Dame Judi Dench says she has no plans for more acting jobs as she ‘can’t even see’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Judi Dench has said she has no plans for any more acting jobs as she “can’t even see”.
The Oscar-winning ‘Spectre’ actress, 89, has not appeared on the big screen since she appeared in 2022’s ‘Spirited’ and is losing her sight to macular degeneration, which has grown so severe she can no longer drive or read scripts.
When asked if she has any acting work planned, she told a reporter at London’s recent Chelsea Flower Show: “No, no, I can’t even see!”
The Daily Mirror has reported her agent said there was nothing more to add to Judi’s comment when they were approached for clarification on her acting plans.
Her representative told the newspaper: “Judi has nothing more to add than all she mentioned to the journalist.”
Judi is still busy with off-screen projects, and is still promoting her 2023 book, ‘Shakespeare: The Man Who Pays the Rent’.
She is planning to appear at Cheltenham Book Fair and has three shows planned with raconteur Gyles Brandreth.
Near the end of 2022, Judi said she was refusing to retire despite her eye condition.
She told Louis Theorux on the BBC’s ‘Louis Theroux Interviews’ show: “I don’t want to retire. I’m not doing much at the moment because I can’t see. It’s bad.
“I have a photographic memory so a person saying to me, ‘’This is your line…’. I can do that .”
The actress had ‘carpe diem’ tattooed on her right wrist a few years ago and recently told Yours magazine she is refusing to slow down as she ages.
She added: “We’ve got to keep going and not think of age too much. You have to think you are about 56.
“I’m a great advocate for not sitting back. I can never think, ‘Oh, my eyesight’s bad, I can’t possibly do this. I refuse to be beaten by age.”

Netflix boss declares ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ would have had ‘just as big an audience’ on streamer

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ would have grabbed “just as big an audience” on Netflix as in cinemas, the streamer’s co-CEO has declared.
Ted Sarandos, 59, made the statement about last year’s two biggest blockbusters – which raked in a joint $2.4 billion at the global box office and were credited with helping ‘save cinema’ from the jaws of stay-at-home streaming – while talking about what type of content isn’t right for Netflix.
He told The New York Times: “I don’t think that there’s a clean answer because the best version of something may work really well for Netflix but just hasn’t worked to date.
“There’s some obvious ones, like we don’t do breaking news and that kind of thing, because I think there’s a lot of other outlets for it. People aren’t looking to us for that.”
When the Netflix boss’ Times interviewer then pointed out the theatrical releases of ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’, which spawned the cultural phenomenon ‘Barbenheimer’ – sparked by film fans going to watch both movies consecutively – he added: “Both of those movies would be great for Netflix. They definitely would have enjoyed just as big an audience on Netflix.”
He went on: “And so I don’t think there’s any reason to believe that certain kinds of movies do or don’t work.
“There’s no reason to believe that the movie itself is better in any size of screen for all people. My son’s an editor. He is 28 years old, and he watched ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ on his phone.”
Sarandos said in January Netflix does not plan to change its “strategy or the mix (of licensed and original films)” after 55-year-old Scott Stuber’s exit as its film chairman. According to the co-CEO, Netflix’s original movies “are attracting some of the biggest audiences in the world”.
He added: “It’s always going to be that kind of blend of, first window, second window and deep catalogue.
“We think that formula works best to entertain the world.”

