Jason Manford: Taking part in Soccer Aid is a ‘real honour’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jason Manford thinks it is a “real honour” to take part in Soccer Aid.
The 41-year-old comedian is set to turn out for the England team against a World XI at Chelsea FC’s Stamford Bridge stadium on Sunday (09.06.24) and he’s delighted to be involved with the 13th game, which raises money for UNICEF, because not only does he get to help a good cause, he also gets to feel like a professional footballer for once.
He told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “I think the tradition of it is really special. It’s been on for a long time now. It’s fun, it’s exciting and it feels like such a privilege to be able to do it.
“You get to train like a pro footballer, what an experience. Also, you know that what you’re doing is raising money for UNICEF and helping children all over the world. It’s a real honour.”
The ‘Waterloo Road’ star has been training hard and watching what he eats to be in good shape for the match.
He said: “I’ve been doing a lot of running, cycling, rowing and trying to get my stamina up.
“I am playing a lot of five-a-side as well and watching my diet. It’s such a great aim to have as well. It’s good motivation to have. Hopefully my knees and hips hold out!”
But Jason warned fans not to expect any of the silky skills some other celebrities have shown on the pitch over the years.
He added: “John Bishop was very good. He used to play football at semi-pro level as well. Mark Wright was always very good, as well as Ralph Little and Olly Murs.”
Coverage of the match will air live from 6pm on ITV1.

KSI lined up as Britain’s Got Talent judge

OHMYGOSSIP — KSI is to be a judge on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.
The YouTuber is being lined up to step in for Bruno Tonioli during some of the auditions because the 68-year-old dance expert is expected to miss some dates due to his commitments in the US on ‘Dancing with the Stars’, so show boss Simon Cowell is keen to get the 30-year-old boxer-and-rapper on board to appeal to a young audience.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Simon Cowell knows KSI is a huge hit with the younger generation.
“He would be a great addition to pull in teenage fans, which is something the producers are keen to do.
“KSI is chatting to bosses in the hope of agreeing a deal that would also work with his hectic schedule.”
‘BGT’ typically runs from April to June but filming dates are set to shift so that it can be screened in the place of hosts Ant and Dec’s other show, ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’, which came to an end earlier this year.
It was initially suggested Bruno would have to leave the show entirely because of the new filming dates, with Alan Carr tipped to replace him on the panel alongside Simon, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon.
A source told The Sun newspaper: Once it became clear auditions were starting in October, as opposed to January as per the previous 17 series, it became clear Bruno may not be able to take part.
“He’s committed to the US, but the new format for ‘BGT’ is non-negotiable because the show will effectively be replacing ‘Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway’.
“Bruno has been a real hit with his fellow judges and viewers so it would be incredibly sad to see him go.”
Alan, 47, is considered to be a strong candidate to replace Bruno on the panel.
The insider explained: “Alan Carr is a name that has been mooted – his chemistry with Amanda Holden is already a winning formula – and he would bring a fantastic comic edge to the panel.
“A decision will have to be made in the coming weeks.”

Mikaela Hoover and Christopher McDonald join Superman cast

OHMYGOSSIP — Mikaela Hoover and Christopher McDonald have joined the cast of ‘Superman’.
Director James Gunn currently has the movie – which will star David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane – in production in Atlanta, and he has been taking steps to fill out the supporting cast for the project.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Mikaela – who previously worked with the director on films including ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, ‘The Suicide Squad’ and ‘The Belko Experiment’ – will play Cat Grant, who was depicted in the comic books as a gossip columnist who has her eyes set on Clark. The character most notably appeared in CW’s ‘Supergirl’, where she was played by Calista Flockhart.
Meanwhile, screen newcomer Christopher will play Ron Troupe, one of the Daily Planet’s best reporters who, in the comic books, goes on to have a son with Lois’ sister, Lucy Lane.
Their casting comes days after it was announced former ‘Saturday Night Live’ star Beck Bennett was set to play self-serving reporter Steve Lombard.
The film, which is set for release in July 2025, is set to have a number of classic supporting ‘Superman’ characters including Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo), Eve Teschmacher (Sara Sampaio) and Daily Planet editor in chief Perry White (Wendell Pierce).
In addition, Nicholas Hoult will play villain Lex Luthor, while a number of other DC heroes will appear.
Edi Gathegi is on board as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan will play Metamorpho, Isabela Merced is Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion is to star Guy Gardner and The Engineer will be portrayed by María Gabriela de Faría.
Gunn’s ‘Superman’ will be the first solo Superman project in more than a decade following 2013’s Man of Steel.
It was originally titled ‘Superman: Legacy’ but the director announced in February that the movie, which will kick off a reboot of the DC Universe under the guidance of him and Peter Safran, would simply be called ‘Superman’.
Alongside a photo of what appeared to be a close-up of the Superman suit, he wrote on Instagram: “Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday.
“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film ‘Superman: Legacy.’ By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025.(sic)”

