Shaun Ryder’s Coronation Street addiction

OHMYGOSSIP — Happy Mondays star Shaun Ryder is addicted to ‘Coronation Street’.
The 61-year-old musician – who previously battled addiction to drugs including crack cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine – has swapped his hedonistic lifestyle for a more sedate one which includes watching the soaps and cycling.
In an interview promoting his new book ‘Happy Mondays And Fridays, And Saturdays, And Sundays’, Shaun told The Sun newspaper: “I wanted to do it [get clean]as I’d got to 40 and my kids were getting older and I didn’t want them to think I’m this f*****-up old dude.
“I used to be addicted to heroin, methamphetamine, crack cocaine — you name it. Now I’m addicted to cycling and ‘Coronation Street’. Have I had any moments of weakness since then? No, I haven’t, really. My youngest girls, who are teenagers now, are at home with us and have never seen me like that. I’ve not tried to hide it, it’s my story, but they don’t recognise that person today. I’m a big believer in the saying that whatever you get through makes you stronger.”
Meanwhile, Shaun previously revealed he has banned booze from his house and will only have a drink if he’s out.
He told the Guardian newspaper: “We don’t have alcohol in the house. Not even at Christmas. When I go out to work, I’ll still have a drink.
“I partied from the age of 13 onwards. It didn’t end until 2002, when I hit 40 and I thought it was about time I grew up. I got off the heroin and everything else and haven’t been there for 20 years.”

Giovanni Pernice in talks for I’m A Celebrity

OHMYGOSSIP — Giovanni Pernice is in talks for ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro – who has reportedly quit the BBC series – is said to be in talks with ITV about entering the jungle.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Giovanni would be perfect for the jungle.
“ITV bosses have wanted him for years and now he is finally free. Everyone is really eager to get him on board – he really would be ideal for those jungle showers.
“They are expected to offer him big money and he’s unlikely to turn it down really.
“He’ll have finished touring and will have those months free now he’s not doing Strictly.
“It’s definitely a very tempting offer and will be surprise if he turns it down.”
Meanwhile, ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter Kate Garraway recently revealed she thinks Giovanni, 33, will be “deeply missed” if he does leave ‘Strictly’.
Speaking to her co-host Rob Rinder on ‘GMB’, she said: “He was great on the show and people love him.”
Kate had appeared on the BBC show in 2007 where she was partnered up with Giovanni’s close friend Anton du Beke.
The broadcaster added she had “loved” watching their TV outings together, such as their new BBC travel programme ‘Anton and Giovanni’s Adventures in Spain’.
She added: “Giovanni and Anton are great friends and I’ve loved watching those shows as well.”
Earlier this week, it was revealed Giovanni’s future on ‘Strictly’ was uncertain after the dancer became jaded with the “scrutiny” he had faced for the allegations made against him about his teaching methods, and wanted to turn his attention to other shows instead.
A friend of the performers told The Sun: “Gio feels the scrutiny on him has become too much, and now is the time to make a fresh start.
“He wants to focus on other TV projects, and feels he’s achieved all he can on Strictly, having won the trophy back in 2021 and reaching the final an unprecedented four times.”
They added: “He remains adamant he’s done nothing wrong other than being a hard taskmaster but knows his style of training isn’t to everyone’s liking — especially in this day and age. He has a lot of other exciting projects in the pipeline right now, and he’s just super-excited to get cracking on them. This, now, is his priority.”

