Loose Women’s Linda Robson racked up 3k worth of parking ticket fines

OHMYGOSSIP — Linda Robson racked up £3,000 worth of parking tickets.
The ‘Loose Women’ panellist, 66, admitted she had been fined several times because she felt her “national treasure” status allowed her to park “anywhere [she] likes”.
During an appearance on ‘Good Morning Britain’, she told hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls: “I’ve just paid £3,000 worth of parking tickets.”
Linda then revealed her children – including daughter Lauren, who she has with ex Tony Tyler, and her two children Louis and Roberta, who she has with her former husband Mark Dunford – had taken her car keys away from her due to her poor parking.
She said: “They’ve taken my car keys off of me, my kids, they’re taking control of my money and my car. So I’m not allowed to drive anymore because I just go, ‘Well, I’m a national treasure – I can park wherever I like.’ ”
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!’ star also conceded she receives “pocket money” twice a week, because she “can’t be trusted” to spend responsibly.
She admitted: “I get pocket money on a Monday and a Friday because I can’t be trusted with my money either!”
When asked what she spent her money on, Linda said “expensive candles” and “treating her family” took up the bulk of her expenditure.
She said: “I like candles, so I buy expensive candles. And I like treating my family, my kids and my sisters.”
What’s more, the ‘Birds of a Feather’ star shocked viewers after she revealed former ‘EastEnders’ actor Joe Swash lost his virginity in her house.
She explained: “Joe lived, like, opposite me. Joe actually lost his virginity in my house!”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Mr Bates vs The Post Office’ and ‘Happy Valley’ will do battle at the upcoming TRIC Awards.
The ITV show will go up against a hat-trick of BBC series, ‘Happy Valley’, ‘Death in Paradise’ and ‘Kin’, in the Drama category at the upcoming TRIC (The Television and Radio Industries Club) Awards.
‘Mr Bates vs The Post Office’, which starred the likes of Toby Jones and Monica Dolan, followed the Post Office scandal which saw hundreds of sub-postmasters wrongly convicted due to the faulty IT system Horizon.
As well as the drama being up for an award, ‘Mr Bates vs The Post Office – The Real Story’ is also on the shortlist for the Factual prize, alongside ‘Martin Lewis Money Show Live’, ‘Planet Earth III’ and ‘The Repair Shop’.
What’s more, Ant and Dec have a nod in the TV Personality category, but will face stiff competition from the likes of Bradley Walsh, Martin Lewis, and Piers Morgan.
Former ‘Good Morning Britain’ co-host Piers’ grilling of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on his ‘Piers Morgan Uncensored’ show is also up for an accolade in the Interview of the Year category.
Others in contention are Alastair Stewart revealing his heartbreaking diagnosis to Camilla Tominey, Louis Theroux interviewing Dame Joan Collins, and Ken Bruce’s chat with Noel Gallagher.
What’s more, BBC series ‘Race Across The World’ will be hoping to win the quest for the Entertainment prize, ahead of ‘Gogglebox’, ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’, and ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
And ‘The Traitors’ – which returned for a second series earlier this year – is up for the Game Show gong.
But the thrilling Claudia Winkleman-fronted programme will have to outdo ‘1 Per Cent Club’, ‘The Chase’, and ‘Dragons’ Den’.
The TRIC Awards ceremony – which is in its 55th year – will take place in London on June 25th, hosted by Roman Kemp.

