Lily James needs to have breaks

OHMYGOSSIP — Lily James has learned when to take breaks to “let go” of her characters.
The ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’ actress likes to fully immerse herself in her work but she’s understood the dangers of “holding and never really shedding”.
She said: “My problem is that I want to make the most of this moment, I want to be in the now, I want to enjoy it to the full.
“You need a moment to let go of characters and people that you work with and different places you’ve lived. [It’s a lot to] be always holding and never really shedding.”
The 29-year-old actress believes there’s been a big shift in Hollywood since the rise of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements and she is keen to work more with women in positions of power.
She said: “Something has shifted. Now I feel like a natural step on from this is making sure that there are more women in power.
“I want to work with more women, female directors and directors of photography, to be surrounded more equally by women and men.”
The ‘Darkest Hour’ actress loves the “extremes” that come with her career.
Explaining what draws her to acting, she said: “I think that’s why I like it, I like that emotional journey. The ability to fall into something and go to the extremes.”

Timothee Chalamet’s weight was watched

OHMYGOSSIP — Timothee Chalamet had to be told to stop losing weight for his role in ‘Beautiful Boy’.
The 22-year-old actor plays drug addict Nic Sheff in the biopic and shed 20lbs for scenes when his alter ego hit his lowest point but movie bosses were worried he was “pushing” himself further than he needed to.
Explaining the weight loss scenes were shot first to allow the actor to return to his regular size for the happier moments, director Felix Van Groenigen said: “It helped him physically feel it and hit some sort of rock bottom.
“I mean, he was very closely followed but at some point, we had a feeling he was pushing it further than we wanted, because he was so committed to it.
“We did have to say at some point, ‘Timmy, stop. It’s great. We don’t want you to go into a dangerous place.’ ”
Timothee stars opposite Steve Carrell as his on-screen father in the movie and they struck up a bond instantly.
Steve said: “We just naturally became friends. There weren’t any exercises that we needed to go through in order to generate that affection. I think we had it almost instantly.”
Timothee agreed: “Yeah, I feel the same way. I felt very… just taken in.
“I felt a strong warmth from Steve and from Felix, our director, and then the scenes with Amy Ryan and Maura Tierney as well.
“I felt a very paternal quality coming from them.”
While Steve had already been cast before his screen son, the ‘Call Me By Your Name’ actor wowed the director with his audition tape.
Felix told Total Film magazine: “We did auditions and saw a lot of tapes coming in. And at some point we saw an audition of a young actor, not very well-known – Timothee Chalamet.
“You know, he blew us away with his bold and fearless energy and how he could switch between a person completely strung out on drugs and also be this very intriguing teenager trying to find a bond with his dad.
“So at some point, we put them in the room together to do a chemistry read and I just felt it – they connected.”

Emma Willis admits ‘reality is kicking in’ after Big Brother was axed

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Willis admits “reality is kicking in” after ‘Big Brother’ was cancelled earlier this year.
The 42-year-old TV presenter has confessed that she doesn’t have any projects in the works after Channel 5 axed the reality show and its spin-off show ‘Bit on the Side’, which was hosted by Rylan Clark-Neal.
Emma told The Sun newspaper: “Reality is kind of kicking in now. I read interviews with some people who say, ‘Oh, I’m in talks for something, but I can’t say anything,’ and I think, ‘Why don’t you just say no?!’
“So no, there’s nothing. I like to be busy, and it’s a long period of time that I don’t have anything booked in for right now – three months over the summer.”
Emma subsequently explained that she was informed of the show being dropped just hours before the new series began and insisted it was impossible to “not feel sad”.
She said: “How am I meant not to feel sad, walking out and trying to host a show I love, knowing that it’s done?
“They could’ve done it a week before so that we all had time to take it in, or a week after so it could bed in.”
Emma added that she and fellow host Rylan experienced mixed emotions throughout the process, adding that the programme’s celebrity version “had more life in it”.
She shared: “Through the series I went from being really angry to really sad, and Rylan went from sad to really angry, so we swapped emotions.
“I just thought there was more life in it, especially the celeb one, which was appointment to view.”

