Brie Larson became a powerful woman on Captain Marvel

OHMYGOSSIP — Brie Larson believes her fitness training for ‘Captain Marvel’ broke boundaries of what it means to be a woman.
The 29-year-old actress endured nine months of intense exercise for her role as Carol Danvers – a former US Air Force fighter pilot who turns into one of the galaxy’s mightiest heroes – in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie and she eventually got to a point where she was able to lift over 225 pounds and hip-thrust over 400 pounds.
Despite her physical transformation, the ‘Room’ actress insisted that the film “is not really going to look very different” because of her new found strength, although she felt it was “meaningful” for a woman to be muscular and able to “own [her] body”.
In an interview with InStyle, she said: “The movie is not really going to look any different with the fact that I can actually lift 225 pounds. It doesn’t matter to anyone else, but it did to me. Breaking that boundary of what it means for a woman to be muscular and strong and own your body and use it as a tool, that felt meaningful.”
The ’21 Jump Street’ actress went on to explain that she accepted the titular role was because of her character’s own sense of humanity and ability to “atone” for her mistakes.
She said: “She didn’t apologise for herself, I felt like that was a really valuable trait because she is incredibly flawed and makes a lot of mistakes … and has to ask to atone for them, and that is super valuable. She’s not ever shrinking herself down.”
Brie added that the opportunity to play the first female superhero to have a stand-alone film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was the perfect way to incorporate activism into her work.
She said: “The movie was the biggest and best opportunity I could have ever asked for; it was, like, my superpower.
“This could be my form of activism: doing a film that can play all over the world and be in more places than I can be physically.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Whoopi Goldberg asked the BBC if she could be the first female Time Lord on ‘Doctor Who’.

Speaking on ‘David Tennant Does a Podcast With…’ – on which she was interviewed by David, who played the Tenth Doctor – Whoopi said: “I wanted to be the first female Doctor … the American version of ‘Doctor Who’ ends up in New York and it’s me.
“The idea of that so made me happy. But they were like, ‘Um no.’ I was like, ‘OK, I’m cool. I understand.’ ”
The ‘Sister Act’ actress – who has also starred in the ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ franchise as Guinan – is a huge fan of the sci-fi genre because she felt like it “predicted the future.”
She said: “I always felt like science-fiction predicted the future. Whether it was climate change, hand computers or being able to move around in different dimensions.”

Speaking in 2017, she said: “I always hope when I come to England the BBC will say, ‘Hey we want you to do something.’ I would love that.

“I like the idea of doing things the way y’all do them, you do some really fun stuff like Black Mirror or, you know, I’m still dying to do Doctor Who.”

The 71-year-old actor – who played the Belgian detective in the Dame Agatha Christie TV adaptation from 1989 to 2013 – would be up for portraying the beloved character in a film, but wouldn’t do another TV show in the role.
Speaking on ‘This Morning’ on Wednesday (06.02.19), he said: “I’d do the movie but I wouldn’t do another television show. But I’d do the movie. I’d love to do that.”
David played Poirot closely to how Agatha wrote him because he felt her readers expected a character who would match what she had imagined, but admitted he considered quitting over a wardrobe issue.
He said: “That was my brief. From the Agatha Christie estate as well because the audience was mainly a readership and they wanted the readership to see what Agatha had created and that’s one of the reasons I did what I did.
“I had my brief and I wanted to do it as she wrote it and I studied and studied and studied.
“I knew what he would wear on certain occasions. And when I wasn’t allowed to do that, because they wanted to do something different, I said ‘Well, no, if I’m going to be Agatha Christie’s Poirot I must be him in totally and not just in part.’ ”
What’s more, ‘The Way We Live Now’ actor was adamant he didn’t want to play Poirot in scripts that were written after the legendary writer’s death
He said: “I’d done every story she’d ever written and there was no need to go on in stories she hadn’t written. And the title of my series was ‘Agatha Christie’s Poirot’.”

She said: “Since coming back to the Square, she’s not as shiny and new as the Mel we once knew. She’s bitter, twisted and damaged – but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t got hope.

They then asked Ms Banks: “@MsBanks94! Sis… we’re looking at YOU! Do you wanna join us on The @BRITs 2019 stage?”, to which she replied: “Omgggg ofcccc!!! Is this even a question @littlemix (sic)”
The ‘Clap’ star then confirmed: “I’m really performing w/ the biggest girl group in the world gonna add a lil hood vibe Make sure you tune into The BRITs 2019 live 20/02 on @ITV and @WeAreSTV. If you’re not in the UK, watch it on YouTube.com/BRITs #GodIsGOOD (sic)”

She said: “It actually really hurts your soul when you go to these things and you don’t win. I know we practise the whole ‘we didn’t win, but congratulations’. When really on the inside we’re thinking ‘Dammit!'”
However, she is rooting for her fellow female stars.
Asked who else she would like do well, she said: “I’m just excited for the women, to be honest. I feel like the women are taking over the BRITs. So many women have been nominated. I love Anne-Marie, I love Jess Glynne. Dua Lipa is just smashing the c**p out of it right now.”

