Horror Noire shows Hollywood ‘doesn’t understand’ Africa-Americans’ genre love

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror’ producer Tananarive Due believes Hollywood “doesn’t understand the degree to which black people have loved horror”.
The UCLA educator – who teaches in the Department of African American Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles – acted as one of the executive producers on the new documentary which explores the work of black filmmakers and impact of black characters in the genre along with ‘Horror Noire’ author Dr. Robin R. Means Coleman and Fangoria editor-in-chief Phil Nobile Jr.
Due is also interviewed for the doc – which is airing on Shudder – and in it she theorises that Hollywood has missed the cultural significance of the horror genre for the African-American community.
Due said: “Hollywood doesn’t understand the degree to which black people have loved horror and how that love has been passed down to many of us from our parents. I watched these movies with my mother, Patricia, who bought me my Stephen King novel. She just loved horror films.”
Due – who teaches ‘The Sunken Place: Racism, Survival, and Black Horror Aesthetic’ at UCLA – believes that the civil rights struggle is directly connected to the cultural importance of the horror genre for her community.
She added: “My mother was a civil rights activist who experienced [racial harassment and violence] that didn’t end with the movement. And while I’ve never asked her, I believe that, somehow, horror films allowed her, with all of her scars, anger and fear, a way to heal and help us visualise trauma to prepare us for the actual fears of the world.”
Among the interviewees that appear in the documentary are director Jordan Peele and directors and cast members from classics like ‘Tales from the Hood’ and ‘Dawn of the Dead’ and it investigates how horror storylines have been used to as societal commentaries on race issues.
Peele received much critical acclaim for his 2017 film ‘Get Out’ which focused on African American character Chris Washington who is targeted by a racist community in a wealthy neighbourhood.
He is following that movie up by co-writing and producing the new ‘Candyman’ film.
The 1992 original was, like ‘Get Out’, centered around an African/America character – the murderous Candyman played by Tony Todd, who features in ‘Horror Noire’ – and was inspired by author Clive Barker’s short story ‘The Forbidden’.

Linda Davidson initially turned down EastEnders comeback

OHMYGOSSIP — Linda Davidson turned down her ‘EastEnders’ return before she was convinced over lunch.
The 54-year-old actress – who played Mary ‘The Punk’ Smith on the BBC soap between 1985 and 1988 – admitted she wasn’t won over right away with the idea of heading back to Albert Square three decades after her last appearance.
Speaking to RadioTimes.com, she said: “I said no at first because I always do! I had lunch with [executive consultant John Yorke], who’s been a mate for years.
“They told me about Len’s storyline and asked me to be in the congregation when Dr Legg dies and I said yes. Then John said they’d given Mary a few lines and it went from there.”
Linda will be back on-screen on February 19 with former co-star Tom Watt – who played George ‘Lofty’ Holloway – for the funeral of the soap’s late on-screen GP Dr. Legg (Leonard Fenton).
Being on set again after so long was an “overwhelming” experience for Lind, who is now working in digital media.
She explained: “It had been 30 years and was a little overwhelming.
“I walked past No.23 which was where Mary lived. We came in to do a photo shoot first and then just got on with it. But we did have a laugh.”
The former actress is enjoying her new career, which saw her helping with the launch of some of the BBC’s websites in the 1990s.
Now, she handles the technology side of celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s brand.
She said: “My title is digital technology and information, looking after the website and all the technology that sits underneath it, plus asset management, video production systems, food technology, the data – it’s really exciting.”