The Queen’s Christmas broadcast will encourage ‘respect’

OHMYGOSSIP — The Queen’s Christmas broadcast will encourage “respect” amid “deeply-held differences”.
The 92-year-old Monarch recorded her annual speech in Buckingham Palace’s white drawing room earlier this month, saying that goodwill is “needed as much as ever”.
The Queen will say: “I believe his message of peace on earth and goodwill to all is never out of date. It can be heeded by everyone; it’s needed as much as ever.”
The royal will also highlight the importance of people uniting – even if they have dramatically different opinions and beliefs.
She will say: “Even with the most deeply held differences, treating the other person with respect and as a fellow human being is always a good first step towards greater understanding.”
What’s more, in the address, the Queen will highlight the importance of her loved ones around her and emphasise her strong Christian beliefs.
She will say: “Through the many changes I have seen over the years, faith, family and friendship have been not only a constant for me but a source of personal comfort and reassurance.”
The message – which is written by the Queen – will reflect on current issues and draws on her own experiences over the past year, such as England reaching the soccer World Cup semi-finals, as well as the royal weddings of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank.

Alongside a photograph of her kissing her husband’s cheek, the actress wrote: “Honoured to be kissing the most stylish man on the planet.. may the style Gods always shine down upon u my love [laughing empjis] #gqmoststylishman @nickjonas (sic)”
By contrast, Nick previously revealed she is still annoyed he didn’t try to kiss her on their first date.
Speaking ahead of their wedding day, Nick admitted the star remains upset that he didn’t try to smooch her during their first date at Priyanka’s home.
She recalled: “We hung out for a couple of hours … he patted my back before he left.”
Nick admitted: “There was no kiss. There was nothing.”
But Nick revealed he didn’t think a kiss was appropriate because Priyanka’s mother was in the house watching TV during their date.
He shared: “She’s still upset about that. Your mom was in the house! I thought it was a respectful first night.”
But Priyanka – who starred in the ‘Baywatch’ movie in 2017 – quipped: “It was too respectful if you ask me.”
Despite this, Priyanka confessed to being charmed by Nick’s outlook on life.
During one of their dates, he told her: “I love the way you look at the world. I love the drive you have.”
Reflecting on that moment, Priyanka added: “As a girl, I’ve never had a guy tell me, ‘I like your ambition.’ It’s always been the opposite.”

Courtney Act says it was ‘poetic’ her skirt fell off in front of Anne Widdecombe

OHMYGOSSIP — Courtney Act thought it was “poetic” when her skirt fell off in front of Anne Widdecombe.
The 36-year-old drag star has recalled the moment she entered the ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ house and her skirt was completely ripped off, saying it was somehow appropriate that the incident happened in front of the former politician.
Courtney – who has previously accused Anne of “bigotry” – told BuzzFeed: “I was otherwise distracted because my skirt had fallen off and I was trying to compose myself.
“It was kind of all puffed and rushy and then I was telling them, ‘Oh my god, my skirt had just fallen off.’
“And they were like ,’Oh I’m sure that nobody noticed, it’s fine,’ and I was like ‘No no no, my skirt had literally [Courtney imitates her skirt coming off].’
“And it fell off again in front of Ann Widdecombe, which is sort of poetic I think.”
Courtney also went on to explain how she was “taken aback” on her first day on the reality TV show ‘Ru Paul’s Drag Race’.
She said: “I think the thing that you are really taken by is that you realise it is actually a set.
“I genuinely had always thought, this sounds dumb, I always thought that ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ was shot in the basement of RuPaul’s house.
“I always pictured him up upstairs in his sunken living room and he’s like, ‘Alright, time to go down and see the girls,’ and he trapes down the steps into the basement (a well-lit basement, but a basement nonetheless).
“And then I was like, ‘Wait a minute, these aren’t real bricks! These are just photographs of bricks printed on to fabric It’s all an illusion!'”

Spike Lee reveals how he gauged the public’s reaction to BlacKkKlansman

OHMYGOSSIP — Spike Lee secretly attended cinemas to see how crowds reacted to his movie ‘BlacKkKlansman’.
The acclaimed filmmaker has revealed he went under cover to gauge the reaction to his drama movie, which tells the story of a policeman who sets out to expose the local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan.
Spike confessed: “Even last night I was here for a screening and what I tried to do was sneak into the theatre at the end, so I could see…”
Although the movie is set in the 1970s, Spike explained that it still has a strong relevance to modern-day America.
The 61-year-old director – whose previous credits include ‘She’s Gotta Have It’ and ‘Do the Right Thing’ – said the themes of his film are particularly pertinent in light of incidents such as the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville in 2017.
He told Metro.co.uk: “What it does, it reiterates to the audience that what you’ve just seen is not a thing of the past, when you leave the theatre you walk out into the world we live in; what you saw in Charlottesville.”
‘BlacKkKlansman’ is already being tipped to win various awards.
But the world-famous filmmaker has insisted his work isn’t motivated by accolades.
He said: “It’s nice to be thought that way but that don’t make it happen.
“We’ll see. Honestly, though, whatever awards we get or don’t get, does not have an impact on what this film is.”

