Edie Campbell thinks social media gave models a voice

OHMYGOSSIP — Edie Campbell thinks social media has “cracked open” the negative side of the fashion industry.
The 28-year-old beauty – who has been a vocal campaigner for private changing spaces backstage at runway shows – praised the efforts of Cameron Russell’s #MyJobShouldNotIncludeAbuse campaign, which encouraged models to speak out about the sexual abuse they had experienced, and thinks people are becoming “very nervous” about a power shift in the business.
She said: “The advent of social media has really changed things and it meant that people now have a platform to say what is wonderful and what is not about the industry.
“I think its cracking it open, in a way that makes people very nervous.
“It forces people to listen because the power is now distributed in a more even manner throughout the industry because people have a voice. That is quite an extraordinary thing.”
But Edie knows it can be hard for people to sympathise with models.
She said in a recent interview: “It’s difficult to feel sorry for models because it’s perceived to be this extremely glamorous, gilded profession – that it’s a privilege and an honour, something that is bestowed upon you that you should be endlessly grateful for.”
And the British beauty thinks there are more regulations needed to protect the younger, unknown models in the industry.
She said: “I think the stories you hear about models are the ones who’ve made it.
“For every Karlie Kloss, there are a hundred non-Karlie Klosses who ended up in debt in foreign countries having this dream that was never going to happen for them.”
Edie admitted she’s been driven to speak out because it was frustrating to sit back and watch nothing change.
She said: “I was getting really frustrated with the silence and the kind of like, ‘Oh, nothing to do with me’ that was fashion’s response to what was going on.
“Honesty and truth is something I really value, so I just thought, ‘Someone’s got to say it.’ ”

Chris Pratt hitting the gym after festive break

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Pratt is “determined” to hit the gym, after neglecting his fitness regime over the festive period.
The 39-year-old actor has said he’s “not been motivated to work out” over the past few months as the holiday season has encouraged him to keep “eating” rather than hitting the gym, but he’s now on a mission to get back to his usual work out routine, and wants his social media followers to join him.
In a video posted to his Instagram story, Chris – who has son Jack, six, with ex-wife Anna Faris – said: “This is a message to somebody out there. I don’t know who it is. One of my followers. At least one of ya. Maybe more than one of you.
“These last couple of months, I have just not been that motivated to work out. And I’ve been eating. And I know it’s winter and it’s holiday season. But this morning I woke up and I’ve determined that I’m going to get on it. And I don’t want to, but I’m going to do it, I’m going to start it today.”
The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ actor admitted it “sucks to work out”, but knows he’ll feel “great” afterwards.
He added: “I’m asking you to do it with me and check in. Let’s go. Because if I’ve learned anything it’s this – and normally I’m joking around on these things but I’m being kind of serious – it sucks to work out. But. After you do it you feel great. So let’s get through it. Let’s do it and get through it, and we’ll feel good.”
A few hours later, the ‘Jurassic World’ star took to his story again, this time sweaty and exhausted after having completed his work out.
He said: “Alright we did it. We did it! I’m going to feel better eventually, I think. This is good, let’s keep it going.
“Let’s motivate each other. Social media stuff can be so ugly and so nasty and it can make us hurt one another but I’m trying to motivate you.”

Lisa Riley turned down ‘longer’ Emmerdale return

OHMYGOSSIP — Lisa Riley had to turn down a lengthier ‘Emmerdale’ return offer due to other commitments.
The 42-year-old actress will reprise her role as Mandy Dingle in the new year and the star has admitted she was asked to put pen to paper on a longer deal but she wasn’t able to, meaning her return storyline had to be changed.
She said: “The first initial offer was for a long period, but because of work and my commitments, there was an original storyline which has been flipped.
“It won’t be what people expect, which is even better. It leaves things very much open for the new year, shall we say.
“I had a secret meeting with the show and I had time to have a think about whether it was the right thing, but it didn’t take me a long time once they told me the story.”
However, Lisa has hinted Mandy may be back in the Dales for good at some point.
When asked if her departure will leave the door open for a return, she replied: “Yes! I’m not dead. I’m very much alive.”
Mandy will make a dramatic return to the village alongside her 16-year-old son Vinnie, who will be played by ‘The Syndicate’ star Brad Johnson.
Speaking about her co-star, Lisa told Digital Spy: “He was in Kay Mellor’s ‘The Syndicate’ and he’s brilliant.
“Vinnie comes to the village with Mandy and the avenues of where the stories can be taken are huge. I’m so excited.”