Corrie’s Paula Lane put ‘love’ for acting first when she left soap

OHMYGOSSIP — Paula Lane had to put her “love” for acting first when she left ‘Coronation Street’.
Fans of the ITV soap were disappointed when the 32-year-old actress decided to end her run as Kylie Platt in 2016 after six years left on the cobbles, but she has explained it felt like the right career move.
Speaking to North Wales Live, she said: “Some people can’t understand it, they think I was mad but there comes a point when actually the love for the job has to come first.”
Her final storyline saw Kylie stabbed by Clayton Hibbs (Callum Harrison) as she defended friend Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell).
Despite the definitive conclusion to her role on the show – and Paula’s stance that it was time to try something knew – she still looks back fondly on her experiences.
She added: “I took her on every journey she could have gone on really. I mean, [Kylie and her boyfriend David Platt] were great weren’t they? Absolutely fabulous.”
After leaving ‘Corrie’, Paula went on to play Lauren in the UK tour of Cyndi Lauper’s musical ‘Kinky Boots’.
Appearing on stage has given the star something to think about when it comes to her career, and she admitted returning to television could be an “easy” path to take.
She said: “It’s so easy for me to say maybe I’ll go back to TV, but this has stretched me so much I just don’t know what the future holds.”
Meanwhile, Paula has previously credited her ‘Corrie’ stint as providing a great stepping stone.
She said last year: “Life is wonderful. Family is the most important thing to me. ‘Corrie’ was a rollercoaster and it’s given me the building blocks to create my career.
“My last role as Rachel in #BeMoreMartyn was equally as special – a true life lesson in believing you can achieve anything if you work hard enough. I find it fascinating that both my roles post-Corrie ring out the message, ‘Just be who you want to be’.”

Kerry Katona flogged parrot to afford teen tampons

OHMYGOSSIP — Kerry Katona was forced to sell her pet parrot when she was a teenager because she “couldn’t afford” tampons.
The 38-year-old star experienced period poverty when she was growing up and the former Atomic Kitten singer has revealed that was left with no choice but to flog her beloved feathered friend Alfie for £50 so she could purchase some menstrual protection.
Telling her story in her New! magazine column, Kerry shared: “I’ve got a tale of my own from a time I was dirt poor. When I was a teenager, I started my period, but couldn’t afford tampons. At the time I had an African parrot called Alfie and I sold him for £50 to Slippery Sid, who lived round the corner. I got my Tampax, but never did hear what became of poor old Alf!”
The ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here’ winner – who has children Molly, 17, and Lilly-Sue, 16, with first husband Brian McFadden, as well as Heidi, 11, and Max, 10, with second spouse Mark Croft, and Dylan-Jorge, four, with third husband George Kay – lived in a foster home for some of her teenage years and was only allowed supervised visits with her mother Sue but the pair had a very open mother and daughter relationship.
Kerry has previously revealed that her oldest daughter Molly is a prude and doesn’t like talking about periods or sex, and when she bought Molly condoms as a joke for her 16th birthday the teenager did not see the funny side.
She previously said: “Molly is the biggest prude. I’m not allowed to talk about boys or periods or anything like that. For her 16th birthday, I bought her a pack of condoms as a joke – she went mad, haha!
“We clash like anything, us two. She’s the only one who pushes my buttons, but equally, when she’s back at home, she won’t leave my side. No matter how old she is, she’ll always be my baby.”

Bill Nighy had brush with death

OHMYGOSSIP — Bill Nighy claims a man once “saved his life” when he was almost run over by a lorry.
The 69-year-old actor almost stepped out into the road in front of the path of the large moving vehicle and only the actions of a quick-thinking stranger stopped him from being fatally injured.
Asked the kindest thing a stranger has ever done, he said: “This is not the kindest, but a man once saved my life. I was about to walk in front of a lorry and he pushed me aside.
“I didn’t die and I said to him, ‘I think you just saved my life’, and he just went off. It was a long time ago.”
The ‘Bookshop’ actor turns 70 later this year but isn’t scared about getting older as he is still convinced he is going to “live forever.
Questioned whether turning 70 is scary, he told Collider: “Not really. I still think I’m probably going to live forever. I mean no one ever came back and complained. So long as it doesn’t take too long and it’s not too painful. I think greater men and women than I have had to go through it. Some of the best people are dead and I don’t have plans to die any time soon.”
‘The Kindness of Strangers’ star used to rely on the costume department on his jobs to keep him in clothes in the early days of his career because he was a “mess” with too little money to buy new clothes for himself.
However, he once ran into trouble and had to be bailed out by fellow actor Paul Jesson when a theatre refused to let him go home in an outfit.
He recalled: “I was once without clothes because I was young and I was a mess and I never had any money because I was an actor.
“I used to go on jobs and on a couple of occasions people used to bring in old clothes for me to wear, none of which I would be seen dead in, but you had to pretend you were grateful and bury it somewhere and go back to wearing the same t-shirt and pair of jeans you wore in the first place which you would wash every day. I had one pair of socks.
“I used to rely on the costumes from whatever job I was doing as they’d let you have them for half price and take it off your fee.
“I remember standing in the theatre and the designer was saying we need the costume back and I had nothing else to wear and they put men on the door and it was a tiny theatre so I couldn’t get out.
“There was an actor standing next to me, Paul Jesson, and he said, ‘How much is it?’ She said, ’35 pounds’. He got his chequebook out and said to repay him the money when I had it. It was a pretty kind thing and it meant I could walk home not naked.”