Howard Donald loves chocolate

OHMYGOSSIP — Howard Donald likes chocolate too much to have a six-pack.
The 50-year-old singer wishes he still had the physique he did 20 years ago but enjoys indulging in his favourite foods too much to maintain a toned torso.
The Take That star said: “I actually don’t think I’ll ever have [a six-pack] again. When I look at those pictures of the 1995 tour, we all had one
“But I will never have that body again, because I like my chocolate. I can’t be like Gary – he’s amazing with his food, really balanced.
“I like my Wagamamas, my Byrons, Cadbury – that’s why I’ll never have a six-pack.”
While Howard may not be in the physical shape he’d like to be, he’s still very fit and able to push himself hard.
Asked if he can still backflip, he said: “Yeah.”
His disbelieving bandmate Gary Barlow said: “Can you? No way? When was the last back flip you did?”
Howard replied: “I’m always on the trampoline with my daughter, so I do back and front somersaults.”
But his other bandmate, Mark Owen, was concerned his friend could be left injured by the feat.
He said in a recent joint interview: “Are you not worried about knocking your teeth out? I bounce on the trampoline and think ‘Oh I could so feel like doing a front somersault’ but I’m worried about landing and smashing my teeth with my knees.”
Howard replied: “I’m not worried about that – I’m more worried about landing on my neck.”
And the ‘Never Forget’ hitmaker admitted his days in Take That will come to an end once he’s unable to dance any more.
He said: “I want to dance – coming off tour you feel so fit and amazing.
“I just think it would be so substandard if we got onstage and were just behind mic stands. That’s not us
“It would be time to call it a day for me once that started happening.”

Jarvis Cocker wants Christmas hit

OHMYGOSSIP — Jarvis Cocker wants to write a Christmas hit.
The Pulp frontman is a huge fan of festive music and admitted he has spent years trying to craft his own Christmas classic but it has eluded him so far.
He told The Observer: “I’ve always wanted to write a Christmas song but never managed it. I loved singing carols at school and always wanted to capture that sort of magic in a song. The closest I got was with Pulp doing a song called ‘Snow’ in the early 80s, but it was pretty depressing and we never recorded it.”
Before they found success with Pulp, Jarvis and his bandmates used to earn extra money at Christmas by busking in Sheffield on Christmas Eve and although they did not know all of the words they “raked in” the cash from busy shoppers.
He recalled: “In the early days of Pulp, when we were 15, 16, we’d go into Sheffield on Christmas Eve and busk. The buses would stop at four, so everybody would be rushing around doing last-minute shopping or getting drunk. We’d do all the old classics – ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’, ‘Silent Night’ – although we’d only know the first verses. The second verses would be all’la-la-la-laaa’. The third verse would be the first one again. Not that it mattered. We raked it in.”
And for Jarvis, 55, music will always be the best part of Christmas.
He said: “Music is the best part of Christmas to me, that and twinkling lights. I enjoy finding new Christmas songs.”

Mollie King’s sparkly Christmas clothes

OHMYGOSSIP — Mollie King wears as many sequins and sparkles “as possible” over the festive season.
The former Saturdays singer loves getting dressed up for Christmas parties and likes to mix glamour with feeling comfortable.
She said: “For this time of year, I love to wear sequins and sparkles, it’s the only time you can get away with wearing as much of it as possible…
“I have a few parties to look forward to this year and I’ll always go with what I feel most comfortable in, either a beautiful statement piece or a matching set.”
This Christmas, the 31-year-old beauty – who is currently single – will be spending December 25 with her family and is looking forward to a fun-packed day.
She said: “The festive season is the perfect time to treat yourself.
“This year, all the family are spending Christmas at my mum’s. My four nephews will be there, running riot. So there will be lots going on.”
In 2017, Mollie took part in ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and she embraced the sparkly costumes on the show.
She said: “I absolutely loved doing ‘Strictly’ and wearing the costumes was a dream.
“It gave you the opportunity to wear sequins and outfits that you’d never wear in day-to-day life.”
These days, the ‘Issues’ hitmaker is co-hosting the BBC Radio 1 weekend breakfast show three days a week with Matt Edmondson and still hasn’t got used to the early starts.
She admitted: “I set about three alarms – with one of them outside my bedroom, so I have to get out of bed to turn it off.”

