Lauren Jauregui’s fear of rejection

OHMYGOSSIP — Lauren Jauregui’s “fear of failure and rejection” held her back.
The ‘Work From Home’ singer – who is currently working on her solo material after splitting from her Fifth Harmony bandmates Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane, Camila Cabello and Ally Brooke – admits there was a time where she feared being rejected so much that she realised it was “holding her back”.
She said: “The main lesson I learned whilst finding the confidence to write my own songs was that I was the one holding myself back. There was no one actually stopping me but me. It was my fear of failure and rejection that was stopping me because I love music and art that much.”
And the 22-year-old singer realised she could be just as amazing as some of the “incredible artists” she looked up to.
She added to Ladygunn magazine: “It was about realising that and telling myself over and over again, even when I didn’t believe it, ‘You can do this. This is what you do. You know you can write.’ You can’t wait for someone else’s approval or for someone else to tell you that you can do something just to be like, ‘Oh s**t, I’m actually good at this.'”
Meanwhile, Lauren previously revealed she gets told she is too “intense” at times.
Speaking about being told she’s too intense, she shared: “Oh, yeah. That definitely happens a lot but I don’t gravitate toward those people. If you’re not aware and conscious, or don’t care about being aware and conscious, that’s not my personal cup of tea as far as someone to hang out with. I don’t even like going to the club, and that’s where those people usually hang out. I can’t be friends with someone or engage with someone intimately that doesn’t understand or doesn’t care about everyone’s right to life. That’s just not in my capacity anymore. I’ve grown too far beyond that.”

Jane Danson told to appear on Dancing On Ice by co-star Samia Ghadie

OHMYGOSSIP — Jane Danson says Samia Ghadie told her she had to go for ‘Dancing On Ice’.
The ‘Coronation Street’ actress will be appearing on the upcoming eleventh series of the popular ITV skating competition, and Jane, 40, has revealed her 36-year-old co-star Samia – who plays Maria Connor on the ITV soap – “encouraged” her to sign up after appearing on the series back in 2013.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Jane said: “Yeah… Samia is one of my best friends. She said ‘it’s really hard, you’ll ache, you’ll be tired, but you’ve got to do it!’ She really encouraged me to do it.
“So, because all my friends have done it, I thought, they’ve all been through the same process… and they’ve been really supportive and I think that helps. When people are really encouraging, it makes you think maybe I can do this rather than being fearful of it.”
The blonde beauty is partnered with Samia’s husband and professional skater, Sylvain Longchambon, and has confessed that even though the pair are friends, “he’s not gone easy” on her with the rigorous training schedule.
Jane – who plays Leanne Battersby on the cobbles – added: “It’s great, because the foundations are already there. You know, we do know each other but we’re getting to know each other in a dancing capacity and I’m not a trained dancer so it’s quite difficult.
“Obviously he is a trained dancer so it comes so naturally to him. So it really is like being back at school a lot of the time. And just ’cause we’re friends, he’s not gone easy. He’s quite the perfectionist!”
Brian McFadden, Wes Nelson, Jane Danson, Didi Conn, Richard Blackwood and Saara Aalto are also among the celebrities taking part on the show this year.
‘Dancing On Ice’ returns to ITV on January 6.

Jodie Whittaker glad to have proven anyone can play the Doctor

OHMYGOSSIP — Jodie Whittaker has proven that a woman can play the Doctor.
The 36-year-old actress stepped into the iconic lead role in ‘Doctor Who’ for her first series in the TARDIS this year – following on from Peter Capaldi’s incarnation of the Time Lord – and she is glad to have made history.
Speaking at a special preview screening for the show’s New Year’s Day special ‘Resolution’, she said: “I’ve never walked round thinking, ‘I’m a girl in this situation’ – [though] there have been times where I’ve realised that there may have been some doors that were at a different angle to me, because of being a woman.
“I suppose playing the Doctor, because it’s an alien, and because the Doctor has two hearts, it means you don’t need any qualifications, you just need to go like that [gesturing outwards, with open arms] and that can be boy or girl.
“I think we knew that, but it’s wonderful to be the first person in a position to really say, ‘See? We can do it!’ ”
While fans are facing a long wait for Jodie’s second season, the BBC’s Director General added at the event that series 12 will hit the small screen “very early in 2020”.
And it could give fans more of an insight into the character of Yaz – played by Mandip Gill – after a fan asked whether viewers would see more of her as a police officer.
Digital Spy quote show runner Chris Chibnall as saying: “That’s a really good question. Some of these questions may be answered in the forthcoming series.”
The BBC previously announced that Jodie is set to be joined once again by Mandip, Bradley Walsh (Graham) and Tosin Cole (Ryan).
And the broadcaster heaped praise on the most recent series, which “averaged a four-screen consolidated audience of 8.4 million”.
Charlotte Moore, director of content, added: “We’re delighted that the Doctor and her friends will be returning to thrill audiences in 2020.
“I know Chris and the whole team are already working on a whole new set of exciting adventures. In the meantime we’ve got a very special episode on New Year’s Day for everyone to enjoy.”

