Lily Gladstone unconcerned by Killers of the Flower Moon Oscar snub

OHMYGOSSIP — Lily Gladstone isn’t concerned that she missed out on an Oscar for ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’.
The 37-year-old actress became the first Native American to be nominated for an Academy Award for her depiction of Mollie Burkhart in Martin Scorsese’s movie and has no hard feelings about missing out on the prize to ‘Poor Things’ star Emma Stone.
Lily told Empire magazine: “That’s just the whole thing of award campaigns and the competitive nature of pitting art against art. Clearly this film, in this moment, had meaning. It did its job.
“But yeah, nobody was upset that it didn’t happen. I feel like when the Golden Globes happened (where she won the Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama gong), a lot of people who are very far away from the industry just kind of thought it was the Oscars.
“It’s about the fact that (the film has) been awarded and it’s historic, and it’s still just a really meaningful moment. So it’s irrelevant whether or not I walked home with that statue in hand.”
Gladstone formed a close rapport with co-star Leonardo DiCaprio while working on Scorsese’s film and she thinks that a positive atmosphere on set is always beneficial for a picture.
The ‘Fancy Dance’ star said: “One of the things about great directors is that they know how to cast people, or intuit that people will have a certain rapport or chemistry.
“There are days on set where I need to be fully immersed in my character, or the mood, or I’m going to get completely knocked off my horse. But by and large I kind of like saving it for the camera.
“So I like to have fun on set and it’s important that it be a positive place and camaraderie forms.”

Fern Britton in talks to return to This Morning

OHMYGOSSIP — Fern Britton is in talks to return to ‘This Morning’.
The 66-year-old star – who left the breakfast TV programme in 2009 – recently appeared as a guest and has revealed that producers have invited her to do some filming for the show.
She told Woman and Home: “When my interview finished and I left the studio, I was approached by a production team [member] who said, ‘Would you like to do some little films with us?’
“That conversation is yet to be had but those little four-minute films now and again? Perfect. Interviews would be the dream. I’d quite like to do something with politics. I’m not interested in party politics but politicians, and where the minds of those characters that we vote for are at.
“I don’t mind what party they’re up for, as long as they’re speaking truly to the country to understand what’s going on in the world, what a [mess] leaving Europe was and how they’re desperately trying to cover up the terrible things that are happening because of that.”
Fern presented the show from 1999 to 2009 and said she is a fan of new hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard.
She said: “Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard very much get my vote.”
She also spoke about the breakdown of her marriage to TV chef Phil Vickery, insisting that their greatest priority is their daughter Winnie, 22.
She said: “It’s not ideal that our marriage didn’t work, but… now, in general, there’s no hurt. Winnie wants to see us both happy and settled.”

Giovanni Pernice and Anton Du Beke’s joint tour will go ahead

OHMYGOSSIP — Giovanni Pernice and Anton Du Beke’s joint tour will go ahead as planned.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ stars are due to kick off their ‘Anton Giovanni Together’ tour on June 14 and there are no plans to cancel, despite Giovanni being mired in controversy after some of his celebrity partners are said to have complained about his conduct.
A source told The Mirror: “This has been a really difficult time for Giovanni but the tour with Anton is going ahead. There is no reason for it to be cancelled or even postponed. Gio has not been found guilty of anything, though he is the subject of much speculation. The Back Together tour will go ahead, and he and Anton will be standing up on stage together as they have done for many tours.”
However, their travel show for the BBC has reportedly been put on ice while an investigation takes place..
A source told The Sun: “Giovanni and Anton had conversations about another travel show and had discussed where they could go next after their trips to Sicily and Spain. But Giovanni has now been told this won’t be happening and there will not be another series. It’s embarrassing because he’d actively hinted about getting another run but all discussions are off and he’s been told the show is on the scrap heap now.”
Despite facing criticism for the way he allegedly treats his partners, Giovanni, 33, previously emphasised he only wants to do his best for the contestants.
He explained to the Sunday Mirror’s ‘Invite Only’ podcast: “I am a perfectionist, 100 per cent, but it comes from a perspective of caring. I think all of the professional dancers are in the same place.
“In every single part of the world, if you’re a professional dancer on one of these shows, you have to get these people looking the best they can on Saturday night.
“And if we have good scores at the end, I do look back and say, ‘I’ve done a great job’. But we all care about our partners and we want that for them every single week – to look great on a Saturday.
“There’s no specific way that you are, or have to be with your celebrity. You make the most of their strengths so the only thing that’s constant is the fact that you have to do a show on Saturday night.”

