Princess Diana used to watch Brookside whilst getting her hair cut

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Diana used to watch ‘Brookside’ when getting her hair cut by Sam McKnight.
The Scottish-born hairstylist has revealed after a photoshoot with the late Princess of Wales – who died in a car crash in 1997 aged 36 – the royal was desperate to let Sam loose with a pair of scissors on her golden locks, and the fashion guru has revealed Diana would often enjoy catching up on her soaps whilst Sam cut away.
Speaking in the new book titled ‘Hair by Sam McKnight’, Sam said: “Mary Greenwell and I were told it was someone important, but we had no idea who. We guessed it might be Margaret Thatcher, and then in walked Diana.
“I faked a short style for the shoot, using hair grips to tuck her shoulder-length hair under the tiara.
“I had no idea what was about to ensue. The style became front page news and there were journalists camped outside my parents’ house — they had to move out for two weeks.
“We’d often watch Channel 4 soap ‘Brookside’ at the palace together while I was doing her hair and I went on a number of her official trips.”
And the beauty expert has revealed Diana – who had sons Prince William, 34, and Prince Harry, 32, with her former partner Prince Charles – had a terrible habit of biting her fingernails, but soon overcame the problem and was “proud” of her long talons.
Sam explained: “In the end, this iconic image of her in a black turtleneck with short hair, resting her chin on her hands, was the cover in December 1991. She had just stopped biting her nails and was so proud of how they looked.
“I loved Diana looking more spontaneous. She even looked great coming out of the gym with freshly showered hair.
“Even though she was a bit nervous, she was still open to new ideas regarding her look.”

The Prince of Wales doesn't like the Royal Variety Performance

OHMYGOSSIP — The Prince of Wales doesn’t like the Royal Variety Performance, according to Michael McIntyre.
The 68-year-old royal is often accompanied by other members of the royal family including his wife the Duchess of Cornwall – who is also known as Camilla Parker Bowles – and his mother the Queen for the annual entertainment bash, which was set up to raise money for the Royal Variety Charity.
However, Prince Charles has openly admitted to the 40-year-old comedian he dislikes the event, although he swiftly regretted his confession.
Speaking on BBC Radio One, Michael – who has hosted the star-studded do for four years – said: “I said to Prince Charles ‘Do you like the Royal Variety’ and he just went ‘No. Sorry, I probably shouldn’t have said that.’ he quickly added.”
And the dark-haired funny man has joked the royal family dread choosing what member will go and dwell over who has to attend every year.
He quipped: “It obviously comes up anyway, like ‘God who is going to do it this year’.”
Although Charles’ youngest son Prince Harry, 32, appeared to enjoy last year’s bash, Buckingham Palace and the royal families representatives have yet to confirm who will be attending this year’s ceremony.
This year’s Royal Variety show is set to take place at the usual London hotspot, which is the Hammersmith Apollo on December 6.
Whilst the Aftershow Party and Banquet to follow is set to take place in the Ballroom and great Room of the Grosvenor House hotel, which is situated along Park Lane, London, where all artists and performers appearing on the show are invited to relax for the evening.

Prince William and Prince Harry will honour Princess Diana with special tribute

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William and Prince Harry are set to honour their late mother Princess Diana with special tribute.
The royal brothers – who are the children of Prince Charles and Diana – are overseeing the plans for the forthcoming event, which is taking place inside and outside of Kensington Palace, to mark the 20th anniversary of the royal’s death in 1997.
Speaking to the Daily Express newspaper, a spokesperson for the Historic Royal Palaces said: “The Duke and Prince Harry have been supportive. They’ve seen the plans.”
William, 34, and Harry, 32, are set to install a temporary memorial in the form of a White Garden in the grounds, which will include flowers including tulips, forget-me-nots and white roses that have been selected to suit the late Princess of Wales’ preferences.

