Duchess Catherine gets hands dirty fixing bike in Netherlands

OHMYGOSSIP — Duchess Catherine helped to fix a broken bicycle wheel on her first solo engagement aboard in the Netherlands.
The 34-year-old royal met with deprived children at the Bouwkeet Makers Space in Rotterdam, Holland on Tuesday (11.10.16) and showed off her repair skills at the centre, which aims to keep children off the streets and prevent crime in the neighbourhoods of Bospolder and Tussendijken.
The brunette beauty – who has Prince George, three, and 17-month-old Princess Charlotte with Prince William – was robots made of Lego constructed by the youngsters.
Catherine was introduced to nine-year-old, Driss Ben Mira, who showed the duchess the robot he had made called Meganoid.
The Duchess of Cambridge congratulated the boy on his “amazing” creation and made him laugh by talking to the robot.
Looking at Meganoid, she said: “Very nice to meet you.”
During her trip, she also had lunch with King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima and their three daughters at their royal residence near The Hauge, Villa Eikenhorst.
She also made a visit to the The Mauritshuis, a museum where she was shown a painting of Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring and was spotted gazing at the artwork while sporting a similar pair of pearls.
According to the BBC, the museum’s director, Emilie Gordenker said: “She didn’t mention the earrings she was wearing but she was interested in the painting.
“She asked if I had become a lot more popular since the film came out, and I said I definitely had.”

Prince William's charity speech

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William gave a speech at the 100 Women in Hedge Funds Gala on Monday night (10.10.16).
The 34-year-old royal attended the bash at Middle Temple Hall and posed for pictures with a large group of female fundraisers from SkillForce – a charity which works with young people providing mentoring and educational training – before congratulating them on their hard work.
The Duke of Cambridge got suited and booted and wore a stylish tuxedo with a bow tie to the lavish ceremony.
In his lengthy speech, William praised the ladies and said he was honoured to be a patron of the charity.
He said: “I personally am very pleased to be here again as Patron of 100 Women in Hedge Funds’ philanthropic initiatives. In fact, it was here at Middle Temple that I attended my first London Gala as Patron, back in 2010.
“Since that time, 100 Women in Hedge Funds has supported a number of charities of which Catherine, Harry and I are Patron.”
It was a busy day for the heir-to-throne as he also attended an event at County Hall for his, Duchess Catherine and Prince Harry’s charity Heads Together for World Mental Health Day.
There he vowed that the three of them will do all they can to make it easy for those battling depression and any other form of illness to ask for help.
He said: “Mental health is not a dirty word. We all have mental health like we do physical health, good or ill.
“But not seeking help at those times when it all seems too much or we are depressed or anxious, can impact the rest of our lives. Put it simply the three of us want to make asking for help no longer a big deal.”

Prince Harry becomes a tourist on The London Eye

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry looked to see if Queen Elizabeth was home whilst on The London Eye.
The 32-year-old royal took a ride on the tourist attraction with his brother, Prince William, and his wife Duchess Catherine on Monday (10.10.16) in aid of World Mental Health Day and couldn’t help but check to see if his 91-year-old grandmother was at Buckingham Palace.
The flame-haired hunk spoke to Theresa Cox, who looks after her husband, who suffers from a rare neurological condition called multiple system atrophy.
Mrs. Cox told the Metro newspaper: “Harry was very down to earth, he told us to look out for his grandmother’s building and wave.
“He couldn’t remember if she was home or not so we were looking to see if we could spot her royal standard.”
However, the Queen was not in at the time they took a trip in one of the glass pods, which looks out over the British capital.
Later in the day, Harry gave a speech at County Hall, where he attended an event hosted by Heads Together – a charity set up by Harry, Prince William and Duchess Catherine – where he said there should be no “shame around mental health”.
He told guests: It’s time we ended the shame around mental health – the fear of judgement that stops people talking or getting help.”

