Emily Blunt’s Mary Poppins added ‘sharpness’ to the character

OHMYGOSSIP — David Magee thinks Emily Blunt’s portrayal of Mary Poppins included more of a “sharpness” then the original character.
The director of ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ has admitted that in the reboot of the 1964 musical, the leading star added the “façade of a stern nanny” to the role – made iconic by her predecessor from Julie Andrews – and the filmmaker was able to “play with that”.
In an interview with Deadline, he said: “I think when we read the books, we all enjoyed her quirkiness, her vanity, her sharpness sometimes toward the children, and her ability to hide her warmth and caring behind a façade of a stern nanny.
“And it was fun to play with that. I don’t think we consciously said, ‘We’re going to do 40% from the books, and 30% from the movie,’ or whatever, but as we were working on it, that was the character that most excited us.
“And then when Emily came aboard, she took everything that I did in the script to another level, because she just had that. So, it was a wonderful process, watching it unfold.”
The director explained that he carried out research on the era in which the film is set prior to filming so he can tell the most effective story possible.
He added “I try to always do my research into the era, so I read up on banking practices, and how shares certificates for companies work, and what happened in foreclosure in London during that era.
“At a certain point, you absorb all you can, and then you think, ‘Well, what do we need for this story? And what do people want for this story?’
“I don’t think they want a lesson in banking; I don’t think they want to know how contracts worked back then. We learned all we could, and then we took the license that we wanted in order to tell the story that mattered most to us.”

But according to an insider, Selena is now feeling much more positive and is determined to make the most of her opportunities in 2019.

She’s following a simple daily routine that involves a work out, either hiking, Pilates or hot yoga, therapy sessions and spending time with friends.”

Andy Cohen having a baby boy

OHMYGOSSIP — Andy Cohen is having a baby boy.
The 50-year-old star announced on his show ‘Watch What Happens Live’ days before Christmas that he will welcome his first child via a surrogate “in around six weeks time”, and he’s since revealed the gender of his impending arrival.
Speaking to host Anderson Cooper on CNN’s live New Year’s Eve’s show, he said: “I remember last year standing here thinking, ‘Will my baby be born this year?’
“So, this is the biggest year for me.”
Asked if he’d like to reveal the sex of the unborn baby, he replied: “It’s a boy.
“And, I got to tell you something, I can not wait to meet this boy. I think he’s going to have a nice Semitic head of hair. I’m so excited I think about nothing else.”
Andy never thought it would be “possible” to have a family as a gay man and praised his “wonderful” surrogate.
He said: “I just never thought it would be possible as a gay man to grow up and have a family.
“And, then here we are in 2018, almost [2019], and anything’s possible. I’m so grateful to a wonderful surrogate that I’m working with. I turned 50 this year, and it takes some people longer to get to that place and it took me this time.”
The comedian made his announcement at the end of his final ‘Watch What Happens Live’ show of 2018 on December 20.
He said: “I am grateful to be able to live my dream every day and grateful to you for coming along for the ride.
“I don’t take any of it for granted and throughout it I’ve always tried to be as transparent as possible.
“I overshare and I expect everyone around me to do the same.
“Tonight, I want you to be the first to know that after many years of careful deliberation, a fair amount of prayers, and the benefit of science, if all goes according to plan in about six weeks time, I’m going to become a father.
“Thanks to a wonderful surrogate who is carrying my future.”

Joanna Lumley to return as the BAFTAs host

OHMYGOSSIP — Joanna Lumley is set to return as the host of this year’s BAFTAs.
The 72-year-old actress – who hosted the awards bash in 2018, replacing Stephen Fry in the role – has been confirmed as the presenter of the annual awards show, which is to be staged on February 10.
BAFTA said via its official Twitter account: “We are excited to be welcoming back the phenomenal Joanna Lumley as host of the #EEBAFTAs Film Awards @RoyalAlbertHall on 10 February! (sic)”
It’s also been confirmed that the ceremony will feature a performance from Cirque du Soleil.
Emma Baehr, the Director of Awards at BAFTA, said: “We’re delighted to be returning to the iconic Royal Albert Hall for the third year and collaborating again with Cirque du Soleil.
“We’re thrilled that Joanna has agreed to return as our host for a second year, she was fantastic and we’re looking forward to the ceremony with her once again at the helm.”
Joanna previously admitted she was delighted to have been offered the chance to host the BAFTAs.
She said: “I’m really just literally the host. It’s a good word, the host: it means make sure everybody is happy.
“My thrill of accepting this honour of presenting is because I adore film. The excellence of films is what I adore: the whole of the BAFTA film awards is about the brilliance of performances direction, art direction, costumes…”
Meanwhile, Amanda Berry – BAFTA’s CEO – previously revealed that Joanna’s acceptance speech for her BAFTA TV Fellowship in 2017 helped her to land the presenting role.
She said: “It is not an easy job. You need to get the tone absolutely right. You need to be able to guide the audience seamlessly through proceedings while keeping the attention on the nominees.
“We were all taken aback by Joanna’s brilliant speech when she received the BAFTA TV Fellowship last year. She was so charming and mesmerising.
“When we talked about candidates she was on the list from early on. It wasn’t a difficult decision.”

