Next series of ‘I’m A Celeb’ will ‘avoid casting politicians to stop clash with general election’

OHMYGOSSIP — Bosses of ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ are reportedly going to avoid casting politicians in the next series as it could clash with a general election.
The ITV show previously featured shamed secretary of state for health Matt Hancock, 45, and ex-UKIP leader Nigel Farage, 60, but the broadcaster has apparently now been warned by TV watchdog Ofcom the show can’t include any politicians because the regulator fears doing so could impact voters.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “It was already highly doubtful that another political type would be cast for ‘I’m a Celeb’ after the backlash last time, particularly to Farage but also the kickback to Hancock.
“They also change up the playbook every year to keep things fresh.
“The timings of the general election are just too much of a headache and it was the final straw.
“Of course, casting is in its early stages and never say never, but they are extremely unlikely to go down that road.”
In February, it was reported ITV bosses were considering banning politicians from ‘IAC’ as hosts Ant McPartlin, 48, and Declan Donnelly, 48, had grown tired of them.
An industry insider told the Daily Mirror: “In the past it’s been really interesting to see which politicians are willing to join the show, with some even serving MPs.
“But this year, with an election looming, it doesn’t feel like the right moment for that.
“Coming on top of Farage not helping to pull in the punters last year, and Ant and Dec making it clear they want a change, this year it’s a case of avoid, avoid, avoid.
“It’s time for something different so it’s fair to say no one is seeking any controversial figures from the world of politics at this stage.”
When Ant and Dec were asked on Instagram if prime minister Rishi Sunak could appear on ‘IAC’, Dec said: “I think we do a year without any politicians’, while Ant added: “Agreed, agreed, agreed.”

Al Pacino to star as mafia boss in Captivated

OHMYGOSSIP — Al Pacino is to play a mafia boss in the new thriller ‘Captivated’.
The 84-year-old actor is to feature alongside Katie Holmes and Toby Kebbell in the film that is billed as a new take on the infamous kidnapping of John Paul Getty III in 1973.
The picture centres on Calabrian mafia boss Saro (played by Kebbell and Pacino at different stages of his life) who kidnaps the grandson of one of the richest men in the world, Jean Paul Getty, and puts his organisation in danger when he develops romantic feelings for his victim’s mother (Holmes) during the ransom negotiations.
Michael Benaroya, Michael Mammoliti and Manasvi Mamgai are producing the movie for 32RED Entertainment and it is being launched for sales in Cannes by International Film Trust.
Mammoliti is the nephew of one of the main kidnappers Saro Mammoliti and has spent years working on the project – even taking issue with the plot of the 2017 movie ‘All The Money In The World’ which tackled the same subject.
The events of the kidnapping have been disputed for decades but Mammoliti recalls how his uncle had feelings towards his victim’s mother Abigail Harris and is exploring it for the first time in the film.
Dito Montiel is directing the flick from a script he wrote with Mammoliti and Robin Shushan with principal photography due to begin later this year in Italy.
Mammoliti said: “Our goal is to give a voice to a person who’s had none for 50+ years, and tell a side of this story no one knows.”
Benaroya added: “‘Captivated’ has all the ingredients of a great film, a fantastic script, stellar cast, and visionary director. We couldn’t be more excited to have it on our slate.”

Daisy Ridley completed rigorous training for Young Woman and the Sea

OHMYGOSSIP — Daisy Ridley underwent a gruelling training regime for ‘Young Woman and the Sea’.
The 32-year-old star plays the lead role in the biopic about Gertrude Ederle, an American swimmer who became the first woman to swim across the English channel in 1926, and spent months completing intense training in the Black Sea for the film.
Daisy told Deadline at the movie’s premiere: “I was really alone in the Black Sea, and I was really trying to keep pace with the camera.
“And then I was trying to keep pace with the boat and the camera boat. I trained for three months and then we were training during filming.”
The ‘Star Wars’ actress added: “And then we did the big swim at the end. So it was nine days in the Black Sea. It was overwhelming. It was cold. Each time, it was scary.”
Daisy explained that she realised that all her hard work had paid off when she got to witness the finished movie.
She said: “You can see that it’s the open water. You can see that I’m there, and it adds to the majesty of the story. And also, it’s just a tiny part of what Trudy did, which is crazy.”
Director Joachim Ronning paid tribute to Ridley’s commitment to her portrayal of Ederle.
He said: “Nothing could really prepare her for what we did week after week out in the open ocean, sixty degrees water, her lips blue. (She) never complained and always going for it, always getting it, channelling Trudy… And I hope the audience can feel that.”
The Norwegian filmmaker continued: “It was very important to me to shoot it on real water. I wanted to be in the elements and tell this story. I didn’t want to be in a tank with a blue screen or green screen.”

