Donnie Yen to lead new John Wick spin-off film

OHMYGOSSIP — Donnie Yen is to star in a new ‘John Wick’ spin-off movie.
The 60-year-old actor will reprise his role as the assassin Caine in the untitled feature that will expand the action franchise.
The movie is set to shoot in Hong Kong in 2025 and will be set after the events of ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ where Caine has been freed from his obligations to the High Table.
No director has been announced for the flick but Chad Stahelski – who helmed the four previous films – is helping to develop the movie as part of a deal with Lionsgate to expand the ‘John Wick’ universe.
Robert Askins is writing the screenplay for the flick with Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee once again producing for their Thunder Road company.
It is the latest new project in the series as a separate spin-off, ‘Ballerina’, will star Ana de Armas in the lead role and is slated for release in June 2025.
Donnie said in a statement: “Working on ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ was an extraordinary experience.
“The reason these films resonate so deeply is because, like myself, Chad, Basil and Erica push themselves to create action, fights and stunts that are not only thrilling, inventive and artistic, but also expressive of character, story and emotion.
“Caine is an incredible character with a haunted past, and I am excited to return to the role.”
Adam Fogelson, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, added: “From the moment Donnie Yen appeared on screen in ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’, he captivated audiences and created an authentic, emotional connection that left an indelible mark and had fans asking for more.”

George Miller considered the use of de-aging technology in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

OHMYGOSSIP — George Miller contemplated using de-aging technology so that Charlize Theron could feature in ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’.
The 79-year-old filmmaker has helmed the new ‘Mad Max’ prequel and explained that he opted to cast Anya Taylor-Joy as a younger version of the title character after being left unconvinced by the use of the tech in films such as Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Irishman’ and Ang Lee’s ‘Gemini Man’.
George told Variety: “Both of them were masterful directors, but it was never persuasive.
“I thought all people would be watching is Charlize looking young and knowing it’s an effect.”
The director has always been interested in the use of technology in cinema – as shown in films such as ‘Babe’ and ‘Happy Feet’ – but conceded that it would have been “difficult” to implement it in his latest blockbuster.
Miller said: “I mean basically, we’re following someone from the age of 10 to 26, 28, something like that. It would have been difficult.”
The ‘Witches of Eastwick’ director recognised that Anya had all the “making” to portray Furiosa and is glad to have made the “intuitive decision” to cast her in the picture.
George explained: “She had, in that physical sense, all the making of that character – someone who has a lot of natural skills and abilities and someone who could survive in the wasteland, which is a pretty uncompromising world. She embodied all of that.
“Ultimately, it’s an intuitive decision working with someone until you make that leap… I’m really proud of that work and the way the whole cast worked together.”
Miller also stated that the atmosphere on ‘Furiosa’ was far more harmonious than its predecessor ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’, which was marred by a feud between Theron and co-star Tom Hardy.
He said: “The well-documented problems between Tom and Charlize, that kind of made things more complicated.
“But on ‘Furiosa’, there was none of that. So all of our energy could be spent on the work.”

In the show, Dermot – who has opened two of his own fish-themed restaurants – will head back to his family roots in the Emerald Isle on a gastronomic tour, in a bid to find out the Ireland’s best-kept delicious secrets.
Dermot said: “I can’t wait to embark on this trip, to explore two of my great loves, Ireland and food.
“The food scene in Ireland is so exciting and to meet the people and try the produce will be a real treat.
“It’s exciting to see modern Ireland through second generation eyes – and to show that Ireland’s food is more than cabbage and stews… although all their cabbage and stews are also great!”
Dermot will taste his way across Ireland, sampling the likes of traditional Irish stew, soda bread, fresh seafood, and boxty potato pancakes.

