OHMYGOSSIP — Lady Gaga is reportedly spending her birthday “recharging” in Cabo San Lucas with close friends.
The ‘A Star Is Born’ actress and singer turned 33 on Thursday (28.03.19), and to ring in the special day, she’s reportedly jetted out to the popular Mexican resort city of Cabo, where she often likes to travel when she needs to unwind.
A source told People magazine: “Gaga flew to Mexico earlier this week to celebrate her birthday with close friends. She likes to recharge in Cabo and often visits. The group has a private chef and has mostly been hanging out by the pool. She has a private dinner planned for her birthday.”
Gaga last visited Cabo for Valentine’s Day (14.02.19), which came just days before news broke that she’d called it quits with fiancé Christian Carino.
An insider said at the time: “The weather was amazing. They took a yacht out one day. Gaga enjoyed a lot of pool time … It seemed like the most perfect vacation. Yet, you could tell everything was not great with Gaga. She seemed a bit gloomy and low energy. On previous vacations, she has had much more energy and looked happier. It was obvious that she was going through something.”
At the time of writing it’s not known who the ‘Million Reasons’ hitmaker is spending time with in Cabo, but she was recently reported to be hanging out a lot with ‘Avengers’ star Jeremy Renner.
Sources say the pair have been “spending time together” recently, and have speculated a romance could be blossoming between the pair.
When she gets back from her vacation though, she’s likely to head straight back into the studio to work on her new album, after she recently teased “LG6” was coming at the same time as dismissing pregnancy rumours.
Earlier this month, she tweeted: “Rumors I’m pregnant? Yeah, I’m pregnant with #LG6 (sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — James Arthur is being “crippled by anxiety”.
The 31-year-old musician was due to perform at a charity show for the Teenage Cancer Trust at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Thursday (28.03.19) night, but in a note posted to Twitter just hours before the concert, he announced he’d be pulling out for the sake of his mental health, which he says has been “badly affecting” him for “days”.
In his message, he wrote: “I’m deeply sorry to announce that I’m going to have to pull out of the Teenage Cancer Trust performance tonight.
“I have been feeling crippled by anxiety and poor mental health over the past few days and it’s badly affecting me. I simply cannot perform tonight.”
The ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ hitmaker then apologised to the Teenage Cancer Trust for dropping out of the show, and declared he is “looking to get help” from a professional for his mental health.
He added: “I would like to profoundly apologise to the amazing Teenage Cancer Trust team, to all that have bought tickets to see me and to the boys from Take That, it was a dream to be able to perform alongside them but devastatingly I cannot perform this evening.
“I promise I will make it up to you and I’m looking to get help for this x”
James has previously struggled with his mental health, and once called himself a “tortured soul”.
He said: “I’ve been a tortured soul. I’ve been through a lot of heartache so I definitely put that in my music. It’s where I express it the best. That’s the thing I rely on the most.”
Talking about growing up in foster care, he added: “It was a bit scary. I lived with a lady who’d taken up fostering children and they were always fairly troubled kids. There was a lot of tension because you’d be fighting a lot and looking over your shoulder. And I just wanted to be back with my sisters and my family. But it probably toughened me up in a good way. I learnt the value of family through that.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Gigi Hadid is “still very single”, despite her ex-boyfriend Zayn Malik’s recent public confession of love.
The former One Direction star took to Twitter this month to tell Gigi – whom he began dating in 2015, and whom he has been on and off with since last year – he loves her, but according to sources the tweet wasn’t an indication they’ve rekindled their romance, as it has now been claimed Gigi still doesn’t think he’s “compatible” with her.
A source told Us Weekly magazine: “Gigi and Zayn still talk. She still has feelings for him, of course, but he has major issues and she knows they aren’t compatible. She’s still very single.”
Gigi, 23, and Zayn, 26, first split up in March last year before reconciling in April, and were believed to have split once again in January.
Sources at the time claimed the blonde beauty “tried hard to make it work,” but it was reported the ‘Pillowtalk’ hitmaker had “a lot of his own issues that she couldn’t help him get through.”
Gigi was also believed to have “cut herself off from all her friends every time they were together. She focused all her time and energy on him, but it just got to be too much.”
Following Zayn’s public love confession to Gigi, he later tweeted an apology, though he didn’t specify what he was apologising for, and he took down the tweet just hours after posting it.