Lars Von Trier welcomes walk outs

OHMYGOSSIP — Lars Von Trier thinks it’s “important” to have people walk out of his movies.
The controversial filmmaker’s latest offering, ‘The House That Jack Built’ saw audiences make early exits at early screenings in protest at the violent material, but he initially didn’t think he’d done anything too extreme.
He told SciFiNow magazine: “People have walked out on many of my films and I think that it’s important to have some walkouts.
“But I thought that this time, it’s just violence.
“That’s what every film has. There are some films that are much more violent than mine. But I was wrong – people really reacted to the violence.”
The movie – which stars Matt Dillon in the title role, a psycho killer – is set in Washington but was filmed in Sweden and Denmark, and the 62-year-old filmmaker revealed he’s still never been to America.
He said: “When I started making films, I saw that America was the film language, because most of the films I saw were American.
“It was important that the language was the right one.
“I’ve never been to America, but we found out with the help of some Americans that the landscape we wanted could be Washington.
“So that’s why three or four of my films have taken place there – it’s not because I hate Washington.”
The movie also stars Riley Keough – the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley and granddaughter of the late Elvis Presley – and Lars is keen to work with her again.
He said: “She’s a fantastic actress. I said to her, because I didn’t know who she was related to, ‘When we film, you’ll probably find me a little drunk and a little weird’, and she said, ‘I can cope’, and when I learned who her family were I understood.
“I would definitely like to work with her again.”

Ben Wheatley wanted to make non-violent film

OHMYGOSSIP — Ben Wheatley was determined to make his new flick ‘Happy New Year, Colin Burstead’ non-violent.
The 46-year-old director is known for his bloody films that contain an element of “violence” – his last project ‘Free Fire’ (2016) was about a shootout between two gangs set in Boston 1978 – but Ben has revealed he made the conscious decision to make a film where “no one had a hand laid on them”.
Speaking to Den Of Geek, Ben said: “I think it’s something to do with an issue with drama. Drama itself demands that things become more and more amped up. Violence and death, particularly in drama, is usually a metaphor for a kind of emotional death that happens in real life but people find a bit too boring to watch.
“I felt I was falling into the trap of maybe going to that point all the time. You see in drama all the time. The go-to thing is killing off children, everyone dies at the end or whatever. I did consciously want to make a film where no one was murdered.
“Not just murdered, but where no one had a hand laid on them, because most people go through their lives without that happening and if it happens its very, very rare. From my own experience, this is a lot lighter than things I have experienced.
“I thought the emotional peak is extreme enough without having to go to those places because that family would never recover if it came to blows.”
‘Happy New Year, Colin Burstead’ stars Neil Maskell as Colin, who hosts a New Year’s Eve party for his feuding family that sees his mum Sandy (Doon Mackichan), dad Donald (Bill Paterson), cross-dressing uncle Bertie (Charles Dance), sister Gini (Hayley Squires) and estranged brother David (Sam Riley) all turn up for the big event.
The British filmmaker also confessed that for this particular project he returned to “contemporary filmmaking” to make a movie that was “current” with the times.
Ben added: “The scale of it is smaller than the last two films but I’ve always jumped backwards and forwards in size of films so it’s not radically different, in terms of going from Sightseers, then A Field In England then back to High-Rise.
“What it’s more [of] is a return to contemporary filmmaking in a contemporary setting, which I haven’t done for three films. That was something I consciously wanted to do because I felt like I had made a lot of films I was slightly dodging or skirting around dealing with what was going on in the country. Even though all the films are political in their way, I just wanted to make something that was much more current.”