Kaye Adams victim of sexism at beginning of career

OHMYGOSSIP — Kaye Adams says she was the victim of sexism at the beginning of her career.
The 61-year-old journalist – who is best known as a long-serving anchor on ITV’s ‘Loose Women’ – claimed she was propositioned by a boss twice her age and slapped on the bottom by another.
On the proposition, she told the ‘How To Be 60’ podcast: “I can remember ¬standing there with this gin and tonic in my hand thinking, ‘Oh, what am I gonna do?’ And I giggled.'”
And, speaking about being groped and slapped, she said: “I was standing up leaning against a pillar and my boss, who was a bit older – he was the boss boss – came out.
“Everyone was terrified of him, and actually I really liked this man and he was really good to me. But as he walked past me he slapped my a*** and really grabbed my a*** and laughed as he went by.
“I was about 24 and I just remember that rush of embarrassment. My cheeks went red, I didn’t know what to do. A bit of you is conflicted, but you didn’t, you just shut up.
“He laughed and he walked out, and everyone else laughed.”
But Kaye said there was nothing she could do about it at the time.
She said: “And the attitudes… casual sexism all the time, you know, slapping women’s a**** and not even thinking about it, it’s not even an issue whatsoever, which you look at now and you think, ‘Oh, my God’, but then you think, ‘Jesus’.
“The other thing… casual ¬racism and also homophobia.”

Coronation Street’s Lisa George’s blindness fears

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’s Lisa George fears she is going blind after a shock diagnosis.
The actress – who has played Beth Sutherland on the ITV soap for the past 12 years – revealed she’s been diagnosed with the condition NAION – non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy – which causes sudden vision loss in one eye.
Lisa first suffered an eye injury when a piece of rope hit her eye while gardening, leading to her permanently losing part of the sight at the bottom of her right eye.
She told MailOnline: “‘Corrie’ were great, they printed my scripts in a bigger font to make it easier but I just wasn’t getting any explanation as to what had happened. I had scans, dye put into my eyeball, but the doctors were split as to whether it was the trauma from the rope or something else that had caused the haemorrhage at the back of my eye.”
And, a few years later she began to have trouble with her left eye.
She said: “I had a CT scan on my head, two lumber punctures, and they wouldn’t let me take my medication for my Diabetes which was making feel really poorly.
“No-one seemed to have a clue what had happened, they just said ‘you’ve got nerve clusters’ and after a week they sent me home and told me to take Aspirin for the pain.
“Fortunately I was able to go private but there are so many people out there who are still not getting answers. Eventually I ended up at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and was seen by a neuro ophthalmologist.”
And, Lisa fears she will never do stage work again.
She said: “I thought ‘I don’t think I’m ever going to be able to work on the stage again’ because there’s no way I’d be able to see if I had to come off the stage in the dark.
“The panic and fear set in and I got really upset. Obviously, I’m sure they put things in place for visually impaired actors but it was a real fear and it really hit me real hard, how am I going to cope in the industry in the future?”

Lily Gladstone wants to direct one day

OHMYGOSSIP — Lily Gladstone hopes to direct in the future.
The 37-year-old star – who became the first Native American star to be nominated for the Best Actress Oscar for her role in ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ – doesn’t think it is the right time for her to step behind the camera just yet but she’d love to help tell the stories of her community in the future.
Asked if she’s considered writing or directing, she told Empire magazine: “I don’t think I have the focus to do it at this current time of my life, but it is something I’ve been asked about lately.
“One of my aunties told me she can’t wait to see that from me. She said she wants to see my writing and directing and she said, ‘We need our Martin Scorsese too and I think you’ve got what it takes to do that’, which is like… Wow that’s a huge compliment.
“I’m really inspired by working with the community and fostering inspiration. So at some point, yeah that could very well be in my future.”
Lily believes Hollywood has changed in recent years so there are more opportunities for indigenous actors and filmmakers.
She explained: “Of course, having a lead role in a Scorsese film is going to change any actor’s career.
“But it is remarkable hearing one of my favourite Native authors has something in development for a series or a film.
“Or walking into a studio meeting and the studio pitching an action film or a romantic comedy to me without ever saying it’s a Native character or being done about Native Americans. It’s just as an actor.
“So I think lots of us just have more opportunity and there’s more hunger to see stories about our lived experience as indigenous people.
“I’m so excited for whatever version of me – and whatever younger versions of the actors who paved the way.
“I’m excited for that res’ kid who has a dream and thinks, ‘Maybe I can move to LA or New York and there’ll be a place for me.”

