Avatar 2 paved the way for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes with ground-breaking CGI

OHMYGOSSIP — Blockbuster ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ could not have been achieved without ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’.
Director Wes Ball has revealed the research and development that went into James Cameron’s 2022 ‘Avatar’ sequel paved the way for the CGI water used in the first flick in a new trilogy in the sci-fi action series.
The filmmaker told ComicBook.com: “We could not have done water if they hadn’t done a major kind of R and D on Avatar: The Way of Water. And we took that and went further with it.”
He continued: “There’s about 30 to 35 minutes minutes of full CG in the movie. I mean, everything is CG. That means every piece of bark, every leaf blowing in the wind is full CG. So that’s new for this move, this franchise. There are sets we just could not build, it was not possible, we couldn’t afford to do it, we didn’t have time to do it. So I hope for the audiences it will just go right by them. They won’t see that. But I’m really proud of some of that stuff where it’s like you cannot tell this is all CG.”
Ball insists it will “take time” to make further movies in the franchise, because the quality will take precedence over speed in terms of future flicks.
He told the outlet: “It’ll take as long as it takes. Fortunately, because this franchise is important to the studio, we’ll get it right like we did this one, took our time and got it right.
“It takes time, the development itself, and my big thing is I do not want to go into prep when the script is not done. I’ve had to do that in the past. Nothing good comes from that.”
He continued: “That’s one of the biggest things that movies could be doing right now is stop doing that. We’d save a ton of money.
“I think on this one that we are in good, good shape. Fortunately, we were thinking a lot about these questions when we were developing this script.”
The director explained that there is “lots of room for great drama” in the wake of the new movie – which sees Owen Teague taking over the lead role as chimpanzee Noa.
He said: “We have an idea where we wanna go and there’s lots of room for great drama. Literally, doors have opened at the end of this movie that hopefully reveal a much larger world that we get to explore in this movie, full of drama, full of conflict, all that kind of stuff. Fingers crossed. We’ll see.”

Anthony Ramos thrilled to use real accent on Twisters

OHMYGOSSIP — Anthony Ramos was thrilled when Steven Spielberg asked him to use his real accent in ‘Twisters’.
The actor is among the actors cast in the sequel to 1996 disaster movie ‘Twisters’ which starred Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt as storm chasers caught up in a tornado which wreaks havoc across Oklahoma – and he has now revealed he was “surprised” when executive producer Spielberg asked him to use his real voice instead of trying a Southern drawl because he has never heard someone with the same dialect on screen.
He told Entertainment Weekly: “I heard Steven [Spielberg] was like, ‘No, I want him to do it in his dialect’. It was a little surprising to me, but it was really cool, to me, because I’ve never heard someone who speaks in my vernacular – especially this New York, Northeast, Latino dialect that I have – in a movie of this size, in a place like Oklahoma.
“It makes me feel it’s possible for a kid from the hood to go to a school like OU, study meteorology, be this brilliant meteorologist and storm chaser. This is something that a kid like me could do. I thought that that was really cool.”
‘Twisters’ also stars Daisy Edgar Jones, Glen Powell and Maura Tierney and is directed by Lee Isaac Chung.
Ramos said of the director: “[He] is a guy that directs these really niche, smaller, beautiful films. And here he is doing this massive movie. I knew he was going to bring the heart and soul to it.”
He went on to add of the blockbuster: “It’s insane, bro. Between the amazing crew and this cast, it all made the experience as real as possible. It was intense. I can’t wait for people to sit in a theatre and experience it.”
‘Twisters’ hits cinemas on July 19.