Megan Prescott funding Edinburgh Fringe show by selling OnlyFans content

OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘Skins’ star Megan Prescott is funding her upcoming Edinburgh Fringe show by selling nude content on OnlyFans.
The 32-year-old actress and bodybuilder, who portrayed Katie Fitch in the teen drama, will debut her one-woman theatre show ‘Really Good Exposure’ at the Edinburgh Fringe this summer, but to fund it she is offloading her X-rated pictures.
For the first time since starting her OnlyFans during the coronavirus pandemic, Megan is planning to sell full frontal, head-to-toe nude photos on the platform.
She said: “I am immensely proud to use my own lived experience of these industries to highlight the inconsistencies of how we treat workers based on outdated societal stigma and our own internal bias.
“We’ve been inundated with portrayals of sex work in the media, often in projects that had absolutely no input from sex workers themselves.
“We’ve also seen a number of news stories and documentaries come out recently which highlight the ugly side of the acting industry, but actors aren’t often able to speak out for fear of being ostracised and losing work.
“I’m delighted to be able to use my OnlyFans platform to raise awareness of my Edinburgh show. Plus… I really do need the money to pay for producing the show.”
Megan will also sell 10 images of a limited-edition nude image, which is a nod to one of her most iconic ‘Skins’ pictures.
She added: “Even selling these limited-edition images will only raise half the money needed to put on a month-long show. “Creative careers are financially inaccessible to a lot of people, which is why many people in creative industries subsidise their income with sex work.
“Although many cannot talk about it, as the stigma surrounding sex work means potentially losing out on work as a result.”
The star’s one-woman show is partly inspired by her own experience of fame.
The play follows the story of Molly Thomas, a former child star whose fame peaked in her teens.
In the show, the audience first meet her later down the line as she realises her career has never matched the dizzying heights of her initial fame.
Standing on the edge of her 30s, Molly looks towards the adult industry to keep food on the table when acting work continually isn’t paying her bills.

Jonnie Irwin’s wife reveals emotional final moments

OHMYGOSSIP — Jonnie Irwin told his wife he was “so happy” he met her in his final moments.
The late ‘A Place In The Sun’ presenter – who was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2020 – died in February aged 50, and his widow Jessica Holme has tearfully recalled the last conversation they shared before he passed away.
She told Hello! magazine: “He told me, ‘I’m so happy I met you,’ and that he knew the boys would have the most joy and fun a person could bring.
“We had so much fun, Jonnie and me, we were never boring, we weren’t best friends, we were lovers; there was passion.”
The couple found love back in 2015 after meeting through some mutual friends, and went onto have Rex, four, and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac together.
In Irwin’s last few days, Jessica cared for her husband at home, while she was also supported by nurses.
She described his death as “cruel by how quick it was”, as he had returned home from hospital and spent days in bed before dying.
She said: “It was cruel by how quick it was. He came out of hospital the previous Friday and we lost him a week later.
“He didn’t leave his bad the entire time, so we weren’t able to get out in the fresh air and process things.”
Jess kept telling herself “this can’t be it”, as they had “always” been told there would be a “neurological decline” before he died.
She added: “Two weeks before, he’d been playfully giving me grief for something, so I was stillm trying to get him to make plans and telling him off when I felt he was being negative.
“Now I wonder, did he know? That’s what makes me really, really, really sad, when I think what must have been going through his mind.”

‘I thought it was kind of funny’: Aubrey Plaza pours scorn on Megalopolis set chaos rumours

OHMYGOSSIP — Aubrey Plaza has rubbished speculation that ‘Megalopolis’ has endured a difficult production.
The 39-year-old actress plays journalist Wow Platinum in the new sci-fi epic from Francis Ford Coppola and has dismissed reports that ‘The Godfather’ filmmaker was struggling to keep control on set amid talk of a high staff turnover and escalating budget.
Speaking to Deadline, Aubrey said of the rumours: “I thought it was kind of funny.
“I would defend Francis all day long, but he doesn’t need my defence. I think when you’re on the inside of it, and you know what’s really going down, it’s almost like, ‘Let them make up their stories and let them cause a big ruckus about it. Why not? Drum up some attention for the movie.’
“I think it ends up, in my mind, all working for the movie.”
Aubrey explained that the opportunity to work with a “brilliant storyteller” in Coppola on his passion project was a dream come true and she hopes to be able to mimic his approach when she gets behind the camera.
The ‘Parks and Recreation’ star said: “I felt so inspired by him. And I think all of the things that I love about making a movie were all of the things that he loved about making a movie.
“I think that I will definitely carry that on when I direct a movie and remember that at the end of the day making the movie is just as important as the finished movie itself. Because he loved being on set and he loves the process of making it and playing.”
Plaza continued: “The thing that I was so impressed by, especially considering the enormous budget and the fact that it was all of his own money and time, and everything, was that he was not precious at all.
“You would think that if someone spent that much money on their own film that they would be so controlling and so particular about every single thing. But there was a real sense of collaboration and experimentation.”

