Two Door Cinema Club return with ‘wonky’ disco track Talk

OHMYGOSSIP — Two Door Cinema Club have released their first song in almost three years, ‘Talk’.
The “wonky” disco track was made with the three-piece’s legendary long-time producer Jacknife Lee – who is renowned for his work with U2, The Killers and REM – and follows their 2016 LP ‘Gameshow’, which reached the top 5 in the UK.
Speaking about the track, singer Alex Trimble said: “I love the pop thing. I love experimenting and going to different places, I love doing things that are a little bit wonky and I love the idea of doing something we haven’t done before, why can’t we do all of those things at once?
“That’s what it was, doing whatever felt right … It sounds like Two Door Cinema Club – not a Two Door Cinema Club there’d ever been before but that’s what I love. We can always do something new but it always feels like something we’ve done.”
The band’s return was teased with a series of interactive billboards in London, Paris, Brussels, Berlin, Sydney, New York City and Mexico City, plus an immersive red telephone box in Brighton.
The ‘Undercover Martyn’ group have accompanied the new song with a fun music video helmed by Namibian-German conceptual artist Max Sidentopf – who recently masterminded the ultimate tribute to Toto’s iconic song ‘Africa’ by setting up a sound installation in the middle of the Namib desert in southern Africa.
The new single comes hot off the heels of Two Door Cinema Club – which is completed by guitarist Sam Halliday and bassist Kevin Baird – being confirmed to perform at Glastonbury Festival this June.
They will also play BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Middlesbrough, plus UK festivals including Tramlines, Y-Not, Truck and more.
‘Talk’ – which was BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac’s ‘Hottest Record In The World’ on Monday night (18.03.19) – is out now.

Dolly-Rose Campbell: Gemma Winter couldn’t cope with quadruplets

OHMYGOSSIP — Dolly-Rose Campbell doesn’t think Gemma Winter could cope with quadruplets.
The ‘Coronation Street’ star has weight in on reports her character and on-screen boyfriend Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) are set to become parents to four children on the cobbles, and the actress isn’t convinced her alter ego will be able to deal with the quartet of new arrivals.
Asked on ‘Good Morning Britain’ if Gemma could handle it, she laughed: “Absolutely! Not Nope… I don’t know anything about [the storyline]. I hope not!”
Her comments come after reports last month that the ITV soap is lining up the funny storyline for the two characters, with kebab shop worker set to impregnate the Rovers Return barmaid.
A source recently said: “The show’s new boss, Iain MacLeod, is keen to inject a bit of old-fashioned humour into ‘Coronation Street’ like in the years gone by and this storyline will have viewers in stitches.”
While the audience may be chuckling, Gemma will be doing some sums as she tries to work out how the quads can leave her quids in.”
The insider added: “Gemma doesn’t miss a trick and instantly thinks of ways she can make some dosh out of her and Chesney’s unexpected news.”
Show boss Iain has previously opened up about comedy on the cobbles, and said the show needs to strike a balance in tone.
He said: “‘Corrie’ has done really well for 60 years before I got here and hopefully continue to do extremely well for another 60 years after I’ve gone and therefore I am the custodian of that DNA and tone – I don’t intend to do anything radically different.
“If I’m going to do anything it’s to focus on balancing dark stuff with lighter stuff, and with comedy and character which is what people first fell in love with about ‘Corrie.’ ”

Jane Seymour wants Coronation Street role

OHMYGOSSIP — Jane Seymour wants a role on ‘Coronation Street’.
The 68-year-old actress thinks it would be “fun” to land a guest role on the cobbles after her friends Sir Ian McKellen and Nigel Havers previously enjoyed stints in Weatherfield.
She said: “My friend Ian McKellen told me, ‘You’ve got to do ‘Corrie’ and I thought, ‘Yes, why not.’
“If they called me, and I could go there and do it and have some fun with it, then yes. It’s a cult thing. Nigel Havers went to school with me and he was in ‘Corrie’ for a bit.”
Sir Ian appeared on the ITV show for 10 episodes in 2005 as conman novelist Mel Hutchwright, while Nigel portrayed Lewis Archer on and off over the years – first appearing in 2009 – until his character’s death in January 2019.
However, Jane – who is in a relationship with director and producer David Green – admitted despite being keen on a role, she hasn’t actually seen the ITV soap for several decades.
She added to Closer magazine: “I haven’t actually seen it since Ena Sharples was in it. My boyfriend David started out on ‘Emmerdale’ and that’s still going strong.”
The London-born star now lives in Malibu, California, but loves returning to the UK several times a year.
She said: “I go back to England all the time – I love everything about it. I’m an AmeriBrit. I’ve definitely not lost my accent, but I can do an American accent, absolutely.”
The ‘Somewhere in Time’ actress – who was previously married to Michael Attenborough, Geoffrey Planer, David Flynn and James Keach – previously opened up about aging, and admitted she feels sexier now than when she was younger.
She said: “I feel much sexier now than I ever did when I was younger. Then I was like, ‘Oh gosh, I’m supposed to be sexy. What is that?!’
“There’s an enormous freedom in having lived as long as I have. Like my father used to say, I’m comfortable in my own skin.”