George Clooney defends Duchess of Sussex

OHMYGOSSIP — George Clooney has spoken out to defend the Duchess of Sussex.
The 57-year-old actor – who was among the guests when the former actress, who was then known as Meghan Markle, married Prince Harry last May – has warned history could “repeat itself” if the ex-‘Suits’ star continues to be “pursued and vilified” in the same way the prince’s late mother, Princess Diana, was until her death in a Paris car crash in 1997.
Speaking during a Hulu panel, he said: “I do want to say, I just saw this piece.
“They’re just chasing Meghan Markle everywhere, she’s been pursued and vilified.
“She’s a woman who is seven months pregnant and she is being pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was, and it’s history repeating itself. And we’ve seen how that ends.”
And George – who has 18-month-old twins Ella and Alexander with wife Amal – also claimed it was “irresponsible” when Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, made public a letter the duchess had sent to him last summer.
He said: “I can’t tell you how frustrating that is, just seeing them broadcast a letter from a daughter to a father, she’s getting a raw deal there and I think it’s irresponsible and I’m surprised by that.”
The ‘Money Monster’ star laughed off suggestions he could be a godfather to Meghan and Harry’s baby.
He quipped: “I’m now a father of twins. I’ve got enough s**t. Literally, literally s**t.”
George previously praised 37-year-old Meghan and Harry’s wedding as being “good news” for the world.
He said: “They are just so happy. They are happy and in love and we need good news in the world.”

Madonna’s neighbours want her to pay legal bill

OHMYGOSSIP — Madonna’s neighbours want her to pay their $140,000 legal fees.
The ‘Music’ hitmaker previously sued the board of her Manhattan apartment building after they insisted her kids and staff couldn’t live in her $7.3 million abode unless she was also “in residence” but the case was dismissed in 2017, prompting her to launch an appeal.
And now fellow residents of Harperley Hall have taken action against her in a bid to claw back some of the money they’ve spent fighting her “endless litigation”.
In a Manhattan Supreme Court filing obtained by the New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column, they wrote: “Plaintiff is a revered performing artist, and her reputation and success are no secret.
“But her unique ability to fund endless litigation, however meritless, prejudices the building’s innocent shareholders who are funding this litigation while also complying with the use provision that plaintiff seeks to invalidate for personal desires.”
They are seeking to be compensated for their legal bills as the 60-year-old star has “seemingly endless means to pursue litigation, however tenuous her claims may be”.
Madonna – who has children Lourdes, 22, Rocco, 18, Mercy and David, both 13, and six-year-old twins Esther and Stella – had previously argued the owners of the building knew her status and lifestyle and hadn’t objected to her letting others stay when she moved in to the building over a decade ago.
She said in court papers: “At that time, I was, and still am, a world-known performing artist.
“At that time, One West knew or should have known that I travelled extensively and owned other residences.’
“[The building] is a place I call home. It is there that I have my cherished personal effects and property such as artwork, paintings, sculpture, special furniture and the like…
“Certainly such a requirement is ridiculous and impossible for almost any family to comply with, and certainly not someone with plaintiff’s itinerant schedule.”
However, a judge later warned the ‘4 Minutes’ singer’s status should award her special treatment.
He told her lawyer: “Let’s say your client were a traveling salesperson or away in college or serving a brief period in jail, wouldn’t your client be as protected then as she is now going on tour and spending an inordinate amount of time in hotels?
“It’s the same principle. There’s a landlord-tenant relationship between your client and the cooperative corporation and they could bring a Housing Court action to evict.”

