Best Director winner Alfonso Cuaron admits winning doesn’t ‘get old’

OHMYGOSSIP — Alfonso Cuaron was named Best Director at the Academy Awards on Sunday (24.02.19).
The 57-year-old filmmaker scooped the honour – which he previously won for ‘Gravity’ in 2014 – for his work on ‘Roma’, triumphing ahead of Spike Lee (‘BlacKkKlansman’, Yorgos Lanthimos (‘The Favourite’), Pawel Pawlikoswki (‘Cold War’) and Adam McKay (‘Vice’), marking the movie’s third win of the evening.
Taking to the stage after previously winning for Best Cinematography and Best Foreign Language Film, the director joked it didn’t “get old” to be picking up an award at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre.
He then said: “I want to thank the Academy for recognizing a film centered around an indigenous woman, one of the 70 million domestic workers around the world.
“A character that has historically been relegated in the backgrounds in cinema.
“As artists, our job is to look where others don’t. This responsibility becomes much more important in times when we are being encouraged to look away. I want to thank Libo, my family, thank you, Mexico.”
The filmmaker went on to thank the stars of the movie, Yalitza Aparicio and Marina de Tavira, saying “they are the film”.
While Alfonso’s win marked the fifth time in six years a Mexican director has taken the award, it was the first time a Mexican movie has scooped Best Foreign Language Film.

Miley Cyrus proud of Mark Ronson

OHMYGOSSIP — Miley Cyrus was proud of Mark Ronson for winning an Oscar.
The 26-year-old singer heaped praise on her ‘Nothing Breaks Like a Heart’ collaborator – who scooped Best Song for ‘Shallow’ along with Lady Gaga, Anthony Rossomando, and Andrew Wyatt – for his success on Sunday (24.02.19) but despite the prestige of the accolade, she doesn’t see it as being any more special than any of his other successes.
Speaking to E! News at the Vanity Fair after party, she said: “I love seeing friends win whether on a scale like this or just a personal achievement.
“I don’t really gauge things think by what’s like the most massive moment. He has done so many different things, even with ‘Uptown Funk’ or so many songs that have been so massive, so this is just another thing that he has done perfectly and beautifully.”
However, Miley – who is married to Liam Hemsworth – admitted she didn’t actually get to see Mark get up on stage at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre.
She said: “Honestly, I’m not the right person to ask. I take about seven hours to get ready.”
And the ‘Wrecking Ball’ hitmaker then confessed she wasn’t actually getting ready for the party – she was too busy playing with her dogs to tune into the telecast.
She said: “I like to play with my dogs in the meantime. So, I had no TV and I was on the floor with my dogs trying to pull myself together so I am not someone great to ask.”
Although Gaga gave a large part of the acceptance speech for Best Song, Mark briefly stepped up to the mic to praise the singer-and-actress.
He said: “Only because you can’t thank yourself, when you’re in a room with her you don’t have to do too much, she writes, she sings the songs, Lady Gaga, we salute you.”

Olivia Colman will sleep with Oscar

OHMYGOSSIP — Olivia Colman plans to sleep with her Oscar.
The 45-year-old actress – who has three children with husband Ed Sinclair – was stunned to win the Best Actress Academy Award for her role in ‘The Favourite’ at Sunday’s (24.02.19) ceremony and is planning to keep the statuette as close to her as possible.
Asked where she will be putting the award, she quipped: “In bed with me, between me and my husband. He doesn’t know yet but he won’t mind.”
Olivia won praise for her emotional speech, in which she admitted her win was both “hilarious” and “stressful” and she admitted she hadn’t planned any of it – and was amazed at winners who could stay “composed” and give their prepared messages of thanks.
Asked how much of her speech was prepared, she told reporters backstage at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre: “None of it… It’s not an every day occurrence, I don’t know how everyone is composed and remembers everything, it’s a very weird situation.”
And the British star is still in shock about her win.
She said: “I’ve no idea. I could not tell you what I’m feeling. Next year I’ll be able to put it into words but I don’t know what to do with myself at the moment.”
Olivia won the award for her portrayal of Queen Anne and joked the monarch would have some advice for her on how to celebrate.
She said: “[Queen Anne would say] ‘Have some cake. Eat too much and be sick.’ If you’ve seen the film it makes sense, that wasn’t just a weird thing to say.”
When she picked up her award, Olivia suggested she was expecting ‘The Wife’ star Glenn Close to have won.
She said in her speech: “To be in this category with so many extraordinary women…
“Glenn Close, you’ve been my idol for a long time and this is not how I wanted it to be. I love you all.”