Diane Kruger and Jo Joyner to star in new drama

OHMYGOSSIP — Diane Kruger and Jo Joyner are to star in new Paramount+ drama ‘Little Disasters’.
The upcoming series – which will be adapting Sarah Vaughan’s 2020 novel of the same name – follows expectant mothers Jess (Diane) Liz (Jo), Charlotte (Shelley Conn) and Mel (Emily Taaffe), who have little in common “apart from their due dates”.
After doctor Liz is forced to decide whether to call social services on her long-time pal Jess, their family lives and friendship begin to unravel once the truth is unmasked.
Diane, 47, said: “I think this series will offer a relatable story which examines the crippling judgement levied upon mothers by society.
“The story so wonderfully explores the fragility of reputation, with the rapid unravelling of Jess’ seemingly perfect life.
“I can’t wait to begin developing Jess’s character and explore the challenges of motherhood through her eyes.”
The actresses will appear alongside ‘The Peripheral’ star JJ Feild – who will play family man Ed – and ‘Star Wars: Andor’ actor Ben Bailey Smith, who has been cast as Liz’s husband Nick.
Jo, 47, is “really looking forward” to working with the cast.
She said: “We meet Liz at a moment when she has to make an impossible choice between her duty as a doctor and loyalty to her friend. I’m really looking forward to working alongside this great cast and to start exploring the impact of Liz’s decision.”
Sarah’s story – which is being produced by Roughcut Television – will be adapted for the screen by writers Ruth Fowler and Amanda Duke, while Ash Atalla, Alex Smith and Marianna Abbotts are to executive produce.
Reflecting on the upcoming series, Marianna said: “We are so excited to bring Sarah Vaughan’s gripping and thought-provoking novel, ‘Little Disasters’, to the screen.
“Ruth Fowler and Amanda Duke’s brilliant scripts stay true to the themes in the book and shine a light on the dark reaches and intense love of motherhood. We are thrilled that such incredible acting talent, Diane Kruger and Jo Joyner, will be bringing Jess and Liz to life.”
The production of ‘Little Disasters’ has commenced, and the series will be available exclusively on Paramount+ in the UK and Ireland.

‘I’m slightly uncomfortable’: Russell Crowe has reservations about Gladiator 2

OHMYGOSSIP — Russell Crowe is “slightly uncomfortable” that ‘Gladiator 2’ is being made.
The 60-year-old star played Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius in Sir Ridley Scott’s original historical epic and admits that it is disconcerting to see the story revisited with Paul Mescal in the lead role.
Speaking on the Kyle Meredith With… podcast, Russell said: “I’m slightly uncomfortable with the fact they’re making another one – because, of course, I’m dead and I have no say in what gets done.
“But a couple of things I’ve heard I’m like, ‘No, no, no, that’s not in the moral journey of that particular character.’ But I can’t say anything, it’s not my place, I’m six foot under. So we’ll see what that is like.”
Crowe won the Best Actor Oscar for his work on ‘Gladiator’ and admits that seeing the sequel – which is set to be released later this year – brings on feelings of “melancholy” and “jealousy” because of the influence the movie had on his career.
He said: “I reflect back: the age I was when I made that film and all the things that came after it, the doors that particular movie opened for me. This is just me being purely honest: there’s definitely a tinge of melancholy, a tinge of jealousy. I remember when I had tendons.”
Mescal plays the role of Lucius – who is believed to be the nephew of Joaquin Phoenix’s alter ego Commodus – and revealed last year that he was feeling the pressure of taking on such an important job after the immense success of the first movie.
The ‘Normal People’ star told Esquire magazine: “I can’t tell you how stressed I am talking about that film in particular, because it’s definitely the biggest one I’ve done. I feel really excited, but, like, it’s difficult to get away from the legacy of the film a bit. I think it’s really well written and it pays homage to the first one, but it’s very much something that I think I can step into and make comfortably my own.”

Josh Hartnett relishes ‘experimentation’ in his acting work

OHMYGOSSIP — Josh Hartnett is determined to experiment with his film work.
The 45-year-old actor has shown a preference for starring in indie films during his career and explained that it comes from a desire to collaborate with those who he regards as “artists”.
Speaking to Variety, Josh said: “I love experimentation in film. And these guys are still at the very top of their game in experimenting in film.
“I’ve never been anti (mainstream films); I was just anti-paint by numbers. I want to work with people who are, for lack of a better term, artists.
“I’ve always been able to do that, luckily, but some of those films were not received by the public the same way I’d hoped, and they were small.”
Hartnett explained that his penchant for indie projects was started by his role in the 1999 film ‘The Virgin Suicides’ – which is now acknowledged as a cult classic despite making little impression at the box office.
He said: “My hope was for all of these films that they would be able to kind of rise to that level. Some of them are better than others, but I think all were worthy swings.”
Josh revealed that his approach to selecting parts has changed and he is willing to adapt to a character if he enjoys working with the cast and crew on a project.
The ‘Pearl Harbor’ actor said: “I used to be really interested in the effect of the character and what the character meant to me, personally.
“I wanted to find a specific type of character, when I had choices when I was younger. And then as I got older, I realise, actually, I want to choose things that are way outside of what I understand.
“I also don’t really care about what the character is as much as I care about the people I’m working with. If it’s great people, then it’s my job to figure out what the character is.”