Jeremy Vine hints quiz show ‘Eggheads’ is dead

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Vine has hinted long-running quiz show ‘Eggheads’ is dead.
Its former host, 58, fronted the show from 2008 after it started to air five years earlier, and rumours have been rife the quiz show had been shelved since its last episode screened in April 2023.
Jeremy has now told The Sun: “I haven’t heard anything about ‘Eggheads’ for a while now.
“I think I have done about 1,200 shows – but whether we are doing any more I don’t know.
“We last filmed an episode over a year ago.
“It may well be we are doing it in 30 years’ time, who knows, but no immediate plans for any more.”
‘Eggheads’ started on BBC One before moving to BBC Two and then Channel 5 in in 2021.
It saw a group of contestants take on a panel of ‘egghead’ experts to win money, similar to ITV’s ‘The Chase’.
When it started in 2003 it was hosted by Dermot Murnaghan, 66, before Jeremy came in as co-chair in 2008, with the pair rotating before he became the only presenter of the series for its 16th run.
It has been branded the country’s most winnable game show.
A survey by JackpotJoy analysed 28 major UK gameshows to see which had the highest ‘win-ability’ – with ‘University Challenge’ emerging as the hardest to crack.
They were scored out of 20 on their maximum cash prize, number of team members and opponents, volume of questions or rounds, and the type of skill required.
‘University Challenge’ scored lowest, with no cash prize and was rated the most difficult to win.
‘Pointless’ was second on the win-ability chart, followed by ‘The Wall’, ‘The Chase’, and Rylan Clark’s ‘Supermarket Sweep’.

‘Bear Hunt’ stars ‘warned about deadly animal attacks’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Bear Hunt’ stars have reportedly been warned about deadly animal attacks as they prepare to begin filming for the show.
The Netflix programme – which will be presented by Holly Willoughby, 43 – sees contestants try to survive the Costa Rican jungle while Bear Grylls, 49, hunts them as prey.
Now, according to industry insiders, the stars have been warned about the dangerous animals lurking in the wilderness, and the network has provided a 24/7 medical team to ensure their welfare.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “‘The Bear Hunt’ is not for the faint-hearted and all the celebrities who have signed up know they’re going to be heading into the wild where it’s teeming with animal nasties.
“As well as snakes like the venomous hog-nosed pit viper and spiders like the black widow and brown recluse, the jungle is also teeming with bats which can spread rabies.
“Naturally, every precaution possible has been put in place by Netflix to ensure the safety of everyone working on the show, from the crew to the celebrities, but it’s a show which isn’t for the faint hearted.”
The rumoured line-up for the programme includes Spice Girls singer Mel B, model Lottie Moss, tennis star Boris Becker and ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge Shirley Ballas.
Previously, it had been said that Little Mix’s Jesy Nelson had been in talks to appear on the show, though allegedly failed to strike a deal with Netflix.
An insider told The Sun: “Jesy had meetings with producers who were casting for the show, but in the end they couldn’t come to a deal, so Jesy won’t be in the final line-up.
“It will be a real blow to Little Mix fans who were excited to see her back in the public eye, and it would have been a huge global gig for Jesy, but bosses met with loads of big celeb names and not everyone ends up in the confirmed mix.
“The show is set to be a huge hit though and Netflix are ploughing loads of money into it so it’s sure to get another series – don’t be surprised if Jesy ends up in the line-up for the second season.”

Russell Kane launches bizarre rant against Northern Lights

OHMYGOSSIP — TV comic Russell Kane has launched a bizarre rant against the Northern Lights.
The former ‘Steph’s Packed Lunch’ regular, 48, raged about how he was bored of hearing about the phenomenon after millions of skywatchers kept their eyes peeled late on Friday (10.05.24) and Saturday for the illuminations after they lit up parts of the UK thanks to an ultra-rare Sun storm that threw solar flares at Earth.
He ranted on his Instagram: “Am I the only one that doesn’t give a t*** about the Northern Lights?
“Can everyone stop telling me to get out of my bed and look out the window because there’s some green light in the sky? I don’t give a s***, right.
“Oh, maybe that makes me ignorant, or I don’t appreciate my planet or I’m small minded on some level.
“But I’m sorry – I don’t give a f***. I don’t care.
“Yeah, I was in bed last night – I had about five wines. If you’d have told me there was a green light outside my window s******* aliens onto a pile of cash, I still would have f***** in my sleep and gone back to sleep.
“F*** off – don’t care.”
The Evil Genius’ host was attacked by followers on his Instagram who branded him everything from “miserable” to a killjoy.
He has filled his Instagram with foul-mouthed rants about subjects ranging from couples who post Valentine’s messages about each other to millennials’ dating conversations.
Russell was recently in the headlines for saying he had found the “elixir of youth” in a ‘biohacking’ pill invented by his wife Lindsey.
He said she developed it after he started taking more than 12 supplements a day to try and maintain the energy of someone in their early-20s.
In 2021, Lindsey made Jolt, a £1.99-a-day supplement that Russell says has sent his libido through the roof.
He told MailOnline: “Energy wise, that’s been the main change. But looking at my skin, looking at photos, I can see how much more haggard I was. I’ve not cleaned up my going out and going to Ibiza and I still love a beer, I love a wine, it’s not like I was a junkie – I’m doing everything the same.
“I just feel more vibrant, I feel more alive. And the other one that Lindsey wouldn’t want me to tell you, my libido is off the f****** charts.
“I know all men are pervy their entire lives until they die but poor old Lindsey – it is sort of like 19-year-old, teenage man energy wise, that’s what I’m like.
“So permanently f****** horny, I’m afraid, poor Lindsey because we’re married so she’s no interest in that really.
“That’s a lie – she’s also taking Jolt.”

