Robson Green in terrifying encounter with 14ft black caiman while filming new show

OHMYGOSSIP — Robson Green feared he would be eaten alive by a 14ft black caiman while filming his new show.
The 59-year-old actor and TV presenter was both terrified and full of admiration of the crocodilian reptile while shooting Channel 5 series ‘Into The Amazon With Robson Green’, but he knew his days would be “over” if the caiman decided to pounce.
He told OK! magazine: “I remember being alongside black caiman. We were on this beautiful Amazonian boat and there’s a black caiman there and it’s about 14ft long. I’m just thinking that if that comes anywhere near me, it’s over, it really is ‘Goodnight Vienna.’
“I was able to look at it in a completely different light and just go, ‘You are beautiful. You are an apex predator. Nothing’s going to argue with you!’ ”
While Robson avoided any incidents with the black caiman, he was attacked by a nest of black wasps after accidentally standing on them.
Robson was stung in the head seven times by the “really large” insects, and admitted it “hurt”.
He added: “I stepped on what can only be described as a hornet’s nest.
“Let’s just say these black wasps that are really large, got really upset and decided to let me know how upset they were.
“They got into my clothing and my hair and it really hurt.”
After Robson stepped on the nest, his guide shouted for the ‘Grantchester’ star and the crew to run away.
He added: “They would have beaten Usain Bolt in the 100m dash!
“Chris, our sound man, was off like a gazelle, you couldn’t see him for dust.
“I got seven stings, all in the same place, in the head! They sting more than once and it hurts.”
Robson previously told how he once had to hire security guards while filming his BBC Two series Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes – to protect former Newcastle United footballer Les Ferdinand.
The star – who is a lifelong fan of the Premier League team – said: “It’s funny with footballers because they’re like gods, and with Les Ferdinand [who features in episode one], we had to have security because he was completely mobbed!”

Bloodline looking for worldwide distribution at Cannes Film Festival

OHMYGOSSIP — The action thriller ‘Bloodline’ is seeking worldwide distribution at the Cannes Film Festival.
The movie has been co-directed by Jojo George and the production company Temple Capital Partners and is set to premiere at Cannes on Wednesday (15.05.24) as a global distribution deal is sought.
The Bashford Twins are co-producing the picture – which has been predominantly filmed in Kerala, India, and promises to captivate audiences with its gripping storylines.
The pair have familial ties to India and are culturally sensitive to Britain’s Colonial past in the country.
‘Bloodline’ centres on the journey made by Bella (Adrianna Edwards), a determined character who is on a quest to rescue her sister Alice, who has been lured into the forests of modern India by an Ancient curse.
During a film that unfolds through adrenaline-pumping chases, sword fights and martial arts showdowns, Bella discovers her connection to an ancient bloodline, hidden treasure and a centuries-old curse.
She narrates her story in the form of flashbacks to her therapist Dr. Harris (Suanne Braun) in present-day USA.
The UK casting was led by Carolyn McLeod to ensure a diverse and dynamic ensemble led by ‘The Princess Switch Trilogy’ actress Braun and rising star Edwards.
Martial artist Abbas Alizada – dubbed the Afghan Bruce Lee for his striking resemblance to the late star – rounds out the cast with actor-director George and Hannah Minnock as the doomed Alice.
The Bashford Twins said: “As filmmakers with familial ties to India, the chance to produce a movie there has been an ambition for us and working with Temple Capital Partners felt like a perfect it.
“Witnessing the breathtaking fight sequences orchestrated by seasoned stunt coordinator Mafia Sasi was incredible bringing back memories of watching Bruce Lee films with our dad.”
Temple Capital Partners added: “We’re delighted to have been able to support Jojo George in realising this dynamic story and showcase the diverse talent and rich cultural tapestry of the region.
“We have taken a hands-on role in producing, directing, and rewriting the script for a Western audience. As the sole finance house for the entire project, we have been involved directly in every decision throughout the post-production and were keen to bring out the high-quality work undertaken in India, through working with The Bashford Twins to finalise post-production.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Pratt has teased that a “Nintendo cinematic universe” could be in the pipeline.
The 44-year-old actor will once again play Mario in the recently-announced sequel to ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ and thinks there is “so much to explore” in terms of stories based on the characters created by the Japanese video game company.
Speaking to Screen Rant, Chris said: “Oh, man! There’s so much to explore. There are decades worth of (games) to explore, not only with Mario and Peach and Donkey Kong and Luigi and Bowser and Yoshi; that was teased at the end.
“But it just gets me so excited. I was such a Nintendo head growing up, so just thinking about how everything from ‘Legend of Zelda’ to the entire Nintendo cinematic universe could be created and what that could look like for all of these characters that I love?
“I mean, there’s really no limit. We could talk about it for hours.”
The second ‘Super Mario Bros.’ film was confirmed in March by Nintendo and is scheduled for release in April 2026.