Danielle Harold eyes crime drama role

OHMYGOSSIP — Danielle Harold wants to star in a “crime thriller”.
The former ‘EastEnders’ actress left the soap in May last year and, following a stint on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’, she’s now looking for a new acting role and wants to follow in the footsteps of ex-‘Coronation Street’ star Michelle Keegan.
She told the Sunday Mirror newspaper’s No Filter column: “Michelle Keegan in ‘Fool Me Once’ was so amazing.
“I’d love to do a crime thriller.
“I can’t wait to get my head into another character.”
Danielle won a string of awards for her portrayal of Lola, who died from a brain tumour, and she’s finally found a use for her trophies.
She laughed: “You may catch me singing into them doing karaoke in my living room.”
Following her stint on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ last year, Danielle was inundated with messages from men who were keen to woo her with a cup of tea.
She previously explained on the ‘Invite Only’ podcast: “I did have messages about cups of tea. I came out and I was like, ‘What?’
“I had just come out of the jungle, so didn’t really go on my phone too much, I just sort of had a quick look, and saw ‘tea, tea, tea, Yorkshire tea’ and said, ‘What’s with this tea business, Mum?’
“Tony Bellew did a secret mission in the camp and he had to pretend to write a love song to his wife Rachael, and he was going to sing it. I was there embracing the love. But then I just said, ‘I can’t even get someone to get me a cup of tea.’ And then, yeah. I was hoping I’d actually get sent some boxes of tea (by admirers), but that hasn’t happened yet.”

Tina Malone reveals husband took his own life amid PTSD struggle

OHMYGOSSIP — Tina Malone’s husband took his own life.
The ‘Shameless’ actress announced in March that her spouse Paul Chase had passed away aged just 41 and she’s told how he had turned to drugs and alcohol after his mental health plummeted while he battled PTSD from his time in the army.
She told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “I’ve not spoken about this publicly until this minute. It’s the first time I’ve said it and confirmed it. Paul did commit suicide. I believe in transparency.
“I’ll never get over it. I miss him so badly and I love him so much. One thing I know… he’s in a better place than here…
“He felt lost, he felt useless. He couldn’t fight any more. Drugs weren’t recreational. Drink wasn’t social.”
Tina admitted it is only her and Paul’s 10-year-old daughter Flame keeping her afloat in the aftermath of his death.
She said: “If I didn’t have Flame I really wouldn’t want to be here.”
Tina – who also has 42-year-old Danielle from a previous relationship – told how Paul’s mental health struggles spiralled in the last year of his life.
She said: “He’d concealed his PTSD, but imagine if you’ve been at war and you can’t count how many people you killed. How do you come back? He loved the Army but it left him scarred…
“The last 12 months were hell, a rapid downward progression. He was using prescription drugs and cocaine, he borrowed money and he lied. He was desperate.”
They briefly separated but reunited, and Paul was admitted to hospital for psychiatric treatments after earlier attempts to take his own life before being moved to an “under pressure” community facility because of a lack of beds.
Though he received invaluable specialist help, his mood swings still caused rows.
Tina said: “He thought he was a drain on me, he said he was no good for me. It was awful.”
The 61-year-old actress is planning to launch a charity called Paul’s Flame on 28 May, what would have been her husband’s birthday, in order to help other struggling ex-service personnel.
She said: “When he got drunk he’d ramble about the army and I’d tell him, ‘You have depression, you have emotional issues because of what you’ve seen’. But he’d sweep it away. He’d say, ‘How will I get a job if I have that?’ He admitted it in the end but by then things had gone too far.
“This is a man who served his country. The only way I can get through is by fighting for change, addressing the issues facing veterans and soldiers, trying to help others.”

