Duchess of Cambridge is 'immensely proud' of her grandmother

OHMYGOSSIP — Duchess of Cambridge is “immensely proud” of her grandmother.
The 34-year-old royal has admitted she is highly impressed with her grandparent, Valerie Glassborow, who used to work at Bletchley Park and would break the enemy codes throughout World War Two.
The brunette beauty announced how impressed she was of her ancestor in the foreword of a GCHQ puzzle book, which will see proceeds go towards Heads Together campaign, and has since been reported on the Daily Express website.
She said: “I have always been immensely proud of my grandmother, Valerie Glassborow, who worked at Bletchley Park during the Second World War. She and her twin sister, Mary, served with thousands of other young women as part of the great Allied effort to break enemy codes.”
And Catherine has revealed despite the taboo around talking about the war, she knows her relative and all of the men and women working at the time endured “the hardest problems” that faced Britain.
She added: “They rarely talked about their wartime service, but we now know just how important the men and women of Bletchley Park were, as they tackled some of the hardest problems facing the country.”
And Catherine – who has three-year-old son Prince George and 17-month-old daughter Princess Charlotte with her husband Prince William – is honoured her paternal grandparents “intellectual tradition” is being carried on.
She said: “Like their Bletchley predecessors, they have become well known for valuing neuro-diversity and understanding the importance of mental wellbeing.
“William, Harry and I are very grateful that this book is supporting our Heads Together Campaign. Those who buy this book and support the Heads Together campaign will be playing a part in helping people get the important mental health care they deserve.”

Princess Beatrice: 'Being diagnosed with dyslexia was the greatest thing that ever happened to me'

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Beatrice believes being diagnosed with dyslexia is the “greatest thing” to have happened to her.
The 28-year-old royal has admitted she wears her condition like a badge of honour and considers it to be the best gift in the world because it enabled her to become part of a “community” to help and protect younger people battling with it.
Speaking in a podcast for the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre, the flame-haired beauty – who is a patron of the centre – said: “Being diagnosed with dyslexia was the greatest thing that ever happened to me because it allowed me to become part of this community of people that really are championing young people’s education and making sure that we protect our young people in school and in life.”
And Beatrice has admitted she still makes spelling mistakes, and has to re-read over every email ” a million times” to check for errors.
She explained: “I remember one of my earliest memories was sitting in front of a Beatrix Potter book and the illustrations were so beautiful but the words meant nothing.
“I was put into specialist classes and I remember the teacher looking at me and saying, ‘Why do you keep looking at me, the words are not written on my face’.
“I have to learn how to cope with it every day.
“[But] I still spell things wrong and I still have to read every email a million times to make sure it’s correct but I think this all makes me more methodical.”
Meanwhile, Beatrice has admitted she would love to have a “magic wand” and discover new ways to help teachers.
She said: “If I had a magic wand I would love to see more tools for teachers so they’d know how to balance their time as well as give children of all different capabilities the right to find who they are.”

Prince William's touching John F. Kennedy tribute

OHMYGOSSIP —
Prince William has paid a touching tribute to John F. Kennedy.
The 34-year-old royal attended The Kennedy Memorial Trust reception at Buckingham Place on Thursday night (13.10.16) where he gave a speech during which he said Queen Elizabeth still holds the late US president – who was assassinated on November 22, 1963 – in the “highest esteem”.
He said: “My grandmother would very much like me to pass on some words to all of you.
“In 1965, my grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen inaugurated the memorial to President Kennedy, which stands at Runnymede, on land bequeathed by her to the people of the United States.
“Her Majesty spoke that day of the extent to which we recognised what President Kennedy had already accomplished, and of the high hopes that rode with him, in a future that was not to be.
“So I am honoured, half a century on, to be here this evening and pay tribute to a man whom my family continues to hold in the highest esteem.”
In May 1965, Kennedy’s Jacqueline and their children, Caroline and John Jr. travelled to London for the dedication service and Queen Elizabeth, now 90, gave a speech.
At the time, she said: “The unprecedented intensity of that wave of grief, mixed with something akin to despair, which swept over our people at the news of President Kennedy’s assassination, was a measure of the extent to which we recognised what he had already accomplished, and of the high hopes that rode with him in a future that was not to be.”
The Kennedy Memorial Trust is a British memorial to President Kennedy, which was set up in July 1964, a year after his assassination.