Prue Leith gets photographer husband to take fan pictures

OHMYGOSSIP — Prue Leith enlists her photographer husband to take pictures of her with her fans.
The ‘Great British Bake Off’ judge gets her 71-year-old hubby John Playfair to snap photos of her and her supporters so she can avoid unflattering selfies of her being shared on social media.
The 78-year-old chef told BBC satellite radio: “My new husband, who I’ve only been married to for two years, is the most terrific photographer.
“He whips people’s phone off them and says, ‘I’ll take the picture. That’s my job.’
“And it’s very good, because when they do a selfie, it’s up your nostrils. You look as if you’re on Skype.
“And I’m vain enough to want it to reappear on Twitter looking good, with my book in front.”
Prue was married from 1974 to author Rayne Kruger, who died in December 2002, aged 80, and in October 2016 she married her current husband, who is a retired clothes designer.
Prue – who has written 12 cookery books including ‘Leith’s Cookery Bible’ and seven novels – trained at the Cordon Bleu Cookery School and then began a catering business.
The businesswoman has previously acknowledged that judging on ‘Bake Off’ has broadened her fan base to a young audience who weren’t even born when she was writing some of her cookbooks.
She said: “I’m 78, and there is this whole new lease of life and a young audience who have never heard of me.
“They weren’t alive when I was writing cookbooks before.
“So it’s been really stimulating, and a lot of fun.”

Ardal O’Hanlon on Death In Paradise future

OHMYGOSSIP — Ardal O’Hanlon doesn’t see himself doing ‘Death In Paradise’ “forever”.
The 53-year-old actor – who has played detective inspector Jack Mooney in the BBC crime drama since 2017 – has admitted that while he loves being on set, he isn’t sure how long he’ll stay in the role for.
Speaking to What’s On TV, he said: “I never really know from year to year. It’s a tough gig but still very enjoyable.
“Saying that, I couldn’t imagine doing it forever. I fudged that question didn’t I? I should go into politics!”
Ardal also opened up about the departure of Danny John-Jules, who left his role as Dwayne Myers at the end of the seventh series, and won’t be returning for the upcoming run.
The former ‘Father Ted’ star is glad he doesn’t make the decisions when it comes to moving on without one of the show’s original stars, with newcomer Shyko Amos joining the cast as Ruby Patterson.
He added: “You always wonder what will happen and how we replace him. Luckily it’s totally out of my hands and I don’t envy the people making those decisions.
“The new officer, Ruby, is an amazing, slightly cartoonish character and she brings lots of fun, energy and comedy to the show.
“‘Death in Paradise’ is robust and it seems to survive cast changes well, there won’t be any radical differences. Jack’s more integrated into the community now too, he knows how the island ticks and he’s no longer a fish out of water.”
Ardal and the cast have been filming on the Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe, and he joked he must have landed the job because he isn’t too “sweaty”.
He laughed: “Luckily I’m not sweaty so they don’t have to bring multiples of the same shirt. It’s the only reason I was cast in the role – other actors would do a better job but they sweat too much.”