Alison Steadman admits getting ‘Gavin and Stacey’ cast together is ‘very difficult’

OHMYGOSSIP — Alison Steadman has admitted getting all the cast of ‘Gavin and Stacey’ together is “very difficult”.
The 77-year-old actress was last seen as Pamela ‘Pam’ Shipman in the beloved BBC comedy in its 2019 Christmas special, and is expecting to make a return for the upcoming festive one-off later this year.
While she’s looking forward to reuniting with her fellow cast members – which includes 45-year-old Mathew Horne, Joanna Page, 47, and 76-year-old Larry Lamb – the actress conceded making the show could be hard because of their busy schedules.
She told the Daily Mirror: “They are extremely busy people. Finding the time to put another show together is very difficult.
“These things take months and months. You develop it,
you change it, and then you have another idea and so on. It’s quite a long process. And then you’ve got to get the actors free.”
‘Abigail’s Party’ actress Alison added “none of” the ‘Gavin and Stacey’ cast “have seen the script” yet.
And she added they “only found out [another episode was in the works] for definite the other day”.
Alison then gushed the sitcom – written by James Corden, 45, and 57-year-old Ruth Jones – was “wonderful”, and said the cast tries to stay in touch with one another.

She went on: “It’s a wonderful series. It’s so nice that it’s so popular. I feel very privileged and very lucky to have been given that chance.
“We have a group, so if we do want to send a message out, we can. It’s nice.”
The upcoming ‘Gavin and Stacey’ Christmas special was announced by James and Ruth earlier this month.
James made the announcement on Instagram by posting a picture of himself with Ruth holding up the script for ‘Gavin and Stacey: The Finale’.
He captioned the photo: “It’s official! We have finished writing the last ever episode of ‘Gavin and Stacey’.
“See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James.”

Heston Blumenthal diagnosed as bipolar

OHMYGOSSIP — Heston Blumenthal has been diagnosed as bipolar.
The celebrity chef, 57, whose TV shows range from ‘Crazy Delicious’ to ‘Masterchef Australia’ revealed his disorder as he called for a change in attitudes to neurodiversity in workplaces.
Heston, married to 36-year-old entrepreneur Melanie Ceysson – told the Metro: “My most artistic, innovative and exciting work is because I am neurodivergent, which I describe as my superpower.
“The world needs to move on from outdated and archaic misinterpretations of perceived difference, and embrace the opportunities neurodiversity presents.”
Heston said he was diagnosed as bipolar in recent months, after previously receiving a positive assessment in 2017 for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
He runs restaurants including the three Michelin-star Fat Duck, two Michelin-star Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Michelin-starred Hind’s Head, and the Perfectionists’ Café, and is now campaigning for more to be done to welcome neurodivergent individuals in the workplace, who he says are “woefully underrepresented” in employment.
He added: “These are individuals who may have exceptional skills and unparalleled abilities yet because of traditional ways of working, we are missing out on the brilliance they can bring to UK business.
“I hope that being open about my own mental health will raise awareness of the issue and I want to campaign to highlight the contribution neurodiversity can make to the workplace.”
Heston has commissioned research that found more than one in 10 people (11%) surveyed have been officially diagnosed as neurodivergent.
Around 21% of these were neither in full nor part-time paid employment, and his study found 47% of UK adults with a neurodiverse condition believe this has made it harder to find a job.