Strictly bosses don’t tell Claudia Winkleman about contestants in advance

OHMYGOSSIP — Claudia Winkleman is banned from finding out the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestants ahead of time.
The TV presenter – who hosts the BBC ballroom competition with co-star Tess Daly – admitted she has been too loose lipped in the past when it comes to the lineup, and it means she doesn’t find out until the media does.
Appearing on ITV’s ‘This Morning’, she told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: “They now tell me after they tell the press.
“One year, it was very secret: lock the door, phones off, eyes down, here’s who’s doing it. And I went, ‘Got ya, don’t tell anyone.’
“Got in the lift at the BBC, went down and somebody went, ‘Oh yeah, you do the ‘Strictly’ show. Do you know who’s doing it?’ Said the whole list of names.”
Although Claudia might not know who is lined up for this year’s series yet, it’s been reported that Alan Carr has been approached to sign up to complete.
The former ‘Chatty Man’ star – who appeared on the programme last year to read out the terms and conditions – has been a real “hit” with bosses.
A source previously said: “Alan has met with the bosses and they all hit it off straight away.
“He’s a perfect celebrity for ‘Strictly’ because he’s popular, funny and throws himself into everything – but has never had a day’s dance training in his life. What’s certain is he won’t hold back.”
Meanwhile, Tess has revealed that a number of celebrities have “already” been confirmed for next year.
She said: “People have been approached. I’ve heard there’s a few who have already confirmed.”

Doctor Who fan told Jodie Whittaker they wanted Ben Whishaw

OHMYGOSSIP — Jodie Whittaker met a ‘Doctor Who’ fan who awkwardly told her she wanted Ben Whishaw in the TARDIS.
The 36-year-old actress – whose first series as the Time Lord aired last year – revealed how she was in a cafe in Wales before the big reveal when a 17-year-old girl approached her.
Speaking on ‘David Tennant Does A Podcast With…’, she said: “I could see her really psyching herself up. And she just went, ‘Are you…?’ and I just went, ‘Yeah…’
“And I said, ‘Can I talk to you to one side because I’m trying to be a bit sneaky and a bit hide-y?’ And she went, ‘Yeah yeah yeah’. So I went and ordered, and I came back and went, ‘Are you a Whovian?’
“And she went, ‘Yeah… I really wanted Ben Whishaw’. So I went, ‘You still might get him, the possibilities are endless, you could get anyone you wanted!’. I laughed my head off.”
Rather than the ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ actor taking over from previous star Peter Capaldi, Jodie became the first woman to take on the iconic part.
The ‘Broadchurch’ actress admitted she found the continuity of the show overwhelming until new showrunner Chris Chibnall gave her a “bible” of sorts to guide her through.
She added: “For me, it was reading the stuff. I wanted to read it. I wanted to do my homework. And Chibs printed me basically an encyclopedia of kind of the facts.
“It’s like a massive Wikipedia. It’s like a dissertation. It’s like, ‘This contradicts this, this is a throughline, this could be this but really it’s open’.”
As well as the intimidating amount of information she was faced with, Jodie also had to grapple with the enormity of the role and fanbase.
She explained: “If I’d have been crap, which I have been in some jobs – there are jobs I’ve done where I’ve gone, ‘I smashed that’, and there are jobs I’m like, ‘oh my god I was awful, I was miscast, I was terrible, I pitched it completely wrong’. Because that’s the nature of the thing.
“But this job, had I pitched it wrong – I don’t necessarily think I’ve got it right, but I know there’s obviously not been such a huge backlash since it came out – but I didn’t really realise until then that that I could’ve absolutely set us all bloody back here!”

Bill Nighy became a Pokemon expert for film role

OHMYGOSSIP — Bill Nighy bought every Pokemon book in existence to research his role for ‘Pokemon: Detective Pikachu’.
The 69-year-old actor did a lot of reading about the pocket monsters video game and trading card phenomenon after landing a part in the upcoming live action movie in which he stars with Ryan Reynolds, Justice Smith and Suki Waterhouse.
Nighy was aware of the Nintendo games when he was approached about the project but he took it upon himself to buy up the various monster guides and books, including the Pokedex encyclopedia which gives the information and stats for every creature in the Pokemon universe.
In an interview with Collider, he said: “You could have written what I know about Pokemon on the end of a pin. I knew about the cards and I knew it has become an app, but I didn’t know it’s now the second biggest company in the world after Apple.
“I didn’t know after they released the trailer recently on Twitter, I think – and I don’t have any social media – 280 million people watched it. You just realise this is a very serious outfit and now I kind of love the whole thing. I have come to know quite a lot about Pokemon because I immediately bought every Pokemon book there is and the masterwork is the Pokedex, which gives you everything you need to know.”
The ‘Love Actually’ star is pleased that he did read up on the Pokemon universe – which kicked off in 1996 with the release of ‘Pokemon Red’ and ‘Pokemon Green’ on handheld console the Nintendo Game Boy – and he now considers himself to be not only a fan but a bit of an expert.
He said: “There is an enormous amount to know because the level of detail and depth they’ve gone into about every Pokemon, about the Pokemon trainer and the geography, which island they come from and which of the seven superpowers they have. They all have three at least and it’s quite tremendous. I met the man who drew them all – there were 820 altogether and I think it’s gloriously daft and wonderful.”