Prince Harry calls for end to 'shame around mental health'

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry has called for an end to the stigma surrounding mental health.
The 32-year-old royal was joined by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at County Hall in London on World Mental Health Day on Monday (10.10.16) where he addressed the importance of talking about mental illness without feeling any “shame”.
Speaking on behalf of the trio’s charity Heads Together, he told a room full of guests: “It’s time we ended the shame around mental health – the fear of judgement that stops people talking or getting help.”
Prince William, 34, vowed that himself, Harry and his wife Catherine, also 34, will do all they can to make it easy for those battling depression and any other form of illness to ask for help.
He said: “Mental health is not a dirty word. We all have mental health like we do physical health, good or ill.
“But not seeking help at those times when it all seems too much or we are depressed or anxious, can impact the rest of our lives. Put it simply the three of us want to make asking for help no longer a big deal.”
And Catherine backed up William’s comments by saying the trio feel it is their “duty” to show what services and support mechanisms are available to help sufferers.
She added: “William, Harry and I feel it is our duty to do what we can, with your help, to shine a spotlight on emotional wellbeing and highlight the support that is out there to prevent or manage the pain at difficult times.”
William, Catherine and Harry took a ride on a purple lit London Eye to mark the day and also spoke to those who have received support from close ones during dark times in their lives.

Piece of Princess Diana's cake to be auctioned

OHMYGOSSIP — A slice of cake from Prince William’s baptism is to be auctioned.
‘Posh Pawn’ host James Constantinou has revealed the unique item, which was made by the late Princess Diana for her eldest son’s christening, is to be sold on the Channel 4 programme.
He said: “We’ve got a piece of Lady Diana’s cake. We’ve got it there now in a little commemorative box from the palace.
“It’s horrible. It’s like an old bit of Christmas cake. It smells as well to be quite honest with you so it’s kept wrapped up.”
The once sweet treat was made for William’s religious ceremony held on August 4, 1982, at Buckingham Palace.
A message on the tin reads: “With best wishes from Their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Wales on the occasion of the Christening of Prince William of Wales.”
James doesn’t think the out of date cake will make very much but thinks it is still an “interesting” piece.
He told Express.co.uk: “We’ve had it out and had a little look at it. It’s just a very interesting thing for us to have. It’s not of any great value, to be honest with you, it’s probably hundreds of pounds as opposed to thousands, but it’s just interesting.”
The popular pawn broker obtained the slice of cake by someone who donated the money they gave him to charity.
He said: “Diana presented a piece of her cake to some of the Falklands vets, some of the wounded.
“This piece has been presented to us and we ended up purchasing it and the guy who brought it in donated the money to charity for a good cause.”

Prince William thrilled by rhino births

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William is thrilled that rhinos he sent off into the wild have given birth.
The 34-year-old royal – who is a president of the charity Tusk Trust – backed a campaign in 2012 that saw three black rhinos taken back to their home in Tanzania in South Africa from Port Lympne Wildlife Park in Kent, south-east England.
And William was filled with joy to hear one of the robust animals called Grumeti gave birth to baby rhino called Mobo in April and Zawadi also gave birth in June and is yet to name her little baby.
The Duke of Cambridge – who is married to Duchess Catherine – proudly told The Mail on Sunday newspaper: “It’s great to hear the news. The past few years have been a dark time for African rhinos. This success story reminds us what can be achieved by committed conservationists even in the face of considerable challenge.
“It is incredibly difficult to get rhinos that have previously been in captivity to breed in the wild, so huge congratulations to the team that made this happen.”
Damian Aspinall, of the Aspinall Foundation at the wildlife park, commented: “When you release animals into the wild, it’s very emotional. They give you a look like they are trying to thank you. For these rhinos to have given birth naturally in the wild is everything we could hope for. This is something we as a country should be very proud of – no one else in the world is approaching conservation the way Britain is.”

