Jon S. Baird has close friendship with Martin Scorsese

OHMYGOSSIP — Jon S. Baird has revealed Martin Scorsese took him under his “wing” after they first met and he told the legendary director that his movie ‘King of Comedy’ had inspired him to become a filmmaker.
The Scottish director worked with Scorsese on his HBO drama ‘Vinyl’ and after their initial meeting the pair have kept in contact and Baird regularly goes to the New Yorker’s house for dinner.
Opening up about his friendship with Scorsese, 76, and his gushing praise when they first met Baird said: “By the look on his face, you could tell that he sort of hears this all the time. He was probably thinking I was going to mention ‘Taxi Driver’ or ‘Raging Bull’ or ‘Goodfellas’, but then I said that ‘King of Comedy’ was the one that really got me interested in filmmaking, and he instantly became engaged on a really intense level. I don’t think many people pick that out as one of his best movies.
“From that moment he kind of took me under his wing and ever since then, whenever I go to New York I go round to his house and we will have a cup of tea and chat about things, or I’ll go to the edit and he will show me stuff from the latest film that he has been working on. It is like a boyhood dream.”
Baird’s latest movie is ‘Stan & Ollie’, which tells the story of a tour of the UK and Ireland by comedy legends Laurel and Hardy after their fame had peaked.
The movie – which stars Steve Coogan as Stan and John C. Reilly as Ollie – has been nominated for a host of major awards and Baird, 46, has admitted that Scorsese “mentored” him during the process
In an interview with The I Paper, he said: “He did mentor me on ‘Stan & Ollie’. We only had one day to shoot that because we were in the Pinewood and Star Wars had already taken all the stages. It was unbelievable We planned it like it was a military operation.”

David Chase to explore Tony Soprano’s childhood in prequel

OHMYGOSSIP — David Chase is going to explore Tony Soprano’s childhood in ‘The Many Saints of Newark’ prequel film.
The 73-year-old American screenwriter wrote HBO mafia series ‘The Sopranos’ – which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year – and has now created a story which will explore the events prior to the show in which Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) is the head of an organised crime family.
Chase was “against” creating a spin-off for a “long time”, but became interested in the idea when he explored the 1967 Newark riots which occurred when two Newark Police officers arrested and beat African American taxi driver John Smith and decided the real life event would provide the perfect backdrop for the plot.
Teasing the plot of the highly anticipated project, he told Deadline: “I was interested in Newark and life in Newark at that time. I used to go to down there every Saturday night for dinner with my grandparents. But the thing that interested me most was Tony’s boyhood. I was interested in exploring that.
“I was against [the movie] for a long time and I’m still very worried about it, but I became interested in Newark, where my parents came from, and where the riots took place. I was living in suburban New Jersey at the time that happened, and my girlfriend was working in downtown Newark. I was just interested in the whole Newark riot thing. I started thinking about those events and organised crime, and I just got interested in mixing those two elements.”
‘The Many Saints of Newark’ will be set in the 60s as riots sweep through Newark, and tensions between African American and Italian residents boil over into violence, and Chase confessed that he wants to depict how “polished” the mafia was at that time.
He added: “It is going to depict when it was good. The mafia was very polished at that time, how they dressed and what they did. Those traditions were followed more loosely in the series. These weren’t guys who wore tracksuits, back then.”