Mark Labbett anxious to sign up to ‘I’m A Celeb’ over health fears

OHMYGOSSIP — Mark Labbett is hesitant to sign up to ‘I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!’ because of his health concerns.
The 58-year-old quizzer – best known as ‘The Beast’ on ‘The Chase’ – is worried the food he would eat during the programme would make him ill, and thinks the show is “not worth it” for him.
Speaking to ITV, he said: “People who’ve done the jungle said they had really bad problems with their stomach afterwards for a couple of months.
“And you just think, ‘It’s not worth it.’
“If you want to eat grubs, something which is nutritious, that’s fair enough. But when they give you fermented and rancid stuff, that’s not my personal thing!”
Mark – who has been in headlines after losing 10 stone following a lifestyle overhaul – previously claimed he had been approached to appear on the show four times, but rejected every offer because his weight had always proven to be an issue.
He told the Daily Star: “Four times I’ve been asked to apply for an ITV reality TV show. But at every point they’ve gone from really wanting me to suddenly my weight is an issue. I’m getting a bit jacked off about that. Especially now that I’m down to the weight I am.
“They really worry on ‘I’m A Celebrity’ about big stars who have shut down. They don’t allow for the fact that a guy like me, 3000 calories is a diet.”
In a separate interview with the outlet, Mark warned ITV bosses he wouldn’t be a good pick for the programme because he “might be the campmate from hell.”
He explained: “I get hangry, which is being angry because I’m hungry. And that is not good.
“I am a man who likes his food. I make no bones about it … my father was a butcher, so I know basic butchery.
“If somebody crosses me and it affects the food, I will have them up on a spit and roast them within five minutes.”

Ryan Phillippe and Kate Beckinsale lead cast of The Patient

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Phillippe and Kate Beckinsale are leading the cast of ‘The Patient’.
Director Mukunda Michael Dewil penned the screenplay for the thriller, which also stars Kelly Greyson and David Cade, and the under-the-radar project has already wrapped principal photography, which took place in Alabama earlier this year.
A logline for the movie states: “When The Patient (Phillippe) wakes up in a hospital without any recollection of what happened to him, he is issued a life he doesn’t remember by the inscrutable Dr. Rose (Beckinsale). But soon he comes to suspect that he’s being manipulated in order to protect a powerful politician implicated in a murder.”
The film is launching in the Cannes market with International Film Trust, with Sales President Christian de Gallegos on hand to screen a promo for distributors.
Producer Robert Ogden Barnum of The Barnum Picture Company said in a statement: “The Patient is my third time getting to join forces with Ryan and Mukunda and just as on our previous two films, it’s been a fantastic experience. Mukunda’s stellar script speaks for itself and adding Kate into the mix is the cherry on top.”
Benaroya Pictures CEO and IFT Founder Michael Benaroya added: “With its twisted thriller ride and outstanding cast, ‘The Patient’ is exactly the type of project for which we’re always on the lookout.
“Ryan and Kate are terrific actors that resonate with distributors worldwide.”
Ryan recently spoke of how he’s turned to religion and found “peace”.
Reflecting on his movie ‘Prey’, he told Fox News Digital: “It’s interesting because I was kind of in a darker place when we filmed this, and it was right after filming it where I went on this spiritual journey where I started going really deep inside.
“I got back into reading the Bible and various other religious tomes, but I found myself drawn to this notion of spirituality.
“You get to a point in life, a certain age, and the things that you thought would bring you pleasure or make you feel satisfied – these would be success or money – and it doesn’t. It doesn’t.
“And so you look for more. And I’m so thankful for what I’ve been given and for the experiences that I’ve had and for my children and everything else. But I wanted to have a relationship and understanding with God, and I was craving that.”