Kate Mara is pregnant

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Mara is pregnant.
The 35-year-old actress and her husband Jamie Bell attended Sir Elton John’s annual AIDS Foundation Oscars Party in West Hollywood, California, on Sunday (24.02.19) and the ‘Fantastic Four’ actress showed off her growing bump in a short long-sleeved white and silver dress as she posed for pictures at the event.
Kate’s visible pregnancy comes a month after it was first reported she had been confiding her happy news in friends at the Golden Globe awards, to which she wore a billowing dress with a cut-out centre that masked her changing shape.
According to a source at the time, the ‘Pose’ actress was overheard telling Emily Blunt the news, and added that she and 32-year-old Jamie “are thrilled”.
The insider added: “However she was nervous that people would find out before she made the announcement official as she is already showing.”
Neither Kate or Jamie – who already has a five-year-old son from his previous marriage to Evan Rachel Wood – have yet made any public comment on the news.
Meanwhile, Kate recently said she has become very “protective” of the “incredible” bond she has shared with the ‘Man on a Ledge’ star since getting married.
She said: “I love knowing that I have a partner for life. I feel very proud to call Jamie my husband and to have made that commitment to him … now that Jamie is legally a part of my family, it’s such an incredible thing. I’m very protective of our marriage.”
And the ‘Morgan’ star revealed she and her 32-year-old spouse keep their relationship strong by sticking to a rule which means they’ll never go more than two weeks without spending time together.
She added: “All the travelling we both have to do for work can make it hard, but we have a rule that we will never go longer than two weeks without seeing each other. Even if we have to spend all day travelling to have just 24 hours together, it’s worth it in order to have a strong relationship.”

Spike Lee slams Green Book Oscar win

OHMYGOSSIP — Spike Lee thinks ‘Green Book’ winning the Best Picture Oscar was a “bad call”.
The 61-year-old filmmaker was seen trying to storm out of Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre on Sunday (24.02.19) when it was revealed the musical comedy-drama – which is about the true story of pianist Dr. Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) and his driver Tony ‘Lip’ Vallelonga (Viggo Mortensen) on a concert tour in the Deep South – had taken the evening’s most coveted award and he admitted he was unhappy that his film ‘BlacKkKlansman’ lost out at the honour.
Referring to 1989 Best Picture winner ‘Driving Miss Daisy’, Spike – whose ‘Do The Right Thing’ missed out on a nomination that year – held a glass of champagne aloft backstage and told reporters: “This is my sixth glass and you know why. I’m snake-bit. Every time someone is driving somebody I lose. But in ’89 I didn’t get nominated, so.
“I thought I was courtside at the Garden and the ref made a bad call.”
However, Spike – who took home the Best Adapted Screenplay honour for the movie – praised the Academy’s new leadership as he feels they helped him secure his first ever nominations this year.
He said: “Without April Reign and the former president of the Academy I wouldn’t be here tonight. They opened up The Academy. Three black women won Oscars. Like my brother Jay-Z says: Facts.
“Samuel L. Jackson and I went to the same college. I have known Sam from way, way back. To have him open up the envelope and say my name it was a great thing. Did I jump up on him? That was a genuine reaction.”
When he accepted his award, Spike gave a stirring speech about racism in America, slavery, and urged people to vote in the upcoming presidential election, and apologised that he didn’t get to give the thank yous he had saved for a hopeful second win.
He said: “I had two speeches. One with the list of people I was going to thank and the one that I gave. I said to myself, ‘Self. Your black ass may not be here up here again.’ So I apologise for the people I did not get the chance to thank.
“I am one of the blessed people in the world that gets to do a job I love.”

