‘They’re so interesting’: Wes Anderson hopes to adapt a Charles Dickens story for a movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Wes Anderson wants to adapt a Charles Dickens story for the big screen.
The acclaimed director has previously helmed a stop-motion take on Roald Dahl’s ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’ and has revealed that he would love to tackle the work of the celebrated Victorian novelist.
Speaking at the Annecy Animation Festival on Wednesday (12.06.24), Wes said: “I feel like the writer who I would like to adapt – who I don’t know if I can see the opportunity – is Dickens.
“I would like to do a big Dickens story. They’ve all been adapted. They’ve all been done many times. They’re so interesting. People keep going back to them. They’re so entertaining and so complex.”
Anderson has been working on his latest film ‘The Phoenician Scheme’ in Germany and says he was joined by frequent collaborators on the set of the movie – which he puts down to his unique methodology on set.
The 55-year-old director said: “This film I just finished making in Germany, there must be a hundred people on the film who have worked with me on other films.
“It could be more who come back – and lots of cast members.”
Wes continued: “People who are newcomers on the set or (to) the process of making one of my movies find it strange. It’s not necessarily the way movies are normally made. Probably every director is like that. We have our own strange methods, which began in some ways with the first film I made.”
The director recalled how the late James Caan was initially puzzled by his approach on his 1996 feature debut ‘Bottle Rocket’ and had to adapt to working with co-stars Owen and Luke Wilson as a result.
Wes said: “I remember James Caan came to the set of ‘Bottle Rocket’, and he was really saying, ‘What are you guys doing?’
“We were doing things that he thought, ‘This is not how much movies are made’, but he sort of adapted to us. And so having people who we formed our way of working together, that means things happen quickly, and we inspire each other maybe more easily and readily. We’ve already kind of smoothed the road a bit.”

Emily Blunt ‘in talks to star in Steven Spielberg’s new film’

OHMYGOSSIP — Emily Blunt is in early talks to join the cast of Steven Spielberg’s new film.
The 41-year-old actress has never previously worked with the legendary filmmaker, but she’s now been lined up star in his next project.
Spielberg, 77, is a long-time fan of the actress and he would love to work with her on his upcoming project.
Emily is wanted to play one of the leads in the movie. However, a deal has not yet been closed, according to Deadline.
The film’s story has been developed by Spielberg and the script is being written by David Koepp. Kristie Macosko Krieger is set to serve as a producer on the project.
Plot details remain a closely-guarded secret and Universal has given the untitled film a release date of May 15, 2026.
Meanwhile, Emily starred in the Christopher Nolan-directed ‘Oppenheimer’ in 2023, and she previously admitted that she relished the experience of working with the acclaimed filmmaker.
The actress – who appeared in the award-winning movie alongside the likes of Matt Damon, Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr – explained that Nolan creates a “rather casual attitude” on set.
She said on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast: “I think people would imagine it was terribly intense and we all walked around saying we are making an important movie with a capital ‘I,’ but it didn’t feel like that.
“It felt very warm and fun and joyful even though there’s the inevitable intimidation factor of working with Chris Nolan and the awareness that you’re gonna have to tighten the screws on yourself.”
Emily explained that Nolan always remained very level-headed on set.
She added: “Everything is calm. No chaos.”