Sir Ian McKellen open to playing Gandalf again – if he’s still alive

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Ian McKellen is open to playing Gandalf again – if he is still “alive” when the next film is made.
The 85-year-old actor portrayed the wizard in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ and ‘Hobbit Trilogies’ and he confirmed he has heard of “stirrings in Tolkein land” following the news Sir Peter Jackson will produce and Andy Serkis will direct a new spin-off movie in 2026, ‘The Hunt for Gollum’.
But though Ian is happy to consider returning to the role again, he insisted he hasn’t been approached yet.
Noting the long white beard he is currently sporting for his stage role as Falstaff in ‘Player Kings’ he told the The Times newspaper’s Saturday Review: “And I haven’t shaved in months.
“But there is no script, there is no offer, there is no plan.”
Asked if he would be interested, he laughed: “If I’m alive.”
The veteran star admitted these days his own mortality is a huge factor in how he chooses his roles.
He said: “If you want to know that you are mortal you just have to look at your address book.
“And so when a script comes through, or the hint of an offer, you think, ‘This might be my last job. No. I’m not doing that.’
“So if Falstaff is my last job, I’d better get it right, hadn’t I?”
Peter – who directed the original ‘Lord of the Rings’ and ‘Hobbit’ movies – previously teased ‘The Hunt For Gollum’ will “delve into” parts of the title character’s backstory and other elements of his “journey” not depicted in the original films.
Speaking about the project – which will see director Andy also reprise his role as Gollum – the producer told Deadline: “The Gollum/Sméagol character has always fascinated me because Gollum reflects the worst of human nature, whilst his Sméagol side is, arguably, quite sympathetic.
“I think he connects with readers and film audiences alike, because there’s a little bit of both of them in all of us.
“We really want to explore his backstory and delve into those parts of his journey we didn’t have time to cover in the earlier films.”
Andy has been a pioneer in motion capture and voice acting since taking on the role of Gollum, and Peter insisted there was no one better to direct the upcoming film.
He explained: “Andy was a joy to work with directing Second Unit on ‘The Hobbit’.
“He has the energy and imagination and, most importantly, an inherent understanding of the world and of the story that is needed to step back into Middle-earth.
“We have collaborated on eight films together and each time it has been a fantastic experience. There’s no one on this Earth better equipped to tackle Gollum’s story than Andy.”

Harpreet Kaur and Akshay Thakrar become first Apprentice contestants to marry

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Apprentice’ stars Harpreet Kaur and Akshay Thakrar have got married.
The 2022 winner began dating her business rival when the show ended and they got engaged last May ahead of their three-day wedding ceremony earlier this month, and the couple couldn’t be happier.
Akshay, 31, told the new issue of OK! magazine: “It’s crazy – what a story that we met on the show.
“I said in my speech, ‘I think I’m the only man who can say I met my wife on The Apprentice’.”
His 32-year-old wife added: “We would love to start a family, but we’re going to wait. I want to appreciate each other and travel first.”
The couple began their celebrations with a civil ceremony at the Wentbridge House Hotel in West Yorkshire, with the dessert parlour owner donning a white dress and veil from Enzoani to exchange “simple but personal” vows.
She said: “It was beautiful, I’ve always dreamt of a white wedding dress as, being Indian, we don’t always make a fuss of that day or the legal bit.”
The pair then enjoyed a roast dinner with their guests before going their separate ways, in keeping with tradition, ahead of a Hindu ceremony at Watford’s Hare Krishna Temple.
In a nod to how they met, the ‘Apprentice’ theme tune played when the couple played a traditional game during the ceremony, where the winner is deemed the “boss” of the relationship – and in keeping with the result of the show, Harpreet won.
The third day saw the couple enjoy their wedding reception, with the bride wearing red and her husband in a suit.
Harpreet said: “It was the best party I’ve ever been to. We honestly just had the best night of our lives.”
Akshay added: “The only way I can describe our wedding is that it felt like a movie, it was amazing…
“We knew the other was The One straight away, and it’s just gone from strength to strength from the beginning.
“Actually, getting married was more of a formality since we already knew.”
While Lord Alan Sugar turned down his invitation to the wedding, Harpreet – who has bought her shares back from the tycoon – insisted there were no hard feelings, and the couple were instead joined by their fellow former contestants Kathryn Louise Burn, Brittany Carter, Akeem Bundu-Kamara and Nick Showering, as well as first ever winner Tim Campbell, who is now one of the advisors on the show.
See the full interview and pictures from the wedding in this week’s OK! magazine, out nationwide on Tuesday (11.06.24).