Misty Copeland didn’t prepare for the 2019 Pirelli Calendar shoot

OHMYGOSSIP — Misty Copeland didn’t prepare for her 2019 Pirelli Calendar Shoot.
The 36-year-old ballet dancer played an exotic dancer in this year’s re-imagined calendar by Albert Watson, and admitted she was able to easily channel her character by “using her body” to tell a story – although she refused to “practice stripping”.
When asked by People magazine whether she’d done anything specific to prepare for the job, she said: “No, I feel like I adjust well when I’m in a certain environment.
“I feel like I can take on the character that I’m supposed to be because of the surroundings that I’m in. I definitely wasn’t practicing stripping.
“I think it’s about, again, me using my body and telling a story and, a very human story, and getting to see all these different sides of the character I was playing.”
Albert confessed that this year he wanted to create something “more interesting” than models “taking their tops off” for the iconic calendar – and he decided to take a cinematic approach to the images.
The photographer said he hoped to explore femininity in the post-MeToo era and Misty insisted that as a classical dancer, working with a storyline made it easier to “relate” to than an ordinary photoshoot.
She said: “It was insanely exciting and to hear Albert’s vision, I definitely connect and relate more to having a storyline.
“That’s what we do as classical dancers, we tell stories through our movement, so I just loved that concept that I wasn’t just standing in front of the camera posing to make shots for a calendar.
“I could really use my strength, which I think is expression through movement. My character is in a relationship with a dancer, and he actually is a co-worker of mine, Calvin Royal, who plays my boyfriend within this story that Albert created.
“I just think it was captured so beautifully, and just to see all of the struggles, and things that dancers face.”

Danny Dyer claims Nigel Farage ‘still has the hump’ with him

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘EastEnders’s actor Danny Dyer claims Nigel Farage “still has the hump” with him.
The 41-year-old soap star thinks the former UKIP leader is upset with him after he called him a “p***k in a suit” in a blistering political rant during an interview with The Big Issue in November.
Appearing on ‘Alan Carr’s Christmas Cracker’, Danny said: “He’s got the hump with me because I called him another p***k in a suit.”
The ‘Football Factory’ actor is well-known for voicing his opinions on a wide range of issues.
And the London-born star is set to continue that trend when he hosts Channel 4’s ‘Alternative Christmas Message’ this year.
The show, which will be broadcast on Christmas Day (25.12.18) at 3pm, is going up against Queen Elizabeth’s annual message and is set to compare the “backstabbing” in the government to the goings-on in Danny’s BBC One soap.
In a teaser clip posted on Channel 4’s YouTube channel, Danny says: “This year has been pretty full-on, to be honest. Like that shambles down in Westminster, what a palaver that is.
“I mean, where are our leaders? Where are they? There’s been more backstabbing than we have in Albert Square.”
He will also take aim at US President Donald Trump, describing him as an “absolute melt” after the politician cancelled a visit to a cemetery in France in November “due to the weather”.
Danny says: “It ain’t any better for the Yanks though, is it? What an absolute melt they’ve got there.
“He don’t want to turn up to memorials because it’s raining. He don’t fancy a little trip to Britain because there’s people here that just don’t like him. Leave off.”

Chris Evans tells listeners not to cry during BBC Radio 2 farewell

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Evans urged his listeners not to cry as he said goodbye to BBC Radio 2 on Christmas Eve (24.12.18).
The 52-year-old presenter kicked off the week with an emotional farewell to his ‘Breakfast Show’ after eight years, and while he struggled to fight back his own tears he told his fans not to be too sad over his departure.
Speaking on air, he said: “It is sad. It’s a sad day today. But it is also an exciting day for everyone. You’ve got to turn the pages sometimes.
“If you wait for other people to turn them it might never happen, you know what I am saying? Please don’t shed too many tears during our final morning.”
Later in his final broadcast, Chris sounded choked up as he thanked both the BBC and his own “superb agent Michael”, along with the crew who worked on the show.
He added: “Thank you for everything. Thank you the BBC for supporting me and trusting me with the microphones. All that amazing music right here in Sir Terry’s studio.
“Thank you to everyone who has ever produced the show or had anything to do with the stellar content I have been gifted.
“Thanks you for my superb agent Michael – we’ve been together longer than any of our marriages. There have been five. Without his love and loyalty I wouldn’t actually be here now. I love you all.”
Back in September, Chris confirmed his plans to step down from his role and confirmed plans for a “brand new adventure”.
He said at the time: “Some of us are mountain climbers and if you get to the top of your favourite mountain and you stay there, you’re just an observer.
“And I’ve got to keep climbing so I’m going to go and go again and start up on a brand new adventure. And I’ve loved it here, every second and I don’t want this to be it. I’m 52, it’s brilliant, it’s never been more current.”
Chris has been at the station for 13 years and took over the morning segment – which regularly attracts nine million listeners – from Sir Terry Wogan in 2010, and he will be replaced in the new year by Zoe Ball.

