Jack Whitehall ready for BRITs chaos

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack Whitehall is looking forward to “embracing the chaos” at the BRIT Awards 2019.
The ‘Bad Education’ star is to return to hosting duties at the annual music award show – which takes place at London’s O2 Arena on February 20 – and he can’t wait for this year as he “knows the game” now.
Asked what he is most looking forward to, he said: “I know what it is now, I know the game. You need to be able to think on your feet and throw a few punches and embrace the chaos, not fight it.”
The 30-year-old comedian planned a “big opening” last year with “as many costume changes” as he could and he has hinted at plans to do the same this year.
He added: “All I wanted to do was survive it and I think I survived it. I wanted to do a big opening. Basically, in my head, I’m the Beyoncé of comedy and I like as many costume changes as I can.”
However, even with a year of hosting duties under his belt, Jack expects a few more awkward moments like last year – when he walked past an artist he had made a dig at whilst on stage during the ceremony.
Speaking about last year’s ceremony on ITV’s The BRITs Are Coming, which looks forward to this year’s event, Jack confessed: “The most awkward moment in the show was just anytime that you slag someone off and then you have to then see them or walk past them backstage and that happened on a few occasions.”

Sam Fender shocked by BRITs win

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Fender thinks it is “absolutely crackers” that he is the BRITs Critics’ Choice winner for 2019.
The ‘That Sound’ hitmaker can’t believe he won the coveted prize and already has an exact place mapped out to put the award – on his mother’s mantelpiece.
Asked how it felt to be given the award – the first BRIT of 2019 – on ITV’s The BRITs Are Coming, he said: “It’s mad. Absolutely crackers. We’ve just non-stop been gigging and recording and it’s mad and great. It’s what I wanted … I’ll put it [the award] on my mum’s mantelpiece in the flat.”
The 22-year-old singer loves how music can “soften the blow” of things that happen in life that are difficult to talk about.
Explaining how he writes a song, he said: “I like creating song, it’s an easier way to talk about things that I don’t want to talk about, so if you put it into music, it kind of, softens the blow.”
One such example of this is his track ‘Deadboys’, which he wrote after losing a friend to suicide.
He explained: “‘Deadboys’ is a song that I wrote when I lost a friend to suicide. It was about that feeling of being completely confused and utterly shocked. I think it’s important as blokes to talk about being down if you feel down, it’s stupid that we don’t.”
And Sam thinks he has one particular person to thank for honing his songwriting craft.
Speaking about his younger years, he said: “I grew up in North Shields, it’s quite rough and ready and working class. When I was a kid, I was the worst football player on the planet and when I was 14, I actually would wait ’til my dad was at work and belt songs around the house … I had a teacher and she worked with me until my writing got good and that’s when I came out of my shell. I absolutely ruined my A-Levels and went and worked in a pub, I say worked, I was the worst barman ever. I got discovered by a manager that walked in and my bar manager actually told us to get my guitar out and play in the corner of the room, because he knew who he was.”

Taraji P. Henson on mental health

OHMYGOSSIP — Taraji P. Henson wants to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.
The ‘Empire’ star set up The Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation, which helps those affected by trauma and depression, in memory of her late father who struggled with mental health issues after coming out of the Vietnam War.
Speaking about her foundation, she said: “It was born out of necessity. You know, traumatic stuff happened to me and my son. You can’t just pray it away. I don’t care how strong you are. It gets to you, and if you don’t deal with it, it manifests itself in ways you don’t even know. The black men stepped up. Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Tracy Morgan, Chance the Rapper all stepped up. I called, they answered. Snoop told me, ‘Baby girl, that’s important. What you’re doing is important.’ Tyrese said, ‘You’re making it cool to seek help.'”
And Taraji wants to use her art and fame to “broaden horizons”.
She told InStyle magazine: “I don’t care if you’re young or old or what colour you are, art is so powerful … You can show things to people you’ve never met and you broaden horizons. I don’t take for granted what I have, and I try to use it in any way I can, positively.”
Meanwhile, the 48-year-old actress previously revealed she wants to “work smarter not harder” in Hollywood.
She said: “Here’s the deal: When you talk about money, don’t you want to make money? I want every walk of life [in my films]. If I could put an alien in, I would. I want their money too. Come on, it’s what the world looks like. That’s what people want to see, representation. That’s all. You can make money doing it. It’s a no-brainer. The older I get, I want to work smarter, not harder. DC, Marvel, you all can call me!”