Faye Tozer was ‘too selfish’ for kids

OHMYGOSSIP — Faye Tozer thought she was “far too selfish” to have children before having her son Benjamin.
The 43-year-old singer admitted that before she fell pregnant with her and husband Michael Smith’s son, who is now nine years old, she was convinced she would never have kids and didn’t feel a family was “ever going to be [part] of her life”.
In an interview with Closer magazine, she said: “Before I had Benjamin, I was a crazy career girl and I thought I’d always be far too selfish to have children. I didn’t feel little kids were ever going to be part of my life.”
“But I met the right person in Michael and the hormones kicked in. Benjamin has been the best thing that happened to me. Having a child changed my perspective on the world – on what really matters.”
The former Steps member went on to confess that although being away from her partner is tough, she and Michel make it work as when they see each other they spend all their time “cosied up on the sofa”.
She said: “It’s tough being away from home. Michael works away as well, but it works and we’re together we spend all our time with each other cosied up on the sofa watching TV or even at a hotel.
Faye added that her partner had to “hold the fort” during her stint on the latest series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and insisted she’ll be taking him away as a thank you.
She said: “Strictly was a tough job and Michael had to hold the fort at home. I’m going to treat him to a nice holiday this year to say thank you.”

Lamar Odom reaching out to Khloe Kardashian

OHMYGOSSIP — Lamar Odom wants to reach out to heartbroken Khloé Kardashian.
The former professional basketball player is worried about his ex- wife – who he cheated on multiple times throughout their marriage – after her partner Tristan Thompson had a fling with Jordyn Woods, her sister Kylie Jenner’s best friend.
A source told PEOPLE: “Lamar has always cared about Khloé, he still has love for her and he hates that she’s been hurt again.
“He has a lot of regret over how he acted in their marriage. And he feels awful that she is going through more pain. He wants to reach out to her and give her his love and support.”
Khloé, 34, and Lamar, 39, tied the knot in 2009 and she put their divorce on hold to care for him in 2015 after he suffered a near-fatal overdose at a brothel in Nevada.
The pair went on to divorce in 2016.
Khloé and Tristan, 27, welcomed daughter True in April 2018 and Lamar sent them his good wishes after she announced her pregnancy.
He said at the time: “I was really happy for her. If she could take care of a grown man for four years the way she took care of me, I know she could take care of a baby.”
However, there was heartbreak for Khloé after it was revealed just days before the birth that Tristan had cheated.
And sources claim that their relationship never fully recovered.
An insider said: “Since True was born, things never really went back to normal with Tristan and Khloé. She was deeply hurt by him and basically kept him at arm’s length. One of the only reasons she was still seeing him was because of True.
“The fact that her family is breaking apart is a nightmare for her, but it’s been a long time coming. They’ve been living separate lives. She can’t trust Tristan, and she’s known that for a long time. She’s been focused on her daughter and creating a loving healthy home for her. She doesn’t deserve this and she knows it.”

Ralph Fiennes didn’t receive Voldemort tips from J.K Rowling

OHMYGOSSIP — J.K Rowling didn’t give Ralph Fiennes much direction while he was playing Voldemort in ‘Harry Potter’.
The 56-year-old actor revealed that while portraying the main antagonist in the fantasy franchise he didn’t rely too much on the series’ author to create his character and said his acting was an “instinctive, visceral, physical thing”.
In an interview with Empire magazine, he said: “There’s not a huge amount she [J.K Rowling] gives you. She describes his snake-like voice, I think. I had good directors, culminating in David Yates who brought the whole sequence of stories to a fantastic conclusion.
“I trusted Mike Newell, first and then David. There’s a sense of this spirit-monster devil person and some really cool moments, I think.
“Sometimes acting is an instinctive, visceral, physical thing, which you’re not thinking about in terms of an essay.”
The star made his first appearance as the villainous wizard in ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ directed by Mike Newell and then worked with David Yates who directed him in ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’ ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ and ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ – Part 1 and 2.
Ralph went on to explain that he relies on his directors and his “inner monitor” to tell him whether he’s doing a good job.
He said: “You put on a garment; you read a bit. Then the director feeds you and you create something.
“You have an inner monitor which says ‘This feels like it’s doing something’ or ‘This feels like it’s a bit over the top, a bit hokey. So where does it feel like there’s this weird, dark entity that’s manipulating and moving and watching. ‘”

