Prince Harry's Invictus Games set for Toronto in September 2017

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry’s Invictus Games will take place in Toronto, Canada from September 23 – 30, 2017.
The British royal will bring his sporting contest for injured service personnel and will feature up to 550 members of the armed forces from 17 countries, including Iraq and Afghanistan.
Mike Burns, CEO of the Canadian event, said: “It’s where a lot of the competitors were engaged in combat or peacekeeping missions.
“We’re not just putting on a traditional sports competition, it’s meaningful therapy.
“It starts when they get selection by their countries to compete.
“I’ve heard on more than one occasion ‘these games have saved my life’.
“It seemed more needed to be done…there’s no ticker tape parade for those who’ve come back from wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
Speaking about Prince Harry, who has previously held the games in London and Miami, he said: “He’ll be there a few days earlier, he’ll want to see the venue and preparations and will attend from the opening to closing ceremonies.”
Christian Darbyshire, who will co-chair the event with Andy McCreath, said: “Our focus will be on fundraising, sponsorship and helping to raise the profile of the games nationally. It is an honour to be a part of the games and help our troops.”
McCreath added: “We were able to raise over $1.2 million for True Patriot Love in the past and we hope to be able to deliver even more for Invictus. It’s an important initiative that all Canadians should be a part of.”

Leslie Odom Jr. praises Princess Grace Foundation

OHMYGOSSIP — Leslie Odom Jr. has praised the Princess Grace Foundation for kickstarting his career.
The 35-year-old actor – who won a Tony Award this year for Best Actor in a Musical for playing Aaron Burr in ‘Hamilton’ – won a bursary from the foundation when he was a struggling college student and says it changed his life.
He explained: “My teacher told me the Princess Grace Awards helps emerging artist still in college, Compiling the list of recommendations sometimes felt like we were submitting for the Nobel Peace Prize! It was a huge help to my family and it changed my life.
“That’s money that would have added to my debt and would have been multiplied by thousands of dollars because I would have had to pay it back over time,” he says. “So that’s life-changing money. And it was a real vote of confidence going into my final year of education because it gave me the belief in myself that I could finish, that there was somebody in New York who believed in me.
“You’re looking for just the tiniest thread of hope, the tiniest confirmation from the universe and from the outside world that this is what you should be doing, that this is the path you should be on.
“I still didn’t know if I was going to have a professional career. But winning the award and getting the call from New York City gave me the belief that I could do it and that I had a real shot.”
And Leslie revealed the foundation has continued to support him to this day.
He said: “It was challenging in school, but it’s more challenging out of school. Once you’re out in the world and you get a real taste of that rejection. And what’s great about the Princess Grace Foundation, is that the relationship hasn’t stopped. Whenever I have a performance, there’s always a Princess Grace Foundation cheering section. They’ve been there every step of the way.”

Queen Elizabeth's belated birthday lunch

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth enjoyed a birthday meal at an exclusive men’s club last week.
The 90-year-old monarch – who reached the milestone age in April – visited White’s in London with her husband Prince Philip for a belated celebratory lunch, the Daily Mail reports.
Although women are banned from the club, they make an exception for the monarch, whose son Prince Charles and grandson Prince William, are members.
While Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip enjoyed the belated birthday lunch, no doubt her beloved corgis were chowing down on some delicacies of their own as it was recently revealed that the pampered pooches have their own menu.
The monarch’s former chef, Darren McGrady – who worked for the royal for 11 years – has revealed the canines are extremely well looked after, so much so he would have to cook up special meals for the mutts on a daily basis.
He said: “When I worked at the Palace, we actually had a royal menu for the dogs.
“It would be chosen and sent to us in the kitchen every month by Mrs Fennick, who took care of all the dogs at Sandringham.
“It would list each day what the dogs were to have. One day it would be beef, the next day chicken, the next day lamb, the next day rabbit and it alternated through those days.
“The beef would come in, we would cook it, dice it into really fine pieces and then we did same with the chicken. We’d poach them, and again chop them really, really small to make sure there were no bones so the dogs wouldn’t choke.”