Saoirse Ronan wouldn’t date a co-star

OHMYGOSSIP — Saoirse Ronan would never date a co-star.
The ‘Mary Queen of Scots’ star doesn’t think she’d ever get into a relationship with someone she has acted alongside as she gets to know her colleagues in a “very different way”.
She said: “I don’t date. I’m not eccentric at all, but I just honestly don’t know what I’d do on a date. And the people you meet through work you get to know in a very different way. You work with them, you’re in a group together. So, suddenly, the whole notion of dating them is, to me, just ewww!”
And the 24-year-old actress admits she is “such an old woman” and isn’t one to rush out to a club on a Friday night.
Speaking to The Times newspaper’s Saturday Review, she added: “I’m such an old woman. Every now and then I’ll go out on a big night, but I’ve never been one of those people who are, like, ‘Yeah! F*** it! It’s Friday night! Let’s do it!'”
Meanwhile, Saoirse previously admitted fame can be “distracting”.
She shared: “I can see how it can be distracting, especially when you do get a bit more recognisable, and maybe you’re sort of in the public eye a little bit more and stuff.
“But if you’re aware of why it is you’re doing this – it should be because you love it – it keeps you quite level-headed.”
Despite the success she’s enjoyed as an actress, Saoirse often goes about her day to day life unnoticed and she has revealed that a large number of people still don’t realise that she’s Irish.
She added: “You know, most people still don’t know that I’m Irish. I have a lot of people coming up to me in Ireland lately, when I’ve been home, and friends of mine who apparently love me say that my voice is very, very loud and it travels across time and space … I was in a supermarket the other day and someone was like, ‘Is it you, is it yourself?’ I was like, ‘Who do you think I am?’ ‘Are you Saoirse? I didn’t know it was you by looking at you, but I heard your voice.’ So it tends to be the voice.”

Mahershala Ali managing other’s fears

OHMYGOSSIP — Mahershala Ali felt he had to “manage other people’s fear” because of his skin colour.
The ‘Moonlight’ star used to be very “conscious” of how others perceived him because of the colour of his skin and admits how people treated him affected his “energy” for the whole day.
Speaking to The Guardian newspaper, he said: “So many times, in my life, just living in New York city for a good bit of time … You’re walking on the street a lot, you’re on public transportation, you’re travelling late at night. And I remember I was always really conscious of how I dressed. Like, I wouldn’t wear clothes that allowed people to identify me with what I would think they would view as the typical black man. I wouldn’t wear tennis shoes. It was a conscious thing, because I found that women would cross the street [to avoid me], day or night. Or turn their ring over on the subway – turn the diamond inward! These were little things I would catch all the time.
“How people would react to a large, fairly muscular, dark-skinned black man – I would be so conscious of it and it would upset me. It would affect my energy for the rest of the day. So in order to protect myself from having to manage other people’s fear, I would do things to preempt that. And so many black people around the world do this. Because there’s an idea that we’re something to be feared, or that we pose a danger.”
Meanwhile, Mahershala previously admitted becoming a father has been “remarkable”.
He said: “It’s been remarkable. I know I really get to get into it tomorrow because awards season is done after tonight, but it’s been remarkable. It’s such a blessing to be a father.”