Norah Jones’ ‘low-pressure’ record

OHMYGOSSIP — Norah Jones’ latest project was “low-pressure”.
The 39-year-old singer’s last album was 2016’s ‘Day Breaks’ and since then she has concentrated on releasing singles, which she will compile for her latest LP ‘Begin Again’, which will be released on April 12.
Explaining her new method for making music, Norah told Rolling Stone: “I felt inspired to record and try different things. I wanted it to be quick and fun and easy and low-pressure. It’s a great way to collaborate with other people. Just a day or three in the studio and that’s it.”
And Norah loved the collaborative process of working with different musicians on the tracks.
She said: “I try to go in with a few clips of voice memo ideas to have a jumping off point. With each session the little ideas were definitely with those particular musicians in mind, but the hope is to always create in the moment and with each session there were songs that came out of nothing. I was very open and had no real expectations as far as direction, but each session has exceeded my expectations.”
Norah explained that changing her method of working has made her feel “inspired” about her career.
She said: “It’s been so fun and I feel very inspired right now and love all the different directions this is going.”
Meanwhile, Norah recently revealed that Brazilian music was a large part of her childhood and helped form the way she sings, and added that she listens to Neil Young for “comfort”.
She said: “I’ve always listened to Brazilian music. When I was growing up, my mom had a lot of Brazilian records.
“She was married before in her twenties and lived in Rio de Janeiro for a couple of years. She always had that stuff playing, and it helped form the way I sing.
“I listen to a lot of Neil Young for comfort, like when I’m cooking – things like ‘American Stars ‘N Bars’. Country music is a comfort to me. ”

Rob Delaney needed wife’s support

OHMYGOSSIP — Rob Delaney couldn’t have got through his grief at losing his son without the support of his wife.
The ‘Catastrophe’ star and his spouse Leah were left devastated when two-year-old Henry lost his battle with cancer in January 2018 and he admitted their love for one another helped them through the tragedy.
He told Britain’s Marie Claire magazine: “Our third son, Henry, passed away when he was two. He had cancer.
“Part of our love is navigating grief together and I couldn’t do it without her.”
Rob – who has three other sons, aged six, five, and six months, with his spouse – “instantly” fell in love with Leah when they first met.
He recalled: “We met 14 years ago volunteering at a camp for people with disabilities.
“I fell in love with her instantly.
“She does triathlons and turns me on to great books and writers. She has also given birth to four children that I love desperately.”
The 41-year-old star announced in December that his fourth child had been born and insisted at the time the new arrival couldn’t possibly ease his family’s grief over Henry’s death.
He said: “We likely would’ve had a fourth anyway. But I mean, there’s mixed feelings.
“It’s sort of like they touch each other a little bit, but they almost exist in separate lanes. Having another child in no way, shape or form eases the grief of Henry dying.
“[But it also] doesn’t make our new son any less magical. I want to gobble him up and he deserves our full attention and love, and he grew in the same womb as Henry.”

Katie Price’s love drama

OHMYGOSSIP — Katie Price is reportedly planning to dump her boyfriend on TV.
The 40-year-old TV star is reportedly ready to end her relationship with Kris Boyson but is planning to do so on her reality TV show in order to maximise publicity.
A source told The Sun Online: “Things have been rocky between Kris and Katie ever since their recent holiday.
“They’re always snapping at each other and Katie’s getting sick of it. She’s telling friends that if he doesn’t buck his ideas up, she’ll be getting rid of him.
“She’s saying she’ll dump him on camera like she did Kieran. It’ll make great telly and at least it’s final then.
“Nobody knows if she’ll change her mind and mend the relationship, but things have hit a real low in the last few weeks.”
Kris began dating mother-of-five Katie after her marriage to Kieran Hayler fell apart and the pair have had an on/off relationship.
The fitness trainer believes she is scarred by her past relationships, in particular her first marriage to Peter Andre, which ended after three years in 2009.
Kris said: “She had such a hard time after Pete, I reckon she has really struggled from that.
“I think that was really mentally hard for her and I think that damaged her the most.”
Kris claimed Katie – who has Harvey, 16, with former boyfriend Dwight Yorke, Junior, 13, and Princess,11, with Peter and Jett, five, and four-year-old Bunny with Kieran – has few real friends and doesn’t trust many people.
He said: “She has a lot of famous friends but her close friends aren’t famous.
“She likes to keep herself to herself. But then when she goes out she likes to talk to everyone.
“Her and Kerry Katona talk all the time, but they never see each other.
“At one party Kerry came up to me and was like ‘I’ve heard all about you.”
“But she hasn’t got many real friends, her social circle is so small, she can’t trust anyone. She is quite paranoid, and I don’t blame her. Everyone slates her.”

