Dakota Johnson balanced acting and producing roles on Daddio

OHMYGOSSIP — Dakota Johnson enjoyed the “natural” feeling of acting and producing ‘Daddio’.
The 34-year-old actress appears opposite Sean Penn in the movie about “life-altering conversations” between a taxi driver and his passenger and felt comfortable juggling responsibilities both in front of and behind the camera.
Dakota told The Hollywood Reporter at the movie’s Tribeca Film Festival premiere on Monday (10.06.24): “It was amazing. There was such a flow to everything on set, and it just felt very natural and very inspiring to be able to be an equal with everyone that I was working with.”
The picture has been written and directed by Christy Hall and she also hailed Dakota for her work on the movie, revealing that she was pivotal to getting Penn on board.
The filmmaker said: “She wears both hats so beautifully. It was incredible.
“She’s actually the one that slipped the script to Sean Penn, and he read right away and said that he would love to do it. So honestly, working with both of them, they’re both masters of their craft, and it’s been one of the greatest gifts of my life.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Madame Web’ star’s TeaTime Pictures producing partner Ro Donelly explained that it was a challenge to make a flick that is set almost entirely with just two people in a cab.
She said: “It felt like a bit of an impossible film. It’s just a story about two people who connect deeply as human beings without judgement, and we just don’t get to see that anymore. We were making the anti-blockbuster.”

Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers receives ‘freedom of Barrow’ after his death

OHMYGOSSIP — Dave Myers has been posthumously given the freedom of his hometown.
The late ‘Hairy Bikers’ star – who was from Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria – died in February aged 66 after a battle with cancer, and now Barrow Town Council has honoured one of their own.
On the scroll, they wrote: “We the Council posthumously grant the highest honour we can bestow to David, and is given in recognition of his service to the Barrow Community and the promotion of Civic Pride.
“We loudly applaud your valuable and sterling service whilst thanking you most sincerely.”
The award was presented to his widow Lili, who admitted she “wasn’t expecting it at all”.
She added to BBC Radio Cumbria: “I feel this is such a huge honour… what a proud moment.”
The recognition comes days after it’s estimated 20,000 people from across the UK celebrated ‘Dave Day’ in memory of the late star.
On Saturday (08.06.24), Lili and Myers’ co-star and friend Si King led thousands of bikers on a 36-mile long procession from London to Barrow-in-Furness.
In the town, there were hundreds of people waiting to greet the bikers at the Town Hall.
Lili – who married Myers in 2011 – said at the event: “Dave was always a Barrovian through and through.
“He wanted to put Barrow on the map and from beyond the grave, he has done it.”
She recently opened up about her late husband’s death for the first time earlier this month, and revealed she still feels his presence “everywhere”.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, she said: “Everybody who loses somebody in their lives misses them but there’s a different layer because if I turn on the TV, he might be on. There are cookbooks in the house everywhere. He is everywhere. It just transpires and rolls on into this beautiful thing.”

Claire Sweeney felt ‘nervous’ acting with William Roache

OHMYGOSSIP — Claire Sweeney felt “nervous” about acting alongside ‘Coronation Street’ veteran William Roache.
The 53-year-old actress joined the cast of the ITV soap last year as homeless drug addict Cassie Plummer, who becomes a carer for Roache’s character Ken Barlow – and Claire admits she felt overwhelmed when she realised she would have so many scenes with the Weatherfield regular.
She told OK! magazine: “I was very ensconced in the Dobbs’ house with Maureen Lipman and Alan Halsall and then suddenly I heard whispers that I had a storyline with Bill [Roache’s].
“My first day of filming, I just said to him, ‘Look, I’m nervous,’ and he was so kind and warm. I feel so honoured – I’ve only been here a year and I’m so lucky to have this storyline.”
After a rocky start, the characters start to bond and Claire was delighted to film a sweet scene with her co-star. She added: “There’s a lovely scene with him where she says, ‘Look, sometimes you’ve got to allow yourself to be helped.’
“Over lunch they laugh together and you can see that they are good company for each other. She has put a little spring in his step and suddenly she feels useful and appreciated. So it’s worked for both of them.”
However, Claire still dreams of landing a big ‘Corrie’ fight scene. She explained: “I would love to have a scrap on the cobbles! One of my favourite ‘Corrie’ scenes is when Eileen and Gail had a fight and so I’d love to have a little scrap. Those scenes are iconic.”
It comes after Claire recently revealed she’s put pen to paper to sign a new one-year deal to stay on the show.
She told Cheshire Life magazine: “I’ve just signed my contract for another year in ‘Corrie’, and I’m really happy to fully invest all my time and energy into Cassie and see what develops.”