Prince William wants to know how Vietnam will 'tackle' the illegal wildlife trade

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William is eager to know how Vietnam will “tackle the challenges” of the illegal wildlife trade.
The 34-year-old royal is currently on a two-day official visit to Vietnam to highlight the effects of illegal trade, which saw him visit a traditional medicine store in Hanoi known for its traditional pharmaceutical methods, which William was “looking forward” to because he was eager to speak to the pharmacist about their use of rhino horns in their medicine
According to US Weekly, a spokesperson from Kensington Palace said: “[William] said he was looking forward to hearing what Vietnam was doing to tackle the challenges presented by the illegal wildlife trade.”
William – who has three-year-old son Prince George and 18-month-old daughter Princess Charlotte with his wife the Duchess of Cambridge, who is also known as Kate Middleton – believes Vietnam could easily be “leaders in wildlife conservation” and guide the way for other countries to follow in a bid to protect endangered animals, which he fears will be extinct in 25 years.
The spokesman added: “He [William] knows the people of Vietnam will share his concern that we have less than 25 years to save some of our most iconic species from extinction. He believes Vietnam has a real opportunity to be leaders in wildlife conservation.”
And prior to Williams visit ahead of the Third Conference on the Illegal Wildlife Trade, which was held on Thursday (17.11.16), authorities in the area of south-east Asia seized two tonnes of elephant ivory and rhino horns and burned them to stop consumers from using the products.
Meanwhile, the Duke of Cambridge has urged people to enforce a ban on ivory immediately.
Speaking previously, he said: “China has already signalled a total ban, the USA has instituted one, and other nations, including the United Kingdom, are considering it.
“Ivory is not something to be desired and when removed from an elephant it is not beautiful.
“So, the question is: why are we still trading it? We need governments to send a clear signal that trading in ivory is abhorrent.”

The Duke of Cambridge was the main target for people to tackle in rugby matches

OHMYGOSSIP — The Duke of Cambridge was always the main target for people to tackle in rugby, according to Eddie Redmayne.
The 34-year-old actor, who was part of the sporting team at Eton College alongside Prince William, has admitted it was “great” playing in William’s team because the 34-year-old royal was always in the firing line to be bulldozed over by their opposition as their competitors wanted to brag to their parents they tackled the future King of England.
Speaking on the American chat show ‘Watch What Happens Live’ with Andy Cohen, the ‘The Theory of Everything’ star said: “The thing about playing rugby with Prince William is it was great for us, but you would go and want to play but all the people from the other schools would want to tackle him because they could go home and tell their families they tackled Prince William; so we were sort of running around with no-one on us.”
And Eddie has revealed he found it interesting watching his fellow school friends “suck up” to William and his bodyguards.
He said: “I do remember that you would go out and the rugby pitches would be quite far away, and he had bodyguards all over the place and they would drive.
“So there would always be a race to see who suck up to him and bodyguards the most so that they could get a lift to the rugby pitches and back.”
Meanwhile, Eddie – who has five-month-old daughter Iris with his wife Hannah Bagshawe – has revealed he has recently bumped into the father-of-two and has admitted the pair “bonded” on parenthood and feeling more mature since their old school days.
He said: “I saw him recently at a charity event and he was on very good form – and we bonded over new born children so we felt grown up and old.”

Prince Charles makes elderly care quip

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles has joked he knows “exactly” what elderly care is “all about” after turning 68.
The Prince of Wales made the quip at a St James’s Palace reception to mark the 60th anniversary of Abbeyfield, a charity which provides housing for those in later life, and admitted he couldn’t believe he’s been a patron of the group for 37 years.
He told the attendees: “It’s been for me an enormous pleasure to be your patron for 37 years, which I discovered to my horror this morning. You’ve been very good to put up with me for this long.
“It is one of the great examples of how elderly people can be cared for and thank goodness you’re there to do exactly that.
“So, ladies and gentlemen, many congratulations and I hope there will be many, many more years of even greater success in looking after elderly people – having reached the age I have, I begin to understand exactly what it’s all about.”
Singer Aled Jones – who is a patron of the charity – was also at the event, and led some belated birthday celebrations for Charles, who turned 68 on Monday (14.11.16), by singing him ‘Happy Birthday’ at the end of the reception.
The 45-year-old star praised the charity for helping the elderly to feel they have a place in society.
He said: “It’s a horrible thing in our society, we forget about these people and treat them as rather a nuisance and this charity is totally the opposite.”