Kim Kardashian West has her own Barbie

OHMYGOSSIP — Kim Kardashian West has her own Barbie doll.
The ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ star has revealed she is the proud owner of her very own Barbie prototype, which was organised for her by her husband Kanye West after a deal with Mattel fell through.
Captioning old throwback photos of herself, she wrote: “Have the best story about this look. I had a Barbie deal & she was going 2 wear this exact look! Then the deal got cancelled, the Kim K Barbie would no longer B produced. Kanye knew how sad I was, called Mattel & made all my dreams come true by having my prototype made just 4 me! (sic)”
Kim and Kanye are “closer” than ever now they are expecting another child.
An insider said: “Kim and Kanye seem great. They had a really nice trip to Aspen and always enjoy spending time in Miami. They seem very happy and close. When they waited for Chicago to arrive, it was the same – having another baby seems to always bring them closer. They are very excited about having another baby this year.”
Whilst another source added: “One thing you’ve got to know about Kanye and Kim: They’ve got a different chemistry when a baby is on the way. I can’t even explain it, but they are much more into each other when they’re expecting. So they’re both really happy right now – a lot more romantic, a lot more supportive of each other. They were acting like newlyweds last week. They touch each other, kiss each other and say things to each other like, ‘You’re the best thing that ever happened to me.’ It’s really sweet to watch them together. When they’re not expecting, they’re still loving, but nothing like this. Right now, they couldn’t be happier.”

Saoirse Ronan grateful for parents’ protection

OHMYGOSSIP — Saoirse Ronan’s parents “never left her on her own for a second” when she was going to auditions or meetings as a young actress.
The ‘Lady Bird’ star was chaperoned by her mother or father everywhere when she was a young actress and she is grateful to have had their protection as it meant she was never “exposed” to the dark side of Hollywood.
She said: “I was never left on my own for a second. I was meeting a male director once and he wanted me to come on my own and my mother was just, ‘No! No! That is not happening. Never!’ And so I was never exposed to that, even though I was not unaware of it. We were all aware that ‘things’ were going on. But you’d hear the stories and people’s automatic assumption was, ‘Oh she’d do anything to get a job.’ And it’s so interesting to see how our perception of the same story has changed.”
And the 24-year-old actress says that once she turned 18, there was very limited roles out there for her.
Speaking to The Times newspaper’s Saturday Review, she added: “The good roles dry up for women at 18. [There’s a strange time when] girls are not children yet not women, they’re something else. And for some reason people can’t get their heads around that. She was right. There was literally nothing out there apart from the girlfriend, the sister or the daughter.”

Saoirse Ronan’s ‘robot’ voice

OHMYGOSSIP — Saoirse Ronan worried she sounded like a “robot” in ‘Lady Bird’.
The Irish actress is known for her ability to master different accents but while she struggled with the American tones of the titular character in the drama, she found the dialect of her eponymous character in historical drama ‘Mary Queen of Scots’ far easier to master.
She told Britain’s Harper’s Bazaar magazine: “[The accent] is how I get into the character. What can be more difficult than the actual sounds is the cadence and melody.
“Modern American is much flatter than my natural voice. I found that quite a challenge on Lady Bird. Greta [Gerwig, the director] kept having to say, ‘Make it a bit flatter!’ And I’d think I sounded like a robot.
“With the Scottish, I’m basically speaking the same way. The rhythm and music are the same. That made it much easier to keep Mary human, for me.”
The 24-year-old actress has always wanted to play “well-rounded” characters and has never been interested in minor supporting roles to male characters.
She said: “From a purely selfish point of view, I’ve always wanted to play characters who are well-rounded and interesting and smart, or who are intelligently written.
“And because that’s what I’ve always wanted to get out of it, the films end up reflecting that. They’re the only roles I want to play. Even when I was a kid, I knew I didn’t just want to play ‘the sister’, or ‘the girlfriend’, or ‘the secretary’.
“That was always a priority for me, to play someone who -even if they were only in a few scenes – really had something to them.”