‘Love Island 2024’ cast includes pro-footballer, dancer and nurse

OHMYGOSSIP — The cast for this year’s ‘Love Island’ includes a professional footballer, dancer and nurse.
Girls looking to find their soulmate on the ITV reality series includes make-up artist Samatha Kenny, mental health nurse Mimii Ngulube, shop manager Jessica White, investment worker Patsy Field, professional dancer Harri Blackmore, and account manager Nicole Samuel.
The boys include surveyor and rugby union player Ciaran Davies, businessman Sean Stone, hairdresser Sam Taylor, recruitment manager Munveer Jabbal, and footballers Ayo Odukoya and Ronnie Vint.
Make-up artist Samatha, 26, from Liverpool, claims she is going to be bringing “some fire” to the villa.
She added: “I think I will definitely bring some fire, I’m very opinionated and wear my heart on my sleeve. I’m really bubbly too so I’ll definitely have a laugh as well as bringing some scouse glamour.”
Mimii Ngulube, 24, believes being a “girl’s girl” and her sense of humour will win her a man on the show.
She said: “I’m a girls’ girl. My girls are my rocks and I’m theirs so I’ll be a good friend as well as going in there to find a man. I like dressing up so I’ll bring style, and I’d like to think I’m quite funny so I’ll make people laugh.
“I’m bringing honesty as well – I’m good at picking up on people’s personality traits and side-eyeing those who might be a liar.”
Meanwhile, 27-year-old Ronnie Vint, who plays for Lewes FC, said he was looking for “blondes with nice boobs”.
But he emphasised he wanted someone who was “family orientated, caring and career-minded”.
The footballer added his biggest claim to fame was being 30-year-old Bradley Dack’s best man when he married former ‘Love Island’ contestant Olivia Attwood, 33, in June last year.
He said: “Bradley Dack is my best friend and he and Olivia are a big part of my life. I call Olivia my big little sister, she always looks out for me.”
‘Love Island’ starts at 9pm Monday 3 June on ITV1, ITV2, ITVX and STV.

Jeremy Clarkson shaped Top Gear to keep ‘American car nuts happy’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Clarkson wanted to keep “American car nuts happy” while making ‘Top Gear’.
The 64-year-old TV star presented the programme from 2002 to 2015 alongside James May, 61, and Richard Hammond, 54, and admitted he chose to tone down the show’s absurdity to appease the fans who wanted “less cocking about”.
In his column for The Sunday Times, he wrote: “Many years ago, when ‘Top Gear’ was a swashbuckling festival of tyre smoke and innuendo that came into your living room every Sunday evening like a drunken uncle, I just sort of did what felt right every week.
“But then I started consulting a small but very keen fan site in America to see what they were saying. And what they were mostly saying is that they wanted more cars and less cocking about.
“This meant, when it was time to start preparing the following week’s show, their views would be front and centre in my head.
“My gut would tell me to do one thing, but these faceless uberfans would be telling me to do something else. And I found myself more and more doing that.
It was ridiculous. We were making a show for a weekly audience of 350 million people, but I was shaping it to keep maybe 25 American car nuts happy.
“I dreaded their displeasure on a Sunday night, and I’d do anything to avoid it.”
After working on the BBC programme, the ‘Clarkson’s Farm’ star and his colleagues moved over to Amazon Prime to work on their own motoring show ‘The Grand Tour’.
However, the trio confirmed they would be exiting the series after the final special releases later this year.
When James was asked if he expected to work with Jeremy and Richard again once they parted ways with the programme, he the chances were slim.
He told Unilad: “I think people would only really like us doing cars, despite what some people say – ‘Oh, I think you should all go off and do cooking or you should all go and do a podcast about nothing.’ “But I don’t think so, I think we should let it lie, what we did.”

Laura Whitmore admits she ‘forgot’ about herself after she gave birth

OHMYGOSSIP — Laura Whitmore “forgot” about herself after giving birth.
The 39-year-old presenter was back at work filming an episode of ‘Celebrity Juice’ shortly after welcoming Stevie Ré – who she has with husband Iain Stirling – in March 2021 and admitted that she had put “everything” into being a new mum to the point where she disregarded her own health, such as her pelvic floor.
She told Hello magazine: “I’m a bit of a mad woman. On that first show back, they asked me to get onto a trampoline for a game and I had to admit: ‘I don’t think I can.’ But I also realised I wanted to be able to. We take our pelvic floor for granted when we’re in our early 20s and it’s only now I realise it’s something we need to work on to keep strong.
“I actually had no idea about it until I had a kid. After giving birth, I had one session with a pelvic-floor health specialist and that was it. They sent me on my way.
“I knew that one consultation wasn’t enough, but when you’re a new mum, everything goes into keeping this child alive and you forget about yourself.”
The former ‘Love Island’ host was cast in the West End play ‘2:22: A Ghost Story’ a year after she gave birth and admitted that while she wanted to take on the challenge, she had to “look after herself” in order to do so.
She said: “A year after I gave birth, I was doing a play in the West End and every night I had to scream and run off stage simultaneously, and it was a challenge.
“I wanted to be able to do these things and knew I needed to look after myself to be able to do so. It’s not about weight, it’s about how we feel and how strong we are.”