Patsy Field and Munveer Jabbal dumped from Love Island

OHMYGOSSIP — Patsy Field and Munveer Jabbal have left the ‘Love Island’ villa.
The 29-year-old office administrator and the 30-year-old recruitment manager have both left the ITV show in a shock double dumping.
Patsy and Munveer exited the show after failing to convince the public and the other Islanders that they had a long-term future.
The duo were ultimately sent home by the other Islanders, after Patsy and Munveer found themselves in the bottom three of the public vote.
Before entering the villa, Munveer revealed that he was looking forward to meeting new people on the show and taking “the next step” in his love life.
He said at the time: “The opportunity to be surrounded by good-looking people in a villa under the sun is an absolute no-brainer!
“I’m 30 years old, and I need to start thinking seriously about the next step, and what better place?!”
Despite this, the reality star confessed to being “quite picky” about who he dates.
He said: “I haven’t found the right girl.
“I’m quite picky and have high standards.
“Dating in London is horrible. You don’t know who’s single … but now you’re putting me in a place where everyone’s single, so there’s no issues around that.”
Elsewhere, Patsy also confessed to being “picky”.
However, she was hopeful of finding her dream guy in the villa, acknowledging that “now is the right time” for her to appear on ‘Love Island’.
She said: “‘Love Island’ may just have some nice hunky guys for me.
“I think now is the right time as I’ve got a few greys, so I need to bag a man sooner rather than later.”

This Morning host Alison Hammond ‘offered new travel show by BBC’

OHMYGOSSIP — Alison Hammond is wanted by the BBC to host a new travel show.
The ‘This Morning’ presenter – who was a holiday rep before she shot to fame on ‘Big Brother’ in 2002 – is said to have been offered the chance to front ‘Florida Unpacked’, which will explore the Sunshine State.
A TV insider told The Sun newspaper: “This is a continuing nightmare for ITV as Alison is seen by them as one of their biggest stars – but she’s increasingly working for their rivals.”
It’s thought BBC bosses could even air the programme in the same slot as ITV brunchtime show ‘This Morning’.
The insider added: “The travel show is the latest tempting offer she’s taken up with BBC execs revelling in the fact they can put it head-to-head with ‘This Morning’.
“It could lead to the situation where Alison can be seen hosting the daytime magazine show on ITV while simultaneously being seen over on BBC One.”
Filming for the first run of the series is due to start next month.
It comes after Alison confirmed in April she is to host a brand-new show for the BBC, titled ‘Alison Hammond’s Big Weekend’.
In the six-part programme, the ‘For the Love of Dogs’ star – who also recently joined ‘The Great British Bake Off’ as a presenter – will spend the weekend with celebrities in their homes to get to know what makes them tick.
She said: “I’m so excited to serve up some big lols and tons of OMG revelations on the BBC as I spend some quality time with some of the UK’s favourite celebrities. When I’m on a mission no secret is safe, and trust me no stone or cupboard will go unturned!”
Details of which celebrities are to take part will be announced at a later date, but BBC bosses have teased a host of “big names” are set to sign up.
Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment at the BBC said: “Alison is one of the most warm-hearted presenters in the UK.
“It’s no surprise that big name celebrities are lining up to have her spend the weekend at their homes. It’s going to be a blast!”

And Away! Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse sign up for eighth series of Gone Fishing

OHMYGOSSIP — Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse are going “back in time” with the next series of ‘Gone Fishing’.
The comedians are set to return for an eighth series of their beloved BBC show but the run of six episodes will be more personal than ever before because each of the locations have been chosen because they hold special connections to one of the two stars’ lives over the years.
Bob, 65, said: “I’m looking forward to visiting old haunts from my younger years as Paul and I will be travelling back in time for this series, going to fish in places which shaped our lives.”
Paul, 66, added: “I can’t wait to get back to ‘Gone Fishing’ with that other bloke in tow.”
As always, Patterdale Terrier Ted will also be on hand to cause chaos with the pair’s fishing plans.
BBC Commissioning Editor Patrick McMahon said: “We’re so happy to welcome Paul and Bob back for another slice of fishing, friendship and riverbank philosophy.
“Following their adventures and spending time in their company is always a treat, and this series promises to be the most personal and pleasurable yet.”
Executive Producer Lisa Clark added: “I’m so delighted we can continue to showcase our beautiful country in the company of Paul, Bob and Ted of course.
“There’s so much more to explore for both man and beast with plenty of muck for Ted to roll in and Bob to fall over, while Paul quietly concentrates on the fishing in hand.”
The seventh series of the show is due to air later this year, with Bob and Paul set to visit the lakes, rivers and canals of places including Bedfordshire, North Norfolk and Northern Ireland.