Danny DeVito and Andie MacDowell make holiday movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny DeVito and Andie MacDowell have made a festive movie.
VMI Worldwide have scooped the international sales rights to ‘A Sudden Case of Christmas’ and are set to present the holiday film – which also stars Wilmer Valderrama and the ‘Twins’ star’s daughter Lucy – to buyers at this week’s Cannes Market, Deadline reports.
‘The Space Between Us’ filmmaker Peter Chelsom is directing the picture from a screenplay he co-wrote with Tinker Lindsay, Gianluca Bomprezzi, Neri Parenti, Dederico Baccomo and Francesco Patierno.
‘A Sudden Case of Christmas’ follows Lawrence (Danny DeVito), who runs a grand hotel in the mountains of Italy, where he hosts his extended family for Christmas. However, he’s shocked in August when his daughter (Lucy DeVito) and her husband (Valderrama) bring their 10-year-old daughter Claire (Antonella Rose) to visit, only to task him with the task of telling the youngster her parents are divorcing.
When Claire realises her whole family won’t be returning to the hotel in December as a result, she insists they have one last Christmas in the middle of summer, causing her other grandparents – played by MacDowell and Jose Zuniga – to be summoned, while Lawrence and his granddaughter plan activities designed to reunite the divorcing couple and bring the clan back together.
Andre Relis, CEO of VMI Worldwide, said: “We are honoured to introduce the heartwarming picture ‘A Sudden Case of Christmas’ to the international buyers in Cannes.
“The film inhabits the true meaning of love, family, and Christmas set against the beautiful Dolomite Mountain range of Italy.”
Guglielmo Marchetti, Chairman of Notorious Pictures, added: “We are enthusiastic about this collaboration, the VMI team immediately understood the great potential of ‘A Sudden Case of Christmas’. Like us, they loved this film, a rom-com that warms the heart and is still a fun watchable experience.”

Hugh Dennis missed ‘comedy magic’ on panel shows

OHMYGOSSIP — Hugh Dennis has admitted he sometimes missed the “comedy magic” on panel shows.
The 62-year-old actor and comic has long been entertaining the nation on TV programmes like ‘Mock the Week’ – which ran from 2005 to 2022 – though has now revealed he sometimes missed the comedic genius around him as he was “desperately thinking” about what to say next.
Speaking to the Metro’s 60 Seconds column, he said: “Most of the time when you’re on a panel show, you’re desperately thinking about what you say next, so you’re missing all the comedy magic happening around you.”
Hugh also revealed Rowan Atkinson, 69, was amongst his favourite comedians, and explained he was the first stand-up star he saw that could “move the air” with laughter.
He said: “I have been amazingly lucky to work with Lee Mack in ‘Not Going Out’ and various things.
“I remember a gig organised by Jasper for the NSPCC, where the headliner was Rowan Atkinson. It was the first time I became aware that if enough people laugh at the same time, it moves the air.
“You can feel that wave of laughter coming – astonishing.
“James Acaster, I find stupidly funny, too.”
The comedian was quizzed on whether his cameo appearance in the James Bond flick ‘No Time To Die’ was the pinnacle of his career, but Hugh insisted his best work is still to come.
He added: “That was an amazing thing to be asked to do – I’m so glad I did it.
“[But] I’m most proud of ‘Outnumbered’, just because it was such a good thing to be a part of and [it was] a lovely production.
“Then even though I only did four days on ‘Fleabag’, it was a phenomenon – I’m really pleased to have been a part of that.
“But I like to think the pinnacle of my career hast come. I don’t know whether that’s going to work out!”