Foals announce two albums for 2019

OHMYGOSSIP — Foals will release two albums in 2019.
The British indie band launched a countdown time for a big announcement coming at 3pm UK time on Wednesday (09.01.19), and they have now teased fans with the news that they are set to drop two LPs titled ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost’ Part 1 and Part 2.
Alongside a cinematic teaser clip, they wrote on Instagram: “Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost
Part 1
Part 2
2019 (sic)”
And when a fan asked if this is one album in two parts or two separate records, they replied: “2.”
The new albums, which are yet to receive official release dates, will be the first full-length releases from the ‘My Number’ hitmakers since bassist Walter Gervers quit the band after 12 years in 2017.
Their last studio album was 2015’s ‘What Went Down’.
The 34-year-old musician decided to bow out of the the group in order to “pursue a new life”, and his bandmates – frontman Yannis Philippakis, Jack Bevan, Jimmy Smith and Edwin Congreav – wished him well for the future.
The four of them reassured fans that their fifth album was well underway and is their “best yet” when Walter’s departure was confirmed.
In a lengthy post on their social media accounts, the ‘Cassius’ hitmakers announced: “To all our fans.
“Sadly we have to announce that our mate Water has decided to leave the band to pursue a new life. The parting has been sad but we remain firm friends. He’ll always be our brother, we love him and wish him well in his future endeavours.
“We had 12 amazing years touring together from a small postal van to the Pyramid Stage and beyond. It’s the end of a chapter, but not the end of the book.
“We want to thank him for all his time and energy and passion and we want to thank you for all your support from the early days and into the future.
“We are making new music and working on the fifth LP. It’s gonna be the best yet. Keep those ears alive. (sic)”
Frontman Yannis previously admitted that they needed “violent change” on their new music to avoid “extinction”.
He explained: “What we need to do is go through some sort of violent change and make sure, whatever the next record is, it’s not friends with the last two… We’ve built a wide palette that we can draw from. It would be a shame not to keep pushing that. It’s evolution vs. extinction.”

Karen Gillan to star in assassin flick Gunpowder Milkshake

OHMYGOSSIP — Karen Gillan is set to star in assassin movie ‘Gunpowder Milkshake’.
The 32-year-old actress has joined the new thriller from Studiocanal and The Picture Company, and the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ star is expected to be the lead of an all-female cast which will reportedly begin filming in Berlin, Germany, in the spring.
Although details of the plot have been kept under wraps, the film is described as being in the assassin genre and includes stories spanning over multiple generations.
The action flick will be directed by Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado, the pair responsible for the dark Israeli breakout ‘Big Bad Wolves’ and the duo also penned the script alongside graphic novel writer Ehud Lavski.
Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman of The Picture Company will produce the movie through their overall deal with Studiocanal.
Gillan is set for a busy 2019 as she is due to start filming the sequel to ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ in February and she will be seen in superhero blockbuster ‘Avengers: Endgame’ as reprising her role as Nebula.
The former ‘Doctor Who’ star made her directorial feature debut with ‘The Party’s Just Beginning’ last year and the film, written by and starring herself, centers on her character, Liusaidh, dealing with the stress and heartbreak from losing her best friend to suicide.
Previously speaking about the challenges of having to direct herself in character, Gillan said: “Normally, I’m so used to having a collaborative focus where I can turn to someone for reassurance or bounce ideas or have conversations before trying it out. “It’s ridiculous. I would give myself four or five options and then I would construct the performance and the edit.”

Lana Del Rey release haunting new single

OHMYGOSSIP — Lana Del Rey has released the haunting new single ‘hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have – but i have it’.
The ‘Video Games’ hitmaker has given fans another taste of what to expect from her hotly-anticipated sixth studio LP, ‘Norman F***ing Rockwell’.
The track is out now on all major platforms, and follows last year’s ‘Venice Bitch’ and lead single ‘Mariners Apartment Complex’.
The lyrics reference the late poet Sylvia Plath.
Lana belts out: “Writing in blood on my walls / ‘Cause the ink in my pen don’t work in my notepad … Don’t ask if I’m happy, you know that I’m not / But at best I can say I’m not sad…”
The 33-year-old singer has once again teamed up with producer Jack Antonoff on her new music.
Meanwhile, Lana – whose last record was 2017’s ‘Lust for Life’ – recently revealed she is set to publish a poetry book.
The ‘Summertime Sadness’ hitmaker has been working on the literature for the last year and is looking forward to releasing it soon.
She said: “Happy New Year to everyone. I hope you enjoy the new song I’m putting out on the ninth. It’s called ‘hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have – but i have it. Also as of last week I finished a short book of poetry I’ve been writing over the last 13 months that I’ll be putting out later. (sic)”
The 33-year-old singer previously opened up about her poetry.
She explained: “I have like 13 kind of long poems that I started binding and I thought, ‘Wow, the pages are kind of stacking up here.’ I mean, it’s easy too with haikus because it’s only three lines so you could have like 30 pages of haikus that’s only like 200 words or something. But I thought they’re kind of like stacking up to look like a real book. So I mean what I’d like to do is sort of self-publish but I’m not very good at the distribution side of things.”
‘Norman F***ing Rockwell’ is expected to be released within the next couple of months.