Toyah Willcox set for Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Toyah Willcox is set to take part in ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 66-year-old singer is said to have signed up for the upcoming season of the BBC dance contest after getting the “ballroom bug” watching her friend Angela Rippon, 79, take part last year, The Sun on Sunday newspaper reports.
The ‘Quadrophenia’ actress had recently admitted she was keen to take part but knew it would need to be sooner rather than later due to her advancing years.
The publication quoted her as saying in April about the idea of taking part: “Oh, God yeah. Well, I’d have to do it sooner rather than later, because I’m not going to be able to move like that in two years’ time.
“I do understand how hard they work. I’m friends with Angela Rippon and she was extraordinary.
“But they’re rehearsing 10 hours a day every day. And then on Saturday, they do two shows. As I went there, they invited me to watch them do the live show. Then at nine o’clock, they film the Sunday show, and I’m thinking, ‘Could I do this?’
“But, you know, the whole world wants to do ‘Strictly’, I wouldn’t say no.”
It has already been reported that blind comedian Chris McCausland is set to take part, as well as Olympic cyclist Laura Kenny, ‘Gladiators’ star Nitro and ‘Bank of Dave’s Dave Fishwick.
Nicola Roberts is also being lined up for the main show after impressing producers when she took part in the 2023 Christmas special.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Nicola is a beautiful dancer with amazing musicality. She was really impressive on the ‘Strictly’ special and her waltz was beautiful. They’d love to have Nicola back and the offer is there for her.
“She has got a jam-packed summer with Girls Aloud but Strictly think she could be amazing if she fancied a whirl.”

Body found in search for Michael Mosley

OHMYGOSSIP — The body of TV doctor Michael Mosley is believed to have been found.
The 67-year-old British medic went missing when he went for a hike along St. Nikolas beach on the Greek island of Symi on Wednesday (05.06.24) afternoon, and rescuers have now found a body by a cave complex near the sea, which local deputy mayor Nikitas Grillas has stated is that of the ‘Trust Me, I’m A Doctor’ star.
The deputy mayor told The Guardian newspaper: “He has been found in the area of Ayia Marina.
“I can confirm that it is him.”
And Symi’s mayor, Lefteris Papakalodoukas told Sky News the body – which was located around 10 metres from the sea – did not appear to show any injury. He explained he and members of the media had been in a boat on the way to search a cave when they saw something on the rocks above the beach.
They were filming as they went and when they studied the camera footage, they could see it was a body. An umbrella was found alongside the body.
Agia Marina bar manager Ilias Tsavaris, 38, was alerted to the discovery by the mayor.
He told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “They saw it with the boat. The mayor came and saw something so that is when they called me and said ‘hey they saw something go and check there’.
“They called me, they said ‘you know what we saw something from far away can you go and check’ so I went there.
“So when I walked up I saw something like a body to make sure. You don’t see a dead body every day, it is not a warzone, it’s summer you are supposed to have fun and swimming.”
A police spokesman, who spoke to the outlet on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation, said formal identification was pending.
Michael’s wife, Dr. Clare Bailey, raised the alarm at 7.30pm on Wednesday, six hours after she last saw him, when he failed to return from his walk and a huge search-and-rescue operation was launched involving police, firefighters, specially-trained dogs, a drone, and volunteers, with the group believed to be working on the theory that he may have been affected by the heat and fallen.
On Saturday (08.06.24), Clare – whose four children flew out to the island to join the search over the weekend – had vowed not to “lose hope” of finding her husband alive and well.
She said: “It has been three days since Michael left the beach to go for a walk. The longest and most unbearable days for myself and my children.
“The search is ongoing and our family are so incredibly grateful to the people of Symi, the Greek authorities and the British Consulate who are working tirelessly to help find Michael. We will not lose hope.”
The doctor and health guru was best known for popularising intermittent fasting and designing the 5:2 diet, which involves eating a significantly lower number of calories two days a week.
He made a number of documentaries about diet and exercise, including infamously living with tapeworms in his gut for six weeks for BBC Four’s ‘Infested! Living With Parasites’. He was also a columnist for the Daily Mail newspaper.
He was named medical journalist of the year by the British Medical Association in 1995.