Brexit hits Queen Elizabeth's finances

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth will reportedly lose £1 million a year due to Brexit.
The British monarch’s country retreat in Norfolk, Sandringham Estate, is set to lose out on EU subsidies of up to £700,000 a year, while her farms near Windsor Castle will miss out on £300,000, the Sunday Telegraph reports.
A source said Brexit, Britain’s exit from the European Union, was not a “budget-busting concern” but the Queen’s financial team had been watching developments closely.
The insider explained: “I don’t think it was a budget-busting concern, it wasn’t something people were losing sleep over. But it was something people were conscious of as a post-referendum impact.
“I think that they were interested to see what the Government’s view was on what the replacement mechanism would be for the CAP (Common Agricultural Policy) domestically.”
Dickie Arbiter, Buckingham Palace’s former press secretary, said: “After Brexit Her Majesty would fall in line with everyone else currently entitled to CAP and would not wish to be considered a special case or come in for special treatment.”
And a Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “Subsidies are open to all farmers; and like others with agricultural interests, subsidies are received on the Queen’s private estates.
“We would not comment beyond the detail that is already in the public domain as a matter of record.”

He told PEOPLE: “It feels good. I’m very happy to have saved this old family home from a near certain death or development.

Prince Charles and Prince Andrew at odds over royal roles

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles and Prince Andrew are reportedly at odds over Andrew’s daughters.
The 56-year-old British royal wants Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie to take on full-time royal duties and be given new accommodation at Kensington Palace but his older brother Charles, 67, is said to be against this.
A source told The Sunday Express: “He has long argued that as the only ‘blood princesses’ in the family, Beatrice and Eugenie deserve proper royal roles like their cousins, along with the same standard of accommodation at Kensington Palace. He fears that they will be totally sidelined when the Queen dies.”
Andrew allegedly feels his daughters are being “overshadowed” by Charles’ sons Princes William and Harry, William’s wife Duchess Catherine and their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
The insider added: “He believes his daughters are already being overshadowed by William, Kate and Harry and the situation will get worse as Prince George and Princess Charlotte get older.”
Andrew reportedly wrote to Queen Elizabeth about his concerns and her staff have passed the matter on to Charles, who has been arguing for a more “streamlined” royal family when he ascends the throne.
The insider added: “The Prince of Wales is already conscious that he divides opinion more than his mother.
“The last thing he wants is additional criticism by keeping peripheral royals on the public payroll.”

Prince Charles asked Phil Collins to organise his 40th birthday party

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles asked Phil Collins to organise his 40th birthday party.
The 65-year-old singer has admitted the 67-year-old royal turned around to him when the pair were at a Michael Jackson concert at London’s Wembley arena and asked the former Genesis frontman to plan a bash for his milestone 27 years ago.
Speaking on ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’, which will air on ITV on Saturday (22.10.16), the musician said: “We went to a Michael Jackson show at Wembley and I was sitting behind him because I was a trustee and when Michael Jackson was playing something, he turned around and said ‘I’d like something like this at my party. Will you organise it?’
“And you think ‘Yes, of course, sir, yes’ so I did but no, I just found people who could play Michael Jackson songs.”
However, Phil has admitted when he performed for the late Princess Diana to mark her 30th birthday, which took place just before Diana and Charles announced they were going their separate ways, he played “completely insensitive” songs, although he didn’t know the couple were breaking up.
Speaking about his mistake, he explained: “I played a completely insensitive set of [my hits] – ‘Separate Lives’, ‘Doesn’t Anybody Stay Together Anymore’ – and it was like, I didn’t know they were splitting up, no-one told me!”
Meanwhile, Phil – who has reignited his romance with his ex-wife Orianne – has revealed him and Charles began to bond after his split from his partner.
He said: “If the situation had arisen, I was involved in the Prince’s Trust, I had been since 1983 and so I was kind of drawn to Prince Charles, who I think is a great bloke.
“I’m not a Tory, I’m not a monarchist but I just think as a bloke, he’s a good bloke.”