Anna Paquin: The power balance has shifted in Hollywood

OHMYGOSSIP — Anna Paquin says the “power balance has changed” in the film industry in favour of women.
The 35-year-old actress is very pleased that women’s voices are now being heard and are prominent in the film industry, and it’s been a huge step forward to see lots of women in “executive roles” who can now green light female-led projects.
Speaking to The Guardian newspaper, Paquin said: “The power balance has changed. There are more women in executive and behind-the-scenes roles who have just had enough of being told what we can and can’t do. And women like myself going, ‘OK, I’ve been doing this for 27 years; I’m not going to sit around and wait for those roles to show up. I’m going to go out there, find it, create it and make it happen for myself.'”
Pacquin insists there is still much more to be done for gender equality in Hollywood and she still feels that actresses have to work harder than their male counterparts to prove their worth and prove they’re not going to be difficult on set.
She added: “One has to work extra-hard as a woman in a very male-dominated industry. As an actress walking on to a film set, you’re guilty until proven innocent. They assume you’re going to be a pain in the ass, high-maintenance and difficult, and you usually spend the first couple of weeks having to work hard to prove that you’re not going to be a problem because you’re a woman. And I think we’re all just collectively done with that. When I see younger girls on set, or kids, that I once looked at thinking, ‘Please, dear God, get out of the film industry.’ I now think, ‘Actually, we might be able to make this a safe environment for young people in positions of no power.’ ”
The ‘True Blood’ star won her first Oscar at 11 years old for Best Supporting Actress in ‘The Piano’ at the 1993 Academy Awards, and Pacquin admits that she was in a fortunate position in her career from that moment onwards, something she is very grateful for.
The actress – who has five-year-old twins, Charlie and Poppy, with her husband Stephen Moyer – said: “I entered this industry in a very backwards sort of way. I did one job, won an Oscar, and then people said: ‘Ooh, you have a career now.’ I do have the luxury of being a little more choosy because of the circumstances of my career.”

Caroline Flack dating personal trainor

OHMYGOSSIP — Caroline Flack is dating her personal trainor.
The ‘Love Island’ host is said to be “head over heels” with fitness instructor Bradley Simmonds as the pair have spent an increasing amount of time in one other’s company, and he’s already believed to have got the seal of approval of the 39-year-old beauty’s girlfriends.
An insider told The Sun Online: “Caroline and Bradley tried to keep things professional but they’ve fallen head over heels and they’re now dating.
“After spending so much time together, they just fell for each other, although it’s still early days.
“They make each other laugh, and he’s a really nice guy.
“All her mates approve. Everyone’s over the moon for Caroline – she’s the happiest she’s been in a long time!”
The pair were spotted walking hand-in-hand on a night out together in London over the weekend.
The 24-year-old hunk has also regularly featured in Caroline’s Instagram Stories.
Last month, the former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star admitted she spent most of 2018 “dying inside” after her tough break-up from Andrew Brady.
The television personality – who previously dated Harry Styles – was on cloud nine after getting engaged to reality star Andrew after just three months of dating, before the pair split up multiple times and eventually called it quits for good in December.
Confirming their on-off romance was officially over, Caroline said: “I’m on my own now. So I’m sorting myself out, I’m doing what I want to do. I’m putting my head into this, into work and focusing on acting.”
While she admitted she will always care for Andrew, Caroline insisted she was not going to get back together with him and said they both need time for themselves.
She said at the time: “Yeah, you know I like him. But I think we’re both doing what we need to do at the minute. We’re both looking after our own heads and doing our own thing. That’s really important.”

