Prince’s family file new wrongful death lawsuit

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince’s family have filed a lawsuit against the doctor who prescribed him pain medication.
The ‘Purple Rain’ hitmaker passed away on April 21, 2016, at the age of 57, after an accidental Fentanyl overdose and the music legend’s home was laden with pills prescribed to Peter Bravestrong, which was believed to be the alias Prince went under to maintain his privacy.
Prince’s family claim his doctor Michael Schulenberg failed to treat his addiction, which led to his death.
In the lawsuit filed in Hennepin County District, Prince’s family alleged that Dr Schulenberg “and others had an opportunity and duty during the weeks before Prince’s death to diagnose and treat Prince’s opioid addiction, and to prevent his death. They failed to do so”.
According to ABC News, the suit added: “He failed to appropriately evaluate, diagnose, treat and counsel Prince for his opioid addiction, and further failed to take appropriate and reasonable steps to prevent the foreseeably fatal result of that addiction. These departures from the standard of acceptable medical practice had a substantial part in bringing about Prince’s death.”
Dr Schulenberg denies the claims.
In April, Prince’s family filed a lawsuit against the hospital that treated his first opioid overdose.
After it was announced by authorities in Minnesota that there would be no criminal charges surrounding the death of the ‘Purple Rain’ hitmaker, his family took legal action against Trinity Medical Centre, the Illinois hospital that treated the singer for an overdose the week before his death.
Prince’s family – who filed the suit under the name of a trustee, Michael A. Zimmer – allege in the documents that the singer received “improper medical care” when he arrived for treatment in the early hours of April 15 2016.
The lawsuit also claims that the ‘Little Red Corvette’ singer’s death was a “direct and proximate cause” of the hospital failing to treat his overdose properly, as well as its failure to investigate the cause and provide proper counselling.
Lawyers for Prince’s family, George Loucas and John Goetz, said in a statement: “What happened to Prince is happening to families across America. The family wishes through its investigation to shed light on this epidemic and how to better the fight to save lives. If Prince’s death helps save lives, then all was not lost.”
The lawsuit names Trinity Medical Centre along with its parent companies, as well as Nicole F. Mancha, a doctor who provided Prince with care at the hospital, and an unidentified pharmacist or pharmacy employee “that consulted” in the care provided to Prince.
Prince’s family is also suing pharmacy chain Walgreens for “dispensing narcotic prescription medications” to the singer for an invalid medical purpose.
However, Goetz says that the new lawsuit will replace the suit filed in April.
Goetz said: “Prince lived in Minnesota all his life and passed away here, so we always thought his family’s lawsuit belonged in Minnesota.
“The Minnesota lawsuit is against all parties whom we now believe share legal responsibility for Prince’s death. But it is possible that we will identify and add other parties as we move forward with the case.”

Rihanna set to donate money from her latest beauty launch

OHMYGOSSIP — Rihanna is set to donate the proceeds from her latest make-up product to a charity that helps women and children in need.
The 30-year-old singer’s Clara Lionel Foundation will partner with the Global Partnership for Education and the Campaign for Female Education in order to provide scholarships to girls in Malawi.
Speaking to Marie Claire magazine, Justine Lucas, the executive director of Rihanna’s charity, explained: “We hope that this collaboration allows the Fenty Beauty community to feel not only like they’re part of the CLF journey but also that they can take action on issues they are passionate about.
“At the heart of our mission is the idea that everyone can play a part in creating a more just and equitable world by contributing in their own way.”
The singer is to donate the proceeds from each of her new highlighters to the foundation.
Rihanna has focused an ever-increasing amount of her attention on her fashion and beauty labels over recent years.
And the Bajan star previously insisted she’s made a conscious effort to produce products for “all body types”.
She added: “That was very intentional when I first started, even back with River Island. With [Fenty x Puma], I have so much freedom. I want everybody in my crew to have something.
“You don’t just design for yourself. You use your taste as the muse of everything. I like to play around with silhouettes. Trust me, I could always use a good fat-day outfit. I like to be comfortable.”
Rihanna is known globally for her sense of style, and she previously admitted she likes to take risks with her clothes.
She said: “I enjoy new perspective. I get bored really easily, so I love when things can trigger an inspiration in my mind. Things I love the most are the things that I get jealous that I didn’t think of or come up with myself.”

Aretha Franklin’s estate to donate fur collection to PETA?