EastEnders star Lucy Benjamin reveals why she is ‘terrified’ of social media

OHMYGOSSIP — Lucy Benjamin is “terrified” of social media.
The 53-year-old actress – who has daughters Bessie, 16, and 12-year-old Rosie with her former husband Richard Taggart – stepped away from her signature role as Lisa Fowler on the BBC soap opera ‘EastEnders’ last year and now that she is starring as the mother of a wannabe influencer in ‘Look to the Light’, she explained that she “relies” on her own children to help her reluctantly “embrace” the likes of Instagram and TikTok.
She told Digital Spy: “We can all have different opinions, but conversations have to be had. There’s no shying away from it. Social media is here to stay.
“I feel out of my depth with it. I’m relying on my kids to kind of make me savvy with it. It terrifies me. But just because I’m scared of it, it doesn’t mean it’s got to go away. I’ve got to embrace it – and have ownership over it, almost.
“At my age, I’d rather close the door, and go, ‘I don’t like that. So go away. I’m not doing it.’ But it’s a fact of life now, I think. It’s here to stay. A whole new world! I rely on my kids, they know it more than I know it.”
But the former ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’ contestant is keen to “limit the amount” of time her daughters spend on-screen because she is aware that interacting via social media does not constitute a “conversation” in the real word.
She said: “The only thing I can do is sabotage it by making them not be on the screen so much, or look at the world as we drive past something or are on a train or on the bus.
“You know, let’s see what’s happening, as opposed to looking down. So I try to limit the amount.
“But it’s a different way of communicating among their peers now. It’s a method of communication.’Hello’ is a Snapchat, or it’s whatever it is. It’s not a conversation.”

Jeremy Renner open to Mission: Impossible comeback

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Renner has opened the door for a return to ‘Mission: Impossible’.
The 53-year-old actor has not appeared in the last two films in the adrenaline fueled blockbuster franchise, with his most recent appearance as William Brandt coming in 2015’s ‘Rogue Nation’, but he would be willing to reprise the role in the future.
He told Collider: “Maybe now that my daughter is older that could happen. I’d always jump into a ‘Mission: Impossible’ anytime and back into Brandt. It’s great.”
Renner loved working on the movies, but he decided to leave the film franchise nine years ago to make sure he was around for his daughter, who he has with ex-wife Sonni Pacheco.
He explained: “Yeah. I had to leave that. I was supposed to do more with them. I love those guys. I love Tom [Cruise] so much.
“We had so much fun, and I love that character a lot. It requires a lot of time away. It’s all in London. I had to go be a dad. It just wasn’t gonna work out then.”
In January 2023, the actor suffered serious injuries after being run over by his own snowplow at his Nevada home.
However, he recently spoke of his determination to honour those who supported him during the horrific ordeal by returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Clint Barton/Hawkeye.
Asked about reprising the role, he told Entertainment Tonight: “I’m always game. I’m gonna be strong enough, that’s for sure. I’ll be ready.
“All those guys come to my bedside and they’ve been with me all along through this recovery, so… if they want me, they could have me. It would be something.”
He spent more than two weeks in hospital after breaking more than 30 bones in the accident and is going to prioritise “health and wellness” for the rest of his life.
The ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ star said: “(I’m doing) probably 90 per cent of all the things I needed to be doing… I think another six months will be hopefully running (more)… I got to set goals for myself. I’ll do whatever I can… whatever it takes to get better, to get stronger.
“It’s a one-way street, this recovery. The rest of my life is about health and wellness.”