Jeff Daniels feared infamous Dumb and Dumber toilet scene could end his career

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeff Daniels feared ‘Dumb and Dumber’ would “end” his career.
The 69-year-old actor played the hapless Harry opposite Jim Carrey as his pal Lloyd in the 1994 hit comedy, and he’s told how he had reservations about the film’s notorious toilet scene, in which his alter ego has digestive problems and ended up using a loo that didn’t flush properly.
He told USA Today newspaper: “It’s one thing to read the toilet scene, but then the day comes and we’re actually going to do the toilet scene.
“I told Jim, ‘This is either the beginning of my career or the end of it.’”
Jim, who is fearless, told me, ‘It’s going to be great. You’ve just got to go all the way with it.’”
Jim’s pep talk inspired his co-star to give his all with the scene.
He said: “That was a couple hours of porcelain gymnastics. And that close-up when they pop in tight on my red face. I had been doing it so long, I had almost passed out.”
The ‘Terms of Endearment’ star was more known for his dramatic roles at the time and his agents desperately tried to put him off the project.
He said: “I had agents, who weren’t wrong, telling me, ‘You’re a serious actor. This is not the direction you need to be going. We’re going to stop this and get you off this movie.’
“But I wanted to shake it up with a comedy. And I wanted to work with Jim Carrey.”
Jeff knew he had to lean heavily into the more outlandish scenes in ‘Dumb and Dumber’, particularly because the movie studio had wanted to cast a comedian as Harry.
He said: “It was like, I’ve got scenes. I knew I was going to score.
“If [directors Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly] cut those, the movie was going to be ‘Jim and the other guy.’”
Despite his reservations, being in the movie paid off and the toilet scene in particular was often talked about.
Jeff – who reprised the role in 2014’s ‘Dumb and Dumber To’ – said: “I did my job, beyond my job.
“In terms of comedic scenes, that toilet scene will probably outlive us. It will be funny 40 years from now.”
And even legendary actor-and-director Clint Eastwood was a fan.
Recalling how they met at a celebrity golf tournament, the ‘Newsroom’ actor said: “Clint says to me, ‘I just saw ‘Dumb and Dumber’ and you know, the toilet scene? That happened to me.’
“And then he tells a story about dating this woman that he really wanted to impress, but the shellfish hit him the wrong way from lunch.”

Luke Wilson enjoyed lengthy Horizon shoot

OHMYGOSSIP — Luke Wilson “appreciated” taking almost a year to shoot ‘Horizon: An American Saga’.
The 52-year-old actor plays Matthew Van Weyden in Kevin Costner’s two-part Western – which is set to be followed by another four movies – and he enjoyed spending a huge chunk of time making the films because it is so “rare” to work at a slower pace in modern Hollywood.
He told Deadline: “It’s a long shoot. I mean, I was saying that I’d always kind of envied reading about those movies like ‘Apocalypse Now’, where it would last a couple of years where it really became your life.
“Because the way the movie business is now, the first movie I did was 35 days, and that was considered low-budget, but now they’ve got it whittled down to 22-day shoot.
“So to work on something like this, where Kevin really was patient and took his time with the storytelling, you did feel like it was something rare and definitely something to be appreciated.”
Kevin co-wrote ‘Horizon’ and put his own money into the project, and he has “inspired” Luke to take a more active role in the direction of his own career.
He said: “Definitely seeing how hard Kevin worked was very inspiring to me, and just kind of made me want to buckle down on the writing and trying to get a few of the movies I’d like to get made personally trying to get them made. Los Angeles and the film business, it can be an easy place to kind of drift or wait until somebody comes to you with a job and it was very inspiring.”
The ‘Old School’ actor praised his “sensitive” director’s style of working.
He said: “Kevin was such a thoughtful and interesting director for me, and as hardworking as he is, and I’m saying he gets known as kind of a Clint Eastwood, Steve McQueen type guy, but he’s very sensitive. He’s a really sensitive guy and that comes across in this direction.”