Strictly bosses to launch new ‘duty of care’ system

OHMYGOSSIP — A new “duty of care” system is reportedly being introduced to help the stars of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ .
The show has been mired in controversy in recent weeks after professional dancer Giovanni Pernice was accused of “threatening and abusive behaviour” towards his former partners – claims he vehemently denied – and now BBC bosses are said to have put together plans to make sure everyone involved in the series feels fully supported in the future.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “The BBC is under enormous pressure to ensure this series goes without a hitch. Cameras will be installed pretty much everywhere and a counsellor will be on call 24/7.”
The publication added that cameras will be used to film training sessions and contestants will be provided with chaperones if requested, while they will also be offered therapy sessions and psychological testing to ensure they can cope with the rigours of the prime time show.
Kate Phillips, the BBC’s Beeb director of unscripted shows, told the outlet: “The BBC takes its duty of care incredibly seriously and are always looking at ways to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of contributors.”
It comes after it was revealed Giovanni will not return to ‘Strictly’ for the 2024 season. The BBC unveiled a list of all the dancers taking part in the next season and his name was not included.
Giovanni, 33, has denied any wrongdoing and said he is “looking forward to clearing [his] name.”
In a statement released last month, he explained: “To my dear fans, you will be as surprised as I am that allegations have been made about my dance teaching methods in the media this week.
“Of course, I reject any suggestion of abusive or threatening behaviour, and I look forward to clearing my name.
“Those who have followed my journey on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ over the last decade will know that I am passionate and competitive. No one is more ambitious for my dance partners than me.
“I have always striven to help them be the very best dancers they can be. This has always come from a place of love and wanting to win – for me and my dance partners. Thank you all again for your continued love and support!”

Hannah Spearritt signs up for Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins

OHMYGOSSIP — Hannah Spearritt has signed up for ‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’.
The former S Club singer – who was the second star voted off the most recent series of ‘Dancing on Ice’ – is returning to reality TV by putting herself to the test on the gruelling Channel 4 military endurance competition later this year.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: “Hannah is a great signing for the show.
“She’s got a huge fan base who will want to see her take on some of the biggest challenges on telly.
“She jumped at the chance to show what she’s made of.”
News of her casting comes days after it was reported ex-footballer Troy Deeney has also signed up for the show, following in the footsteps of other ex-players including Wayne Bridge, John Fashanu and Jermaine Pennant.
A source told The Sun: “Footballers’ competitive streak seems to lend itself to taking part. Troy is likely to discuss some of the most upsetting elements of his life in the interrogation room with the instructors.
“Often the celebrities taking part reveal deep-rooted problems that only manifest themselves fully when they’re pushed to the limit in the competition.”
Ex-contestants have revealed that the series is notoriously tough.
Danielle Lloyd recently recounted how she was telling one of the show’s hosts, Jason ‘Foxy’ Fox—who works alongside Matthew ‘Ollie’ Ollerton and Mark ‘Billy’ Billingham—that giving birth to her five kids, Archie, 13, Harry, 12, George, 10, Ronnie, 6, and Autumn, 22 months, was preferable.
The 39-year-old former beauty queen – who was on the edition won by ‘Pop Idol’ victor Gareth Gates – told Yahoo! News: “I actually said to Foxy when we were doing that wire one where we had to drop. I was like, ‘I would rather give birth five more times than do this.’ And he was like, ‘Oh you’re f****** crazy then!”