James Jordan wants to gain weight

OHMYGOSSIP — James Jordan is planning to “stuff [his] face” now ‘Dancing On Ice’ is over.
The 40-year-old dancer’s wife Ola wasn’t too impressed with the amount of weight he lost while training for the show and after he and professional partner Alexandra Schauman won the competition earlier this month, the first thing he did to celebrate was order a takeaway and he’s looking forward to piling on some pounds again.
He said: “Ola thinks I’m too skinny now. I have probably lost too much weight.
“I needed to at the beginning and then I couldn’t stop losing weight because I was training so much.
“But the first thing I did when I got home after the final was to order an Indian takeaway.
“Plus I’ll be having shoulder surgery soon, so that’s three months recovery, sitting at home and stuffing my face.”
When he was a professional dancer on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, James was known for standing up to the judges but he didn’t think he was in a position to argue with the Ice Panel – plus none of them “annoyed” him enough.
He told heat magazine: “On ‘Strictly’ I was always defending my celebs. But when people are giving me critique, I’m not going to start arguing with them.
“I don’t think I’ve changed as a person – maybe I’m a little older, a little wiser – but still outspoken.
“No one did or said anything that annoyed me!”
And the former ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ star was very proud to win ‘Dancing On Ice’ because he had to work so hard.
He said: “Dancing is what I’ve studied my whole life but to win as the person who is being judged and critiques felt even more sweet.
“I had to push myself harder than I’ve ever pushed myself before, because skating is so difficult. I found muscles I never realised I had.”

Lupita Nyong’o hails ‘refreshing’ portrayal of an African-American family in Us

OHMYGOSSIP — Lupita Nyong’o has hailed the “refreshing” portrayal of a black family in Jordan Peele’s new movie ‘Us’.
The 36-year-old actress “loved how unremarkable” it was that the lead characters in the psychological horror were an African-American middle class family and the fact that their ethnicity was irrelevant to the film’s plot.
Speaking to Sky News, she said: “I loved how unremarkable it was that they were black, because I often feel quite unremarkable, I don’t live my life always considering the colour of my skin and it was nice to have that.
“A family that we could project our own understanding of a family on to no matter what colour our skin is, and that the paradigms to which they were navigating this particular monster had nothing to do with the colour of their skin. Yeah, that’s refreshing.”
The ‘Black Panther’ star – who is of Kenyan descent – knows that Jordan wants to make movies focused on black lead characters and she respects what he did with ‘Get Out’ and now with ‘Us’.
She said: “I was like, ‘Wow, it’s about time!’ ”
The film follows Adelaide Wilson (Lupita) and her husband Gabe Wilson (Winston Duke) as they travel to stay at the beachfront home where Adelaide grew up as a child only to be terrorised by a family of doppelgangers.
Lupita has confessed that she felt “pressure” appearing in Peele’s latest horror romp following the success of his 2017 horror hit ‘Get Out’.
Speaking to Vogue, she said: “Of course it dawned on me that I’m going to be the lead in [Jordan Peele’s] sophomore film – all eyes are on him; his eyes are on me.
“There’s a level of pressure that I experienced. I had a reverence for him, and I realised that reverence kills creativity. I had to work my way out of that to a place of respect so that I could respect myself enough to offer my talent and trust myself enough to contribute to his vision, rather than being dwarfed by it.”