It read: “I’d like apologize for basically being a s**t person, (sic)”
After his words sparked concern from his fans, he insisted he is doing well, but “could be happier”.
He added in another tweet: “Currently happy, could be happier. Thanks for all the love and thoughts yesterday just had a vent ha x (sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicolas Cage has filed for an annulment of his marriage, just four days after tying the knot.
The ‘Con Air’ actor – who was previously wed to Alice Kim, Lisa Marie Presley and Patricia Arquette – made a court application for a license in Clark County, Nevada, on Saturday (23.03.19) and reportedly tied the knot with his partner Erika Koike on the same day.
But it seems the marriage wasn’t to be, as TMZ has reported that on Wednesday (27.03.19), just four days after getting married, the 55-year-old actor filed new court documents asking for the union to be annulled.
Annulments are awarded when a marriage is legally void, which Nicolas is believed to be arguing based on him being intoxicated when the pair wed in Las Vegas.
However, court documents claim that if annulment is not awarded, Nicolas will pursue a full legal divorce to terminate the four-day marriage.
Nicolas – who lives in Las Vegas – has largely kept his relationship with the make-up artist out of the spotlight but they were first romantically linked in April 2018 when Erika was seen with him in Puerto Rico while Nicolas shot a movie.
Last October, Nicolas admitted he was “shocked” when he and Alice – the mother of his 13-year-old son Kal-El – split in January 2016 shortly before he started shooting his movie ‘Mandy’.
He said: “It was a shocker for me – I definitely didn’t see it coming, and those feelings had to go somewhere, so they went into the performance.”
Before marrying Alice, Nicolas – who also has son Weston, 27, with former partner Christina Fulton – was wed to Lisa Marie for several months in 2002 and Patricia from 1995 to 2001 but he doesn’t “count” their marriages as real.
He said: “I don’t really count those two marriages, I don’t think they belong on my record. The real marriage for me was the 14 years I had with Alice and the child we have together.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Lauren Pope is leaving ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ after nine years to focus on her relationship with boyfriend Tony Keterman.
The 36-year-old reality star has confirmed she has quit the ITVBe show because she wants to concentrate “wholeheartedly” on her Hair Rehab extensions business and her romance with her new millionaire boyfriend.
Speaking to The Sun Online, she said: “After an amazing nine years on ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ I have decided that now is the natural time for me to leave.
“I am incredibly thankful for the opportunities that the show has brought my way and have loved being part of the cast.
“On top of that, Lime [Pictures, who make the show] have become an extended family to me and I’ll be forever grateful for their guidance and support over the years.
“Nonetheless, I feel now is the time for me to move on so I can focus my attention wholeheartedly on my business ventures and personal relationship.”
Insiders also told the publication that the blonde beauty is welcome back on the show any time for a cameo appearance, and that Lauren met up with the cast at the show’s titles shoot recently.
A source said: “She’s always travelling and her business is hugely successful, so she doesn’t have enough time to appear on ‘TOWIE’ full time.”
A spokesperson for the show added: “We wish Lauren all the best as she focuses on her new relationship and growing business ventures.
“She’s been such a big part of TOWIE’s success and will always be part of our ‘TOWIE’ family. We hope to see her back in Essex soon!”

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicola McLean has confessed her vagina “doesn’t look great” after having two children.
The 37-year-old former glamour model has admitted that after “vaginally” delivering her sons – Rocky, 11, and Striker, seven, with her soccer player husband Tom Williams – her genitals are not in the same condition as before but as a proud woman she’s prepared to embrace her body as it changes.
During a panel discussion on ‘The Jeremy Vine Show’ as to whether or not a bikini wax would help encourage women to attend their smear tests, she said: “I’ve had two children vaginally, my vagina doesn’t look great but I don’t care as long as I haven’t got cancer it’s fine, I don’t care.”
The television personality praised the British business that is offering free bikini waxes to women who can prove they are going for their cervical screening, insisting it is a “great” idea if encourages more self-conscious ladies to take the test – which is a screening to look for potentially precancerous and cancerous processes in the cervix which all women are encouraged to have when they reach the age of 25.
Nicola said: “What I’m saying is if someone’s gonna think, ‘Oh god I’d like to go for a bikini wax and then that would make me be confident to go for a smear test.’ It’s great.”