Blade searching for third new director as Yann Demange departs

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Blade’ is searching for another new director, after Yann Demange departed the movie.
The French-Algerian filmmaker is said to have withdrawn from the project “a while ago” in what was an “entirely amicable” exit, and it makes him the second director to depart the motion picture after he had previously replaced Bassam Tariq.
According to The Wrap, Eric Pearson – who co-wrote ‘The Fantastic Four’ – is now working on the script for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) blockbuster, after Michael Starrbury, Nic Pizzolatto and Michael Green had penned on previous drafts.
‘Blade’ has been stuck in development purgatory since it was first announced in 2019, but Mahershala Ali is still expected to portray the half-human vampire hunter.
Tariq previously exited the movie due to changes in the “production schedule”.
A Marvel statement read: “Due to continued shifts in our production schedule, Bassam is no longer moving forward as director of ‘Blade’ but will remain an executive producer on the film.
“We appreciate Bassam’s talent and all the work he’s done getting ‘Blade’ to where it is.”
Ali is said to have had a hand in picking Demange as the new director.
The movie was then delayed due to the Hollywood writers’ strike in May 2023, and it is yet to go into production.
While Marvel still has a November 7, 2025, release date in line for the motion picture, the studio isn’t expected to rush the movie.
Plot details are yet to have been revealed, but it was previously said the plan was for the film to be dark and gritty in tone and have similarities to the trilogy that saw Wesley Snipes play the human-vampire hybrid character between 1998 and 2004.

Jude Law had ‘flirtation’ with playing Superman

OHMYGOSSIP — Jude Law had a “flirtation” with playing Superman.
The 51-year-old actor confirmed he was in the running to portray Clark Kent and his alter ego in the early 2000s for the ultimately-scrapped J.J. Abrams-penned movie called ‘Superman: Flyby’, but he felt the project was a “step to far” for him.
Speaking in an upcoming episode of The Playlist’s The Discourse podcast, Jude said when asked about rumours he was up for Superman: “So this is true. Yeah. And there was a process of flirtation going on.
“And I always resisted because it just felt like [off]. And I know you can say, ‘Well, but you played Yonn-Rogg and Dumbledore!’ It just felt like a step too far.
“And it was when Brett Ratner was going to direct, I think.”
Jude even tried on the character’s iconic suit in a bid to “change [his] mind” but he couldn’t “sell” himself into the role.
He said: “And they didn’t have a script, if I remember rightly. Did they have a script? I don’t remember reading one. This is a long time ago. They brought me the suit. They thought, ‘This might change your mind.’
“it wasn’t the Reeve suit. It was a kind of like it was more metallic.
“Anyway, I tried on and I looked in the mirror and part of me initially was like, ‘Wow, this would be a [good thing],’ and then I just thought, ‘No, you can’t – you can’t do this. You can’t.’ And I didn’t sell myself to myself. And I stepped away and the film never happened anyway. So maybe it probably wouldn’t have done anything.”
Jude’s comments come after Matt Bomer recently claimed he was also in the running for the lead role in ‘Superman: Flyby’ but got dropped because of his sexuality.
Speaking on The Hollywood Reporter’s ‘Awards Chatter’ podcast, he said: “I went in on a cattle call for ‘Superman’, and then it turned into a one-month audition experience where I was auditioning again and again and again.
“It looked like I was the director’s choice for the role. I signed a three-picture deal at Warner Bros..
“This is a very early iteration of ‘Superman’ written by J.J. Abrams, called ‘Superman: Flyby’, I think is what it was called, and it never came to light.”
Matt – who only came out publicly in 2012, a year after he got married to Simon Halls – was then asked if his sexuality was a factor behind him not getting the job and he replied: “Yeah, that’s my understanding. That was a time in the industry when something like that could still really be weaponised against you.
“How, and why, and who [outed me], I don’t know, but yeah, that’s my understanding.”

