Tobey Maguire laughs off retirement rumours

OHMYGOSSIP — Tobey Maguire has laughed off rumours he’s retired.
The 43-year-old actor – who is best known for portraying Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Sam Raimi’s ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy – hasn’t been on the big screen since 2014’s ‘Pawn Sacrifice’ and he admitted that the reason he hasn’t acted in five years is because he hasn’t felt “called” to any of the parts he’s been offered.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: “Have I retired? (Laughs.) I’ll do what I feel called to do. I suspect I’ll be excited when I do it. Like, just whenever the calling appears, I guess.”
Tobey – who has 12-year-old Ruby and nine-year-old Otis with wife Jennifer Meyer – also opened up about what he gets up to in his spare time, with his favourite activities including nerdy things like “competitive puzzling” and pickle ball – a paddle sport which combines badminton, tennis and table tennis.
He said: “I’ve been playing some pickle ball with my friends, and hang out with my kids. I’m going skiing soon. I’ve done a couple jigsaw puzzles recently.
“A buddy of ours does some puzzling himself, and he introduced me to competitive puzzling.”
Meanwhile, Tobey – who setup his own production company Material Pictures in 2012 with Matthew Plouffe, which has recently secured a $14 million deal with Amazon – also offered up his opinion of his ‘Spider-Man’ successors Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland, and admitted he “appreciated” what he has seen of the films and likes both stars “a ton”.
He said: “I haven’t seen all of them. What I’ve seen, I’ve appreciated. I like both of the actors a ton.
“I think they’re both super talented.
“I would just say I appreciated them and I like the actors, I like the choices.”
Andrew starred in 2012’s ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ and the 2014 sequel.
Whilst Tom stars as the web-throwing superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with his debut in 2016’s ‘Avengers: Civil War’.
Tobey also admitted he wouldn’t turn down another superhero role.
He said: “I just don’t really have an ‘I would or wouldn’t do’ mindset. I’ll just do whatever. … “Whatever it is that comes that I feel called to, that may or may not fit in any kind of box.”

Amy Adams to star in Hillbilly Elegy

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Adams is set to star in ‘Hillbilly Elegy’.
The movie – which has been in development since 2017 – is based on the 2016 bestselling memoir of the same name by author J.D. Vance, and 44-year-old actress Adams will be directed by Ron Howard in the motion picture.
According to Variety, Vanessa Taylor has adapted the script, while Vance and Julie Oh will executive produce, with Howard, Brian Grazer and Karen Lunder set to produce the film.
The book tells the tale of Vance – who was born in Kentucky – growing up in the Rust Belt, an area of the United States from the Great Lakes to the upper Midwest where deindustrialisation caused economic decline, population loss, and urban decay.
Thanks to his grandmother, Vance learned to appreciate his education which eventually helped him rise out of poverty.
Netflix won a bidding war to finance the $45 million movie in January.
Imagine Entertainment previously secured the rights to the book following a bidding war, and the company’s president Erica Huggins previously described the tome as a “powerful, true coming-of-age memoir”.
She said in a statement: “‘Hillbilly Elegy’ is a powerful, true coming-of-age memoir by J.D. Vance.
“Through the lens of a colourful, chaotic family, and with remarkable compassion and self-awareness, J.D. has been able to look back on his own upbringing as a ‘hillbilly’ to illuminate the plight of America’s white working class, speaking directly to the turmoil of our current political climate.”

Dua Lipa working with Nile Rodgers on new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa was “on the brink of tears” working with Nile Rodgers on her new album.
The ‘New Rules’ hitmaker has been at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London this week recording the “live instrumentation” for her second record with the legendary producer.
The 23-year-old pop superstar heaped praise on the ‘Get Lucky’ hitmaker – who has worked with the likes of Madonna, David Bowie, Diana Ross, Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera during his illustrious career – for breathing “more life” into her new songs, which won’t be “predominantly electronic” like her 2017 self-titled debut.
Alongside pictures of the pair hard at work, Dua wrote to her fans on social media: “I want to keep you all in and part of the process so, as I’m slowly going on and starting to finish songs for my next album, yesterday was truly one for the books.
“After touring for so long, I realised after having such a predominately electronic album as my first, it needed a lot more live instrumentation.
“This album I’m doing exactly that.
“I was in the studio last night with the legend @nilerodgers and I was on the brink of tears as I saw more life being brought into these records!
“Every day we’re getting a little bit closer … I am so excited for you to hear this.”
Dua’s latest album update comes after it was reported that Kanye West is keen to get the ‘Electricity’ hitmaker on a track for his star-studded LP ‘Yandhi’.
The pair met at one of the 41-year-old star’s legendary Sunday church services in Los Angeles, and the ‘Famous’ rapper is believed to have already penned “a few songs” that are “perfect” for her.
An insider said: “Kanye is super impressed with Dua’s voice and he knows she’s really hot property in the industry right now.
“He met her at the church service he holds in LA every Sunday and is now keen to get her on board.
“She’s already teamed up with Calvin Harris and he saw how well that song did commercially.
“He’s got a few songs he thinks Dua would be perfect for and is really eager to get her on his next album Yandhi.”