Bradley Walsh got ill during father-son road trip

OHMYGOSSIP — Bradley Walsh and his son both got ill during filming for their new show ‘Breaking Dad’.
The 58-year-old star and his 20-year-old son Barney have joined forces for an adrenaline-fuelled new programme as they take on challenges during a road trip across America, but the experience proved to be very intense for the pair.
Speaking ‘This Morning’, Bradley said: “I don’t wanna spoil it because it’s in a later episode but there was one point that I thought I’d taken it too far.
“I had to do the activity first and I was like, ‘Wow, this is tough.’ It actually made us ill for a couple of days didn’t it? It actually made us ill.”
Some of the tasks facing the duo include driving tasks, cowboy training and alligator feeding.
Arriving in the US to start the journey was also a difficult experience for the ‘Doctor Who’ actor, as he admitted he had no idea he would have to drive their RV for 2,000 miles across the country.
He explained: “We turned up in this RV park in Hollywood, and the whole placed was amazing.
“Before we went, they said ‘Brad, can we have your driving license?’
“I went, ‘Sure, no problem, have my driving license’, thinking we’re gonna be getting a little hire car as well, and someone’s gonna be driving the RV for the 2,000 miles. So we get there and he breaks the news, ‘Right, you’re up.’ ”
Bradley – who is also known for hosting quiz show ‘The Chase’ – was scared about driving the huge vehicle, which was nothing like anything he’d taken control of before.
He added: “It’s 36ft long. I’ve never driven anything like that before. I’ve never even driven vans. Yeah, of course [I was scared]. You think I’m joking, but this is actually as it happened!”
‘Bradley Walsh & Son: Breaking Dad’ – which runs for four episodes – starts tonight (02.01.19) at 8pm on ITV.

Charlie Brooker has no plans for more interactive Black Mirror episodes

OHMYGOSSIP — Charlie Brooker has no plans for more interactive ‘Black Mirror’ episodes.
The anthology series returned on December 28 with a one-off special episode called ‘Bandersnatch’, which put the viewers in control of their own experiences by allowing them to choose where the story would branch off to, with five possible endings each with their own variants.
Asked if he had any advice for people looking at interactive television, the show’s creator quipped: “Run away. It’s harder than you think.”
Charlie also opened up about the level of thought for the episode – which saw two-and-a-half hours of footage filmed – including the ease with which viewers could end up in another loop, despite reaching the end.
He said: “There’s a ‘Groundhog Day’ aspect where it keeps cycling around, deliberately so.”
While nothing has been officially announced for the highly-anticipated fifth series of the Netflix show, Charlie admitted he wants to turn the show on its head and move away from the programme’s usual dark technological themes.
He explained: “We’re doing more optimistic episodes and stories, rather than just dystopian and negative ones. We want to keep the show interesting for us.”
‘Bandersnatch’ was unveiled after Miley Cyrus revealed she will be appearing in the show’s fifth season.
Opening up about filming during the Californian wildfires last month, she recently said: “There’s a lot of dimension to it, and actually it was while the devastation of Malibu was happening, and it was a really weird learning experience for me because I was so far from home and the show is already really dark, and it’s already kind of eerie when you’re there the whole time.
“But I learned a lot about myself, and I think I was able to use that and put that into it.”

Mark Jordon and Laura Norton engaged

OHMYGOSSIP — Mark Jordon and Laura Norton are engaged.
The ‘Emmerdale’ actor – who plays Daz Spencer on the ITV soap – has popped the question to his co-star (Kerry Wyatt), admitting he was “elated to have heard the word ‘yes” from her, after a mixed 2018.
He wrote on Twitter: “Well 2018 had some of the highest highs and the lowest lows. Really got to feel the love of true friends . Feel blessed by the support of my children and elated to have heard the word “yes ” from the most beautiful woman in the world (sic)”
Mark and Laura’s happy news comes less than a month after he pleaded not guilty to attacking a pensioner.
He appeared at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester in December where he denied wounding and common assault following an alleged incident on July 1 in Oldham, north west England.
The 53-year-old actor was granted bail by judge Mark Savill until his trial, which is scheduled to take place on July 29 next year. Mark was previously charged with grievous bodily harm and assault.
A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) spokesman recently said: “Mark Jordon of Tamewater Court, Oldham, has been charged with GBH and section 39 common assault.”
Laura recently admitted she and Mark like to watch Netflix shows of an evening to “get ideas of how to play things” when they are acting.
She said: “There was a day recently where we had 15 scenes to do in the Spencer house, and they were all quite emotional.
“By the end of it, I couldn’t see straight.
“I usually go home and put on Netflix. Mark and I will watch something with a similar sort of story so we can get ideas of how to play things.”
The pair’s news comes after their fellow ‘Emmerdale’ co-star Fiona Wade (Priya Sharma) got engaged to her former co-star Simon Cotton (Hugh Bryant) in late December.