OHMYGOSSIP — Aretha Franklin’s estate has been urged by PETA to donate her fur coats to the organisation.
The music icon died at her home on August 16, aged 76, and the animal rights’ organisation has subsequently written a letter to Franklin’s niece Sabrina Garrett Owens, who is the representative of the singer’s estate.
PETA has called on Owens to donate the late singer’s collection to its fur donation campaign, which sends furs to people in refugee camps and homeless shelters.
PETA executive president Tracy Reiman told ET Canada: “By donating Aretha Franklin’s fur coats to PETA, her family could expand her legacy of social justice to animals.
“While we can’t bring back the animals who suffered and died for them, these coats can help others by providing some much-needed warmth to orphaned animals and humans in desperate need.”
A number of high-profile celebrities – including the likes of Mariah Carey and Kim Cattrall – have previously donated their fur to the scheme.
Meanwhile, it was recently announced that Gladys Knight is set to perform at Franklin’s upcoming memorial.
The Queen of Soul – who battled pancreatic cancer for several years before her death – will be honoured with a memorial service at Chene Park Amphitheatre in Detroit on August 30.
And TMZ recently obtained the full list of performers, which includes 74-year-old Gladys, who is known as the Empress of Soul.
Following Franklin’s passing, she took to Twitter to pay tribute to the star, saying she “set a standard” for female musicians to follow.
She wrote at the time: “Aretha, your music set a standard for every single lady in this industry to rise to. You have touched minds, hearts and spirits, including my own. I pray you have a smooth journey Ree Ree and hopefully I’ll get to sing with you in the Heavenly choir. Love you #QueenOfSoul (sic)”

Richard Madden: Acting is about interpretation

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Madden thinks of himself as an “interpreter”.
The 32-year-old star – who has appeared in ‘Game of Thrones’ and the Disney movie ‘Cinderella’ – has admitted he predominantly considers acting to be an exercise in interpretation.
He explained: “A great director can bring out lots in an actor’s performance. I consider myself an interpreter and the director is also an interpreter of the writer’s story.
“So really we’re all interpreters coming together with our own visions and trying to combine them into a rounded piece.”
Richard hasn’t prepared in exactly the same way for any of the roles he’s accepted during his career.
He told the Guardian newspaper: “Nothing about what I do seems to have a consistency. I don’t prepare the same for any role.
“But I’m always excited to work with a new director to see what kind of challenges they can bring to the project and what performance they can draw out of my interpretation.”
Despite establishing himself as a TV and film star, Richard loves working in theatre productions.
The actor revealed he is keen to do more theatre work in the future, although it’s not something he’s focused on in the short term.
Reflecting on his passion for the theatre and his future career ambitions, the actor said: “I would like to do more plays in the future.
“I prefer to do theatre in smaller spaces. I love the Donmar, upstairs at the Royal Court, and the Bush Theatre, for example. And I’d love to go back to the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow where I first did theatre many years ago.
“But right now I’m really enjoying acting for camera and working out how to do it better.”

Vincent Cassel marries French model Tina Kunakey

OHMYGOSSIP — Vincent Cassel has married 21-year-old model Tina Kunakey.
The 51-year-old actor – who has starred in hit films such as ‘La Haine’ and ‘Black Swan’ – tied the knot for the second time on Friday (24.08.18), marrying the French beauty during an intimate ceremony at the city hall in Bidart, France.
Vincent – who was married to actress Monica Bellucci from 1999 until 2013 – wore a cream suit, pink shirt and sunglasses for the special day, while his model wife wore a custom Vera Wang strapless white dress, which featured a plunging neckline.
The loved-up couple have been together since 2016 and Tina hinted at their engagement in May, when she posted an image on social media of them on a red carpet and a ring emoji.
Vincent previously admitted he relishes the feeling of being in love.
However, the actor also claimed that men and women are often seeking different things from a relationship.
He explained: “The thing is, love makes you feel alive. If most women are looking for security, I think men look for adventure.
“There’s an expression in French – to go around the world with your d**k and a knife – ‘n’avoir que la bite et le couteau’. Later in life, a man has the possibility to reinvent himself again and again.”
But Vincent suggested it’s harder for women to reinvent themselves once they go past a certain age.
He said: “The biological clock puts the game on another level for them.
“Maybe they’re more profound, maybe more mature, maybe they have an approach to life that’s deeper. But men are – what’s the word? – sterile, in many ways. We don’t give birth. It feels like we need to keep on. And biologically we are able to.”