“Playful, ironic, practical and cool, a glamorous facelift of the jelly shoe seemed amusing and made a statement in our Arrivals and Departures collection.”
The two styles will both be available in yellow, smoke and transparent, with one shoe featuring a black heel and crystal buckle, and the other having a flat sole with a crystal wreath.

Matt Evers slams Twitter troll

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Evers has urged a Twitter troll to seek “professional help” after they slammed Gemma Collins.
The 42-year-old skater has jumped to the defence of his ‘Dancing on Ice’ partner after a social media user accused the ‘Only Way is Essex’ star of ruining the show with her “attention seeking” antics.
The viewer posted: “I’ve been an avid fan from series 1 and I honestly can’t stand this series due to her! All the judges are pathetic molly coddling the self centered attention seeker! Ruined a perfectly good show for me!”
Matt replied on his own Twitter account, writing: “Honestly, if our 1 minute and 30 sec performance ruins an entire 2 hour show…. you need professional help. The viewing figures don’t agree with any of the haters.(sic)”
And Matt also defended Gemma against accusations that she “can’t skate”, sharing a clip of her from the weekend’s show and highlighting the fact she successfully executed some inside three turns, a figure skating step that involves both a change of direction and change of edge and is found on the sixth level of Skate UK’s eight-level basic skills programme.
He captioned the clip: “Last time I checked… ‘ice skating’. These are actually called inside three 3 turns.
“Who ever says @missgemcollins ‘can’t skate’… she can.”
But when a critical user pointed out Gemma was “holding on” to her partner and not skating alone, Matt hit back once again.
He wrote: “Please do your research and watch week 1, 3 and 4… she does plenty of skating on her own. Believe me, I know. I choreographed her.”
Responding to another critic, he added: “I am hired to skate with them. WITH THEM. How often do @torvillanddean separate in a routine?
“How much of a ballroom dance are the dancers separated? Have you ever watched actual ice dancing? Google is amazing. Please educate yourself about the show before you hate. Thank you.”

Katie Price considering care facility for son

OHMYGOSSIP — Katie Price is considering putting her oldest son into a residential care facility.
The 40-year-old former glamour model doesn’t feel she gets any “respite” from 16-year-old Harvey – who is partially blind, autistic and suffers from Prader-Willi syndrome – because he’s learned how to avoid going to school during the day and she also needs to consider the needs of her other children, 13, Princess, 11, Jett, five and Bunny, four, because they are “scared” of their half-sibling.
She said: “This year he’s smashed eight iPads. For the first time ever I’m thinking he might have to go residential Monday to Friday.
“I’m really having to think about it but I hate it because he’s my life. The kids can be scared as he’s big so I have to think of them.
“He’s missing out on his education, he knows if he kicks off in the morning the driver won’t take him to school. So he’s sussed that out and he wants to spend all his time with me.
“I haven’t got a carer. I hate it because he’s my life. I’ve never had respite.
“I’m literally on my own and it can be lonely, I don’t know any of the other parents. If anyone can give me advice or help.”
Katie had a difficult 2018 and admitted she turned to cocaine in order to “self medicate” from the stress she was under and though she admits her behaviour “wasn’t good”, she’s proud she sought help.
Speaking on ‘The Victoria Derbyshire Show’, she said: “Last year I found out my mum was terminally ill, my husband was cheating on me. My horse got run over and it literally died in my arms, my dog got run over, then in South Africa I was hijacked at gunpoint, Harvey had a kidnap threat again… I just couldn’t cope.
“I was self medicating on a drug. It was cocaine I’m not proud of it. I went to the doctors. It was the hardest thing ever to say, I’m at breaking point, I need help.
“It was weekly for about a year. I went to the Priory, I was in there for severe trauma and rehabilitation. People don’t talk enough about things. Am I ashamed? It’s not good, but I needed help.”
The ‘Loose Women’ star recently revealed she is planning to adopt a child from Nigeria and admitted one of the reasons she’s keen to add to her brood is to fill the void when her other kids leave home.
She said: “I just want to give a child a home. It’s easy to adopt a child abroad, but it’s not easy to get them in the country.
“In my head, when Junior gets older, he’ll leave home. In my head, it’s like a conveyor belt. I’ve got 11 bedrooms to fill.”

Brie Larson has movie school plan

OHMYGOSSIP — Brie Larson wants to open her own school.
The ‘Captain Marvel’ actress has been a vocal supporter of the Time’s Up movement and, after becoming one of the first actors to have an inclusion rider inserted into her contracts – to maintain diversity in cast and crew – she wants to further her vision for equality in the movie industry by creating more opportunities through training.
She told America’s InStyle magazine: “Inclusion has to be a choice; it’s not happening naturally. You really have to fight for it.
“My next goal is to start a school to train people in various jobs.
“There are so many great jobs. You like the weird alien blasters? You could be the one who makes them.
“We need young people to carry on this tradition in moviemaking, and it would be so great if we had more diversity coming in through that.”
Brie believes that if a studio can buy into her idea, she can help build a more representative movie-making experience.
She added: “I don’t want to be successful surrounded by a bunch of people who look like me. That doesn’t feel like success at all.”
The Oscar-winning star’s upcoming movie, ‘Just Mercy’, had her and co-star Michael B. Jordan’s inclusion riders implemented and it led to a very different set.
She admitted: “I had been acting for 20 years … and it was the first time I had [a majority] of people of colour on my team.”
Despite her success, the ‘Room’ actress admitted she isn’t always confident.
She said: “I don’t think you overcome self-doubt. I think it’s something you listen to.”
And Brie is constantly striving to find “balance” in her life.
She said: “Balance is sort of a ridiculous concept. It’s not like you find balance and you’re done. You’re always trying to find it.”