Mark Charnock leads tributes to late Emmerdale director

OHMYGOSSIP — Mark Charnock has led tributes to late ‘Emmerdale’ director Haldane Duncan.
The 50-year-old actor took to Twitter to reveal Hal, who was 73, passed away on Boxing Day (26.12.18), and praised him as one of the “kindest” and “funniest” people he had the pleasure of working with.
He wrote on Twitter: “Hearing the very sad news that one of our great directors from a few years ago passed away yesterday. Haldane Duncan was one of the kindest, funniest and best. A lovely man with time for everyone. X (sic)”
Upon seeing Mark’s tweet, Hal’s son Mike thanked the star – who has played Marlon Dingle on the soap for 22 years – for his kind words.
He wrote: “Thanks Mark. Hal was my dad and he would have loved all the kind messages from everyone. He not only worked on Emmerdale but also on all of the soaps, including Take the High Road, Hollyoaks, Eastenders and Crossroads. In Scotland he is best known for Taggart and the Steamie. (sic)”
Mark admitted Hal would always make him laugh and was an “utter gent” and “total professional”.
He tweeted: “Hi Mike. I’m so very sorry for your loss. I really adored your dad. He was so good at his job and had the cheekiest twinkle in his eye. Always made me laugh. You felt like you were in the hands of a total professional and an utter gent. Please accept my sincerest sympathies. Mark (sic)”
Hal helmed the first ‘Emmerdale’ episode on Yorkshire Television on November 8th 1999, and he also made 14 episodes of ‘EastEnders’ between 1997 and 1998, as well as six episodes of ‘Hollyoaks’ from 1996 to 1997.

BBC axes Film review show

OHMYGOSSIP — The BBC has axed its ‘Film…’ review show after 47 years.
The programme began in 1971 when it was hosted by various presenters, including Joan Bakewell, until Barry Norman took over from 1972 until 1998, but the show – which has also been fronted by Jonathan Ross and Claudia Winkleman – will not air in 2019.
A spokesperson for the corporation said in a statement: “We are constantly looking at how we present the arts to ensure we are serving all audiences in the best way possible.
“In 2019 we will be creating an enhanced offer for lovers of film both on television and online which will be a more consistent approach across the year and will replace the ‘Film’ show.
“We’re still working through the details and will have more news about what this will look like soon.
“Those interested in film can also watch and listen to other film-programming across the BBC; from BBC News’s weekly The Film Review and Radio 4’s The Film Programme and film features on Front Row.”
Jonathan took over hosting duties from Barry – who died in 2017 aged 83 – in 1999 and fronted the programme until 2010 when Claudia took up the reins until 2016.
Following her departure, the show was hosted on rotation by several presenters, including Zoë Ball, Clara Amfo, Edith Bowman and Charlie Brooker.
The programme’s title was changed annually to reflect the year of broadcast, but there will be no ‘Film 2019’.
The ‘Film…’ show initially aired only in the south east of England in 1971, but was made available in all areas of the UK in 1972.

Jennifer Aniston gives godchildren candy and love

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Aniston spoils her godchildren with candy and “a lot of love”.
The 49-year-old actress is proud to have been chosen to offer spiritual guidance to many of her friends’ kids, but she doesn’t think they need her to give them any advice as they’ve been raised “the right way”.
She said: “They’re really extraordinary kids – they’re all products of my girlfriends, who are women whom I’ve been in love with for 25, sometimes 30 years, who have brought them up the right way.
“I don’t give them advice because I don’t need to. I don’t really give them anything except candy and a lot, a lot of love.”
And the former ‘Friends’ star insisted none of her godchildren view her as a glamorous figure in her life.
She laughed: “Me – glamorous? This takes a couple of hours to do.
“They don’t know me as a glamorous person at all. They come over on the weekend – we call it Sunday Fun Day and it’s sort of a fun, magical place for them to visit. It’s all sweatpants, jeans and flip-flops.”
The ‘Dumplin’ actress thinks its funny when she’s praised as a beauty icon because she feels insecure and still has moments of feeling low about herself.
She said in a recent interview: “I always chuckle inside when someone says something like that because I’ve never thought of myself that way.
“I didn’t grow up being perceived that way and I’ve certainly had many moments in my life where I didn’t feel good enough or pretty enough or anything enough, where I felt horrible about myself.
“But you just have to go through those periods and get stronger and realise how you are perceived really has to do with how you feel about yourself more than anything else.”