Nile Rodgers: Cancer battles inspired more collaborations

OHMYGOSSIP — Nile Rodgers’ cancer battles motivated him to do more collaborations and live shows.
The 66-year-old star – whose latest album ‘It’s About Time’ saw Chic team up with the likes of Sir Elton John and Lady Gaga – was been diagnosed with the disease in 2010 and 2017, which he overcame both times.
Explaining how it changed his outlook on life, he told the Daily Star newspaper: “When I was first diagnosed with cancer the doctor told me to contemplate life.
“I was like: ‘I’m going to do more collaborations that I’ve ever done before, more concert shows than I’ve ever done.’ And that’s what I’ll continue to do.”
In 2019, he’ll be releasing the follow-up to his latest record which will feature tracks with artists such as Bruno Mars, Jorja Smith and Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant.
Nile admitted the upcoming collection is essentially the second half of a double LP, but he chose to release them separately because of the way audiences are changing.
He explained: “I basically made two albums. ‘It’s About Time’, to me, feels like a movie in two parts because there is too much information.
“If it were the old days it would be a double album but I’m aware people don’t have the attention span any more.”
Nile also revealed his hopes that the new albums will change the public’s perception of him being a disco and dance producer.
He added: “I put people in this record that normally don’t seem to go together like Hailee Steinfeld singing with Chic?
“But I’ve always done this, when I bet [David Bowie] or The Clash they didn’t think of me as the disco uy, they just liked the music was playing.”

James Wan is respectful towards Aquaman haters

OHMYGOSSIP — James Wan is “respectful” of people who don’t like ‘Aquaman’.
The new superhero movie has proven to be a box-office success, but James says it’s okay if people haven’t been impressed by his efforts.
The director wrote on Twitter: “It has come to my attention that some folks are getting harassed by some fans for not liking AQM. Please don’t do that. Not the kind of support I want. Be respectful. Vice versa, it’s ok to not like my film, but there’s no need to attack me personally, or tag me on hates. Peace (sic)”
The new movie boasts a star-studded cast that includes the likes of Jason Momoa, Amber Heard and Nicole Kidman.
And Jason – who plays the lead role in the much-hyped DC movie – previously admitted that he’s never received such a wave of support from fans for any project he’s worked on.
The actor – who previously starred on the hit HBO series ‘Game of Thrones’ – confessed: “It’s never really happened to me so it’s an absolute great feeling to put in hard work and then people not be ripping apart before it comes out, because that’s always the hard thing is making these movies and then critics just kill out and then they never see the light of day.
“It’s nice people are responding well to it.”

Mike Tyson to hold cannabis-themed music festival

OHMYGOSSIP — Mike Tyson is set to host a cannabis-themed music festival next year.
The 52-year-old former professional boxer has announced plans to host Kind Music Festival in California, an all-ages “pop-up” that embraces the state’s updated cannabis regulations.
The event is said to kick off on February 23 2019, on Tyson’s Ranch Resort in the Desert Hot Springs, which boasts 420 acres of land and will feature luxury glamping and include a cannabis research and design facility, food trucks, inflatable rides, obstacle courses, mazes, and a “Chillville” with 100 specialty bean bags.
Although the festival will allow patrons to bring cannabis into the grounds of the event, they won’t actually be selling any cannabis products themselves.
A press release for the event read: “[The festival will have] the distinction of being the first-ever all-ages music festival that embraces California’s updated cannabis regulations and offering alcoholic consumption to those 21+. However, in accordance with the 2019 laws, there will be no sales of cannabis products at the festival.”
The line-up for the festival is set to be announced on January 2.
Kind Music Festival won’t be Mike’s first foray into music either, as in January last year he dropped a diss track aimed at Soulja Boy when he was training Chris Brown for his proposed boxing match with the fellow rapper, which was made after the pair engaged in a public feud on Twitter, and which was later called off.
On the track, called ‘If You Show Up’, Mike sings: “If you show up, it’s going down, I’m gonna teach him how to knock your ass out … I’m Mike Tyson and you’re gonna feel the wrath.”