George Lucas defends his Star Wars prequels

OHMYGOSSIP — George Lucas has defended his ‘Star Wars’ prequels.
The 80-year-old director insisted that his movies were never meant to appeal to grown ups and he doesn’t understand the hate directed at them.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, he said at the Cannes Film Festival: “It was supposed to be a kid’s movie for 12-year-olds that were going through puberty, who don’t know what they’re doing, and are asking all the big questions: ‘What should I be worried about? What’s important in life?’ And ‘Star Wars’ has all those things in there. They’re buried in there but you definitely get it, especially if you’re young.”
He claimed the negativity came from “critics and fans who had been 10 years old when they saw the first one” and he was particularly upset by the ridicule of Jar Jar Binks, which reminded him of the original response to C-3PO.
He said: “Everybody said the same thing about 3-PO, that he was irritating and we should get rid of him. When I did the third one it was the Ewoks: ‘Those are little teddy bears. This is a kid’s movie, we don’t want to see a kids’ movie. I said: ‘It is a kids’ movie. It’s always been a kids’ movie.’”
And, he also shared his thoughts on the sequels, which were made after he sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012.
He said: “I was the one who really knew what ‘Star Wars’ was … who actually knew this world, because there’s a lot to it. The Force, for example, nobody understood the Force. When they started other ones after I sold the company, a lot of the ideas that were in [the original] sort of got lost. But that’s the way it is. You give it up, you give it up.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Anna Maxwell Martin says it is unlikely she will appear in the ‘Motherland’ spin-off.
Last week, it was announced that a new series ‘Amandaland’ focusing on Amanda (Lucy Punch) after her divorce was in development but Anna, who played stressed-out Julia, does not see her character making an appearance in the new show.

Praising Lucy and co-star Philippa Dunne, who will reprise her role as Anne in the spin-off, Anna added: “Phil and Luce are brilliant comediennes and brilliant actresses, so yeah it’s good.”
Joanna Lumley will also be returning as Amanda’s mother.

BBC’s Head of Comedy, Tanya Qureshi, said: “’Motherland’ continues to be one of the most loved comedies on the BBC, and we’re so pleased we are carrying on with the story, taking the characters in a new direction and to a different postcode.
“Lucy, Joanna and Phillipa are three of the funniest comedy actors around and we’re thrilled to have them on board.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford have split up after 27 years together.
The TV couple – who presented ITV’s ‘This Morning’ together from 1999 until 2022 on a rotation with other hosts – tied the knot in 2010 and have son Jack, 22, together but announced via a representative on Saturday (25.05.24) that they have started divorce proceedings.
The statement said: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”
Eamonn – who was initially married to Gabrielle Homes until 1994 and has Declan, Rebecca, and Niall with her – has been through back surgery in recent years, and ‘Loose Women’ anchor Ruth recently revealed that while they “live in hope”, she is not sure how much his mobility will actually improve.
She told Woman’s Weekly: “I don’t know how much Eamonn’s mobility will improve. We live in hope.
‘He does the physio, but there might have to be some acceptance that this might never be 100% right. With any care situation – and there are millions of carers in this country – it isn’t always easy. It’s testing but we manage as a family.”
According to Ruth and Eamonn are expected to make their own statements regarding the split in due course.
Former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestant Ruth previously revealed that Eamonn first laid eyes on her when she was presenting on ‘Countryfile’ and remembered who she was when they actually met a few years later.
Speaking during her Life Before Loose segment on ‘Loose Women’, she said: “He was at home watching ‘Countryfile’ and he said that ‘This woman popped up doing a piece to camera’, and I was doing a piece to camera on the back of a boat. When I met him a couple of years later, he asked me if I was on the back of a boat on a red jacket.
“So he spotted me!”