The panel – which included Rebekah Vardy, the wife of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, and journalist Carol Malone – then discussed whether having a female doctor would make women more likely to attend their appointments and the former ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ star admitted that although she “wouldn’t care” about the gender of her doctor she thinks women should do whatever makes them feel the most comfortable.
Nicola said: “I personally wouldn’t care I think it’s so important to go for smear tests. A male GP a male nurse is just gonna be the same as a woman but whatever you feel comfortable with. Just get it done if you want a female if you want a chaperone it takes five minutes from start to finish.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Isabella Cruise has thanked her Hollywood star dad Tom Cruise for helping her through her Church of Scientology training.
The 26 year old – who is the adopted child of high ranking Scientology member Tom and his ex-wife Nicole Kidman – has spoken out about how her training to become an auditor within the London branch of the unconventional religion was “exactly what she needed” and is the “missing piece” in her life.
An auditor is extensively trained member of the sci-fi cult who helps other members through intense self-examination sessions using an electronic device called the E-meter and encourages those being audited to share traumatic experiences either in this life or past incarnations.
In a lengthy letter posted to Tony Ortega’s blog The Underground Bunker, she writes of her training: “It turned out it was exactly what I needed. I dragged out the testing and correction, just made it through the drilling and then finally began my auditing adventure, and wow, I wasn’t prepared. This IS what I had been searching for. The missing piece. Suddenly everything began to make sense.”
Isabella – who has a brother Connor, 23, who was also adopted by Tom and Nicole – says the course has now shown her “without a doubt” that the “tech” of Scientology works and she is committing her life to the church.
She added: “The internship, for me, is what made me a Scientologist. I don’t just believe the tech works now. I know without any doubt that it does.”
Scientology was created in 1952 by American science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard and is based on the belief that human beings are immortal, that a person’s life experience transcends a single lifetime.
Bizarrely, Hubbard claimed that billions of extra-terrestrial beings were sent to Earth by Xenu – the dictator of the ‘Galactic Confederacy’, comprised of 26 stars and 76 planets including Earth – who gathered them around volcanoes and then destroyed the aliens with hydrogen bombs.
The aliens’ souls attached themselves to chosen humans, known as thetans, who will be one day be saved from their life of spiritual harm.
Isabella went on to praise her dad Tom, 56, and claimed she would have “drowned in her own problems” without the help of the ‘Top Gun’ star.
She wrote: “Thank you to my Dad for everything … I would have drowned in my own problems if you hadn’t been there to sup [sic] me or get me through the preliminaries. It took a whole family and an org to get me here.”

OHMYGOSSIP — George R. R. Martin has admitted there “may be changes” to the TV ending of ‘Game of Thrones’ compared with his plans for the books.
The 70-year-old author began writing his ‘A Song of Fire and Ice’ series in 1991, long before the HBO fantasy drama based on the saga began production, but he has been working on sixth book ‘The Winds of Winter’ – the follow-up to 2011’s ‘A Dance with Dragons’ – for several years, meaning the programme has now forged its own path.
While George confirmed showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have taken the “major points” of his planned ending for the saga, the upcoming eighth season will still have significant differences to what he has mapped out for his remaining novels.
He told Rolling Stone magazine: “I’ve been so slow with these books. The major points of the ending will be things I told them five or six years ago. But there may also be changes, and there’ll be a lot added.”
Meanwhile, though Benioff and Weiss have stayed tight-lipped on the ending to the show, they opened up about their favourite ever TV series finales.
They said in a joint email interview with the publication: “‘Breaking Bad’ stuck the landing. We always talk about the ‘Sopranos’ ending — as controversial as it may have been at the time, it’s hard to imagine a better ending for that show, or any show.”
George recently revealed he has been so busy working on the sixth book in the series that he had to turn down a cameo appearance in the final season of the TV show, which is set to air next month.
He said: “[Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] invited me to a cameo in one of the final episodes, which I was tempted to do.
“But I didn’t think just for the sake of a cameo I could take the time to return to Belfast.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Marcia Cross wants to end the “stigma” around anal cancer.
The 57-year-old actress was diagnosed with the very rare strain of the disease 18-months-ago but was able to beat the illness after undergoing three months of intensive treatment.
Now, the former ‘Desperate Housewives’ star is now trying to end the embarrassment some survivors of the disease feel as she thinks there’s “shame” attached to certain types of cancers.