Russell Crowe still in pain from film set injuries

OHMYGOSSIP — Russell Crowe is still suffering from the numerous injuries he’s picked up on film sets over the years.
The ‘Gladiator’ star – who turned 60 in April – has revealed he’s picked up a long list of ailments while filming action sequences on his movies and he’s currently battling arthritis in his left shoulder after undergoing two operations on it but he isn’t keen on having a third surgery to fix the issue.
He told GQ magazine: “I’ve got heel fasciitis. I’ve got shin splints. I’ve got bone-marrow edemas under both knees. I’ve got all manner of things going on with my back. I’ve got ribs that just pop off the spine if I put them under too much pressure.
“I’ve had two operations on my left shoulder, but now that shoulder is so full of arthritis that for me to get back to a place of comfort, they’ve basically gotta cut in, take the the whole humeral head out, they’ve gotta chop it in half, stick carbon fibre in there and sew it back up, and there’s a recovery period of 11 months. F*** off …
“Every one of these things relates to something that went wrong on a film set.”
Crowe went on to reveal the only scar on his body that doesn’t relate to a film set injury comes from jumping a fence as a teenager and landing on a smashed glass bottle which left him needing stitches.
When asked if his movie injuries were “worth it”, he replied: “Yeah, because that’s the way I did it. I remember back in the early ’90s I was talking to some older American guys, and this one guy said, ‘Look, you see that guy over there who’s dressed exactly the same as you? He’s here so you don’t have to roll in the dirt for six or seven hours a day.’
“And I’m like, ‘But I’m playing the character, so I’m gonna be the one rolling in the dirt.’ As you get older, you realise they were just trying to point out that maybe it’s better to keep your own tendons. Life’s easier with tendons.”
It comes after Crowe revealed he broke both his legs while filming 2010’s ‘Robin Hood’ – but didn’t realise until a decade later.
Speaking to People magazine, Russell – who played the titular outlaw in the movie – explained: “I jumped off a castle portcullis onto rock-hard uneven ground. We should have prepped the ground and buried a pad but we were in a rush to get the shot done in the fading light.
“With hundreds of extras around, arrows flying and burn pots setting the castle on fire, there was no pulling out. As I jumped, I remember thinking, ‘This is going to hurt.’ ”
The ‘Land of Bad’ actor didn’t seek medical attention at the time, and the injury wasn’t picked up until 10 years later after he began experiencing “very strange pains” in his lower legs.
He said: “I thought it was nothing serious. After working through a long New York winter, my body was just missing exercise and sunshine.”
The Oscar-winning star underwent MRI scans and X-rays and was stunned when the doctor looked at the images and asked when he had broken his legs.
He added: “Apparently he could see the remnants of fractures in both shin bones. To jog my memory he said, ‘Would have been maybe 10 years ago?’ ” Russell immediately remembered the ‘Robin Hood’ shoot. He said: “Apparently I finished that movie with two broken legs. All for art. No cast, no splints, no painkillers, just kept going to work and over time they healed themselves.”

Gemma Collins claims she’s ‘reversed’ PCOS

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Collins believes she’s managed to reverse her Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
The 43-year-old TV star has turned to diet guru Steve Bennett in a bid to overcome her fertility issues, and Gemma has now claimed that he’s managed to help her to reverse her health condition, meaning she’s “a step closer” to having a baby.
Gemma – who is engaged to Rami Hawash – told MailOnline: “Since working with Steve, he has reversed my PCOS. I no longer have it, so I’m a step closer to having a baby.”
Gemma now has a renewed sense of hope that she’ll be able to have a baby one day.
The TV star – who has previously suffered three miscarriages – shared: “I went to a fertility clinic and obviously, I was going to start my fertility journey in September but I’m not sure I need to do fertility now because hopefully I can do it naturally, plus my thyroid is doing better – I have no under-active thyroid anymore.
“People have bullied me about my weight, they bullied me about it so badly for years and it’s like, I can’t help it, I am active … But now I don’t need to do vigorous exercise – this is the first diet where you’re adding and not subtracting.”
Gemma began suffering PCOS – which affects how a woman’s ovaries work – at the age of 28.
But Steve is confident that her new diet will change her life.
He shared: “With PCOS, the number one cause is a dysregulation of sugar and putting fibre first helps Gemma to regulate the sugar intake and therefore that would be the logical step to removing PCOS.”

Ulrika Jonsson ‘loved’ posing for lads’ magazines

OHMYGOSSIP — Ulrika Jonsson feels proud of her lads’ magazine photoshoots.
The 56-year-old TV presenter posed for various lads’ mags during her younger years, and Ulrika has insisted that she doesn’t have any regrets about it now.
She wrote in The Sun newspaper: “It’s hard to imagine for some that this 56-year-old bird once featured on the covers of many a lads’ mag in decades gone past.
“But it’s true. I did.
“Recently I was asked how I felt about having been splashed across the cover and centrefold of them.
“Had I believed I was being used or objectified?
“Had I considered myself cajoled into stripping off with less than a handkerchief to protect my dignity and spare my blushes?
“As a feminist, had I felt wronged because the pictures would undoubtedly bring on a hot flush in some filthy-minded men?
“The answer has always been, ‘No. I definitely had not’.”
Ulrika still feels proud of her appearance in the magazines.
The TV star also insisted that she had a certain amount of “control” over the photoshoots.
She said: “Like many other women who were asked to appear in these magazines, I felt a sense of pride and fun and, moreover, control. And I’m not alone.”
What’s more, Ulrika suggested that the issue shouldn’t be taken too seriously.
She shared: “The photoshoots were simply good fun and didn’t phase me at all.
“I wasn’t promoting any particular sexual practice.
“I wasn’t representing what I might do in the bedroom – it was purely a bit of role play, not unlike an actor taking on a new character portrayal.
“I loved it because I felt completely in control, I didn’t feel compromised in any way. I was able to express a different version of myself.”