Vinnie Jones ‘to open up about new romance in second series of In the Country’

OHMYGOSSIP — Vinnie Jones will reportedly open up about his new romance in a second series of his ‘In the Country’ series.
The 59-year-old former footballer-turned actor – who is enjoying the huge success of Netflix gangster show ‘The Gentlemen’ in which he plays a groundskeeper – has been dating his personal assistant Emma Ford, 47, five years after his childhood sweetheart wife Tanya died from cancer aged 53.
A TV insider told The Sun about how the romance will feature in the latest instalment of his Discovery+ show – which shows his life in rural Sussex: “‘In the Country’ was a sensation when it first aired, because it showed a very different side to Vinnie, who most people think of as a hardman on the pitch and the movie screen.
“In fact, images of him being at one with nature and tackling important issues, including men’s mental health, helped make it one of Discovery’s biggest shows.
“So it’s not a shock to learn it’s coming back.”
The source went on: “More of a surprise is the fact Vinnie and Emma’s relationship will be seen on screen for the first time. They actually fell in love during the creation of the first series, and eagle-eyed viewers will have spotted the signs that they were growing closer.
“But Vinnie is very conscious of the sensitivities surrounding his new relationship.
“The loss of beloved Tanya still feels raw to her friends and family.
“The last thing he would want to do is upset anyone, but he also wants to be honest and open.”
The Sun reported the new series of Vinnie’s show is “yet to be officially given the go-ahead”, but said filming is expected to start next month.
Vinnie was married to Tanya for 25 years before her death in July 2019, and three years later the ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’ actor
moved to his 2,000-acre country estate.
His ‘In the Country’ show started in 2023 and saw him tackle transforming a series of dilapidated buildings on its grounds.
Vinnie fell for former model Emma while shooting the show and the pair were spotted in April on holiday together in California.

Jeremy Renner kept falling asleep after returning to TV work

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Renner kept falling asleep when he returned to shoot the ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ after his near-fatal snowplough accident.
‘The Hurt Locker’ actor, 53, suffered 38 shattered bones and severe chest trauma including a collapsed lung in January 2023 when he was run over by his snowcat machine, and has now opened up about the hardships he faced getting back to work on the Paramount+ show this January.
Jeremy, who plays power broker Mike McLusky in a fictional Michigan city, told the LA Times how he nodded off when he returned to the set to make its third series.
He said: “They go, ‘And action!’ And I was out. We realised they worked me too hard, too many hours, too many days in a row.
“What I’m willing to do is everything, but what I’m able to do is a different thing.”
Jeremy added producers accommodated him by modifying filming schedules, because jet lag is now exceedingly hard on his body.
Instead of flying back and forth to California, the actor stayed in Pittsburgh throughout most of the shooting process.
He added: “They have to treat me like I’m a child actor. The Mayor of Kingstown is now like a 14-year-old.”
Despite suffering other huge traumas as a result of his accident a year ago – including an eye that bulged out of his skull – Jeremy insisted it sparked unexpected benefits.
He says he now has a photographic memory, which he uses to remember his lines.
Jeremy said: “The eyeball that came out of my head? I have better vision in that eye than the other eye.
“I think I’m getting bionic.”
Jeremy posted regular updates for fans from his hospital bed as he recovered from his horror accident that showed his gruelling recovery, which included intensive physiotherapy.
‘Mayor of Kingstown’ season three is set for release on 2 June.

Emily Atack jokes she feels like she’s been pregnant for nearly 316 years

OHMYGOSSIP — Emily Atack has joked she feels like she’s been pregnant for nearly 316 years.
The 34-year-old heavily pregnant actress – who is expecting her and her nuclear scientist boyfriend Dr Alistair Grant’s first child – showed off her massive baby bump while at a party with friends in a series of images she posted to her Instagram page.
She jokingly captioned the set, taken at a friend’s party: “3,789 months pregnant.”
It’s been reported she was due to give birth in April.
Emily also included an image in her set of photos posted over the weekend showing her wearing a blue sash with the bakery chain Greggs’ logo on it along with the word ‘Preggs’.
Earlier this month the actress captioned another of her baby bump snaps:
“Like a hen sitting on an egg.”
The party where Emily shared her latest baby bump picture was packed with her family and friends.
She stuck to soft drinks, but posed beside a huge drinks display.
One of her friends at the bash posted the shot of the actress wearing her Greggs-style sash on Instagram and captioned it: “@emilyatack making the Preggs sash look FIT.”
Emily’s mum, comedian Kate Robbins, 65, and her sister Martha Atack, joined the party.
Kate shared a snap with her daughter, which she captioned: “When we got together to celebrate an imminent birth.”
A video online showed Martha dancing in the kitchen with a pal while Emily could be seen in the background chatting to friends.
Emily attended this month’s TV BAFTA awards but made an early exit – and
was helped into her car by medics as she left the ceremony.