In an interview with PEOPLE, she said: “I want to help put a dent in the stigma around anal cancer, I’ve read a lot of cancer-survivor stories, and many people, women especially, were too embarrassed to say what kind of cancer they had. There is a lot of shame about it. I want that to stop.”
Marcia has now been in remission for almost a year and the ‘Everwood’ actress revealed that since becoming aware of “it’s important” she is now a “big fan of the anus”.
She said: “Surgery wasn’t recommended, which was a relief. You want to preserve sphincter muscles if possible. Having woken up to its importance, I am now a big fan of the anus!”
The star took to her Instagram account last year to reveal to her followers that she had overcome the disease is “so grateful and happy to be alive”.
She wrote: “So grateful and happy to be alive but sad that my hair fell out and is about 1 inch long now and looks cra cra. Anyone else have #hairloss due to #cancer? Talk to me. I feel you. (sic)
“I am POST cancer. All good now. Hard journey, but I am HEALTHY, happy and more present and grateful than ever. Thank you from the bottom of my ever expanding heart for all of your LOVE. (sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — Judge Rinder has been “amazingly supportive” to his pal Louisa Clein throughout her ‘Emmerdale’ grooming storyline.
The 40-year-old actress is good friends with the TV star – whose real name is Robert Rinder – and he has been her “style advisor” for her latest plot, which has seen her alter-ego Maya Stepney (Louisa Clein) groom her 15-year-old pupil Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant).
She said: “Oh god he loves it, and he’s been amazingly supportive.
“It’s great, because he’s working in Manchester at the moment, so when I’m not filming in Leeds, I’ll often go across there and we’ll hang out a bit.
“He gives me lots of good advice. It’s mostly about what to wear to certain events and how to wear my hair, and what I mustn’t do. He’s my total style advisor.”
Louisa has been pals with Robert for years and he even introduced her to her now-husband, barrister Jeremy Brier, and the TV judge was best man at their wedding.
She said: “He introduced me to my husband Jeremy – they’d been old buddies from university time – and he was our best man.
“Did he do a speech – he was hilarious. My husband’s speech was also hilarious, so they out-speeched each other. And then my husband was best man at his wedding, so he got his own back.”
Louisa has also seen the criminal barrister’s work first-hand, heading down to the cells to meet some of his “unsavory clients”.
She added to Whats On TV magazine: “I shadowed Rob when he was a criminal barrister. I watched lots of his trials, and went down to the cells with him to meet some of his slightly unsavoury clients. It was absolutely fascinating.”
But Louisa isn’t Robert’s only celebrity friend. He is also best mates with Benedict Cumberbatch, who ordained his marriage to Seth Cumming in 2013.
What’s more, Robert was one of the ‘Sherlock’ actor’s three best men when he married Sophie Hunter two years later.

OHMYGOSSIP — Shelby Tribble and Clelia Theodorou say Mike Thalassitis’ death “really hit home”.
The ‘Only Way Is Essex’ stars say they were “hit hard” by the tragic news that ‘Love Island’ star Mike had taken his own life at the age of 26 earlier this month, and admit pressures from their show have left them feeling “stressed out” and with “a lot of worries” at times.
Speaking to The Sun Online, Clelia said: “Everyone has been hit hard, even people who didn’t know Mike. It’s so horrible because it’s one of the biggest tragedies I’ve ever seen.
“He was good looking and such a lovely guy with so much to offer. It really hit home. You never know what people are going through.
“There are times when me and Shelby have been at very low points, stressed out and had a lot of worries, but no one would have been able to tell. It’s hard.”
Best pal Shelby added: “We’re really lucky because everyone at Lime Pictures and ‘TOWIE’ give us so much support and really look after us.”
Fellow ‘TOWIE’ cast member Georgia Kousoulou recently admitted the reality star’s death “really hit home” after her boyfriend Tommy Mallet’s own mental health battle.
She said: “Do you know what, mental health is a hard thing, god bless Mike and his family. That really shook me up. It really hit home for me because Tommy was in that place.
“He was in a bad way through summer, it really scared me because I wish Mike would have opened up to anyone, or even me.
“I didn’t know him but I had gone through it with Tommy and it really upset me, it’s not something I can speak loosely about.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Mahershala Ali’s grandmother is his “guru and greatest role model”.
The ‘Green Book’ actor – who has two-year-old daughter Bari with wife Amatus Sami-Karim – credits his grandma with instilling in him a strong sense of self-belief and a dedication to his work.