Nicola Roberts eyed for Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicola Roberts is being eyed for the upcoming season of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The Girls Aloud singer impressed producers when she took to the floor with Giovanni Pernice for the show’s Christmas special last year, and though she was beaten to the festive glitterball trophy by ‘EastEnders’ star Jamie Borthwick, she could get a second chance at a prize by taking part in the main programme.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Nicola is a beautiful dancer with amazing musicality. She was really impressive on the ‘Strictly’ special and her waltz was beautiful. They’d love to have Nicola back and the offer is there for her.
“She has got a jam-packed summer with Girls Aloud but Strictly think she could be amazing if she fancied a whirl.”
The ‘Promise’ singer previously admitted she’d had a great time on the Christmas special.
She said: “I said I wanted fun and it has been fun.”
The 38-year-old star had admitted ahead of the show she hadn’t realised just how much “pain” and “pressure” was involved with training for the programme.
Speaking on ‘The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show’ on Radio 2, she said: “It’s so interesting, I was in a meeting that morning and I woke up that day and thought ‘I want to do something really fun. What do adults do these days for fun that doesn’t involve partying?’ and I left the meeting and the call came in!
“I’m going to be doing the Waltz but I’ve never done ballroom dancing. It’s very technical which I’ve struggled with a little bit and I have to say I have newfound respect for all the celebrities that do this season in, season out. It doesn’t translate on a Saturday doing their dance. You don’t see the pain. And even in their VTs, the emotional side of it, the pressure that you put on yourself, the hours.
A ‘Strictly’ spokesman refused to be drawn on the report.
They simply said: “We do not comment on speculation.”

Jay Blades ‘set to front Repair Shop spin-off show’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jay Blades is reportedly set to front a ‘Repair Shop’ spin-off show.
The TV host, 54, was left out of filming of the start of the upcoming series of the repair series after he was left reeling by the killing of his uncle Richard Brathwaite, 72, a week before his fitness instructor wife Lisa Zbozen, 43, announced the end of their short-lived marriage.
But the BBC is said to be backing the presenter after apparently green lighting ‘The Repair Shop on the Road’ show series, which will travel across Britain to revive guests’ broken treasures.
A TV insider told The Sun: “This is a great vote of confidence in ‘The Repair Shop’ presenter, even if it does see the limelight shift from him somewhat in this spin-off.
“It’s also another sign of just how successful the show has become in the seven years it’s been on our screens.”
The Sun added the show – which is expected to start filming later this year – will put “less emphasis on frontman Jay”, and “more on the supporting team of restorers” from the ‘The Repair Shop’ team.
‘The Repair Shop’ launched in 2017 and is filmed at the Weald and Downland Living Museum in West Sussex.
The show has spawned several specials, including a festive show, and it has been parodied on Comic Relief.
In 2022, King Charles, 75, made an appearance on the show, bringing in a clock that required restoration.
At the end of May, Jay cancelled a planned festival appearance in the wake of his uncle’s murder and marriage collapse.
His appearance at the Hay literary festival on 30 May was axed as he continues to take time out after the traumas of his uncle’s killing and marriage split.
A statement from Jay’s team said: “We wanted to confirm that as Jay Blades continues to take time out, he won’t be attending the session as advertised at this year’s Hay Festival.
“We’re sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment that this may have caused and we hope you enjoy the rest of the festival.”
Jay had been due to speak to journalist Sarfraz Manzoor, 52, at the Hay event in Wales about his book ‘Life Lessons: Wisdom and Wit from Life’s Ups and Downs’, which is filled with his inspirational tales about making the best of life.
Jay said in May he would be taking a break from social media after the death of his uncle, which was followed by Jay’s wife Lisa announcing the end of their brief marriage.
Jay’s uncle Richard was stabbed to death on a quiet north London street in March, with the Old Bailey hearing it followed a “long-running” neighbour dispute.
The host got married to Lisa at a beachfront villa in Barbados in November 2022, and she said when she walked out on their 18-month marriage it had “just got worse and worse”, until she “grabbed a bag of a few things and I left”.
Lisa added in an emotional social media post on 2 May: “I have been quiet until now, but the papers seem to be picking up this story, but some parts have been definitely missed, so it’s forced my hand… this was the whole post on a private forum: I don’t know how to say this because it’s still really raw.
“I probably should be really angry but I’m just incredibly sad about the whole thing right now. I don’t think I’ve ever cried so much.
“I wanted my husband to love me and keep me safe, and I would love him right back, but it just got worse and worse, until I grabbed a bag of a few things and I just left.”