Baby Reindeer’s Richard Gadd reveals what he won’t ‘ever comment’ on again

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Gadd has insisted he won’t “comment” on the real-life identities of the characters in his hit show ‘Baby Reindeer’ “ever again”.
The 35-year-old actor plays a struggling comedian and barman named Donny, who is stalked by a woman he meets at work called Martha, which reflects Richard’s real-life stalking ordeal.
Following the broadcast of the Netflix show, internet sleuths have tried to discover the real-life identities of the characters, but Richard has insisted he “would’ve made it a documentary” if he had wanted them to be found.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: “I don’t agree with the sleuth thing.
“I’ve put out a statement publicly saying I want the show to be received as a piece of art, and I want the show to people to enjoy as a piece of art. I’m called Donny Dunn.
“It exists in a sort of fictional realm, even though it’s based on truth, it exists in a fictional realm, let’s enjoy the world that I’ve created.
“If I wanted the real life people to be found, I would’ve made it a documentary.
“I’ve spoken publicly about how I don’t want people to do it and if I start playing a game of whack-a-mole, then I’m almost adding to it. I don’t think I’ll ever comment on it ever again.”
Richard insisted he cannot comment on internet speculation surrounding the real-life identities of the show’s characters.
He added: “I can’t confirm or deny anything relating to the real-life people who the characters are based on in the show.
“I know for every single part, there’s been about five or six people who have been sort of named as each part, even all the way down to the pub manager.
“The internet’s always going to do its thing. I can’t really comment on that.
“There was a video the other day of someone had sent me of someone claiming to be Teri. I’d never met them before in my life.
“The internet just does this thing and I just have to let it do its thing. And that’s that.”
Richard recently took to Instagram to plead with fans of the programme to stop trying to find the real-life identities of the ‘Baby Reindeer’ characters.
He wrote: “People I love, have worked with, and admire (including Sean Foley) are unfairly getting caught up in speculation.
“Please don’t speculate on who any of the real life people could be. That’s not the point of our show.”
Scottish lawyer Fiona Harvey was uncovered as the “real-life Martha” from the show – which is billed as a “true story” – and she has now threatened to sue the streamer.
Speaking on ‘Piers Morgan Uncensored’, she said: “I find it quite obscene. I find it horrifying, misogynistic.
“Some of the death threats have been really terrible online. People phoning me up. You know, it’s been absolutely horrendous.”
Netflix has stood by ‘Baby Reindeer’, stating it was a “true story” and that it took “every reasonable precaution in disguising the real-life identities of the people involved”.

Ricky Hatton gushes over blossoming relationship with Claire Sweeney

OHMYGOSSIP — Ricky Hatton has gushed over Claire Sweeney, as the couple’s relationship continues to blossom.
The 45-year-old former boxer met the ex-‘Brookside’ actress, 53, during the 2024 series of ‘Dancing on Ice’, and the pair soon became romantically linked.
After the couple returned from a getaway to Tenerife earlier this month, Ricky has told how he and Claire get on “like a house on fire”.
When asked how their holiday was, the TV star told The Sun newspaper: “It was great! Claire is like me, I’ve met someone who I get on with like a house on fire.
“She is just like me. We spend our whole time laughing together. Claire is just like me – she’s so down to earth.
“She would never turn a picture down with a fan and she’s always got time for people. That’s what I really like about her.
“We’ve just been having good fun.”
After finishing their stint on ‘Dancing on Ice’, the couple were spotted embracing in April, before enjoying a romantic date at a pub in Heaton Moor, Stockport.
An insider revealed the pair “have become really close” and said the ‘Coronation Street’ star was planning to introduce Ricky to her family, including her nine-year-old son Jaxon, who she shares with her ex-partner Daniel Reilly.
A source told MailOnline: “Claire and Ricky have become really close. She wasn’t looking for a relationship but then Ricky came along and it just felt right and natural and she’s really happy.
“She signed up for a reality TV show and met a great guy so it feels a bit like winning the lottery, and she’s really counting her blessings as it all came from nowhere and often that’s the best way.
“She’s now really looking forward to introducing Ricky to her family and friends soon and they are really looking forward to the guy who has put a smile on Claire’s face.”