Chloe Sevigny ‘confused’ by Christian Bale’s Method acting

OHMYGOSSIP — Chloe Sevigny felt “confused” and “intimidated” by Christian Bale’s Method acting technique on the set of ‘American Psycho’.
The actress appeared alongside Bale in the 2000 film about a banker who leads a double life as a serial killer and she has confessed she couldn’t understand why her co-star was being so distant when they were making the film together.
She told Vanity Fair magazine: “I was trying to respect his process, which I found challenging because I’m very gregarious and silly and goofy, unbeknownst to the general public.
“When people take themselves so seriously, I kind of shut down, even though I take my work very seriously and I love acting and whatnot …
“I was really intimidated by his process and intimidated by him. I wanted a little more generosity to make myself feel more at ease, which is my own ego. It was a really challenging dynamic for me, but I don’t think that I thought he was bad.
“I was just kind of confused, like, ‘Why aren’t you being social?’”
Chloe went on to admit she had no idea what he was doing because she had little knowledge of Method acting – in which actors often totally immerse themself in a character to the point of obsession in order to bring realism to the role.
She added: “I wasn’t even that aware of what the Method thing was. I never had any formal training; I think I was just kind of ‘fake it until you make it.’
“But the whole Method thing, I was like, What even is this approach? It was very intimidating.”
Fellow ‘American Psycho’ star Josh Lucas also weighed in on Bale’s Method style – declaring he thought he was a terrible actor until he realised what Bale was up to.
He added: “The first scene I did with him, I watched him and he seemed so false — and I now realise that it was this just … brilliant choice that he was making.
“That was an actor who was at such a completely different level already. And that he was capable of having these crazy layers going on in what he was doing. I thought it was bogus acting at the time, but was exactly the opposite.”

Jerry Bruckheimer: Top Gun 3 will take a while

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Top Gun 3’ won’t be made for “for a while”.
Tom Cruise reprised his role as aviator Maverick in 2022’s ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, 36 years after the original movie was made, and though a third installment in the saga is in the works, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has stressed that fans will have to wait some time for the project to come to fruition.
He told Deadline: “We’ve got some interesting ideas we’ve talked to Tom Cruise about, but we don’t have a script yet. It will be a while.”
Jerry also produces the ‘Bad Boys’ movie series, and following the huge box office success of fourth film ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’, which opened with a huge $105 million, the 80-year-old executive confirmed talks are set to open for a fifth installment.
Asked about a potential fifth film, he said: ” We’ve had discussions but we want to see how this one did at the box office, and I’m sure we’ll have conversations this week.”
While Jerry said there isn’t a ‘Top Gun 3’ script yet, he recently revealed there is a “terrific” story being planned for the project.
Speaking last month, he told The Hollywood Reporter: “I think we have a terrific story. It’s just (a question of) how do we get everybody together and how do we get it done.
“Tom’s very busy. He’s got a lot of movies lined up, and he’s a very in-demand actor. So we’ll have to get a good screenplay, and hopefully, he’ll like it as much as we will.”
Reports about ‘Top Gun 3’ being in the works emerged earlier this year and star Glen Powell – who played Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin in ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ – seemingly confirmed the news by declaring that there was some “fun stuff” happening regarding the flick.
Speaking to Variety, he said of the rumour: “People looked at me like I knew what was going on.
“There is going to be some fun stuff being announced soon…but it was confidential to me. I talk to [Joseph] Kosinski, Cruise and Jerry [Bruckheimer] all the time. There is stuff happening and it sounds very exciting. I don’t know when I’ll be going back…I’m sure there is a jet waiting for me sometime in the future.”

This Country’s Charlie Cooper investigates UFOs, Crop Circles and more for new documentary

OHMYGOSSIP — Charlie Cooper is chasing UFOs, Crop Circles and ghost dogs in a new BBC documentary.
The ‘This Country’ co-creator and star is fronting new series with the working title ‘Charlie Cooper’s Local Legends’, where he will explore “gloriously bonkers rural myths of the UK” as he tours the UK in his campervan.
He said: “I’m really excited about this new series, as I’ve always been fascinated by local legends, myth and folklore.
“As I see it, my mission is to explore our ancient world, seek out mythical creatures and boldly go where no TV presenter has gone before.”
In the three-part series – which will air on BBC Three and iPlayer – Charlie will investigate “everything from Crop Circles and UFOs in Wiltshire to roaming ghost dogs on the coast and countryside of East Anglia”.
He will meet both belivers and naysayers, while visiting iconic locations as he tries to “get to the bottom of the truth”.
In a press release, the BBC revealed he will “search spooky small-town goings on, uncovering eye-witness accounts and elusive evidence as well as staging his own experiments in a bid to bring him closer to the truth”.
They added: “Along the way, he will pay homage to the countryside legends of brilliant Britain and will explore how they have come to define the places and people they originate from.”
Nasfim Haque, Head of Content for BBC Three, said: “It is super thrilling and scary in equal measure to see what mysteries and magic Charlie uncovers on his adventures.
“We are so pleased to be working with him on his factual debut at the BBC and we are sure that audiences will be captivated by everything he discovers.”
And Tom O’Brien, MD of Naked and Executive Producer, commented: “We’re delighted to be working with Charlie and BBC Three on a brand-new adventure series ripe with character, kookiness and the uncanny.
“British folktales are finding new life once again with a real explosion of interest, so it’s a great time to unearth their origins, quirks and meaning for the present-day.”