Matthew McConaughey wanted for lead in The Brigands of Rattlecreek

OHMYGOSSIP — Matthew McConaughey has been eyed for a lead role in ‘The Brigands of Rattlecreek’.
It was reported in 2015 that ‘Stoker’ director Park Chan-Wook was on board to direct the film – known at the time as ‘The Brigands of Rattleborge’ – however Amazon has since picked up the film and is courting the 49-year-old actor to star.
The script has been penned by S. Craig Zahler and centres on a group of bandits who use a torrential thunderstorm as cover to rob a small town however encounter a local doctor who decides to take revenge on the thieves.
‘Dallas Buyers Club’ star McConaughey is being considered for the role of the doctor who must team up with the town’s Sheriff – who is yet to be cast – to reap revenge on the criminals.
McConaughey recently reunited with his ‘Interstellar’ co-star Anne Hathaway in the Steven Knight-directed thriller ‘Serenity’ which follows his fisherman alter ego Baker Dill whose peaceful life is shattered when his ex-wife Karen (Hathaway) tracks him down desperate for help to escape her abusive husband.
The ‘Dazed and Confused’ actor previously admitted that the ‘Ocean’s 8’ star was one of his few true friends in the movie business and revealed they maintain an off-screen relationship.
He said: “For me, this business and relations at work are transitory.
“By design you’re closer with most people at the time when you’re working because it’s intense. You’re working together and then you go on a press tour and you’re around each other and you’re with each other’s families and then, poof, you go away. And I don’t have that many relationships that I maintain.
“Anne and I don’t call each other every week, (but) we do still keep in touch.”

James Moore says disabled actors are best choice for disabled characters

OHMYGOSSIP — James Moore says disabled actors “will always” be the best choices for disabled characters.
The ‘Emmerdale’ star – who has ataxic cerebral palsy – has spoken out after Perry Mattfield was cast as a blind woman who is the only witness to her friend’s murder in CW’s upcoming drama ‘In The Dark’.
Taking to Twitter to voice his opinion on the matter, James said: “Yet another show casting a non disabled actor in a disabled role.
“At the end of the day- the product will suffer. The best actor to play a disabled part will always be disabled themselves. The difference is in life experience. No matter the character.”
His comments come after the show’s bosses claimed they “immediately” searched for a blind actress for the role, before deciding to cast Perry “because she was the best actor for the role”.
Soap star James – who won the National Television Award for Best Newcomer earlier this year – has previously opened up about the challenges of life as a disabled actor, and said while the situation is improving, there is still a lot of work to be done.
He said at the time: “Honestly, it’s enough to win an NTA anyway and to have the public behind it. But I think this means that we’re doing great things for people with disabilities.
“We’re getting more diverse in society and more open and more accommodating. However, we still need more disabled voices because I don’t think that there are enough in public at the moment.”
He also urged fans not to “feel sorry” for him because of his disability.
He explained: “Please don’t feel sorry for me. I’m not struggling, I haven’t had a hard life especially not for the past few years.I’m happy. Having a disability doesn’t mean we’re unhappy, or we need sympathy. (sic)”

Maggie Rogers: ‘My style is San Francisco art teacher’

OHMYGOSSIP — Maggie Rogers’ personal style is a mix between a “space cowgirl” and “San Francisco art teacher”.
The 24-year-old songstress likes to add a lot of different elements to her outfits and switch-up her wardrobe to find a “middle ground” between playing a character in an elaborate costume and dressing down in casual wear.
Speaking US Vogue, she said: “It was easier for me to play a character onstage, to dress up and suit up to access this performance mentality.
“I do like that sometimes, but I also want to make sure that it’s enough if I just show up in whatever I’m wearing.
“I’m finding some middle ground between these elements. I want my performances to be fun. Some nights I’ll wear jeans and a T-shirt and others I’ll wear this velvet zebra-print two-piece.”
“I like glitter, I like fringe, I like shiny things. I also like raw fabrics. I guess at this moment, I describe my personal style as a mix between a space cowgirl and a San Francisco art teacher.”
The ‘Alaska’ hitmaker – who toured with British band Mumford & Sons last year – feels her style is “always evolving” because she likes to experiment with “different” garments to complete her onstage persona.
She added: “There are different expectations for your wardrobe depending on your gender and your genre. Women in rock are still very different than women in pop, and also, like when I was on tour with Mumford & Sons, they would just get onstage in whatever they were wearing that day. Most female performers feel like they can’t get away with that. I like for my style to be almost so perfectly not a part of the story.
“Personal style, like music, is something that is always evolving. I like a lot of different things and that’s just who I am.”