Sam ultimately hopes to make TV shows through his own production company.
He said: “I want to be my own production company. I want to start making my own shows and doing all that kind of stuff.”
Sam has appeared on various reality TV shows over the years, including ‘Made in Chelsea’ and ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’.

OHMYGOSSIP — Sue Cleaver is returning to ‘Coronation Street’ in July.
The 60-year-old actress – who first joined the ITV soap in 2000 – will resume playing Eileen Grimshaw next month, after taking a break to pursue other projects, like playing Mother Superior in the West End production of ‘Sister Act’.
Sue told OK! magazine: “I definitely think I’ll do more on stage. The stage is where I started. Theatre’s always been my first love. Now I’ve been back, that’s not going to be my last.
“But I’ll be heading back to ‘Coronation Street’ soon. I’m having a little holiday and then I will be heading back into ‘Corrie’ in July so they can see me back there. I will be back.”
Sue admitted that she was “missing” all of her ‘Sister Act’ co-stars, such as Alexandra Burke, Ruth Jones, Lemar, Lee Mead, Lizzie Bea, and Alison Jiear, as well as the show’s backstage crew.

“I just thought ‘I’m going to embrace this, I’m going to do it’. Even though I was scared and even though it was the unknown, I thought ‘nope, this is fabulous. Let’s just go for this’ and I did.”
Sue relished the experience of working in the West End.
The actress said: “I had the most amazing time. We played to full houses everywhere and had standing ovations. I will miss everybody hugely but you’ve got to finish one thing to start the next thing.”

Nicole Kidman confirms she and Sandra Bullock are returning for Practical Magic sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicole Kidman has confirmed that she and Sandra Bullock are returning for the ‘Practical Magic’ sequel.
Warner Bros. announced a follow-up to the 1998 comedy film earlier this week and the ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ star has revealed that she and Bullock will be reprising their roles as witch sisters Gillian and Sally Owens respectively.
Nicole told People magazine: “Yes I will be in it. And Sandy will be in it. And that’s that.
“There’s a lot more to tell which is why we go, ‘OK, this is kind of interesting now to be able to do this.’
“(We) found a way in.”
Warner Bros. posted on social media about the sequel after rumours surged when the film became available to stream on Max in a nod to the flick’s “midnight margaritas” scene.
A post on the Warner Bros. X account read: “It’s official! Practical Magic 2 is in development and coming soon. #PracticalMagic2 #ComingSoon (sic).”
Based on Alice Hoffman’s 1995 novel of the same name, the original movie saw the Owens sisters, who are raised by their eccentric aunts, try to break a curse in which any man who loved a woman from their family ended up dead.
Kidman and Bullock are both set to produce the sequel with Akiva Goldsman penning the script.
Stockard Channing, Evan Rachel Wood, and Dianne Wiest also appeared in the original motion picture.
‘Practical Magic’ only earned mixed reviews from critics and disappointed at the box office but has since gone on to earn a cult following.
In 2019, there was talk of a prequel ‘Practical Magic’ TV series, based on Hoffman’s book ‘Rules of Magic’, but it didn’t ever materialise.

Emma Roberts cast in Fourth Wall

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Roberts is to star in the thriller ‘Fourth Wall’.
The 33-year-old actress has been cast in the Stampede Ventures film that is being helmed by Alexis Ostrander in her feature directorial debut from a script by Jerry Kontogiorgis.
The movie tells the story of a former child star (Roberts) from a popular 1990s television show who is kidnapped and wakes up in a complete recreation of the show’s set along with the rest of the cast.
As she re-adjusts to the role she has spent much of her career trying to escape from, she has to recreate memorable moments from the series in order to stay alive.
Emma was seen as a natural fit for the flick as the ‘American Horror Story’ star has been acting since the age of nine.
Greg Silverman is producing the film for Stampede Ventures alongside executive producers Jon Berg, Gideon Yu, Chris Bosco, Mike Tadross and Grant Torre for the company.
Torre, Stampede’s VP of Film, said in a statement to Deadline: “From the moment I read Jerry’s script, I knew we’d have an instantly iconic film on our hands that speaks to our popular culture in such a unique, entertaining way.
“With all of her experience, Emma is the dream to lead this film that explores fame and the cost of growing up in front of the camera.”
He added: “I haven’t been able to get this story out of my head from the moment I read it, and I can’t wait for the world to see what Alexis creates in her feature debut.”