Jamie Oliver ‘signs huge new Netflix deal’ with first show in the pipeline

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Oliver has reportedly signed a huge new deal with Netflix.
The ‘Naked Chef’ star has almost exclusively been making programmes for Channel 4 over the last two decades, but after his ‘golden handcuffs’ deal with the broadcaster ended two years ago, he has been open to projects on other platforms.
As reported by The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column, Jamie’s first show with the streaming giant will be on their long running hit series ‘Chef’s Table’.
The programme premiere in 2015, giving viewers a peak at the real lives – and kitchens – of star chefs from around the world.
A source said: “The likes of Jamie Oliver are the ultimate choice for these international streamers, because they bring along a ready-made fanbase in countries dotted around the globe.”
And after the likes of Jeremy Clarkson and Holly Willoughby have begun to explore streaming with shows like ‘Clarkson’s Farm’ and ‘Bear Hunt’ respectively, it’s becoming an appealing medium for stars in the UK.
The insider added: “Signing for a huge streamer has now become a right of passage for the biggest stars on TV.
“It is seen as the next higher step in their career beyond working for the BBC, ITV or Channel 4.
“It’s a situation which might have been unthinkable a few years ago, but it reflects a firm shift towards Netflix and Prime Video fast becoming the go-to for entertainment and factual programming.”
The culinary star first rose to fame as ‘The Naked Chef’ on BBC, before joining Channel 4 in 2002 with ‘Jamie’s Kitchen’.
He is yet to comment on the situation publicly, but it’s thought despite apparently being keen to explore opportunities with Netflix, he still has several shows with Channel 4 in the pipeline.
Just last month, it was reported he has landed two more food projects with the broadcaster, despite splitting viewers with his recent air fryer series.
It’s said he will host new show ‘Jamie’s Money Saving Meals’ with cost cutting tips, as well as fronting food travel show ‘Jamie Cooks Georgia’.

Dr Michael Mosley ‘had offer to join Strictly’

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Mosley had reportedly been asked to appear in the next series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ prior to his death.
The 67-year-old TV doctor was found dead on the Greek island of Symi on Sunday (09.06.24) four days after he vanished during a walk last Wednesday (05.06.24) while he was on holiday with his wife Dr Clare Bailey – and now a new report suggests he’d been offered a place on the BBC dancing show just weeks before the tragedy.
A source told the Daily Mail newspaper: “He told me just the week before last he’d been invited to do ‘Strictly’.”
Another insider added to the publication: “Dr Mosley would have been a hugely loveable contestant, exactly what the show needs.”
Mosley had previously been vocal about the health benefits of dancing and even held the show’s famous Glitterball trophy during an episode of his BBC series ‘Just One Thing’.
During the episode, he explained: “Dancing undoubtedly improves your fitness. It has been shown to support your mental health and it can even boost your memory.
“It can be used effectively for depression and it’s good for social connection. Dance has also been shown to help manage the symptoms of a number of conditions, including Parkinson’s disease and dementia …
“Dancing is a valuable way to increase your physical activity. It can get your heartbeat up over 140 beats per minute and help you burn quite a few calories – around 340 every half an hour.
“It has a great combination of low- and high-intensity bouts during the exercise. On top of that, new routines are a fun way to challenge your brain.”
According to police, Mosley died of natural causes just hours after he set out on a walk without his mobile phone.
Emergency services launched an extensive search for the TV star and even used drones to look over the area where he went missing.
His body was found by a camera crew just yards from where volunteers had been looking for him.
Mosley’s wife Clare said in a statement: “My family and I have been hugely comforted by the outpouring of love from people from around the world. It’s clear that Michael meant a huge amount to so many of you.
“We’re taking comfort in the fact that he so very nearly made it. He did an incredible climb, took the wrong route and collapsed where he couldn’t be easily seen by the extensive search team.”