Queen Elizabeth to unveil Queen Mother statue

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth is to unveil a statue of the late Queen Mother in Poundbury in Dorset on October 27.
The 90-year-old monarch will be joined by Prince Philip, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall when they make a visit to the country town in south west England to unveil the special tribute to the late royal, who died in March 2002 at the age of 101, at the town’s Queen Mother Square.
The Mayor of Dorchester, Tim Harries said: “I am very much looking forward to the royal visit, it is great for the town and will be a historic event as it is the first time the Queen, along with her husband, Prince Charles and his wife have all visited together.
We were asked at our last council meeting if we were happy to take over the responsibility of the statue, which we have graciously accepted, and are grateful that it will now become part of the town fabric.”
The bronze statue is a replica of the one which stands on the Mall in London of her when she was 51-years old.
Margaret Morrisey, who was given an OBE by HRH, told Bournemouth Echo newspaper of the planned visit: “We are all very honoured and excited to have Her Majesty visit Dorchester to celebrate the unveiling of the Prince Charles’ beloved Grandmothers statue and the opening of Queen Mother Square.
“I met the Queen 50 years ago in Westminster Cathedral at the celebrate the International Year of the Child with my son of three.
“As the Queen approached he said ‘That’s no the Queen she has no crown on’, the Queen smiled at him and said, ‘If I had known you were coming I would have worn my crown.”
The Queen last visited Poundbury in 2009 where she was given a guided tour of Weymouth and Portland.

Royals ride on London's Eye for World Mental Health Day

OHMYGOSSIP — The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are to mark World Mental Health Day (10.10.16) by taking a trip on The London Eye.
The royal couple will be joined by Prince Harry as they take a ride on the British capital’s landmark on South Bank to make a stand for those who have battled with depression and other psychological ailments.
The trio will also host a reception later in the day for their mental health charity, Heads Together, at County Hall where they will meet with those who have received support from close ones during dark times in their lives.
Kensington Palace confirmed on Twitter: “Today the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry will celebrate #WMHD2016 with a special #HeadsTogether event at County Hall and @TheLondonEye. (sic)”
At the event, guests will be able to take to a special booth where they can take selfies with a thank you message to their loved ones or colleagues who have assisted them during their recovery from mental illness.
This year’s theme is all about thanking those who have helped others as part of the initiative’s #Thereforme social media drive.
A Kensington Palace tweet read: “The theme of #WMHD2017 is the value of ‘psychological and mental health first aid for all’, an issue TRH will explore with @heads_together (sic)”
This comes after Catherine admitted she and William “wouldn’t hesitate” in getting their two kids, Prince George, three, and 17-month-old Princess Charlotte, support if they needed it.
She recently said: “Throughout my work with family and child support organisations, one thing that has stood out to me time and again is that getting early support for a child who is struggling to cope is the best possible thing we can do to help our children as they grow up.
“Knowing this, both William and I feel very strongly that we wouldn’t hesitate to get expert support for George and Charlotte if they need it.”

Queen Elizabeth's corgi dies

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth’s pet dog has died.
The 90-year-old monarch’s 13-year-old corgi named Holly sadly passed away last week after becoming ill at Balmoral in Scotland.
The animal was buried just before Elizabeth’s three-month annual vacation at the royal residence came to an end, according to People magazine.
Elizabeth only has three pets left, corgi Willow and Vulcan and Candy, who are a cross between corgis and a dachshund.
Insiders have told the publication that The Queen will not be replacing her dog as she fears they will be left behind.
Elizabeth previously said she would stop breeding corgis when Holly and Willow pass on.
The royal won’t be adding any new pups to her household when her existing pets die due to fears a younger dog could damage her health.
The Queen worries she could trip over a spirited young corgi, leaving her with serious injuries and unable to perform her royal duties.
A senior courtier previously said: “She worries about too many dogs around her feet and the danger she will trip up and hurt herself badly. She is after all 88 and not getting any younger.
“Her corgis are getting on a bit and move along at a sedate speed but a young dog would obviously be very lively and much more active.
“Her main fear is that if she fell and broke her arm or even a leg she would not be able to perform her duties for many weeks if not months, and that would upset her greatly.”