James May surprised by his longevity

OHMYGOSSIP — James May has been surprised by his own longevity in the TV business.
The 61-year-old TV presenter has starred alongside Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond on ‘Top Gear’ and ‘The Grand Tour, and James has confessed to being surprised by his success in the industry.
He said on ‘The Today Podcast’: “We’ve done it for nearly 22 years – a lot longer than we thought we would.
“I thought, when I started doing it in 2003 or 2004, that this was a bit of a laugh. Maybe it’ll last a few years. And, here we are, grey and wizened and sagging. And we’ve only just stopped doing it. It’s quite remarkable.
“You have to be grateful for the opportunity and thankful that it happened, and accept … you know, I don’t want to be the person in the pub who used to be on the telly.”
James subsequently admitted that he’s unlikely to reunite with Jeremy and Richard to make another motoring show.
Asked about the possibility, he replied: “We’re not going to make another series together about cars, no.
“Well, hang on. You should never say no, should you? I think it is pretty unlikely.”
James later joked about his remaining ambitions in life.
The veteran TV star – who launched ‘The Grand Tour’ alongside his co-stars in 2016 – quipped: “My greatest remaining ambition is to get to the end of my life without running over anybody. Because I’ve managed it so far and it would be deeply ironic and very unpopular if it happened now.”

Megan McCubbin leans on Chris Packham for support

OHMYGOSSIP — Megan McCubbin and Chris Packham lean on each other for support.
The zoologist co-hosts ‘Springwatch’ with Chris – who she refers to as her step-dad – and Megan has explained how they support each other on the TV show.
Megan – who is dyslexic – told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Sometimes my pronunciation can be a little bit off.
“If I get a word in my head one way, it is really hard to say it in a different way. Or once I’ve got a story in my head one way it can be hard to change it. [So] if I pronounce something wrong and he’ll notice it in a rehearsal, he’ll send me a message and go ‘Say it like this’.”
Similarly, Megan helps Chris, 63, to deal with his autism.
The TV star shared: “If he goes off on a tangent somewhere, I tend to bring him back as well. So we are both able to support each other.
“Growing up in quite a neurodiverse house was great. It opens up your mind to seeing things in a whole new way.”
Chris isn’t actually Megan’s real-life step-dad – but she’s still happy to use the phrase.
She explained: “Technically my mum and Chris were never married. He’s technically not my step-dad but it’s the easiest thing to [call] him other than ‘my mum’s ex-boyfriend who raised me’, which is a bit more of a mouthful.
“I’ve got three parents. I’ve got a really great relationship with my dad. I’ve got a great relationship with my mum and a great relationship with Chris.
“I’m very lucky to have three very supportive parents and am very grateful for it.”

Stacey Dooley set to host new BBC podcast

OHMYGOSSIP — Stacey Dooley is set to co-host a new podcast series for the BBC.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star, 37, will join forces with the comedian Larry Dean, 34, to present ‘Famously… On Trial’, a series that will focus on various celebrity court cases and other scandals across pop culture.
Stacey said: “The internet pores forensically over celebrity controversies in and outside the courtroom, holding them to account by trial of public opinion.
“With increasingly savvy social media users with immediate access to footage, audio and other evidence from the courtroom, we all live these cases in real-time, and the public voice is louder than ever when any controversy is in the spotlight.
“Sometimes, the verdicts reached in the press or on social media are where someone’s fate is truly decided.”
The documentary-make is relishing the opportunity to explore some well-known legal cases.
Stacey said: “Larry and I are delighted to be delving into some of the most well-known cases! It’s such a treat to sit alongside one another and properly flesh out what ends up being important, broader topics more generally. Judge Judy is shaking, I’m sure!”
Meanwhile, Larry is thrilled to be working with Stacey on the new series.
He said: “So excited to be working with Stacey on this podcast, it’s going to be loads of fun.
“Stacey’s got an investigative background so she’s perfectly placed to lay out each story’s detail, delivering the case and asking the tough questions. And since she’s great company to be around, it will be a good laugh.
“I will attempt to decipher who really won – as I’m pretty out of touch with celebrity culture, I should be able to give a totally objective view. Somehow being under-qualified qualifies me to judge!”