Dame Barbara Windsor can’t remember where she lives amid Alzheimer’s battle

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Barbara Windsor struggles to remember what house she lives in amid her Alzheimer’s battle.
The former ‘EastEnders’ star was diagnosed with the degenerative brain condition in 2014 and her husband Scott Mitchell, 56, has admitted that although she has occasional moments of clarity Barbara, 81, struggles to move around her home and sometimes forgets that she’s eaten.
In an interview with the Mirror, he said: “She can’t place the house we’re in and asks me, ‘do we live here?’ ”
Scott explained that while there are moments his wife seems like herself, there is “no rhyme or reason”.
He added: “You’ve got the old version back and for that split second, it goes out of my mind that she has these problems.
“The 20 minutes after dinner, she’ll ask me what we’re going to eat tonight. There’s no rhyme or reason.”
The former doctor went on to say that despite the illness, the pair still have “such fun” together and still “make each other laugh”.
He said: “I want it to be clear that Barbara and I, we still have such fun. One minute it’ll be like talking to the old Barbara, we still make each other laugh and we have fits of giggles”
Scott also explained that the actress “really comes alive” when she goes to the theatre and despite her battle still “loves seeing the public”.
He said: “She seems to really come alive in the theatre. She loves seeing the public, who have been absolutely incredible to her. When we do go out, she enjoys herself.
“They are like trigger points, it’s just being in a theatre is a familiar part of her life.
“Obviously, we can’t go to the theatre every day. However, there is a sense of belonging. Barbara kind of doesn’t want to go out as much as she used to.”

Michael Jackson wanted ‘thousands’ of own kids

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Jackson wanted “thousands” of his own kids and planned to be cloned and cryogenically frozen when he died.
The late King of Pop’s former chauffeur, Al Bowman, has claimed that he took the singer and his personal doctors to a three-day convention hosted by the Raelian movement – which believes the key to eternal life is cloning – to discuss being “reanimated” after his death to have more “little Michael Jackson’s running around” in the future.
Al told The Sun Online: “He [Jackson] bounced out of that conference – I heard him telling everyone in the back of the limo how he wanted to be cloned and frozen after his death.
“He didn’t care how much it cost – he wanted to be reanimated, to live forever. I remember he was so excited that there could be thousands little Michael Jacksons running around – he was smiling and laughing.
“He wanted them to take his cells and clone him – he was really in to this stuff, you could hear the excitement in his voice.”
Al, 60, claimed that Michael’s pal and illusionist, Uri Geller, also went along to the Raelien cloning event to talk about the “freezing of cells”.
He added: “I had driven Michael Jackson several times over the years but this time I actually got the job through a friend who told me that Jackson was planning to go to this Raelian cloning event and he didn’t want to fly because it was a large group.
“So I picked them up in this 12 seater Hummer that I was actually looking after for a friend and it wasn’t the normal sort of Michael Jackson crowd – this wasn’t dancers and publicists – it was scientists and doctors.
“I remember that his friend Uri Geller was there too. Their conversations on the way there were all about cryonics, cloning, freezing of cells – all this scientific stuff.”
The ‘Bad’ hitmaker’s driver also explained that the convention was “mind-blowing” and thinks there is a good possibility that Michael is actually frozen at the Alcor Life Extension Foundation “cryonics facility” in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Al continued: “There are people who think he is one of the people in Scottsdale in the below-zero nitrogen metal tubes they have in the cryonics facility there.
“Having heard how excited he was about this whole thing I think there’s a good possibility he is cryogenically frozen. He believed in reanimation, he was a reanimator.”