Alex Rodriguez’s speeches for Jennifer Lopez

OHMYGOSSIP — Alex Rodriguez gives Jennifer Lopez motivational speeches.
The retired baseball star is always encouraging towards his girlfriend – who has 10-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony – and she’s learned a lot from him.
He said: “I have learned a lot from Alex. He always says, ‘Mistakes don’t define you. It’s what you do after you fall down that matters the most – that’s what defines your character.’
“He will tell you, ‘Sport is life.’ He says that all the time. I’m like, ‘I got it baby.’ ”
Despite his years of sporting success, Jennifer revealed Alex – who has two children, Natasha, 14, and 10-year-old Ella with ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis – has always regretted not going to college because he began his sporting career as a teenager.
Speaking about her character Maya in her new movie ‘Second Act’, who believes those who are “book-smart” have unfair advantages in the world, she told Britain’s Grazia magazine: “I think it’s true – the masses don’t get to go to Harvard.’ It’s the elite that get those breaks – most people are Maya. And not just women – men too.
“Alex watched the film and that’s the element he loved the most. He got drafted when he was 18 and always hated that he didn’t go to college.
“He’s in the private equity world now and everyone he meets, or who works for him, went to Harvard.
“But we both found our way. If you don’t have those kinds of breaks and opportunities from your parents or your background, but you are smart and talented and ambitious, you have to find your own way in.”
The ‘On the Floor’ hitmaker believes she would have led a similar life to her supermarket worker character if she hadn’t found success in showbiz.
She said: “If I hadn’t gone into show business, I would have been doing something similar – living in the Bronx, married with kids, doing a regular job.”

Brian McFadden suffers shoulder injury

OHMYGOSSIP — Brian McFadden has dislocated his shoulder.
The former Westlife singer is due to compete on ‘Dancing on Ice’ for the first time on Sunday (13.01.19) evening, but his performance with professional partner Alex Murphy is in jeopardy after he suffered the agonising injury during rehearsals.
ITV told website DigitalSpy that the 38-year-old star has partially dislocated his shoulder and damaged his rotator cuff so is unable to rehearse.
A decision on whether he can compete or not will be made later in the day.
The news of Brian’s injury came a few days after Alex revealed his confidence had been rocked after he suffered a fall on the ice during training earlier in the week.
She said: “We had a fall, it was pretty bad.
“He was really anxious after that but I told him not to worry and hopefully it’s out of his system.”
However, Alex believes he has nothing to worry about and she can’t wait for him to show off his skills on the ice.
She said: “He has come on drastically from when he first started and could hardly stand on the ice. “He’s also lost weight from all the training, but he doesn’t think so because he still eats burgers.”
Meanwhile, fellow competitor Melody Thornton recently admitted she has had a number of accidents during rehearsals, including smashing her face on the ice.
The former Pussycat Dolls singer said: “The worst for me is there’s a little bitty part of the blade in the back of your skate that if you put your other skate on top of that and then move an inch, you will just fall out of nowhere. It’s like getting shot. It’s crazy.
“I was trying to put one foot behinds the other and I stepped on my blade and went backwards flying but landed on my face. It was so intense. You immediately want to cry. It’s like when you’re a kid and you can’t help it.
“I’ve fallen on my hips and things and the bruising is like ‘wow, OK’.”

James Jordan: Ola prefers me ‘thickset’