Alex Jones to be replaced by Oti Mabuse during maternity leave

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The One Show’s Alex Jones is set to be replaced by Oti Mabuse when she goes on maternity leave.
‘The Greatest Dancer’ star Oti, 28, has revealed that she was approached by BBC bosses about taking over from Alex, 41, in May, when the star has her second child.
She told The Sun: “They said to me, ‘How would you feel about working on The One Show?’ And I thought they initially meant somewhere behind the camera. They were like, ‘No, to present!’
“Before they had even finished the sentence I said, ‘Yes, whatever you want! Yes, don’t worry, I will make it work!’ They left the room and I dropped to the floor and screamed at the top of my voice.”
Oti is reportedly set to present an episode of the show in March and bosses will then decide whether to replace Alex with her from May.
Alex – who gave birth to her first child, son Teddy, with husband Charlie Thomson in January 2017 – announced on ‘The One Show’ in December that she is pregnant again.
The star previously admitted she returned to the topic magazine programme just three months after she gave birth to Teddy, now 22 months, because she was worried that bosses would find her a permanent replacement if she didn’t.
She said: “I think women find it hard to be able to admit that they want to go back to work and that they are going to go back a bit earlier than everyone thinks is acceptable.
“It’s ok to say I like my job and I want to continue doing it while I’m a mother. You’ve worked very hard to get where you are. Anyone who respects their job, they are scared about someone stepping in and doing it better. It is a worry.
“People expect you to say the baby is the most important, and of course it is, but side-by-side you still want to be the same person you were before. You’ll never be exactly the same, of course. I think it’s OK to say, ‘Yes I’m going to go back to work’. ”
Alex wished she had waited at least five months before going back because it would have given her more time to bond with her baby.
She explained: “I went back a bit too soon.
“Before you have a baby you don’t really understand how it’s going to change you. I made promises that were a sort of unrealistic. Three and a half months was very early. But we made it work. In hindsight, five and a half months would have been better. But you don’t know before going off on maternity.”

KiKi Layne calls Regina King mom

OHMYGOSSIP — KiKi Layne calls Regina King “mom”.
The 27-year-old actress struck up a friendship with her ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’ co-star and she’s thankful to have her to turn to for support and advice, as well as ‘Black Panther’ star Lupita Nyong’o.
She told Britain’s Marie Claire magazine: “There were times on set when she would remind me to trust myself. She was really in my corner. I still call her my ‘mom’.
“I met her recently and she reminded me not to get too overwhelmed, she’s got a lot of warm energy.
“It was nice to feel so supported and to hear her excitement for where my career may be headed.”
KiKi would love to have a diverse career like Will smith and not be typecast by her race.
She said: “Alongside Angela Bassett, Will Smith is the actor I look up to the most, because he’s had so much variety in his career and hasn’t allowed the industry to put him in a box.
“That’s the kind of career I want, where I can do something really heavy, but light, fun stuff too.”
The ‘Moonlight’ actress has had a successful few years but her “standout” was watching Cicely Tyson become the first black woman to receive an honorary Oscar.
She said: “By far my standout moment of last year was at the Governor’s Awards in Hollywood when I witnessed Cicely Tyson receive her honorary Oscar.
“I’m surrounded by all of these people I’ve looked up to and dreamed of working with and I get to see this woman who has opened doors for so many women who look like me.”

Jesy Nelson and Chris Hughes reconcile

OHMYGOSSIP — Jesy Nelson and Chris Hughes have reconciled.
The Little Mix singer and the reality TV star’s short-lived romance previously ended amid Jesy’s concerns he was using her to boost his profile but the pair are giving their relationship another chance and have been spotted jetting off on holiday together.
Pictures obtained by MailOnline showed Jesy, 27 and Chris, 26, at London City Airport together ahead of their flight.
Jesy and Chris’ romance was first revealed last month when they were seen smooching in a kebab shop in the Elephant & Castle area, following a date at ‘Harry Potter’-themed magical bar The Cauldron in the UK capital.
After having drinks, the pair decided to get some food from the nearby eatery, but they couldn’t resist having a kiss and they even playfully poked their tongues out at one point to have a naughty lick of each other’s tongues.
An onlooker said: “They couldn’t keep their mitts off one another. They kept pausing mid-sentence to snog, and were really affectionate. It may be early days but there’s definitely a real spark.”
The ‘Woman Like Me’ hitmaker had been single since splitting with Harry James last November and Jesy was previously engaged to Rixton star Jake Roche from July 2015 until late 2016.
Chris found fame and love with Olivia Attwood on the 2017 series of ‘Love Island’, with the couple finishing in third place.
However, outside of the villa their relationship hit the rocks and they split in February 2018.