Pusha T: It will be hard to top 2018

OHMYGOSSIP — Pusha T admits it will be hard for him “to top” 2018.
The 41-year-old rap star has enjoyed a hugely successful 12-month spell in his career, which has included the release of his album ‘Daytona’ and a Grammy nomination, but Pusha is still looking forward to 2019 with excitement.
He told Essence magazine: “2018 was pretty great all around for me. It will be hard to top it, but [it’s] not going to stop me from trying.”
As well as being excited about his own future, Pusha is also excited to see where hip-hop music might go in 2019.
He shared: “Hip-hop is the youngest genre and it’s only going to get bigger.
“As time goes on, you see there being different lanes for different types of artists and the styles evolving. The world is catching up slowly and the mix of cultures is only going to shake things up even more.”
Meanwhile, away from music, Pusha also married his long-term partner Virginia Williams earlier this year.
The rapper tied the knot in a star-studded ceremony officiated by his brother at the Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach.
Pusha had his close friend, ‘Happy’ hitmaker Pharrell Williams, by his side as best man at the wedding, while guests included Kim Kardashian West and her husband Kanye West.
TMZ obtained a copy of the couple’s wedding programme, which featured cool portraits of all the people involved in the wedding party.

Kerry Katona vows to quit smoking

OHMYGOSSIP — Kerry Katona wants to try and quit smoking again in 2019.
The former Atomic Kitten singer – who has Molly, 17, and Lilly-Sue, 15, with ex-husband Brian McFadden, Heidi, 11, and Max, 10, with second spouse Mark Croft and four-year-old Dylan-Jorge with third husband George Kay – ditched her deadly habit earlier this year, but annoyed her children by picking up her cigarettes again while on holiday with then-boyfriend Ryan Mahoney so she’s determined to do her best to quit for good in the coming months.
Asked her New Year’s resolutions, she told new! magazine: “To continue in my quest to give up smoking.
“I stopped in May, but when I went to Thailand with Ryan back in October, I bumped into my friend who smokes like a trooper and I picked one up and started again.
“The kids were annoyed, but it’s my only vice these days. I’ll keep trying.”
The 38-year-old star has always been open about her struggles with bipolar disorder and though she feels “good” now, she thinks it’s important to be honest when she’s having a bad day.
She said: “Back in the day, when I was with Mark, it would consume me. But I’m good now.
“I have it for life and, yes, I do have my down days but I have to get up in the morning as my kids don’t have anyone else to rely on.
“I like to show the reality on social media because I’m an ambassador for mental health and social media is so fake most of the time. It’s good for people to see that I struggle sometimes too.”
And Kerry doesn’t mind her kids seeing her struggles because she thinks it’s just as important.
She said: “I’m completely open with my kids about my mental health, the drink, drugs, and everything I’ve been through.
“I want them to know what to do and what not to do.”

Dove Cameron pulls out of Clueless The Musical shows due to back injury

OHMYGOSSIP — Dove Cameron suffered an injury to her “upper spine and neck”, which caused her to pull out of several ‘Clueless The Musical’ performances.
The 22-year-old actress is currently starring as Cher Horowitz in the off-Broadway musical adaptation of the 1995 film ‘Clueless’ – which stars Alicia Silverstone as Cher – and has explained that her recent absence from the stage was due to an injury that left her unable to “rotate” her neck or back.
Taking to Instagram to explain her injuries, Dove said: “hi loves – you’ve been asking what sent me to the ER the other night & i didn’t wanna leave you hanging.
“while i was dancing, something happened with my upper spine and neck & the surrounding nerves, which is why i couldn’t rotate my neck or back. i’ll be fine, but i need to rest and not aggravate my injury for a few days. because of this, i have had to miss a few performances of #CluelessTheMusical. it’s made me sadder than anything, but @katiegoffman & the whole cast and company is so tremendous, i know you all saw some incredible shows, which warms my heart to no end.”
The ‘Descendants’ actress then slammed those who think her absence is due to being “lazy”, as she said people don’t understand how “physically demanding” her job can be.
She continued: “what doesn’t warm my heart, is seeing all of the cruel messages that i was getting on for being out of the show. even though i had communicated that i was taking care of my health, i got messages saying i ‘ruined someone’s holiday’, or that i was so ‘so lazy’ because i ‘couldn’t get it together just for one show’ or i ‘didn’t care about my fans’ … i see this happen all the time with artists who are expected to be like robots and never go down, when our jobs are incredibly physically demanding (as our body IS our livelihood and job) and when we are, in fact, only human.”
Dove closed her post by promising fans she’d be back in her “Cher knee-highs” as soon as possible.
She wrote: “it doesn’t help anyone to spread cruelty, especially when you don’t always know what’s happening behind the scenes of someone’s life. & i can’t wait to be back in my Cher knee-highs ASAP for #cluelessthemusical (sic)”