The Crown star James Laurenson dies at the age of 84

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Crown’ star James Laurenson has died at the age of 84.
The actor – who was born in New Zealand but moved to the UK in the mid-1960s – starred as Doctor Weir in the Netflix series about the British royal family and his agent has confirmed his passing.
Laurenson worked extensively in television, theatre and film, making his movie debut in 1969 with a small part in Ken Russell’s acclaimed ‘Women In Love’.
He appeared in ITV soap ‘Coronation Street’ back in 1968 as the Reverend Peter Hope of St Mary’s Church and his extensive television resumé included roles in ‘Taggart’, ‘Prime Suspect’ and ‘Midsomer Murders’.
In 1970, Laurenson made British television history for participating in the first gay kiss shown on screen when he locked lips with Sir Ian McKellen in a TV adaptation of Christopher Marlowe’s ‘Edward II’.
The scene was aired three years after the decriminalisation of homosexuality.
The BBC remembered the significant moment in a post made on August 6, 2022 on the BBC Archive Twitter/X account.
Accompanied by a black and white still from the production, the post read: “#OnThisDay 1970: The first same-sex kiss was broadcast on British television.
“BBC Two’s broadcast of Christopher Marlowe’s Edward II included a kiss between Edward, played by Ian McKellen, and Gaveston, played by James Laurenson. #BBC100.”
In 2011, Laurenson was nominated for an Olivier award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his portrayal of the Ghost and the Player King in Nicholas Hytner’s production of ‘Hamlet’.
In 2022, Laurenson appeared as a sleeping teacher in the movie adaptation of Tim Minchin’s hit stage show ‘Matilda the Musical’.

Sigourney Weaver in talks for The Mandalorian movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Sigourney Weaver is in talks to join the cast of ‘The Mandalorian Grogu’.
According to The InSneider newsletter, the 74-year-old actress has reportedly been approached by LucasFilm about starring in the first ‘Star Wars’ movie to go into production since 2019’s ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’.
‘The Mandalorian’s Jon Favreau will direct the film, while Favreau, Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm chief creative officer Dave Filoni will produce.
No details of Weaver’s role have been revealed.
‘The Mandalorian’ TV series first launched in November 2019 as the flagship show for Disney+.
It stars Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, (The Mandalorian), a warrior who reluctantly cares for Grogu (Baby Yoda).
Pascal is expected to feature in the film, although it is not clear how large his role will be as the actor currently has a very full schedule.
He will play Mr. Fantastic in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie ‘The Fantastic Four’, that is due to begin shooting in the UK this summer ahead of a July 2025 release.
Matt Shakman’s upcoming film will mark the first time that ‘The Fantastic Four’ have been integrated into the MCU and Joseph Quinn (the Human Torch), recently brushed off any concerns that superhero fatigue could have an impact on the blockbuster’s performance.
The ‘Stranger Things’ star told Entertainment Weekly: “I think that with the story of the Fantastic Four, it feels like we want to get this right.
“There are aspects of it that are very different to other Marvel films. That felt very compelling to me. And again, going back to who’s involved, Matt (Shakman), of course, the director, I think is brilliant, and the cast, and I’ve read it and the script is brilliant. It’s really brilliant. I’m delighted to have this opportunity.”
Joseph added: “Superhero movies are movies about people. And if we’re invested in the people and the characters and the peril and the spectacle, then that’s why people go to the theatres to watch films. We’re not just in for a penny; we’re in for a pound with this one. We’re going to go for it.”