Prince Harry considering Meghan security guard

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry is considering personally funding a security guard to protect his girlfriend Meghan Markle.
The 32-year-old royal has grown concerned about the ‘Suits’ star’s safety since they started dating in recent months, and as a result he is said to be thinking about splashing out on a retired Scotland Yard Personal Protection Officer to look after her when she visits the UK.
A senior inside security source said: “There have been initial discussions about this matter.
“HRH has made it clear that he believes Miss Markle’s personal safety is paramount and that the behaviour of some elements of the media and press has been grossly unacceptable.
“But in the end it comes down to a matter of cost, who is paying for what. Protecting the Royal Family is a hugely expensive business.”
Harry’s late mother Princess Diana’s former personal protection officer, Inspector Ken Wharfe, admitted it is “extremely unlikely” the Metropolitan Police headquarters would fork out for security for the 35-year-old star, but insisted it would be “sensible” for Harry to pay for protection for her.
He added to The London Evening Standard newspaper: “It is extremely unlikely that Scotland Yard would fund protection for Miss Markle at this stage.
“In America and Canada where she lives she is well used to the attention she gets as a star actress.
“Should, however, Prince Harry fund a retired, and therefore unarmed, ex S014 officer to accompany her whilst in the UK I think it would be a sensible move.”

Prince Harry calls on HIV suffers to speak up

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry has called on HIV suffers to speak up about the virus.
The 32-year-old royal visited the Joyful Noise choir, a HIV singing group working with sexual health charity Naz Project London, in Fulham, west London yesterday (15.11.16), and urged members to talk about their illness to help remove the stigma attached to it.
He told them: “I don’t believe we can really smash the stigma unless people like yourselves are willing to talk.
“Not talking about something can actually kill you. People are happy to talk about their youngest child having cancer that might even kill them but the other child who has HIV, they don’t talk about that.
“Thirty years ago it was pretty much a death sentence but so many people have put blood, sweat and tears into essentially fixing the problem. For some reason though there is a large group of people who don’t know that things have come so far.
“We have got to do this and people have got to hear it from you. They don’t want to hear it from me.”
The flame-haired prince helped to raise awareness of HIV himself by taking a test in July which was broadcast live on Facebook.
Some members of the choir told him it was one of the “greatest things” he’s ever done, and he replied: “It was one of the easiest things I ever did.”
At the time, Juley Ayres, communications manager at Mildmay Mission Hospital in east London, said: “Many of our patients feel afraid to disclose the fact that they are living with HIV because of stigma, and this can cause enormous anxiety. Stigma and discrimination is cited as one of the main reasons why people are reluctant to get tested, disclose their HIV status and take antiretroviral drugs.
“As an organisation, we are deeply impressed and heartened to witness the work Prince Harry is doing to break down stigma, encourage testing and raise HIV awareness. We feel privileged to be able to support this work in any way we can.”

Princess Diana fashion exhibit to open

OHMYGOSSIP — A Princess Diana fashion exhibition will open next year to commemorate the 20th anniversary of her death.
The late Princess of Wales died in a car crash in Paris in August 1997 aged just 36, and her sons Princes William and Harry have given their blessing for the Diana: Her Fashion Story exhibit to take place at her former Kensington Palace home, where they now reside.
Several of the late royal’s memorable garments which are now in museums or owned by private collectors will be loaned to the Palace to feature in the display.
Eleri Lynn, the exhibition’s curator, said: “Diana, Princess of Wales was one of the most photographed women in the world, and every fashion choice she made was closely scrutinised.
“Our exhibition explores the story of a young woman who had to quickly learn the rules of royal and diplomatic dressing, who in the process put the spotlight on the British fashion industry and designers.
“We see her growing in confidence throughout her life, increasingly taking control of how she was represented, and intelligently communicating through her clothes.”
One of the dresses which will be exhibited is the Victor Edelstein outfit she wore for her final official portrait which was snapped up for £240,000 by a British collector in 2013 after an America businesswoman, who had previously purchased it for £100,000 at a charity auction, had put it up for sale.