Christina Milian has ‘$100,000 of valuables stolen’

OHMYGOSSIP — Christina Milian and her boyfriend Matt Pokroa reportedly had almost $100,000 of valuables stolen from their home in the San Fernando Valley.
The 36-year-old singer’s property was broken into at around 1pm on Friday (24.08.18) and the criminals headed straight toward their bedroom, where they grabbed jewellry and watches, according to TMZ.
Christina and her boyfriend – who is also a singer – were out of the country at the time of the robbery.
The couple left their alarm on when they left home, but the thieves managed to beat the security system and also escape the attention the LAPD, who are now trying to track them down.
Meanwhile, Christina previously revealed she decided to open up about her abusive ex-boyfriend because she wanted to help other abuse victims.
The singer spoke out about a terrifying incident – which occurred when she was just 17 – when her boyfriend pulled a gun on her.
She shared: “I opened up about my experience with domestic abuse because I think it’s something that is so hidden and so in the dark. The unfortunate thing of going through something like that is you just kind of feel like you’re alone.
“I want to let girls and just anybody going through that know that they’re not the only ones that have been through it, and you can make your way out, and to be confident and feel better about themselves.
“It’s technically a brainwashing situation and it takes a lot to rebuild your confidence. But you can do it. Listen to that voice in your head that’s telling you that you need to leave.”
Christina – who has an eight-year-old daughter called Violet – managed to leave her unnamed ex in New York and moved to Los Angeles to start a new life.

Lauren Conrad is ‘too busy’ to star in The Hills: New Beginnings

OHMYGOSSIP — Lauren Conrad’s jam-packed schedule is the reason she’s not appearing in the reboot of ‘The Hills’.
MTV has announced plans to revive the hit reality series, but Lauren will not be making a comeback, with a source telling TMZ that she is simply too busy with her other business ventures to commit to the reboot.
‘The Hills: New Beginnings’ is scheduled to premiere in 2019, yet Lauren is instead focused on her clothing lines and her own stores.
In fact, her business portfolio is considerably stronger than any of her former co-stars, which had made it easier for her to rebuff MTV’s advances.
And contrary to speculation, Lauren’s decision reportedly has nothing to do with any lingering animosity between herself and any of the show’s other big names.
Earlier this week, meanwhile, it was announced that Kristin Cavallari’s reality TV show has been renewed for a second series.
The 31-year-old beauty – who also starred on ‘The Hills’ – confirmed that her hit E! programme ‘Very Cavallari’ will return to screens next year for a second instalment – made up of 10 one-hour episodes – after the first season proved a huge success with viewers.
She said: “I couldn’t be happier that ‘Very Cavallari’ will be returning for season two. I had the best time filming our first season and feel like we are just getting started, so I can’t wait to come back for more next year!”
Kristin previously said she wouldn’t trade her time on ‘The Hills’ “for the world”.
She said: “It got me to where I am today.”
But she admitted she can’t bear to watch old episodes of the show.
She added: “If I did watch them I would cringe. I think MTV played them a couple summers ago and my husband Jay put them on as a joke to mess with me. It was definitely cringe-worthy.”

Missy Elliott pens touching tribute to Aaliyah

OHMYGOSSIP — Missy Elliott has penned a touching tribute to Aaliyah to mark the 17th anniversary of her death.
The American singer was killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas on 25 August, 2001, and to mark the anniversary, Missy has taken to Twitter to share a video of herself writing a handwritten note to Aaliyah.
It reads: “Aaliyah, we miss you so much. But your legacy will live on forever and ever!”
The heartfelt tribute was captioned: “Aaliyah (Babygirl) I can only imagine how great you would be today winning oscars [winking emoji] & creating sick music & still setting fashion trends! Your mom & brother @RAD_6 & your fans been holding it down 4 u [love heart emoji] you will always be A One in A Million sleep peacefully angel Babygirl [praying emoji] (sic)”
Missy, 47, previously revealed that as well as being a hugely talented singer and actress, Aaliyah was also incredibly funny.
She shared: “Aaliyah, she was like a comedian. She always wanted to laugh.”
The duo first worked together during the mid-1990s and Missy was initially fearful that the singer – who passed away at the age of 22 – would be a diva.
However, they immediately struck up a friendship and Missy loved spending time with the ‘4 Page Letter’ hitmaker in the recording studio.
Recalling their first meeting, Missy – who first worked with Aaliyah on her 1996 album ‘One in a Million’ – said: “We were nervous when we first worked with her because nobody knew who we was.
“She came in and was so warming; she made us immediately feel like family.”