Princess Anne to open Scotland Boat Show 2016

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Anne is to open Scotland’s Boat Show.
The 66-year-old royal will visit Kip Marina, Inverkip for the annual event’s 30th-anniversary celebrations on Friday (14.10.16) where she will unveil a plaque and be given a tour of the 120 boats on display.
The exhibition’s organiser Holt Leisure and Kip Marina MD, Gavin McDonagh said: “We are absolutely delighted to be welcoming Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal. This is an excellent reward for the staff as they put such an effort into making the boat show such a success.
“It is great recognition for the show and the fact that we have grown it from a small, second-hand boat show to the largest of its kind in Scotland, attracting visitors from all over the UK.”
The free event will open to the public at 10am on Friday (14.10.16) and will run until Sunday (16.10.16).
It comes just over a month after the Princess Royal became sick and was signed off work with a chest infection.
However, two weeks later she made her first royal engagement in Bunn Fertiliser in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, south east England, ahead of the company’s 200th anniversary this year.
Anne was seen discussing fertilisers with some of Bunn’s employees.
Fears grew for Anne after it was revealed she had been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in Scotland on September 7 and cancelled all of her upcoming engagements because she was “feeling unwell”.
It was later confirmed Anne had been battling a bad chest infection and advised by doctors to take some time off from her duties.
The royal was expected to visit HM Prison Grampian in Peterhead the day after but postponed the trip.
She has had a jam-packed schedule this summer after returning from the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, where she went to check out the team’s training grounds in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Anne was introduced to the Team Great Britain athletes including marathon swimmer Kerri-Anne Payne, as well as Brazilian athletes.
The mother of two – who has daughter Zara, 35, and son Peter, 38, with her former husband Mark Phillips – continued her tour and visited the Federal University of Minas Gerias, the site of the athletics and swimming training areas.

Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla's Middle East plans

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla will make 50 royal engagements in the Middle East next month.
The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall will visit the United Arab Nations, Oman and Bahrain on a seven-day tour between November 5 and November 11.
The royal couple are there to mark the 200th anniversary of communications between Britain and Bahrain.
A royal source has told the Daily Express newspaper that it is not yet known if Charles, 67, will be meeting with the King of Bahrain whilst they are in the area.
Clarence House previously said in a statement: “On behalf of the British Government, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will undertake official visits to the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates in November 2016.
“The tour will help to strengthen the United Kingdom’s warm bilateral relations with key partners in the region.”
But it’s not the first time Charles and Camilla have visited the area.
Just last year, Charles spent time in the UAE and did so beforehand in 2014 along with Bahrain.
He was accompanied by Camilla for a visit to Oman in 2013, and the pair both went to Bahrain and the UAE in February 2007.
Before then, Charles, 67, carried out several solo trips to the region, including visiting Oman and UAE in November 2003 and 2004 respectively.
He first visited Oman in December 1980 and later returned in 1986 when he also went to Bahrain, and three years later the UAE.

Guardsman collapses during Queen Elizabeth's inspection

OHMYGOSSIP — A guardsman collapsed during Queen Elizabeth’s visit to Brompton Barracks in Chatham, Kent.
The 90-year-old monarch was in the south east of England on Thursday (13.10.16) to mark the 300th anniversary of the The Royal Engineers when the uniformed gentleman passed out and was carried away on a stretcher as she examined 140 service men.
She did so from the comfort of her Range Rover and was joined at the event by musician and TV host Jools Holland, who is the deputy lieutenant of Kent.
The queen later showed her appreciation for the troops and praised the “world-class” Royal Engineers in her speech.
She said: “Your ability to provide a flexible and adaptable force, quickly and without fuss, for the purposes of war fighting, peace building or disaster relief is world-class.
“Whilst the wide range of skills and trades that are on display today give truth to your mottos Everywhere and Where Right and Glory Lead, it is your collective dedication and obvious professionalism that so easily impresses and is the legacy of those who have served before you.”
Elizabeth also wished them the “every success” in the future.
She added: “You and your families have always risen to those challenges.
“I congratulate you on reaching this point in your long and distinguished service and I would wish all sappers, wherever they may be, every success and good fortune in the future.”
During her visit, the royal met with a five-year-old Labrador called Max and Lance Corporal Alex Farquhar, who told the queen how dogs help sniff out bombs and weapons.
After meeting with Her Royal Highness, Lance told reporters: “It was an honour to meet the Queen. We had done a lot of rehearsing but in the end it was quite relaxed. She was clearly very interested.”
Elizabeth’s trip to Kent came on the same day she became the world’s longest reigning monarch following the death of Thailand’s King Adulyadej.