Speaking to the new issue of Heat magazine, he said: “My grandmother was really mu guru and my greatest role model to this day. From an early age, as a little kid sitting in the shopping cart, she kept telling me in very strong terms that I could do everything in life and achieve whatever I wanted, as long as I worked hard and dedicated myself. I quickly learned that realising your goals doesn’t happen overnight. But my grandmother taught me patience and perseverance and gave me the self-confidence that I never gave myself. And she was right!”
The 45-year-old star’s late father, Broadway actor Phillip Gilmore, was also a big influence on his chosen career path as he wanted to to be an even more successful actor than his dad.
Mahershala – who grew up in California – said: “One day I found an old postcard that my dad had sent to his mother, where he was photographed doing one of those muscular poses without a shirt. On the back he’d wrote, ‘Hey Mom, I’m still looking for a starring role.’ At that moment, I knew I could not give up – I owed it to him.
“He and my mother split up when I was three and then he passed away when I was 20. It’s sad when I think I only got to see him a few weeks each summer, when I would go to New York and spend time with him there. I still think of him as someone who had a big influence on my life, even in his absence. I really started to appreciate the artistry of movies and acting and creating characters when he would take me to the theatre and t see as many good films as possible.
“He served as my cultural window to a whole new world and those visits are really what gave me the inspiration and love of acting.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Charley Webb’s husband gifted her a necklace for their anniversary “with the wrong date on it”.
The ‘Emmerdale’ actress is expecting her third child her ITV soap co-star Matthew Wolfenden, and while he gave Charley a really “cute” piece of jewellery to celebrate their one-year wedding anniversary, the engraved date was missing a zero.
She said: “Matthew got me a necklace with the wrong date on it! I said to him, ‘This is really cute but it’s got the wrong date on it.”
Matthew added: “I had a gold necklace made that had a paper aeroplane pendant, as it was our paper anniversary. I’d asked for the date of our wedding – 10.02.18 – to be engraved on it and when it came they’d missed the first zero, which was annoying.”
Charley – who plays Debbie Dingle in the ITV soap – gifted her beau an engraved glass bottle to celebrate their nuptials one year on.
Speaking to OK! magazine, she added: “[I gifted Matthew] a glass bottle with a message in it, which said ‘1 year’ and was signed with kisses.”
Charley – who has kids Buster, eight, and Bowie, three, with Matthew – also admitted her pregnancy with her third baby feels very different than before because she is “more tired”.
She added: “I feel more tired than I did during my previous pregnancies. I just feel so sick and shattered all the time. This pregnancy does feel like my worst one, but I’m sure I think that every time!
“I have been quite quiet at work, which has been perfect timing. I started throwing up at week six and I only just stopped. I’ve just got used to the constant nausea and nothing really helps it.
“Everyone keeps telling me to eat ginger but I can’t stand the smell!”

OHMYGOSSIP — John Cleese has criticised Netflix after he claimed they never returned his calls after he pitched them an idea for a “special”.
The 79-year-old star took to Twitter to reveal that he previously visited the television streaming giant to pitch them an idea for a comedy special, however, Netflix never “returned” his “phone calls or emails”.
He tweeted: “In December I visited Netflix to pitch the idea of a ‘Special’. They must have hated the idea because they never got back to me, or returned any of my agent’s phone calls or emails!”
He then sarcastically added: “Recently someone showed me one of the ‘Specials’ they did commission. It was very original… (sic)”
The ‘Monty Python’ star pitched his idea to Netflix in December 2018, and went on to criticise them for commissioning a different stand-up special with an unnamed female comedian who made a series of gratuitous jokes about her vagina.
He added in other tweets: “A hugely likeable and jolly young woman did a highly original routine based on the fact that she was so ‘fat’ that she couldn’t find her own ‘pussy’. My only disappointment was that when I approached Netflix in December I had not known the sort of material they were looking for (sic)”
Cleese – who will head back out on the road on his ‘Last Time To See Me Before I Die’ international tour in May – explained that it wasn’t just Netflix who refused one of his ideas, as British broadcaster ITV also “turned down” his pitch for not being “tonally right”.
He continued: “Another idea was turned down by UK ITV as it wasn’t ‘tonally right’. Why didn’t they just say it was too intelligent… (sic)”
However, Cleese still has hope for his current ideas as many of his biggest ever comedy successes were originally “turned down” or “shunned”, including classic ‘Monty Python’ Christianity satire ‘Life of Brian’, acclaimed sitcom ‘Fawlty Towers’ and comedy movie ‘A Fish Called Wanda’.