Rio Ferdinand admits he’ll hound James Corden over ‘Gavin and Stacey’ comeback plot

OHMYGOSSIP — Rio Ferdinand is planning to pester James Corden about the plot of the upcoming ‘Gavin and Stacey’ special.
The beloved BBC Three comedy, written by James, 45, and Ruth Jones, 57, is set to return for a final festive on-off later this year, and former footballer Rio, 45, has admitted he’s determined to get details about the episode out of his friend.
He was quoted by the Daily Star newspaper saying: “I will be stalking him as it gets closer.
“I’ll be seeing him a lot more now ‘Gavin and Stacey’ is coming.”
Last week, James and Ruth finally revealed ‘Gavin and Stacey’ would be returning to screens for the final time.
They posted a picture to James’ Instagram of the pair holding up the script for ‘Gavin and Stacey: The Finale’, and added the caption: “It’s official! We have finished writing the last ever episode of ‘Gavin and Stacey’.
“See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James.”
Although it is not confirmed at the moment, it is probable the original ‘Gavin and Stacey’ cast – which included Mathew Horne, Joanna Page, Larry Lamb, Alison Steadman and Rob Brydon – will be reprising their roles in what will be their final outing as their characters.
Previously, it had been heavily rumoured the show would be returning for another festive episode this year, but Ruth insisted the story was simply just gossip.
She told RTE Radio 1: “All I can say is, if there was something to say on that front, James and I would happily announce it, we would.”
The actress also said the story came out after she was spotted with James in the UK after he finished his stint as the lost for ‘The Late Late Show’ in the US.
She added: “Then the next thing is, ‘Oh my god they must be writing more ‘Gavin and Stacey’, which is lovely.
“It’s lovely that people are so desperate for it because imagine if it was the opposite and were like, ‘Oh, god, you’re not bringing that back again.’”

Stephen Mulhern opens up about suffering horrific bullying at school

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephen Mulhern suffered horrific bullying at school.
The 47-year-old ‘Catchphrase’ host – who keeps his private life so under wraps his Wikipedia page doesn’t have a Personal section – revealed he was picked on in an interview to promote his ‘Max Magic’ trilogy of children’s books, which are modelled on his childhood and include his family’s real names and parents’ jobs.
He told the Daily Express: “I only had about two real friends at school and was bullied.
“There was a boy at the school I was at and the worst thing he ever did was in West Ham park.
“He said to me, ‘I want you to stand in the middle of the park and if you move from this spot before I leave the park I’m going to beat you up’.
“I must have stood there for at least an hour and a half. I was too scared to move. It’s always stayed with me. We always remember the worst things that happen to us.”
Stephen added about how he wants his school bully to envy his success: “I hope when this goes into your paper, and he’s reading it… well, who’s laughing now?”
Stephen also told how he used his magic to break into showbiz.
He added: “A long time ago, I was in a room with Ant and Dec, and one of the big telly bosses came in.
“At the time they were riding high, massively successful, and I was just plodding along. I saw my chance and said to Ant, ‘When the boss comes over, can you ask me to do a trick?’ He said OK.
“So Ant says, ‘Stephen, come on, show so and so a trick’. I reply something like, ‘Oh what? Really? I’m off duty… Fine, go on then, let me have a go’ in a very nonchalant manner, but of course then do the trick.
“‘You cheeky so and so’, Ant says with a smile once the boss had gone. And that’s how we all became friends. I think the big boss liked it too.”
Stephen has previously told The Sun his bullying incident was “horrific” and added he wanted his books to be “relatable” and dreams of them helping people going through similar traumas.