OHMYGOSSIP — James Jordan claims ‘Dancing On Ice’ has ruined his sex life.
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star – who is married to fellow dancer Ola Jordan – has shed more than two stone while training for the skating competition, but his spouse isn’t very impressed as she prefers him to be “thickset”.
He said: “I would love to tell you that we’ve been going at it like rabbits since I lost all the weight but the opposite is the truth.
“It’s nice that I can see it again and bound up the stairs, but our love life has taken a beating. Ola actually prefers me more thickset.”
The 40-year-old dancer – who piled on the pounds after quitting ‘Strictly’ in 2013 – admitted Ola has even been splashing out on his favourite foods in a bid to stop him losing weight.
He told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “If there is food in front of me I’m eating it.
“Before Christmas, Ola went out and bought loads of chilli Doritos and chocolates, including a big box of Quality Street.
“I scoffed the lot in a couple of days so she had to go out and buy it all again.”
James and his partner Alexandra Schauman topped the leaderboard on last week’s ‘DOI’, but he admitted he is still “terrified” of being on the ice because he has so little skating experience.
He said: “People need to understand how bad I was when I started preparing for this three months ago. I was ‘cling on to the edge of the ice rink’ bad.
“I was so useless I actually phoned my parents to ask if I had ever been ice skating before. They told me, ‘We took you once when you were a kid but you fell over and hit your head and we couldn’t get you to go again after that’.
“I am still terrified of ice skating to be honest. Every time I build up any speed I feel out of control.
“And when I lift Alex I am paranoid about dropping her because I am convinced that if I do drop her I am going to kill her.”
And the former ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ contestant insisted his dance background hasn’t been the advantage people have claimed.
He said: “It’s completely unfair to say that having me on the show makes it a fix. What people don’t realise is that the way you move your body on ice is completely different to how you move it as a dancer.
“If I positioned my feet the way I dance in the same way on skates I would fall on my face. So I’ve had to re-learn everything.
“Yes, I have improved since I started training but so have all the other contestants. And what I’ve learned is that ice skating is really, really difficult…
“I want to skate faster and be more graceful but just turning on skates is scary and it really hurts when you fall. And my background actually counts against me in some ways.
“There are a huge number of things they have asked me to do that I simply can’t because my body is so beat up from all the years of dancing.”

Melissa McCarthy doesn’t want movie perfection

OHMYGOSSIP — Melissa McCarthy doesn’t like movies that show perfection.
The ‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?’ actress insists films set in immaculate homes are not realistic and they just make viewers feel inadequate.
She said: “Like a breakfast-cereal commercial full of perfect, clean, shiny things. I always noticed that. Even as a kid, I always thought, ‘How’s everything so clean? Where are the dirty clothes? Where’s the junk in the kitchen? Where’s the stuff that makes it seem real?’ It makes people feel inadequate.”
And the 48-year-old actress has never met anyone like the “perfect” women depicted in movies.
She told the Sunday Times Culture magazine: “They’re so pleasant and so nice. They always have their hair and make-up done. I don’t know any of those women. I’ve never met a perfect woman, or a perfect man. I wouldn’t know how to play someone who just says ‘Oh, Tom’ or ‘Oh, Bill’.”
Melissa finds it frustrating to receive scripts that provide long, detailed descriptions of the lead male characters, but his female co-stars are just described as “leggy – a knockout”.
She noted: “You can’t play those. Those are not qualities you can play. It’s hard to play blonde. It doesn’t make a lot of sense.”
‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?’ is a true story in which Melissa plays a struggling biographer who began forging letters by dead celebrities and though her character, Lee Israel, seems “unlikeable”, the actress liked her because of her flaws.
She said: “She chose loneliness. I think her prickly, abrasive ways made people say, ‘She’s so unlikeable.’ But I like her because of her defence mechanism. She kind of pushed people aside so there’s less chance to get hurt herself. She didn’t need you to like her.
“I don’t think she particularly even wanted people to like her — it wasn’t important to her. And today I think that’s what everyone needs, knowing how people feel about them, as opposed to knowing how you feel about yourself. I got the feeling she was like an armadillo, just kind of waiting within her shell and hoping people would go away.”

Slaves teases heaviest album yet

OHMYGOSSIP — Slaves’ new album will heavier than anything they’ve done before.
The punk rock duo – comprised of Isaac Holman and Laurie Vincent – have given fans an update on the state of the material they have ready for their follow-up to 2018’s ‘Acts of Fear and Love’, and revealed they are planning to put out an EP before deciding on the the full “packaged” sound of their next studio album.
They said: “We’ve got some music, we’re just talking about how it’s going to be packaged.
“We have a new single and there are more songs built around it, but there’s one that we know is going to happen. There will most likely be an EP coming. We’re very excited about it.”
The new song started life as a “grime beat” but with the addition of Isaac’s “rapping and shouting”, it transitioned into some much “heavier”
Laure explained to NME: “It’s a song we wrote during the sessions for the last album, but it’s heavier. It was a beat that I wrote on a computer as a grime beat, but we covered it to turn into something live and organic with Isaac rapping and shouting over it.
“It’s different to what we’ve done before but we left it off the album consciously because we wanted it to feel like it had a uniform flow to it and no weird moments that didn’t sit right. It was important for the album to be an album. This is heavy.”
And the song – which is as-yet-untitled – is about the “fear” of having a “small town mentality”.
Slaves – who are from the small town of Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent – said: “It’s about the mundane, masculine man who sits on a barstool in his hometown doing nothing but tell everyone that he knows all the locals.
“He’s that sad character that we all fear being. There’s a small town mentality that it’s so easy to get locked into.
“I’m sure everyone experiences it when they go back home for Christmas.
“There’s a bleak outlook you can get when you don’t go out and experience the world.”