Drew Barrymore slams ‘safe’ red carpet dressers

OHMYGOSSIP — Drew Barrymore has slammed celebrities for “playing it safe” on the red carpet.
The 43-year-old actress thinks stars are too worried about being criticised for their outfits at high-profile events so would rather be conservative than shake up their style.
Speaking on UK TV show ‘This Morning’, she said: “I miss the days of Björk and the swan or Cher and Bob Mackie.
“It’s like, let’s do this! It’s a red carpet – why is everyone playing it so safe?
“I think because we got so into this culture of critiquing people on the red carpet that no one wanted to be the butt of the joke.
“I think people just need to not care and not worry about haters or critiques and just put on a show… because that’s what the red carpet is for.”
When it comes to her own red carpet style, the ‘Whip It!’ actress – who has daughters Olive, six, and four-year-old Frankie with ex-husband Will Kopelman – refuses to “hold back”.
She added: “I have always been playful and artistic and expressive. I have never believed that you have to hold back, or regret or not have fun with your make-up. You have one life, why wouldn’t you play?”
In her career, Drew particularly enjoyed the make-up she sported as insecure copy editor Josie Geller in ‘Never Been Kissed’ because producers thought she’d gone “too far” and looked “too crazy”.
She said: “My favourite movie make-up look? I’m going to go with ‘Never Been Kissed’.
“Because I remember the studio calling me and going, OK, I think this is going too far. I think you look too crazy.
“The point of a girl’s journey is not about the way she looks. In fact, take her all the way, everyone loves a make-over, let’s go all the way with that.”

Sara Cox won’t do Breakfast show as she can’t ‘mop kids tears with fifties’

OHMYGOSSIP — Sara Cox didn’t want to present the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast show because she can’t “mop up [her] kid’s tears with a wad of fifties.”
The 44-year-old broadcaster – who has Lola, 14, with ex-husband Jon Carter and Isaac, 10, and Renee, eight, with spouse Ben Cyzer – used to enjoy covering the morning slot for Chris Evans, but she’s not planning to be on stand-by for new presenter Zoe Ball because the early starts took their toll on her moods and left her being “horrible” to her brood in the afternoons because she was so tired.
Speaking on ‘This Morning’, she said: “I loved standing in for Chris when he was on, I’m not gonna stand in for Zoe [Ball] because I want time with my kids this half term and that’s not happened for a few years now.
“I’m not gonna be standing in, what it is when I used to swan in and cover for Chris Evans it was really easy cos I was on there for like two weeks.
“You were saying before you’ve done standing in for breakfast radio and it is quite tiring and by three or four I was kind of horrible to my kids by that time.
“So you know breakfast is a great gig, it’s an amazing show to do, it’s great money but I can’t mop my kid’s tears with a wad of fifties.”
Sara was heavily tipped to be named as Chris’ successor when he announced he was leaving – with even Zoe expecting her to get the job, but the former model insisted she never expected to be offered the prestigious show.
She said: “It was a really weird time, so I filled in for breakfast and I got on the show in the morning that Chris Evans said he was leaving, I got out and my phone melted on my bed.
“Loads of texts like ‘What’s going on’ and I’m like ‘No, no clue’ and one of the first texts was from Zoe saying ‘You’ve got this’.
“I replied to her and all my family and friends and I said ‘Look the ancient Chinese proverb says, the stand-in never gets the gig’ cos it just doesn’t happen in radio so I never thought I was gonna get breakfast. ”