Josh O’Connor and Cailee Spaeny board Knives Out 3

OHMYGOSSIP — Josh O’Connor and Cailee Spaeny have boarded ‘Knives Out 3’.
The ‘Crown’ star, 34, and the ‘Priscilla’ actress, 25, will join lead star Daniel Craig – who is back as detective Benoit Blanc – in Rian Johnson’s ‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’ for Netflix, What’s On Netflix reported.
Production will kick off in June, with the movie slated for release in 2025.
Last week, Johnson confirmed on X: “I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.
“We’re about to go into production on the 3rd one and I’m very, very excited to share the title, which gives a little hint of where it’s going.
“The next Benoit Blanc mystery, the follow-up to ‘Knives Out’ and ‘Glass Onion’, is called ‘Wake Up Dead Man’.”
And, Netflix shared the news on its Tudum site, stating: “That’s right, Daniel Craig is back as the suave Southern investigator in ‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’, a new installment of the whodunnit franchise written and directed by Rian Johnson. Blanc will be unraveling a brand-new murder mystery in an as-yet-undisclosed setting, surrounded by a new cast of suspects.”
The first ‘Knives Out’ movie was released in 2019, when Blanc was hired to investigate the death of best-selling author Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer). He joined forces with nurse Marta Cabrera (Ana de Armas) to uncover the truth.
And in 2022’s ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’, he was in Greece investigating tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton).

Callie Cooke teases ‘dark’ Doctor Who episode despite ‘shiny and silly’ tone

OHMYGOSSIP — Callie Cooke admitted her ‘Doctor Who’ episode “has a dark side” despite appearing “shiny and silly”.
The iconic sci-fi show’s latest guest star – who will join the cast for this weekend’s episode ‘Dot and Bubble’ – is playing Lindy Pepper-Bean “an influencer of the future” on the seemingly “carefree” planet of Finetime.
She told the BBC: “The tone of the episode when it starts is incredibly shiny and silly and, to the eye, looks quite harmless.
“But it definitely has a dark side and an undercurrent that is so important, I think [showrunner Russell T Davies] does that so well in his writing.
“And Ncuti [Gatwa] blew us all away on set – he is such a brilliant actor, so you can expect to see that!”
Callie will feature alongside Ncuti’s Fifteenth Doctor, and his companion Ruby Sunday, who is played by Millie Gibson.
The episode is also set to include ‘White Lines’ actor Tom Rhys Harris as Ricky September, and Susan Twist will be back in another new role, this time playing Penny Pepper-Bean.
Callie has “always wanted” to be part of ‘Doctor Who’, and she’s been loving the monsters in the current series.
She revealed: “I’m a Matt Smith fan, also a David Tennant fan because I am obsessed with him as an actor.
“In terms of monsters, I actually think the Bogeyman in Space Babies is one of the scariest monsters I’ve ever seen.”
When it comes to her own character, the actress thrived on the challenge of such a “complex” role.
She said: “Lindy is incredibly complex – she’s very privileged, very sheltered, set in her ways, petulant and sometimes a bit annoying – which was an exciting mix to play.
“She really cares about her friends, but she probably cares more about how she looks and comes across more!”

Glen Powell remains optimistic about Captain Planet movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Glen Powell is “optimistic” about his ‘Captain Planet’ film coming to the big screen.
The 35-year-old actor has been attached to star as the superhero in a movie produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way company since 2016 and continues to hold out hope that the project will eventually be made.
Asked if the ‘Captain Planet’ movie will ever come to fruition, Glen told Collider: “God, I freaking hope so.
“Trust me, we have been working hard on that one for a long time. I’m optimistic about his future, but you never know the timeline.”
The ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ actor stressed last year that he was determined to portray the environmentalist superhero despite the lack of progress on the movie’s development.
Powell said: “Captain Planet is definitely something I’m incredibly passionate about. Leonardo DiCaprio and I have been putting that together for several years. With the recent changes over at Warner Bros., we’re just trying to figure out how the pieces will fall.
“It’s an environmental superhero, so it’s not necessarily part of DC – it exists outside of that world. At the same time, I think the world has never needed an environmental superhero more!
“So I think it tonally fits in with everything that James Gunn and Peter Safran are doing at DC and Leo and I are very optimistic that we can make something happen. I’d love to play Captain Planet – that’d be sick.”
‘Captain Planet’ might be the only superhero project Glen works on as he recently explained that he has little interest in “Oscar bait” and “Marvel fare” which led him to turn down a part in the new ‘Jurassic World’ picture.
He said: “‘Jurassic’ is one of my favourite movies. It’s one of the things I’ve wanted to do my whole life. I’m not doing that movie because I read the script and I immediately was like, my presence in this movie doesn’t help it.
“This movie’s going to fricking kill. It’s not about that. It’s about choosing where you’re going to make an audience happy and where you’re going to make yourself happy.”