Andrew Garfield to star with Julia Roberts in thriller After the Hunt

OHMYGOSSIP — Andrew Garfield has been cast in ‘After the Hunt’.
The 40-year-old star is set to appear alongside Julia Roberts in the picture that is being directed by Luca Guadagnino and will be released next year.
The movie is an intense thriller about a college professor who finds herself in a personal and professional quandary when a star pupil makes an allegation towards one of her colleagues as it threatens to expose a dark secret from her past.
Guadagnino is directing from a screenplay written by Nora Garrett and is also producing for his Frenesy company with Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum.
The movie is due to begin production this summer.
Andrew has previously played the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in four movies and explained how studio chiefs made the right decision by keeping his return in the 2021 film ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ a secret.
He told the Happy Sad Confused podcast: “There was not a big conversation about any of it. I would text Amy (Pascal, Spider-Man producer) and be like, ‘Have you seen this?’
“She’d be like, ‘Oh my God! What?’ I’m like, ‘So, cat’s out of the bag, right?’ But then. ultimately, it was we just told the lie, and we kind of keep going. I think it was the right thing to do.”
The ‘Tick, Tick… Boom!’ star repeatedly denied that he was going to be appearing in the movie and admits that “self-preservation” meant that he kept up the lie about his role.
Andrew explained: “Even if the majority were like, ‘We’re pretty sure this is going to happen,’ I think even when you’re pretty sure something is going to happen psychologically, and you want it to happen, when it comes to the moment where you’re about to find out if it’s going to happen or not, suddenly a weird self-preservation thing comes in where you start to live with the idea of it not happening.”

Edgar Wright set to direct Barbarella remake

OHMYGOSSIP — Edgar Wright is in talks to direct the ‘Barbarella’ remake.
The 50-year-old filmmaker is set to helm the new take on the 1968 cult classic that will star Sydney Sweeney in the title role – a part that was played by Jane Fonda in the original flick.
Edgar, whose previous movies include ‘Shaun of the Dead’ and ‘Last Night in Soho’, has been interested in the picture for some time and held a meeting with Sydney after it was first announced in 2022. However, he was only committed to working on the project if he was able to get behind the camera.
Jane Goldman and her daughter Honey Ross are also in negotiations to pen the script – with the former writing for successful franchises including ‘X-Men’ and the ‘Kingsman’ spy series.
Little is known about the new movie, but the original film was directed by Roger Vadim and followed an astronaut from the 41st century who had to stop an evil scientist named Durand Durand.
Jane previously confessed that she was “worried” about the remake as she is uncertain as to how the film will turn out.
The 86-year-old actress told The Hollywood Reporter: “I try not to. Because I worry about what it’s going to be.
“I had an idea of how to do it that [original producer] Dino De Laurentiis, when he was still alive, wouldn’t listen to.
“But it could have been a truly feminist movie.”
Meanwhile, Sydney brushed off the failure of her superhero flick ‘Madame Web’ earlier this year as it has instead enabled her to build a relationship with Sony.
She told British GQ: “To me, that film was a building block. It’s what allowed me to build a relationship with Sony. Without doing ‘Madame Web’, I wouldn’t have a relationship with the decision-makers over there.
“Everything in my career I do not just for that story, but strategic business decisions. Because I did that, I was able to sell ‘Anyone But You’. I was able to get ‘Barbarella’.”