Alongside a black-and-white photograph of the ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’ co-host, 48, and the newborn, their Instagram caption read: “Welcome to the family.
“Wilder Patrick Mcpartlin. Born, 14/05/24 at 8.54am Baby is beautiful, Mummy’s a legend, Sisters are over the moon. Dad’s a mess.”
The family have been inundated with messages of congratulations from their famous friends.
Davina McCall commented: “Arggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!! This is AMAZING !!!! Congratulations to ALL of you.”
‘First Dates’ star Fred Sirieix wrote: “Congrats.” Another fan commented: “I’ve never been so happy for someone I’ve never met. You’re going to be the best daddy Ant.”
Ant and his 46-year-old ex-personal assistant Anne-Marie – who has two children from a previous relationship – kept their baby news private.
However, a source told The Sun: “This is the news everyone wanted. Ant and Anne-Marie are beyond delighted. It’s no secret that Ant has always wanted children, but that it may never happen for him was something he had, sadly, come to terms with.
“When they found out last year, they were absolutely delighted, but obviously kept the news quiet for as long as possible. To be having a child two years short of his 50th birthday, with the love of his life, is the stuff of dreams for Ant. He’s already a wonderful, doting father to Anne-Marie’s kids, and together they’re going to be brilliant parents to this latest addition to the family.”
Ant has always wanted to be a dad, and he and his ex-wife, makeup artist Lisa Armstrong, 47, tried to have children.
He previously told the Radio Times: “Lisa and I would love to have kids. We’re trying. It’s tougher than you think when you get a bit older.”
The pair split in 2018, after 11 years of marriage, and his relationship with Anne-Marie was made public just six months later.

The ‘Fleabag’ creator, 38, will write and executive produce the latest adaptation of the popular video game series, which was famously turned into a film franchise starring Angelina Jolie and then Alicia Vikander as archaeology adventurer Lara Croft.
Amazon announced on Tuesday (14.05.24) it had commissioned the series, with Phoebe saying in a statement: “If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode.
“‘Tomb Raider’ has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators.
“Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”
Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon and MGM Studios, said about the commission during Amazon’s first upfront presentation on Tuesday: “Phoebe has a lifelong love affair with Lara Croft, and very soon we’ll start the world wide search for who will play this iconic role.”
The news comes on the back of the huge success of Prime Video’s ‘Fallout’ video game adaptation, which scored a quick season two renewal.
Phoebe’s upcoming series will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
Originally created by British video game developer Core Design, ‘Tomb Raider’ has become one of the most iconic video game franchises in history.
As of 2022, the game franchise has released more than 20 games and sold more than 95 million copies.
It follows Indian Jones-style British archaeologist Lara Croft who travels the world searching for lost artifacts.
Phoebe’s take on the game will be produced by Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios.
Alongside Phoebe, its executive producers include Jenny Robbins from Wells Street Productions, Dmitri M Johnson of dj2 Entertainment and Michael Scheel and Legendary Television.
Amanda Greenblatt and Ryan Andolina will serve as consulting producers under their Star Party banner.
Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games previously announced they would be collaborating to publish a new multiplatform ‘Tomb Raider’ game, which is currently unpublished but will be a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure.