Chris Pine reveals why he decided to direct and who Poolman is dedicated to

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Pine “hadn’t thought about directing” until the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 43-year-old actor has made his name in movies like ‘Wonder Woman’ and the ‘Star Trek’ reboot film series but decided to direct, write and star in the new movie ‘Poolman’ – which follows an LA pool cleaner as he is approached by a femme fatale to help uncover corruption in a shady business deal – whilst the world was in lockdown.
He told MovieFone: “I’ve never thought about directing, and the stars aligned because of COVID, really. I had an idea for a pool man named Darren Barrenman that shot around in my brain for two years. Then COVID hit and I was bored and going through a lot of stuff personally. I decided to make it happen, and I tried to hire a writer, but he didn’t really work out, so I decided to write it with my writing partner. Then as I was writing it, I was thinking about it visually, so then it just felt like what I had to do.”
The ‘Wish’ star decided to follow the age-old advice of “writing what you know” so came up with a story that follows failed actors and directors in Hollywood because that was the world he grew up in and described the film as his “ode” to the ones who never made it big.
He said: “They say write about what you know, so I wrote about Los Angeles and about actors and failed actors and directors and failed directors. It was just the world that I grew up in in Los Angeles, which was kind of one foot on the “Boulevard of Dreams” and one foot in the “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.” So, I know this adjacent Hollywood that people know that’s the deep Valley, that’s actors trying to make a buck, who aren’t getting hired. This is my ode less to Los Angeles in many ways, and my ode to them, the people that come to this city and want to be famous and to have their stories heard, and don’t. I’m also a big preservation buff and a lover of Los Angeles architecture of old and not of what we’re doing now. I’m a lover of what we call the red trolley car system back in the day, which if you’ve seen ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ you know how that story went. This is my ode to a time in Los Angeles that I love and to a version of Los Angeles that I’m familiar with.”

Stacey Solomon ‘too busy’ for ‘Loose Women’

OHMYGOSSIP — Stacey Solomon is “too busy” for ‘Loose Women’.
The 34-year-old star stepped back from the ITV daytime show 18 months ago as she prepared to give birth to daughter Belle but co-star Linda Robson, 66, doesn’t think Stacey will ever return full time.
She told The Sun: “She’s not going to be a regular anymore? I don’t think so, but you never know.
“I would love her to come back, she’s a really good Loose Woman – she’s really honest. But I think she’s got too much on.
“She’s got her own series and her and Joe [Swash] are out in their little house. She’s still really welcome but she’s just so busy.”
Stacey joined the show in 2016 but after Belle’s birth she took on a number of other projects.
She has been working on ‘Sort Your Life Out’ for the BBC and ‘Renovation Rescue’ on Channel 4, although she made a brief appearance on ‘Loose Women’ last November.
She said: “It’s been crazy because Belle was a wonderful surprise, but what that meant was that I had to fit my filming schedule into a very short period of time.
“I’ve just been up and down the country with ‘Sort Your Life Out’ and filming another show so I haven’t been able to even get into town.”

Christopher Eccleston wants to make more documentaries

OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher Eccleston wants to follow up ‘The Guilty Innocent’ with more documentaries.
The ‘Doctor Who’ star has taken on his first ever presenting role in the two-part Sky History show and he wants to follow it up with more docs.
He told RadioTimes.com: “What I want to do is, I want to make more documentaries, and it’s interesting because I have a level of recognition.
“Often, when I get into an Uber or a taxi, or I’m walking down the street, people want to talk to me about me and acting. And that’s the last thing I want to do, is talk about me.
“So, down the years I’ve developed this skill, if you like, for turning the tables and asking people about them.
“I’ve done a number of interviews on [BBC] Radio 4, for Loose Ends. And that’s what I love, I love interviewing people, I love listening to people. I don’t love talking about myself.
“It’s like a doctor going to a party, you know, it’s the same thing. If you’re any worth as an actor, you don’t like talking about yourself. My job is to understand other individuals.”
In the series, Christopher looks at two controversial cases, the arrest of George Davis for the armed payroll robbery of the London Electricity Board, and the death of James Hanratty, which led to a campaign to end capital punishment in the UK.
He added: “To a certain extent, when I’m talking to George [Davis], I’m thinking, ‘Can I play him? Or can I play members of the Hanratty family? Can I empathise with their feeling of injustice and anger and stuff?’
“My job was to draw out their stories, and to become a conduit for the viewers.”
Christopher, 60, also revealed he has some ideas for the cases he would like to examine next.
He said: “The Stephen Lawrence case needs examining. I did a drama documentary about the Hillsborough disaster – I think there is still injustice there. That case is still not fully resolved, not that it ever will be because of the loss of 97 lives.
“Also, the Derek Bentley case, which, of course, I made a film about – Let Him Have It. There are so many, you know, it’s such a rich area for us to explore.”