Matthew McConaughey; Movie role changed my life

OHMYGOSSIP — Matthew McConaughey admits his starring role in ‘Dazed and Confused’ transformed his life.
The Academy Award-winning star has confessed that the 1993 coming-of-age comedy proved to be a turning point in his career, as it established him as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after up-and-coming actors.
Reflecting on the importance of the Richard Linklater-directed movie – which also starred Ben Affleck and Milla Jovovich – he told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “That was the role that, at that time I didn’t know if it was going to be a hobby or something I was doing for the summer, and it turned out to be a career.
“That’s where it all started and I always look back to that one.”
Matthew starred in a string of hit romcoms during the 2000s.
But the Hollywood star actually thinks it’s easier to make drama movies because it means he’s constantly looking for “reality” in his performance.
He explained: “They are thin, by design. You come in on a cloud and you skip from cloud to cloud, and if you drop anchor in a romantic comedy, you will sink the ship.
“If it’s a scene where boy meets girl and I get really mad for a second, uh-uh, cut. ‘You can’t get mad because we won’t believe you can make it back.’ That’s how it goes. No, no, no. What’s easier about a drama is that: with every question, you can hang your hat on what would this character humanly do? You’re looking for reality all the time.”
By contrast, Matthew thinks romcoms are more challenging because the tone is less life-like.
He said: “You don’t go pining for reality in a romcom. You’re supposed to stay up there and bounce.”

Kim Kardashian West says her abs are looking ‘so good’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kim Kardashian West thinks her abs look “so good” at the moment.
The 37-year-old reality star – who has kids North, five, Saint, two, and seven-month-old Chicago with her husband Kanye West – has taken to her Instagram account to flaunt her toned stomach.
During one of the video clips, Kim – who is seen sporting a black sports bra – tells the camera: “My abs these days look so good.”
Kim labelled the eye-catching video ‘Lower Body Today’, letting her followers know which particular body part she was trying to tone.
The brunette beauty has been working hard in the gym over recent months, but she’s insisted she “doesn’t do a lot of cardio”.
Kim has actually managed to lose 20lbs this year – taking her from a fluctuating 140lbs to 116lbs – without running on a treadmill as she and her bodybuilder trainer spend 90 minutes a day lifting heavy weights.
She recently said: “I work out about an hour-and-a-half every single day, heavy weights. I don’t do a lot of cardio. But honestly, like even my mom pulled me aside maybe a week ago and pulls me in a closet and is like: ‘What are you doing? I don’t care what, I just need to know.’
“I’ve been working out really hardcore with a bodybuilder for one year. September is our one-year anniversary. I’ve lost 20 pounds and I’m really proud of that. I was almost 140 forever and now I’m like 116 and it just feels good. I didn’t see results right away, but when you stick with something and you’re consistent, you will.”
Kim also revealed she’s made some changes to her diet.
She shared: “I don’t really eat sugar the way that I used to. It doesn’t really do it for me. I’ve kind of been trained to just eat a lot healthier than I used to.
“I used to just eat anything and everything and I loved it. And so I really do control that now … I don’t want to ruin it by just stuffing my face.”

Emma Thompson reveals her daughter has been sexually assaulted

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Thompson’s teenage daughter was the victim of a sexual assault last year.
The 59-year-old actress has revealed that her 18-year-old daughter Gaia was groped as she travelled on the London Underground in 2017, and that the incident has subsequently left her feeling reluctant to travel on the city’s subway system.
She shared: “My daughter had the experience of being felt up on the Tube and felt very nervous about going out on the tube for a long time afterwards.”
Emma – who has starred in a host of hit films, including 2017’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ – revealed that Gaia has been hesitant about talking about the incident.
Speaking to the Daily Express, Emma explained: “She said the thing that upset her most was not the act itself but the fact that she felt cowed enough by it not to call him out.
“And I think that what we suffer as women most from our shame at not being able to say ‘Why are you doing this?’
“We’re so shocked and undermined by these actions that we can’t turn around and take the action that we want and that’s the thing that sits with us and sticks with us. Which is so unjust.”
Emma was one of the most outspoken figures in Hollywood during the movie industry’s sex abuse scandal in 2017.
The Academy Award-winning actress rubbished suggestions that Harvey Weinstein’s alleged abuse of up-and-coming actresses and other figures within the business was the result of a sex addiction.
Emma said: “I don’t think you can describe him as a sex addict. He’s a predator.
“He’s an actual predator, he’s dangerous and what he’s done and what he’s doing is criminal.”