‘He’s eating a lamb shank’: Joel Dommett almost MISSED baby’s birth because of lavish feast

OHMYGOSSIP — Joel Dommett almost missed the birth of his son because he was too busy eating.
The ‘Masked Singer’ presenter and his wife Hannah Cooper welcomed their first child Wilde into the world last September and because the 38-year-old star was determined to get his “money’s worth” from the private hospital where the tot was delivered, he made sure to make the most of its lavish food offerings while his spouse was going through a lengthy labour.
Speaking to Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett on the ‘Dish’ podcast, he said: “We were in this lucky scenario where we did it privately – by that I mean medically, not alone. All you need to know about the story is, is I’m unbelievably tight, like I really… this is the most money I’ve ever spent on anything in my life.
“There was this point about eight hours in, this lady came in with a piece of paper and I said, ‘Oh, hello what’s that?’ And she said, ‘Oh, it’s a menu.’ And I said, ‘Is it included?’ And she said, ‘Yes, of course it’s included,’ and I was like, oh my God, amazing. And I then went across the menu and tried to sort of order what I thought looked to be the most expensive. As much as I could for money, and I pick what I thought my wife wanted at that point.
“About twelve hours in, we’re then in the throes of it. It’s happening. The gown is off, the contractions are happening quickly, there’s urine on the floor, it’s all going on I’m just trying my best, you know.
“That’s the point where the duck with a red wine jus arrives. And, immediately the room smells so much and my wife’s like, ‘What’s that smell?’ And I have to say, ‘It’s duck with a red wine jus.’ I’m trying to eat this duck with a red wine jus as quickly as possible because I’m not going to get rid of it. And she’s like, ‘What did you get for me?’ And I say, ‘A ham sandwich.’ I got her a ham sandwich. And I give her the ham sandwich, I eat the duck with red wine jus, and then the birth ended up being very long.
“We got to about thirty hours in. Too long! I’m like, I’ve got to go back for the ‘Friends’ rerun. And she has an epidural and she has a little sleep, and they said, after you’ve had your sleep, you’re gonna push and your baby’s gonna be born.
“While she was having a sleep, I thought this is a perfect time for another meal. And so I didn’t make the same mistake as before I left the room.
“What I didn’t know was that whilst I was out of the room, she woke up and they said, ‘Oh, it’s time to push, it’s time to birth your baby.’ So she starts pushing and delivering the baby and then suddenly sort of like, ‘Where’s my husband? Where’s my husband?’
“One nurse goes, ‘I don’t know,’ and another nurse goes, ‘He’s next door having a lamb shank.’ ”
Joel made it for the birth and is enjoying being a parent, a journey he described as “mental” and “insane”.
He gushed about his little boy: “He’s crawling around now. He’s got to this point where he’s started laughing, so my life is now consumed, as a comedian obviously I’m desperate to make him laugh.”

Anya Taylor-Joy ‘thrilled’ with Furiosa action

OHMYGOSSIP — Anya Taylor-Joy was “thrilled” with her action scenes in ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’.
The 28-year-old star plays the titular character in George Miller’s prequel to ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ and she spent a large time shooting a 197-shot chase sequence in which she had run, jump and hang, and she relished being “pushed” because of the director’s attention to detail.
She told Deadline: “To be fair, I think it’s truthful to the character and I did get into this experience to be pushed. So, I think there’s an element that thrilled me.
“What so impressed me about working with George is that these units are running at the same time and yet nothing is approved without George’s complete fingerprints over all of it.
“I did a lot of work on second unit, on stowaway and it’s exceptional that the level of just how meticulous he is: You could do 20 takes of something and then George will see it and say, ‘Oh, it’s perfect, but I need your helmet one inch higher on your head! It’s that level of detail.”
Anya found the “arduous” shoot could be quite isolating.
She said: “By nature, of how arduous the shooting schedule was, I was very often alone and she’s a character that’s very much in her head and she’s very, very quiet, so it felt everything around me that pushed that sense of isolation.”
The ‘Queen’s Gambit’ star knew she needed to “experience” all the emotions her character felt in the movie.
she said: “All characters come to me in a different way.
“Sometimes I feel like ‘Oh, I just experienced something, I can tell the story with a bit of hindsight. I’m still going to feel it, but I’ll have a bit more space in between the character’s emotions and my own.
“With this from the second that I read the script, this is going to be real time, I’m going to have to experience these emotions and that’s the truth that will come out on the real screen.”