‘It’s such a great world to play in’: Kelsey Mann has plans for a third Inside Out movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelsey Mann has lots of ideas for a third ‘Inside Out’ film.
The filmmaker has made his directorial debut on the new Pixar sequel ‘Inside Out 2’ and explained that the creative possibilities are so vast that another movie could be made easily.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Kelsey said: “I love this world. It’s such a great world to play in, and ideas just kind of come from playing in this world, but for both locations and characters.
“There’s so many ideas not only from the first film, but especially in this one, where I’m like, ‘That’s a really fun, clever idea. I don’t know how it fits into this particular story, but it should be used at some point.'”
The movie tells the story of 13-year-old Riley’s (Kensington Tallman) emotions and Mann admits that he wishes such a “brave” film existed when he was a teenager.
He told Variety: “It’s helped me. I really wish I had a movie like this when I was growing up because I know you’re going through a lot at that age. And a lot of the time you think it’s only you that’s going through it, that no one else is going through it.
“I knew that was a big opportunity with this movie. We can make this big film that goes out to the world to tell a lot of people that they’re not alone.”
Kelsey continued: “I wasn’t sure if the studio would be able to make a film like this but that changed when I pitched it to (Pixar chief creative officer) Pete Docter, who’s an incredible leader at the studio.
“He understood what I wanted to do from the very beginning. I think it’s incredibly brave and bold what we’re able to put out into the world.”

Kyra Sedgwick is ‘in love’ with directing

OHMYGOSSIP — Kyra Sedgwick is far more comfortable directing than acting.
The 58-year-old star made her debut behind the camera on the 2022 picture ‘Space Oddity’ and explained that it is a space where she has a lot of “confidence”.
Speaking to Variety. Kyra said: “I have fallen in love with directing.
“This feels so much better than acting. I’m much less vulnerable. And I feel like I know what I’m doing more. I have so much confidence. As an actor, I am filled with self-doubt.”
Kyra explained that she wants to co-direct a horror movie with her husband Kevin Bacon but the pair have struggled to convince the Directors Guild of America (DGA) to give them both the responsibility.
She said: “It’s very hard to get dual directing credit.
“If you promise the DGA that you will only direct together for the rest of your lives, then they’re more inclined to do it. But if not, they won’t.”
This means that Kyra and Kevin will have to decide who gets credited as the director for the film – which is also due to feature their actress daughter Sosie Bacon.
She said: “We’ll figure it out. But I’m very strategic. I wonder if more people will see this if it’s a Kevin Bacon film than a Kyra Sedgwick film?”
The ‘Something to Talk About’ star also expressed frustration about the lack of opportunities afforded to female directors by movie studios which means it is essential that their pictures are successful.
Kyra said: “We’re going backwards. People feel more comfortable with a male director on the studio side than they do with a female director. And I don’t know why.
“I also think women are not allowed to fail. Men fail up constantly.”

Fearne Cotton reveals why she will never return to live TV

OHMYGOSSIP — Fearne Cotton refuses to work in live TV or radio anymore because her “nervous system can’t take it” anymore.
The 42-year-old TV star began her presenting career in 1996 at the age of 15 when she became a host for ‘The Disney Club’, but she has since moved away from live TV and radio jobs because she can no longer deal with the pressure that comes with them.
She told The Times: “I’ve learnt that I couldn’t do live radio or TV today for any money in the world.
“The thought of going on to someone else’s platform [with] that level of risk and judgment, and that element of the unknown?
“My nervous system can’t take it — it’s absolutely shot. Putting myself in that is like putting me in a pit of lions.”
When asked what she was afraid of, Fearne – who has Arthur, 22, Lola, 18, Rex, 11, and Honey, eight – pointed to cancel culture, and the prospect of losing her whole career overnight due to a mistake.
She explained: “It’s that you could do one thing and you’re done, you’re dead.
“Bye! Everyone’s waiting for you to c*** up so they can all point fingers and say that you’ve always been terrible.”
She continued: “It’s in our culture to try to level people out. We celebrate the new person on the scene, but then as soon as you’re established, people cannot wait for you to f*** up.
“I also think I’ve had positive feedback from what I’m doing now because I’ve actively chosen to step away from the shiny stuff [TV and radio] — and people like that. But I can’t put myself back on TV now — I’ve got too much to lose. I’ve a family to support.”
The ‘Celebrity Juice’ star added all of her “mental health lows” came from her showbiz jobs, and emphasised a career in the spotlight can irreparably damage those who join the industry young.
She said: “If you want to get a whole host of mental health problems, get in the public eye really young, because you get them all.
“There’s no way you can get through it in one piece … All my mental health lows are because of my job. Nothing else. It is not conducive to a balanced mind.”