Michael Mosley’s wife ‘devastated’ by his death

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Mosley’s wife has confirmed the “devastating” news that the TV presenter’s body has been found on the Greek island of Symi.
Dr Clare Bailey had released a statement confirming her husband’s passing, after he went missing on Wednesday (05.06.24).
She said in a statement: “I don’t know quite where to begin with this. It’s devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband. We had an incredibly lucky life together. We loved each other very much and were so happy together. I am incredibly proud of our children, their resilience and support over the past days.
“My family and I have been hugely comforted by the outpouring of love from people from around the world. It’s clear that Michael meant a huge amount to so many of you.
“We’re taking comfort in the fact that he so very nearly made it. He did an incredible climb, took the wrong route and collapsed where he couldn’t be easily seen by the extensive search team.”
Clare praised the “extraordinary people on Symi” for helping with the search and rescue operation.
Her statement continued: “Michael was an adventurous man, it’s part of what made him so special. We are so grateful to the extraordinary people on Symi who have worked tirelessly to help find him. Some of these people on the island, who hadn’t even heard of Michael, worked from dawn till dusk unasked. We’re also very grateful to the press who have dealt with us with great respect.
“I feel so lucky to have our children and my amazing friends. Most of all, I feel so lucky to have had this life with Michael.
“Thank you all.”
Mosley – who died aged 67 – went missing after he went for a hike along St. Nikolas beach. The TV doctor’s body was eventually found by a cave complex near the sea.
Nikitas Grillas, the local deputy mayor, subsequently told the Guardian newspaper: “He has been found in the area of Ayia Marina.
“I can confirm that it is him.”

Love Island’s Molly Smith and Tom Clare move in together

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island: All Stars’ winners Molly Smith and Tom Clare have moved in together.
The pair became a couple after joining the cast of the ‘Love Island’ spin-off show and they went on to win the series in February and now it’s been confirmed that Tom has moved out of his flat in London which he shared with best pal Casey O’Gorman and set up home with Molly in Manchester.
The pair were grilled about their relationship status by ‘Love Island’ host Maya Jama during Sunday night’s (09.06.24) episode of ‘After Sun’ with the presenter asking Molly, 29, and Tom, 24, whether they had managed to move in together yet. Maya said: “‘Now I have heard you are moving in together, or have moved in already?”
Tom replied: “Moved in, yeah” and Molly added: “It started off with just a drawer [at my place] and then slowly but surely there were more and more things coming in.”
Maya then asked: “Now you have moved in, is Tom messy?” and Molly replied: “No he’s actually not, yeah. He’s actually really clean.”
Molly previously revealed moving in together was on the cards because Tom kept bringing more and more of his belongings to her home.
During an appearance on Olivia Attwood’s ‘So Wrong It’s Right’ podcast, Molly said: “He lives in Battersea but he’s moving out. So poor Casey’s probably thinking, Oh great. I’m stealing him. But he’s moving in with me in Manchester.
“So I know people probably think like, ‘Oh it’s quite quick’, but we’ve practically lived together from the day we’ve met, and he’s practically living at mine now. Slowly but surely there’s been drawers getting filled up.”
Olivia asked: “So he’s been moving himself in unofficially?” and Molly replied: “Yeah, his had his little plan all along.”
Molly previously lived with another ‘Love Island’ boyfriend – Callum Jones – who she met on a previous series of the show. They were together for three years before splitting September and then they were reunited when they were both cast in the ‘All Stars’ season this year.
Molly ended up with Tom while Callum coupled up with Jess Gale, but they split just weeks after the TV show wrapped.