Prince Charles' poetry recital praised

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles’ recording of poem ‘The Shipping Forecast’ has been hailed a fitting tribute to late writer Seamus Heaney.
The 67-year-old prince recorded a recital of the acclaimed poet’s verse to play on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme in celebration of National Poetry Day on Thursday (06.10.16) and it will also be heard by visitors to the new Seamus Heaney HomePlace centre in Northern Ireland.
And local officials think Charles’ contribution to the exhibition, which celebrates the life and work of the poet – who met the prince several times during his life – proves just how highly regarded Heaney was.
Trevor Wilson, who chairs Mid-Ulster District Council, said: “To have a contribution from Prince Charles is testament to the esteem in which Seamus Heaney was held and the great influence of his work.
“This is a wonderful addition to our exhibition and when better to announce it than on National Poetry Day when we celebrate writing and our great writers.”
This year’s National Poetry Day was themed around Messages and people are being encouraged to “say it with a poem”, with a host of major organisations – including Channel 4, local BBC radio stations, and Royal Mail – taking part in the initiative.
National Poetry Day director Susannah Herbert said: “A poem can reach places that prose just can’t.
“That’s why we’re inviting all with anything important to say today to say it with a poem. It can be new or old, utterly original or a familiar favourite.
“It can be deep and dark, funny or memorable. By enjoying, discovering or sharing a poem – words that draw attention to themselves – you change the nature of the national conversation.”

Style icon Princess Charlotte

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Charlotte has been hailed a “mini style icon”.
The 17-month-old daughter of Prince William and Duchess Catherine donned a pale blue cotton hand-smocked dress by Pepa & Co at her first official engagement, a children’s tea party in Canada last week, and the $94 garment sold out within 24 hours of the event.
Designer Pepa Gonzalez said: “Since then, we have had a lot of interest in all smocked and traditional dresses–her influence as a mini style icon is huge.”
Most of Pepa’s designs are sold online and she now keeps a map on the wall of her office to document just how far the young royals’ influence has spread.
She told People magazine: “Now we have added Korea, China, New Zealand and Brazil. Even Russia! So many people around the world follow the royals, especially this royal family.
“The Americans love it, and when they discover a brand the moms really go mad!”
Catherine – who is also known as Kate Middleton – buys a lot of clothes for her children, including the outfit George was wearing when the family arrived in Canada, from Pepa & Co, something which is very exciting for the designer.
She said: “It’s very exciting because of the surprise factor–you never know what they are going to wear.”
Pepa describes the duchess’ style for her children as “classic with a vintage inspiration”, and she usually opts to buy “hand-smocked dresses, frilled collars for little girls, peter pan collars for little boys–similar to what William wore as a little boy.”

Princess Charlene ready for 'terrible twos'

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Charlene is preparing herself for the “terrible twos”.
The 38-year-old princess and her husband Prince Albert are bracing themselves for their twins Princes Jacques and Princess Gabriella, 18 months, to enter the notoriously difficult phase of toddlerhood that can see an increase in tantrums as they try to exert independence.
Speaking at the US launch of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, she told TV star Mary Hart: “I’m hearing about the terrible twos now that they’re 18 months. I’m preparing myself for this.”
The former swimmer – who joined diving champion Greg Louganis in the pool to promote water safety for children at the launch – is currently focused on raising her children and educating them on the “responsibility” of royal life.
She said: “For now, I’m a full time mom. I don’t know how long that will be for. But yes, it is quite a difficult situation in comparison to the normal folk. We do have responsibilities and duties, and of course my son and my daughter are born into our responsibility. So it’s quite something for me to accept that and to educate them.”
But the youngsters are already aware of their royal status.
Asked when she and Albert plan to explain their position to the twins, she laughed: “They already know that. Jacques had his first kiss at 16 months with a crush and Gabriella is just fabulous.”
Charlene is fascinated by the differences between her son and daughter.
She said: “They’re very similar, but quite different. It’s interesting to see the development just over the months.”
And it seems diaper duty is shared in the royal household.
Asked who changes the twins, she smiled: “It’s a marathon.”