Halle Berry: This is going to be my defining year

OHMYGOSSIP — Halle Berry feels like 2019 will be her “defining year”.
The 52-year-old actress is excuetive producing a TV series adaptation of her 1992 rom-com ‘Boomerang’ for BET, and she is also directing and starring in her first movie for the big screen, ‘Bruised’, a mixed martialist drama.
Despite more than two decades in the movie business, the former Bond girl says she feels like now is her moment to “step into another light”.
Speaking to ‘Entertainment Tonight’, she said: “I’m directing my first film this year. So when I said it was beast mode last time I saw you, I meant that.
“This is, I think, going to be a really defining time in my life for me to step into another light, into another area that I’m completely passionate about and I’m so ready for.”
Halle also hinted that her character Angela Lewis may make an appearance in the TV series.
She said: “I can’t speak for anybody else, but there may be a possibility for Angela to show up.”
Halle teased that Angela would still be the same old “girl next door” if she returns.
She said: “I don’t think Angela will have changed too much.
“I mean, she will have changed, she will have grown, she will be smarter, more confident as she aged, but she’ll be still Angela.
“She’ll still be the girl next door.”
And praising the new cast, she added: “I say go get it! This is their generation and they’re speaking to their generation and they’re all brand new and sparkly and mad talented and excited.”
Halle starred opposite Eddie Murphy in the romantic comedy and she has teamed up with ‘Master of None’ writer-and-actress Lena Waithe to executive produce the TV version.
Speaking about the project, Halle said previously: “I’m thrilled to team up with Lena on this project as she is without a doubt a leading voice of her generation and a trail blazer in her own right.
“I’m truly excited to be a part of bringing this iconic and beloved film to the small screen.”
‘Boomerang’ starred Eddie as hot shot advertising executive and womaniser Marcus Graham who gets a taste of his own medicine when he meets his new boss Jacqueline Broyer – played by ‘The Perfect Match’ actress Robin Givens – which forces him to reassess his chauvinistic behaviour and outlook on life.
Halle portrayed his colleague and love interest.
The new series – written by Lena and Ben Cory Jones – will focus on the lives of Jacqueline’s son and married couple Marcus and Angela’s daughter as they seek to step out of their parents’ shadows.

The 32-year-old grime MC already has a daughter with his partner and the couple are currently expecting another baby.
Narstie plans to “get the snip” and stop his sperm from swimming free after his tot is born because “two [kids] is enough”.
Opening up about his expanding family, he said: “Can’t wait. And that’s when I’m going to get the snip. That’s my lot. Two is enough.”
The musician – who is set to appear in the second series of ‘Gogglebox: Celebrity Special for Stand Up To Cancer’ – is heading back to Channel 4 for a new series of his late-night entertainment series, ‘The Big Narstie Show’, alongside Mo Gilligan, who is also known as Mo the Comedian.
Although the first run was well received, the ‘When The Bassline Dops’ hitmaker has admitted that he found it hard to adjust to Channel 4’s television rules when he first started shooting the programme.
Speaking to Radio Times magazine, Narstie added: “First and foremost I’m a musician. So I’ve always been in front of a camera, doing music videos and performing. But TV is a whole different angle. It’s so much red tape, and its got it’s own order to it.
“My first problem about doing ‘The Big Narstie Show’ was just adjusting to TV rules. At first, it started to p**s me off, but after I got the adjustments and the rules, I started to enjoy it. I’m fortunate, though. Channel 4 know I’m messed up. But they’ve got a soft spot for me.”

Pearl Jam announced as Record Store Day 2019 ambassadors

OHMYGOSSIP — Pearl Jam have been announced as the Record Store Day 2019 ambassadors.
The ‘Even Flow’ musicians – who comprise of Eddie Vedder, Mike McCready, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament and Matt Cameron – are “honoured” to have been chosen to be the ambassadors for the annual event, which takes place on April 13 2019, and follow in the footsteps of last year’s representatives, hip hop duo Run the Jewels.
In a statement, McCready: “Independent record stores are hugely important to me, and have been ever since I was 12 years old. Before I even really knew what they were – there was a certain feeling of ‘this is a dream come true’, and it’s a wonderland and there’s so much to learn in here … and it’s still that way.
“Support every independent record store that you can. They’re really a good part of society. Know if you love music, this is the place to find it. And it helps people who work here and that’s important, too.
“And it kind of takes an effort, you have to look for something that you want; you have to talk to people. I had to talk to people to figure out which Aerosmith record to get first or anything back in the day,” he continued. “It’s a place to learn. It’s a place to have fun. And it’s a place to discover new music. Come out on Record Store Day, but also make it Record Store Year.”
Record Store Day is an annual event in which over 200 independent record shops all across the UK come together to celebrate their unique culture.