Jack Keating shocked by baby after Love Island

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack Keating had no idea his ex-girlfriend was pregnant when he filmed ‘Love Island’.
The 25-year-old son of popstar Ronan Keating announced in February 2023 that he had become a dad just seven months after he left the show but Jack insisted he had no idea about the pregnancy when he was in the villa.
He told MailOnline: “As soon as I came off Love Island, seven months later, I became a dad. No, I didn’t know before going on the show.
“Adjusting to life after Love Island was hard enough but then I had to deal with being a father… But it has been the most amazing year and a half of my entire life. Maya turned one in February… She melts my heart every time I see her.
“I remember when I posted the Instagram photo [to announce the birth], I was so nervous. I didn’t actually want to press the button. It blew up.
“It was an amazing and happy time… but I kept asking myself, am I ready? Am I ready for what comes with this? I was terrified.
“There was a bombardment of messages and congratulations. I needed a personal assistant to get through all the messages for a week or two.”
Jack is very close to his parents – Ronan, 47, and ex-wife Yvonne Connonlly, 50 – and he has credited them with helping him cope.
He said: “I leant on my family and friends… I have a really big support system around me.
“My mum and my dad are the two heroes of my life and they’re the people I love the most.
“My two sisters and Cooper and Coco as well they raised so well. I really look to him for guidance and inspiration.
“All the knowledge and advice he has passed down to me has been great, I wouldn’t be here today without him. I’m a family first man, I come as a package deal, and I plan to stay that way.”
Ronan and Yvonne split in 2010 and also share daughters Missy, 23, and Ali, 18.
Ronan went on to marry Storm Uechtritz, 42, in 2015 and they have son Cooper, seven, and daughter Coco, four, together.

Camilla Thurlow and Jamie Jewitt welcome baby boy

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’ stars Camilla Thurlow and Jamie Jewitt have welcomed their third child together.
The couple – who met and fell in love while competing on the ITV2 reality TV show – have revealed that Camilla gave birth to son Brodie earlier this week.
They shared a post on Instagram which read: “And just like that.. we are a family of 5. Meet baby Brodie 12.38pm 8th May 6lb15oz.”
They added a number of sweet pictures with the new baby.
Camilla and Jamie – who were runners-up to to Amber Davies and Kem Cetinay in 2017 – already have daughters Nell, three, and Nora, two.
Jamie proposed in February 2021 by putting Nell in a ‘mummy will you marry my daddy?’ onesie.
They tied the knot in September 2021 at Gosfield Hall in Essex and they announced their second pregnancy just months later in December of that year.
Camilla previously revealed she feels a lot of “pressure” as a celebrity mum, telling OK! magazine: “Whether you’re in the spotlight or not, there is so much pressure on making sure you do the right thing as a mum. You just want to know your baby is happy, and that they’re soothed and comforted.
“Once you figure out what’s right for your family, in terms of a routine, it’s important to focus on that. Not all babies are the same and not all families are the same – it’s about finding the right thing for you.”
She added of her husband: “Jamie and I are a team. It’s good to be a team, especially if it’s going to be the two of them versus the two of us.”

Tommy Fury, Gladiators star Nitro wanted for Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Tommy Fury and ‘Gladiators’ star Nitro are in talks for the new series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 25-year-old reality star-and-boxer is in talks with producers, who see him and fiancee Molly-Mae Hague as the perfect names to attract a younger audience, but his high fee demands could end up scuppering the deal.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “They believe Molly-Mae in the audience would also pull in younger fans.
“Producers believe he would be a hit with the ladies.
“But his pay demands are too high.
“They’re hoping he will appreciate how ‘Strictly’ will generate a new type of follower for him.”
Meanwhile, after the success of rebooting ‘Gladiators’ in a Saturday evening slot earlier this year, ‘Strictly’ bosses think it would be great to get former Olympic sprinter Nitro – whose real name is Harry Aikines-Aryeetey – on board as a contestant.
The Gladiator appeared on the show in December to read out voting phone numbers and was filmed backstage showing off his moves with one of the programme’s professional dancers, Dianne Buswell.
A source said: “’Strictly’ chiefs think it’s a great idea to cross-pollinate entertainment shows and cast a Gladiator.
“Nitro is a fan favourite and has a lively personality, so it will be interesting to see how he harnesses that energy on the dance floor.”
A spokesperson for ‘Strictly’ played down the report.
The representative said: “We don’t comment on speculation.”
Meanwhile, show judge Craig Revel Horwood “would love” to see a darts player take to the floor.
He told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “There’s so many communities we haven’t explored and there’s a plethora of athletes – you know, we’ve had snooker, but we haven’t had a darts person, a world champion of darts.
“I mean, there’s a lot of people that we can still invest in and that’s the beauty about Strictly, that it crosses all different communities and teaches other communities about that community, you know? So I think there’s so many different ways to go with it.
“I would love to see a darts player on there, wouldn’t you? It would be bloody fabulous!”