‘Line of Duty’ actor Brian McCardie’s cause of death revealed

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Line of Duty’ actor Brian McCardie died after suffering a tear to a major heart artery.
The 59-year-old, best known for playing underworld boss John Thomas ‘Tommy’ Hunter in the popular BBC police drama, passed away in April, and his family have now revealed he was killed by an aortic dissection – a rare killer condition where a weakened aorta wall rips.
Brian’s sister Sarah said on social media: “Hi all, the McCardie family would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support regarding the sudden passing of Brian James McCardie, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend.
“Brian died due to an aortic dissection, causing short pain and a sudden death.”
Updating fans about Brian’s final farewell, she added: “There will be a funeral mass held on Thursday 23rd May at 11.30am at St Mary’s Church, 70 Bannatyne Street, Lanark.
“We then move on at 1.30pm to Holytown Crematorium, Memorial Way, Holytown, Motherwell, where we will celebrate Brian’s life before he takes his final bow.
“There will be links available to both the mass and the cremation service for those who cannot attend in person.
“We will feel your support from afar. With love and thanks, The McCardie family, Eddie, Moira, Martin, Ed, Liz and Sarah. Xxx.”
The British Heart Foundation says aortic dissection occurs when the weakened wall of the aorta tears, causing blood to leak between the layers that make up the walls of the arteries – with symptoms including sudden and severe chest pain, pain in the jaw and face, and shortness of breath.
Glasgow-born Brian’s 35-year acting career saw him star alongside Sean Bean in the 2021 BBC prison drama ‘Time’ and in the film ‘Rob Roy’, as well as ‘Trainspotting’ creator Irvine Welsh’s ‘Crime’ TV series.
His film appearances included Irvine’s police thriller ‘Filth’ and ‘Low Winter Sun’ featuring Mark Strong.

Noomi Rapace set to play Mother Teresa in biopic

OHMYGOSSIP — Noomi Rapace is set to play Mother Teresa in a new biopic.
The 44-year-old actress will play the Catholic saint in ‘Mother’, an upcomig biopic film that will focus on seven pivotal days in the life of Mother Teresa.
The Teona Strugar Mitevska-directed movie will centre on the saint’s decision to leave the Loreto Entally convent in Kolkata, India, and launch her own order, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
‘Mother’ will be Teona’s English-language debut and the director feels she can relate to the Catholic saint, who died in September 1997, aged 87.
Teona said: “I absolutely related to her as a woman and I saw a lot of myself in her.”
Noomi has been identified as the perfect candidate for the role.
Noomi has previously starred in movies such as ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ and ‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows’.
Although she’s enjoyed huge success in the movie business, Noomi still struggles to balance her acting career with her personal life.
The actress – who has a 21-year-old son called Lev – recently told the Guardian newspaper: “It’s a constant battle and internal conflict.
“My son is everything to me, but I couldn’t just be home and be a mother, that would drive me nuts. That’s not me. And I want to live by example: be someone who fights for my dream, who stands up for my beliefs and who says everything is possible.
“I came from a poor farm, I’m not educated, no one opened doors for me, I don’t come from money. So I’ve just been working my way through life and my son has been my partner in crime. We’ve been side by side through all the different chapters, but I’ve been away and it’s painful.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Pratt would love to make a movie with Katherine Schwarzenegger.
The 44-year-old actor has been married to Katherine since 2019, and Chris has admitted that he’d relish the chance to work with his wife one day.
Asked if he’d ever work with Katherine on a film project, Chris told PEOPLE: “I’ve asked her. I think she could be great. Because she’s actually a very good actress.”
Chris has been impressed by Katherine’s acting talents. However, the 34-year-old author – who is the daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver – doesn’t share his confidence.
Chris explained: “When she’s doing impressions and I’m like, ‘You’re really good.’ And she’s like, ‘No way. I could never do it. I would laugh too much.'”
Meanwhile, Chris recently revealed that he loves turning to Arnold Schwarzenegger for career advice.
The movie star admitted that he likes to lean on the ‘Terminator’ actor for guidance.
Chris told ‘Extra’: “Not everyone can say that their father-in-law is the Terminator, but mine literally will terminate me.”
The actor was born into a working-class family in Virginia, Minnesota, and Chris believes that Arnold is able to offer a unique perspective.
Chris – who has Lyla, three, and Eloise, 23 months, with Katherine, as well as Jack, 11, with his ex-wife Anna Faris – said: “He has the experience of raising kids in the spotlight and being an actor, a well-known person, and a celebrity, and it’s really great to have the wisdom of his experience to go to and to talk to about certain things that normally I would talk to my brother or my cousin or people that I grew up with and they might not be able to relate with certain things.”