Aretha Franklin’s estate pays 3m in back taxes

OHMYGOSSIP — Aretha Franklin’s estate has paid $3 million in back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) since her death.
TMZ has obtained documents filed by the IRS, claiming that the late Queen of Soul – who died in August at the age of 76 – owes more than $6.3 million in back taxes from 2012 to 2018 and $1.5 million in penalties.
However, attorney David Bennett, who represents Aretha’s estate, has insisted that $3 million has been paid since her death and all of her tax returns have been filed.
He added that the IRS is auditing the estate and they are disputing some of the filings but that the estate in turn is questioning what the IRS refers to as “income”.
Back in November, Aretha’s Detroit mansion – which she bought in 1993 but almost lost it in 2008 due to unpaid property taxes totalling almost $20,000 – was sold for $300,000.
Meanwhile, it was revealed after her death that the ‘I Say a Little Prayer’ hitmaker hadn’t left a will, meaning her four sons, Clarence, 63, Edward, 61, Ted, 54, and Kecalf, 48, may have to wait years to find out how much of their mother’s estate they’re entitled to.
Don Wilson – a lawyer based in Los Angeles who worked for Aretha for 30 years – was previously quoted as saying: “I tried to convince her that she should do not just a will but a trust while she was still alive.
“She never told me, ‘No, I don’t want to do one.’ She understood the need. It just didn’t seem to be something she got around to.”
Mr. Wilson added: “She was a private person.”
Aretha owned her estate and maintained ownership of the songs she wrote – except her most popular singles like ‘Respect’.

Debbie Reynolds had ‘a vision’ of Carrie Fisher’s death

OHMYGOSSIP — Debbie Reynolds had a premonition that her daughter Carrie Fisher was going to die.
The mother and daughter actresses died two years ago, just a day apart, with ‘Star Wars’ legend Carrie tragically suffering a cardiac arrest on a plane four days before she died on December 27, whilst her parent passed away the following day, aged 84.
According to Debbie’s close friend, Sue Cameron, the ‘Singin’ In The Rain’ star had a vision that something was going to happen to her daughter, who was 60 when she died, after an “experience with death”.
Sue told People.com: “I made it a point to go over every three weeks to see Debbie, and on that last day that I saw her, on 21 December, she told me she had had a vision the night before. She called it an ‘experience with death.'”
Sue remembered Debbie saying: ‘Oh all right, I guess this is it … I guess it wasn’t for me.’
She added: “But in hindsight, I realised the cloud settled over the exact spot where Carrie always sat on Debbie’s bed.”
Meanwhile, Carrie’s daughter Billie Lourd marked the second anniversary of her mother’s death with an emotional song this week.
Taking to Instagram to post a touching video, in which she performs a ballad on piano, the ‘Scream Queens’ star captioned the clip: “It has been two years since my Momby’s death and I still don’t know what the “right” thing to do on a death anniversary is (I’m sure a lot of you feel the same way about your loved ones).
“So I decided to do something a little vulnerable for me, but something we both loved to do together – sing. This is the piano her father gave her and this was one of her favorite songs. (sic)”
Billie – who was left devastated after losing her grandmother the day after her mother’s passing – added that her career as an actress helps her stay “happy” in the wake of her mother’s passing, and hopes the song can “encourage” others who have lost someone to “keep on moving”.
She continued: “And as the song says, we must “keep on moving”. I’ve found that what keeps me moving is doing things that make me happy, working hard on the things that I’m passionate about and surrounding myself with people I love and making them smile.
“I hope this encourages anyone feeling a little low or lost to “keep on moving”. As my Momby once said, “take your broken heart and turn it into art” – whatever that art may be for you. (sic)”

Kylie Jenner’s endless Christmas

OHMYGOSSIP — Kylie Jenner was still unwrapping Christmas presents on December 27.
The ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ star revealed she was back home continuing the festivities by unboxing the remaining gifts under her tree at the home she shares with boyfriend Travis Scott and their 10-month old daughter Stormi.
Sharing a clip of the presents on her Instagram Story, she said: “Home, to finish unwrapping all these gifts … my Christmas is not over!”
2018 marked the first Christmas for Kylie as a mother, after welcoming her little girl into the world in February.
Kylie has had a hectic holiday so far after making an appearance with the tot at her mother Kris Jenner’s famous Christmas Eve party.
However, the 21-year-old beauty mogul didn’t stay too long, as she rushed home to continue mommy duties.
She told her 122 million followers in a previous clip with her little girl: “This is me leaving the party early to go give my baby a bath (while wearing this dress because I couldn’t get it off by myself) and put her to sleep and it was the best xmas eve yet.”
The lavish bash, staged at the Hidden Hills home of the matriarch’s daughter Kim Kardashian West and son-in-law Kanye West, reportedly cost $500,000.
The 63-year-old reality star spared no expense in making sure the family’s 200 guests had a great time – and insiders insisted the celebration, which will be seen on ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’, is worth every penny.
The source explained: “The party needs to be eye-popping because it sets the tone for their empire, it creates a fantasy world and makes people want to tune in so $500,000 is nothing for them.
“The grand spectacle of the party also helps sell Kylie’s makeup, Kim’s perfumes, and Khloe’s jeans. It’s all about image.”
The biggest expense was to create a snowy backyard so guests could go sledging, while a number of tents were erected, including one for performances by the likes of John Legend.