Chris Hemsworth got ‘bored’ with his roles

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Hemsworth got “bored” of himself and suggested playing Thor has stopped him from being “stretched”.
The 40-year-old actor was delighted to land the role of warlord Dementus in his new movie ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ because it left him feeling invigorated, having spent so long feeling he was “stuck”.
Admitting it is his favourite role in over 10 years, Chris told Sunday Times Culture magazine: “I felt stuck in what I had been doing. I’d run out of things to say creatively and Furiosa reinvigorated the artistic energy that was dormant. I felt spent at the end of a day, rather than… It’s a departure.
“I was bored of myself, yeah. I was not bored of the opportunities I’d been given, but it all started to feel familiar.
” I’d done film upon film that fell into a similar space and I wasn’t stretching myself. If you play a character again and again you owe it to the audience to bring something new and make it fresh for yourself too.
“We did so with ‘Thor: Ragnarok’. But for ‘Love and Thunder’, for me it got a bit jokey. Too improv.”
Chris admitted he has felt “pigeonholed” by playing Thor.
He said: “If I ever went back to [‘Thor’] I’d wonder how we could change it again. But there is a superhero curse in the sense you get pigeonholed, and I’ve felt a little hamstrung with what I could do, so desperately wanted something to scare the s*** out of me. And ‘Furiosa’ did.”
The Australian actor is “bothered” by the comments made against Marvel blockbusters by the likes of directors Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola.
He said: “It felt harsh. And it bothers me, especially from heroes. It was an eye-roll for me, people bashing the superhero space. Those guys had films that didn’t work too — we all have. When they talked about what was wrong with superheroes, I thought, cool, tell that to the billions who watch them. Were they all wrong?
“And cinema-going did not change because of superheroes, but because of smartphones and social media. Superhero films actually kept people in the cinemas during that transition and now people are coming back. So they deserve a little more appreciation.”
But the former ‘Home and Away’ star is particularly infuriated by actors such as Idris Elba and Christian Bale who have appeared in Marvel films but then later been critical.
He said: “Nah. It’s, like, ‘They’re films that are successful — put me in one. Oh, mine didn’t work? I’ll bash them.’
“Look, I grew up on a soap opera and it used to bother me when actors would later talk about the show with guilt or shame. Humility goes a long way.
“One of the older actors on ‘Home and Away’ said, ‘We don’t get paid to make the good lines sound good, but to make the bad ones work.’ That stuck with me.”

‘I’m a movie star now’: Blake Shelton pays 40k for cameo role

OHMYGOSSIP — Blake Shelton has paid $40,000 for his first movie role.
The 47-year-old country singer is set to share the screen with Mark Wahlberg in an upcoming film after making the winning bid for a cameo during a live auction at the Keep Memory Alive’s 27th Annual Power of Love Gala in Las Vegas on Friday (10.05.24) night.
According to People magazine, Blake – who was honoured at the event for his philanthropic work – joked on stage later in the evening: “I don’t know if you guys saw the auction earlier. This is maybe the last time I’m ever gonna perform country music.
“I’m a movie star now. I’m not f****** around.”
But despite his apparent career change, Blake went on to perform ‘Sweet Caroline’, ‘Ole Red’ and ‘Sangria’ before inviting his wife and “secret weapon”Gwen Stefani on stage to sing ‘Nobody But You’ with him.
The No Doubt frontwoman had paid a touching tribute to her spouse earlier in the evening.
She said: “His heart is as big as his voice. His talent is obvious and he lights up the room and brings a smile to everyone he meets that makes us all love him so much. So whether he’s supporting an important cause and organisations across the country, he’s an incredible person.
“He supports veterans. He supports children’s hospitals, food banks, supports people with disabilities, disaster relief efforts, wildlife conservation or local communities in need, Blake’s generosity is genuine and endless. His dedication to giving back and making a difference and using his platform for good, both publicly and behind the scenes is truly inspiring.”
While it is unclear which movie Blake will appear in, Mark currently has four projects in the pipeline.
‘The Union’ and ‘Flight Risk’ can likely be ruled out for the former ‘Voice’ star’s cameo as they are both in post-production, but the ‘Instant Family’ star currently has ‘Play Dirty’ in production and ‘The Six Billion Dollar Man’ in pre-production.