‘They need to do a course correction’: John Musker urges Disney to focus on plots instead of politics

OHMYGOSSIP — John Musker has hit out at Disney for prioritising politics over plot in their live-action remakes.
The 70-year-old animator has helmed classic movies such as ‘The Little Mermaid’ and ‘Aladdin’ for the studio and has urged film chiefs to put “compelling stories and characters” before political agendas in their current work.
John told the Spanish publication El Pais: “We weren’t trying to be woke, although I understand the criticism.
“The classic Disney films didn’t start out trying to have a message. They wanted you to get involved in the characters and the story and the world, and I think that’s still the heart of it.
“You don’t have to exclude agendas, but you have to first create characters who you sympathise with and who are compelling.
“I think they need to do a course correction a bit in terms of putting the message secondary, behind entertainment and compelling story and engaging characters.”
John explained that he wasn’t impressed with last year’s live-action remake of ‘The Little Mermaid’ – which starred Halle Bailey as Ariel – and questioned the studio for rehashing old projects.
He said: “Companies are always like, ‘How do we reduce our risk? They like this, right? We’ll just do it again and sell it to them in a different form.’ Or they think, ‘Well, we could make it better.’
“I think there was a question even with ‘The Little Mermaid’. They didn’t play up the father-daughter story, and that was the heart of the movie, in a way. And the crab – you could look at live animals in the zoo and they have more expression, like with ‘The Lion King’.
“That’s one of the basic things about Disney, is the appeal. That’s what animation does best.”

ITV warns ‘niche’ TV shows face uncertain future

OHMYGOSSIP — ITV has warned that “niche” TV shows are at risk of not being made.
The broadcaster has observed that the TV industry is in the midst of a funding crisis and has warned the Department of Culture, Media and Sport that “margins for very distinctive British content are narrowing” as international audiences were becoming less keen on British-centric content.
ITV told a committee: “We commissioned ‘Mr Bates’ in the knowledge that it would be challenging to make a profit but we felt the responsibility to tell the postmasters story was important.
“Unfortunately, rising costs, lower commissioning budgets and international markets/clients experiencing the same economic/sector specific challenges as UK broadcasters mean it is becoming even harder for ITV to take risks like ‘Mr Bates’.”
ITV observed that certain TV shows have a much broader appeal than “UK-focused dramas”.
As a result, the broadcaster may be forced to focus its attention and finances on programmes that have a “global appeal” and are, therefore, more financially lucrative.
ITV explained: “It’s no secret that the cost and risk of making very UK-specific dramas which may have limited international appeal is becoming more challenging as costs increase and it becomes essential to assemble financing for drama from many different partners to get projects off the ground.
“ITV has an outstanding record in making these sorts of UK-focused dramas and we will continue to do that but it is harder and harder to make the economics work in a way that is less true of dramas with obvious global appeal.”

Eamonn Holmes thanks viewers for support amid divorce

OHMYGOSSIP — Eamonn Holmes has thanked viewers for their support amid his split from Ruth Langsford.
The 64-year-old TV star and Ruth recently announced their split after 14 years of marriage, and Eamonn has now thanked viewers for their recent show of support, admitting that it’s “very much appreciated”.
He said on GB News: “Just before we move on, we’d just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation.
“Your support for both of us is very much appreciated.”
A source previously revealed that Eamonn intended to address his split from Ruth during an upcoming TV appearance.
The veteran presenter was determined to “say a few words” about their break-up, rather than shying away from the issue.
The insider told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Eamonn is always frank on camera and knows it will be odd for him to discuss the day’s news without mentioning his split so he’ll say a few words.
“He is putting on a brave face and will be the true professional he always is. Focusing on work will be a welcome distraction.”
Eamonn and Ruth, 64, announced their split on Saturday (25.05.24).
The celebrity duo – who previously co-hosted ‘This Morning’ together – are already in the process of finalising their divorce.
A rep for the duo said at the time: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”
Meanwhile, Ruth previously revealed the origins of her romance with Eamonn, explaining that the TV star spotted her on an episode of ‘Countryfile’.
Ruth and Eamonn came face-to-face “a couple of years later” and the duo eventually fell in love.
She said on ‘Loose Women’: “He was at home watching ‘Countryfile’ and he said that ‘This woman popped up doing a piece to camera’, and I was doing a piece to camera on the back of a boat. When I met him a couple of years later, he asked me if I was on the back of a boat on a red jacket.
“So he spotted me!”