Claire Sweeney taking ‘short break’ from Coronation Street to film another role

OHMYGOSSIP — Claire Sweeney is taking a “short break” from ‘Coronation Street’ to film another role.
The 53-year-old star will be away from the cobbles for a “matter of days” to reprise her role as cruise director Beverley Carnell in Channel 5 murder mystery drama ‘The Good Ship Murder’.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Claire’s taking a short break from ‘Corrie’ to film.
“It’s a matter of days and won’t affect anything on the cobbles.
“Everything has been arranged so there will be no on-screen disruption.”
It comes after Claire – who plays homeless drug addict Cassie Plummer in the ITV soap – recently confirmed she had put pen to paper on a new one-year ‘Coronation Street’ deal.
She told Cheshire Life magazine: “I’ve just signed my contract for another year in ‘Corrie’, and I’m really happy to fully invest all my time and energy into Cassie and see what develops.”
Former ‘Brookside’ actress Claire – who is dating ex-pro boxer Ricky Hatton – admitted it has been a “dream come true” working with actors such as Dame Maureen Lipman, who plays Cassie’s mother Evelyn Plummer.
Claire added: “I couldn’t be happier about the acting scenes I have done recently in ‘Coronation Street’ with Dame Maureen Lipman in the Rovers, and with Alan Halsall and Jennie McAlpine in the Dobbs household.
“When I first came in to ‘Corrie’, I did a 14-page scene with Maureen while my character was in hospital. Playing opposite such a phenomenal actor was a dream come true.
“The writing and direction for that episode was amazing. That is definitely one of my highlights.”

Daisy Ridley yet to see finished script for new Star Wars movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Daisy Ridley still hasn’t seen the finished script for her new ‘Star Wars’ movie.
The 32-year-old actress is reprising her role as Rey in a new film set to follow her rebuilding the Jedi Order after defeating Emperor Palpatine in 2019’s ‘The Rise of Skywalker’, but she is yet to read final draft.
Asked if she’d seen a copy, she told Collider: “That has not changed yet – but it is imminently about to change.”
When it comes to stepping back into the character of Rey, Ridley admitted there were some challenges despite the familiarity of the role.
She explained: “So this one feels the same because I’m playing a character I’ve played before, but it’s different because it’s been many years.
“I would hope I’m coming back as a richer artist, but also I’m in different hands, so that’s interesting and new.
“A different story. So that I think will be a discovery as we go on.”
The film is being directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and will follow ‘The Rise of Skywalker’, which acted as the end of the long running Skywalker Saga.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed the movie will see the beginning of a new era of the ‘Star Wars’ timeline, with Rey working to rebuild the Jedi Order after her grandfather Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) and the First Order were defeated.
For Ridley, she is excited to find new ways to push herself as she would be with any other project.
She said: “I feel like every job I’ve done, I have challenged myself in a way, and oftentimes it’s not presented until you’re there, and you think, ‘Oh my God.’
“For instance, Young Woman and the Sea, the scene between me and Tilda [Cobham-Hervey] as Trudy and Meg [is] really the lowest point of the movie.
“I was really nervous about doing the scene and knew it would be difficult, and then there’s a stamina you have to continue to do, because you’re continuing to do the scene, so you’re discovering things as you go, it’s all an adventure.”

Jerry Bruckheimer gives Pirates of the Caribbean update

OHMYGOSSIP — Two ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movies are still in the works, according to franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
He recently confirmed Disney are planning to “reboot” the film franchise, while talk of a female-centric ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie starring Margot Robbie appeared to have gone cold.
However, the producer has now revealed there are still plans to make both motion pictures, telling Entertainment Weekly: “It’s two different movies.
“We hope to get ’em both made, and I think Disney agrees they really want to make the Margot one, too.”
Last month, Bruckheimer hinted there would be a new cast for the upcoming ‘Pirates’ reboot.
During an interview with Comicbook.com, he was asked whether fans should expect a new ‘Top Gun’ movie before the next ‘Pirates’ instalment, and he explained: “It’s hard to tell.
“You don’t know, you really don’t know. You don’t know how they come together. You just don’t know.
“Because with ‘Top Gun’ you have an actor [Tom Cruise] who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he does before he does ‘Top Gun’, I can’t tell you.
“But we’re gonna reboot ‘Pirates’, so that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.”
Craig Mazin and Ted Elliott have penned the script for a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6’ movie.
But last year, Mazin told how he was stunned that Disney signed off on their pitch, because it was a “weird” idea.
He told the Los Angeles Times newspaper: “We pitched it and thought there’s no way they’re buying it, it’s too weird. And they did! And then [we] wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone’s waiting around.”