Jason Momoa was scared of Nicole Kidman

OHMYGOSSIP — Jason Momoa was “extremely scared” about meeting Nicole Kidman.
The 39-year-old actor had “one of the greatest acting experiences” he’s ever had shooting ‘Aquaman’ alongside the ‘Big Little Lies’ star and admitted he was in awe of the Australian actress because she’s been so successful.
He said: “I was extremely scared because I was like, ‘Oh my God, she’s so amazing.’
“I’ve never worked with anyone that came close to an Academy Award. She was just this amazing woman and one of the greatest acting experiences I’ve ever had.
“Just to see someone that could change it after doing something over 40 times and constantly reinventing and just having fun with it and just seeing how she handled James [Wan, director], it was just beautiful.
“She was so intelligent with her choices and it was cool.”
Nicole plays Queen Atlanna of Atlantic, the father of Jason’s character Arthur Curry/ Aquaman, and he was a lot less restrained when he met Temuera Morrison, who plays his father, for the first time.
Jason recalled to SciFiNow magazine: “I really looked up to him and I wanted him as my father. So that was one of my big requests, I wanted him to play my father.
“When I met him, I tackled him, he was kind of freaked out.
“I’m like a big dog that is like – I’m very happy, I’m easily excited. So I grabbed him and gave him lots of kisses.”
Jason shares a lot of scenes with Amber Heard, who plays Mera, and they had a great time working together.
He said: The film’s fun and you laugh and there’s unbelievable action. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done physically.
“This definitely has that in there, so I’m like, ‘That’s covered.’
“We had a great time together. I’m f***ing hilarious, Amber’s f***ing hilarious and we just had a great time.”

Emma Stone OK with not being liked

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Stone has learned to be OK with not everyone “liking her”.
The ‘La La Land’ star admits she used to “fall over herself” to impress people and get them to like her but she has now realised that some are just “unwinnable”.
She told the February 2019 issue of British Vogue magazine: “It’s OK if not everybody likes you. And that doesn’t make it more appealing to convince them of why you are likeable. It’s interesting, you saying about the public persona of my ‘charm’ or whatever. Part of that is my damage, you know. Part of that is my flaw … so that was a major lesson, not falling over myself to win over the unwinnable … nobody knows what they’re doing! We’re all just a bunch of people trying to figure out how to get through the day.”
Meanwhile, Emma previously revealed turning 30 has helped her look back on her life in a clearer way, as well as figuring out what she wants from the future.
She explained: “My twenties were a really interesting time, and there’s been a lot that has happened in these past 10 years, both positive and not as positive. It’s weird how much turning 30 crystallises your life. Instead of just living the dreams that I had in my youth and getting to do the job that I love to do and making friends and going through all of that, it’s like, now what do I actively want as an adult?”

Jennifer Hudson’s shoe-throwing The Voice compliment

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Hudson throws shoes at ‘The Voice’ contestants when she is impressed by them.
The 37-year-old singer uses the unusual technique to praise a wannabe when they have put in a strong performance, and she has hinted there is some tough competition on next year’s series, because she has launched plenty of her footwear while filming the programme.
She said: “I’ve thrown quite a few shoes! It’s just I really don’t know how to define it … it’s a compliment, though.
“It means you are singing so well I’m gonna throw my shoe at you.”
While Jennifer hasn’t divulged where she got the idea from, she insists throwing her shoe at a singer is the “highest compliment” she can give anyone.
She said: “It’s the highest compliment is all I can say.
“I kind of want to hit them but as they’re so far away the next best thing is I’m going to grab my shoe and let them know.”