Anthony Hopkins to star in first Hollywood movie to be filmed in Antarctica

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Anthony Hopkins is set to star in ‘The Notebook’ director Nick Cassavetes’ upcoming flick, ‘Bruno Penguin And The Staten Island Princess’.
The Oscar winner, 86, has been cast as iconic art agent Ben Windsor in the first Hollywood motion picture to shoot in Antarctica, Deadline reports.
The outlet claims Shia LaBeouf, 37, is also in talks for an undisclosed role in the flick.
The script comes from Daniel Barnz and Ned Zeman and is “based on a Vanity Fair article from the latter which tells the true story of adventurous Swiss photographer Bruno Zehnder, a superb artist who spent the last 20 years of his life in Antarctica photographing Emperor penguins. He was obsessed by them – their kindness, the way they lived, their deep levels of affection for one another. Bruno spent his life trying to learn how to communicate with them and over time, the colonies grew to know him and return his fondness. He became so obsessed that he legally changed his name to Bruno Penguin and found great success, both creatively and financially with his photographs.
“Bruno was also involved in an incredible, decades-long romance, mainly long distance, as she did not share his desire to live in the barren cold. He put his romance off for years – always in Antarctica, always chasing penguins. And ultimately, just before moving back home, he got caught in a giant Arctic whiteout and froze to death.
“Before his passing in 1997, his frequent sojourns in Antarctica resulted in photographs that won several awards, including the United Nations Environmental Protection Prize and the British Broadcasting System’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year award. He was also elected a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society in London.”
Rick Dugdale, who is co-producing with Dan Petrie, Jr, under the Enderby Entertainment, said: “Antarctica is one of the most breathtaking and challenging places to film in the world.
“We need to take an audience to Antarctica to tell this story – so we chose to do it for real. This movie combines incredible cinematography, the extraordinary story of Bruno Zehnder’s unwavering passion for Emperor penguins, and the enduring romance that shaped his life.”
Cassavetes added: “This movie has so much special meaning for me on many levels. What it means to be an artist, how to balance that life with time spent with loved ones. It explores the importance of adventure, the unbelievable wonder of nature, and the testing of the body’s very limits. And as always, love. Romantic love, brotherly love, the love of things beautiful and interesting, and how money pales in comparison. This movie asks the questions, What’s important to you? Really important? And how much can you love?”
Production is poised to start in November.

The film is set to head into production later this summer with Rocket Science, Oakhurst Entertainment, Astral Future and Dreamtime Films handling global distribution at the Cannes Film Festival.

Kirsten Dunst and Daniel Bruhl starring in The Entertainment System Is Down

OHMYGOSSIP — Kirsten Dunst and Daniel Bruhl are to star in ‘The Entertainment System Is Down’.
The pair have joined Keanu Reeves in the cast of the movie from the acclaimed director Ruben Ostlund.
The picture is set on a long-haul flight where the entertainment system fails and the passengers have to face the horror of being bored. More stars are being lined up to join the cast of the film, which is due to begin shooting early next year.
Ostlund is thought to have purchased a retired Boeing 747 for the movie and the plane is set to be used full-scale for the shoot in a studio.
The ‘Triangle of Sadness’ director has been inspired by a social psychological study at Virginia University called ‘The Challenge of the Disengaged Mind’ – which revealed that participants did not enjoy spending up to 15 minutes in a room with nothing to do but think.
In a twist, those involved were able to give themselves a harmless but painful electric shock at the touch of the button – with one man finding the solitude so difficult that he shocked himself 190 times during the 15-minute period.
Kirsten recently starred in Alex Garland’s dystopian movie ‘Civil War’ and is unsurprised that the subject matter of a second Civil War in the USA caused a stir with audiences.
The 42-year-old star told Variety magazine: “This movie, after you see it, you want to talk about it for a while with people. And I think any movie that does that is incredible.
“The whole movie is open to interpretation. For me, there were things I just accepted that were unexplained. It allows the audience to fill in their own feelings about what they’re watching.”