Gillian Wright was ‘overwhelmed’ by EastEnders plot

OHMYGOSSIP — Gillian Wright felt like she had been “punched in the stomach” when she found out her ‘EastEnders’ character would battle ovarian cancer.
The 58-year-old star was left “overwhelmed” when the Jean Slater storyline was first suggested to her by the BBC One soap’s senior executive producer Kate Oates because she knew it would be “big”, and she was “quite shocked” by her own reaction.
She said: “My heart absolutely plummeted and I felt I’d been punched in the stomach.
“I was quite shocked by my reaction really. Because it is such a big thing.
“I felt a bit overwhelmed by it. But at the same time I felt chuffed that they thought I was good enough to be able to carry a story like that.”
Gillian was also pleased that Kate asked her advice on the plot before it became a concrete decision.
She said: “Kate Oates called me for a meeting and actually, she didn’t’ tell me, she said she had a story that she wanted to propose to me and asked what I thought about it.
“So it wasn’t like, ‘You are doing this.’ It was more, ‘We’ve got this idea, we want to know how you feel about it and what you’ve got to say about it.’
“And that was a really lovely way of approaching an idea.”
Jon Sen recently landed the role as EastEnders’ new exec producer, and he was “over the moon” when he found out the soap had Jean’s cancer storyline in the pipeline.
Speaking in a joint interview on a video posted on the ‘EastEnders’ Twitter account, he said: “When you join a show like ‘EastEnders’ the first question you ask is, ‘What stories are on the table already?’
“I was over the moon when I heard they were doing the story of Jean’s cancer.”

Fleetwood Mac replace The Rolling Stones at New Orleans Jazz Festival

OHMYGOSSIP — Fleetwood Mac will replace The Rolling Stones at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
The ‘Go Your Own Way’ hitmakers have stepped in for the iconic rock band at the 50th anniversary edition of the world renowned music extravaganza in Louisiana on May 2, after they were forced to reschedule their North American ‘No Filter Tour’, which was originally due to begin in April, as a result of frontman Sir Mick Jagger undergoing heart valve surgery.
The 75-year-old music legend is said to be recovering and in great health following the operation in New York, and doctors are now monitoring the ‘Satisfaction’ hitmaker in case any complications arise after he went under the knife.
According to reports, he should be back on stage by July.
Sources told Billboard that Mick will need to rest for four to five days to allow the artery to heal without bleeding issues, following the transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure.
The operation was said to be minimally invasive, and medics repaired the heart value using a catheter to access a major artery – enabling him to avoid major surgery.
A source told PEOPLE: “I was told he’s fine.”
The source added: “If it was someone else, they’d need to recover for two weeks but because Mick jumps around and the performances are strenuous, he needed to postpone the tour.”
Mick recently admitted he was “hugely disappointed” about the postponement.
He said: “I hate letting our fans down and I’m hugely disappointed to have to postpone the tour but am looking forward to getting back on stage as soon as I can.”
The band – also made up of Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood – added in their own statement: “Mick Jagger has been advised by doctors that he cannot go on tour at this time as he needs medical treatment. The doctors have advised Mick that he is expected to make a complete recovery so that he can get back on stage as soon as possible.”

The Vamps deal with ‘dark side’ of music industry as ‘close knit group’

OHMYGOSSIP — The Vamps deal with the “dark side” of the music industry as a “close knit group”.
The ‘Can We Dance’ hitmakers – comprised of Bradley Simpson, Tristan Evans, Connor Ball and James McVey – have experienced the “negative” aspects of the industry and no matter what, they would never allow for any of them to turn into “k***heads”.
Frontman Bradley told the Daily Star Online: “Part of it is that we deal with anything that goes on as a close knit group, the four of us and also our family.
“The voices of reason are very close to us, you are the people you surround yourself with and we are very lucky that we have good group around us.
“If it ever gets to the point when we are going on like k***heads someone will go sit down but we don’t really have to tell each other off.”
Tristan says that a major factor about dealing with any negativity or issues is being “open” and starting a dialogue.
He said: “People go through the dark side including us and I feel like it is important to talk about it.
“It is good to speak out about things – everyone goes through that.”
Bradley admitted it’s all too “easy” to go out drinking until the early hours and that musicians caught up in the partying lifestyle have to “make a conscious decision” to avoid falling into a trap.
He said: “It is so easy to fall into those negative behaviour patterns, either if it is drinking or going out too much or whatever it is, it is very easy to fall into but it has to be a conscious decision to steer away from those things.”
James added that The Vamps – who kick off their ‘Four Corners Tour’ in Plymouth on April 27 – all make sure they are as healthy and fit as possible on the road and he feels that has had an impact on the lifestyle they lead.
He added: “We are heathy individually and we keep up with the fitness.
“I think on tour if you are in an unhealthy band you naturally sway to an unhealthy lifestyle so it is good that we are surrounded by a team and crew who are all healthy and just wants the best for each other.”