Chris Packham urges Taylor Swift fans to protest against her private jet usage

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Packham has urged Taylor Swift fans to protest against the singer’s use of private jets.
The pop star sensation, 34, is currently embarking on the UK leg of her ‘Eras Tour’, and the 63-year-old environmentalist has now called on Swifties to bring banners that shame Taylor for travelling the world in her jet-for-one.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, he said: “I think Taylor Swift has enormous power. She’s speaking to an audience which will have significant problems in their lives due to climate breakdown and biodiversity loss.
“And she ought to be at the forefront of trying to help their future to become more secure and sustainable. What a missed opportunity.
“You should actually say, ‘Do you know what, thank you for pointing that out. I’m going to switch to flying on commercial airliners’.
“We all accept she has to travel the globe – we’re not saying stop touring. We’re saying do it in the most environmentally friendly way that you possibly can.
“Wouldn’t it be great if all those 16-year-olds turned up at the concert with banners saying, ‘Drop your private jets’?”
The ‘Springwatch’ presenter isn’t the only person who hit out against ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ hitmaker for not flying commercially, as programmer Jack Sweeney had publicly tracked Taylor and her travel habits on social media .
After he calculated and shared the singer had flown 178,000 miles privately last year, Taylor’s team sent Jack a cease-and-desist letter.
Reflecting on the situation, Chris lamented over the chart-topper’s threats to sue the entrepreneur, and labelled her use of private jets “absurd”.
He said: “We know that private jets are the single greatest contributor when it comes to jet aviation fuel and the least efficient because they’re carrying one person. And so he called her out and she threatened to sue him.
“And I just thought, ‘You really missed the trick there, Taylor.’
“What you should have said is, ‘You’re right, times have moved on. I’ve got to change my practice. I’m going to sell my private jets’.
“And that would have been such a powerful thing for her to say to an audience. And I mean, her audience is primarily a young audience, isn’t it?
“I mean, you can’t say she’s responsible for climate breakdown. But she’s an icon. And as a consequence of that, she should be leading.”

This Morning legend Richard Madeley explains why he ‘doesn’t feel’ like a television star

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Madeley “doesn’t feel like” a television star.
The 68-year-old presenter became a household name alongside his wife Judy Finnigan, 76, when they began fronting ‘This Morning’ in 1989 and now he hosts ITV’s breakfast show ‘Good Morning Britain’ on a rotational basis but admitted that at heart he is still the reporter who started off in local newspapers almost 50 yeas ago.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, he said: “I’m naturally curious as a person. People would define me as ‘that bloke off the telly’, a TV presenter, but I don’t actually feel like that. I still feel like I did when I started. I’m a reporter. That’s basically what I am, I started off on local newspapers, regional television as a reporter for 20 years and then Judy and I drifted into ‘This Morning’ and things softened a bit. Here, I’m still a hack and that’s why I love doing ‘GMB’ because it’s straight news. And I really enjoy working with the team that produces straight news, breaking stories and all that. I’ve never lost my enthusiasm for that.”
Meanwhile, the former ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ contestant has penned ‘Father’s Day’ – a thriller novel that follows a man who has to bring up his daughter alone after his wife’s tragic death – and explained that he was inspired to write the book after feeling a certain contempt towards perpetrators of crimes in real life.
He said: “I am completely against the death penalty, I hope it’s never brought back and I’m sure it never will be. And if there was a vote on it, my X in the ‘No’ box would go through the paper.
“Having said that, we all watch the news and read the papers when there’s been a horrible, sadistic crime that is cruel and utterly selfish where someone’s life has been taken for the pleasure of the killer.
“The damage that does to the dead person’s family is so horrendous that you’re looking at the telly thinking ‘Hanging is too good for you’, although you don’t mean it but it’s there in the gut. Somewhere in our more primitive brain, we want revenge.”