John Krasinski grateful to have Emily Blunt on A Quiet Place

OHMYGOSSIP — John Krasinski was grateful to have Emily Blunt on the set of ‘A Quiet Place’.
The 39-year-old actor says his wife was the “best collaborator” he’s ever worked with and it was nice having his spouse around on the set.
He said: “It was unilaterally helpful for me, because I had everything going for me with her. I had someone who could deliver a performance when we were running out of time, running out of budget. She would hit her mark, and hit her performance every single time. I had that. I also had someone that, after she did her scenes, would stay around, and not only be there for me, but be there for the entire cast and crew … She was my best collaborator.”
Whilst Emily added: “I feel the same. I think that we do collaborate really well. It turns out we do work really well together. There were scenes that were certainly traumatic to do … and you can’t help but be upset by some of those scenes when you’re doing them. They creep under your skin before you know it. But I do feel that John and I are able to find levity in most places.”
And John – who directed and starred in the thriller movie – revealed how Emily admitted that this was the first movie where she had the same fears as her character did.
He told Deadline: “When we first started talking about it, Emily said it would be the scariest role she’d ever played. I asked her why. She said, ‘Up until now, every performance has been pretending. Professional pretending. This is the first time I’ve had the same fears as my character.’ Not that monsters would come out of the woods to eat the kids, but that thought of, what if I wasn’t there in my kids’ moment of need? It was our biggest fear.”

Zoe Kravitz not restricted by race

OHMYGOSSIP — Zoe Kravitz looks for roles written for women of a different race.
The ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ actress is proud of her multicultural heritage and wants to “challenge” stereotypes based on ethnicity within her career.
She said: “I identify with both my black and white roots. My parents are a mix of Jewish and African American.
“Obviously, both of these groups have had large struggles in the past, so I feel proud to connect to their cultures.
“I think the only way to deal with racial identity is to remember that no one else can tell you who you are based on the colour of your skin, especially in an industry where someone can say, ‘Oh no, you can’t play this kind of role because of the colour of your skin.’
“I continue to challenge that, and look for parts that were maybe written for someone of a different race.
“If I identify with the story, I can identify with the character and hopefully people will open their minds about how they see a doctor or a lawyer. There’s no rule that says a lawyer can’t be a black woman with tattoos.”
The 30-year-old actress used to find it “exciting” when she was recognised and fans wanted to take photos, but now she’s realised it’s important to be able to have her own private time away from work.
She told Britain’s Marie Claire magazine: “My biggest boundary issue is being recognised and people constantly wanting to take pictures. At first it’s exciting and a huge compliment, and you just want to know everyone.
“But I also have to remember that when I’m not working, I’m not working.
“Although it’s hard to say no, sometimes you feel vulnerable and don’t want your photo taken.
“Also, the time that I have with my friends and family is now so valuable and necessary for my mental health that I want to focus that energy on them.
“I’m trying to find the right balance, but doing normal stuff like going to the grocery store is so important. Just making sure I take the time to be a human being, really.”