‘The Masked Singer’ presenter, 38, is heading for a stint as the host of Lorraine Kelly’s ITV show on Thursday (30.05.24) and Friday – and is bringing his wife Hannah Cooper and mum Penny along to make the job a family affair.
Joel told the Daily Mirror: “I can’t believe I’m going on ‘Lorraine’ for two days! I love being a guest and I’m so excited to be temporarily filling her wonderful shoes.
“It’s the comfiest seat on telly by far so I can’t wait to sit on it for a full hour. Tune in for some wholesome morning niceness.”
Joel and model Hannah, 34, who have eight-month-old son Wilde, will be pitted against each other in a ‘Masked Stylist’ challenge on the show.
And the host’s mum Penny, who is a landscape designer, will be using her skills to show viewers how to care for their house plants this summer, in a segment to be titled ‘Perfect Plants with Penny’.
Lorraine Kelly, 64, is being replaced by Joel as she is taking a few days holiday.
She said about how she is delighted he is stepping into her shoes: “I’m so happy we can unmask Joel as the host of my show on Thursday and Friday of this week.
“He will be keeping my sofa warm for me whilst I’m away.
“This is a first for Joel and I know he’ll do a wonderful job.
“He’s one of the best in the business and I couldn’t be more pleased to be handing him the reins for a couple of days.”
Lorraine took part in ‘The Masked Singer’ in January as the character Owl, and at the time Joel said before she was unveiled as the woman behind the bird: “This might be one of the best reveals we’ve ever had on the show.”
Lorraine said about her time on the Saturday night series: “I’ve loved being Owl – I’ve loved every single second – the show is so joyful.”

Alexander Armstrong plays records to bring back ‘spirits’ of dead loved ones

OHMYGOSSIP — Alexander Armstrong believes in ghosts and is playing records to resurrect the “spirits” of his deceased loved ones.
The 54-year-old Pointless host, who also fronts a show on Classic FM, says music is one of the best ways to feel the dead around you as it holds a “power” – and is strongly associated with the days when the dead were still around.
Alexander said the technique is part of his ambition to face up to the realities of death and embrace remembering those who have passed away.
He told The Times: “I believe in being able to summon up the spirit of someone you love.
“It’s not a case of being haunted in the hallways or bits of furniture moving or bumping.
“I’ve decided ghost means something else – it is to remember them and have a sort of warm sense of gratitude and love.
“So I can now say I believe in ghosts.”
The presenter said music holds a “very particular power” in terms of being able to raise spirits – and hailed it as “very much a part of our association” with life.
Alexander was speaking about his belief in ghosts to mark Celebration Day on Monday (27.05.24) – a UK-wide event that falls on the late May Bank Holiday, and which urges people to fondly remember inspirational friends, family or influential figures who are no longer with us.
Dad-of-four Alexander, who has his sons with wife Hannah Snow, also warned humanity is becoming too squeamish about discussing death.
He said: “I try to make it something I don’t shy away from, I think partly because I recoil so much from this strangely pious Victorian thing we’ve gotten into of not really even talking about death.
“People talk about ‘passing away’, which feels so po-faced.
“There’s a sort of dishonesty there. We’ve become terrifically solipsistic over the last 30 years or so.
“Once upon a time we had a much better attitude towards death. Most people had come across it in their families, if not in their immediate families then certainly in their wider families. It was really fairly common in the generation above mine.”