James May wants under-par pubs culled

OHMYGOSSIP — James May wants bad pubs culled.
The former ‘Top Gear’ host, 61, who presented the show with Jeremy Clarkson, 64, and Richard Hammond 54, from 2003 to 2015, has a half-shared in The Royal Oak bar in Swallowcliffe, Wiltshire, and thinks Britain is “oversubscribed” with boozers.
He told The Daily Telegraph: “We shouldn’t think of pubs being an essential part of our heritage or an important tradition, because they’re not monuments, they’re pubs and they have to work.”
James chatted about the state of the UK’s watering holes as thousands have been closing since Covid amid downturns in business and the cost of living crisis.
He also used his interview to rail against government attempts to prop up the trade and said only “really good pubs” will survive.
It comes after he said he tried brewing low-strength beer at his pub so drinkers could “have a few and still drive home”.
Despite loving his 18th Century pub – which James bought half of in 2020 – the ‘Oh Cook!’ presenter has admitted becoming a landlord was not “a good business proposition” due to crippling overheads.
He added to the Morning Advertiser: “It’s not insulated, the paint flakes off the wall, it’s partly thatched, sinkholes appear in the car park and it’s a high maintenance building so reserve of cash is pretty tiny really given the size of the turnover.
“It’s not a good business proposition and nobody should buy a pub thinking they’re going to make a fortune out of it because you absolutely won’t.”
He added the answer could lie in turning these establishments into “charitable institutions” the local population frequently flocked to.
James said: “Pubs could be turned into charitable institutions – that might be the answer.
“People like to say the pub is an important hub of the community and it’s a meeting place, which is all true, but it’s only true if people are using it.
“If people aren’t using it, it’s not an important hub and then it should be a surprise when it disappears.
“It’s pretty simple – use the pub if you like it and it will survive, if you don’t use it, it will go.”

Phoebe Dynevor in talks to star in untitled shark thriller

OHMYGOSSIP — Phoebe Dynevor is in talks to star in a shark thriller.
The former ‘Bridgerton’ actress is said to have entered discussions about appearing in the as-yet untitled movie from Sony Pictures.
According to Deadline, Tommy Wirkola will direct after he penned the script, but plot details are yet to be released.
Production on the motion picture is due to start in Australia this summer, with Adam McKay and Kevin Messick in line to produce the project.
In February, the 29-year-old star claimed there is “not that many parts going” for actresses in her age bracket.
She told the London Evening Standard newspaper: “I have read some great scripts recently. And yeah, I probably shouldn’t be saying this, but there is still, like, not that many parts going.
“There is such a space for male actors … there are so many of them. And they’re all great.
“They’re all very talented young men, and they do not stop working, and good for them.
“But you know, when I think about the girls my age … there’s way more room for them and there is still not enough room for us.
“It’s a really good time for older women, which is amazing, and there’s a lot for these young men, but not a lot for the actresses that I know in my age bracket.”
The ‘Fair Play’ star also admitted she is keen to work behind the camera in the future, because it is a “dream” of hers.
She added: “I eventually want to produce. I would like to create the material that I feel is missing.
“I don’t know when that will be, but it’s a dream of mine.”

Steph McGovern and Joe Thomas ‘complete Bear Hunt lineup’

OHMYGOSSIP — Steph McGovern and Joe Thomas are the final two contestants who have signed up for Netflix show ‘Bear Hunt’.
The TV presenter and the ‘Inbetweeners’ actor are said to have flown to Costa Rica this month to take part in the brand-new programme, which stars Bear Grylls and is hosted by Holly Willoughby.
A production insider told The Sun newspaper: “Signing up Steph and Joe have made this one of the most diverse and unusual celebrity line up ever seen on a show like this.
“The dozen celebrities come from incredibly different backgrounds – whether it’s ballroom dancing, singing, sport or interior design. They’ll each bring something to the mix.
“None of the choices are obvious – particularly not Steph and Joe, neither of whom have been on our screens in some time.”
Spice Girl Mel B, former tennis pro Boris Becker, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ head judge Shirley Ballas, and models Lottie Moss and Leomie Anderson are also said be part of the inaugural line up.
In the upcoming show, survival expert Bear will put the stars through their paces as he challenges them to survive in the Costa Rican jungle, before chasing down strugglers in a cat-and-mouse style “Bear Hunt”.
Changing Rooms star Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, former rugby star Danny Cipriani, ‘Ted Lasso’ actor Kola Bokinni, singer Una Healy, and rapper Big Zuu are also expected to take part in the programme.
The Saturdays star Una is said to have signed up for the show to “show a different side to her”.
A source previous told the publication: “Netflix have chucked a serious amount of money at ‘Bear Hunt’ and they have worked hard to get celebrities you might not expect to find in the Costa Rican jungle.
“Una has signed up to try and show a different side to her.
“People know her for The Saturdays, and for her short-lived fling with David Haye.
“Taking part in ‘Bear Hunt’ will show a side of her that the public haven’t seen before.”