Elle Macpherson reveals her New Year’s Eve ‘tradition’

OHMYGOSSIP — Elle Macpherson has a “tradition” of wearing white on New Year’s Eve.
The 54-year-old model has opened up on her preparations for her New Year’s Eve celebrations in a column for Get The Gloss, revealing she’s developed a routine over the years.
Elle – who has kids Arpad, 20, and Aurelius, 15 – shared: “I love spending New Year’s Eve and Day with people who I want in my life all of the following year, and years to come – my kids, friends, family and loves. I often wear white, its become a sort of tradition for me.
“Usually, we are in the Bahamas and go to the local Junkanoo, a Bahamian procession with drums and costumes. It’s musical, joyous, creative, earthy and authentic and one of my favourite ways to celebrate the new year. We don’t play games but we do dance, although my kids say I should probably just watch at this stage!”
Elle also revealed what she plans to eat and drink on the evening of December 31.
She said: “If I’m having friends over, I often prepare (vegan) cheese and nut plates, guacamole and fresh tuna tartar on gluten-free toast, alongside a great champagne or vodka-based cocktail.
“I don’t drink alcohol so I stick to my favourite virgin cocktails, a mock mojito made of fresh lime, slices of ginger, soda, lots of ice and a little mint on top. I intersperse this with chilled glasses of elderflower water or a simple ginger ale on ice.
“If there’s a meal, I aim to serve a vegan or vegetarian menu using fresh, local, organic seasonal produce, alongside beautifully prepared fish. Dessert is usually chocolate-based – preferably a dark chocolate mousse made with protein powder.”

Calvin Klein ‘underwhelmed by Raf Simons’ performance as chief creative officer’

OHMYGOSSIP — Calvin Klein was reportedly underwhelmed by Raf Simons’ performance as the company’s chief creative officer.
The 50-year-old designer was hired by the firm amid much fanfare, but his time with Calvin Klein subsequently fell short of investor and consumer expectations – and it was recently announced that Simons would be leaving the company before the end of his contract.
An insider told the New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column: “Raf spent a fortune doing up Calvin Klein’s Madison Avenue flagship store, which was fine as it was.
“He also blew a stack of money building a new Paris headquarters for the brand which looked more like an art gallery.
“Plus, CK/PVH had to pony up millions to the Warhol Foundation to license the images for the ‘partnership’ led by Simons which was met with collective indifference by the consumer.”
Simons’ contract was due to expire in August 2019, but in a recent statement announcing his departure, Calvin Klein explained that it wanted to find “a new brand direction”.
Despite this, both parties have refused to go into detail regarding the circumstances that led to Simons’ exit.
The statement read: “Both parties have amicably decided to part ways after Calvin Klein Inc. decided on a new brand direction which differs from Simons’s creative vision.”

KIm Kardashian and Kanye West relive wedding dance

OHMYGOSSIP — Kim Kardashian and Kanye West relived their wedding dance on Christmas Eve.
The couple took to the dancefloor at Kris Jenner’s annual bash at their Hidden Hills mansion to experience the special moment again, as John Legend serenaded them with a live performance of ‘All of Me’ in front of guests including Paris Hilton and Jennifer Lopez.
It was the first time the pair had heard their 40-year-old friend sing his hit song live since they tied the knot four years ago on May 24, 2014.
Alongside a series of pictures from the evening – which were taken by the same photographer who did the family’s Christmas card this year – including one of the couple dancing in each other’s arms and another of their 11-month-old daughter Chicago sat on the reality star’s lap, Kim wrote on Instagram: “Some pics from our Christmas Eve Party. We danced to “All Of Me” since the last time we heard @johnlegend sing this live it was at our wedding for our first dance! (sic)”
It’s been reported that the bash, which saw 200 guests in attendance, cost around $500,000 – with the biggest expense being a snowy backyard so guests could go sledging, and the series of tents erected, including the one John performed in.
The 63-year-old reality star spared no expense in making sure everyone had a great time – and insiders insist the celebration, which will be seen on ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’, was worth every penny.
The source explained: “‘The party needs to be eye-popping because it sets the tone for their empire, it creates a fantasy world and makes people want to tune in so $500,000 is nothing for them.
“The grand spectacle of the party also helps sell Kylie’s makeup, Kim’s perfumes, and Khloe’s jeans. It’s all about image.”
And despite the huge price tag, Kris reportedly bagged herself a bargain as party planner Mindy Weiss offered her a discount because they have worked together for so long.
Mindy spent several months planning the party, which Kris requested had a Winter Wonderland theme, and Kanye – who also has children North, five, Saint, three, with Kim – was also heavily involved in the arrangements.
The source said: “The direction was a dreamy look with no red and green. Last year Kris went heavy on red and green in her home. But this year it was at Kim and Kanye’s place, which is all white everywhere, so they wanted the decorations to be white too.
“It was also said that Kanye wanted it to be especially over the top for his three kids. He wanted it to look unreal.”