‘Emmerdale’ to mark 10,000th episode with tree maintenance scheme

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Emmerdale’ is gearing up to air its 10,000th episode.
The popular Yorkshire-based ITV soap will broadcast the landmark show next Wednesday (22.05.24), and its cast have posed for a group snap in the village where it is shot to mark the occasion – which will also be toasted with the series’ actors helping with maintenance of 10,000 trees in the community.
‘Emmerdale’ was originally commissioned for only 26 episodes but has become a stalwart of ITV’s nightly schedule and globally successful.
It is currently airing 6 episodes of drama each week on ITV and ITVX and screening in seven territories worldwide – Australia, New Zealand, Eire, Canada, Sweden, Finland and the US.
ITV said: “To celebrate the 10,000 episode milestone ‘Emmerdale’ has decided to thank the local community for its endless support by helping with the maintenance of 10,000 trees.”
The series’ head of production Nader Mabadi added: “Our Studios and Village are a large part of the community, helping us beam the beautiful Yorkshire Dales to countries across the world, and all of us on the team are grateful to the Leeds and the wider Yorkshire communities for their continued support over the last 52 years of filming Emmerdale in the region.
“With this in mind we thought a great way to celebrate our 10,000 milestone would be to pay that support forward, by making a sustainable contribution to the local environment in helping with the woodland project near to our village. “The University of Leeds Gair Wood project aims to build up an ecological corridor, taking carbon from the atmosphere and improving the biodiversity of the countryside, so this summer the Emmerdale Production team are swapping the Woolpack for the woodland and under the guidance of Dr Cat Scott and Dr Thomas Sloan from the University of Leeds, we will be helping with the maintenance of 10,000 young trees on site, ensuring the beauty of our part of the world is retained for generations to come.
“The woodland project is one of many ways we engage with sustainability. Working with organisations like BAFTA Albert (wearealbert.org), our transition to a net-zero production is incredibly important to us at Emmerdale. Whether it’s behind the scenes or in the onscreen daily lives of our characters, we feel a responsibility to show and talk about these things.”
John Whiston, managing director of continuing drama and head of ITV in the North, said: “Very few TV programmes in the world have made it to 10,000 eps. Even fewer dramas have managed to get that far.
“And for a drama to do it in such style is vanishingly rare. ‘Emmerdale’ today feels full of excitement, full of mischief, full of fun and full of life. Long may it continue to prosper and thrive.”
‘Emmerdale’ consistently pulls in millions of viewers each episode, with ITV saying the show “remains at the heart of UK culture”.

‘Real-life Martha’ from Netflix’s ‘Baby Reindeer’ in talks with top lawyer to sue streamer over the show

OHMYGOSSIP — The “real-life Martha” from Netflix’s ‘Baby Reindeer’ is in talks with a leading lawyer to sue the streamer over the show.
Scottish lawyer Fiona Harvey says the popular series – billed as a “true story”, and which provides a brutally honest account of 34-year-old comedian Richard Gadd’s experience with an alleged stalker known as Martha – paints an “obscene” and “defamatory” account of her character.
Chris Daw QC, who has acted for footballer Ryan Giggs, 50, told the Daily Mirror Netflix could now have a “big” legal problem if it is found she has never been to prison.
He added: “Netflix has sold ‘Baby Reindeer’ as a ‘true story’… ‘Martha’ was portrayed as a convicted stalker, who was sent to prison for serious crimes. She states that she has never been convicted of any crime and has never been to prison. If that turns out to be true, Netflix and Richard Gadd will have a very big legal problem.”
‘Baby Reindeer’ tells a dramatised version of the life of comic Richard being relentlessly pursued by an unhinged stalker called Martha Scott in the show, who is played by actress Jessica Gunning, 38.
Fiona recently told Piers Morgan, 59, during an interview on his ‘Uncensored’ she has been targeted with death threats since the series became one of Netflix’s biggest hits.
She added: “I find it quite obscene. I find it horrifying, misogynistic.
“Some of the death threats have been really terrible online. People phoning me up. You know, it’s been horrendous.”
Fiona added Netflix did not contact her before ‘Baby Reindeer’ was first aired worldwide in April, and added it raised duty-of-care questions.
She also said she had been “forced” into telling her side of the story after the series shot to popularity, branding it a work of “hyperbole” “fiction”.
Internet sleuths identified Fiona within days of the series starting, and Netflix has stood by ‘Baby Reindeer’, stating it was a “true story” and that it took “every reasonable precaution in disguising the real-life identities of the people involve”.
Fiona added she had never been charged or received a jail sentence for stalking, as depicted in the final episode of ‘Baby Reindeer’, and denied sending stand-up Richard around 41,000 emails or contacted his parents and never heckled the comic at his stand-up gigs.
She also denied assaulting Richard’s former girlfriend and said she did not sexually assault him on a canal path.
Piers has stated Netflix could have a “problem” if it turns out she has not been to prison due to its “true story” claim that starts the show.
‘Baby Reindeer’ soon racked up nearly 54 million views since its April debut and has been Netflix’s top English-language series for three weeks in a row.