James Buckley up for another Inbetweeners movie

OHMYGOSSIP — James Buckley would be willing to make another ‘Inbetweeners’ movie.
The 31-year-old actor played Jay Cartwright on the cult British sitcom – which spawned two spin-off movies – and he has admitted that he would be up for revisiting his outrageous character.
Appearing on Channel 4’s special ‘The Inbetweeners: Fwends Reunited’ programme – which marked ten years since the hit comedy came out – host Jimmy Carr asked James if he’d agree to another edition of the series, to which he quickly responded with an authoritative “yes”.
Despite the ‘Zapped’ star’s enthusiasm for revisiting the show, the actor – who appeared on the reunion with co-stars Simon Bird, Joe Thomas and Blake Harrison – nearly died in a filming mishap during the ‘Field Trip’ episode.
The infamous scenes from the second series of the hit E4 comedy saw the actor’s alter ego set off a flare, and it nearly took a horrible turn when James didn’t properly listen to instructions while on a boat with his co-fellow actors.
Speaking on the special, Blake said: “He genuinely could have died.
“He looked down the barrel of it before it goes off and we were told don’t ever do that because if it goes off, it has the force of a grenade.
“So when James does that and half a second later it comes out, that’s how close we were to recasting.”
The programme was the first time the four stars have appeared on the small screen together since the final episode ‘The Camping Trip’ in 2010.

Shane Nolan Jr horrified by mother’s sex story

OHMYGOSSIP — Coleen Nolan’s son Shane Nolan Jr was horrified when she revealed details of an embarrassing sex story on ‘Loose Women’.
The 30-year-old singer revealed that he felt super “awkward” when his mother shared his sex story on live television.
In 2015, the 53-year-old television presenter told viewers: “Let me say I listened for four and a half minutes. Four and a half minutes! I was dead impressed. I hope he’s not watching this.”
Recalling his reaction to his mum’s confession, Shane told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “That was an awkward moment while I was having my Frosties.
“I was like ‘whoa, that’s private! Now she rings me before she says anything on TV. I have to be very careful about what I tell my mum.”
Shane – who is named after his dad and Coleen’s ex-husband, actor Shane Richie – also revealed he heard his own parents having sex and is still “scarred” from the experience.
He said: “I’m still scarred by it. I had to take my little brother downstairs.
“I was a kid, but old enough to know what was going.”
Meanwhile, the musician has insisted he’s determined to be a success in his own right and not just because of his famous parents.
He said: “I want to break out of my mum and dad’s shadow.
Everything I do, I don’t want to be like, ‘I only got that because dad is on the album or because mum is on telly.'”

The 32-year-old singer split from her long-time partner Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs earlier this year following their 11-year romance, and The Blast has now revealed the identity of the new man in her life.
Alex, 25, is one of the best-known personal trainers in the entertainment business, with his client list featuring the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Kelly Ripa.
Alex’s health tips have also helped him to gain an impressive following on Instagram, where he posts some of his dietary secrets.
Cassie recently posed for a kiss with her new boyfriend for an Instagram snap, but until now, his identity has remained a mystery.
Meanwhile, Diddy admitted prior to their split, that he was deeply in love with Cassie.
The chart-topping rap star claimed Cassie was the true love of his life during an interview in 2017.

Simon Cowell blames honours snub on Panama Papers furore

OHMYGOSSIP — Simon Cowell thinks he’s been left off the New Year’s Honours list because of his links to the Panama Papers.
The 59-year-old music mogul has been repeatedly overlooked for one of the coveted accolades, despite his TV and charity work – and Simon is convinced it’s because of his non-illegal affiliation with the the Panama Papers, which revealed the offshore tax accounts of dozens of well-known people.
Simon – who has raised millions for charity over the years – told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “The first thing you have to ask is, ‘Are you doing it [charity work] to get something out of it?’ No, of course I’m not.
“I love what I do and am very fortunate to be able to help when I can. The Panama thing was the one and only time the tax thing was raised, the only time that I have ever had a problem.
“It was more of an issue because every year I have a check with the Inland Revenue and I have never, ever, ever owed money to the revenue – or evaded tax – in my entire career.
“It was something that was being set up which we didn’t understand and when we did understand it, we didn’t use it. Even though the companies were formed, they weren’t used.
“In my position, they go through our tax returns so thoroughly. Actually, I am on speaking terms with HMRC, that’s how much I work with them. If I’m unsure about something, I call them directly to tell me what is right. I do it myself.”
However, Simon insisted he’s philosophical about the possibility of receiving an honour.
He said: “Obviously I wouldn’t turn one down but you have to do these things for the right reasons.
“I know a lot of people do this stuff because they want recognition, and great. But if it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, life goes on.”