Howie Mandel blasts award shows for honouring undeserving actors

OHMYGOSSIP — Howie Mandel has blasted award shows for honouring people for “pretending and wearing make-up”.
The ‘America’s Got Talent’ judge has insisted he would “never” want to host the Academy Awards, and went on to suggest while filmmakers are worthy of recognition, actors are not on the same level.
Asked about the job while speaking to Busy Philipps on ‘Busy Tonight’, he said: “Never, never. No desire to. I would never want to do it… That is the most thankless job, I think, in our industry…
“Nobody comes out of there a real winner… I don’t understand any awards for what we do. Really you’re just pretending.
“Your husband [Marc Silverstein] deserves an award. He writes things, he directs things…”
However, Howie – who has enjoyed a career as a stand-up and actor himself – insisted the grandeur surrounding such glitzy ceremonies was too much, and said performers should do more to earn their awards.
He argued: “For somebody to show up in the morning, and somebody drives you usually there, and then they sit down and then they, you don’t even comb your own hair.
“They comb your hair, they put make-up on you, they put a piece of tape and they say stand there and say this… And then we have a night where we say to them, ‘Brilliant!’
“I don’t know that we need to be that celebratory. That’s the biggest celebration on earth and it’s just about people who are pretending and wearing make-up.”
Howie, 63, had shrugged off the possibility of hosting the Oscars after Kevin Hart, 39, stepped down from the role after initially refusing to apologise for controversial past tweets.
Although the ‘Night School’ star has now said sorry for his remarks, he recently admitted it wasn’t likely that he’d be brought back into the fold.
He added: “If you’re a gambling man, that means that you’re a gambler, so you’ve gotta let your money roll. I’m not gonna say anything, and I’m definitely not gonna say it here, but the chances are very slim.”

Kendall Jenner recalls acne devastation

OHMYGOSSIP — Kendall Jenner felt like it was “the end of the world” when she had her first acne breakout.
The 23-year-old model admitted it was “mortifying” when she woke up on her first day of high school and discovered her skin had erupted.
She said: “You feel like it’s the end of the world when that happens.”
The ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ star “really wanted” a boyfriend when she was a teenager but lost all her confidence because of her acne.
She told People magazine: “I literally wouldn’t even look people in the eye when I would speak to them.”
After a few years, Kendall’s skin cleared up but the spots returned when she was 21, which she believes was partly due to stress.
She said: “For me personally, the second time around when it came back, I think it was pretty hormonal.
“You could see it in where I had my breakouts. I also think it had to do with stress. I was having a couple really challenging years of my life.”
The brunette beauty – who has previously spoken of her struggles with anxiety – is finally happy with her skin and is now in a much “better mental place”.
She said: “I’m definitely in a better mental place. It has a lot to do with being clear, but it also has to do with a lot of other things in the way that I’ve changed how my life runs and things that I pick and choose to do. A lot goes into all of that.”
But if she does have a breakout, Kendall tries not to worry too much about it any more.
She said: “It always is frustrating. Always. One zit can really freak you out because you’re like ‘Oh no, are we going backwards again?’ But I try not to think too deeply about it because I know it’s going to be all good. I want everyone to know I’m OK, and you can be OK too.”

Melissa McCarthy wants Amy Adams for president

OHMYGOSSIP — Melissa McCarthy wants Amy Adams to run for president.
The ‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?’ actress thinks the ‘Nocturnal Animals’ star would make the world a better place and she is impressed with the instincts shown by both Amy and Nicole Kidman.
She said: “I think Nicole Kidman is a smart, non-bulls**t puppy. She isn’t going to mince words, isn’t going to try to play a game. She’s got a hell of a picker. She picks things that are really interesting, and she’s not concerned about how they may be seen.
“Amy Adams is the same. I love that she is starting to produce. I would like Amy Adams to run for president. I think the world would be better in general.”
Amy isn’t the only actress Melissa would turn to for guidance as she’d love to have daily meetings with Viola Davis.
She told America’s InStyle magazine: “I’d like Viola Davis to wake me up every morning and be like, ‘Here’s your thought for the day’, and I’d literally write it down.
The 48-year-old actress – who has daughters Vivian, 11, and Georgette, eight, with husband Ben Falcone – had praise for several other famous Hollywood faces too.
She said: “I love that Jennifer Aniston, that little nugget. That’s a person to the soles of her feet. Just solid, good…
“I’ve known Octavia Spencer for 20 years, and she is the same person she has always been. Same with Allison Janney. They didn’t change. They’re not adapting for their jobs or their careers. They are exactly, unapologetically as they were.”
Melissa admitted she misses the anonymity she had before she was famous.
She said: “I do miss when I could just wander around and de-stress. It’s a little different when someone’s watching you do it where you’re like, “‘No, I’m just here to be unseen.’ ”