“We have loved our time in British Columbia and Yukon and will never forget the beautiful places we have seen and the many people who have been kind enough to come to welcome us in person.

Queen Elizabeth becomes world's longest reigning monarch

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth has become the world’s longest reigning monarch following the death of Thailand’s King Adulyadej.
The British monarch has been given the title following the sad passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who died on Thursday (13.10.16) at the age of 88.
A statement from the Thai Palace read: “His Majesty has passed away peacefully at Siriraj Hospital. Even though the doctors tried their best to save His Majesty, his condition deteriorated.”
Whilst Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha added: “The government urges you to pray that His Majesty will rest in peace in heaven. We were blessed to live under his reign.
“Do not let his death stop you from following his principles and continuing to be good citizens.”
The Prime Minister confirmed a decision was made in 2002 on who would be the king’s heir following his death and that parliament would be informed of the decision shortly. He also asked for all Thais to wear black for the next 12 months to remember the late royal, who has been very popular with the people he served since his accession in June 1946.
Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth celebrated another big milestone last year after she was named Britain’s longest-reigning monarch in September 2015.
She said at the time: “It is one to which I have never aspired. Inevitably a long life can pass by many milestones – my own is no exception – but I thank you all and the many others at home and overseas for your touching messages of great kindness.”
The British monarch – who ascended to the throne in 1952 – also celebrated her ninetieth birthday this year and was joined by close family and friends to mark the special occasion. The commemorations included a street party on The Mall and a string of events at the royal residence of Windsor Castle.

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Diana has inspired a new capsule collection by ASOS.
A new range of clothing based on the late Princess of Wales – who died in a Paris car crash in August 1997 when she was just 36 – has been designed by the online retailer and includes items Diana wore while off duty.
Items are priced between £8 and £155 and include a pinstripe suit and hoop earrings.
The collection also includes a pinstripe jacket and flares, which resemble an outfit Diana wore to a 1996 charity event for Centrepoint.
The creator of the line is Sharmadean Reid MBE, who owns beauty brand WAH Nail, who was inspired after writing a feature on Diana for their in-house publication, WAH Zine
Talking about where the idea came from, she told Dazed Digital: One issue, we did a page called ‘When Di Was Fly’ and myself and Charlotte Roberts from The Mushpit had found all these images of Princess Diana in streetwear … She always loved bomber jackets, she actually dressed quite American preppy, she even wore Harvard jumpers.”
Design director for ASOS, Vanessa Spence, said: “Sharmadean is the ultimate female creative, we are of course excited to collaborate with her.
“With the majority of our collaborations, we try and offer our customer something different from the brands usual product mix and this first clothing and accessory collection by ASOS x Wah does just that.”

Prince Harry hands out WellChild Award

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry has awarded the 2016 WellChild Award to a young girl with a rare spinal condition.
The 32-year-old royal handed the prize to five-year-old Myzat Mugomba at a ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel in London last week.
Myzat has had Spinal Muscular Atrophy type-2 since birth and breathes through a tracheostomy and was nominated by her full-time nurse, Laura Duffell, and was chosen to receive the accolade out of hundreds of young people.
Laura told Southwark News: “Every single professional who comes into contact with Myzat is struck by her strength of character and positive attitude.
“I am so proud to know her and to witness how she takes on each challenge that comes her way. I hope winning a WellChild Award will help her to understand how very proud we all are of her and her achievements.”
The flame-haired prince gave a speech and said hearing about each of the nominee’s bravery reminded him how lucky the majority of us are that we have little wrong with us and said he was “inspired” by their “positivity”.
He said: “The stories we have heard tonight are moving beyond words.
“They remind us of the utter insignificance of our everyday worries. Yet, one of the things that always stands out is the positivity shown by those in the most difficult and testing circumstances.
“It is heartening to hear so many stories of happiness and hope, even through the dark times.”