‘Super Gran’ star Gudrun Ure dead aged 98

OHMYGOSSIP — Gudrun Ure has died aged 98.
The ‘Casualty’ actress was best-known for her starring role in the 1980’s children’s TV series ‘Super Gran’, in which she played the title character who protected the residents of Chiselton from a series of evil villains after gaining superpowers once she had been struck by a magic ray.
Her niece Kate McNeill confirmed Gudrun has passed away at her London home.
Reflecting on her “really kind” aunt, Kate told the BBC: “She had a very memorable voice.
“I remember my husband was watching ‘Casualty’ one night, and I went, ‘that’s Gudrun’ as soon as I heard the voice.”
Gudrun was cast in the beloved ITV programme, which ran from 1985 to 1987, aged 59, and the show’s low budget meant she had to perform her own stunts.
For her work on ‘Super Gran’, the actress won an International Emmy award in the Children and Young People category in 1985.
Gudrun, who appeared in the programme alongside comic Sir Billy Connolly, 81, also featured a series of celebrity cameos across the show’s 27 episodes, including from late footballer George Best, comedian Spike Milligan, ex-‘Doctor Who’ actor Patrick Troughton, darts champion Eric Bristow and shot put icon Geoff Capes.
The programme, based on a series of books written by Forest Wilson, proved to be hugely popular and was sold abroad to roughly 60 countries.
As well as ‘Super Gran’, Gudrun appeared in several radio plays and TV shows including ‘Midsomer Murders’, ‘Where The Heart Is’ and ‘The Crow Road’.
She also starred opposite Orson Welles in a stage version of Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’, which was directed by the Hollywood legend himself in 1951.
Gudrun was married to her husband John Ramsay for more than 40 years before his death in 2008.
The couple had a stepson, Gordon.

Martin will also star alongside ‘No Return’ actor Louis Ashbourne Serkis, 19, who is set to play his teen son Johnny.
In an effort to protect his son from becoming engulfed by sinister forces, Nathan will go toe-to-toe with the gangs and embark on a personal journey that will push him even further out of his comfort zone.
ITV’s Head of Drama Polly Hill added: “‘Out There’ is a brilliantly compelling drama, from the team behind ‘Manhunt’, where county lines become very real for a father and son already dealing with the modern challenges of running a farm.
“Martin Clunes is wonderful as Nathan, in a drama full of surprises, as he tries to navigate the best way to save his son, in a world he doesn’t understand.”
Ed Whitmore said he wanted to capture the “vicious and ruthless” world of drug dealing through the show.
He explained: “County lines is a particularly vicious and ruthless wave of drug dealing that uses fear and violence to coerce, often vulnerable, young people into working as runners and dealers. It has become a serious and rapidly increasing problem across the whole of the UK, so it felt like an important and timely story to tell.
“I’ve always been fascinated by the notion of things being hidden in plain sight and the way in which different social worlds can co-exist cheek-by-jowl until, one day, they collide.
“The fundamental premise of ‘Out There’ – a widowed farmer who discovers that his son has fallen foul of county lines – immediately spoke to me as a story I wanted to tell.”

‘It was very helpful’: Marisa Abela praises female involvement on Back to Black

OHMYGOSSIP — Marisa Abela felt it was essential for women to have the main roles behind the camera on ‘Back to Black’.
The 27-year-old star plays the tragic singer Amy Winehouse in Sam Taylor-Johnson’s biopic and thinks that the female involvement was important for the sake of a balanced depiction of the ‘Love Is a Losing Game’ artist.
Marisa told IndieWire: “I think that it was very helpful that almost every single head of department on our film is a woman. You have a female director, a female DoP, female costume, female hair and makeup, female set designers.
“It was crazy. And what that meant was I didn’t feel protective over Amy and (have to deal with) having a male director say to me, ‘She’s just fawning over (Blake Fielder-Civil, her ex-husband).”
She continued: “I feel I would have to protect Amy from his view of her. But it was just a room full of women. There was so much protection around Amy as a woman in the space.
“You felt that you could play the reality of that scene rather than trying to modernise it to save her legacy. You just played it for what it was.”
Marisa hailed Taylor-Johnson for giving her the chance to delve into the task of becoming Winehouse on the big screen.
She said: “The thing that was most important to me was this indescribable intensity and power and magic that (Amy) had. And if I could get somewhere close to what that was and what that felt like and where that came from, then that would be a film that was worth making about someone that we already know really well.
“And it just so happened that Sam felt the same way, that that was the most important thing about telling the story.”