Matt Lucas gets mistaken for Rebel Wilson

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Lucas gets mistaken for his ‘Bridesmaids’ co-star Rebel Wilson all the time.
The 45-year-old comedian and ‘Isn’t It Romantic’ star played housemates in the 2011 comedy flick and they were also real-life lodgers in West Hollywood between 2012 and 2015.
The ‘Little Britain’ creator not only gets noticed for playing Nardole, a companion of the Twelfth Doctor played by Peter Capaldi in the British sci-fi series ‘Doctor Who’, but people also think he’s Rebel, romantically linked to her or a relative, which he admitted is “a bit weird”.
Appearing on ‘The Graham Norton Show’ on Friday (05.04.19), he said: “People recognise me there because of ‘Doctor Who’ but also for ‘Bridesmaids’, but they think I am Rebel Wilson!
“It’s a bit weird, but they do, or they think we are brother and sister, husband and wife, the same person, or all three!”
Matt is returning to the stage in ‘Les Misérables’, alongside Michael Ball, Alfie Boe and Carrie Hope Fletcher, for a limited run at the Gielgud Theatre on London’s West End, which is his “dream” gig.
He said: “It is my dream job. Usually I wouldn’t go back to something again, but I just love this show.
“It’s a nice show and a nice bunch of people so it’s nice to go back and rejoin the family.”
Rebel previously admitted that Matt annoyed her by singing musical numbers when she was trying to sleep in their apartment.
The 39-year-old actress said: “(His worse habit is) singing musicals while I’m asleep. I can hear him through the walls.”
When asked who is the funniest person she knows, Rebel praised her flatmate saying: “I’m going to say Matt, but that’s really hard. I’ve met some of the world’s top comedians. And Jennifer Lawrence. She’s hilarious in real life, funnier than me.”
‘The Graham Norton Show’ airs on BBC One on Friday (05.04.19) from 10.35pm

Megan Barton Hanson in talks to appear on Celebs Go Dating

OHMYGOSSIP — Megan Barton Hanson is reportedly in talks to appear on ‘Celebs Go Dating’.
The ‘Love Island’ beauty – who split from Wes Nelson earlier this year – is said to be considering whether or not to take part on another TV dating show, but network bosses are hopeful she will join the E4 programme because she is “great value”.
A source told The Sun’s Bizarre TV column: “Bosses think Megan would be great value as most men find her irresistible.
“She’s mulling it over at the moment as everything she does she wants to properly commit to.
“It’s a big decision to go and find love on television again and she doesn’t want to jump into anything.”
Wes and Megan fell for each other in the ‘Love Island’ villa last summer only to go their separate ways in February.
Since splitting, the 21-year-old hunk is said to have moved on from her with Instagram model Lissy Roddy – whose real name is Alicia Roddy – after they met at a Nasty Gal fashion party in Dublin.
The pair’s break up came while Wes was competing on ice skating reality TV show ‘Dancing on Ice’, on which he performed alongside pro skater Vanessa Bauer, who he was also linked to.
However, the star insisted that Vanessa had nothing to do with their break up.
Wes previously admitted he believes Megan wished he hadn’t signed up for ‘Dancing On Ice’ because she wanted them to lead a “simpler life” away from the spotlight.
He said: “I think she wishes I didn’t do ‘Dancing on Ice’ just purely because we wanted a simpler sort of life but it’s very difficult when you’ve come out of a show like ‘Love Island’.
“You’ve gotta strike while the iron’s hot. There’s a sense of, I’m very career driven so after leaving the show I thought strike while the iron is hot. I’ve got all these opportunities ahead of me it would be silly for me not to utilise them.”

John Boyega narrating Serengeti natural history series

OHMYGOSSIP — John Boyega will narrate new natural history series ‘Serengeti’.
The ‘Star Wars’ actor has been announced as the voice of the upcoming dramatised six-part show, which is set to look in intimate detail at the challenges and experiences faced by some of the African region’s most famous and iconic species.
The new programme – which is set to air on BBC One later this year – will follow interconnected stories of a range of Savannah animals over one year.
The cast of creatures set to be featured range from warthogs and mongoose to lions and cheetahs, and the Beeb has promised to film “our favourite African animal characters” in more intimate detail than ever before.
The broadcaster added: “With unique access to a pristine and unspoilt corner of the Serengeti, the series captures the high drama of the daily lives of the area’s distinctive wildlife up close, joining them in the emotional moments they face at key points in their lives, in their natural habitat.”
The team behind the show have been using a host of groundbreaking filming techniques and technologies, including multiple stabilised camera systems and drones.
The announcement follows advice from iconic broadcaster Sir David Attenborough – star of the likes of ‘Planet Earth’ – who said nature shows have a “responsibility” in the battle against climate change.
He recently explained: “There’s a big responsibility that natural history filmmakers have.
“I’d love to spend the whole time saying: ‘Look at these wonderful things, aren’t they lovely?’ But you have a responsibility for pointing out that unless we change our ways, they’re not going to be here forever.”
For John, 27, the exciting new project comes after he voiced the rabbit Bigwig in BBC and Netflix’s ‘Watership Down’ mini series.

