that are deemed surplus to requirements, which makes a lot of sense when you look at the pressures being felt all across the industry. But it has been quite unsettling for the cast and crew, and it feels like a very uncertain time.”
The Manchester-set soap was criticised earlier this week by former star Bruce Jones, who played Les Battersby between 1997 and 2007, for losing its identity as he questioned the amount of murder plots and unrealistic stories.
Speaking to The Guardian newspaper, the 71-year-old actor said: “I watched it from day one, but now my wife says it’s not worth watching. You can’t have that many murders on one street.
“It’s not the actors fault. They’re all doing a good job, but it’s the writers that have changed.
“I think we’ve lost that element of what Manchester life is all about. The writers we had were all living Manchester city life.”

Joe Sugg ‘to host dating show’

OHMYGOSSIP — Joe Sugg is to host a new dating show after finding love on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The YouTuber – who met his girlfriend Dianne Buswell during his stint on ‘Strictly’ – is reportedly set to front a new programme called ‘The World’s Most Honest Game Show’ which will give singletons the chance to find out the truth about their potential partners before they dive into a relationship.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “It’s an exciting new dating format all about honesty, which means the singletons will find out both the best bits and the bad bits of the other contestants they fancy.
“The singles won’t be able to keep their not-so-good personality traits under wraps for long, with Joe helping both sides of each couple find out the truth.
“Of course, there’s also going to be a twist or two to keep things interesting.”
The publication reports Joe is preparing to film a pilot episode with his production company Final Straw and he hopes the show will be picked up by the BBC for a full series.
Joe found love with Dianne after they were paired up on the 2018 series of the BBC’s celebrity dance contest, and the dancer recently admitted she’s still amazed by their romance.
She told Closer magazine: “Joe and I will often sit there, thinking it’s crazy that it’s been five years since we’ve been together, we’re still amazed it all came from Strictly.
“We do wonder whether we’d actually have met if he hadn’t been on the show, I wouldn’t have got to know him!
“We still love to dance together. Joe loves ballroom and he’s always trying to do it with me in the kitchen. We’re going to have Argentine Tango lessons soon!”
When asked whether they plan to start a family in the future, Dianne added: “I think definitely for sure at one point we’ll have children.
“It’s something we’d both love, but we don’t know when just yet. We always say our kids are going to watch YouTube videos of us dancing one day, and that’s so cool!”

Ross Kemp thinks about the late Barbara Windsor most days

OHMYGOSSIP — Ross Kemp thinks about the late Dame Barbara Windsor most days.
The pair played the legendary Grant and Peggy Mitchell (son and mother) on the BBC One soap classic and were close friends in real life.
And following her death in December 2020, aged 83, following six years with Alzheimer’s Disease, Ross placed a picture of the screen legend on his wall as he was so “fond” of his co-star, and quipped that she wasn’t wearing “very much” in the snap.
He told The Sun’s TV Mag: “She’s someone that I loved, and I spoke to, I spent a lot of time with.
“I’ve got a picture of her in my house, so I bounce past that every day – it’s a picture of her when she was about 23, wearing not very much, funnily enough, but I don’t think of her in that way! I was just very fond of her.
“And she was one of those old big stars, you know, probably the like we will never see again. And she was a friend and I was very close to her.”
On their close bond, he continued: “The set at the Vic is a bar, obviously, that goes around in a sort of semi horseshoe, and then there’s a stairwell that goes up through the middle of it, and that stairs goes nowhere.
“It goes up into some lights. But I’d let her sit on the stairs and I’d sit on a crate and we just natter in between takes.”
Asked if he would get any advice from her, he laughed: “I wouldn’t listen to her advice! Barbara? Listen to her advice?!”
He added: “She was so eyes and teeth and laughs and giggles and all that, but there was very serious side to her and she’d seen some quite dark things in her life.
“What would she be thinking now? She’d be thinking: ‘Talk more about me, darling!’ That’s what she’d be saying. ‘You haven’t mentioned the moment we did this!’ ‘Oh, you missed an opportunity there – you should have told them about that.'”
The ‘Ross Kemp in Afghanistan’ presenter is proud to carry on Barbara’s charity work and is generous with his time for others like the ‘Carry On’ star was.
He added: “She was very good at how she presented herself, and she always had time for everybody, and I think that’s something that I’ve tried to kind of follow in her footsteps – or her stilettos.
“I’ve also become the ambassador for London Poppy Day. so that’s a mantle that she passed on to me and the RBL [Royal British Legion] wanted me to carry on.
“And so I think about her, you know, when we get around to that time of year, as I think of a lot of young men that I was with in Afghanistan who sadly didn’t make it back or if they did, they came back damaged in some way.”

Emily Alyn Lind haunted by childhood horror role

OHMYGOSSIP — Emily Alyn Lind is still haunted by her work on horror movie ‘Enter the Void’ when she was five years old.
The ‘Gossip Girl’ star played a young girl who sees her family killed in a car accident in the 2009 film, and she remembers the gory scenes vividly despite her young age and believes it inspired her to take on darker parts as an adult.
Emily, now 21, told The Hollywood Reporter: “That [film] was such an experience in and of itself. I don’t know if it’s paranormal, but it feels like the ghost of my past at this point. I was like five years old, and it was the craziest experience.
“People tell me: ‘Oh, you don’t remember being five or six years old,’ and I’m always like: ‘I do, because I basically lived through a traumatic experience’.
“Yes, it was fake, but it was an extreme and tragic experience of being in a car crash where my character’s whole family dies in front of her at age five. So that was just a wild experience with all the fake blood, and it’s the reason I do what I do today.”
She went on to appear in films such as ‘The Babysitter’ and ‘Doctor Sleep’ and was recently seen in paranormal sequel ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’, and Emily says she’s always been drawn to the genre. She added: “I’ve been in a lot of horror films and whatnot. I’ve perfected my scream way too well, and there’s blood that’s going to be on my scalp for the rest of my life.