Raye partners with Timberland to launch sneakers

OHMYGOSSIP — Raye has partnered with Timberland to launch their new Delphiville sneaker.
The 21-year-old songstress – who became the face of the iconic footwear brand last year – has joined forces with the label to release an exclusive short film, which is set in the tropical palm house at Kew Gardens, to introduce the highly-anticipated trainers.
Raye joins ’Bestie’ rapper Yungen as the second artist to feature in ’The Green Room’, a concept which seeks to celebrate the culture of green spaces in our cities, and the singer loved being on set because “green spaces” were a big part of her creative space as a child.
She said: “Growing up in South London green spaces provided a little haven for me, I used to sneak out of the house and run to the park to write down poems and lyric ideas. Today, I still like to take time to escape and spend a moment just being in nature, I think it’s so important for your wellbeing.
The ‘Friends’ hitmaker also admitted that she has been surrounded by powerful “role models” her whole life.
She said: “I had a lot of role models growing up and I have a long strong powerful women in my life. Being a role model to other young women is pretty cool and if I can inspire anybody through the music I make or the journey I’ve taken and people watching me on that journey, it feels amazing and I want other people to feel like they can achieve it too.”
In the short video, as well as reflecting upon her experiences, influences and choices, Raye also performs a brief snippet of her song ‘Confidence’.

Michael Bublé: It’s overwhelming on stage

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Bublé finds it “overwhelming” being on stage.
The ‘Lost’ hitmaker admits it can sometimes be emotional for him when he steps onto the stage as he sees his fans in the audience like family.
He said: “I’ll never use the word ‘fan’. I think it’s a s****y word. It’s short for ‘fanatical’, and I think that’s negative. I don’t think these are fanatics.
“I think these are beautiful human beings who need as much love, and who give as much love, as anybody else. When I’m standing there on stage, it’s emotional for me. Sometimes I can control that emotion and sometimes I can’t … It’s overwhelming. I feel overwhelmed … and grateful [when I’m onstage]. I didn’t know if I was ever going to come back.”
And the 43-year-old singer – who has Noah, five, Elias, three, and Vida, seven months, with his wife Luisana Lopilato – feels “so deeply connected” to his fanbase and credits them for helping him get through his eldest son’s cancer battle.
Speaking to Pop Culture Beast, he added: “I feel so deeply connected to all those beautiful souls in the audience; I don’t feel there is a difference between us. The truth is, they’re singing just as much as I am. We laugh together, we dance together, and we cry together. The truth is, I would never have gotten through what I got through [his son’s cancer battle] without them.”
Meanwhile, Michael previously insisted he handled fame “poorly”.
He said: “Fame stunts your growth. I handled it very poorly. I regret the way I treated a lot of my family and even myself. I was reckless with hearts. But I got my karma. Early on, I wasn’t equipped to handle it. That’s why you have to have people around you who love you enough to put you in your place … We all battle with our own demons. A lot changed when I had kids.”

Lupita Nyong’o calls for inclusive film industry

OHMYGOSSIP — Lupita Nyong’o says everybody must play a part to encourage more women into the film industry.
The ’12 Years A Slave’ star feels it is down to the “consciousness of every individual” to see how they can do their bit to make the industry a safer and more inclusive place for women – whether that be as actresses or behind the cameras.
Speaking to Vogue.co.uk, she said: “When you have people like Regina King stand up and say, ‘hey, my next project is going to be 50 percent women’, it wakes people up to realise that everyone has a role to play in creating or influencing the inclusive world we all so badly want to see. It forces you to think, ‘Okay, what can I do in my little sphere of influence?’ It’s the consciousness of every individual to make that change.”
Lupita had previously admitted she feels she has a responsibility to promote diversity in Hollywood.
She explained: “Films inspire people to feel differently. A lot more can be done. We can be more empathetic when we realise how much more alike we are than how different we are. You see, I don’t like to fight the reality.
“The reason it is so acute is because of the stage we are at. When we are talking about inclusion in entertainment, it’s because entertainment isn’t inclusive and, until such a time as that becomes the norm, then this work has to be done … I feel an impetus to say something because this is a conversation that very directly affects me, and my career, and my role in the world. But I don’t belabour it.”