Josh Brolin celebrates five years of sobriety

OHMYGOSSIP — Josh Brolin is celebrating five years of sobriety.
The 50-year-old actor marked his titanic teetotal achievement by logging on to his Instagram account to share the negative emotions that were triggered by his alcohol abuse with his 1.8 million followers and let his fans know he is still strong in his recovery.
His lengthy post read: “Drunk: when you think you’re having a rip roaring time and the next morning you wake up and your brain has broken into a frenzied beehive and your body is shattered shards of sharp glass desperately searching for what fits where and your spirit is being eaten by worms with great white bloodied teeth and your heart has shriveled into a black prune churning your intestines to the point where dysentery feels attractive and you can’t remember anything you did so you roll out of bed over last night’s urine and you dial your best friend’s phone number because you recall him lifting you over his head, your whole self, before you hit and broke through the drywall and, you think, a large aquarium and the phone on the other end rings and he picks it up, that clambering for a phone, the clumsiness of a hardline, and you say: “What did I do last night?!” and he answers, after a great pause: “…Dude…”. #5years (sic)”
Brolin gave up drinking in 2013 following an arrest for public intoxication in Santa Monica, California.
In the wake of the incident the ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ star checked into rehab and once he got clean made the vow to never touch another drop of booze again.
He said at the time: “It won’t be happening again, I can guarantee it. That’s it, I’m completely done.”
Brolin has admitted the best thing about being sober is being in “control” of his behaviour and having none of the chaos that comes with excessive binge drinking.
In an interview with the New York Times newspaper, he said: “I’ve gotten to a place where all that matters is that I have control over my behavior, and at that time, it was a little more chaotic.”

Jack P. Shepherd moves into hotel

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack P. Shepherd is living in a hotel after moving out of the flat he shared with ‘Coronation Street’ co-star Colson Smith.
The ‘Corrie’ actor – who plays David Platt on the ITV soap – is currently residing in a swanky Manchester hotel after the lease ran out on the apartment he shared with Colson, who portrays Craig Tinker, and their musician pal Freddie Bolt.
An insider told The Sun Online: “Jack and Colson moved into their bachelor pad last year with another mate and have shared some wild times in the place.
“Their lease was up at the end of last year so they decided to move out – but Jack is yet to find anywhere to live.
“He’s been staying at a hotel in central Manchester until he finds somewhere new and his kids have been loving it.”
Jack shared an Instagram video of his kids Nyla and Reuben splashing about in a neon pool at The Midland Hotel earlier this week.
When asked by a follower if they are “enjoying the fact you have nowhere to live”, he replied: “haha yep! (sic)”
Last year, Jack revealed Colson nicknames him “dad” because he does his washing for him.
He said: “I live with Colson – and that’s a challenge. I have to teach him about life and things, and I do his washing.
“He’s like my little project – my nickname is ‘Dad’.”
Jack, Colson and Freddie moved into their plush £300,000 Quayside pad in January last year after he split from his fiancée Lauren Sheppey.

Ashley Graham keeps marriage alive by ‘just having sex’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ashley Graham’s key to keeping her marriage alive is to “just have sex”.
The 31-year-old model tied the knot with Justin Ervin eight years ago and she believes getting intimate is the key to a strong relationship, even when they don’t feel like it.
Speaking in the February issue of US ELLE magazine, Ashley said: “Just have sex. Have sex all the time. Even if you don’t feel like it, just have sex. I have found that if we haven’t had sex, we get snippy, and then if we are having sex, we’re all over each other. For us it’s like, ‘Oh, let’s have sex.’ And then we’re just right back in a great mood.”
The brunette beauty met her beau at church when she was just 21, and the pair made the decision to remain abstinent until they got married in 2010, and Ashley confessed she was “building trust” to decide if Justin was someone she wanted to be with for the “rest of her life”.
She explained: “Something that it did for us was build up our friendship, and it also built up our trust and communication Of course we were sexually attracted to each other; we would make out heavily.
“All those things were there. I wasn’t worried about, ‘What’s sex gonna be like with him?’ It was more, ‘Do I trust him? Is he someone I want to be with for the rest of my life?'”
While the couple are very happy together, they are in no rush to start a family.
Ashley said: “For me, being a wife and being a woman, happiness doesn’t equate to having kids.
“Kids will come when they come. Happiness right now, is building with my husband and building my business.”