Ant McPartlin overwhelmed by fan support on BGT

OHMYGOSSIP — Ant McPartlin was “so emotional” on his first day back on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ because he didn’t expect such “goodwill and love” from fans.
The 43-year-old TV presenter – who took time out of the spotlight last year following a drink-driving conviction – has returned to co-hosting duties on the talent show alongside Declan Donnelly, and he was overwhelmed by the positive supporter reaction as the pair were reunited.
He told the Metro newspaper: “Wow, it was so emotional for me.
“I don’t think either of us were quite prepared for that. We didn’t expect that level of goodwill and love. It was a very emotional day for me.”
The new series of ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ kicks off on Saturday (06.04.19), and in the first episode Ant was touched when a young contestant told him she had “missed” him.
She jumped into his arms and whispered: “I’ve missed you.”
Hugging the little girl, Ant told her: “I missed you, too.”
Ant was arrested in May 2018 and was later fined £86,000 and given a 20-month driving ban after pleading guilty to drink-driving.
He then took time out from his presenting partnership with Dec to focus on getting help to overcome his demons.
Elsewhere in the episode, ‘BGT’ judge David Walliams also had an emotional moment.
The ‘Little Britain’ comedian cried when Flakefleet Primary School from Lancashire performed a dance routine, because he thought their performance was “so beautiful”.
David said: “I was sobbing. I don’t think I’ve sobbed on this show before, ever. It takes a lot to make me cry.
“But there was just an act which was just so beautiful so life affirming, so joyous.
“It was one of those strange things where it’s like happy tears, but you are absolutely sobbing. And actually it wasn’t just me.
“Stephen Mulhern just said there were grown men in the audience sobbing throughout it. I think it’s one of the most magic moments we have ever seen on the show.”
‘Britain’s Got Talent’ returns to ITV on Saturday at 7.15pm on ITV.

She wrote on Twitter: “F I F T E E N Year’s ago today was my first day at playing “Sophie Webster” They cut off all my hair and gave me a fringe Who would have thought all these years later I would still be there, making a nuisance of myself How time flys!! (sic)”

Vin Diesel hints he’s joined the Avatar sequels

OHMYGOSSIP — Vin Diesel has teased that he has joined the ‘Avatar’ sequels.
The 51-year-old actor has seemingly let slip that he will be working with James Cameron on the new instalments of his sci-fi franchise after he shared a video on Instagram of himself and the filmmaker on set, in which he strongly suggested the pair were working together.
Speaking in the video, the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ star said: “It’s long overdue, there is one person in Hollywood I’ve always wanted to work with and learn from, and so, all things come, I guess, to those that wait.”
The ‘Titanic’ director then quipped: “We’re actually gonna give him the flashy thing from ‘Men In Black’ when he leaves here so he has no memory whatsoever of what he’s seen.”
The ‘Fast and Furious’ star captioned the video: “And the journey continues… #Blessed #Grateful #Avatar.”
The original 2009 film focuses on the human led Resources Development Administration (RDA) attempting to mine Pandora for unobtanium, a hugely valuable mineral.
The moon is inhabited by indigenous aliens the Na’vi, beings who appear primitive but are highly evolved, and as the planet’s environment is poisonous to human beings, human/Na’vi hybrids called Avatars must link to human minds to allow for free movement on the planet.
Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a paralysed former marine becomes mobile again through one such Avatar and falls in love with a Na’vi woman (Zoe Saldana), however, he is drawn into a battle for the survival of her world when the RDA threaten to destroy it.
The new films – which will be released in 2020 and then in 2021, 2024 and 2025 – will take Sam’s character Jake on an “emotional rollercoaster”.
Cameron previously said: “Having gone through the experience with [Sam] on Avatar, I now knew how to write the Jake character going forward across the emotional rollercoaster of the next four movies. It’s been tough on him. He’s done two pictures back to back now, because we did 2 and 3 together. He had to go to some dark places.”