Meghan Markle 'head over heels' for Prince Harry

OHMYGOSSIP — Meghan Markle has fallen “head over heels” for Prince Harry.
The 35-year-old actress is said to be living an “absolute fairy tale” since she started dating the 32-year-old royal and is hoping the pair can live happily ever after.
A friend of the ‘Suits’ star who runs her lifestyle website The Tig said: “[She is] doing everything she can to make the relationship work.
“It’s been an absolute fairy tale for Meghan.”
The brunette beauty’s friend believes Meghan would quit her social media accounts and website “without hesitation” if she needed to do so to have a long-term relationship with the prince.
The pal added to PEOPLE magazine: “She’s trying to figure out how to scale back what she puts out there about her life, including her social media and her website.
“If she had to leave all that she’s doing in order for the relationship to work, she would without hesitation.
“It’s a very serious relationship and she wants a future with Harry.”
Harry recently hit out at online trolls who had attacked his girlfriend on social media following speculation they were dating.
A statement released by Kensington Palace read: “His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. Some of this has been very public … the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.
“Prince Harry is worried about Ms Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say this is ‘the price she has to pay’ and that ‘this is all part of the game’. He strongly disagrees. This is not a game – it is her life and his.”

The garden will be created at her former Kensington Palace home – where her sons Princes William and Harry now live – and planted with an array of beautiful flowers, including white roses, and forget me nots around the current Sunken Garden at the royal establishment.
A spokeswoman for Historic Royal Palaces told the Daily Express newspaper: “The duke and Prince Harry have been supportive. They’ve seen the plans.”

The HRP spokeswoman added: “A lot of our gardeners have been here a long time and they remember the Princess and how she particularly liked this sunken garden.
“It was somewhere she used to pass by and have a chat with the gardeners and ask about what they were planting. She took a lot of interest in it.”
Sean added: “We hope to capture the energy and spirit which made (the Princess) such a popular figure around the world.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir David Attenborough has praised Queen Elizabeth for “thinking about the future”.
The 90-year-old TV presenter enjoyed a chat with the 90-year-old monarch at a reception for the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy (QCC) – a project aiming to great a worldwide network of protected Commonwealth forests – at Buckingham Palace last night (15.11.16).
Speaking at the event, he said: “I am immensely grateful to Your Majesty for showing great leadership by putting your name to the Commonwealth Canopy.
“We are fortunate that you are still thinking about the future and how to make this a better world.”
David and Elizabeth were seen enjoying a laugh and joke together at the event, which was also attended by Prince Philip, Princess Anne and Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.
The brainchild of the initiative, Labour MP Frank Field, was also there and he emphasised the importance of the project.
He said: “It seemed an obvious way for the Commonwealth to do politics in a different way because now it’s the second biggest organisation responsible for rainforests after Brazil.
“So the Commonwealth has a place at the top table when we’re discussing the future of rainforests in a way it never had when it was just wonderful pieces of forest here and there.”

Princess Diana was big Brookside fan

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Diana used to watch ‘Brookside’ with her hair stylist. Sam McKnight has revealed he and the Princess of Wales – who was tragically killed in a car crash aged 36 in 1997 – used to sit down to watch the Channel 4 soap of an evening when he was working on her tresses.

He said: “I saw Diana every week when I was in London – we’d often watch Channel 4 soap ‘Brookside’ at the Palace together while I was doing her hair and I went on a number of her official trips.”

As well as styling the hair of several celebrities, including Cindy Crawford, Sam is known for creating the late royal’s crop look and admits he had “no idea” how much attention he would come under after cutting off Diana’s locks.

In a piece for the Daily Mail newspaper, he wrote: “She asked me, ‘What would you do with my hair if I gave you free rein?’ Feeling brave, I said, ‘I would cut it all off.’

“She was convinced immediately.

“‘Let’s do it,’ she said. So I cut it off there and then. I had no idea what was about to ensue. The style became front page news and there were journalists camped outside my parents’ house — they had to move out for two weeks.