Barbara Hall reveals how Madam Secretary explores complex issues

OHMYGOSSIP — Barbara Hall says there’s a formula to how ‘Madam Secretary’ manages to tell detailed stories with strict time constraints.
The creator and executive producer of the political drama series – which stars Tea Leoni – has admitted that when covering complex issues, she tries to focus more on the storyline of the individuals involved.
Speaking to Variety, she said: “You sort of get into a rhythm of how much story you can tell. The A-story usually being some big international crisis or problem, and we want to devote an equal amount of time to their personal lives, particularly the family.
“Really by the first season you get an idea of what the division of story is going to look like. Sometimes we do pare down the big, crisis story so that we can tell a more personal story.”
Barbara went on to explain that although they try their best to be accurate when delving into political issues, she occasionally has to rely on “wonky policy” stories.
She said: “Sometimes we also do these really highly, heavily plotted process stories, what we call the ‘wonky policy’ stories. And we’ll put those in there every now and then because people have the appetite for it.
“But then we give everybody room to breathe and go back to telling more personal stories. So we just do it by feel … and try to get it all done in less than an hour.”

Debbie McGee says Darcey Bussell ‘looks hotter than ever’

OHMYGOSSIP — Debbie McGee thinks ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge Darcey Bussell is looking “hotter than ever”.
The 60-year-old star – who appeared on the BBC programme in 2017 – has gushed about the acclaimed dancer on the Telegraph’s ‘Talking Strictly’ podcast.
Debbie said: “Is it just me or … Darcey always looks beautiful but this year she is looking sensational.
“Hotter than ever and I think with her hair straight and shorter … when it’s straight she just looks incredible.”
Debbie also revealed that in spite of her refined appearance, Darcey has a “cheeky” side to her personality.
She shared: “I mean she’s lovely, she’s got a really cheeky personality.”
Earlier this month, meanwhile, Debbie revealed she is still sometimes so grief-stricken, she can’t mention her late husband’s name.
The stage performer admitted that although there are some days she struggles to think about magician Paul Daniels – who passed away aged 77 in 2016 – she is “grateful” to have had him in her life for so long.
She said: “When I’m having my really bad moments I just keep saying to myself, ‘You can’t bring them back.’
“You have to just feel lucky that you had that wonderful person in your life for that length of time.
“The one thing I’ll say to you now is that the good days outweigh the bad days. There are days where I can’t mention Paul’s name and there are other days I can, I sometimes have to tell myself off.
“That’s our survival mechanism. Your life is going to go on and you will be happy.”

Kimberley Walsh’s magical Christmases

OHMYGOSSIP — Kimberley Walsh thinks being a mother has made Christmas more magical.
The former Girls Aloud singer – who has sons Bobby, four, and Cole, two, with husband Justin Scott – is ready for her kids to go “wild” on December 25, but she wouldn’t have it any other way.
She said: “I’m hosting Christmas at home with the family, so I’ll be cooking and trying to look after the kids, who will be going wild – they’re very excitable.
“It’s amazing being a mum at Christmas.
“Watching their little faces react to the magic of it all is the best thing ever.”
The 37-year-old star has no plans to make any specific New Year’s resolutions but she’s hoping 2019 will be another “really good” year.
She added to OK! magazine: “I won’t be making any New Year’s resolutions – I just want to have another really good year.
“In 2018, I went back to my acting roots, which was fun.”
Meanwhile, Kimberley recently admitted she’d love to have a third child and expects it would be another boy if she did.
She said: “I’d love to have another regardless of whether it’s a boy or girl. My sister had three boys so I presume I’ll have another boy too. It would be nice to see them react to a sister, but you can’t choose.”
However, she doesn’t mind if she has three boys because she loves the way her sons are so “protective” and how they share similar interests.
She explained: “They are so cute together. Bobby is very protective of his little brother. He sticks up for him at soft play. They do fight too but I step back and let them sort it as they have to learn. They both love the park and soft play so we’re safe in those areas … I’m a very relaxed person, but I’m not at all a relaxed mum! I’m a real worrier when it comes to my kids and I also smother them with love, I’m very tactile – sometimes Bobby will even tell me to stop kissing him so much. They’ll hopefully make amazing boyfriends because they’re so used to affection.”