The ‘Fly Away’ hitmaker has revealed that as he’s gotten older, material items aren’t “important” to him “anymore” and the singer is now more concerned with making a positive difference to the people around him.
Speaking to People magazine, Lenny admitted: “I was thinking yesterday, ‘Man, I just want to sell everything I own.’ There are a lot of things I can get rid of that aren’t important to me anymore, and even if they are, not more important than helping somebody.
“I’m deeply thinking about it.”
The 54-year-old singer spends six months of the year in the Bahamas and he has teamed up with dentist Dr. Jonathan Levine to offer a free annual dental clinic, and he admits giving back to his roots is the “best feeling in the world.
He said: “It’s the best feeling in the world. My mom [the late Jeffersons actress Roxie Roker] always said charity starts at home.”
Lenny was previously married to Lisa Bonet – the mother of his 30-year-old daughter Zoe Kraviz – and though he feels a part of the “family” she now has with her husband Jason Momoa and their two children.
He said: “After Lisa and I separated, we learned to find a new relationship. Then I met Jason [Momoa] when they got together and I love him, he loves my kid and I love their kids and we’re all one big family. It’s beautiful.”
And the ‘Hunger Games’ star – who has also dated Vanessa Paradis, Nicole Kidman and Adriana Lima in the past – is now “ready” to find lasting love again.
He said: “I’m at a place now where I’ve been through so many relationships, and I haven’t been good at it all the time, at all. I’ve had a lot to learn, but I feel like I’m at a place where I’m really ready for that. Things come to you when you’re ready, I believe.”

Whoopi Goldberg defends Liam Neeson amid racism row

OHMYGOSSIP — Whoopi Goldberg has insisted Liam Neeson isn’t racist in light of his recent controversial interview.
The 63-year-old actress has defended her pal after he came under fire for candidly confessing to trying to provoke a fight with a black person after a female friend was raped and while she has “been around a lot of real bigots”, she doesn’t count the ‘Taken’ star as one.
Speaking on ‘The View’ she said: “People walk around sometimes with rage, that’s what happens. Is he a bigot? No.
“I’ve known him a pretty long time, I think I would have recognised, I’ve been around a lot of real bigots. I can say this man is not one.
“You can’t be surprised that somebody whose loved one is attacked is angry and wants to go out and attack.
“What he did go on to say … is that he realized that it was too dark for him, he went and got himself help.”
The ‘Taken’ actor has since clarified his comments, explaining he was expressing the unexpected “primal urge” to lash out that he felt after his pal’s attack.
He previously said: “We were doing a press junket and the topic of our film [‘Cold Pursuit’] is revenge.
“It’s a dark comedy, but its basis is revenge. The lady journalist asked me how I tapped into that.
“I remembered an incident nearly 40 years ago where a dear friend of mine was brutally raped. I was out of the country. When she came back she told me about this and she handled the situation herself with incredible bravery, I have to say that.
“I had never felt this feeling before, which was a primal urge to lash out.
“She said he was a black man. After that, there were some nights I went out deliberately into black areas in the city looking to be set upon so that I could unleash physical violence, and I did it for four or five times until I caught myself on.
“It shocked me, this primal urge I had. It shocked me. It hurt me.”

Fred and Rose West documentary cancelled ‘for legal reasons’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Fred and Rose West: The Real Story with Trevor McDonald’ was cancelled at the last minute for “legal reasons”.
The highly anticipated documentary – which was set to air on ITV at 9pm last night (31.01.19) – was expected to shed new light on the horrific crimes that shocked the nation with the husband and wife pair killing 12 people between 1967 and 1987.
In a statement, a representative for ITV said: “Broadcast has been postponed for legal reasons and the film will be scheduled for a later date.”
The programme was replaced by a repeat of ‘Trevor McDonald’s Death Row’.
‘The Real Story’ was due to see Trevor revisit the couple’s infamous ‘house of horrors’ at 25 Cromwell Street, which has now been torn down.
Trevor spoke to a former West lodger for the film, as well as one of the killers’ family members and even the sister of one of their victims.
The postponement of the show followed the first-ever TV interview from victim Juanita Mott’s sisters, with her sibling Mary-Ann Mitchell calling for Rose to “rot in hell”, while Belinda Mott feels Rose deserves a “very slow electric chair”.
Speaking on ‘This Morning’ yesterday, Mary-Ann said: “I’d like to see her rot in hell to be honest. I hope when her girlfriend is released from prison it rips her heart out.
“She will never get out and even if she does there will be a queue waiting. This is where I feel the death penalty is needed when there is no doubt.”