Princess Mary opens up about mother's death

OHMYGOSSIP — Denmark’s Princess Mary has opened up about the death of her mother and how it has made her “stronger”.
The 44-year-old princess – who has children Prince Christian, 10, Princess Isabella, nine, and five-year-old twins Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent with husband Crown Prince Frederik – was devastated when Henrietta Donaldson died from a heart condition in 1997.
Speaking to 15-year-old Mads Knudsen Topp, who lost her father three years ago, and has been helped by the Children, Youth and Mourning service, she said: “I was 26. It happened too early. It’s so hard to see when it is so close and so personal, but as you get older, you learn to appreciate the time you had together as a gift. And the loss offers something that you wouldn’t have otherwise. It makes a strong person.”
The princess has previously spoken of how lonely she was when her mother passed away when she was just 26.
She said: “I felt alone in my pain.
“As if nobody understood what I was going through and I had come to a standstill while the whole world around me kept moving forwards.”
And Mary regrets not spending more time with her mother while she was still alive.
She added: “I would have liked to have spent more time with her.”
The future queen’s Mary Foundation helps those who feel socially isolated or excluded to feel they belong and can contribute and thinks it is important to “reach out” to people before their problems become more serious.
She said: “When you feel alone, you feel as if you don’t belong anywhere, like you’re alone in the world. It’s a real and big problem that’s gone unnoticed, so I’m glad that it’s drawing some attention now. There’s still a lot of taboo around it, it’s an issue we have to talk about.
“We have to be able to recognise people who are lonely and reach out to them.
“Loneliness in the short term is perfectly normal, but in the long term, it can destroy social and interpersonal skills.”

The 26-year-old royal, the daughter of Prince Andrew and Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, attended the ceremony – along with British prime minister Theresa May – which commemorated the work of the late activist, who was a leader of the movement to abolish the slave trade.

and vowed to make Britain lead the fight to bring justice to slave workers.
She promised: “As Prime Minister, I want Britain at the forefront of this fight, leading the world with our efforts to stamp out modern day slavery and human trafficking.
“This is a global phenomenon that knows no geographical boundaries, crossing not just borders but over the internet.
“So we need a radical domestic and international approach to target every aspect of this despicable trade and strip the slave drivers of the profit they make out of human suffering by putting them behind bars.
“We will work tirelessly, relentlessly pursuing the perpetrators of these appalling crimes so that victims of slavery can go free.”

At the time, he urged for people to take notice and realise the huge “debt” we owe the armed services for their work in protecting the country.
Speaking about the Walking With The Wounded expedition, he previously said: “This extraordinary expedition will raise awareness of the debt that this country owes to those it sends off to fight – only for them to return wounded and scarred, physically and emotionally.
“The debt extends beyond immediate medical care and short-term rehabilitation. These men and women have given so much. We must recognise their sacrifice, be thankful, so far as we can ever repay them for it.”

Prince Charles opens restaurant in Scotland

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles has opened his own restaurant and gift shop.
The 67-year-old royal attended the opening of the Rothesay Rooms in Ballater in Aberdeenshire, Scotland on Tuesday evening (11.10.16).
The village was hit with flash floods last December when the River Dee burst its banks.
The building, situated on Netherly Place, used to be a Co-op supermarket and has transformed the area thanks to the princes’ Ballater Flood Appeal, which has so far raised £160,000 since it launched at the beginning of the year.
Asked how the idea came about, the Prince of Wales said he got the idea from local butcher Barry Florence, who said to him, “why don’t you put a Highgrove Shop in Ballater?”
Charles explained to the BBC: “That is what really started this whole idea. It was entirely due to my going into Sheridan’s butchers to see how they were getting on.
“There has been a lot of effort in the last six months or so since the disastrous floods that did so much damage to poor old Ballater.”
The new kitchen will open its doors in November and will be attached to a Highgrove Shop, which is to open later this month.
According to Guy Fenton, who will be the head chef initially, Charles wanted the project to be about “sustainability” and using locally-sourced produce.