He tweeted: “Still, I take heart from the fact that every UK and US studio passed on ‘Life of Brian’, 10 out of 11 Hollywood studios turned down ‘Fish Called Wanda’, and the man who commissioned ‘Fawlty Towers’ told me, after the first episode, that I had to ‘get it out of the hotel more’ (sic)”
Among the stand-up comedians that Netflix has chosen to commission specials for include Amy Schumer, Ray Romano, Russell Brand and Jimmy Carr.

OHMYGOSSIP — Sophie Turner found Bryan Singer “unpleasant” to work with.
The 23-year-old actress played Jean Gray for the first time in 2016’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ and she doesn’t have fond memories of being directed by the filmmaker – who has denied multiple accusations of sexual misconduct – on the superhero blockbuster.
Echoing ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ star Rami Malek’s recent comments about the director, she said of Singer: “Our time together was, like Rami said, unpleasant.”
Sophie has recently wrapped filming as Sansa Stark in ‘Game of Thrones’ and after eight seasons on the fantasy drama, she can see parallels with life in Westeros to the realities of Hollywood.
She told Rolling Stone magazine: “There’s a lot of Sansa in me. You go into something and you think it’s going to be a huge dream, and then you figure out, ‘Oh, wait. I have to be very strategic about everything. And Harvey Weinstein is Joffrey or Ramsay. Probably worse than that. A White Walker.’ ”
Rami previously admitted he didn’t expect Singer to be fired from ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ in the middle of production but he felt it “had” to happen.
Asked about his experiences working with the director on the movie, he said: “I’ve sat here and talked about how everyone deserves a voice and anyone who wants to talk about what happened with Bryan deserves to have their voice heard.
“In my situation with Bryan, it was not pleasant, not at all. And that’s about what I can say about it at this point.
“For anyone who is seeking any solace in all of this, Bryan Singer was fired. Bryan Singer was fired, I don’t think that was something anyone saw coming but I think that had to happen and it did.”
Bryan – who still has the directing credit on the film – was replaced by Dexter Fletcher when he was sacked in December 2017 amid reports of conflict between himself and his lead actor, as well as accusations of sexual misconduct.

OHMYGOSSIP — A school book belonging to Sir Paul McCartney has sold at auction for £46,800 after two fans became embroiled in a bidding war.
The item was among a number of items previously belonging to Paul and his Beatles bandmates that were up for sale at the Omega Auctions sale in Newton-Le-Willows, St Helens, Merseyside, England, on Tuesday (26.03.19).
The book – which was used by 76-year-old McCartney during his English Literature lessons at Liverpool Institute High School for Boys and was owned by a family in Liverpool who’d had it “for as long as they can remember” – sold for nearly 10 times the estimated price by a telephone bidder in the UK.
The tome contained 22 pages of essays by the ‘Hey Jude’ songwriter when he was a teenager, including pieces about Thomas Hardy’s novel ‘The Return of the Native’ and John Milton’s acclaimed poem ‘Paradise Lost’.
Also contained within the pages of the book was a doodle of a man smoking, and some critical comments made by Macca’s teacher Alan ‘Dusty’ Durband, even though the musician’s grades were high, ranging from B- to B++.
Speaking about the unexpectedly high price the historic piece sold for, Karen Fairweather – Director of Omega Auctions – said: “The bidding went on for 15 minutes, the longest we’ve ever had. They were two people who really wanted it so drove up the price in £200 bids. There was a round of applause at the end.”
Elsewhere in the auction, a pair of John Lennon’s 12-karat gold Hibo wrap-around frames glasses fetched £9,600, but a cassette belonging to the late George Harrison known as the “Hitler tapes”, which contained unheard tracks recorded in 1978 by the guitarist, did not sell.
John – who was assassinated in New York City in 1980 at the age of 40 – started a trend for oval-shaped glassless lenses in the 60s, and they remain fashionable to this day.
The cassette included tracks by George – who died from lung cancer in 2001 at the age of 58 – titled ‘Spoken Intro George Legs Harry’ and ‘Brazil 1,2 & 3’.
The auction also saw a Cavern Club brick sell for £420 and an Abbey Road sign being snapped out for £4,000.