‘One of the most incredible action sequences of all time’: Glen Powell teases Twisters

OHMYGOSSIP — Glen Powell has promised ‘Twisters’ features “one of the most incredible action sequences of all time”.
The ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ actor teased the storm footage in the upcoming blockbuster “all happens in a oner” and he was “hit by debris” and got soaked through when he had to go and film the scene with the stunt cast.
Speaking in the ‘Fandango’s Big Ticket’ interview, he said: “We shot that in December, with a rain machine. One of the coldest nights I’ve ever experienced, getting dragged across a pool by a wire. I think it was the most physical thing that I’ve ever done.
“You’re talking about humans getting sucked up into a tornado. But you’re recreating what it’s like to be getting hit by debris and all that stuff. So you’re watching real stuntmen getting sucked up into the sky, you’re watching trucks move across [the field], you’re jumping into a pool and you’re getting dragged.”
Glenn admitted shooting the sequence was a “fully physical experience”.
He said: “It’s a fully physical experience because the investment as an actor that you have to have is like, it can’t be delicate.
“It can’t be tender. Tornadoes aren’t tender. You have to put your body on the line in order to sell that experience.”
Director Lee Isaac Chung recently admitted he had “pelted” the cast – which also includes Daisy Edgar-Jones – of the movie to “everything”.
He told Empire magazine: “This is an elemental story, so I wanted us to go as practical as possible.
“We really tore things up. We had jet engines blowing. We had fans so massive you’d lose your hearing without earplugs. We were pelting our cast with everything – dirt, wind, ice.”
Chung also explained that the picture – which is a sequel to 1996’s ‘Twister’ – was shot during tornado season in Oklahoma which increased the complexity of the production.
The ‘Minari’ filmmaker said: “It was tough. The unpredictability of the weather caused a lot of issues and delays.
“It was my choice to do this in tornado season, but honestly, I still can’t believe we actually did it.”

‘Run Lola Run’ actress Franka Potente was smoking two packs of cigarettes a day when shooting iconic ’90s film

OHMYGOSSIP — Franka Potente was smoking two packs of cigarettes a day when she shot ‘Run Lola Run’.
The German actress, 49, shot to fame playing Lola in the 1998 thriller who sprints around the streets trying to raise 100,000 Deuthschmarks in 20 minutes to save the life of her boyfriend.
She has now told Variety about how she wasn’t in shape while filming its gruelling running scenes: “I didn’t do any preparation really. I was probably smoking two packs of cigarettes a day at that point.
“And I was doing all this running – I was running in rehearsals, I was running when we shot all the different takes, and I would run again so we could get the sound right. I was carried along by all this energy.”
Even though Franka could wear trainers in shots in ‘Run Lola Run’ where her feet weren’t in the frame, she stuck to Lola’s signature Dr Martens.
She added: “It took five minutes to change shoes, and there wasn’t time.
“They’re good shoes for utility work, but running in them took double the energy.”
Franka also famously had her hair dyed bright red for the role – which she said was also a brutal process.
She added: “My hair had been jet-black from my previous job, so they bleached it eight times.
“For Lola, we tried all these different colours before they found this red dye that came from London.
“But it would wash out, so I couldn’t wash my hair during the production because it would mess up the continuity.”
‘Run Lola Run’ featured Franka racing against the clock to help her boyfriend replace a drug dealer’s bag of money he lost.
It broke new ground in the late-’90s as Lola was a feminist action hero in a genre dominated by men.
Franka said about the movie’s progresiveness: “I’ve never had to play the damsel in distress, but Lola was a powerful movement forward.
“There was a level of female fury that I enjoyed getting to play.”
‘Run Lola Run’ is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a theatrical re-release on Friday (07.06.24), and Franka said about its enduring appeal: “It sucks you in right from the beginning. The movie starts, and you’re stressed out.
“And now that I’ve made more films and even directed one myself, I know that’s a hard feeling to generate.
“There’s no algorithm where you put this music on and cut things fast, and that’s it.
“Everything has to come together perfectly, and on ‘Lola’ it did.”