“That was one of the cuts that women suddenly wanted. You saw it everywhere — on the High Street, on newsreaders – it was a real counterpoint to big Eighties hair, part of a sportier, more androgynous look, but, because it was Princess Diana, it was still hugely feminine.”

Meghan Markle's brother advises Prince Harry

OHMYGOSSIP — Meghan Markle’s half-brother has asked Prince Harry to “take good care” of his sister.
The ‘Suits’ star’s sibling Thomas is pleased she is dating the 32-year-old royal and has invited him to come over to North America to spend time with her family if he intends to pop the question to the brunette beauty.
He said: “I have to be the older brother and say, ‘Take good care of her.’
“She needed someone who could keep up with her.
“I think Harry fits the bill. If he does want to marry her, he’d have to come over and hang with us for a little bit.”
Thomas admitted Harry couldn’t have asked for a “more proper” person to date than the actress.
He said: “You couldn’t ask for a more proper, well-spoken person than Meg.
“She has everything a good woman should have.”
Thomas also played down recent comments made by her half-sister Samantha Grant, who slammed Meghan as a “shallow social climber” who always wanted to be a princess and is “narcissistic and selfish”.
He added to Grazia magazine: “Samantha hasn’t seen her in 30 years. What she said wasn’t nice.
“Why would anybody want to try and ruin something for someone who has achieved so much, and who is in love?”
Samantha recently said: “The royal family would be appalled by what she’s done to her own family. The truth would kill her relationship with Prince Harry, he wouldn’t want to date her anymore because it puts her in a bad public light.
“I certainly don’t think Harry or his family would want to associate with her afterwards.”

Prince Harry 'compatible' with Meghan Markle

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are “compatible”.
The couple have been dating for a matter of months but her half-brother Thomas believes they are meant to be and doesn’t foresee an issue with the ‘Suits’ star living in the public eye, which is one of the rumoured reasons he split from exes Chelsy Davy and Cressida Bonas.
He told Grazia magazine: “If that’s one of his concerns about Meghan it shouldn’t be. She’s been in front of the camera for 15 years.
“I can absolutely picture a royal wedding.
“Meghan has worked so hard to get to where she is now, and to be able to meet someone who is compatible is every girl’s dream. Who wouldn’t want that?”
The 32-year-old royal’s former butler Grant Harrold – who worked for Prince Charles, William and Harry for seven years – echoes Thomas’ thoughts, admitting he thinks 35-year-old Meghan could be “The One” for the flame-haired royal.
In an interview authorised by Clarence House, he recently said: “Harry loves her and she loves him. That will be what matters in the eyes of the queen and Prince Charles.
“I don’t see any reason why Meghan couldn’t be The One.”
William’s wife Duchess Catherine – who he has three-year-old son Prince George and 18-month-old daughter Princess Charlotte with – is also said to be delighted for Harry.
A source recently said: “Kate is thrilled Harry has finally found a girlfriend who looks like being a keeper.
“Kate only wants the best for her lovely brother-in-law – and Meghan looks like she fits the bill.”

Prince Philip opens Design Museum

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Philip has opened a new Design Museum.
The Duke of Edinburgh, 95, unveiled a plaque at the £83 million building on Kensington High Street, London, yesterday (14.11.16), where he was shown a mini exhibition of popular consumer goods but was shocked to see a red bucket on display.
He said: “A bucket?!”
Among the 250 items from 25 countries on display in the museum were an egg cup, washing up gloves, a bike and several household items.
Sir Terence Conran, who founded the Design Museum and household furnishings company Habitat, admitted he wants the establishment to become a “meeting place” for creatives.
He is quoted by the Evening Standard as saying: “I wanted it to be a place where the creative industries call home, because we have a members’ room, a restaurant and I want it to become a meeting place.
“Getting around the building has been so brilliantly done.
“My career has been about trying to improve the quality of life for people, and design can do this. And I hope this museum can contribute to improving the quality of life.”
The Design Museum will open to the public on November 24.
Another royal keen on design is Phillip’s son, Prince Charles, 68, who has reportedly paid his sister-in-law, Annabel Elliot, £1.5 million for her design services since he wed Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.