Britney Spears grateful for career

OHMYGOSSIP — Britney Spears is “grateful” for her long career.
The 37-year-old singer has honoured the 20th anniversary of her debut album ‘…Baby One More Time’ and admitted the past two decades have seen her embark on the “journey of a lifetime”.
She shared a photo of the album cover on Instagram and wrote: “It’s definitely been the journey of a lifetime, full of ups and downs, but I’m grateful for every single moment of it all.”
The ‘Slumber Party’ singer went on to thank her loyal fans for their support over the years.
She added: “Getting to know you all over the years has been such an incredible experience, and has made this all worth it. Thank you for your support from 20 years ago, all the way to today. I am blessed [heart emoji] #20yearsofBritney (sic)”
The heartfelt message prompted a reply from Britney’s boyfriend, Sam Asghari.
He commented: “This humbles me! Always blessed. Look where gratitude has gotten you.”
The ‘Toxic’ hitmaker’s musical milestone comes shortly after she revealed she’s going on indefinite hiatus due to her father, Jamie Spears’, ill health.
She has has put her ‘Britney: Domination’ run at the Park MGM resort in Las Vegas on hold until further notice in order to spend time with her dad.
Britney – who has kids Jayden, 12, and Sean Preston, 13, with ex-husband Kevin Federline – explained: “I am dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family. We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me.
“Thank you to all my fans for your continued love and support during this time. I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and I look forward to the time when I can be back on stage performing for all of you.”
Jamie became seriously ill two months ago, when his colon spontaneously ruptured and he was required to undergo surgery.
He subsequently spent the next 28 days in the hospital, and members of the Spears family have thanked the doctors, nurses and staff at the hospital for saving his life.
Jamie is said to have endured a complicated post-operative period, but he is now regaining his strength and is expected to eventually make a full recovery.

Olly Murs was ‘restricted’ on The X Factor

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Murs didn’t feel able to be himself when he presented ‘ The X-Factor’.
The 34-year-old singer has admitted he was “restricted” on the singing reality show and confessed that he feels much more comfortable and “able to be me” while appearing on ‘The Voice’, adding that we live in a society that “encourages” individuality.
In an interview with OK magazine, he said: “When I was doing ‘The X Factor’ as a host I wasn’t able to be me.
“I was restricted. Now I can be me and we are in a society that encourages you to be yourself and not what other people want you to be.”
The ‘Trouble’ hitmaker will join fellow coaches Sir Tom Jones, Jennifer Hudson and Will.i.am on the panel, and the ‘It’s Not Unusual’ legend has insisted that working with the group has kept him feeling youthful.
He added: “They definitely keep me young. Music keeps me young. ”
Black Eyed Peas star Will has appeared on every season of ‘The Voice’ since it began in 2012 and the 43-year-old star doesn’t think the show has anything to worry about with the arrival of BBC’s new show ‘The Greatest Dancer’.
He explained: “If you remember two years ago we were asked about Gary Barlow and his show and who was going to win. We’ve been here before and the cast is smoking.”
Although the former Black Eyed Peas member isn’t concerned with competing, he wished his good friend Cheryl – who is a mentor on the new programme – good luck and assured that there are no hard feelings between the two.
He said: “I wish her the best because she’s a sweetheart and she deserves the best.”