Carol Vorderman ‘loved’ Countdown fat comment

OHMYGOSSIP — Carol Vorderman used to get told on a daily basis that she wasn’t “half as fat” as she looked on TV.
The 58-year-old actress chuckled every time an audience member on the game show ‘Countdown’ – which she co-hosted – made such a comment, and has admitted she thought it was “lovely”.
She wrote on Twitter: “Well @ScarlettMoffatt and @EmAtack….every studio day on Countdown I roared laughing when someone said “eee Carol Love, you’re not half as fat as you look on the telly “….I thought that was lovely…I know what they meant…#YouGottaLaugh cos we’re all very lucky xxx (sic)”
Carol’s ‘Countdown’ conundrum comes in response to Emily Atack hitting out at people for saying she “scrubs up well”.
The ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ star tweeted: “If one more person says “you scrub up well!” to me…. IT’S NOT A COMPLIMENT!!!! (sic)”
Scarlett Moffatt – who co-hosts spin-off show ‘Extra Camp’ – wrote: “The best is when people say eeeeh your “actually” very pretty (sic)”, and Carol then replied with her ‘Countdown’ story.
Some Twitter users pointed out that such a comment is in fact a complisult – a phrase which is seen as a compliment but could be taken as an insult.
Emily’s tweet comes after King of the Jungle Harry Redknapp, who beat the former ‘Inbetweeners’ star to the ‘I’m A Celebrity’ crown last year, said she might have a chance with his son Jamie Redknapp because she “looked all right” after “scrubbing up” following her jungle stint.
The day after his triumph, he said: “When I first saw her in the jungle I thought, ‘No chance’.
“But I’ve seen her today, when she’s scrubbed up, and she looks all right. I’m telling ya, she looks very useful. She looks good.”
“But when I saw her in the jungle I thought, ‘No, you ain’t got a prayer.’ ”

Gemma Collins burns extra 1,000 calories a day on Dancing On Ice

OHMYGOSSIP — Dancing On Ice’s Gemma Collins is burning “at least” an extra 1,000 calories every time she rehearses for the show.
The 37-year-old reality TV star is training for two hours, three times a week, for the popular ITV programme, and her partner, pro skater Matt Evers, admits she has come a long way since her initial 15-minute sessions on the ice.
Matt told The Sun Online: “Gemma has never really been exposed to going to the gym, that’s not what her passion is.
“So when we first started out we went from 15 minutes on the ice, before having to sit down and have a break. Each week we would build it up and after five weeks I held her hands and said, ‘Babes you do realise you’ve done two hours straight.’
“Now, she is doing two hours training three times a week, burning at least 1,000 calories a time. Then there’s a full studio day on Sunday and choreography on Monday which is even longer.
“She is really adamant about giving the curvier girls the motivation to get up off that couch for a little bit and just get moving. She wants to be a role model for that.”
As a result of her training, Gemma has slimmed down so much that the ‘Dancing on Ice’ costume department have had to take four inches off the waist of her glitzy costumes.
Matt explained: “The confidence that she has since she has been losing the weight – she feels sexier.
“Last week at the costume fittings the wardrobe team had to take off four inches from her waist from where she was before Christmas. It’s just incredible.”

Nicole Kidman reveals when she knew Keith Urban was the one

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicole Kidman knew she wanted to marry Keith Urban when he surprised her with an “intense” motorbike trip on her 38th birthday.

She said: “It was pretty intense, I believed by that point he was the love of my life. Maybe that’s because I am deeply romantic, or I’m an actress, or I have strong faith as well, but I just believed, ‘Oh, OK, here he is.'”

The couple spent Christmas with a “big crowd” in Nicole’s native Australia and had a great time catching up with the ‘Aquaman’ star’s extended family.
She previously said: “We usually go to Sydney for Christmas. My mother lives there, but as I live in America and my sister lives in Singapore, Momma needs us to go back regularly. It’s a big crowd.”