Kate Upton ‘has a long way to go’ with her baby weight

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Upton still has “a long way to go” to lose her baby weight.
The 26-year-old model – who gave birth to her daughter in November – has admitted in a new Instagram post that she’s struggling to shed her excess weight, although she’s determined “not to get down” on herself.
Alongside a family shot of her walking along a seafront, Kate – who married baseball star Justin Verlander in 2017 – wrote: “Getting in a little cardio with a family beach walk. I’m not going to lie to you and tell you I’ve been working out and eating healthy. It’s so hard over the holidays. Traveling and enjoying time with my family! I’m trying not to get down on myself. Instead use it as motivation to get right back at it! I have a long way to go to lose this baby weight but feeling determined for 2019! #strong4me (sic)”
Prior to giving birth, Kate revealed she’d been working out because it had made her feel “better”.
The model – who announced her pregnancy in July – said: “I stopped working out for a month [because I] was so tired and there was so much travel. But I’ve been completely trying to stay healthy and work out through the pregnancy, and doing the best I can. It makes me feel better, honestly.
“What I’m working toward is different. Instead of working toward being super fit, I’m strengthening my pelvic [area] and doing a lot of hip thrusts, body-weight hip thrusts and lunges and squats to help with delivery and make it easier, hopefully. Fingers crossed.”
Kate also revealed Justin, 35, was disappointed that she wasn’t gripped by bizarre food cravings.
She shared: “Justin was the most excited about weird cravings. He kept being like, ‘I can’t wait for the pickle run in the middle of the night.’ I’m like, ‘Okay.’ But I haven’t had anything. I’m fine with all food…”

Joanna Lumley feels heartbroken to have lost Dame June Whitfeld

OHMYGOSSIP — Joanna Lumley feels “heartbroken” by the death of her close friend Dame June Whitfield.
The 72-year-old actress has paid tribute to her ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ co-star – who died peacefully on Friday night (28.12.18) age 93 – saying June’s sensational talent will always be remembered.
Joanna told ITV News: “I am heartbroken to lose such a darling friend and shall never forget her sensational talent, humour and her generosity to us all who had the joy of working with her on ‘Ab Fab’.
“She will always have a most special place in my heart.”
TV producer Jon Plowman, who worked on ‘Absolutely Fabulous’, has also hailed the talents of the late star, saying there was “no-one with a better ability to just ‘place’ a line, always an act of utter precision”.
He told BBC Radio 5: “You would hand her a script, she would work out where the laughs were and then would very quietly wipe the floor with everybody else.”
Similarly, Shane Allen, the controller of BBC Comedy, described June as “the North Star of British comedy”.
He explained: “Her spectacular career is unparalleled in its longevity, with seven decades of being a key element in numerous high profile and successful shows. She was the go-to female comedy performer of her generation and was always in demand from the cream of British comedy.”
The London-born actress was a regular fixture on TV and radio for decades, starring in more than 1,300 radio and TV shows.
But the humble star always claimed that a lack of confidence in her looks made her decide to concentrate on comedy.
She shared: “I believed that, since the audience was going to laugh at me anyway, I might as well be in things that were meant to be laughed at.”
June was made a Dame in the 2017 Birthday Honours for services to drama and entertainment.

John C. Reilly was moved by Ralph Breaks the Internet

OHMYGOSSIP — John C. Reilly was “moved” by ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’.
The 53-year-old actor is proud of the Disney movie because it reaches out to children – rather than allowing its tone and feel to be driven by financial concerns.
John told Collider: “It’s always satisfying when people go see a movie that you’ve done, as opposed to the alternative.
“But honestly, if I thought about the financial worries of the different studios, I would never get out of bed in the morning.
“That’s a lot of money on the line, and it’s not really my department. What I was really satisfied with was when I saw the film and it really moved me.
“It made sense to me, and it made me feel like we were giving girls something that a Disney movie maybe hasn’t given them so much before, or that we were giving kids emotional nourishment.
“We were talking about real relationship stuff, and what it’s like for a boy and a girl to have a friendship, and what that requires when people grow.
“For a movie about digital characters in the internet, we cover some very human things, and that’s what I’m proud of. I would be proud of that whether the movie made any money or not.”
The actor has reprised his role as Wreck-It Ralph in the sequel, and has previously revealed how he goes about recording his lines for animated movies.
He stated: “I just do as many takes as I can until I feel like I did the best or the most honest way I can do it. That’s usually what I’m chasing.”