John Krasinski was ‘mind-tricked’ to write A Quiet Place sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — John Krasinski was “mind-tricked” into writing a sequel to ‘A Quiet Place’.
The 39-year-old actor directed and starred in the thriller flick, which also co-stars his wife Emily Blunt and sees the pair with their two children, Marcus (Noah) and Regan (Millicent) in a post-apocalyptic world that has been taken over by blind monsters with an acute sense of hearing.
However Krasinksi has revealed he never intended on doing a sequel and was duped into writing his idea for the next movie.
Speaking to Deadline, he said: “I’ll be honest with you: I really didn’t want to do the sequel. It was never built to launch sequels, which we all knew, and the studio knew too. But also, I’m a realist.
“I know that when you have a success like this, everyone wants to make another one. I told them to go find another filmmaker and writer, and they said, ‘But don’t you have an idea?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I have a tiny idea,’ so they said, ‘OK, while we’re talking to other people, keep thinking about it’. They basically mind-tricked me into wanting to write it.
“But the idea for it is pretty simple. I’m writing now–I don’t have it fleshed out–but the thought that occurred to me, that really excited me about it, was that most sequels are about the return of a hero or a villain. You take this character that people loved once and you bring them back, and you have to create a new world around them.
“We have the exact opposite setup. We have the world, and you can drop whoever you want into that world and everyone feels connected to it. The reason I decided to go back, in the end, was this world is so rich, and it’s so much fun to explore.”
John – who shares Hazel, four and Violet, two, with Blunt – also confessed that the film was a “perfect metaphor for parenthood” and was like writing a “love letter” for his kids.
Opening up about how being a father-of-two linked with his performance, John added: “I mean, I think it’s the reason why I did the movie. I’ve talked about it before, but I couldn’t watch a horror movie, let alone make one. The thing with this was the truly overwhelming sense of clarity that hit me, that the movie would be the perfect metaphor for parenthood.
“Yes, it would be scary. Yes, it would have tension and all those things. But it would also be like writing a love letter for my kids. In every word I wrote, or every shot I directed, and all through the performance.”

Paul Weller doesn’t want to alienate fans

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Weller doesn’t want to “alienate” his fans.
The former Jam frontman is keen to “challenge” his audiences so stays away from crowd-pleasing greatest hits sets in his live shows, but hopes they appreciate that and enjoy his “journey”.
Asked if he worries his fans won’t move on with him, he said: “Of course. I wouldn’t do it to try and alienate people. I would hope that people would come along with me on the journey.
“Not everyone does and that’s fair enough, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but if I was a fan I’d take it as a compliment that the artist in question was trying to challenge me.”
However, he admitted when he first left the Jam, his decision to ignore his time with the band and not perform their songs was done to be “confrontational”.
He told Q magazine: “I was doing it from a confrontational point of view back then, which is absurd really.
“Instead of trying to involve people and be nice about it, I was trying to set up a wall. ‘What do you mean you don’t f***ing like it?’ This is great, this i where we’re going.
“Now if I do something different, I genuinely want people to come with me.”
The 60-year-old musician enjoyed a career resurgence with the release of his 2008 record ’22 Dreams’ and he admitted he’s embraced the “creative freedom” he’s had over the last decade.
He said: “I loved my 50s. I’ve got a creative freedom in the last few years where I’m not afraid to try whatever. I feel like the sky’s the limit.
“Time’s the biggest thing for me, my clock is ticking over, my meter is on the go.”

Taylor Swift’s favourite tour moment

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift had a moment when the crowd sang ‘All Too Well’ back to her on tour.
The ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ hitmaker admits it was amazing hearing her fans “consistently” singing the ballad back to her as it was never made into a single.
Sharing a clip from her Reputation concert film, which was recorded at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, she said: “‘All Too Well’ was never a single and it always blows my mind that it is consistently one of the loudest songs the crowd sings when I play it. Moments like this defined the Reputation Stadium Tour for me, and I can’t wait for you to see it in full.”
Meanwhile, Taylor previously admitted she feels “so lucky” to have fans that “care” about her.
She said: “[I wanted to do a show] that would make you feel like you were escaping and going into a different world. I’m so happy that that’s the kind of show that you’ve wanted to see, because it makes it so much fun to create a world for you. I’m so lucky to get to do that. I’m so lucky you care about anything I create, whether it be music or a stage show. Thank you for coming tonight, and thank you for coming to be a part of my life. I love you.
“Every single performer that you see on this stage, whether it be a dancer, or a background singer, or a member of the band, when I say that these are crowds we never even thought we would get to be in front of, even in our wildest dreams.”