Angela Rippon blasts BBC for keeping consumer shows out of primetime slots

OHMYGOSSIP — Angela Rippon has blasted the BBC for shunning consumer shows in primetime slots.
The ‘Rip Off Britain’ presenter has questioned the broadcaster’s decision to keep her show as part of the daytime schedule, with ‘Watchdog’ also reduced to being a weekly segment as part of ‘The One Show’.
She told the Radio Times magazine: “How come such a valuable programme doesn’t command the spotlight and the bigger audience of a primetime slot?
“Why is consumer journalism absent from BBC primetime television? Well, that’s the question we are constantly asked by loyal viewers.
“‘Rip Off Britain’ was conceived as a daytime programme, so that’s where we stay. It’s one of the peculiarities of TV scheduling.”
The 79-year-old star insisted the prevalence of scams means consumer shows need to be broadcasted to the biggest audience possible.
She said: “Let’s face it, in the current economic climate where every penny counts, and consumers are more and more under threat from scams that rob them of their hard-earned cash, millions more could benefit from our expertise, advice and reputation.”
Angela pointed to the dangers presented by “sophisticated scammers, fraudsters and blatant rip-off merchants”, which makes such shows more necessary than ever before.
She added: “With a cost-of-living crisis and so much of our financial lives – from banking to shopping – online, it could be argued that consumer programming has never been more important.”
While the TV schedule isn’t ideal, Angela pointed out that viewers can still stream ‘Rip Off Britain’ even if they aren’t home when it’s first aired.
She said: “Fortunately, BBC iPlayer means you can be your own scheduler.
“Watch ‘Rip Off Britain’ in your own prime time, at nine o’clock at night or three in the morning – whatever works for you.”

Ryan Reynolds is ‘surprised’ that Disney has made Deadpool and Wolverine a ‘Hard R’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Reynolds is shocked that Disney have allowed ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ to be a “Hard R”.
The 47-year-old star will reprise his role as the wise-cracking superhero in the long-awaited blockbuster this summer and is “surprised” that the studio gave film bosses the creative content for an adult story featuring Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.
Ryan told Fandango: “I’m really proud of them for doing this. I think it’s a huge step for them. It adds a whole other colour to this kaleidoscopic wheel that is that company and the different people that they have been entertaining for forever.”
The ‘IF’ actor added: “I was surprised though that they let us go as Hard R… but very grateful. I mean, there’s no other way to do it.
“For this character and this world, and particularly ‘Logan’ being an R-rated film as well, I felt like that was the most full-throated version of Wolverine and Logan that we’ve ever seen as well, so it really allowed us a lot of freedom, not exploiting the R rating just to do R-rated stuff, but really allowing us to do anything and everything in a world where anything and everything is possible.”
Shawn Levy has directed the superhero flick – which is set to be released in July – and has promised that the film is a “two-hander character adventure” as opposed to just ‘Deadpool 3’.
He told Screen Rant: “As far as crafting the ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ story, I just felt privileged every day because you’re talking about two massive movie stars in their most iconic roles.
“It also gave me an opportunity. It’s the third Deadpool movie, but it’s not ‘Deadpool 3’. It’s a different thing that’s very much Deadpool and Wolverine.
“And it’s not trying to copycat anything from the first two movies. They were awesome, but this is a two-hander character adventure.”

Aaron Eckhart cast in crime thriller Thieves Highway

OHMYGOSSIP — Aaron Eckhart is to star in ‘Thieves Highway’.
The 56-year-old actor has signed up to appear alongside Devon Sawa in the crime thriller from filmmaker Jesse V. Johnson.
Aaron will play an Oklahoma Stock Detective who is in over his head in the world of modern cattle rustling.
Travis Mills has written the film’s script and it is being produced by Corey Large for his 308 Enterprises banner.
Kirk Shaw and Jon Keeyes are executive producing the feature and Red Sea Media is responsible for foreign sales at Cannes.
Former stuntman Johnson said in a statement: “‘Thieves Highway’ is a passion project, for Aaron and me. We spent a lot of time developing Travis Mills’ script, embracing factual anecdotes and actual characters to flesh out a vibrant and action-packed modern crime story.”
Large added: “Aaron is creating a unique brand of starring in high-quality genre pictures, joining the likes of Liam Neeson and Mel Gibson, and we are excited to be part of enhancing that profile with ‘Thieves Highway’.
“Jesse’s background in stunts ensures that audiences will experience the story as though they are in the middle of the action.”
Meanwhile, Aaron previously revealed that he loves working on independent films as the cast and crew are always “on the edge”.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: “Independent movie-making is certainly more like the Wild, Wild West. You’re on the edge all the time. You don’t know if you’re going to make your days. You don’t know if you’re going to have enough money for the next day. There’s also a lot of freedom in that.
“It’s exciting to me because I can change the words if I want. I can improvise. I can make stuff up. When I’m on a big-budget movie, I’m not doing that. It’s more corporate.”