Wallace and Gromit to return to screens over Christmas for a brand new adventure

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Wallace and Gromit’ will be back on television at Christmas.
The stop-motion series – which was first aired in 1989 as ‘A Grand Day Out’ and follows the adventures of an inventor and his highly-skilled dog – has not been on screen for a new adventure since ‘A Matter of Loaf and Deat’ in 2008 but it has now been confirmed that ‘Vengeance Most Fowl’ will air on BBC One over the coming festive period.
The new special will see the return of villainous penguin Feathers McGraw – who was imprisoned in a zoo after the duo foiled his plan to rob a museum in ‘The Wrong Trousers’ – and creator Nick Park admitted he hadn’t really thought of a comeback for the character until he came up with the concept of Wallace developing a “smart gnome”.
He said: “Then it hit me: What if Feathers was involved with these gnomes? We’re hoping that this film will appeal to fans of ‘Gnome Noir’ everywhere.”
In the trailer, Feathers is McGraw seen leaving a prison cell having been presented with his possessions – including the red rubber glove he used in the 1993 film to disguise himself as a chicken before revealing his true nature.
Following this, the character was mentioned in the 1995 film ‘A Close Shave’ when his name is seen scrawled on a prison cell wall but the antagonist has not actually appeared in any other films in the series.
Ben Whitehead will return as the voice of Wallace, having taken over from the ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ star Peter Sallis – who died in 2017 at the age of 96 – for the last short, while comedian Peter Kay will again voice the character of PC Mackintosh after initially playing him in the 2005 film ‘The Curse of the Were-Rabbit’.
‘League of Gentleman’ star Reece Shearsmith has also joined the cast, along with ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’ actress Lauren Patel.
Celebrity cameos will include ‘Mandy’ star Diane Morgan, ‘Bridgerton’ actress Adjoa Andoh and comedian Sir Lenny Henry.

New Hunger Games prequel is in development

OHMYGOSSIP — A new ‘Hunger Games’ prequel is in the works.
The sixth movie in the dystopian franchise will be titled ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ and is slated for release in November 2026.
The movie is based on Suzanne Collins’ novel of the same name that will be published in March 2025.
Francis Lawrence is once again in talks to direct while producer Nina Jacobson is returning to work on the new film with producing partner Brad Simpson for their Colour Force banner.
‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ will be set 24 years before the trio of Jennifer Lawrence movies in the world of Panem and takes place on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games – also known as the Second Quarter Quell.
Collins said in a statement: “With ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’, I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, ‘the easiness with which the many are governed by the few’.
“The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question ‘Real or not real?’ seems more pressing to me every day.”
The author added: “From the beginning, Lionsgate has been a wonderful home and partner for the ‘Hunger Games’ franchise, and I’m very excited to be collaborating with Adam and the team as we bring this next story to theatres in 2026.”
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Adam Fogelson said: “Suzanne Collins is a master storyteller and our creative north star. We couldn’t be more fortunate than to be guided and trusted by a collaborator whose talent and imagination are so consistently brilliant.
“We know ‘Hunger Games’ fans worldwide will be spellbound by where Suzanne has focused this next extraordinary story.
“The Second Quarter Quell is legendary and looms large over the history of the Games, even into the time of Katniss Everdeen a quarter-century later. Like fans around the globe, we are eagerly anticipating this exciting return to Panem.”

Jessica Gunning and Nicola Coughlan added to The Magic Faraway Tree cast

OHMYGOSSIP — Jessica Gunning and Nicola Coughlan have joined the cast of ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’.
The stars of ‘Baby Reindeer’ and ‘Bridgerton’ respectively are to feature in an all-star ensemble of the new film that is based on the novels by Enid Blyton.
‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ tells the story of how Polly (Claire Foy) and Tim Thompson (Andrew Garfield) and their children Beth, Joe and Fran find themselves forced to locate to the English countryside where “they discover a magical tree and its extraordinary and eccentric occupants”.
Coughlan and Gunning will star as Silky and Dame Washalot – two inhabitants of the tree that can transport visitors to fantasy far-off lands.
Sir Lenny Henry, Sir Michael Palin and Simon Russell Beale have also been cast and are to play “a trio of mystical wise men from the Land of Know-Alls”.
The movie is being directed by Ben Gregor and has been adapted for the big screen by ‘Wonka’ scribe Simon Farnaby.
Production is due to begin later this month in the UK.
Danny Perkins, the CEO of Elysian Film Group, said: “Attracting such talented high-profile individuals to this project is testament to the power of Blyton’s enduring legacy and the continued commerciality of her storytelling. Her work continues to inspire and enchant audiences of all ages, across the world.
“‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ is one of her most timeless, cherished by generations, and we are honoured to be bringing her magical world to life with such a fantastic cast.”