Ellie Goulding embarrassed by Prince Harry questions

OHMYGOSSIP — Ellie Goulding was left red-faced when she was quizzed about her relationship with Prince Harry.
The 29-year-old singer has been friends with the 32-year-old prince for several years, but was romantically linked with him earlier this year after she split from McFly bassist Dougie Poynter.
And the ‘Love Me Like You Do’ hitmaker was left squirming in embarrassment when she was asked if she was expecting Harry’s baby during an Australian TV interview.
After being asked the question via a live video link on ‘The Project’, she looked away from the camera and said: “Please don’t let me go red.”
She then fanned her face and said: “I’m bright red. Why did I have a feeling that was going to come up? Naughty people.”
It was previously claimed Ellie – who famously performed at Harry’s brother Prince William and sister-in-law Duchess Catherine’s wedding reception – had no interest in pursuing a relationship with her royal pal because she isn’t “in the market” for regal life.
A source previously said: “That life isn’t for her. If she did want to step up they would still have all the laughs and banter, but she has joked that she isn’t in the market for princess-hood.
“They have fun together, but first and foremost they are good friends and that’s how they intend on keeping it. It means the world to Harry to have Ellie in his inner circle.”
Ellie was previously said to have nicknamed Harry ‘Prince Bants’ as he is so funny, while he appreciated that the blonde singer is not a “stick chick”, someone who spends time at high-society events like polo in a bid to get closer to him.

Prince George won't look suburban

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince George wears shorts because trousers on young boys are considered “suburban”.
The three-year-old son of Prince William and Duchess Catherine is often pictured with his knees exposed and etiquette expert William Hanson has explained it is the traditional way the royals, upper classes and aristocracy choose to dress their children as it would look “quite middle class” to put them in trousers.
He said: “It’s a very English thing to dress a young boy in shorts.
“Trousers are for older boys and men, whereas shorts on young boys is one of those silent class markers that we have in England. Although times are (slowly) changing, a pair of trousers on a young boy is considered quite middle class – quite suburban. And no self-respecting aristo or royal would want to be considered suburban. Even the Duchess of Cambridge…
“The modern habit of upper class families choosing to dress their boys in shorts will deliberately hark back to a bygone age. The British upper set are always keen to hold on to tradition, and this one also silently marks them out from ‘the rest’.”
And it seems George has a few years of freezing his knees ahead of him as if William and Catherine stick to tradition, he won’t be wearing trousers until 2021.
William added to Harper’s Bazaar online: “The usual custom is that a boy graduates to trousers around eight years old.
“This is, historically, perhaps due to the practice of ‘breeching’, which dates back to the sixteenth century. A newborn boy would be dressed in a gown for their first year or two (these gowns have survived as the modern Christening robe) and then he was ‘breeched’ and wore articles of clothing that more resembled shorts or trousers than dresses.”

Phillip Schofield given Prince Philip warning

OHMYGOSSIP — Phillip Schofield was warned not to make Prince Philip “cross” while making a new documentary.
The 54-year-old presenter has been working on a programme to mark 60 years of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme and was granted a rare interview with the 95-year-old royal.
Though the ‘This Morning’ host praised the prince – who is married to Queen Elizabeth – for being “remarkable”, he admitted he was issued a number of warnings over what he could and couldn’t talk about with the royal.
He said: “I’ve been spending some time with him and he is just the most remarkable guy.
“He remembers everything, he’s very spritely, sharp.
“They warn you, ‘Don’t say that because you’ll make him cross’, ‘Don’t say that, you’ll make him cross’…
“So it is a bit of a dance.”
However, Phillip was “really impressed” by the prince’s active lifestyle, despite his advancing years, and hopes to be like him when he’s older.
His ‘This Morning’ co-host Holly Willoughby said: “You were so impressed with him. He kept coming into ‘This Morning’ saying, ‘Gosh, this happened yesterday, this happened yesterday’… You were really impressed with him.”
Phillip added during a joint interview on ‘Loose Women’: “I’m really impressed by what he does. As an elderly gentleman, that’s all I want to be.”
Phillip recently admitted the prince was unimpressed when he learned he hadn’t taken part in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme as a youngster himself.
He said: “The first time I met the Duke at a Duke of Edinburgh Awards ceremony, he said to me ‘Did you do your DofE award?’ and I said ‘It wasn’t at our school’ and he said ‘Then why the bloody hell are you here then?’
“I said ‘My wife did her gold’ and he replied ‘Well she should be here then!’… He doesn’t suffer fools!”
‘When Phillip Met Prince Philip: 60 Years of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award’ will also feature interviews with the prince’s son Prince Edward and his wife Sophie Wessex.