The ‘Oops!… I Did It Again’ hitmaker – who is currently in the midst of her Britney: Piece Of Me world tour – got the crowd in the mood for her high-energy show by urging them to turn up the volume inside the arena using her best British accent.
The blonde beauty said: “Come on London, is that all you got? I’m sure you can do better than this!”
Britney, 36, divided the crowd into two halves and challenged the sides to see who could make the most noise.
She said in a British accent: “I just want to check you guys out for a second and see which side of the audience is the loudest.
“This side first, are you guys ready? Do you think you can do this? One, two, three! It’s OK, let’s try the left … one, two, three!”
During the show, one lucky fan was invited up on stage, strapped in a leather harness and then was asked to crawl down the stage walkway while Britney held him on a leash.
After kneeling down in front of the crowd, he was invited to kiss the pop icon on her cheek.
Britney – who has sold more than 100 million records during the course of her career – opened her London show with a rendition of her 2013 hit ‘Work B**ch’.
The chart-topping star subsequently sang signature smash songs like ‘I’m a Slave 4 U’ and ‘Toxic’, as well as a medley of ‘Stronger’ and ‘(You Drive Me) Crazy’.

Paul Banks wanted to be like Kurt Cobain

OHMYGOSSIP — Interpol’s Paul Banks was drawn to being a rock star because of Kurt Cobain.
The 40-year-old frontman wanted to be a musician from a young age, but says it wasn’t the wild lifestyle and being a celebrity that drew him to the role, but the “authenticity” of the late Nirvana star’s music.
Asked what age he decided he wanted to be a ‘rock star’, he told MusicFeeds.com.au:”From 15.!
He continued: “But I will say, my friend, it wasn’t at all the ‘rock star’. I would say it for shock value when I was 15. If the guidance counsellor would say, ‘What do you want to be when you get older?’ I’d say, ‘ rock star!’
And it was Nirvana – the one, the band that solidified the dream for me. But I will say in all honesty I never envisioned tour buses and private jets and celebrity.
It was never about that. I think it was something in – there was a such a pure form of expression coming off of Kurt Cobain. I think it was that sense of like… I don’t know, it felt like, ‘That’s the job!’ That’s the most honest thing that anyone can do.
“It seemed so cathartic and full of energy and authenticity. I think it was more that the aspiration was to be a professional musician.
“I had no concept of the trappings of stardom. So that wasn’t something that drew me to it.”
Paul admits that he doesn’t see him performing with a full band in the next 30 years time, and will likely be retired or just doing the odd stripped back gig.
Asked if he sees himself rocking into his 70s, he replied; “When I’m 70?! I think I’ll probably be retired when I’m 70! Or maybe, maybe a wooden stool and an acoustic. Maybe that’s my future when I’m in my 70s.”
Interpol released their new album ‘Marauder’ on Friday (24.08.18), their first in four years, the follow-up to 2014’s ‘El Pintor’.

Serena Williams is looking for a better work-life balance

OHMYGOSSIP — Serena Williams is still seeking the perfect work-life balance.
The Grand Slam-winning tennis star returned to the courts earlier this year after giving birth to her daughter Alexis Olympia on 1 September, 2017, but Serena has admitted she’s still struggling to juggle her various commitments and responsibilities.
Serena – who also married internet entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian last year – explained: “It’s hard. It’s not easy being a working mom, but that’s what we do. Women are strong and we are continuing to be, so I’m really proud of that.”
Asked whether she believes there’s such a thing as a work-life balance, the 36-year-old star told E! News: “I think there is. The thing is, you just have to find it.”
Serena admitted she’s still seeking to strike the right balance between her on-court efforts and the challenge of raising her daughter.
She said: “I’m not sure if I’ve found it yet, but I’m getting there. I’m finding my personal work-life balance.”
Earlier this month, Serena revealed she relies on other mothers to make her feel at ease when she has concerns about her baby daughter.
After missing her tot’s first steps, Serena confessed that sharing her feelings of disappointment on social media helped her realise that missing the occasional milestone doesn’t make her a bad mother.
She said: “When I missed Olympia’s walking, I posted about it and so many parents wrote in and said, ‘Don’t worry about it, I missed it too.’
“I didn’t realise that it’s almost more normal to miss it than it is to make it. So I really kind of rely on everyone’s help out there. It’s been so, so amazing.”