Amy Dowden chronicles cancer battle in documentary

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Dowden has chronicled her battle with cancer in a new BBC documentary.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 at the age of 32 and was given the all-clear in February after months of gruelling treatment – and now she’s revealed she allowed cameras to follow her throughout her journey for a new film called ‘Amy Dowden: Fight of My Life’ which will air over the summer.
Amy said in a statement: “It was an exciting new chapter in my life, but finding a lump on my breast changed my life.
“I never thought at my age I would get cancer and, despite having family members and friends who were cancer survivors, had no idea just what the impact on my life would be.
“I’ve learnt so much about myself and what a cancer diagnosis means on this journey. I hope others find hope and strength from this film, and that it encourages everyone to check themselves, no matter what age you are.”
Amy made the decision to allow cameras to follow her during her cancer treatment just six days after her diagnosis and the documentary was made over the course of 15 months.
The film will air in the run-up to Amy’s return to ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ in the autumn after she was forced to miss the 2023 season due to her illnes.
Amy previously revealed she was working hard in a bid to return to the show this year.
During an appearance on ‘BBC Breakfast’ she was asked about returning to ‘Strictly’, and she said: “That would be the dream, I’m working really hard and getting my body full back and rehab and physio.
“I’ve got a brilliant team so fingers crossed I’ll be back on your screens dancing later this year.”
Amy – who is married to fellow dancer Benjamin Jones – then recalled the shock of learning she had been diagnosed with cancer.
She recounted: “So I found a lump the day before I was going on my honeymoon, and obviously when I got back I went to my GP and yeah I was told unfortunately it is grade three cancer and I need a mastectomy, chemotherapy. “
“I never thought for a million years at 32 that I’d be diagnosed with breast cancer, there I was living my life to the full on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. I just got married, cancer doesn’t discriminate.”

Pixar chief Pete Docter rules out live-action remakes

OHMYGOSSIP — Pixar boss Pete Docter has dismissed the prospect of the studio doing live-action remakes of their classic animated films.
A viral campaign has been launched for a live-action version of Pixar’s 2007 film ‘Ratatouille’ but Docter has no intention of making it a reality.
The animator told Time magazine: “No, and this might bite me in the butt for saying it, but it sort of bothers me. I like making movies that are original and unique to themselves. To remake it, it’s not very interesting to me personally.”
The Pixar chief added that making a live-action film about a cooking rat “would be tough” and explained that the animation genre provides more scope for creativity.
Referring to the studio’s 2009 flick ‘Up’, Docter said: “So much of what we create only works because of the rules of the (animated) world.
“So if you have a human walk into a house that floats, your mind goes, ‘Wait a second. Hold on. Houses are super heavy. How are balloons lifting the house?’
“But if you have a cartoon guy and he stands there in the house, you go, ‘Okay, I’ll buy it.’ The worlds that we’ve built just don’t translate very easily.”
Pete is an executive producer on Pixar’s latest film and has revealed that the success of the picture is imperative to the future of the studio.
He said: “If (‘Inside Out 2’) doesn’t do well at the theatre, I think it just means we’re going to have to think even more radically about how we run our business.”

Sam Rockwell is making a movie about boxing legend Marvin Hagler

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Rockwell is developing a film about the legendary boxer Marvin Hagler.
The 55-year-old actor and Mark Berger’s Play Hooky production company have secured the rights to Dave Wedge’s upcoming book about the late fighter titled ‘Blood and Hate: The Untold Story of Marvelous Marvin Hagler’s Battle for Glory’ after a competitive bidding war.
The book follows Hagler – an underdog from Newark who moves to Brockton, Massachusetts and begins training under the eye of brothers Goody and Pat Petronelli.
Hagler developed into a leading middleweight contender and earned a world title shot against British boxer Alan Minter in 1980 – who had claimed that “no black man” would take his titles.
He would win a bout that was marred by crowd violence at Wembley Arena and went on to reign as undisputed world middleweight champion for seven years.
Rockwell said in a statement: “I remember watching Marvin Hagler’s fights in the 80s and was always astonished by his talent and grit. He was an extraordinary southpaw.
“Now to be able to tell his underdog story, especially as a lifelong boxing fan, is a dream come true.”
The Oscar-winning actor is set to produce the film with Berger and also has his eyes on a part as one of the Petronelli brothers.
New York Times best-selling author Wedge and Ian McFarland will serve as executive producers on the picture and additional crew members are going to be announced at a later date.