Rageh Omaar ‘doing really well’ after falling ill live on air, colleague says

OHMYGOSSIP — Rageh Omaar is “doing really well” after he fell ill live on air.
That’s according to 43-year-old ‘Loose Women’ panellist Charlene White, who has reassured concerned viewers her ITV News colleague, 56, is on the mend after he was rushed to hospital once he began to struggle reading a ‘News At Ten’ bulletin last month.
During an interview with The Sun newspaper, he said: “Rageh is doing really well.
“I think when he wants to talk about what happened then he will.
“ITV News is a family, we have been checking up on him daily and continuously in fact to make sure he has the support he needs.”
After Rageh was given medical treatment in hospital, an ITV spokesperson revealed he was “recovering at home with his family” and wished him a “speedy recovery”.
In a statement, they said: “We appreciate viewers of last night’s ‘News At Ten’ were concerned about Rageh Omaar’s wellbeing.
“Following medical treatment at hospital, he is now recovering at home with his family.
“We are wishing Rageh a speedy recovery and look forward to him being back on screen when he feels ready.”

Derek Thompson to lift lid on Casualty exit in bombshell book

OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘Casualty’ star Derek Thompson is to lift the lid on his departure from the show in a new bombshell book.
The 76-year-old actor spent 38 years on the BBC medical drama as nurse Charlie Fairhead, and the star has hinted he will tell all about his time on the programme in an upcoming memoir.
During an appearance on ‘Good Morning Britian’, he was asked by Susanna Reid why he left the show, and he replied: “That’s all rather confused.”
He then added: “It’s confused in that there is a truth and the truth has been rather garnished.”
Derek didn’t wish to explain all on ‘GMB’, but told Susanna that she and everyone else can find out the answer in his book.
He said: “So I can’t answer that question, but I’m creating a memoir of the whole of my career and my early life in Belfast so you’re going to have to buy the book.”
In March, the ‘Casualty’ legend told how bidding farewell to the show after 38 years was a “big emotional” moment.
He told OK! magazine of his exit: “I don’t want to spoil it by saying whether or not he survives, but everything felt heightened when I filmed my last scenes.
“It felt like one of those big emotional moments in your life, like the birth of a child or your wedding.”
Derek – who met his real-life second wife, Dee Sadler, on the show – never imagined becoming the last remaining original member of the cast when he first landed the role.
He said: “No, I never envisaged I’d stay 38 years.
“I originally signed up for three years, but it soon became apparent what a great character he was to play. Medicine and television have both changed a lot since I started. But the basics are still there – the reception area and desk where people roll up is still performing the same function it did on my first day.”
Despite being considered a TV legend, Derek admitted he feels like “a long-distance runner”.
He laughed: “No, I don’t see myself as a legend.
“That’s someone who does something extraordinarily consistently. I see myself as a long-distance runner – one that never gives up and just keeps on going…”

Jeremy Clarkson planning to buy local pub to champion farming

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Clarkson is said to be planning to buy a Cotswolds pub in an effort to champion British farming.
The ‘Clarkson’s Farm’ star, 64, is reportedly interested in buying The Coach and Horses pub, which is situated opposite his Hawkstone Brewery in Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, where he plans to sell local produce.
Gloucestershire County Council member Jon Wareing is quoted by Gloucestershire Live as saying: “As far as Jeremy Clarkson’s intentions with the pub are concerned, I understand he’s passionate about championing British farming and one way to do that is to ensure that a local pub serves locally produced food and drinks in a family atmosphere with affordable pricing.
“I’m totally supportive of measures that support our local farming community, they continue to have a really tough time of things, and we have great local meats, cheeses and other fresh produce that we should be celebrating.”
The Cotswold District Council granted the 18th Century venue – which is owned by The Stonegate Group – a license to sell alcohol from 11 A.M. to 11 P.M. seven days a week, and is permitted to host live music outside until 9 P.M. – though the permit states all windows and doors are to be closed when the music is being played.
Cllr. Wareing insisted the former ‘Top Gear’ star wouldn’t be turning the area into a “party town”, and said Jeremy emphasised he and his team would “mitigate noise impact” as best as they could.
He explained: “They want to work with residents. They want to make sure they understand what they are doing – they don’t want events that big.
“They are looking at measures to mitigate noise impact. Not opening super late. They have been really constructive. Their intention is not to be a party town.
“[Jeremy’s] very much on a mission to promote British farming. Using local produce is a theme of what they want to do – hence the stake in the brewery. And the desire to also open a pub somewhere.”