Amy Dowden feels ‘proud of herself’ amid cancer battle

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Dowden feels “proud” of how she’s dealt with her cancer diagnosis.
The 33-year-old dancer has taken to social media to reflect on her journey over the last 12 months, after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023.
Alongside a series of photos and videos from the last year, Amy said on Instagram: “These past few weeks and especially days I’ve constantly been thinking this time last year I was having this test, or this appointment.
“A year ago today it was confirmed what we thought it was but it became reality and my life changed forever when the Dr said we are sorry Amy it’s cancer. I can’t believe it’s been a year and all what my body has been through and achieved.”
Amy – who is married to professional dancer Ben Jones – has agonised about her diagnosis over the last year.
She shared: “A year ago Ben, myself and my twin sister cried together and had to pull ourselves together as we had to break the news to my parents and just knowing the heart ache and worry it was going to cause.
“I used to lay awake for hours with my mind going to all sorts of places, would I make it to Christmas, would I dance again, how’s Ben going to cope, I don’t want to lose my hair, you name it. I wish I knew then how I would be a year on.
“I told myself constantly this too shall pass and a year on, my hair growing back, my energy getting better and better, back dancing and most importantly spending time with my family and friends and appreciating life.”
Amy ultimately feels proud of how she’s coped with the situation.
The dancer – who underwent a mastectomy after receiving the diagnosis – said: “I have a new body I’m still learning to accept and like, but do you know what it got me through the hardest time and I’m so proud of myself.”

Jeremy Clarkson slams fat-shaming: ‘Fatness doesn’t make someone lazy’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Clarkson thinks “fatness doesn’t make someone lazy”.
The former ‘Top Gear’ presenter, 64, admitted he is “something of a porker”, but insisted he is not lazy due to the back-breaking work he does on his Diddly Squat farm.
Jeremy has also argued laziness can lead to weight gain, and emphasised he can “think of lots of fat people with a good work ethic” like King Henry VIII.
In his column for The Sunday Times, he wrote: “Lazy people become fat. You may start out looking like Willem Dafoe or one of those heroin chic catwalk models, but if you sit in front of the TV all day, watching ‘Homes Under the Hammer’ and washing the endless frozen pizzas and crisps down with gallons of full-fat Coca-Cola, you will quickly become a human barrage balloon.
“And soon you will be too enormous to work because you can’t even get out of the front door.”
Jeremy added he enjoyed using social media because it helps him get out of the “puddle of self-inflicted misery” he often finds himself in.
But he conceded seeing others making the most of their time could send him on a “guilt trip”.
He went on: “As I have already explained, I wake sometimes on a Sunday morning in a puddle of self-inflicted misery and when I tune into TikTok to take my mind off the pain, I am assaulted with a never-ending stream of videos featuring people making the most of their weekends.
“They’re out for a bike ride, or they’re growing asparagus and radishes.
“There’s one girl in what I suspect is Milton Keynes who goes into her back garden every day and films herself skipping.
“I want to throttle her because I know I should be in the garden skipping too, or making a little house for the blue tits, or climbing Snowdon, or whatever the Labour Party has called it these days.
“These perfect strangers send me on a guilt trip.”
